AnTuTu’s Android Performance list is a good indicator of the top smartphones of the month in terms of sheer power. Today the benchmarking app has released the Top 10 Android Performance Phones for August 2019 and there are no real surprises in the list. The recently announced Snapdragon 855 Plus smartphones top the list. However, there are slight variations in the placement of the flagships, all thanks to the changes made in the new AnTuTu v8.0.
So before we actually take a look at the phones in the list, let’s see what these changes are. First, AnTuTu v8.0 considers the storage variant of each device while ranking the phones in the list. Larger the storage, better the ranking. Simply put, scores will differ among the different variants of the same device. The new version also takes the screen refresh rates into account. So it’s no surprise that OnePlus 7 Pro jumps up a few places (vs June’s ranking) in August’s ranking due to its 90Hz screen.
Now coming to the AnTuTu Android Performance list for August 2019, Black Shark 2 Pro12GB+256GB variant takes the lead with 469,708 points. This isn’t surprising given that it features the new Snapdragon 855+ processor with UFS 3.0. In the second place is the 8GB+128GB version of the ROG Phone 2.
The new ROG phone also features the latest SD855+ chipset, so it’s not surprising to see it placed on top. However, note that there’s a 12GB RAM version of this phone and given that there’s hardly any difference in its score vs Black Shark 2 Pro, it’s likely that the ROG Phone 2 12GB RAM model will top this list. In case you are wondering why we haven’t seen the higher-end model of the ROG Phone 2, note that AnTuTu considers a sample size of at least 1000 scores for this list.
What’s really interesting is that the ZTE Axon 10 Pro also makes it in this list but it’s the only phone with 6GB RAM. All the rest have at least 8GB RAM onboard. Meizu 16S8GB + 128GB and Redmi K20 Pro8GB + 256GB complete the list.
Portable audio players have been extremely popular in the past, especially after Apple released the iPod that disrupted the music industry and led to its digital transformation. The next step was once again made by Apple that together with the iPhone, introduced the iPod Touch, a smart audio player that was exactly the same as iPhone minus the phone calls. The smartphone industry as we know it today practically diminished the role of standalone audio players as phones started doing that job.
Nevertheless, there are still people that prefer a standalone audio player as they usually come with better audio quality and much longer battery life. Shanling M6 is one of those audio players and it was announced on September 2nd bringing high-end audio quality and Android OS allowing for more functions. Based on the success of Shanling M5s, Shanling M6 features a 4.7″ Sharp IPS HD screen and it is powered by the Snapdragon 430 octa-core SoC backed by 4GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. Also, you can expand its memory up to 2TB more via the microSD slot. The audio quality is taken care of by the Dual AK4495SEQ chip with both DACs working even in single-ended mode. Lastly, Shanling developed an all-new Music app as the stock music player.
The OS running on the M5 is based on open Android OS and allows for installation of third-party apps just like on any Android device. Also, having the SD430 means it supports Qualcomm’s Quick Charge™ 3.0 protocol and can be fully recharged in 2 hours. What’s more, it supports 2-way Bluetooth connection meaning that you can connect it to your wireless speaker/headphones or pair it with another phone or tablet to enjoy music, movies, Spotify, Tidal or even Youtube with top-quality sound (SBC, AAC, and LDAC codecs support).

It looks like Apple is playing with the idea of making the Apple Watch’s band a bit smarter. As spotted by PatentlyApple, the company was granted a handful of patents this morning, all focused on bringing new tricks to the Watch by way of the band.
One of the patents is for a biometric sensor integrated into a band that could give you a new way to unlock your Watch or paired iPhone instead of using a passcode or Face ID. The patent covers a thermal sensor that could use skin texture and wrist hair patterns to authenticate your identity.
The second granted patent describes a Watch band that can adjust itself on the fly — think Nike’s self-tightening shoes, but on your wrist. If the Apple Watch detects that it’s sliding while you’re running (or if the aforementioned thermal sensors need a closer look at your wrist skin) tensioners in the device could tighten or loosen the band on command.
