Samsung Mobile schedules new event for April 10, might be for the Galaxy A90

Samsung’s Galaxy S10 series has been getting all the attention since it went on sale earlier this month. There are reviews popping up on virtually all tech sites. Nevertheless, it appears Samsung has more high-end devices scheduled for the first half of the year as it has just announced there is another event next month.

The official Samsung Mobile Twitter account just revealed this morning that there will be an event on April 10, 2019. The event will also be live-streamed on Samsung.com.

The tweet itself doesn’t reveal the device that will be launching but there is a chance it is more than one phone judging from the attached video which shows three displays. One of the screens is an Infinity-V display. The other two screens do not seem to have a notch.

If we were to take a guess, we would say the launch is for new Galaxy A smartphones with one of them being the Galaxy A90. Since there is a dedicated event, it makes sense it is for a high-end Galaxy A smartphone.

The Galaxy A90 is said to have a display without a notch or punch hole like the Galaxy S10 series. So for the front-facing camera, Samsung is said to have adopted a pop-up camera that also rotates. This allows the camera to double as the rear camera too. We are pretty excited to see how Samsung pulls this off.

Today through an unveil event in China, Redmi announced the Redmi Note 7 Pro and Redmi 7 phones. When it comes to design, the Redmi 7 takes cues from the Redmi Note 7 Pro and Note 7 as it features a waterdrop-style notched display and a gradient back panel. It is the first Snapdragon 632 mobile platform phone from Redmi.

Redmi 7 Specifications and Features

The Redmi 7 has arrived with a screen that delivers HD+ resolution of 1520 x 720 pixels. It offers 19:9 aspect ratio and carries support for 84 percent NTSC colors. Since it is a TUV Rheinland display, the Redmi 7 users won’t experience eye fatigue since it effectively reduces the emission of harmful blue rays. The Corning Gorilla Glass 5 panel shields the large display of the phone.

As expected, after launching the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 Pro smartphone in India, the Chinese smartphone manufacturer has today officially launched the device in its home country. The phone is priced at 1,599 Yuan (approximately $238).

In China, the Redmi Note 7 Pro will be available in three color options — Neptune Blue, Nebula Red, and Classic Red. While the Neptune Blue and Nebula Red comes with a gradient finish, the Classic Black has a solid matte color finish.

Those who pre-ordered the smartphone before 16th March will get the phone soon if they complete the payment process by tonight. The Redmi Note 7 Pro will be available for pre-sale from 19th March and the first sale will take place on 22nd March.

The Redmi Note 7 Pro boasts a 6.3-inch Full HD+ display with 19.5:9 aspect ratio, 450 nits brightness and 15000:1 contrast ratio. The bezels surrounding the display measures just 1.95mm. It also comes with Sunlight Display mode and Reading mode.

The phone comes with a 2.5D curved glass on the front as well as back, which is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5 on both the sides, protecting it from minor scratches. Under the hood, the device is powered by the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 675 octa-core chipset which is manufactured using the 11nm FinFET process, coupled with Adreno 612 GPU.

The phone has retained the 3.5mm headphone jack and comes with a USB Type-C port — a first for the Redmi Note series smartphone. There’s also an IR blaster which comes in handy for controlling electronics products.

Along with the usual set of connectivity options, it also supports Dual SIM and Dual VoLTE. In terms of software, the phone is running the company’s own MIUI 10 based on Android 9 Pie operating system out-of-the-box.

Xiaomi has mastered the art of flash sales for selling its newly launched smartphones. The strategy helps the company build hype around the product as well as sell devices even when it has lower stocks. Earlier, it was understandable but seeing the company’s growth, it’s not acceptable that the company still relies on the flash sale model.

When the company was young, it was understandable that it could have issues with production and supply chain and the company had no choice but to go with the flash sale route because of supply vs demand problem. But now the company has means to solve that issue, then why is it still relying on the flash sale model? The company’s recently launched flagship device — Xiaomi Mi 9 is available through the flash sale and it’s very difficult for the users to purchase the device.

