Samsung Galaxy M10 vs Honor Play 8A vs Realme C1 (2019): Specs Comparison

Samsung Galaxy M10, alongside the Galaxy M20, is the first device from the brand new Galaxy M series that includes entry-level and midrange smartphones from the Koran giant. Its specs and its price tag are a clear sign that the company is trying to gain some ground on Chinese manufacturers which are becoming a bigger menace every day. Does the Galaxy M10 look as interesting as the latest entry-level devices from Chinese manufacturers? We will let you figure it out in this specs comparison with Honor Play 8A and Realme C1 2019.

Design

Smartphones manufacturers learned to release even entry-level phones with attractive aesthetics. In this trio, the one I would pick is the Samsung Galaxy S10 because of its higher screen-to-body ratio thanks to its Infinity-V Display featuring narrow bezels and a small V-shaped notch. It has even a thinner body than its rivals. Realme C1 2019 has a bigger notch and thicker bezels, but it has the best build quality thanks to Gorilla Glass 3 by Corning protecting the display from drop and scratches. Honor Play 8A has a dewdrop notch, but its chin is thicker and it does not help it to achieve a high screen-to-body ratio.

Display

The display is one of the components for which Samsung decided to cut costs in order to offer a very affordable phone to the public. It is not even an IPS display, but it is a lower-end TFT panel. It remains sufficient thanks to its HD+ resolution, but Realme C1 2019 and Honor Play 8A are more satisfying when it comes to display quality. Realme C1 2019 has a bigger and more resistant display, but it does not differ so much in terms of viewing quality. So you can choose either the Realme C1 2019 or the Honor Play 8A if you want the best display, just let your tastes decide.

Specs & Software

These three handsets are entry-level phones but they are not the most low-end ones. Their hardware sides allow using every app with sufficient performances, as long as you do not opt for high-level gaming and multi-tasking. The best is the Honor Play 8A that comes with a midrange-class Helio P35 chipset by MediaTek. It can be compared to the Snapdragon 632 by Qualcomm and it reaches high clock frequencies up to 2.3 GHz. It even comes with up to 64 GB of internal storage that are not present on the other two devices. The second place goes to the Realme C1 as I define the Snapdragon 450 a better chipset than the Exynos 7870 by Samsung.

Camera

Samsung devices are usually superior to most of their concurrence when it comes to cameras. And it is exactly the same as the Samsung Galaxy M10. It comes with a dual setup on the back boasting a good focal aperture and great performances in most of scenarios (for an entry-level phone, obviously). Honor Play 8A comes right after with its bright aperture and a better selfie camera, even though it has just a single sensor on its rear side.

Battery

Finally, a thing in which Realme C1 2019 is undoubtedly superior: the battery life. Thanks to the huge 4230 mAh unit, it can achieve a way longer battery life than Samsung Galaxy M10 and Honor Play 8A, reaching two days of intensive usage. The second place goes to Samsung Galaxy M10 and its 3400 mAh battery, but Honor Play 8A is still more than sufficient with its 3000 mAh battery, given the efficient components.

Price

Samsung Galaxy M10 and Honor Play 8A debuted in the Asian market with a price tag of about €100/$114, while Realme C1 2019 is available to purchase in India for 7500 INR that is equivalent to about €92/$105 at the actual change. In my opinion, finally Samsung is starting to become competitive even in the low-end sector, and the new M series may help it gain some ground on Chinese manufacturers in this niche. But the Galaxy M10 does not win this comparison unless the final user is a camera addicted. I think it is basically a draw, with Samsung Galaxy M10 offering better camera performances, Honor Play 8A with a better hardware and Realme C1 2019 with a longer battery life. Which one do you prefer?

Check out these 3D renders of the upcoming Huawei 5G foldable phone

Huawei‘s Richard Yu, CEO of its Consumer Business Group had first disclosed in October 2017 that the company has got a foldable phone in the works. Richard Yu also disclosed that the company already had a working prototype of a two-screen device with only a small gap between both screens that needed to be fixed. Before then, Huawei’s rival Samsung was also rumoured to be working on a foldable phone. That rumour soon blossomed and not long after, the company confirmed it is indeed working on such a device. 2019 is looking to be the year of the foldable phones and Huawei will indeed be one of the early birds to unveil a commercial model.

