Huawei Mate X will launch by September, with Android in tow

The foldable Huawei Mate X is still coming and we know when it’ll launch: September or sooner, according to a Huawei executive. “It’s coming in September – at the latest,” said Vincent Pang, President of Huawei‘s Western European Region, while visiting New York City. “Probably earlier, but definitely September is guaranteed.”

Where will the Huawei Mate X launch? “Any country that has 5G,” Pang told us, making sure to remind us that Huawei’s foldable phone is a 5G phone. This was likely stressed because the Samsung Galaxy Fold launched with a 4G LTE version (before ultimately being recalled), with a 5G version only spoken about once and never officially priced. This probably needs no mention, but it’s also quite obvious the US will probably never get to see the device.

Huawei Mate X

Now that big question is, what will the Mate X’s operating system be? Will the Mate X actually run Android, or will we finally see HongMeng OS? According to Pang, the Mate X will definitely be running Android “Because it has already been announced,” suggesting that it may fall outside of Trump administration’s ban on US companies from dealing with Huawei.

Huawei has used the last few months to improve the P-OLED screen on the device. Peng says what Huawei is doing to prevent it from getting caught up with the same problems that Samsung had with its foldable is “… a secret. But we have done a lot of tests, especially for that.” Whether this will hold true once we actually get the device remains to be seen.

Huawei Nova 5 Pro vs Huawei P30 vs Honor 20 Pro: Specs Comparison

Huawei has a lot of affordable flagships in its portfolio and it just does not want to stop releasing this kind of devices. Today, the Nova 5 series debuted and it includes a new affordable flagship: the Nova 5 Pro. Now, there is nothing better than comparing it with other cheap high-end phones from Huawei. And the latest ones are the Honor 20 Pro and Huawei P30. Not the most affordable flagship phones from the company, but you can consider them middle way between the most powerful company’s flagships and the most affordable flagships such as the vanilla Honor 20. So these devices are perfect for people seeking the best performance without facing many compromises.

Design

If you care about the aesthetics, the Honor 20 Pro is the perfect device for you. It has a punch-hole display which minimizes the bezels without the need of a notch, and an outstanding reflective glass back. You get a similar stunning glass back even on the Huawei P30 and the Huawei Nova 5 Pro, but they have a standard display with a waterdrop notch instead of a punch-hole one. However, Huawei P30 has two important advantages: it is splash and dust resistant, and it is a more compact phone than its siblings.

Display

While Honor 20 Pro is the winner when it comes to design, Huawei Nova 5 Pro and Huawei P30 come with a better display. Given that it is HDR10-compliant, Huawei P30 is able to deliver a better color reproduction with multimedia content, but on the other hand, the Huawei Nova 5 Pro has a bigger screen. The 6.1 inches of the Huawei P30 may be not sufficient for some advanced users, that is why we highlight this. Honor 20 Pro sits in the middle in terms of display size, but it has a classic IPS panel which can not reach their quality.

Hardware/Software

Huawei P30, Huawei Nova 5 Pro and Honor 20 Pro are all powered by the Kirin 980 chipset and they offer similar speeds and smoothness. That is essentially why we chose this trio for this comparison. Their most expensive variant even comes with the same memory configuration: up to 8 GB of RAM and up to 256 GB of internal storage. And all of them have Android 9 Pie out of the box. But unlike its Huawei sibling, the Honor 20 Pro does not feature an expansion slot.

Camera

Honor 20 Pro wins the camera comparison with the most complete and amazing camera setup. It comes with a quad camera on its back that includes OIS, up to 3x optical zoom and even a dedicated macro camera, as well as an ultrawide lens. The main sensor has a 48 MP resolution and the brightest focal aperture ever seen on a Huawei phone: f/1.4. That means it can shoot amazing photos even in low light scenes. The second place belongs to the Huawei P30 with its amazing RYYB sensor which is able to capture a lot of light as well, OIS and 3x optical zoom (it lacks the dedicated macro camera).

