OnePlus 7 concept renders reveal in-display camera and triple rear cameras

At the end of the previous month, OnePlus had announced the OnePlus 6T smartphone. Compared to the predecessor model, the OnePlus 6T offers higher screen as it features a smaller notch screen. The new trend that is expected to soon hit the smartphone industry is in-display camera design which involves a circular cutout for the in-screen camera on the front. It is speculated that OPPPO R19 could be one of the first phones to arrive with an in-display camera technology. Since OnePlus is known for borrowing design cues from OPPO’s R-series, it is speculated that the upcoming OnePlus 7 phone may resemble the OPPO R19. Concept renders of the OnePlus 7 smartphone have surfaced today shows the new in-display camera design.

The above image shows a notch-less screen on the rumored on the OnePlus 7. It features a small hole at the top-center position under which is the in-display camera technology. It appears that the OnePlus 7 will offer a high screen-to-body ratio of around 95 percent. Like its predecessor phone, the OnePlus 7 is expected to feature an Optic AMOLED screen that carries support for FHD+ resolution. The renders reveal that the OP7 will be equipped with an in-screen fingerprint scanner technology.

The design of the back panel of the OnePlus 7 resembles withOnePlus 6T. However, there is a thid camera sensor below the dual camera setup and the OnePlus logo. This suggests that the OnePlus 7 could be the first phone from the company to arrive with triple rear cameras.

The concept renders state that the OnePlus 7 includes 4150mAh battery, 24-megapixel front-facing camera and 24-megapixel + 12-megapixel + 8-megapixel triple rear cameras with support for 4K slow motion video shooting. The smartphone is equipped with support for 5G connectivity.

Xiaomi teaser hints at a new phone launching tomorrow, might be the Mi MIX 3 Lite?

Xiaomi scored big in the just concluded 11-11 Singles Sales, recording a total of 5.75 billion Yuan in sales. Just a few hours after that announcement, the manufacturer has released a new poster for a phone launching tomorrow.

Xiaomi Youth Teaser Mi MIX 3 Lite

The poster shows a train and has some text which when translated includes the words “Youth” and “Tomorrow”. It doesn’t say much but comments on the Weibo post hint at a new phone targeted at the younger generation.

Some say it is a new variant (color/RAM + storage) of the Mi 8 Lite while others think it may be a Lite version of the Mi MIX 3, probably a Snapdragon 710-powered version that can take on the Lenovo Z5 Pro.

Patent reveals next iPhone may have a hole in its display

At the Samsung Developer Conference last week, the phone maker announced four new display types. One of them is the Infinity O, a display with a hole in it for the camera. This design is expected to become mainstream next year judging from the patents and leaks we have seen from other manufacturers in the past few weeks. It appears Apple may also be joining the bandwagon.

The folks at LetsGoDigital have got their hands on a new Apple patent that shows an iPhone with a hole for the camera in the display. The patent which is titled “Integrated Camera Window” was filed at the United States Patent and Trademark Office in June.

iPhone hole in display patent

The attached images show the camera will be in the top right corner of the display. The display will be covered with a chemically strengthened glass according to the patent which may or may not have a hole of its own. There is even an example of strengthening the glass in a chemical bath containing potassium nitrate (KNO3) at an elevated temperature and for several hours. The result is a glass cover that can withstand higher compression stress.

The patent description is quite detailed and you can take a look at it here. There are speculations that Apple may be working towards making it a reality with the 2019 iPhones but we advise you don’t get your hopes high. Just because they filed a patent doesn’t guarantee it will become a commercial product.

Sony Xperia XZ Premium, XZ1, and XZ1 Compact are now receiving Android 9 Pie update

Sony rolled out stable Android 9 Pie update for its Xperia XZ2 lineup last month and also promised to soon release the same for XZ1 family and XZ Premium. Keeping its promise, the company has now started releasing Android Pie for the XZ Premium, XZ1, and XZ1 Compact.