Richard Yu himself had indicated last week at the launch of the Balong 5000 5G chipset that Huawei will present her 5G Foldable smartphone at MWC 2019. The foldable smartphone is expected to feature the new Balong 5000 chipset which is the company’s response to Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X50 5G modem.

Ahead of MWC 2019, tech blog LetsGoDigital has now released 3D renders of the Huawei foldable phone perhaps curried from patent sketches. We are no sure the final design will be exactly like this one. Apart from the attractive graphic design, there are not so many details we can cling on to. Looking at the renders, we cannot tell if the device will fold outwards or inwards only. Since it uses a flexible OLED panel, it is possible the device can open both ways as desired. When it is to be used as a phone, it is folded outward and when not on use, the user may have to fold it inward.

Details of the device are sketchy and so, it is unclear if there will be an M-Pen onboard as is the case with the Mate 20 X gaming smartphone.  We’ll have to wait until MWC to find out more about the Huawei foldable phone. The Chinese giant has a press conference scheduled to hold on February 24 where we believe the 5G foldable smartphone will be unveiled.

Top upcoming smartphones in February 2019

February is the month in which MWC 2019 kicks off, so it usually represents the most important period of the year for the smartphones market. Just like in the last year, this month the main companies will unveil most of the best smartphones of 2019, that will also be among the most innovative ever seen. Almost every important smartphone manufacturer (excluding Apple and a few other names) will showcase at least one new device.

That is exactly the reason why we decided to publish a post with top upcoming smartphones in February 2019, including the ones that will be announced at Mobile World Congress. Note that not every phone mentioned is officially confirmed as our selection is also based on the most recent and reliable leaks and rumors.

Upcoming high-end smartphones in February 2019

Foldable and 5G smartphones by Samsung, LG and Oppo

All the eyes are pointed on foldable phones for the upcoming Mobile World Congress. They should be the hottest innovation of this year and they will act as smartphones and tablets at the same time. Samsung, LG, and Oppo will showcase their first foldable phone at MWC 2019. The first recently revealed it through some billboards in Paris, while LG was tipped to come up with a foldable phone by trusted Korean sources. Anyways, LG’s foldable phone should not have a foldable display but it should be something similar to ZTE Axon M with two displays merging into one. Instead, Oppo’s foldable phone may come with a foldable display just like the Galaxy F by Samsung. Samsung and LG should also announce at least one 5G-enabled device.

Samsung Galaxy S10 line-up

An official teaser confirmed that the whole Samsung Galaxy S10 line-up will be officially unveiled on February 20, in an event that will be held in San Francisco, United States. The line-up will be composed of at least three models: Galaxy S10, S10 Plus, and a more affordable, flat-screened Galaxy S10 E. The Galaxy S10 and its Plus variant will come with an under-display fingerprint scanner and a curved screen. The smartphones will be equipped with a Snapdragon 855 or an Exynos 9820 chipset depending on the market. Everyone will be able to follow the launch event thanks to the live streaming on samsung.com.

Nokia 9 PureView

After a year waiting, HMD Global finally decided to unveil its next flagship: Nokia 9 PureView. It will be officially announced on February 24, the day in which MWC 2019 kicks off. Just like Samsung, HMD Global may decide to make live streaming to allow everyone watching the event. The most spectacular feature of the Nokia 9 PureView will be its Penta-camera setup on the back. The phone will be under the Android One program, it will come with a notch-less display and flagship-class features.

LG G8 and V50 ThinQ

LG usually unveils the flagships from G series at Mobile World Congress and this year it will be the same, but LG G8 ThinQ won’t be alone. It is speculated that the company will also bring the LG V50 ThinQ to the show, that is the next flagship from the V series. In case you do not know, flagship smartphones from the V series usually come in the second half of the year. Both LG G8 and V50 ThinQ will come with a new “touchless” technology that will allow users controlling their smartphones through gestures in the air, without even touching the display. For the LG G8, the company will opt for a waterdrop notch and it will boast a Snapdragon 855 chipset, just like the V50 ThinQ.

