EMUI 10 is set to go official on August 9 at HDC 2019

Chinese tech giant Huawei is holding its Huawei Developer Conference 2019 (HDC 2019) at Songshan Lake, Dongguan from August 9th to 11th. We earlier reported that the company will announce EMUI 10 at this conference.

Now, the company has officially revealed that the newer version of its custom Android skin — EMUI 10 will be announced on 9th August. We expect this latest version of EMUI to come pre-installed with the upcoming Huawei Mate 30 and Mate 30 Pro smartphones when they get launched later this year.

EMUI 10 Launch Date Poster

Since Android Q stable build is not expected to ship soon, the EMUI 10 custom interface could be based on Android 9 Pie operating system. However, there are some reports which suggest that it will be based on Android Q. So far, the Chinese giant has not revealed anything related to this new update and what EMUI 10 would bring to the table.

According to the rumors, EMUI 10 will feature a new design philosophy, or at least an updated version of the current design direction. It looks like the new UI will come with smoother animations and will offer better performance when playing videos and games. There’s support for video ringtones as well.

Even if the EMUI 10 is not based on Android Q, we could see many features of the upcoming major Android release be introduced with the newer version of EMUI such as notification bubbles, sharing shortcuts, and new privacy controls. We are also expecting new AI-related features focused on performance, gaming, and fluidity.

At this Huawei Developer Conference 2019, on 10th August, the company is also going to launch Honor Smart Screen, which is an all-new product category for Smart TVs from the company. It will be running Huawei’s in-house developed HongMeng OS, which is also set to go official during this conference.

How to smartly Read/Reply WhatsApp, Telegram messages with Google Assistant

Not so long ago, some folks have noticed a change in the behavior of Google Assistant such as it reads aloud our notifications when commanded. It’s simply a smart feature which Google rolled out to the Google Assistant on Android without much fanfare or prior announcement. More or less, it’s an indication of how Google has been diligently working to integrate popular messaging services to work with its suave Google Assistant.

google assistant

Here we’ll see how to make your Google Assistant on your Android device to read aloud the message notifications that you’ve in the notification bar. Note that, the Google Assistant can read the announcements from third-party applications such as WhatsApp, Telegram, Slack, Facebook Messenger, Signal, WeChat, and so on. Earlier, it was only possible to read the notifications from Google stock apps such as Hangout or Android Messages.

It’s an icing on the cake that we can even respond to the specific message notification within the Google Assistant, cool to say the least. Without any further ado, let’s see how to make the Google Assistant work as a notification messages reader.

Google Assistant as a Smart Notification Manager

  1. Summon your Google Assistant by whatever mean you find it easy, then command your assistant to read the notifications or messages.
  2. If you’re doing it for the first time, the Assistant needs some permission to do the action.
  3. Give the permission it seeks to read the notifications such as Notification Access permission
  4. If it seeks any other permissions, grant them if you find it that your privacy is not at stake and safe.
  5. Once all is set, the Google Assistant will start to list out and read the notifications present on notifications drawer if any.
  6. If nothing is there, it’ll output as They aren’t any notifications or messages.

How to reply using Google Assitant?

The Google Assistant is also now capable to reply to your messages. After the message is read out, it’ll ask your permission whether to respond or not. If your answer is positive, then you’ve to enter the message either in voice input or type into the given reply card.

Hope you’d enjoyed the new ability of the Google Assistant on your Android device. It could come nifty when you’ve to know the messages arrived on your smartphone, which is 10-20 meter away but can’t access it physically. All you’ve to do is summon the Google by yelling Ok Google Read My Notifications/Messages or something similar commands. That’s it.

Needless to say, Google is heavily investing in the Google Assistant and improving it day by day with the help of machine learning and advanced AI algorithms. With the upcoming stable Android Q announcement, we may see some other improvements that Google has made to its digital assistant. Till then, stay tuned.

Huawei’s Mate 30 Pro to have two massive 40MP camera sensors

If you’ve been looking forward to the Huawei Mate 30 series, prepare yourself because the Huawei Mate 30 Pro may just arrive sporting two absolutely massive 40MP sensors.

