Honor V20 and mysterious Huawei VCE-AL00/TL00 phone spotted on CMIIT and 3C

A new Huawei phone with variants VCE-AL00 and VCE-TL00 have been spotted on the website of CMIIT and 3C authorities in China. The exact identity of the Huawei VCE-AL00/TL00 smartphone is not known yet. Since it carries support for 18W charging, it could be one of the upcoming high-end phones from the Chinese manufacturer.

The CMIIT listings of Huawei VCE-AL00 and VCE-TL00 does not carry any information on their specifications. Their 3C listings suggest that the device includes support for 9V/2A (18W fast charging). Last year, Honor had launched the Honor V10 as its first Kirin 970 powered smartphone by the end of November. Hence, it is being speculate that the Huawei VCE-AL00/TL00 could be the Honor V20 phone.

In the previous week, Honor had launched the Honor Magic 2 as its Kirin 980 SoC driven smartphone. The handset carries support for 40W fast charging. Since, Honor has included support faster rapid charging technology on Magic 2, it seems that the company may offer faster charging than 40W on Honor V20. Hence, there is no concrete evidence to prove the newly spotted device is Honor V20.

In October, Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) had approved the PCT-L29 phone as Honor View 20. In China, the smartphone may debut Honor V20 moniker. The PCT-AL10 and PCT-TL10 models which could be the Honor V20 has been already approved by CMIIT agency in China. The PCT-AL10/TL10 model have not appeared on 3C and TENAA yet.

Sine the end of the year 2018 drawing near, the arrival of the Honor V20 smartphone may not be far away. Soon, other Chinese authorities may carry listings for the V20 smartphone through which its specs and images may surface. Apart from Kirin 980 chipset, the handset is rumored to be equipped with the same 16-megapixel + 24-megapixel + 16-megapixel triple camera setup that is available on the Honor Magic 2 smartphone. It may also feature a waterdrop notch display like Honor 8X Max and come preinstalled with EMUI 9.0.

Huawei Finland to exchange faulty Mate 20 Pro units having green tint display bleed issue

Huawei recently launched Mate 20 Pro, but it seems, in a hurry the Chinese manufacturer forget to test the display on some Mate 20 Pro units. From past few days, users are complaining about the greenish tint issue on its display in some countries. Though as an instant remedy, Huawei UK community manager made a semi-official statement. Today, Huawei Finland issued a statement and announced to exchange the faulty Mate 20 Pro devices for free.

In an official response, Huawei Finland quoted, “We are investigating for a long time why a small part of phones have been green in some countries. In Finland, consumers get a new phone without charge if they have a faulty display.”

In another statement from Huawei UK community manager, it is believed that after proper investigation they will replace the faulty display without any additional question being asked. He requested users not to get it fixed from local repair station as it may void the warranty and may lead to a decline in the demand for replacement. So guys, if you are having an issue than just hit to the official Huawei repair stores and request for replacement.

In a statement, Huawei UK community manager responded saying, “The Mate 20 Pro uses an industry-leading flexible OLED screen featuring special design curved edges for an enhanced visual experience and holding comfort. This may lead to slight discoloration when viewed from different angles. In extremely dim lighting conditions, when the screen brightness is too low, or when using dark wallpapers, these differences can be exaggerated. If the color cast affects your normal use, take your phone to an authorized Customer Service Center for assistance.”

Ultimately, Huawei has started addressing the Huawei Mate 20 Pro problems after a major defect in its displays were found a few days ago. Also, ask Huawei Service centers to entirely replace the Huawei Mate 20 Pro unit instead of a partial repairing the display.

Another ASUS ZenFone 6 (working) prototype surfaces in photos and hands-on video

Last week, a couple of prototypes of the upcoming ASUS ZenFone 6 surfaced on the web. Those prototypes all had varying designs with one having a hole within the screen and another having its notch close to the top right corner. The similarity among all the prototypes is that none of them works as they are just dummies. New images and a hands-on video of another prototype has surfaced and this one actually works.

Zenfone 6 Prototype

Unlike the ZenFone 5Z and Zenfone 5 which have notches in the top center of the screen, this Zenfone 6 has a small notch close to the top right corner. The notch is shaped just like the one on the Essential PH-1 and houses a camera.