Sony Xperia XZ4 and XZ4 Compact

Sony confirmed its presence at MWC 2019 through a press invite, but it did not mention which devices will be unveiled. However, according to the latest leak, we will see Sony Xperia XZ4 and XZ4 Compact. A Sony exec recently promised a much better camera experience in an interview, and this is a further confirmation of the arrival of a flagship phone. Sony Xperia XZ4 should be the first smartphone to have a super tall display with a 21:9 aspect ratio. The XZ4 Compact will be its compact variant, it should still come with flagship-class specifications but also with a more affordable price.

Upcoming midrange smartphones in February 2019

Xiaomi Redmi X

Redmi has always been a series of Xiaomi phones focused on the quality-price ratio, with midrange and low-end specs. That is why we put the Xiaomi Redmi X in the midrange sections. But according to the latest teaser from Xiaomi sub-brand, the handset might come with high-end hardware. The mysterious Redmi X will be official on February 15 and according to the poster, it will have an in-display fingerprint reader. This is a feature that Xiaomi includes in flagships only, so this suggests that the phone may be equipped with either a Snapdragon 710/675 chipset or with a SoC from the Snapdragon 8xx series.

Nokia 6.2 and 8.1 Plus

Take this info with a pinch of salt as it comes from rumors and leaks, but Nokia 9 PureView may not be the only new HMD Global device at MWC 2019. Nokia 6.2 might join the club alongside the Nokia 8.1 Plus. The first is expected to come with a Snapdragon 632 chipset, a 6.2-inch display and an in-display front camera. Both the handsets are expected to come with a rear dual camera with Carl Zeiss optics. The devices will initially launch in China, then they will hit Europe shortly after.

Vivo V15 Pro

February 20 will not only be the day of Samsung Galaxy S10 smartphones, but there will also be another interesting device to catalyze the attention of midrange lovers. Vivo V15 Pro will be announced on February 20 and it will be the second Vivo’s phone after the NEX to sport a pop-up selfie camera. Given that there will be a motorized pop-up camera, the display should be almost fully borderless. Leaked photos of a protective case revealed the presence of a big cutout on the upper right side that should be the housing for triple rear camera setup.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 Pro

Earlier this month Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 made its debut with an impressive price and perfect midrange specifications. After that, the company launched a survey in order to know whether or not people desired a higher-end variant of the handset. The survey had a positive result and soon the Chinese giant will release the Redmi Note 7 Pro. However, the new variant will not be so different from the vanilla Redmi Note 7. The only difference should be in the hardware side: Redmi Note 7 Pro is said to come with a Snapdragon 675 instead of a 660. Plus, it will have 128 GB of internal storage and 6 GB of RAM.

Motorola Moto G7 and G7 Plus

In a press conference in Brazil, Motorola will unveil the new devices from the series which literally trained its sales in the last year: the Moto G7 and G7 Plus, with midrange-class specs. They will come with thinner bezels compared to their predecessors, as well as a waterdrop notch. They will be different in the screen size and the hardware side. The first will come with a Snapdragon 632 chipset, while the second is said to have a Snapdragon 660.

Sony Xperia XA3 and XA3 Ultra

Alongside the Xperia XZ4 series, Sony will refresh its midrange line-up with the Xperia XA3 and XA3 Ultra. The latter is definitely the most interesting as it is said to come with a huge 6.5-inch screen with an 18:9 aspect ratio, perfect for phablet lovers. The former will have an average 5.9-inch display and it will be powered by the Snapdragon 660 chipset. These smartphones may be the first from the XA line-up to have dual rear cameras. The only “affordable” Sony device with a dual camera until now is the Xperia XA2 Ultra, but it has a dual selfie camera.

Upcoming low-end smartphones in February 2019

Oppo Realme 3

After launching the Realme C1 (2019) with an upgraded hardware side, Oppo’s sub-brand is planning the launch of the Realme 3 with a totally renewed specs sheet. We do not know for sure that it will come in February, but we know that it will be launched in this quarter. Even though it will be a very affordable device, it is said to sport an excellent 48 MP camera on its back, which will not cause a huge loss of detail even while zooming and will provide a high definition in most of the scenarios. The phone is rumored to come alongside the Realme A1, another affordable device that will sit in the middle between Realme C1 and U1.