The Mate 30 Pro is reported to sport a 40MP main camera and another 40MP ultra wide angle lens. The main camera — despite being spotted in its predecessor — differs in the sense that it has a larger 1/1.55-inch sensor, while the ultra wide angle camera will be of similar size with the P30 Pro’s main camera — a 1/1.7-inch sensor.

Apart from that, the Mate 30 Pro will also get a third telephoto lens which is expected to be of 8MP, similar to the P30 Pro. Since the Mate 20 Pro had a triple camera setup, it’s not entirely impossible if HUAWEI decides to upgrade the Mate 30 Pro’s camera specs and make it a quad camera setup.

In the tweet posted by Ice Universe, the Mate 30 Pro’s sensors are also compared to the Galaxy Note 10’s 12MP 1/2.55-inch sensor. Ice Universe claims that the Note10 has no chance of beating Mate30 Pro in terms of camera hardware, though we’re really not too sure of that claim.

Sensor size isn’t the only factor that affects image quality and given that Samsung‘s Note 10 Plus’ main sensor is expected to have an individual pixel size of 1.4μm, it might, in fact, churn out better photographs than the Mate 30 Pro as its two 40MP sensors will most likely have a pixel size of 1μm. That being said, the company will most likely use pixel binning technology, which will allow it to surpass that limitation and output high-resolution photos with low noise.

Ultimately, it might come down to the software of the two phones, as camera hardware needs better processing to perform at an optimum level. Since Samsung is going to unveil the Note 10 in a couple of days, it won’t be too long before we find out how its camera performs. For the Mate 30 and Mate 30 Pro, we will have to wait a little longer.

However, given what an impressive all-rounder Huawei released in the form of the P30 Pro a few months back, we believe the company can do even better with the Mate 30 Pro.

Today, the Chinese firm has released an official confirmation that reveals that it will be indeed announcing the smartphone on the same date. Unfortunately, the name of the device is still a secret.

The below shown poster states that the Realme Summer Video Technology Communication Meeting will be held on Aug. 15. An image of a rear camera unit of the upcoming Realme phone reveals that it features four camera sensors. Among them, the primary lens will of 64-megapixel. The smartphone will launch first in India since the Indian wing of the company had confirmed in earlier this week it will be unleashing a 64-megapixel quad camera in the country on Aug. 8.

Realme 64MP Quad Camera Phone August 15 China Luanch Date

The mystery Realme phone from the company is expected to feature the Samsung GW1 64-megapixel sensor that has a large size of 1/1.72”. It can capture 64-megapixel selfie shots with a maximum resolution of 9216 x 6912 pixels. Powered with Samsung’s 4-in-1 pixel binning capabilities called Tetracell technology, the 64-megapixel GW1 sensor can snap 16-megapixel resolution images in dim-light conditions.

Realme’s 64-megapixel quad camera phone will be rivaling with Redmi’s 64-megapixel quad camera smartphone that will go official tomorrow. The name of the Redmi device with 64-megapixel lens is also under the wraps. Redmi General Manager, Lu Weibing had confirmed yesterday that the company is working on Redmi Note 8 series. Hence, its unclear whether the Redmi Note 8 or some other device could be equipped with a 64-megapixel camera. Some reports have claimed that the Realme’s 64-megapixel camera phone could be the Realme 5 Pro smartphone.

Xiaomi’s new crowdfunder, a pair of hybrid noise cancelling earphones

Xiaomi‘s crowdfunders usually feature very niche and interesting devices, but today they’ve got something different. Here, we’ve got a brand new pair of Xiaomi bluetooth earbuds, though the big selling point is that they feature what Xiaomi is calling hybrid noise cancelling. They’re fairly affordable too, with crowdfunding price of 439 yuan ($63) and a retail price of 499 yuan ($71).

So, what exactly is hybrid noise cancelling? It’s pretty simple actually. There are two types of noise cancelling, passive and active. Active noise cancelling produces a mirror-image of the sound wave from your surroundings. When the two sounds collide they effectively cancel each other out, and the net result is no sound at all.

Passive noise cancelling is much simpler, and takes no power at all. It essentially comes down top providing a good seal for the headphones to keep out noises. Xiaomi’s hybrid noise cancelling is a combination of the two, which will optimally seal out sound better. Power consumption can also be reduced, which is impotant for bluetooth headphones.

