UMIDIGI A5 Pro: Hands-on review of the $100 triple camera king! (video)

UMIDIGI A5 Pro hit the market like a thunder, becoming the most affordable entry-level phone with an ultra-wide angle triple camera. Since its launch, it became an instant hit thanks to its $100 price tag and incredible specs. So, it is time to see it in action in this short hands-on video below.

FHD+ display and Breathing Crystal design

Big notches and large bezels are a thing of the past so the UMIDIGI A5 Pro has only a tiny waterdrop notch and a small bottom bezel that is rare among so affordable smartphones. This means that the 6.3″ screen looks beautiful and visual experience is immersive. Thanks to the FHD+ (1080p) panel, details are crisp and clear unlike other phones in the same price category like the Redmi 7 that comes with a humble, HD+ (720p) panel.

What’s more, the back of the phone is all glass and comes in 2 colors: Breathing Crystal and Space Grey. The Breathing Crystal version shines like the Huawei P30 Pro’s one and it looks pretty premium. Also, the middle frame is made of metal and that’s another plus to the phone’s overall build quality.

Capture more with the Ultra-Wide Angle lens

The camera is a department where all manufacturers invest in and UMIDIGI did the same with A5 Pro as there is a triple sensor configuration on the back: a 16MP main sensor, an 8MP ultra-wide angle lens, and a depth lens for use in Bokeh effect. In fact, this is the first triple camera setup on a UMIDIGI device and the first $100 device with an ultra-wide lens. Photos look more than ok while the ultra-wide lens allows you to fit more information into the photo like on the Galaxy S10+ and other flagships. Also, the selfie camera features a 16MP high-resolution sensor.

Smooth Gaming and 4150mAh Battery

UMIDIGI A5 Pro

As for the rest of the specs, it is powered by the Helio P23 octa-core SoC backed by 4GB of RAM and it is capable of running heavy games like PUBG smoothly. In the meantime, you won’t have to worry about running out of battery in the middle of the day as the 4150mAh will last longer than that. The A5 Pro has a triple slot design and it can support two SIM cards/dual-4G support and a microSD card at the same time and it comes with Android 9 Pie preinstalled.

The UMIDIGI A5 Pro on sale right now on the company’s official store for $99.99 with the first orders expected to ship out on June 26th. In addition, UMIDIGI is globally recruiting 30 trial users to test the UMIDIGI Ubeats, UMIDIGI Uwatch 2, and UMIDIGI Selfie Stick (10 units each) to help in improving the user experience. You can check out all the details about the A5 Pro and join the giveaway on their official website.

Samsung Galaxy SM-T545 Snapdragon 710 tablet benchmarked on Geekbench

Recently, a new Samsung tablet with model number SM-T545 and SM-T545X was approved by the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC). Today, the SM-T545 Galaxy tablet has popped on Geekbench benchmarking platform. It reveals that it may debut as the first Snapdragon 710 chipset powered tablet.

On Geekbench, the Galaxy SM-T545 has appeared with Snapdragon 710 chipset and 4 GB of RAM. It is loaded with Android 9 Pie OS. In the single-core and multi-core tests of Geekbench, the Galaxy SM-T545 has respectively scored 929 and 4450 points.

Samsung-Galaxy-SM-T545-Geekbench

Before the arrival of the Snapdragon 730, the Snapdragon 710 chipset from last year was the next SoC after the Snapdragon 855 for mobile devices.  It appears that the tablet will slot itself between the Snapdragon 670 chipset driven Galaxy Tab S5e and the upcoming Galaxy Tab S5 that is expected to feature Snapdragon 855 chipset. The SM-T545 and SM-T545X could be its LTE versions and its Wi-Fi only version may have SM-T540 model number.

In related news, Samsung has an entry-level tablet waiting in the pipeline to go official. Rumors have it that SM-T295, SM-T295C, SM-T295N and SM-T295C are the LTE editions of the tablet. The SM-T290 will be its Wi-Fi only edition. The tablet is expect4ed to arrive with specs like 8-inch display, Snapdragon 429 chipset, 2 GB of RAM, 32 GB of inbuilt storage and Android 9 Pie OS. Unfortunately, the exact moniker of the tablet is not known yet. However, it is expected to arrive as an entry-level Galaxy Tab A device.

