The foldable Huawei Mate X is still coming and we know when it’ll launch: September or sooner, according to a Huawei executive. “It’s coming in September – at the latest,” said Vincent Pang, President of Huawei‘s Western European Region, while visiting New York City. “Probably earlier, but definitely September is guaranteed.”
Where will the Huawei Mate X launch? “Any country that has 5G,” Pang told us, making sure to remind us that Huawei’s foldable phone is a 5G phone. This was likely stressed because the Samsung Galaxy Fold launched with a 4G LTE version (before ultimately being recalled), with a 5G version only spoken about once and never officially priced. This probably needs no mention, but it’s also quite obvious the US will probably never get to see the device.
Now that big question is, what will the Mate X’s operating system be? Will the Mate X actually run Android, or will we finally see HongMeng OS? According to Pang, the Mate X will definitely be running Android “Because it has already been announced,” suggesting that it may fall outside of Trump administration’s ban on US companies from dealing with Huawei.
Huawei has used the last few months to improve the P-OLED screen on the device. Peng says what Huawei is doing to prevent it from getting caught up with the same problems that Samsung had with its foldable is “… a secret. But we have done a lot of tests, especially for that.” Whether this will hold true once we actually get the device remains to be seen.

If you care about the aesthetics, the Honor 20 Pro is the perfect device for you. It has a punch-hole display which minimizes the bezels without the need of a notch, and an outstanding reflective glass back. You get a similar stunning glass back even on the Huawei P30 and the Huawei Nova 5 Pro, but they have a standard display with a waterdrop notch instead of a punch-hole one. While Honor 20 Pro is the winner when it comes to design, Huawei Nova 5 Pro and Huawei P30 come with a better display. Given that it is HDR10-compliant, Huawei P30 is able to deliver a better color reproduction with multimedia content, but on the other hand, the Huawei Nova 5 Pro has a bigger screen. The 6.1 inches of the Huawei P30 may be not sufficient for some advanced users, that is why we highlight this. Honor 20 Pro sits in the middle in terms of display size, but it has a classic IPS panel which can not reach their quality.
Hardware/Software
Huawei P30, Huawei Nova 5 Pro and Honor 20 Pro are all powered by the Kirin 980 chipset and they offer similar speeds and smoothness. That is essentially why we chose this trio for this comparison. Xiaomi is launching the Redmi K20 smartphone outside the Chinese market as the Mi 9T. After launching the phone in Europe, the company has now today launched the same smartphone in Malaysia, as expected.
The Xiaomi Mi 9T features a 6.39-inch AMOLED display that comes with a screen resolution of 2340 x 1080 pixels and a tall aspect ratio of 19.5:9. It comes integrated with the latest seventh-generation in-display fingerprint reader.
Under the hood, the device is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 730 octa-core processor, coupled with 6GB of RAM. The phone comes in two storage options — 64GB and 128GB. It also a microSD card slot that enables users to further expand the phone’s storage capacity.
Coming to the camera department, the smartphone features a triple camera setup on the back side, which consists of a 48 MP Sony IMX586 primary sensor, a 13 MP secondary sensor, and an 8 MP tertiary sensor. On the front side, it comes equipped with a 20 MP snapper with a pop-up mechanism for taking selfies and video calling.