Android 9 Pie

The update, which carries the build number 47.2.A.0.306, comes with Sony‘s updated camera user interface, 1080p 960fps slow-motion recording, and HDR enhancement for videos. The update also includes the October security patch. The older security patch could mean that the update rollout was delayed and the company spent time on bug-fixing.

Also, it’s noteworthy that the update doesn’t include Android Pie’s new gesture-based navigation. It appears that the update rollout is region-based so you might have to wait a couple of days before the new Android Pie hits your device.

As said, Sony updated the Xperia XZ2 and XZ2 Compact last month with Android 9.0 update, along with the same October security patch. The company has also confirmed that the Xperia XA2, Xperia XA2 Ultra, and Xperia XA2 Plus will receive the update early next year, probably in March.

MIUI 10 v8.11.8 beta ROM opens doors for Google Camera app support

Xiaomi users can now install the latest Google Camera app on their Xiaomi phones. The Chinese smartphone maker is rolling out a new update to its customized Android version, MIUI. Currently, the update MIUI 10 v8.11.8 beta is limited to China-based ROM, but we expect the support to soon rollout on Global ROMs also. Xiaomi has not given any timeline for global rollout featuring the support for new APIs. Particularly, Xiaomi has added a couple of new APIs and modules such as HAL3/Camera2API in the new MIUI build which allows the use of third-party camera apps such as GCam.

MIUI 10

The MIUI 10 update has extended support for HAL3/Camera2API which is required by Google Camera app to run on any Android device. It seems due to increased demand for third-party camera apps, the Chinese smartphone maker has added support in their forked version of Android. Increasing features in the Google Camera app can be regarded as another reason behind the adoption by Xiaomi in the latest beta build of MIUI.

Google has tweaked the Google camera a lot and has made it unmatchable with lots of features. It can create a bokeh effect without the need of dual camera on your smartphone. Google has also refined post-processing of photos in the app. Google Pixel’s mind-blowing cameras also run on the Google Camera app.

MIUI 10 version 10.8.11.8 carries HAL3 which seems to be activated by default. So, now you only need to install a third party camera app, and it will be ready for use.

Until now, Xiaomi users have to use the GCam app partially with errors or either need to root their devices. Now, with the inception of the HAL3 support, you need not to root your Xiaomi device. You can directly use it by sideloading the Google camera app without following any long procedures.

Currently, there’s no information about when the Xiaomi will rollout out it in the stable build. But we hope, soon we will get a chance to use the Google Camera app on Xiaomi devices without any root access or error.

Well, how many of you are already using Google camera app on Xiaomi devices?

UPDATE: Along with India, the OnePlus 6T Thunder Purple color variant will also be launched in the United States and the UK. It seems that the new color option will eventually be available in every country where OnePlus sells its devices.

Last month, OnePlus announced its latest flagship smartphone, the OnePlus 6T. The device went on sale in India earlier this month in two color options — Midnight Black and Mirror Black. Now, the company seems all set to launch a third color variant in India — OnePlus 6T Thunder Purple.

While the company has confirmed that the new color variant will launch in India, OnePlus has not yet revealed the availability information. However, we expect the company to reveal more details in the coming days. As for the pricing, it will be pricing similar to the existing models in India.

OnePlus 6T Thunder Purple

Currently, the base model of OnePlus 6T with 6GB RAM costs Rs. 37,999 (approx. $521) while the 8GB RAM + 128GB storage model is priced at Rs. 41,999 (~$576). The top-end model with 8GB RAM and 256GB internal storage is priced at Rs. 45,999, which roughly converts to $631.

Huawei’s new patent reveals in-display earpiece technology

In a bid to provide larger screen space to the user, smartphone OEMs reduced the bezels around the display by launching notched display smartphones. The size of the notch has considerably reduced on newer phones. It seems that making holes in screens is the next trend in smartphone design. Samsung, Huawei and ASUS are some of the companies that are working on smartphones with in-display camera that features a hole in the screen for the front-facing selfie camera. Huawei has been granted patent permission for an in-display earpiece technology at the USPTO that will allow provide another way to offer higher screen space to the user.