In August, the South Korean company will be announcing the Galaxy Note 10 and Galaxy Note 10 Pro smartphones. Just like the Galaxy Tab S4 was made official around the time Galaxy Note 9 was announced in August 2019, the firm is expected to unleash the Galaxy S5 flagship tablet around the time Galaxy Note 10 series is made official.

The Galaxy Tab S5 was spotted on Geekbench earlier this month with Snapdragon 855 chipset, 6 GB of RAM and Android 9 Pie OS. The tablet is expected to carry support for keyboard connectivity and S-Pen stylus. Like the predecessor model lacked a 3.5mm audio jack. Hence, the Galaxy Tab S5 is unlikely to feature it.

New XIDU PhilBook Y13 laptop revealed, comes with 8GB RAM

XIDU has already released 2 new laptops recently, Philbook Max and Tour Pro, and both received a warm welcome by users, especially when they come with discount coupons. But a company’s R&D department never stops to develop so a new laptop is going to be released soon named PhilBook Y13. Let’s take a look at it before its official launch!

XIDU PhilBook Y3
The Y13 is another easy to carry and lightweight model as it measures 307.4mm*210.7mm and has a 13.3″ display. The case retains the same design as in TOur Pro with Dark Grey metal but with some details different. The metal spindle is more like that of Philbook Pro while there are newly added heat dissipation holes being that enable the device to increase its heat-dissipation capacity.

XIDU PhilBook Y3

Following the tradition of other models, the PhilBook Y13 is a 2in1 laptop as there is a metal hinge that allows the lid to rotate 360°. That, combined with the multi-touch display, turns it into a tablet in seconds. Other than that, there are other modes like tent mode to use when watching a movie for example.

XIDU PhilBook Y3
XIDU has been paying great importance to screen quality in all of its products and PhilBook Y13 is no exception. It sports an IPS panel with FHD resolution and the bezels are ultra-narrow at 4.9mm, with the total screen/body ratio reaching 75%. Definitely, considerable progress for XIDU that used to have laptops with big borders.

XIDU PhilBook Y3As far as performance is concerned, the PhilBook Y13 comes with the 8th Gen Intel Kaby Lake R CPU combined with Intel’s 610 GPU accompanied by 8GB of LPDDR4 RAM. It is intended for light office work and to that direction, it features all the basic ports like 1xUSB 3.0 Type-A port, a Type-C port, 3.5mm headphone jack, and one TF card slot that supports SDHC/SDXC memory cards. If you’ve been looking for an affordable yet capable laptop, keep an eye on the news over the next days for the official launch of the PhilBook Y13.

Huawei sues the US commerce department over seized equipment

A court filing has shown that Huawei instituted a lawsuit against the US commerce department for impounding some telecommunications equipment which was shipped to the US from China.huawei logo

In the court document, Huawei disclosed that it had shipped telecommunications equipment from China, including a computer server and Ethernet switch, to a testing laboratory in California. When it was done with the testing, the equipment was shipped back to China. The company claimed in the lawsuit that no application for a license was made because none was needed. However, the equipment was confiscated by the US government and held in a facility in Alaska and no decision has been made about whether a license is required to ship it, the filing said.

EDITOR’S PICK: Xiaomi shipped over 1 million Mi Smart Band 4 in just 8 days

The suit which was instituted on Friday is challenging whether the telecommunications equipment is covered by the Export Administration Regulations (EAR). In general, the EAR governs whether a person may export a thing from the U.S., reexport the thing from a foreign country, or transfer a thing from one person to another in a foreign country. The EAR applies to physical things (sometimes referred to as “commodities”) as well as technology and software.

The Chinese tech giant is of the opinion that the equipment did not require a license because it did not fall into a controlled category and because it was made outside the United States and was being returned to the same country from which it came. Thus, the company is praying that equipment is either released for shipment or for the Commerce Department to decide that it was shipped illegally.

First look at Realme’s 64MP quad camera phone, arrives in H2 2019

Following the tweet by Realme’s CEO revealing they will launch a 64MP quad camera smartphone this year. and showing us the first camera sample, the official Realme Weibo account has given us a first look at the device.

Realme 64PMP Quad Camera Phone

The unnamed Realme phone will have its quad rear cameras lined up vertically on the left side of the phone. All the sensors will share a single housing with the main 64MP sensor having yellow rings around it. Finally, flanking the cameras is an LED flash.

