Asus ZenFone Max Pro M2 renders leak front and rear design

The Asus ZenFone Max Pro 2 is launching on Dec. 11 in Indonesia. A YouTube video showcasing the unannounced smartphone had surfaced recently. However, it was soon taken down. Recently, an Indian site had shared the front and rear renders of the smartphone. Even though the website has taken down the post that carried the leaked renders, various tech sites have already circulated the image. The said renders are also available on SlashLeaks.

The ZenFone Max Pro M2 renders show that it features a notched screen with tall aspect ratio. The chin of the device seems to be as thick as the notch of the smartphone.

Rumors have it that the notch of the Max Pro 2 includes a softlight LED flash, a proximity sensor and an f/2.0 aperture 13-megapixel selfie camera. It is rumored to be equipped with 6.26-inch display that supports 19:9 aspect ratio and Full HD+ resolution. Both the front and rear sides of the phone are reportedly shielded by Corning Gorillas Glass layer.

The rear shell of the Max Pro M2 appears to be made out of glass. A popular tipster had recently claimed that the phone is equipped with a triple camera setup. Moreover, a misleading teaser also hinted that it has a third camera. In the renders shown above, it is quite clear that it will be featuring a dual camera setup that sits flush on the back panel of the device.

A fingerprint scanner is placed on the back panel followed by the logo of the company. It is rumored to be backed by a 5,000mAh battery. There is no confirmation on whether it supports fast charging. The icons present on the screen of the device suggests it could be running on stock Android OS. The Snapdragon 660 SoC is expected to power the smartphone. It may arrive with up to 4 GB of RAM and up to 64 GB of inbuilt storage. There is no information available on the pricing of the smartphone.

Researchers invents a way to phase out chromatic aberrations aka halo effect from images

While using mobile device cameras, we have seen images with a halo effect. It can be seen on the images taken from any camera, and we can’t attach it to just smartphones. The halo effect is also present on SLRs, telescopes and other imaging devices. The halo effect is generated when a dark light spot is inclined toward the camera lens, and in response, it produces a ring-like effect around the light object. It happens when different wavelengths of light focus on the same point.

In other words, we can call this effect as a chromatic aberration, resulting in the purple halo effect. Well, the researchers at the Harvard have found a solution and has given a new “metacorrector” to rectify this issue.

The new processes comprise of a single layer surface of nanopillars, spaced less than a wavelength. It can be used to handle the phase, amplitude, and polarisation of the light. It is an effective way to minimize or fully eliminate the halo effect from images. It is quite cheaper and simpler method to correct chromatic aberrations.

It will help to years old correction technique to replace with new nanostructure engineering. It will help the images to be more refined and more precise without any purple halo effect. Although, it is a simple, efficient and cheaper method.

Nano Pillars

“You can imagine light as different packets being delivered at different speeds as it propagates in the nanopillars. We have designed the nanopillars so that all these packets arrive at the focal spot at the same time and with the same temporal width,” said Wei Ting Chen, a Research Associate in Applied Physics at SEAS and first author of the paper.

Now, conventional lenses limitations won’t affect the performance, and we can go beyond boundaries. We hope in the upcoming few years, and we will see it incorporated into the new imaging systems or products.  Now, the team is further refining this new tech, so that it can be used for miniature optical devices also.

Apple set to cut iPhone XR price in Japan

In a recent report from the Wall Street Journal, it is believed that the Cupertino giant is going to cut down the price of the new iPhone XR in some markets. Notably, in Japan, Apple will be giving subsidies for local carriers to make some more sales. Apple has not cited any reason behind offering these kinds of discounts. Well, this is not a new thing for Apple, they have done similar kind of promotional activities in the past for some other countries.

Apple iPhone XR

We are not clear, whether these promotional activities are just limited to Japan or will come to some other regions also. Usually, it is quite rare that Apple provides subsidies to carriers for promoting their devices, but it is good to see some more efforts from the Cupertino giant in supporting their devices.

As per recent reports from the supply chain, it is taken alongside that Apple is cutting the production of the recently launched iPhone models. Low sales in the global market are to be blamed behind the recent decision. In the past couple of years, global smartphone shipments have been declined after years of tremendous growth.

Apple is not alone affecting its sales due to global slow down, Samsung and many other significant OEMs are in the same line. Now, these companies are looking to cut down the losses by implementing precautionary measures. Some are promoting their potential devices, and some are cutting down on the production to tackle the decline in global sales. Similarly, Apple is strengthening its position by opting for promotional activities in Japan.

The Cupertino giant is now focusing on devices which are still in demand, like iPhone X. They have gain initialized the production of this one-year-old device to meet the demand in some countries. As of now, it is unclear where the handset will go sale, but it is another measure to get some sales and lower loss margin.

In the last Quarter, Apple sales have been declined, but they managed to remain in the profit due to the high demand for old devices.

Currently, details about the price cut are not live, but we expect some more information in the next coming days.