Well, we now know the answer. Xiaomi’s product director Wang Teng accidentally revealed in a group that the flash sale model is a strategic decision. If there is a lot of stock of a particular product, there’s no “premium” for that device in the offline market to sell and people will rely only on the online sales. While there are other reasons for the flash sale model, including production capacity and supply chain. Xiaomi Poco F2 Geekbench listing with Snapdragon 855 and Android Q spotted (UPDATE: FAKE)

UPDATE: Well, turns out this was a fake listing. Even the Poco F1 Lite Geekbench (reported a couple of days back) result turned out to be a fake. Basically, XDA planted these two Geekbench results to show how easy it was to fake Geekbench listings. In short, the gist of the matter is that we no longer can trust Geekbench listings. I’m not going to retract this article, instead, I think it would be a good way to highlight this particular point. You can read XDA’s article from here.

Xiaomi Poco F2 is one of the most anticipated smartphones of 2019. The Xiaomi Poco F1 is currently available as the most affordable Snapdragon 845 driven phone. Hence, the Xiaomi Poco F2 is also expected to release the cheapest Snapdragon 855 powered phone. Xiaomi could be now internally testing the upcoming Poco F2 since a Geekbench listing of the device has surfaced online.

A smartphone labelled as “Poco F2” has appeared on Geekbench benchmarking platform. As expected, the Snapdragon 855 is present under the hood of the device. The SoC is supported by 4 GB of RAM and it is loaded with the upcoming Android Q OS.

In the single-core test, the Xiaomi Poco F2 has scored 1776 points. In the multi-core test, the device has recorded a score of 6097 points. Recent benchmarking listings of SD855 driven phones have scored more than 3k points in the single-core tests and around 10k in the multi-core tests. Hence, the Poco F2 Geekbench scores are quite low compared to other SD855 fueled phones.

What’s a bit weird about the listing is that the Xiaomi Poco F1 is available in 6 GB and 8 GB RAM options. However, the newly spotted Poco F2 has 4 GB of RAM onboard.

The Xiaomi Poco F1 was unveiled in August last year and it had arrived with Android 8.1 Oreo OS. Without much delay, the handset was treated with Android 9 Pie OS update as well as MIUI 10 custom ROM. Probably, the Poco F2 may come loaded with Android 9 Pie OS and it will be provided with Android Q update soon after its market release.

Samsung launched its all-new Galaxy M-series of smartphones earlier this year in India. Under the lineup, the company has so far launched three devices — Galaxy M10, Galaxy M20, and Galaxy M30.

The phone also comes with a microSD card slot which enables users to further expand the storage capacity up to 512GB.

There’s a fingerprint sensor on the back and the phone also supports Face Unlock feature. For imaging, the Galaxy M20 comes with a dual rear camera setup along with a 13-megapixel primary sensor that has an f/1.9 aperture and a 5-megapixel ultra-wide secondary sensor. On the front side, it comes equipped with an 8-megapixel sensor along with an f/2.0 aperture.

About a month after Lenovo-owned Motorola launched its latest Moto G-series smartphones, the company has now started taking pre-orders of the Moto G7 Power smartphone in the United States. The phone’s pricing starts at $249.99 and is expected to start shipping from 22nd March.

As the name itself suggests, the Moto G7 Power is all about the battery power. The phone comes with a massive 5,000mAh battery which the company claims can provide power for up to three days on a single charge.

ZTE Axon S renders leaks: Horizontal slider, Triple rear cameras, Xenon flash and more

Don’t fancy the ZTE Axon 10 Pro? Then you may want to look forward to the Axon S, an upcoming flagship from the Chinese manufacturer which takes a familiar design and turns it on its sides. It also has some pretty amazing specs too. Renders of the phone have been leaked and we like what we see.