The post says users will be able to shoot ultra-high pixel images with a resolution of 9216 x 6912. The cameras will also have AI features for the best output when shooting.

Other than the cameras, there isn’t much else the image reveals about the design of the phone. However, since this was shared by the Weibo account, we have a feeling the phone will launch first in China.

Europe’s largest retailer Carrefour joins Amazon to exit the China market

In April, Amazon announced that it would be exiting the Chinese market due to stifling competition from domestic brands. The US company has been joined by French retail chain Carrefour which announced a deal with electronics retailer Suning.com that will mark its exit from China. The deal involves Suning buying an 80% stake of the company’s Chinese operations with an option to buy the remaining 20% stake if the retail giant chose to exit the market entirely.

The announcement caused Carrefour’s shares to soar as investors are receptive of moves to divest from China where sales have fallen and the firm has been incurring an operating loss. The retail giant has reportedly spent years trying to fix its business in China which has been in existence since 1995. Unfortunately, things were still not looking positive as sales fell 5.9% to 4.1 billion euros and its operating loss was 32 million euros.

The Chinese market hasn’t been a favourable one for foreign firms as fierce competition from domestic rivals and a growing online market puts pressure on existing firms. Amazon is scheduled to close its online store in China next month. There are reports that German wholesaler Metro AG, with up to 93 stores in China, is also looking to sell its China unit amid a wider company restructuring.

Samsung Galaxy M30s to launch soon in Blue, Black and White colors

Samsung had launched the Galaxy M30 smartphone in India in February. Recent reports have revealed that a new edition of the smartphone is in works and it may debut in the market as Galaxy M30s. A new report by MySmartPrice reveals that the Galaxy M30s will go official in India soon and it will release in colors like Blue, Black and White.

The Galaxy M30 comes in Blue and Black colors, but the Galaxy M30s will be arriving in an additional color of White. The report has no information on the exact launch date, but only mentions that it will be debuting soon. Probably, the smartphone may go official in the third quarter of the year.

The Galaxy M30s was recently spotted with SM-M307F model number of Geekbench. It revealed instead of the Exynos 7904 chipset that powers the Galaxy M30, the M30s will be coming with more powerful Exynos 9610 chipset which also fuels the Galaxy A50 smartphone. The SoC will be coupled with 4 GB of RAM and it will deliver Android 9 Pie out of the box experience.

samsung-galaxy-m30

Previous leaks have claimed that the Galaxy M30s will be releasing models like 64 GB and 128 GB storage. The handset may retain the 15W fast charging enabled 5,000mAh battery found on the Galaxy M30 phone. Nothing else is known on the specs of the Galaxy M30s.

The Galaxy M30s is speculated to be positioned between the M30 and M40. Hence, there is a possibility that the 6 GB + 128 GB Galaxy M30 may receive a price cut before the M30s goes official.

In related news, the publication claims that Samsung India will be also debuting a new color variant of Prism Silver for the Galaxy S10+ in the country. The new color model of the S10+ was made available in some markets earlier this month.

Earlier this year, Realme had launched Realme 3 and Realme 3 Pro smartphones in India. The Realme 3 Pro was introduced as Realme X Lite in China along with the Realme X phone that came with a notch-less display and pop-up selfie snapper. While Realme fans in India are eagerly waiting for the arrival of Realme X smartphone in the country, Realme India CEO Madhav Sheth has confirmed through a tweet that the company will be launching India’s first smartphone with 64-megapixel camera.

Sheth’s tweet has not revealed the name of the 64-megapixel camera phone. However, it has been described as the “new premium killer.” The mysterious smartphone will be equipped with Samsung’s 64-megapixel GW1 largest 1/1.72 sensor that has a big pixel size of 1.6micron. The tweet that carries the following camera sample further states that it can shoot amazing clear shots in low-light conditions.

The below image has a “64MP AI Quad Camera” watermark which confirms that the phone will be featuring four rear-facing cameras. It will be the first Realme phone to feature four rear-mounted camera sensors. Could it be the Realme 4 Pro or an entirely new device? Whatever the device may be called, the company will be launching it first in India before anywhere else.