The third and final patent relates to indicators built into a band. They could display details from the Activity app, such as a step counter or heart rate monitor. The band could also highlight the type of activity your Watch is tracking, such as running or swimming, which would be a handy way to check your device is recording the correct data.
Apple regularly files patents but doesn’t always turn them into real products. Apple has kept its bands relatively simple so far for the sake of keeping them swappable; they come in all sorts of materials and colors, but the electronic bits are contained within the Watch itself. So, whether any of these bands come to fruition remains to be seen.

Meanwhile, Huawei is all set to launch new color options of the Huawei P30 series smartphones at the IFA 2019 in Berline later this week. After that, later this month, on 19th September, the company will be launching its next-gen Mate series flagship smartphones — Huawei Mate 30 and Mate 30 Pro.
The Huawei P30 Pro already comes in five color variants but Huawei is set to announce two more. The two new colors are Misty Lavender and Mystic Blue and should appeal to the younger generation and fashionistas. A render of the new color variants has surfaced, giving us a good look at the design.
Huawei is going for a two-tone finish similar to that of the Huawei Y9 Prime (2019). The upper part is glossy while the lower part has a matte finish. If you look closely, you can see the power button of the Mystic Blue variant has a touch of red.
The two new color variants will be available for purchase in Europe and will come with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage reports Winfuture.de. They will also keep the price tag of the other color variants.
The Huawei P30 Pro was announced in March. It has a 6.47-inch display with a dewdrop notch and a 1080 x 2340 resolution. There is a Kirin 980 processor under the hood which is paired with 6GB of RAM in some markets and also comes in 256GB and 512GB variants.
The phone has a quad-rear camera system that includes a 40MP f/1.6 primary sensor, an 8MP periscope camera with 5x optical zoom, a 20MP ultrawide angle camera, and a ToF 3D camera. It also has a 32MP selfie camera and a fingerprint scanner under the OLED display. The phone has an IP68 rating, a 4200mAh battery with support for 40W fast charging and 15W wireless charging. The P30 Pro also supports reverse wireless charging, allowing you to charge other phones or accessories that support wireless charging just by placing it on its back.
Samsung and Huawei are currently the two smartphone manufacturers who have announced their foldable smartphones and are set to launch them in the coming weeks. Now, another company seems ready to jump on the foldable smartphone bandwagon — LG.
A foldable smartphone patent from LG has surfaced online, which showcases a double-folding device equipped with a stylus. The patent, registered with the Korean patent office and was granted a coupled of months ago, shows a device that can be folded twice. It looks similar to the foldable prototype that Xiaomi teased earlier this year.
In the unfolded state, the smartphone looks like a table with 16:10 aspect ratio. It features thinner bezels on three sides but has a wider “handle” that houses the triple-camera setup. The design is quite clever and the accompanied stylus that can be stowed away in one of the two hinges of the phone.
In the folded state, the smartphone seems to have an aspect ratio of the modern smartphone and has thin bezels at the top as well as bottom. In the patent document, the device described looks thin but the real-world product could be different.
Do note that this is just a patent application and it does not guarantee that LG will be launching a smartphone with this design in the market but it does indicate that the company is exploring the idea.
While Samsung and Huawei are ready with their foldable smartphone, most of the other major smartphone companies, including LG, Xiaomi, and Oppo among others are yet to announce their foldable smartphone but has indicated that they are working on it.
Meanwhile, LG is gearing up for IFA 2019 in Berlin, Germany this week and the company is likely to announce the LG G8X smartphone, potentially coupled with a secondary display. At the same trade show, Samsung could re-launch its Galaxy Fold smartphone.
Last month, we reported a Sharp smartphone was certified by Taiwan’s NCC agency. It also appeared on Geekbench and received its Bluetooth certification. Renders and specs of the phone which will launch as the Sharp Aquos V have been leaked on the web.