Despite the US trade ban, Huawei continues to move on resiliently. The company today unveiled some new products but at the top of the pack is the Nova 5 series comprising the Nova 5, Nova 5 Pro and Nova 5i. The Nova 5 Pro is the star of the series which had the flagship Kirin 980 chipset onboard. Here’s a look at the unboxing pictures of the Nova 5 Pro as captured by Chinese tech blog MyDrivers.
The front design of the Nova 5 Pro uses the waterdrop notch design on a 6.39-inch OLED screen. The display has a full HD+ resolution of 1080 x 2340 pixels. Huawei Nova series is traditionally a mid-range series but this is definitely an upper mid-range phone that can even be confused for a flagship considering the design and hardware.
The bezels at the top are ultra-thin, thanks to the water drop design. The sides also have minimal bezels and even the chin holds an extremely reduced bezel. The display supports DC dimming, DCI-P3 and has the German TUV certification.
The Nova 5 Pro uses an optical in-screen fingerprint scanner so a physical fingerprint button is conspicuously missing at the rear. Also, the device packs a quad rear camera setup with three of the sensors stacked at the top left with an LED flash on a single module and a fourth sensor standing along by the side of the third sensor. The camera bump isn’t too big which is a good thing.
In addition, the gradient finish on the rear panel is difficult to miss as it adds extra aesthetics to the phone design. The Nova 5 Pro has the power button and volume rockers at the top right side of the display but surprisingly, the SIM card module is moved to the top edge of the phone. Sadly, there is no 3.5mm audio jack. However, it uses a USB-C port which delivers fast charging to its 3500mAh battery.The device ships with a 40W fast charging adapter.
As stated, the Nova 5 Pro is powered by the Kirin 980 flagship chipset found in the Huawei P30 series and Mate 20 series. It is available in 8GB+128GB and 8GB+256GB memory variants with no room for expansion. Although it may seem strange to some, customized insoles is a big industry since many people face orthopedical problems that require custom shoes and insoles. In a lengthy Weibo post, Xiaomi’s CEO Lei Jun shed light on the reason why the company chose the name CC for the new series. He revealed CC means Colorful & Creative and is developed by the Chic & Cool 90 team which likely comprise staffs from Xiaomi and Meitu’s R&D.
The new series is expected to get two new smartphones under its portfolio and they will go by the monikers Xiaomi CC9 and CC9e. We had expected the phones to be announced today but that didn’t happen. However, Lei Jun also explained that the number 9 in the CC9 moniker represents the age of the company (Xiaomi is 9 years this year). He also hinted the brand will be sold globally as an independent brand when he said the phone is focused on young people around the world.
The Chic and Cool 90 team which is responsible for the product development consists mainly of young persons born in the 90s, which makes it the youngest product team at Xiaomi. Lei Jun also revealed, surprisingly, that more than half of the team members are drawn from the arts and fine arts professions, unlike other Xiaomi product teams. This is because the series is focused more on aesthetics with the use of trendy colours.
But then, the phone will not lag behind in the hardware configuration. Xiaomi’s CEO equally disclosed that the device will be a flagship for young people. It will feature the new aesthetic concept of“Xiaomi X Meitu AI Aesthetics Lab”. It will have the best imaging solution regardless of the sensor onboard. The product will combine advanced camera hardware and beauty technology in order to create a Colorful and Creative photo experience both for the front and rear cameras.

It has been two weeks already, and an eventful one at that, since Xiaomi launched the Oclean X Sonic toothbrush under the Youpin platform for crowdfunding. The toothbrush was unique in that it comes with a touchscreen which displays all the relevant brushing parameters and other details you would have checked from a smartphone app.
The Oclean X crowdfunding exercise ended today and Oclean has released the result of the exercise. Turn out the Oclean X elicited strong interest among buyers in China and even outside China. The crowdfunding saw the smart toothbrush generating the huge sum of 13.82 million yuan. This sum was raised by 55,524 backers. That is monumental for an electric toothbrush but we believe the success is hinged on the touchscreen display and other smart features it packs. The Oclean X was offered for 249 yuan (~$36) with an extra brush head during the crowdfunding but will go on sale for 299 yuan (~$43) now that the crowdfunding is over.

Chinese tech giant Huawei has launched the Honor 8s smartphone in the United Kingdom. The Honor 8s is an entry-level device and that is reflected in its pricing. The device is available in the UK for £99.99 via Amazon. The phone is not locked to any network and is SIM-free.
The Honor 8s was first launched in Russia in April. The smartphone packs a 5.71-inch LCD touchscreen display with an HD+ resolution of 720×1520 pixels and water drop notch. At the heart of the phone is a MediaTek Helio A22 SoC paired with 2GB of RAM. The phone comes with 32GB of expandable storage. On the camera aspect, there is a 13 MP main camera with f/1.8 aperture and for selfies, the 8s packs a 5 MP snapper housed inside the water drop notch. Keeping the lights on is a 3,020 mAh battery. It runs Android 9 Pie with EMUI 9 lite on top. The model on offer is the Blue variant only but the phone also comes in Black and Gold colours.
Honor UK has also slashed the prices of a slew of its mid-range smartphones ahead of the imminent Honor 20 launch.The Honor 10, 10 Lite, and View 20 have all got significant cuts in their prices. Earlier this year, Motorola announced the Moto G7 series and it has recently launched the Motorola Moto Z4 and One Vision smartphones. Rumors suggest that the company could be gearing up to launch the Moto E6 series. The Moto E6 Plus was recently spotted on Geekbench and today reliable tipster Evan Blass has shared the press render of the upcoming Moto E6 phone.
The Moto E6 image shows that its display is surrounded by thick bezels. The Motorola branding is placed on the chin of the device whereas a selfie snapper and an earpiece can be found on the top bezel. A volume rocker and a power key are available on the right edge of the device.
The topside of the Moto E6 features a 3.5mm audio jack. The textured back is fitted with a single camera and an LED flash. The bottom edge of the phone is not shown in the image. However, it is very likely to feature a microUSB 2.0 port and a speaker grille. The new image resembles with the leaked press render that had appeared in the previous month.
Rumors surrounding the Moto E6 have revealed that it will be sporting a 5.45-inch display with HD+ resolution of 720 x 1440 pixels and 18:9 aspect ratio. It will be powered by Snapdragon 430 chipset and 2 GB of RAM. The smartphone may come in 32 GB or 64 GB storage models. For photography, it may sport a rear camera of 13-megapixel and a frontal snapper of 5-megapixel. There is no detailed information on the specs of Moto E6 Plus. However, its Geekbench listing had revealed that it will be coming with Helio P22 chipset and 2 GB of RAM.
Huawei have just officially launched the Huawei MediaPad M6 alongside the earlier Huawei Nova 5 announcement. As we already knew, the device comes in two size options, both with minute differences between them. Now we’re going to take a closer look at these devices, their specs and their features.
First off the two size options available are a 10.8-inch model and an 8.4-inch model. Both versions of the Huawei MediaPad M6 come with 2K display resolution. Keeping these screens running are the batteries in here, which are pretty decent in size. The smaller 8.4-inch tablet will get a 6100mAh battery, while the 10.8-inch variant gets a massive 7500mAh battery instead.
Both variants of the MediaPad M6 are powered by the octa-core Huawei Kirin 980 CPU, dual NPUs, and a Mali-G76 GPU with GPU Turbo 3.0 support. Through an unveil event in China, Huawei has taken off the covers from the Huawei Nova 5 series. The Nova 5 is a flagship phone that comes with 7nm Kirin 980 chipset. The Nova 5i is a mid-range phone and a rebranded version of the P20 Lite (2019) smartphone that was unveiled in Europe recently. It comes with Kirin 710 SoC and punch-hole display. The Nova 5 borrows most of its specs from the Nova 5 Pro smartphone. What’s unique about it is the first phone ever to feature the new 7nm Kirin 810 chipset.