Noise cancelling headphones and earphones have become more of a standard these days. Big audio companies like Audio Technica and Sony have had huge catalogs of noise cancelling headphones for quite a while now, but they’ve always been on the pricier side of the audio spectrum. With the advent of budget manufacturers like Xiaomi joining the fray, we’re finally getting more affordable noise cancelling products which fantastic.

The Huawei P30 Pro Peacock Blue model, first shared by Huawei Central surprisingly features a plain design language. The other colors of the phone are much fancier than this. For example, Amber Sunrise, Pearl White, Aurora and Breathing Crystal are all gradient variants. Then there’s the black color model that’s relatively plain. But this particular model is quite different in the sense that it has a bold peacock blue color with no fancy design elements. That’s unlike Huawei.

Since we don’t have a clear look at the device, there’s a possibility that this is just a blue-colored skin for the P30 Pro. But from what we can see, it’s hard to say that it’s a skin. Nevertheless, if it is indeed a new color for the P30 Pro, we can expect to see it in the coming weeks. Huawei has a tradition of refreshing its older flagships with new color options. Remember the new colors we got for the P20 Pro at IFA 2018? That could possibly happen at this year’s IFA too!

Let’s wait and watch.

Mid-year global semiconductor sales were down 14.5% compared to previous year

The Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA) has announced that the worldwide sales of semiconductors have reached $98.2 billion during the second quarter of 2019. This represents a small increase of 0.3 percent over the previous quarter.

However, the numbers also indicate a 16.8 percent decline compared to the second quarter of last year. Global sales for the month of June 2019 were $32.7 billion, a decrease of 0.9 percent compared to last month’s total of $33.0 billion, and 16.8 percent less than the June 2018 total of $39.3 billion.

Global Semiconductor Sales H1 2019

Cumulatively, year-to-date sales during the first half of 2019 were 14.5 percent lower than they were through the same point in 2018. However, the report says that when looking at regions, sales increased on a month-to-month basis in Japan (2.6 percent), but decreased in America (-0.7 percent), the Asia Pacific/All Other (-0.7 percent), China (-1.5 percent) as well as in Europe (-2.6 percent).

John Neuffer, SIA president and CEO, said: “At the midpoint of 2019, the global semiconductor market remains in a period of decreased sales, with revenues through June lagging the mid-year totals from last year by nearly 15 percent. Year-to-year sales were down across all major regional markets and semiconductor product categories. One silver lining was that sales during the second quarter of 2019 narrowly outpaced sales during the first quarter.”

On a year-to-year basis, sales were down across all regional markets. While Europe registered a decline of 10.9 percent, Japan registered a decline of 12.8 percent. The Asia Pacific and all other region reported a 13.7 percent decline while China and the USA reported a decline of 13.9 percent and 29.5 percent respectively.

Flydigi Wasp 2 Kit Review & Video: The best gamepad for Android?

So far, we have received all kinds of smartphone gaming controllers. Thanks to a growing market and phenomenal games producers, mobile gamers increasingly regard their gaming equipment, not just the phone but also the accessory. Smartphone has a natural advantage that everyone has their phone in the pocket. A smartphone is necessary for a modern human, while a home console probably isn’t. So that’s also the reason why those phenomenal games basically can be aimed at a wider user base. In addition, sociality is another important feature for network games, so smartphone probably is the best platform to achieve a wide sociality for individuals.

Most mobile controllers’ design is not a new design for smartphone specifically. We can exactly find their original design model in other gaming platforms, such as the Xbox controller and Nintendo switch controller. So why they are so similar?

No doubly, they are the most mature controllers for most gamers. Comparing to other types, they don’t require much learn cost but also bring gamers a pretty good experience. However, even though they are much popular, we still believe that this smaller gamepad, Wasp 2 units, is a better choice.

Appearance & design

The whole collection contains three units, a one-handed gamepad, a stinger, and a cooling fan. The identical design brings a highly identifiable appearance, though they may look strange from other controllers. Unlike Xbox controller lookalikes for totally off-screen operation, the left-hand gamepad sticks the phone pretty well with a reliable pop-up gripper. And the smaller stinger firmly grips your phone on the right. And you can adjust its upper mapping point by dragging. The RGB cooling fan can stick on the back by three small suckers as long as your phone has a flat and smooth surface.