Moto G7 Play and G7 Power

Moto G7 Play and G7 Power will be unveiled alongside the vanilla Moto G7 and the G7 Plus on February 7, Brazil. The former will simply be a more affordable device with lower-end specs, while the second will distinguish from its brother not only for its great quality-price ratio but also for having a huge 5000 mAh battery.

Sony Xperia L3

Last but not least, Sony is expected to unveil its most affordable last-generation handset at MWC 2019: the Xperia L3. It recently obtained the Bluetooth SIG certification alongside the Xperia XA3 and XA3 Ultra. According to leaks, it will have a side-mounted fingerprint reader, a 5.7 panel and a dual rear camera.

Huawei P Smart with Kirin 710 SoC and 3GB RAM launched in Japan as Huawei Nova Lite 3

The Huawei Nova Lite 3 comes with a 6.21-inch waterdrop notch screen. The handset supports full HD+ resolution of 1080 x 2340 pixels and 19.5:9 aspect ratio. Under the hood, the device is powered by the company’s own Kirin 710 chipset, accompanied by 3GB of RAM. For storage, the handset comes equipped with 32GB of internal storage and comes with a microSD card slot for expanding the storage capacity.

As for the photography, the smartphone comes with vertically aligned dual camera sensors with a 13-megapixel primary sensor with f/2.2 aperture and a 2-megapixel depth sensor. On the front side, it comes with a 16-megapixel snapper for taking selfies and video calling.

The phone’s camera comes with artificial intelligence (AI) integration, which allows the smartphone to select the camera parameters based on the subjects in a scene that ensures you get the best shot. Huawei joins hand with Canada telecom company for strengthening broadband across small towns

Amid of diplomatic crisis between Canada and China due to Huawei Telecom, the Canadian telecom operator is joining hands with Huawei. ABC Communications has partnered with the Huawei to test broadband in the rural areas of western British Columbia. Currently, the Canada telecom will test the service within a small area and then will expand to more regions.

huawei-logo

It is quite surprising that on one hand, the Canadian government is taking a tough stance against Huawei. But country’s telecom player, ABC communication is making a new deal with Huawei for expanding its broadband reach across the country. Speaking on occasion, Eric Li, president of Huawei Canada has welcomed the move. He said in a statement that the company was “proud to provide a solution to this unique Canadian challenge” in the announcement.

Recently, in a US-China trade War, Canada made an entry by arresting Huawei’s CFO Meng Wanzhou from Vancouver airport at the request of American Authorities. Since then, China has been finding ways to take on Canada. Although, the home country of Huawei has arrested two Canadians and sentenced one of them to the death penalty under an apparent act of retaliation.

Huawei has received a lot of flak in the past few months as the US and its allies have excluded the company from 5G networking plans. Various countries such as Australia, New Zealand, Germany, and others have banned Huawei for participating in 5G plans. Though, Canada is now reconsidering about its stance on Huawei’s inclusion in the new era networking plans.

Whatever the thing is, this new partnership is a step ahead in providing faster speed internet in the rural areas. It will also serve the Canadian Government’s task to increase overall internet speed in rural Canada. Earlier, Canada planned to trade rural internet services for the 5G networks in Cities, but now there will be some other model to serve the purpose.

Samsung Galaxy foldable phone spotted in promo video

Samsung will be holding its Unpacked 2019 event on Feb. 20 to announce the Galaxy S10e, Galaxy S10 and Galaxy S10+ smartphones. Rumors are rife that the first foldable phone from the company will be also announced at the same event. At the Samsung Developers Conference (SDC) 2018 in December, the South Korean company had showcased the foldable Infinity Flex screen that will be available on its first foldable smartphone. At the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2019, the company had shown to select audience behind closed doors. Samsung Vietnam had posted a teaser video of the forthcoming Unpacked event on its YouTube channel. The video that has been taken off also featured Samsung’s foldable phone among other smartphones.

