Given that the Galaxy S21+ is said to come with a higher battery capacity compared to the Galaxy S20+ model, we expect other devices in the S21-series to follow the suit. As the devices go into the prototype production run, we expect to get more leaks and information.

The development related to the battery capacity comes just days after it was revealed that the upcoming Galaxy S21 won’t be a major upgrade as the South Korean giant is focusing on improving the device based on user feedback.

It has also been leaked online that the Galaxy S21 Ultra will continue to feature a 108-megapixel primary camera. However, it is likely to have an upgraded variant of the Samsung ISOCELL Bright HM1 camera sensor.

The phone will also reportedly skip the ToF sensor, similar to the newly launched Galaxy Note20. It is also being said that the device will have Qualcomm‘s new in-display fingerprint sensor which is expected to be 17 times bigger than the one found on the Galaxy S20 and it will also be much faster in use. In terms of fast charging support, reports indicate that the Galaxy S21 Ultra will have 60W fast charging.

Apple maintains lead as the global smartwatch market grew 20% in H1 2020

Counterpoint Research has published its smartwatch market data for the first half of 2020. The data shows the market posted a positive growth at a time when the COVID 19 pandemic crippled businesses globally. The growth may likely be connected to the increasing needs among individuals to keep fit.

Apple maintained its lead of the market with shipment figures that are sky high above those of its rivals. The US company’s revenue accounted for more than half of the market’s global revenues between January and June 2020, up from 43.2 percent in the same period of last year.

The Cupertino-based tech giant also impressively managed to boost its shipment volumes by 22 percent year-on-year even as the industry, on the whole, was “flat” from this particular standpoint due to the coronavirus pandemic. For what it’s worth, COVID-19 couldn’t stop the market from improving its revenue haul, which means worldwide average selling prices were actually on the rise during H1 2020.

Garmin emerged as the second highest-grossing brand in H1 2020, thanks to “one of the broadest portfolios of smartwatches in the market.” Huawei is pushed to the third spot while Sasung is at the fourth place. Imoo takes the fifth spot and Amazfit sits at the sixth place. Fitbit is at the seventh place and Fossil at eighth spot.

In terms of the best-selling smartwatch ranking, the Apple Watch Series 5 emerged as the best-selling smartwatch model, followed by the older Apple Watch Series 3. Huawei Watch GT 2 which was released last year clinches the third spot while the 2019 Galaxy Watch Active 2 variant sits at number 4 spot. The top-5 chart is completed by a relatively unpopular, or so we thought, model – Imoo Z3 4G.

Rumor: OPPO Reno5 Pro and Reno5 Pro Plus will be powered by the Snapdragon 860

The OPPO Reno series is already in its fourth generation even though it is just a year old. By the next quarter, we expect OPPO will announce the Reno5 series as details have begun surfacing. Today, a leak revealed the names of the phones in the series and their respective processors, one of which is a chipset that is yet to launch but that we have heard of before.

The source of the leaker is Really Asen Jun, and according to him, there will be three Reno5 phones. They are the Reno5, Reno5 Pro, and Reno5 Pro+. Knowing OPPO, these phones may launch under a different name in other markets. The leaker goes on to reveal the chipsets that are expected to power the three phones.

OPPO Reno5 series

The Reno5 will be powered by the yet-to-be-announced Snapdragon 775G. This chipset was expected to be announced in June but it still has not been announced. The Snapdragon 775G should bring new features and a higher processing power than the Snapdragon 765G which has turned out to be the go-to chipset for several manufacturers launching mid-range 5G phones.

The Reno5 Pro and Reno5 Pro+ will both feature the Snapdragon 860 Mobile Platform, another processor that is yet-to-be-announced. News of the Snapdragon 860 first surfaced earlier this month, and even then, it was linked to OPPO.

While we know little about these processors, we are pretty sure they will have 5G modems. While OPPO did release 4G variants of the Reno4, we do not think it will do the same for the Reno5 series.

Samsung is working on a budget foldable with model number SM-F415

Samsung is the only company to sell foldable smartphones on a large scale. The South Korean tech giant has so far launched four foldable devices under its Galaxy Z series; they are Galaxy Fold, Galaxy Fold 5G, Galaxy Z Flip, and Galaxy Z Flip 5G. The fourth and fifth devices – Galaxy Z Fold2 and Galaxy Z Fold2 5G are expected to launch next month. But none of them is affordable. Hence, to lure more customers, the firm is working on a budget foldable smartphone.

Samsung Logo Blue Featured

It is not the first time we are hearing about an affordable foldable handset from Samsung. In late June, a report claimed the chaebol to have postponed the launch of this phone to next year – 2021. The exact marketing name of this product is a mystery.

But now, an exclusive leak by SamMobile reveals this smartphone to carry model number SM-F415. For those unaware, Samsung uses SM-Fxxx for its Galaxy Z series phones. Also, the leak claims this handset to come in 64GB and 128GB storage configurations.

Unfortunately, that’s the only information the publication has managed to procure so far. It is not known how cheap it will be compared to the current-gen foldables from the company. To lower the price,  it may come with a mid-range processor and inferior cameras.

Anyway, it is a good sign for the commercialization of foldables. Soon, we may find this form factor in every price segment in no time if it all goes fine like the smartphone revolution.