Huawei had submitted the patent for in-display earpiece technology in September 2016 with USPTO and it was published in this month. As it can be seen in the below shown illustration image of the patent, the display of the Huawei phone features a very thin hole under which the earpiece is placed. Interestingly, an important feature that cannot be seen on the frontside of the phone is the selfie camera.

The top edge of the Huawei phone is equipped with a 3.5mm and its bottom edge features a slot for what appears to be USB-C port. The smartphone features a curved body with its power button and volume controllers placed on its right edge.

Huawei-display-hole-earpiece-patent-1-768x630

The backside of the phone has vertical dual camera setup. A larger cutout is placed below the dual camera module. Probably, it could belong to an LED flash, but since its size is quite big, it could be meant for the third camera sensor. The cutout could belong to the rear-mounted fingerprint reader.

Many manufacturers submit different kinds of patent designs with bodies like USPTO and WIPO, but approved designs may not end up as a real device. Hence, it remains to be seen whether Huawei will make use of the aforementioned design on its future phones.  As far as in-display camera technology is concerned, it is speculated that the upcoming Huawei P30 series may such a design.

Realme 1 ColorOS 5.2 Update

Realme 1, the company’s first smartphone, received an OTA update that enables the device to get ColorOS 5.2 update. The device will receive the actual ColorOS 5.2 Beta update from November 16 with fixes for developer options’ flashing, single-swipe notification dismisses, and a headset icon. The public update will start rolling out shortly after 25th November.

The new software update for Realme 2 and Realme C1 will also include the November security patch, along with hotfixes to the Android operating system and Realme’s own security fixes. While both the devices will receive ColorOS 5.2 update in due course, the company has revealed a specific timeline.

The Realme 2 Pro is slated to receive an OTA update on 20th November which will make the device ready for the upcoming ColorOS 5.2 Beta. However, a statement from the company regarding the ColorOS 5.2 update suggests that the update won’t be released immediately and that there could be a delay.

The ColorOS 5.2 features a new user interface which aims to give users a more smart and efficient experience. It also has a smart assistant that helps with a lot of things from object recognition to code scanning, app prediction, and even payment and smart driving mode.

Samsung to initially develop one million units of foldable smartphone

As like we told you, Samsung has showcased its foldable display phone at SDC 2018 conference. The Korean giant has revealed its display by obscuring the whole device in a black box at the event. It helped Samsung to keep its design and other aspects private from the outer world. In the next few months or weeks, Samsung will mass produce infinity flex device in huge numbers.

Today as per the new source in Korea, it has been revealed that initially, Samsung will produce 1 million foldable devices. Ultimately, Samsung’s mobile division boss DJ Koh has also confirmed an unauthenticated news by affirming the mass production of 1 million foldable smartphones. Overall, it means Samsung doesn’t want to pour in more and more investment; rather, they will wait for official sale results.

It will help Samsung to know the actual ground situation of the market. If the company found the market mature enough then they will increase the production. Currently, there’s no overview that would have helped Samsung to get the exact probability of the number of sales. Even big experts are mumbling over how the market will react to the foldable devices.

Samsung has not revealed any specs and pricing details as of now. This time, the company has tightened its grip over the hardware leaks as only minimal details are available as of now. It seems we have to wait for the official unveiling to get information about its hardware.

Additionally, DJ Koh pointed out that Samsung is collaborating with Google to create a customized version of the foldable device. Google has already launched Android support for foldable smartphone; surely it will help Samsung’s foldable device next year.

We are expecting the Samsung to launch foldable device by early 2019. Still, nothing is confirmed, we suggest you take everything as a grain of salt as nothing has been confirmed officially by Samsung.