The Huawei Nova 5 comes with a 6.39-inch OLED display with waterdrop notch. It carries support for full HD+ resolution of 1080 x 2340 pixels. The Nova 5 Pro also features the same display. The Nova 5 and 5 Pro both blessed with optical in-screen fingerprint scanners. The other features related to the display of both smartphones include TUV certification, support for DCI-P3 and DC dimming.
The Kirin 980 flagship chipset found in the Huawei P30 series and Mate 20 series is present under the hood of the Nova 5 Pro whereas the 7nm Kirin 810 chipset powers the Nova 5 handset. The new SoC features two CPU cores of Cortex A76 clocking at 2.27 GHz and six CPU cores of Cortex A55 working at 1.8 GHz. It also includes a dedicated NPU unit.
The Huawei Nova 5 Pro has 8 GB of RAM and up to 256 GB of native storage whereas the Nova 5 comes with 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of built-in storage. They also carry support for microSD card slot. The Android 9 Pie OS overlaid the latest version of EMU 9 comes loaded on the Nova 5 and 5 Pro. For smoother gaming experience, Huawei has also included support for GPU Turbo technology on these devices.
The Huawei Nova 5 and Nova 5 Pro smartphones are both fitted with f/2.0 aperture 32-megapixel front-facing cameras. With 4-in-1 pixel combining technology onboard, the Nova 5 and 5 Pro can capture bright selfies in darker conditions. The rear side of the both smartphones have four cameras such as 48-megapixel Sony IMX586 primary sensor with, a 16-megapixel superwide lens, a 2-megapixel sensor for adding depth effects and a 2-megapixel macro lens. The Nova 5 series support super night mode, portrait mode, AI scene recognition, AI beautification features. Both the phones are ideal for shooting Vlogs, claims the company.
The EMU 9 based Android 9 Pie OS comes preloaded on both smartphones. These handsets are equipped with 3,500mAh batteries. The Nova 5 Pro and Nova 5 smartphones support 40W fast charging that can charge these devices up to 85 percent capacity in just 30 minutes. Other features of the Nova 5 and Nova 5 Pro smartphones include dual 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS, and USB-C.

As mentioned at the start of this post, the Huawei Nova 5i is a Chinese version of the P20 Lite (2019) that has released recently in Europe. Compared to P20 Lite (2019), the Nova 5i comes with modified rear camera system. The handset features a 6.4-inch LCD panel with a punch-hole at the top-left corner for the 24-megapixel selfie shooter.
The rear shell of the Nova 5i has a quad camera setup that includes a 24-megapixel primary sensor, a 16-megapixel ultrawide lens, a 2-megapixel depth sensor and a ToF sensor. The P20 Lite (2019) has a 16-megapixel front-facing camera and includes another 16-megapixel sensor as the primary lens in its quad camera setup. A fingerprint scanner is also available on the rear side of the phone.
The Kirin 710 powers the Nova 5i with 6 GB of RAM. It comes with 128 GB of native storage and a microSD card slot. The Nova 5i runs on EMUI 9 based Android 9 Pie OS. The handset is packed with a 4,000mAh battery that supports only 5V/2A (10W) charging.

