Nubia Watch is now available for reservation online. The new smartwatch from the brand will launch on 28th July 2020 and for those interested, you can reserve one on JD.com.
While the Nubia Watch does not feature a camera unlike the Nubia Alpha, it does also have a flexible display. Its promotional image also carried the term “urban adventurer,” which might be indicative of certain high durability features or its design. Unfortunately, the finer details or pricing of the upcoming smartwatch are currently unknown.
Although, a few educated guesses can be made. The Nubia Alpha was released in Beijing at a price of 3,499 Yuan (roughly $499) for the eSIM card variant while the 18K gold plated eSIM card variant was sold for 4,499 Yuan (roughly $642). At the moment, its price now sits at 1,188 Yuan (roughly $169), which might have been due to the upcoming Nubia Watch launch. This, we can expect it to be between the two price points and around the 3,000 Yuan mark. However, this is just speculation, so take it with a pinch of salt for now and stay tuned.
Apple is apparently looking into improving its Face ID and other visual biometric security systems. This move is being to remove any changes of people with the issue of similar looking and structured face (or a possible twin problem). The company will achieve this by mapping the users’ unique vein patterns that are under the skin.
While biometric systems like Face ID or Touch ID are a great tool for quick access into your smartphone, they also inherently have a few issues. There are plenty of recorded cases of false positives, albeit, in isolated cases. In other words, there is still one in a million chance of someone having a similar face structure. But it is also possible for dedicated individuals with malicious intent to create complex masks to fool the system. Although, that is again highly unlikely.
This is where the new feature would come in. Mapping veins under the skin is not something that can be replicated easily. Even similar looking users will have their own biological hardwiring be unique. A new Apple patent was granted by the US Patent and Trademark Office earlier this week, which revealed the system. In the patent, the system works by creating a 3D map of users’ veins using a sub-epidermal imagery technique through an infrared sensor in a camera.
Furthermore, the sensor will capture flood and speckle patterns from the infrared illumination lighting up on the users’ faces. This technique is quite similar to how Face ID currently works by using infrared light, although, the newer technique focuses on the veins on the inside. While this might just be the company’s attempt to cover all bases, but the smartphone in the near future might be capable enough of this feat.

With the launch of the Apple iPhone 12 series edging closer, fresh reports regarding the upcoming flagship lineup have become more common. However, not all of them are great news, as the iPhone 12 launch might have been delayed to November 2020 and its apparent battery capacity leak might leave more to be desired.
According to a new report from Macotakara, the launch of the 5G iPhone 12 models may be delayed to November. In the report, “multiple Chinese suppliers” were cited and it was claimed that the iPhone 12 announcement will be delayed to the latter half of October due to the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic. In other words, the 4G LTE versions of the iPhone 12 series will launch in mid October while the 5G variants will launch in November.
Although, this is still an unconfirmed report so take it with a pinch of salt. Furthermore, the report also goes against many other previous reports suggest that Apple might not release an LTE version this year. Others even reported on the Cupertino based giant getting back on track with a September launch. This, it is still too early to tell, although, a staggered release may be planned as well.
Arriving at the battery capacity leak, a new post on Twitter revealed the iPhone 12 Pro’s battery capacity. Reportedly, the iPhone 12 Pro will be powered by a 2,775mAh battery pack, which was allegedly discovered in South Korea’s SafetyKorea agency’s database. If true, then it would mean that the latest iPhone could have a battery capacity smaller than last year’s iPhone 11 Pro, which had a 3,046mAh battery.
Samsung will be launching the Galaxy M31s phone in India on July 30. The microsite for the smartphone went live on Amazon India last week. The key specs of the phone are mentioned on the microsite. Today, reliable tipster Ishan Agarwal took to Twitter to share vital details such as RAM + storage variants, color options, and camera configurations of the Galaxy M31s.
According to the leak, the Galaxy M31s will be arriving in India in two choices such as 6 GB RAM + 128 GB storage and 8 GB RAM + 128 GB storage. The phone will be available in two color options like Mirage Black and Mirage Blue.
The Galaxy M31s has a quad-camera setup led by an f/1.8 aperture 64-megapixel camera. It is coupled with a 12-megapixel ultrawide lens with f/2.2 aperture, a 5-megapixel depth sensor with f/2.4 aperture, and a 5-megapixel macro shooter with f/2.4 aperture. Placed on the front side of the phone is a 32-megapixel selfie camera.
The Galaxy M31s houses a 6.5-inch S-AMOLED display that offers Full HD+ resolution. It offers 407ppi pixel density. The handset is equipped with an in-screen fingerprint reader. The Exynos 9611 that fueled the Galaxy M31 and Galaxy M30s phones is present under the hood of the M31s.
The smartphone is backed by a humungous battery of 6,000mAh capacity. It will be arriving with support for 25W fast charging through USB-C. A recent report had revealed that it could be priced around Rs. 20,000 (~$267) in India.