Last year, manufacturers like Honor, Xiaomi, and Lenovo released phones with a slider design. If you slide any of these phones vertically downward, you are greeted with the front-facing camera(s) and sensors that will usually reside on the top bezel but are now behind the screen.

For the ZTE Axon S which also has a sliding mechanism, instead of sliding it down, you slide it to the right to see the front-facing cameras. There is also what appears to be touch-sensitive/capacitive controls probably for zooming in and out at the bottom. There is a chance the buttons are customizable, so you should be able to use them for volume controls or to adjust brightness.

When you slide the phone open, it also reveals the triple rear cameras on the back of the device arranged vertically. Below the sensors is a Xenon flash and at the far bottom, it is written that the ZTE Axon S has 5x optical zoom, a 48MP main sensor and a secondary 19MP sensor.

The design of the Axon S is really cool as you can’t see any of the cameras when the phone is closed. The back is just a slate of black glass devoid of any markings while the front is a gorgeous AMOLED display with a thin bezel at the bottom. Under the display is the fingerprint scanner. The renders also reveal the Axon S will have support for 5G and a USB type-C port at the bottom.

Mi 9 SE to go on sale on March 19 alongside Mi 9

The Xiaomi Mi 9 SE was supposed to be available for purchase on Thursday, March 14, but it was canceled due to insufficient stock to warrant making it available for purchase.

Xiaomi‘s CEO, Lei Jun, announced yesterday that the phone will now go on sale on Tuesday, March 19. The Mi 9 SE will be available alongside the Mi 9 which already had its first sale but is still short on supply. There is no news yet of a new date for the Mi 9 Transparent Edition.

He also said in the post that he will join the production line if they are not able to meet the target of 1 million units of the Mi 9 series within the first month.

The Mi 9 SE is the cheapest of the three phones in the Mi 9 series and also the least powerful. However, it does pack some punch too. It is the first smartphone powered by a Snapdragon 712 processor which is the most powerful mid-range chipset currently.

OPPO Reno has a screen-to-body ratio of 93.1%

The OPPO Reno is the upcoming flagship from the Chinese manufacturer, OPPO. Scheduled for an April 10 release, details about the phone have been gradually released by OPPO’s own VP ahead of the launch.

The latest info from the company executive is about the phone’s screen-to-body ratio. According to Mr. Brian Shen, the Reno will have a screen-to-body ratio of 91.3%. This is still smaller than that of the Find X which has a screen-to-body ratio of 93.8%.

In the original post he was quoted, he also revealed the OPPO Reno doesn’t have a hole on both sides of the phone. Unfortunately, he still didn’t reveal the phone’s screen size.

It has been reported that the phone will come in three variants – a lite version with a Snapdragon 675 processor, a high-end version with a Snapdragon 855 processor, and a Lamborghini edition with 12GB of RAM and up to 512GB of storage and a 5000mAh battery.

Samsung may never release an Android One phone but it seems to like the Android Go platform. The manufacturer already has two Android Go phones – the Galaxy J2 Core and the Galaxy J4 Core. They may soon be joined by a third member called the Galaxy A2 Core.

Yesterday, an official render of the upcoming phone was shared on the web yesterday. Unfortunately, there are no accompanying specs but we get to see what the phone looks like ahead of its release.

The Galaxy A2 Core has huge bezels surrounding its display just like the Galaxy J2 Core. Save for the position of the sensors and front-facing camera, they could pass for the same phone. However, things are different on the back.

Samsung has put just a single camera on the rear of the Galaxy A2 Core which isn’t a surprise. It is positioned in the top left corner and it shares the same housing with the LED flash. A few millimeters below the camera setup are two slits for the speaker. This design will mean sounds will be muffled when the phone is placed with the screen facing up.

The render shows the Galaxy A2 Core has an audio jack at the bottom to the right of the charging port. The phone will come in blue and black.