The Aquos V is said to be a budget smartphone set to launch in Taiwan and Europe but unlike most budget smartphones, it will come with a flagship processor albeit an old one – the Snapdragon 835 processor.
The leaked spec sheet says the phone will have a 5.93-inch 2160 x 1080 LCD display. The attached renders show the screen has moderately-sized bezels at the top and bottom. The Aquos V will have 4GB of RAM and 64GB of built-in storage which can be expanded up to an additional 256GB via a MicroSD card slot.
The phone will have an 8MP CMOS seflie camera that can record in FHD. On the back are dual 13MP cameras which can record in 4K. There is also a fingerprint scanner on the back and support for Face ID.
The Aquos V will have dual-SIM support, dual-band WiFi, Bluetooth 5.0, NFC, and an audio jack. It will pack a 3126mAh battery under its hood that charges via a USB Type-C port. There is no mention of fast charging but we expect it to at least support 18W fast charging.
The phone will run Android 9 Pie out of the box. It will weigh 165 grams and measure 157 x 76 x 9 millimeters. The leaked press renders show an uninteresting gray variant. We hope it looks better in real life as that is the only color available.
The Aquos V is reported to be scheduled for announcement tomorrow at IFA 2019. We should know about availability and price for both markets after the unveiling. The Aquos R3 with its dual-notch design is also reported to get a global launch tomorrow, nearly four months after launching in Japan.

Sony will be attending IFA 2019, which kicks off this week, and the Japanese smartphone maker will be unveiling new products. The Xperia 2 which leaked recently is among the devices expected to be unveiled at the September 5 event.
Today, Sony shared a teaser on its Instagram page teasing that it will launch an Xperia Smartphone that “fits in the palm of your hand”. The teaser doesn’t reveal anything about the phone other than the hint that it will be able to fit in your palm.
Some say the phone being teased is the Xperia 2 which will come with a 6.1-inch screen that is smaller than the Xperia 1’s 6.5-inch display. While the screen size is smaller, it doesn’t really fit into the palm of your hand like the Xperia XZ2 Compact which has a 5” screen and even thick bezels.
The Xperia 2 will come with triple rear cameras, a display with a 21:9 aspect ratio, and a side-mounted fingerprint scanner. It will also have NFC and a dedicated camera button.

Vivo is all set to announce its big flagship for the year, the Vivo NEX 3 on September 16 in China. Today, the company revealed that it would also announce its new True Wireless Stereo (TWS) earbuds at the same event. The company doesn’t have a TWS headphone in its portfolio yet.
Unlike its sister brand, Vivo is not really popular for its headphones. So it remains to be seen what kind of sound quality can we expect from the new device. Unfortunately, the company has shared just one poster of the upcoming earbuds with no mention of any features or specifications. So we’ll have to wait for new teasers to get more details.
Meanwhile, OPPO has released its new noise-canceling in-ear headphones called as the OPPO Enco Q1 in China recently. It uses a 3D neckband design and features dual Active Noise Cancellation with 4 mics. It costs around $84 a pair, but given OPPO’s excellent history with music accessories, we can expect impressive sound quality.
The OnePlus TV is all set to get launched later this month, and it’s possibly one of the most hyped we’ve been for a non-smartphone product in a while. There are so many rumors flying around about the device that it’s impossible not to get excited about it. Naturally, OnePlus are more than happy to stoke those flames further with the announcement of the Gamma Color Magic, a dedicated picture chip that debuts in the upcoming OnePlus TV.
The announcement was made by OnePlus CEO Pete Lau over on Twitter. Pete claims that the Gamma Color Magic chip will “bring you best-in-class image quality on our customized #QLED TV panel with widest color gamut.” We’ve even embedded the tweet below for all of your viewing pleasure.
I am proud to share news about the dedicated picture processor for the #OnePlusTV. We built the Gamma Color Magic processor to bring you best-in-class image quality on our customized #QLED TV panel with widest color gamut. Can't wait for you to experience it! pic.twitter.com/DlQS8Y8jhn
It’s safe to say he’s fairly proud of it, but what exactly this entails we’re still not too sure. The details regarding the chip are vague at best, and combing through the tweet doesn’t really give us any answers other than that it’ll give improve the image quality. That’s a fairly empty statement, but we don’t think OnePlus would proclaim something like that lightly.