Battery

The battery award will probably go to the Huawei Nova 5 Pro: despite it comes with exactly the same battery capacity as the Honor 20 Pro (4000 mAh), the Nova 5 Pro has an OLED display which should have a lower energy consumption. Huawei P30 has just 3650 mAh, so it loses in most of the scenarios.

Price

Huawei P30’s price starts from €550/$625, Honor 20 Pro costs €600/$680 in the 8/256 GB configuration and Huawei Nova 5 Pro starts from €390/$445 in China. At the end of the day, my favorite one is the Honor 20 Pro due to its big battery, beautiful punch-hole design, big battery, and amazing cameras.

Huawei Nova 5 Pro Unboxing pictures: Huawei still has the juice

Despite the US trade ban, Huawei continues to move on resiliently. The company today unveiled some new products but at the top of the pack is the Nova 5 series comprising the Nova 5, Nova 5 Pro and Nova 5i. The Nova 5 Pro is the star of the series which had the flagship Kirin 980 chipset onboard. Here’s a look at the unboxing pictures of the Nova 5 Pro as captured by Chinese tech blog MyDrivers. Huawei Nova 5 Pro

The front design of the Nova 5 Pro uses the waterdrop notch design on a 6.39-inch OLED screen. The display has a full HD+ resolution of 1080 x 2340 pixels. Huawei Nova series is traditionally a mid-range series but this is definitely an upper mid-range phone that can even be confused for a flagship considering the design and hardware.Huawei Nova 5 Pro

The bezels at the top are ultra-thin, thanks to the water drop design. The sides also have minimal bezels and even the chin holds an extremely reduced bezel. The display supports DC dimming, DCI-P3 and has the German TUV certification. Huawei Nova 5 Pro

The Nova 5 Pro uses an optical in-screen fingerprint scanner so a physical fingerprint button is conspicuously missing at the rear. Also, the device packs a quad rear camera setup with three of the sensors stacked at the top left with an LED flash on a single module and a fourth sensor standing along by the side of the third sensor. The camera bump isn’t too big which is a good thing.

In addition, the gradient finish on the rear panel is difficult to miss as it adds extra aesthetics to the phone design. The Nova 5 Pro has the power button and volume rockers at the top right side of the display but surprisingly, the SIM card module is moved to the top edge of the phone. Sadly, there is no 3.5mm audio jack. However, it uses a USB-C port which delivers fast charging to its 3500mAh battery. The device ships with a 40W fast charging adapter. Huawei Nova 5 Pro

As stated, the Nova 5 Pro is powered by the Kirin 980 flagship chipset found in the Huawei P30 series and Mate 20 series. It is available in 8GB+128GB and 8GB+256GB memory variants with no room for expansion. The premium device starts at 2,999 Yuan (~$436) for the 8GB+128GB version while the 8 GB RAM + 256 GB version costs 3,399 Yuan (~$494). Find more pictures of the Nova 5 Pro below.

eSUN’s 3D printinted insoles system bring revolution to the customized insole manufacturing

Although it may seem strange to some, customized insoles is a big industry since many people face orthopedical problems that require custom shoes and insoles. Right now, most custom insoles are manufactured with traditional methods using CNC machining that makes production cumbersome and expensive. There are also orthotists that make custom insoles by hand but these have a long manufacturing cycle and cannot be mass-produced. Since CNC machining produces large material waste and requires expensive equipment, large floor space, and complicated operation, custom insoles are hard to become popular and widely available.

Aiming to make customized insoles widely available, eSUN has successfully developed 3D printing materials and 3D printers for customized insole mass production, creating the first medical insole 3D printing system in China.

3d printed insoles

Though the new printing system, they greatly improved the efficiency, productivity, quality and cost of similar systems. What’s more, they’ve applied for patented technology that uses 3D foot scanning to obtain user foot data and applies high soft 3D printing material and iSUN3D FLX printer to print a pair of insoles that are completely suitable for the user’s foot type.