In related news, Samsung is also working on the Galaxy M51 smartphone that will be positioned higher than the M31s. The handset has recently received Bluetooth certification. Hence, it appears that the handset may debut in August or September.
Earlier this year, in March, ZTE-backed Nubia had announced its 65W GaN charger along with a few other accessories at the Nubia Red Magic 5G smartphone launch event. The charger was made available for purchase in China just a month after its announcement.
Now, another GaN charger from the company is set to make its debut next week. Nubia President Ni Fei has confirmed that a new 120W GaN three-port charger will be launched along with the Nubia Red Magic 5S smartphone on 28th July.
The teaser poster showcases the upcoming Nubia 120W GaN Charger which has two USB-C ports and one USB-A port. It continues with the foldable plug design that we saw on the 65W GaN charger from the company.
The new 120W GaN Charger is quite compact in size. The company’s executive says that it will come powered by the latest Gallium Nitride chips and has support for extremely fast charging speed.
The sleek and elegantly designed charger will be offered in Metallic Gray color, similar to its predecessor. We expect the company to share more details in the coming days. Anyways, the launch event in just a few days away.
The pricing of the upcoming Nubia 120W GaN Charger remains unknown but it will definitely be costlier compared to the 65W GaN Charger from the company, which is priced at 169 yuan that roughly converts to $24.
Gallium Nitride (GaN) is a better alternative to silicon for chargers as it can withstand more power and temperature. The GaN chargers are relatively smaller than the regular high-capacity silicon chargers, making them better in portability.

You just need to connect it to your smartphone via a USB Type C port to game on a bigger screen.
Furthermore, it has a kickstand in the back, which allows it to be propped up on a table or any flat surface in either portrait or landscape mode. According to official notes, the Asus ROG Strix XG16 is powered by a 7,800mAh battery that lasts up to 3 hours on a full charge.
The portable gaming monitor has two front facing speakers for audio output and even a 3.5mm headphone jack. It also has a micro HDMI port, so enthusiasts can also use it as a second screen for your PC. Asus is planning on selling a tripod along with it as well, which is an added bonus. Unfortunately, there has been no announcement for the price as of yet, although, the 17 inch XG17AHP variant is already available for $495 or $599 with the tripod.
This month, we have seen a few smartphone companies officially launching their super-fast charging technology. While we expect some flagship smartphones powered by the same technology to launch this year, the technology seems ready to go mainstream.
According to the information coming from Chinese tipster, we could see 5,000mAh battery and 100W+ fast charging technology become normal for smartphones as early as the first quarter of 20201.
Xiaomi and Vivo both had showcased their 120W fast charging technology last year but it wasn’t ready for commercial usage at the time. However, earlier this month, Vivo’s sub-brand iQOO announced 120W Ultra-Fast Charging technology.
Soon after that, OPPO and Realme also announced 125W Flash Charging and 125W UltraDart Fast Charging technology, respectively. Smartphones from all three brands with this new charging solution could get launched in the coming weeks or months.
We expect the tech to be limited for a couple of devices from each brand this year. But given the rapid development in the fast charging technology and the lack of such feature is a deal-breaker for many customers, now is the time for the solution to go mainstream.
With faster-charging solutions, it is possible for the smartphone makers to include a bigger capacity battery as the charging time will be well within or under the current time. So, we could also see more and more smartphones with around 5,000mAh battery.
However, the area of concern with ultra-fast charging solution is battery degradation. It remains to be seen how super-fast charging technology affects battery life in real-life performance. But for that, companies need to first launch smartphones packed with the new faster-charging technology.
NVIDIA, the company known for GPUs, is reportedly interested in acquiring ARM, one of the leading semiconductor or chip designing company. As per the Bloomberg report, NVIDIA has approached ARM for a potential deal.
It is also being reported that some other bidders may also emerge during the process. The development comes just weeks after it was reported that SoftBank, which owns ARM, is planning to all the stake or part of a stake in a private deal.
The report further adds that there’s a possibility that the acquisition bid by NVIDIA may not materialize and ARM could opt to get listed publicly. If the acquisition goes through, then it could be the biggest-ever in the chip industry.
NVIDIA has already established its dominance in the graphics chipset market, which is mostly used for gaming and AI processing. It also has found a new use case in the self-driving car market but it is still nascent.
The acquisition of ARM by NVIDIA could be a major threat to the likes of Intel and Qualcomm and most other chipset makers as almost all of them license ARM’s technology for their own chips. It’s noteworthy that ARM’s technology is the core of Apple Silicon which will be powering future MacBooks.
For those who are unaware, ARM, which is based in the United Kingdom, was acquired by SoftBank and SoftBank Vision Fund for about $32 billion in 2016. Also, earlier this month, NVIDIA had briefly surpassed Intel in terms of market value.