Since the notch is now smaller and in a new position, the speaker has a new home – between the top bezel and the metal frame of the phone –  and the slit is wider. The larger slit might mean the phone will have stereo speakers for a better audio experience.

[envira-gallery id=”220876″]

There is still a bezel at the bottom which appears to be the same thickness as that of the Zenfone 5Z. The power button is on the right and sits below the volume rocker and at the bottom of the phone is an audio jack, a USB-C port, and two speaker grilles.

This prototype has dual rear cameras and they are positioned in the middle of the device. Right below the sensors is an LED flash and an unusually shaped fingerprint scanner. ASUS seems to be gunning for a clean and simple look on the rear which explains why the cameras and the fingerprint scanner “share” the same housing.

The video shows the lockscreen and it reveals the phone also supports face unlock based on the message on the screen that says “Use fingerprint, face or swipe up to unlock¨.

These leaked press renders show the OnePlus 6T Thunder Purple color variant

Before the launch of the OnePlus 6T, there were reports the phone would come in a new purple color variant alongside the Mirror Black and Midnight Black variants. Unfortunately, OnePlus didn’t announce the color variant at the launch event. It appears the plan is to announce it at a later date. If you want to know what it looks like, then you should feast your eyes on these official press renders.

OnePlus 6T Thunder Purple

The OnePlus 6T Thunder Purple color variant is most likely covered in glass like the other variants. However, its purple gradient finish makes it stand out. The design reminds one of a dark sky briefly illuminated by lightning which gives it a purple appearance. Like the other variants, the Thunder Purple variant has black front bezels.

Other than the difference in colors, the Thunder Purple variant shares the same specs as the Midnight Black and Mirror Black variants. So you get a 6.4-inch optic AMOLED screen, a Snapdragon 845 processor, dual rear cameras (16MP + 20MP). There is also another 16MP sensor housed inside the notch.

[envira-gallery id=”220863″]

The OnePlus 6T boasts an in-display fingerprint scanner, a 3,700mAh battery and runs Android Pie out of the box.

Leaked OPPO A7 posters reveal colors & confirm battery capacity

The OPPO A7 is expected to launch on the 13th of November. While we wait for an official confirmation from OPPO, more leaks keep surfacing. The latest is a set of official posters that confirms some of the phone’s features.

The posters show the phone in full glory. The display has a water-drop notch and there are dual cameras on the rear. If there was ever a OnePlus 6T mini/lite, there is a high chance it would look like this.

[envira-gallery id=”220855″]

One of the posters reveals the phone will come in Glaring Gold and Glaze Blue color variants while the other confirms it will have a waterdrop screen and pack a 4,230mAh battery.

The specs of the OPPO A7 show that the device is a rebranded Realme 2 that is sold in India. The A7 has a 6.2-inch HD+ screen, a Snapdragon 450 processor, 3GB/4GB of RAM and 32GB/64GB of storage.

Motorola One Power running Android Pie seen on Geekbench

The Motorola One Power is an Android One phone which means it runs stock Android. When it launched, it ran Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box. However, Motorola promised that the phone will get updated to Android Pie before the end of the year.

Motorola seems keen on fulfilling its promise as a version of the phone running Android Pie has been seen on Geekbench. The phone was benchmarked on Friday, November 2.

Motorola One Power Geekbench Android Pie

Geekbench says the device is powered by a Snapdragon 660 processor which is weird as the Motorola One Power is powered by a Snapdragon 636 processor. The clock speed is low for a Snapdragon 660 phone but it is the same as that of other Snapdragon 636 powered-phones benchmarked on the site.

There is a chance the Android Pie update will arrive later this month. The update will bring new features such as a new navigation system, Android wellbeing app, app actions and slices, adaptive battery and adaptive brightness.

OnePlus explains why the OnePlus 6T lacks key features including a notification LED

Of all the phones that launched last week, the OnePlus 6T can be said to be the most popular of them all. The phone is an upgraded version of the OnePlus 6 which was released this year and it brings lots of new features but it also lacks some, the biggest of them being an audio jack.

OnePlus 6T

Apart from the lack of an audio jack, the OnePlus 6T is also missing features such as wireless charging, an IP rating, a notification LED, and an Always-on-Display. OnePlus held an AMA session where it gave reasons for the lack of some of these features.

OnePlus said the removal of the notification LED was because owners could simply lift up their device or tap the display to see if they have notifications even without unlocking the device thanks to the ambient feature called lift up display.