If you’re interested in finding out more about the OnePlus TV, there’s a full list of leaked specs over here. From what we know, the TV will feature a 55-inch QLED display, as well as a MediaTek MT5670 chipset and a heavily customized version of Android TV OS 9. It will launch first in India and Pete Lau says it will have a price tag that reflects it as a premium device.
From autopilot solution to the self-driving bus, from artificial intelligence (AI) algorithm to commercial solutions, from AI chips to industrial production, products supported by creative AI technologies from over 300 Chinese and international corporations was exhibited at the 2019 World Artificial Intelligence Conference (WAIC 2019) held in Shanghai last week. Thousands of cutting-edge technologies and products claim an AI competition for future human societies has reached a critical point. It’s about how human beings enter the fourth industrial revolution.
The government-supported WAIC 2019 shows the determination that China is seeking an important role even a leadership during the fourth industrial revolution. But worth noticing is that the critical characters are still those AI companies and academics. Deepblue Technology, a Chinese unicorn startup, is one of them.
Deepblue Technology
Deepblue was founded in 2014 by a team of returning Ph.D. professionals. With a guiding principle of ‘Serving humanity through AI’, they are working on the AI basic research & application development and has made significant breakthroughs in these two fields. Although running for only 5 years since its establishment in 2014, Deepblue has already made its appearance in the industry and academics circles.
Compared to other AI technology companies, Deepblue showcased more about their business and application for a specific destination to consider both hardware and software. Deepblue has 4 production centers in three different cities (Changzhou, Jinan, Deyang) in China for its AI products production, which supports their confidence to claim the capacity of independent R&D and manufacturing. At WAIC 2019, their star products, the AI Panda Bus, and the Panda Road sweeper, attracted a lot of attention from both professionals and general visitors. These two products integrated the core AI technologies of Deepblue, such as L3-L4 autonomous driving, computer vision, biological intelligence, and voice interactive system.

AI Panda Bus
Deepblue has received various orders from both the domestic and foreign market. In the domestic market, the AI Panda Bus has been allowed to run in certain areas containing Shanghai, Tianjin, Guangzhou and so on, where have enormous transport pressure and increasing labor cost. Especially in Guangzhou, the AI Panda Bus is the only autonomous bus which obtained the road-test qualification. For foreign markets, according to the latest report, Bangkok city, one of the most densely populated travel cities, is in negotiations for the Panda Bus and started having cooperation with Deepblue.
L3-L4 autonomous driving
Based on machine vision, Deepblue’s multi-sensor fusion technology combines the latest intelligent decision-making navigational aids with reinforcement learning, which allows the bus to achieve a commercial level for serving the public transportation while saving labor cost and improve efficiency. Meanwhile, the public bus transportation gives an advantage of fixed routing and united monitoring while allowing to Deepblue’s Panda Bus to adapt to specific road environments.
AI recognition
Biometric access & AI retail
The Panda bus equips the latest Deepblue palm-vein recognition system for access and built-in retail payment. Compared to facial and fingerprint recognition, the new palm-vein recognition more concerns passengers’ privacy and data security with high efficiency.
Biometric access
Deepblue opened an experience zone at WAIC 2019 for visitors. It attracted huge visitors to line up for the AI Panda Bus. The curious crowds presented a positive attitude on such intelligent vehicles, especially were fond of the AI retail on the bus. On the contrary, most visitors all mentioned a safety concern that whether such a large public bus can run well and guarantee passengers’ safety, especially when facing some emergencies. Deepblue responded that they have passed all kind of rigorous testing from the government and public-traffic service providers, which all gives priority to international safety standards. allowing them, to progress to receiving different tests from domestic and foreign clients.