The plastic material for the cover decreases the whole weight for comfort in those long sessions. Because when playing games with a gamepad, its overall weight with the phone has a great impact on our gaming experience. To boost the whole grip feeling, the surface gets matt processed, which guarantee the touching comfort when holding it. Other detail like the ergonomic curve and the rubber coat also lead to a better gripping experience.

The main reason that we pick it as our first gamepad, is the small size with separable units. As we just mentioned, a smartphone is a device that you have to carry on, and you can play mobile games on it anytime and anywhere. Therefore, it’s probably the best choice among the full-functional gamepads without taking much space.

Connection

We test its connection and compatibility with many phone brands. The Bluetooth 4.0 connection matches the phones pretty fast on both iOS and Android. Though several times it disturbed the screen touch function at the first connection, it reworks well after several attempts. To open the mapping adjustment, you need to download the official Flydigi App and open it through the USB Debugging. Both the Instructional Manual and the App only support Chinese, so probably it would bring you some tiny difficulties to figure out all the features. And it only supports a USB type-c port, and your android devices should run Android 4.0 or newer. The connection is pretty stable which has nothing complained. And it doesn’t support vertical games. As nobody wants to play it vertically with a gamepad, it’s really not a drawback.

Gaming performance

There is no united operational solution on mobile games, so the pre-customization is important. We tried several games like PUBG Mobile, Honkai Impact 3, Arena of Valor, Fortnite, Minecraft and Knives Out mainly on the OnePlus 7, Xiaomi Mi9 and Blackshark 2 & 2 Pro. It’s a totally different feeling when I play those games with the Wasp 2 units. It almost changed the gaming experience and boosted much of my game skills. Compared to those Xbox and Switch controllers, Wasp 2 combines the gamepad and screen-touch operation and bring it to a balance. If touching only, our clumsy fingers would impact our vision, and be not able to find the virtual buttons accurately. And it probably would take you quite a long session to get it used to the positions and maintain a strange holding state. If gamepad only, the nature of touch-based smartphone will not be taken full advantage.

Especially, when we play battle royal games like Fortnite and PUBG Mobile, it requires faster reaction and multiple-button combination. Then Gamepads are solving most problems, but not all problems. Because most battle royal games or 3D games required vision rotation. The best solution right now is the PC mouse. But sorry we cannot bring it to mobile games. But a second choice is on the table, the touching. The best solutions on a smartphone still cannot leave the touching operation. Wasp 2’s design is probably aimed at the dilemma, but they don’t simply jam too many buttons and cause much burden for your right hand. They arrange the limited 6 buttons on the comfortable position for fingers, including one stinger at the back. Otherwise, the additional right stinger is much clever as it does not just free the left hands but also avoid blocking our vision.

During playing PUBG Mobile and other Battle royal games, the best solution is to map ‘aiming’ to the right stinger, and ‘shooting’ to the rear LT button of left gamepad respectively, and leave only my right thumb to control the vision rotation. No vision blocked, no reaction laggy, and not much learning cost.

RGB fan

The RGB fan has tree gears to adjust the airflow. As a gaming accessory, a gradual RGB effect is not allowed to be absent. A problem here is that though it’s pretty small size, it still takes a significant rear space. It probably not fit the small-size phone with a curved or rough surface, especially when it works with the other two units. As it causes holding discomfort to some extent, it is not in our recommended list.

Another drawback for the whole units is the power charging. Because there is no indicator for power, so probably you would worry about running out of the power next minute, or just find out that it runs out the power last minute without charging.

Nubia Z20 shown off in Pantone’s Living Coral color by co-founder

Nubia Z20 will be officially announced on August 8 in Beijing. But the co-founder and president of Nubia smartphone decided to tease us with a glimpse of the upcoming smartphone earlier today. He shared a render of the phone’s curved screen coming in a unique Living Coral inspired color, which is Pantone’s Color of the Year 2019.

Nubia Z20 living coral koi red

Ni Fei, President of the Nubia brand reveals that the upcoming Nubia Z20 will feature a curved design on the front as well as the back. We can see that the bezels on the sides are pretty thin and extends to the bottom with only a slight increase in thickness. There’s a black strip going through the sides, which is likely just a design element. There’s also the inscription, ‘DESIGNED BY NUBIA’ on the left side of the device.

