Redmi’s GM reveals a Redmi 5G Phone is in the works

5G is gradually gaining ground in several regions since it started rolling out. We expect the new technology to gain even more grounds by next year. Thus, we also expect a good number of OEMs to release a 5G phone next year. In China, the rollout of 5G phones has been relatively slow, perhaps due to the slow pace of 5G launch by China’s telecom carriers. A number of 5G phones have been announced like the Mate 20X, OPPO Reno, ZTE Axon 10 Pro 5G, Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 5G. Redmi may join this exclusive list soon. Lu Weibing, vice-president of Xiaomi Group and Redmi GM disclosed about the Redmi 5G phone in a recent Weibo post when he was asked if the brand has got one in the works. Sadly, he offered no further detail.Redmi 5G phone

Xiaomi’s Redmi brand is an entirely independent brand with its own product offerings ranging from budget, mid-range to flagship models. The company is also launching other Redmi-branded smart home products. Mr Weibing had earlier extolled 5G which he says will change the society. 5G network speed is blazing fast and is expected to have covered major cities in China by the end of next year. He also predicted that the prices of 5G  phones should drop by the second half of next year to below 2000 yuan.

VivoX moniker trademarked; Could it debut as commercial edition of Vivo APEX 2019?

Earlier this year, Vivo had showcased the Vivo APEX 2019 concept phone with button-less and port-less design in China. Fresh information shared by Lets Go Digital reveals that the Chinese firm has trademarked VivoX moniker with European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO). Could it be the name of the commercial version of the APEX 2019 phone?

The trademark filing of VivoX moniker was done by Rolim, Mietzel, Wohlnick & Calheiros from Düsseldorf, Germany. In the past, the same firm was responsible for trademarking the Vivo NEX name. The Vivo NEX smartphone was made official two months after the name was trademarked with EUIPO by the said firm.

The trademark filing reveals that apart from the name, the company has also registered a logo. The logo suggests that the VivoX name could be the name of the next high-end phone from the company. The EUIPO classifies the moniker as Class 9 that includes smartphones, covers for ‘smartphones, battery chargers, wireless earbuds.’

vivoX-EUIPO

Vivo is known for using innovative technologies on its smartphones. In 2018, Vivo had launched the Vivo X20 Plus UD to become the first company to launch a smartphone with in-display fingerpint scanner. It had impressed the smartphone industry last year by launching one of the first notch-less and bezel-less Vivo NEX phone. By the end of 2018, it may release the Vivo NEX Dual Display with flagship specs and dual displays. At the ongoing Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2019 tech event, it has demoed the 120W Super FlashCharge technology. It will be unleashing its first 5G phone in Q3 this year. Hence, the VivoX device may arrive with some innovative features.

At the beginning of 2018, the Chinese firm had revealed the concept model of Vivo APEX bezel-less phone, and it had announced its commercial edition as the Snapdragon 845 powered Vivo NEX phone with pop-up selfie camera by mid-2018. Hence, Vivo is expected to release a commercial version of the APEX 2019 concept phone this year. It remains to be seen whether it will be called VivoX.

Recent reports have claimed that Vivo is working on a foldable phone. The company may use the VivoX for its first foldable phone or a completely different device. Hence, it is advisable to wait for further reports to know more on it.

Lenovo Z6 camera specs confirmed; features a 24 MP Sony IMX576 primary sensor

Lenovo, the Chinese company which has already launched the flagship Lenovo Z6 Pro and the watered-down Lenovo Z6 Youth Edition smartphones in its home market, is now gearing up to launch the standard edition — Lenovo Z6.

Ahead of the official launch announcement, the company has been sharing specifications and features of the upcoming smartphone through Weibo, a Chinese microblogging platform. After revealing details about the phone’s chipset and battery, it’s now time for the camera department.

Today, Lenovo Group Vice President Chang Cheng shared an image on Weibo which reveals the camera specifications of Lenovo Z6. The smartphone will come with a triple camera setup on the back panel.

Lenovo Z6 Camera Specifications

The triple camera module will consist of a 24-megapixel Sony IMX576 as a primary sensor with f/1.8 aperture, a 5-megapixel secondary camera sensor, and an 8-megapixel tertiary camera sensor with 8x hybrid zoom and 2x optical zoom support. On the front side, the smartphone will come equipped with a 16-megapixel snapper.

It was recently confirmed that the Lenovo Z6 will come powered by a 4,000mAh battery and will come with support for 15W Quick Charge 3.0 fast charging technology but is rated for 18W fast charging. Lenovo adds that the battery can provide a standby time of 395 hours, talk time of 38 hours, video playback of 26 hours, and gameplay for 16 hours.

While it’s known that the phone will come with a 6.39-inch display, nothing more has been revealed in terms of display features. Since the Lenovo Z6 Pro and Z6 Youth Edition are equipped with waterdrop-like notch display, the standard Z6 could also come equipped with the same kind of display design

Recently, while revealing the design-related details of the upcoming phone, the company said that the Lenovo Z6 will be the lightest smartphone powered by a 4,000mAh battery, weighing at 159 grams.

Meitu-branded phone will not arrive until 2020

When Xiaomi and Meitu announced their partnership last year, it was revealed that Xiaomi will develop, manufacture, and market Meitu-branded smartphones while Meitu will provide imaging technology.

Xiaomi Meitu CC series

However, the first product from their partnership isn’t carrying Meitu’s name but Xiaomi. The upcoming Xiaomi CC9 is the first smartphone under a new line called CC. So when will we see the first Meitu smartphone manufactured by Xiaomi?

According to the response given by Lei Jun when asked the above question by a Weibo user, Meitu-branded phones will arrive next year but until then, the new CC line is the result of the Xiaomi-Meitu partnership. This means the Meitu phone with the flip camera will not launch this year even if that render is actually genuine.

Up until then, Xiaomi will continue to launch camera-focused devices under the new CC line. Phones under the new line will have Xiaomi’s branding but will make use of Meitu’s imaging technology.

Some US companies have resumed supplying to Huawei

Things may be looking good for Huawei has some US companies have resumed shipping products to the Chinese company. US chipmaker, Micron is said to be one of the top firms that have begun shipping goods to Huawei.

The chip manufacturer is able to do this without breaking any law thanks to the ban which sanctions only goods that contain 25% or more of components or materials sourced from the US. It also doesn’t affect goods that are not manufactured in the US or those not labeled as “Made in the US”.

Intel and some other market leaders have also been reported to have resumed shipping products to Huawei.

Mr. Sanjay Mehrotra who is the top official at Micron warned investors that there is “ongoing uncertainty” with respect to Huawei’s predicament, so they can’t “predict the volumes or duration” they will be able to continue shipping products to Huawei.

He added that the Huawei ban cost the company 200 million dollars in revenue for its fiscal third quarter which ended on May 30 as the Chinese giant is its biggest client. The ban is expected to affect over a thousand American companies too.

Micron’s shares rose by as much as 13.8% today following the news that it has resumed shipping to Huawei.

The Huawei-US saga is still on and is part of a trade war between the US and the Chinese governments.

Micron used to own the storage brand Lexar before it was acquired by Longsys, a Chinese-based company. Early this year, Micron announced the first 1TB MicroSD card in the world.