AI Retail with palm-vein recognition
Deepblue vision&focus
To learn more about Deepblue’s R&D capability, we were invited to visit it’s headquarters in Shanghai. They introduced that Deepblue has cooperated with academic institutions and built up over 6 laboratories and research centers in Asia and Europe, covering intelligent manufacture, data&financial security, AI chip, edge computing, machine vision and so on.
As their CEO Mr. Anderson Chen said, their strategic products and directions are mainly covering three fields: intelligent vehicles, intelligent environment and AI city, which are also the ineluctable trend of the world. ‘We believe AI technology should be used to serve humanity and benefit the public’. To prove their confidence and ability as an AI pioneer, Deepblue showed us many awards of different AI global competitions in recent years. For example, on the CVPR 2019 Cassava disease Classification Competition held by CVPR, DeepblueAI Team won the first prize. CVPR held by IEEE is one of the top conferences on machine vision and mode recognition in the world. Through academic involvement, Deepblue adopts a much more proactive approach to training AI professionals, not just for skill improvement but also for a better understanding of AI ethics.
On August 31, Deepblue held a forum at WAIC 2019, titled ‘AI Sparkles along the Belt and Road’. The forum was attended by prominent luminaries to discuss AI development and its future. One of the most important scientists, the Nobel laureate in physics, Prof George Fitzgerald Smoot III gave a significant speech talking about the research and application of AI in life sciences, which is widely considered as a critical field of AI application.
Deepblue forum at WAIC 2019
At the forum, Deepblue announced its collaboration with the School of Computing at the National University of Singapore (NUS) to jointly conduct research on computer vision.
Meanwhile, Deepblue’s founder, Mr. Anderson Chen announced their various business achievements worldwide. GZ Health, one of the largest property management companies in China, signed an order for 100 AI road Sweepers and 1000 Automated Vacuum Robots for their nationwide facilities and surroundings, which covers airports, train stations, hospitals, highways, and office buildings. The order is estimated to be worth around 150 million RMB.
Deepblue also signed an order to supply Guokai Research with 100,000 sets of genome sequencing kits used as a supplementary health checkup for civil servants in Jinan city. The largest retail conglomerate in Thailand, Charoen Pokhand Group (CP Group) will sign an agreement with plans to rollout Deepblue’s AI Self-checkout machines in 7-Eleven stores in Thailand. The new machines use machine vision to identify and tag products for checkout and billing, saving consumers’ time on scanning the traditional bar-code.
Deepblue global business
Conclusion
Growing as an epitome of the Chinese AI development though, Deepblue is solidly on their path and showing their global visions. Especially at the critical period when international AI competitions, to some extent, is shaping human beings’ new life, as a global tech media, the Gizmochina team is always looking forward to spreading the pioneer’s latest thinking and also willing to see more participators joining the process. But, perhaps, there is only one Deepblue.
TWRP – Team Win Recovery Project keeps adding support for new Android devices after regular intervals. In the latest update, TWRP has added a slew of new smartphones into the compatibility list. The official TWRP support brings stable features which work without any issue on compatible smartphones. The official TWRP build also promises regular support and updates.
The new TWRP official build opens doors for Asus Zenfone 6, Samsung Galaxy Tab S5e, Moto G7, Galaxy Note 8 (Snapdragon) and BQ Aquaris M10 4G to flash custom ROMs and kernels. It was earlier limited for these devices to flash anything as the custom recovery is a must before tweaking anything.
The custom recoveries also facilitate easy backups for mobile devices. A user can easily restore the backup if the phone stalls at any point. The compatibility will further boost the third-party development of these devices. It can result in more advanced ROMs, Mods and Kernels.
If you’re looking to flash the TWRP on any of the devices mentioned above, then make sure to download the TWRP recovery of the particular device. Otherwise, your device may brick.

ZTE-backed Nubia launched the Red Magic 3 gaming smartphone in May this year and now the company is all set to launch another gaming smartphone, dubbed Red Magic 3S. Ahead of the phone’s launch tomorrow in China, the company has been teasing the upcoming smartphone’s features.