SoftBank has been selling off assets to endure the COVID-19 pandemic. ARM also recently offloaded two Internet of Things groups to SoftBank to narrow its focus. Selling off ARM could help the Japanese giant to focus on other important businesses.
Even if both the companies reach a deal for acquisition, the transaction will likely face very close and strict scrutiny from the regulatory bodies. Its competitors would likely oppose the deal on the terms of fair treatment.
We recently reported about Jelly 2, the world’s smallest 4G smartphone running Android 10 operating system. Today, we have come across Selpic P1, which claims to be the world’s smallest handheld printer.
This niche product comes from California-based Selpic which had previously launched Selpic S1 and S1+ portable printers. The new product from the company — Selpic P1 can handle all the printing needs, claims the brand.
The printer uses inkjet technology and can be operated just like a pen. It allows users to print photos, text, barcodes, QR codes, among others on almost any porous surface, including paper, textiles, leather, wood, and also curved or uneven surfaces.
It supports printing in the horizontal and vertical orientation and can also switch direction from left to right or right to left. It has a built-in line break function that has the ability to print either a single-line or across multiple lines.
The Selpic P1 has built-in 600 x 600 DPI support and comes with 300 nozzles with a spacing of 0.002 inches. The company says that each nozzle can eject 18 million drops per second, producing incredible quality and detail.
One of the most interesting features is that it doesn’t even require a computer or smartphone to print text. It has high-quality speech recognition technology that converts speech to text which can be printed just with the touch of a button.
It also comes with a dedicated smartphone app that can be used to customize the layout and content for the print. The cartridge for the printer, which will retail for $59 (currently $39), can also be replaced quite easily with the click of a button.
Now coming to the pricing, the Selpic P1 handheld printer is currently up for crowdfunding on Indiegogo for $99 and comes in Black and White color options. At the time of writing this, the campaign has reached 71% of its $20,000 goal with 30 days left and shipments expected to start from September this year.

The device has a built-in storage of 32 GB and it has a microSD card slot for extra storage. The handset boots to Android 10 OS. It remains to be seen whether the device arrives as an Android Go smartphone.
The Nokia TA-1258 has a 3,040mAh rated battery. There is no support for fast charging on the device. It has a front-facing camera of 5-megapixel. On its back is an 8-megapixel main camera. The listing states that the main snapper supports 2x optical zoom. A fingerprint reader is available on the backside of the smartphone. ‘
It remains to be seen whether the Nokia TA-1258 arrives as Nokia 2, Nokia 3 or Nokia C series smartphone. Now that the phone has surfaced in TENAA with all the important details, it is likely to go official soon in China. It is unclear whether HMD Global will be making the device outside of China.
MediaTek has launched a few chipsets under its Dimensty lineup of 5G SoCs. Today, the company has announced yet another chipset which is aimed towards mid-range smartphones — MediaTek Dimensity 720.
The chipset is slotted just below the Dimensity 800 and the flagship chipset in the lineup Dimensity 1000 and 1000+. It seems that MediaTek doesn’t want to leave any stones unturned and launch a chipset for every possible price range, similar to Qualcomm.
The MediaTek Dimensity 720 is manufactured using TSMC‘s 7nm process. It comes with an integrated 5G modem that supports 2CC carrier aggregation, VoNR, 5G/4G Dual SIM dual standby, and sub-6GHz 5G.
It also has MediaTek 5G UltraSave technology which uses both network and content awareness intelligence to manage the modem’s operating mode in real-time to further extend the battery life.
The chipset packs two ARM Cortex-A76 big cores operating at 2GHz in the octa-core CPU, which the company claims to improve the responsiveness of applications for fluid user experience. It also packs an ARM Mali G57 GPU, up to 12GB fast LPDDR4X memory and UFS 2.2 storage for fast read/write speeds.
This new Dimensity 720 SoC has support for 90Hz high frame-rate displays along with enhanced video streaming capabilities like MiraVision HDR10+ with support for Dynamic Range Remapping.
As for the camera configuration, it supports up to 64-megapixel single sensor or a dual-camera setup consisting of a 20-megapixel and 16-megapixel sensors. It packs a range of AI-related features that are powered by MediaTek’s integrated APU.
To minimize the power consumption of always-on voice assistants, the company has included a feature called Voice Wakeup (VoW). It also supports dual-mic noise suppression so that voice assistant can hear the audio more clearly.
With the launch of Dimensity 800-series and Dimensity 1000-series, the company was focused on gaming-related features as well, which doesn’t seem to be the case for this Dimensity 720. The focus of this new chipset seems to be global sub-6GHz 5G support.
The company has confirmed that the MediaTek Dimensity 720 chipset will be powering the mid-range smartphones in regions like North America, Europe, and Asia. However, the company has not provided any timeline for the launch of devices powered by this SoC.