Here is the deleted video:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P86t1F-B5Hs

The foldable phone from Samsung features a cover display on the outside and a foldable screen on the inside. The woman can be seen opening the phone like a book for viewing the internal screen. At the SDC 2018, Samsung had revealed that the cover display measures 4.9 inches and it offers 840 x 1960 pixels resolution, 21:0 aspect ratio and 420dpi. The inner screen measures 7.3 inches and it produces 1536 x 2152 pixels resolution, 4.2:3 aspect ratio and 420dpi.

The exact name of Samsung’s foldable phone is still under the wraps. Some claim that it could be called Galaxy Fold, while others say that it may debut as Galaxy Flex. The Snapdragon 855 / Exynos 9820 chipset is expected to power the smartphone. It may come with up to 1 TB of storage. The foldable phone may com e with two rear-mounted cameras and 12-megapixel and 8-meapixel sensors on the cover. It is rumored to be packed with a pair of 2,190mAh batteries. It is likely to cost around $1,800.

Samsung is not the only coming working on a foldable phone. Huawei is rumored to showcase its foldable phone at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2019 tech trade show in the coming month. Xiaomi has an innovative foldable phone in works that features a double folding display.

Tesla patents made public to save the world, reveals Elon Musk

In an effort to make the world a cleaner place, Elon Musk has made Tesla patents public. In an effort to fight the climate change, Elon Musk has open sourced the patents for the anyone who wants to use it. While making an announcement in a blog post founder of Tesla added that they, “will not initiate patent lawsuits against anyone who, in good faith, wants to use our technology.”

tesla logo

It is an exceptional gesture in the era where companies usually defend every minor advancement in the technology within their boundary walls. Elon Musk said that along with an effort to save the world, they are also pushing for advancements in the electric vehicle technology. In the same spirit, he added, “Yesterday, there was a wall of Tesla patents in the lobby of our Palo Alto headquarters. That is no longer the case. They have been removed, in the spirit of the open source movement…”

Surprisingly, the announcement came just after the US prosecutors framed a Chinese national against charges of stealing Apple’s self-driving vehicle project. Elon Musk said he is doubtful for patents which only served giant corporations and lawyers to gain rather than inventors. He said these patents repress the progress or “stifle progress” in the field.

The recent announcement has allowed Tesla to gain notoriety among the general public. Even though, enthusiasts in the electric vehicle market and some environment savvy guys will surely appreciate the move by Tesla. While making an announcement, Musk again remembered the ethos of Tesla and said, “Tesla Motors was created to accelerate the advent of sustainable transport. If we clear a path to the creation of compelling electric vehicles, but then lay intellectual property landmines behind us to inhibit others, we are acting in a manner contrary to that goal.”

Musk pressed on the fact that they will remain very strict against corporations which will use their patents, and then sell their products in the market at higher prices.

He even addressed the crisis that our world is going through. Musk said that other big companies are not working on clean fuel cars or electric vehicles. But they alone can’t even produce these many cars to compete for the never-ending demand. Even though, he added, “it is impossible for Tesla to build electric cars fast enough to address the carbon crisis.” Overall the idea behind the open-source philosophy is to make rapid advances in technology and match the demand.

We believe that applying the open-source philosophy to our patents will strengthen rather than diminish Tesla’s position,” and ability to attract talented engineers, he said. We hope other companies should also follow the same way to invent new technologies at a much faster pace.

Xiaomi to reportedly launch Mi Sport Shoes for Rs. 2,999 ($42) in India soon

Xiaomi, which is mostly known as a smartphone brand, has launched products in multiple categories, including lifestyle. In the lifestyle category in India, the company is selling products such as backpacks, pillows, sunglasses, and tees.

Now, according to the reports, the company is soon going to launch its smart shoes in the Indian market dubbed as Xiaomi Mi Sport Shoes. The report further adds it could be priced at Rs. 2,999 which roughly converts to $42.

XIaomi Mi Sports Sneakers 2

The Mi Sport Shoes, which will be launched in India soon, is the rebranded Xiaomi Mijia Sneakers 2 which were launched in China last year, for a price of 199 Yuan, which roughly converts to $31. While the India launch date is not yet known, reports indicate that it could be launched in India as soon as this week.