Realme 64 MP Camera Sample

No other details of the mysterious Realme phone with 64MP quad camera is available yet. Last year, the Realme 2 was announced in August and the Realme 2 Pro was made official in September. Hence, the Realme 4 and Realme 4 Pro are expected to release around the same time this year.

Realme is not the only company that is working on a 64-megapixel camera smartphone. Recent reports have revealed that Xiaomi’s sub-brand Redmi is also working on a 64-megapixel phone. However, there is no confirmation on the name device, and it is not known whether it will be featuring a quad camera setup. Recently, a tipster had claimed one of the upcoming Galaxy A-series phones will also feature a 64-megapixel camera.

What do you think about the 64MP camera phone’s image sample shared by Sheth? Sheth will be sharing more camera samples of the mysterious Realme soon.

Leaked images of Huawei’s first tablet for India appear

Huawei re-entered the India market last year with the introduction of Huawei P20 series. The Chinese firm has since then launched devices such as Huawei Nova 3 series, Huawei Y9 (2019) and Huawei Watch GT. The company also plans to launch the Huawei Mate X foldable phone in India in the near future. Leaked information shared by reliable tipster Ishan Agarwal reveals Huawei is planning to enter the tablets market in India. He has also shared images of the first tablet that will be heading to the country without mentioning its name.

The images show that the first Huawei tablet for India will have thick bezels around the display. It will be equipped with a front-facing camera and a rear-mounted snapper. The tablet is shown in Black color. The wallpaper shown in the image and design of the tablet suggest that it could be MediaPad T5 tablet that was introduced last year in August in China.

The Huawei MediaPad T5 has a 10.1-inch IPS LCD panel that produces full HD resolution of 1920 x 1200 pixels. It is loaded with Android 8.0 Oreo OS and GPU Turbo technology. The older Kirin 659 chipset is present under the hood of the tablet with up to 3 GB of RAM. It has a rear camera of 5-megapixel and a front camera of 2-megapixel. It is packed with a 5,100mAh battery. The tablet was introduced in Black and Champagne Gold color options.

In the last week, Huawei had launched the MediaPad M6 series of tablets in China. The 10.8 and 8.4-inch MediaPad M6 tablets are flagship devices powered by Kirin 980 chipset and 4 GB of RAM. They are equipped with big batteries and quad speakers. It appears that the company may want to launch mid-range tablets in India before releasing models with flagship specs.

Coming back to MediaPad T5, its Wi-Fi only versions such as 3 GB RAM + 32 GB storage and 4 GB RAM + 64 GB storage were respectively unveiled in China with 1,399 Yuan (~$203) and 1,599 Yuan price tags (~$232). The 6 GB RAM + 64 GB storage’s LTE model was introduced in the home market with a price tag of 1,799 Yuan (~$261). If the MediaPad T5 arrives in India, it could be coming with a starting price of less than Rs. 15,000.

OnePlus TV launch rumored to take place very soon

It’s already known that China-based smartphone maker OnePlus has been working on a smart TV which the company is internally calling OnePlus TV. It was announced by OnePlus CEO Pete Lau last year.

After the revelation that the company is working on OnePlus TV, there has been no update regarding this smart TV. Now, it seems that the company is finally ready to launch the product. According to the report from leakster Ishan Agarwal, OnePlus TV launch in “not very far away”. However, he has not provided any more details regarding the launch.

Earlier, when the company announced that it is working on a Smart TV, OnePlus CEO Pete Lau said that the company is targeting mid-2019 to launch the product. However, later he said that the launch could get pushed to 2020. But the latest development seems to suggest that the earlier estimate is right and the OnePlus TV could get launched in the coming months.

The company has already said that the smart TV from OnePlus will be unlike the television sets available in the market today. OnePlus is planning to introduce a smart TV that will run on its own AI engine. The TV will be able to easily communicate with a smartphone and become smarter with time, thanks to its AI integration.

Further, the TV will also have a way to seamlessly connect with the smartphone, enabling it to show reminders and traffic information among others. There will be a built-in camera as well. In addition, Pete Lau said that the company will also have a solution for the concerns related to the home-privacy.

During the launch of OnePlus 7 series smartphones in Bengaluru, India, Vikas Gupta, India Head for OnePlus said that the OnePlus TV is the company’s next focus for the Indian market, without revealing any more information. This hints that whenever the OnePlus TV gets launched, India will be among the first countries to get it.