3d printed insoles

The filament used offers high flexibility and high resilience to greatly reduce permanent deformation of the material while at the same time it has moisture permeability and hydrolysis resistance. This way, the insoles can be washable and survive cold and warm conditions. As an environmentally friendly material, it prints smoothly with no odor and no need to heat the bottom plate when printing. The surface of the product is also easy to color. Using the special filament, allows the iSUN3D FLX printer to print fast, reducing the printing time from 30 hours to 30-60 minutes and the system is integrated and easy to operate.

3d printed insoles

Taking advantage of its own materials and by integrating global resources, eSun aims at putting the whole chain to practical use. They’ve already established a customized insole design and 3D printing processing center in Shenzhen and Hubei Xiaogan and they hope to build a scanning franchise network and a centralized design center by establishing a centralized print service center and forming a complete printing, design, and distribution center.

iSUN 3d printed insoles
iSUN 3D-printed insoles

As scanning and design of current insoles are relatively mature on the market and customized insoles are no longer only hand-made or CAM manufactured, the unique creation of eSUN 3D printing insole system completely replaces the traditional customized insole manufacturing process.

iSUN 3d printed insoles

Its advantages are clear since it saves manpower, focuses on environmental protection, eliminates noise and exhaust pollution, and improves the quality and performance of the insoles. In the near future, breakthroughs in 3D printing technology will significantly improve the production of traditional customized insoles.

Xiaomi’s CEO explains the meaning of the CC series and the idea behind the new series

Today, Xiaomi officially unveiled the CC series of smartphones that would be developed in partnership with Meitu. Recall that the Chinese tech giant acquired Meitu last year and took over the company smartphones and smart home products division. Meitu will reportedly focus on imaging technology. Xiaomi cc

In a lengthy Weibo post, Xiaomi’s CEO Lei Jun shed light on the reason why the company chose the name CC for the new series. He revealed CC means Colorful & Creative and is developed by the Chic & Cool 90 team which likely comprise staffs from Xiaomi and Meitu’s R&D.

The new series is expected to get two new smartphones under its portfolio and they will go by the monikers Xiaomi CC9 and CC9e. We had expected the phones to be announced today but that didn’t happen. However, Lei Jun also explained that the number 9 in the CC9 moniker represents the age of the company (Xiaomi is 9 years this year). He also hinted the brand will be sold globally as an independent brand when he said the phone is focused on young people around the world.Xiaomi cc9

The Chic and Cool 90 team which is responsible for the product development consists mainly of young persons born in the 90s, which makes it the youngest product team at Xiaomi. Lei Jun also revealed, surprisingly, that more than half of the team members are drawn from the arts and fine arts professions, unlike other Xiaomi product teams. This is because the series is focused more on aesthetics with the use of trendy colours.

EDITOR’S PICK: Huawei has shipped over 100 million devices in 2019

But then, the phone will not lag behind in the hardware configuration. Xiaomi’s CEO equally disclosed that the device will be a flagship for young people. It will feature the new aesthetic concept of“Xiaomi X Meitu AI Aesthetics Lab”. It will have the best imaging solution regardless of the sensor onboard. The product will combine advanced camera hardware and beauty technology in order to create a Colorful and Creative photo experience both for the front and rear cameras.

Meitu has got an impressive imaging technology and so, tapping from Xiaomi’s R&D, we hope to see an amazing camera output. We expect Xiaomi to announce the new CC9 and CC9e soon.

Oclean X touchscreen Toothbrush rakes in over ¥13.82 million in crowdfunding

It has been two weeks already, and an eventful one at that, since Xiaomi launched the Oclean X Sonic toothbrush under the Youpin platform for crowdfunding. The toothbrush was unique in that it comes with a touchscreen which displays all the relevant brushing parameters and other details you would have checked from a smartphone app.Oclean X

The Oclean X crowdfunding exercise ended today and Oclean has released the result of the exercise. Turn out the Oclean X elicited strong interest among buyers in China and even outside China. The crowdfunding saw the smart toothbrush generating the huge sum of 13.82 million yuan. This sum was raised by 55,524 backers. That is monumental for an electric toothbrush but we believe the success is hinged on the touchscreen display and other smart features it packs. The Oclean X was offered for 249 yuan (~$36) with an extra brush head during the crowdfunding but will go on sale for 299 yuan (~$43) now that the crowdfunding is over.Oclean X Smart Sonic Electric Toothbrush