As smart shoes have already been launched in China, its features are known. It is manufactured using the Uni-Moulding process which ensures five different layers and types of materials are fused into a single mould. Each of the layers is then separated using a thin polyurethane film pressed and bonded.

As the components are pressed together with the mold, the appearance of the components appears to be cleaner than the ordinary manual glue combination, and the probability of the glue opening up is also highly reduced. This new uni-Moulding process also provides better stability and support to the feet.

Xiaomi Mi Sports Sneakers 2

Additionally, the midsole is crafted using the INFUSE material by the popular company Dow Chemical (DuPont). This material can greatly increase the resiliency of the midsole and is more comfortable and less deformable than ordinary EVA.

The upper part of the shoes is manufactured using a three-dimensional seamless high-elastic knitting process. It uses just one seam thus minimizing foreign body sensation. While there’s no mention of the intelligent chip inside but since the first version had one, this model likely houses it.

Honor 5G phone releasing in second half of 2019

Various smartphone manufacturers are getting ready to launch their first 5G phones this year. While the parent company Huawei is gunning to debut its 5G phone in the first half of 2019, sub-brand Honor is looking forward to releasing its first 5G phone by the second half of this year.

During a group interview with Android Authority in Paris, Honor President George Zhao confirmed that its company would be launching the first 5G phone in the “second half of the year.” However, the name of the device was not disclosed as Zhao claimed that the model would depend on the infrastructure and progress of the operators supporting the 5G networks.

The publication claims that it was in September last year that Zhao had said that the first 5G honor phone would be launching at sometime in 2019. In the recent past, various smartphone manufacturers have announced their 5G plans. Some of them are even aiming to debut their 5G smartphones at the upcoming Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2019 event that will be held between Feb. 25 and Feb. 28 in Barcelona, Spain.

It remains to be seen where Huawei and Honor will be releasing their first 5G phones. It seems like the U.S. and Canada may not receive 5G phones from Huawei and Honor soon. For security concerns, the U.S. government is reportedly planning to ban Huawei branded telecommunications equipment. In December, Huawei’s CFO Meng Wanzhou was arrested in Canada for allegedly defrauding multiple financial institutions. Huawei telecommunication devices are already banned in Australia, New Zealand and Japan.

What’s working in the favor of Huawei is that their business is unaffected in major markets like China, India and Europe. Following Huawei, its sub-brand Honor may face no problems in launching its 5G phones in these markets.

At the February’s MWC 2019 tech expo, companies like LG, OPPO, Samsung and Xiaomi are expected to announce their first 5G smartphones.

Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus official press renders leak

Samsung is expected to take the wraps off the Galaxy S10 models during the “Galaxy Unpacked” event billed to hold in San Francisco on February 20. We expect the rumour mills to continue buzzing but it seems all there is to know about the flagships are already in the public domain. The latest leak to meet with us is the render of the device purported to be the official press render of the Galaxy S10 Plus. Samsung galaxy S10 Plus official press render

There is hardly any reason to doubt the authenticity of this photo. The renders were shared by 91mobiles which claimed to have gotten it from a”reliable source”. The quality of the picture again lends credence to its authenticity. However, it looks very much like the ones that had been hared in the past especially the high-res CAD renders from Twitter leakster, Onleaks.

The device looks very much interesting, both at the front and the rear aspects. The front design includes the punch-hole display which houses not one, but two selfie cameras. The punch-hole design fits in line with Samsung’s Infinity O display technology, which the company talked about at a press conference back in November. As a result of the design, the bezels surrounding the display on the Galaxy S10 Plus are noticeably slimmer. The device is said to feature a 6.4-inch AMOLED display just like the Galaxy Note 9 but this model may likely offer the highest screen-to-body ratio for any Samsung smartphone yet.

At the rear, the equally houses three camera sensors with an LED flashlight at the side. There is no fingerprint sensor at the rear which means the device will feature an in-display fingerprint sensor. The location of the volume rockers and power buttons at the side don’t seem to have changed. The volume rockers and Bixby button are on the left side while the power button sits at the right. The Galaxy S10Plus is expected to pack a Snapdragon 855 chipset as well as the latest Exynos 9820on some models. For memory, the device will have at least 6GB of RAM and up to 1TB of native storage.
