Nevertheless, Night Mode is a welcome addition and will come in handy in a lot of situations. Hopefully, future updates will improve the results. Also, photo editing apps can be helpful if you want to edit pictures that are too bright.

Android Q will upgrade Split-screen feature to allow two apps run actively without pausing

One of the awesome features of smartphone interface provided by latest Android versions is the multi-window operations. The feature has existed in different forms over the years until the release of Android Nougat which brought a predictable and uniform implementation of multi-window support. Presently, there are three different multi-window modes: split-screen, freeform, and picture-in-picture which is available for phones in Android Oreo.

The split-screen feature lets users run two apps side by side but that isn’t entirely true. Usually, the two apps can not run in real-time as one will be paused while the other one is active. For instance, if a user tries to run a gaming app and watch a video at the same time, if the video is active, the game will be paused and vice versa. Users will need to click on the on the window they want to be active before it will start running. Presently, there is no provision in stock Android to retain both apps as active and Android Pie has no solution. However, that will soon change with the coming Android Q. thanks to Android’s recently added support for foldable smartphones.

Google is now reportedly introducing a new feature called “multi-resume” which is set to become mandatory in Android Q. The multi-resume feature will make it possible for multiple apps to be open and actually be running at the same time. Google will also start allowing manufacturers to keep all apps resumed/active when in multi-window. At present, this feature is available on Samsung latest models with the “MultiStar” module in Good Lock and in no distant time, native support will be available on all Android devices. There is even the possibility of the feature becoming available on Android Pie but since it has shipped, both the OEM and the app will have to opt-in in order to test this feature on an existing Android Pie device.  This will be a joint effort of OEMs and app developers and since it is a good feature, it might get adopted early.  Thus, OEMs will need to roll out an update to include support for multi-resume on the particular smartphone, and the app developer also needs to include a special tag in their Manifest to enable functionality for their particular app.

Android Q will, however, come with the multi-resume support as a mandatory behaviour. This is a sure indication that foldable smartphones will be the trend of 2019 as the feature is very much need for the interface to work with fluidity. Large screen smartphones and phones with split-screen support will find the feature beneficial as it would allow multitasking with ease.

Expected release date and price for Samsung Galaxy F

The highlight of Samsung‘s Developer Conference was the announcement of its foldable smartphone. While we did see the device in action and had a glimpse of the new One UI designed for it, there was no specific information on when it would be revealed.

Samsung Galaxy F

Details have surfaced from Korea about a likely release date not only for the phone which has been dubbed the Galaxy F but also the Galaxy S10 series.

According to The Korea Herald, the Galaxy F and the Galaxy S10 series will be launched in March 2019. This will be after their official unveiling at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.

The launch of the Galaxy S series isn’t unusual since that is more or less the period they get unveiled but since Samsung already said the Galaxy F would launch before the second half of the year, the March release date isn’t out of place.

Samsung also revealed to the press that it plans to make at least a million units of the phone at first and see how the reception is before making more. However, it won’t be cheap. Unconfirmed sources have said it will be priced at about $1800 which would make it one of Samsung’s most expensive phones.

Patent reveals next iPhone may have a hole in its display

At the Samsung Developer Conference last week, the phone maker announced four new display types. One of them is the Infinity O, a display with a hole in it for the camera. This design is expected to become mainstream next year judging from the patents and leaks we have seen from other manufacturers in the past few weeks. It appears Apple may also be joining the bandwagon.

The folks at LetsGoDigital have got their hands on a new Apple patent that shows an iPhone with a hole for the camera in the display. The patent which is titled “Integrated Camera Window” was filed at the United States Patent and Trademark Office in June.

iPhone hole in display patent

The attached images show the camera will be in the top right corner of the display. The display will be covered with a chemically strengthened glass according to the patent which may or may not have a hole of its own. There is even an example of strengthening the glass in a chemical bath containing potassium nitrate (KNO3) at an elevated temperature and for several hours. The result is a glass cover that can withstand higher compression stress.

The patent description is quite detailed and you can take a look at it here. There are speculations that Apple may be working towards making it a reality with the 2019 iPhones but we advise you don’t get your hopes high. Just because they filed a patent doesn’t guarantee it will become a commercial product.