In terms of appearance, Oclean X is not too different from the previous-generation Oclean products such as the Oclean Air. The biggest feature is obviously the oval-shaped coloured touchscreen display. From the display, you can view the time, weather, choose brushing mode, check dental health information, brushing feedbacks and so on, so that brushing teeth become more scientific, effective and simple. The touch experience is very user-friendly and responsive.oclean x

EDITOR’S PICK: Huawei has shipped over 100 million devices in 2019

Oclean X Smart touch screen electric toothbrush can bring more intuitive information display and interactive experience in the sense that you don’t have to go through a smartphone app to monitor the brushing pattern but it can be viewed directly on the screen. The toothbrush also comes with Bluetooth 4.0 support and is compatible with phones running Android 4.4 or iOS 8.0 and higher. Thus, it can also be paired to a smartphone in case you need to view the parameter on a larger screen. On the mobile app, you can also view more details as the blind zones are divided into 8 zones. The Oclean X has a built-in 6-axis gyroscope which can collect up to 1500 real-time brushing data every minute. It monitors the slight changes of brushing gestures, locates the brushing blind zone, and gives scientific feedback results.

Huawei MediaPad M6 officially launched, incredible sound and display

Huawei have just officially launched the Huawei MediaPad M6 alongside the earlier Huawei Nova 5 announcement. As we already knew, the device comes in two size options, both with minute differences between them. Now we’re going to take a closer look at these devices, their specs and their features.

First off the two size options available are a 10.8-inch model and an 8.4-inch model. Both versions of the Huawei MediaPad M6 come with 2K display resolution. Keeping these screens running are the batteries in here, which are pretty decent in size. The smaller 8.4-inch tablet will get a 6100mAh battery, while the 10.8-inch variant gets a massive 7500mAh battery instead.

Both variants of the MediaPad M6 are powered by the octa-core Huawei Kirin 980 CPU, dual NPUs, and a Mali-G76 GPU with GPU Turbo 3.0 support. As for RAM and storage, the devices only come in 4GB + 64GB and 4GB + 128GB configurations. As expected, the volume rocker, the power button, a USB Type-C port, MicroSD card tray and even a 3.5mm audio jack all sit on the right-hand side. As for cameras, we’ve a 13MP rear and 8MP front setup.

What’s most impressive about the Huawei MediaPad M6 devices are their audio solutions. Both devices come with four-channel speakers that ensure crisp and powerful sound. They’re tuned by Harman-Kardonn, and Huawei claims this will help produce loud and booming bass. We’re inclined to agree considering how the MediaPad devices have always had good audio.

So, what about pricing? The Huawei MediaPad M6 comes in several different price configurations taking into account their storage and connectivity options. To simplify things a lot and make it more digestible, you can check the list below for pricing.

Huawei has shipped over 100 million devices in 2019

At the moment, Huawei is holding a new product launch conference at Wuhan Optics Valley International Tennis Center. At the event, we are waiting for a few new products to be announced. Of course, the most anticipated is the Nova 5 series devices. Before that though, Huawei’s consumer product line president He Gang took to the stage to announce that the company had successfully achieved 100 million sales on the 30th of May.

This is absolutely mind blowing from a numbers standpoint. To put this into perspective, this would mean that every 1 second, Huawei sells more than 7 smartphones worldwide. This is also 49 days faster than last year, which shows Huawei is still growing at a pretty speedy rate.

We’re eager to see how much more the company can grow later in 2019. Huawei’s strong first quarter performance is clearly not affected by the ban. Whether the company can continue this momentum remains to be seen, though it’s quite likely we’ll see these numbers go lower. After all, even Huawei have been less optimistic lately, which is quite a shame.

We’re still eager to see how the company continues from this point onwards. Later today we’ll be seeing the official Huawei Nova 5 launch, as well as their new tablets. How they’ll effect Huawei’s future sales, we’ve no clue, but we hope for the best that nothing too bad happens to the company. It’s quite sad to see, but things aren’t all bad at the very least.