In the latest development, the company has confirmed that the Red Magic 3S will come with support for Air Cooling feature as well as Liquid Cooling. This Dual Cooling Technology will ensure that the phone doesn’t heat up even after prolonged gaming.
Recently, the company had revealed that the phone will come with support for 3D surround sound and prior to that, Nubia confirmed that the smartphone will feature a display with 90Hz refresh rate and will also offer 4D Vibration feedback for an enhanced gaming experience.
Soon after the launch of Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 Plus octa-core flagship chipset, Nubia had announced that it will soon launch a smartphone powered by the same. Thus, the Red Magic 3S is expected to come packed with SD855+ SoC for the increased performance with this new gaming-centric processor.
The Snapdragon 855 Plus octa-core chipset upgrades the CPU and offers a clock speed of up to 2.96GHz compared to 2.84GHz on the standard SD855. Further, the graphics performance on this new chipset has also been increased by 15 percent.
The smartphone is expected to pack a large-capacity battery, possibly retain the 5,000mAh capacity battery of the Red Magic 3. As for the design, we expect the company to have an air cooling system and given that the phone is an offshoot of the Red Magic 3, the device is expected to continue with the heat dissipation design.
The Nubia Red Magic 3 features the industry’s first cooling fan inside which doesn’t use any physical bearings and is made out of nanomaterials. The company says that the fan runs at 14K RPM and consumes very little power. It is also supported by a liquid-cooled copper tube to keep the temperature inside cooler.
We’ll have to wait for a few more hours to know for sure what the company is offering with this Red Magic 3S gaming smartphone, as well as its pricing and availability details. The launch event for the phone is set for 5th September, i.e. tomorrow in China and we’ll be covering it. So stay tuned for all the information from the launch event.
Huawei has recently confirmed that it will be launching the Mate 30 series of flagship phones on Sept. 19 in Munich, Germany. PriceBaba has teamed up with reputed tipster OnLeaks to share renders of the upcoming Huawei Mate 30 Pro smartphone. It has also shared the key specs of the smartphone.
Huawei Mate 30 Pro Renders
The Huawei Mate 30 Pro renders show that it will be boasting a premium design as it features a glass rear like the predecessor Mate 20 Pro smartphone from last year. The rear panel has a new circular housing for the quad cameras that are arranged in 2 x 2 grid. The left corner of the rear shell has the unit for the dual LED flash, a sensor and Leica brand name.
The Mate 20 Pro measures around 158.1 x 73.6 x 8.7mm and the thickness of the device increases to nearly 9.7mm at the camera bump. The front panel of the phone features a display with reduced notch. Since the curved edges of the screen appears to flow over the sides, it is dubbed as ‘waterfall’ display. The tipster has claimed that the exact size of the screen could not be measured because of the curved edges. However, it is speculated that it could be sporting a 6.6-inch display. The reduced notch could be equipped with as many as three front-facing cameras and some other sensors. The publication did not confirm whether the phone supports 3D face unlock. Also, there is no confirmation on whether it is equipped with an in-screen fingerprint scanner.

There are no volume buttons on the device and the power key can be seen on the right edge. There could be a touch-sensitive area above the power button for controlling the volume. The bottom edge of the phone is equipped with a SIM tray, a USB-C port and an external speaker. An IR blaster and microphone can be found on the topside of the device.
Rumors surrounding the Mate 30 Pro has reveled that it will be fueled by Kirin 990 chipset that includes a 5G modem. The new SoC is expected to go official at the IFA 2019 tech trade show on Sept. 6. The camera setup of the Mate 30 Pro could include a pair of 40-megapixel lenses, an 8-megapixel lens and a 3D ToF sensor. It could be housing a 4,500mAh battery that carries support for 55W rapid charging and 25W fast charging. The phone will be running on Android, but it may not feature Google apps because of the ongoing trade ban imposed by US.
OnLeaks has claimed that since the above renders are based on a tricky CAD, it may not be completely accurate.