As expected, China-based tech giant Huawei has today announced its latest upper mid-range mobile chipset — Kirin 810. With this, Huawei has now become the world’s first smartphone company to have two chipsets based on a 7nm process in its portfolio.
The HiSilicon Kirin 810 is an octa-core processor which comes equipped with two Cortex-A76 high-performance large cores clocked at 2.27 GHz and six Cortex-A55 energy efficient small cores clocked at 1.88 GHz. It is coupled with Mali-G52 GPU for graphics processing.
The newly announced chipset comes with the new Huawei DaVinci architecture NPU, which consumes less energy and has artificial intelligence (AI) technology running at over 32,280 points, surpassing the scores of Snapdragon 855 SoC and Snapdragon 730 SoC.
The chipset is manufactured using TSMC’s 7nm mode, the same process that was used to manufacture flagship chipsets such as Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 and Apple A12 Bionic, among others.
The company says that the image processing capability of this new smartphone processor is at par with those of the flagship grade SoCs. Huawei has included a powerful night vision algorithm for higher brightness and greater tolerance.
It comes with NPU and Huawei HiAi 2.0 which aims at improving the performance of the artificial intelligence technology and the company has added support for a Game+ mode aiming to enhance the gaming experience.
The Huawei’s HiSilicon Kirin 810 octa-core processor is the first chipset under the company’s all-new Kirin 800-series. As evident from the name, it is an upper mid-range processor, placed between the mid-range Kirin 700-series and the top-end Kirin 900-series.

Lenovo has already launched two Z-series smartphones this year. The Lenovo Z6 Pro came with Snapdragon 855 chipset onboard whereas the budget-friendly Lenovo Z6 Youth Edition features the Snapdragon 710. Now the company is prepping up to launch the Lenovo Z6 smartphone. Earlier this month, Lenovo Group VP Chang Cheng had shared teaser images of the Lenovo Z6 phone. Today, he has shared an image that reveals some of the key features of the phone.
The first thing that can be confirmed through the image is that the Lenovo L78121 model number that has been spotted on the database on China’s 3C and TENAA as well as on Geekbench belongs to the Lenovo Z6 smartphone. Without revealing the exact name of the processor, the image reveals that the phone is powered by “God U” processor. Probably, it could be hinting that the Lenovo Z6 is fueled by a powerful processor.
The Geekbench listing of the Lenovo Z6 that had appeared earlier this week did not carry the name of its chipset. However, the benchmarking scores and base frequency recorded by the processor suggested that the Lenovo Z6 could be powered by the Snapdragon 730. The only other phones that feature the SD730 chip include Xiaomi Mi 9T (aka Redmi K20 in China) and Samsung Galaxy A80.
Coming back to the image shared by Cheng, it reveals that the Lenovo Z6 features AI powered triple cameras by Sony. The Chinese text for the display information mentioned on the image translates to “color laser screen.” Since the Lenovo Z6 Pro and Z6 Youth Edition are equipped with waterdrop-like notch display, the Lenovo Z6 could be also equipped with the same kind of display design. Probably, the Lenovo Z6 may come with 6.3-inch display and 4,000mAh battery.
The exact size of the battery of the Lenovo Z6 is not known yet. However, the image states that the rechargeable battery of the phone can last for up to 2 days on a single charge. The 3C listing of the phone had revealed that it will carry support for 18W fast charging. When it comes to design, the smartphone will be flaunting an impressive design with four curved sides.
The official images that were shared earlier in this month by Cheng have confirmed that the phone will be available in at least Brown and Blue color options. The TENAA listing of the phone is yet to be populated with its specs and images.
Xiaomi India has announced the Mi Explorer program for the upcoming Redmi K20 Pro smartphone in the Indian market. The company has revealed that it has started the registration process for the Mi Explorer and is looking for 48 ‘explorers’.
From all the applicants, Xiaomi will shortlist 48 who will then complete missions and gather points, and eventually report back on the performance of the new phone to the company. The selected participants will have to sign an NDA not to leak any details about the phone, including images, screenshots, and other stuff.
All explorers will receive extra points based on the number of likes they received on social media, which will be the deciding factor in the final rankings. With such a program, Xiaomi offers an opportunity to its fans to be among the first ones to get a hands-on experience of its new phone.
It’s noteworthy that the Mi Explorers Program is only for nationals of India. The program was first started back in 2016 with the Redmi Note 3, promptly following the next year ahead of the Redmi Note 4 arrival.