As expected, China-based tech giant Huawei has today announced its latest upper mid-range mobile chipset — Kirin 810. With this, Huawei has now become the world’s first smartphone company to have two chipsets based on a 7nm process in its portfolio.

The HiSilicon Kirin 810 is an octa-core processor which comes equipped with two Cortex-A76 high-performance large cores clocked at 2.27 GHz and six Cortex-A55 energy efficient small cores clocked at 1.88 GHz. It is coupled with Mali-G52 GPU for graphics processing.

Huawei Kirin 810 SoC

The newly announced chipset comes with the new Huawei DaVinci architecture NPU, which consumes less energy and has artificial intelligence (AI) technology running at over 32,280 points, surpassing the scores of Snapdragon 855 SoC and Snapdragon 730 SoC.

The chipset is manufactured using TSMC’s 7nm mode, the same process that was used to manufacture flagship chipsets such as Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 and Apple A12 Bionic, among others.

The company says that the image processing capability of this new smartphone processor is at par with those of the flagship grade SoCs. Huawei has included a powerful night vision algorithm for higher brightness and greater tolerance.

It comes with NPU and Huawei HiAi 2.0 which aims at improving the performance of the artificial intelligence technology and the company has added support for a Game+ mode aiming to enhance the gaming experience.

The Huawei’s HiSilicon Kirin 810 octa-core processor is the first chipset under the company’s all-new Kirin 800-series. As evident from the name, it is an upper mid-range processor, placed between the mid-range Kirin 700-series and the top-end Kirin 900-series.

Huawei Nova 5 is the first smartphone to come powered by this new Kirin 810 octa-core 7nm chipset. Apart from that, the upcoming Huawei 9X Pro is also said to be powered by the same processor.

Lenovo Z6 coming with powerful SoC, Sony AI triple camera and large-sized battery

Lenovo has already launched two Z-series smartphones this year. The Lenovo Z6 Pro came with Snapdragon 855 chipset onboard whereas the budget-friendly Lenovo Z6 Youth Edition features the Snapdragon 710. Now the company is prepping up to launch the Lenovo Z6 smartphone. Earlier this month, Lenovo Group VP Chang Cheng had shared teaser images of the Lenovo Z6 phone. Today, he has shared an image that reveals some of the key features of the phone.

The first thing that can be confirmed through the image is that the Lenovo L78121 model number that has been spotted on the database on China’s 3C and TENAA as well as on Geekbench belongs to the Lenovo Z6 smartphone. Without revealing the exact name of the processor, the image reveals that the phone is powered by “God U” processor. Probably, it could be hinting that the Lenovo Z6 is fueled by a powerful processor.

The Geekbench listing of the Lenovo Z6 that had appeared earlier this week did not carry the name of its chipset. However, the benchmarking scores and base frequency recorded by the processor suggested that the Lenovo Z6 could be powered by the Snapdragon 730. The only other phones that feature the SD730 chip include Xiaomi Mi 9T (aka Redmi K20 in China) and Samsung Galaxy A80.

Coming back to the image shared by Cheng, it reveals that the Lenovo Z6 features AI powered triple cameras by Sony. The Chinese text for the display information mentioned on the image translates to “color laser screen.” Since the Lenovo Z6 Pro and Z6 Youth Edition are equipped with waterdrop-like notch display, the Lenovo Z6 could be also equipped with the same kind of display design. Probably, the Lenovo Z6 may come with 6.3-inch display and 4,000mAh battery.

The exact size of the battery of the Lenovo Z6 is not known yet. However, the image states that the rechargeable battery of the phone can last for up to 2 days on a single charge. The 3C listing of the phone had revealed that it will carry support for 18W fast charging. When it comes to design, the smartphone will be flaunting an impressive design with four curved sides.

The official images that were shared earlier in this month by Cheng have confirmed that the phone will be available in at least Brown and Blue color options. The TENAA listing of the phone is yet to be populated with its specs and images.