Nubia Z20’s color in the render is particularly unique because it’s inspired by the Living Coral color theme. The company is calling it as the ‘Koi Red’ (likely because the company thinks the color is close to the red patches on the Koi fish). Judging from the black line that goes through the side, we could see more instances of black on this phone.

TENAA listing also confirmed the Nubia Z20’s design and specs. We know that there will be a 6.42-inch OLED display upfront along with another display at the back, again an OLED panel but featuring a smaller 5.1-inch display with a lower HD+ resolution. The phone continues with the dual fingerprint design from the Nubia X. As for the cameras, there’s a triple camera setup at the back arranged horizontally on top with a dual-tone flash on each sides of the setup. The phone is thick at 9mm, likely because of the additional screen at the back and a large 3900mAh battery.

Nubia Z20 is expected to bring a flagship-level camera experience, even capable of shooting 8K videos. The company has already shared a few samples from the device and they look beautiful, especially all the landscapes. So, we hope to see a stellar camera performance from the upcoming flagship.

HTC stops selling smartphones in the UK due to patent issues

HTC, a Taiwan-based consumer electronics company, which hasn’t been doing well since the past few years in the smartphone market, is now reportedly caught up in a patent dispute. Because of this patent issue, the company has now pulled all of its smartphone devices from sale in the United Kingdom.

htc

A UK-based company named IPCom GmbH & Co. KG, which specializes in intellectual property licensing and Research & Development, is fighting HTC over patents dispute. The details of this particular legal dispute aren’t too interesting, but HTC agreed at one point to only sell phones in the UK that didn’t violate IPCom’s patents of a wireless technology developed for car phones.

Munich-based Ipcom has alleged it carried out tests earlier this year that showed no workaround had been implemented. IPCom is now alleging that HTC failed to “play by the rules” and has a “disregard for the law by contravening a UK court ruling”.

However, HTC spokesperson told BBC that “we are proactively investigating an infringement claim by a third party with respect to a single handset model.” Meantime, HTC’s website now lists all smartphones as out of stock, though Amazon UK still has a few models left. Other products from HTC, which includes 5G router and virtual reality headsets, remain on sale.

HTC is reportedly making a comeback in the Indian smartphone market with a new flagship smartphone series later this month. The company had stopped selling phones in India due to the low sales and its South Asia head and in-charge of Indian business Faisal Siddiqui had resigned.

There was a time when HTC’s smartphones were known for the build quality and design, the speakers, the user interface and much more, which is no longer the case. India is a price-sensitive market and currently has cut-throat competition. If HTC wants to succeed this time in India, it will have to offer value-for-money phones with aggressive pricing.

Upcoming Xiaomi 5G phone bags 3C certification

At the end of the previous month, a 5G enabled Xiaomi phone with model number M1908F1XE was spotted at the database of TENAA. Xiaomi Mi MIX 4 Rumors

The last Mi MIX model from the company i.e. the Mi MIX 3 5G was a smartphone that carried support for 5G connectivity. Hence, it goes without saying that its successor model will also come equipped with 5G support. However, its uncertain whether the upcoming Mi MIX model will be called Mi MIX 3s or Mi MIX 4. Since the number 4 is considered as bad omen in China, the company may skip the Mi MIX 4 to launch it as Mi MIX 5.

Xiaomi is expected to announce the next Mi MIX smartphone in October this year. Hence, the rumor mill is expected to spill plenty of information on its specifications and design in the coming weeks. Since it will be a premium flagship phone from the company, it may either feature Snapdragon 855 or Snapdragon 855+. The chances of the company choosing the latter seems likely since the Mi MIX 3 5G was fueled by the SD855 chipset.

Rumors surrounding the upcoming Mi MIX smartphone have revealed that it will be arriving with faster wireless charging technology than 20W wireless charging available on the Xiaomi Mi 9. Also, an XDA Developers report from last week had revealed that the upcoming Mi MIX smartphone will come with reverse wireless charging feature. It goes without saying that it will continuous to boast a high screen-to-body ratio like the predecessor models.