They also said the removal of always-on-display is due to the feature causing a battery drain. The feature was originally present on the OnePlus 6 but was later removed via a software update. OnePlus says it is still considering the “functional value vs power consumption” of this feature before implementing it in future (likely via an update).

When asked about the lack of an IP-rating, Carl Pei said the OnePlus 6T is designed for everyday use and not for “edge cases”. So it will actually survive accidental spills and drops into a puddle since these are issues that might occur every day. However, it won’t survive if you take it diving since it is not an “everyday scenario”.

Qualcomm SM6150 and SM7150 mid-range processors in development, details surface

A few weeks ago, Qualcomm announced a new chipset – the Snapdragon 675, an 11nm chipset specifically designed for gaming phones. News of two new chipsets from the manufacturer that also belong to the mid-range category has surfaced. The chipsets are said to be named SM6150 and SM7150.

According to Winfuture.de, who first reported about the two processors, information on the two chipsets have been seen on Github. Both are octa-core processors but with likely different GPU, CPU cores and or clock speeds. That isn’t all that was discovered about the two SoCs.

Qualcomm SM7150 and SM6150

SM7150

The SM7150 is obviously the more powerful of the two. It appears the Github repositories contain specs of a test device as Winfuture.de mentions a 12MP + 13MP dual rear camera configuration and a 20MP front-facing camera. The display of the said device is said to be QHD+ which means it has an 18:9 or similar aspect ratio.

Most mid-range phones and upper mid-range phones usually stick to HD+ and FHD+, so it is interesting to see that this device has a QHD+ display. There is no info about the CPU and GPU of the SM7150.

SM6150

The SM6150 test device is said to have the same dual-camera setup on the rear as the SM7150 but a 13MP front-facing camera. It also has a 2160 x 1080 display (FHD+) which is reported as being at least 5.99-inches in size.

Lenovo S5 Pro vs Meizu Note 8 vs Honor 8C: Specs Comparison

In the last period, several companies managed to release very performing devices carrying price tags lower than €200. Smartphones which would be considered cool mid-rangers 1-2 years ago are now sold at more entry-level prices, that is why this is a wonderful period to get a new phone while saving money. Lenovo S5 Pro, Meizu Note 8 and Huawei Honor 8C are among the best alternatives in this price range: go ahead with this comparison if you want to learn more.

Design

The design is the weakest point of these handsets, just like most of the devices sold for less than €200. But they are not ugly. They come with a full metal unibody design and similar looks. So, what you should choose depends on your tastes; we suggest to pay more attention to other specs instead of aesthetics.

Display

There is a very important difference between each of these displays. Meizu Note 8 is the only notchless device in this trio, while Honor 8C is the only to sport a lower resolution, so we do not recommend it if you want to see detailed images on your screen. Lenovo S5 Pro and Meizu Note 8 are more or less at the same level and they sport average Full HD+ IPS panels.

Specs & Software

When it comes to hardware specifications, Lenovo S5 Pro is the winner because of its more powerful SoC and the available memory configurations which do not offer less than 6 GB of RAM. Further, it has better connectivity thanks to a better Wi-Fi module and Bluetooth 5.0.

Camera

The cameras you can find on the Lenovo S5 Pro are the ones which convinced us the most. It has a great dual camera setup on the rear side with a bright f/1.8 aperture and the support to 2x optical zoom which allows zooming without losing detail. And it has a dual camera even on the front side, which supports the HDR technology.

Battery

With its efficient Snapdragon 632 chipset, its HD display, and its 4000 mAh battery, Huawei Honor 8C is the device providing the longest battery life. It is almost impossible to totally discharge it in just one day, even if you use it continuously. But note that it does not have a fast charging technology, so it takes some more time to fully charge it.

Price

Lenovo S5 Pro is definitely the most balanced and powerful handset, and it wins this comparison. You can get it and Meizu Note 8 for about €200/$227 in China, while Huawei Honor 8C was launched with a price tag around €170/$193. The second place goes to Huawei Honor 8C due to its longer battery life and a higher value for money in my opinion, even though Meizu Note 8 has a better display.

Motorola wireless charger gets certified, is this the end of Moto Mods?

When Motorola announced the Moto Z3 we were pretty much disappointed. The phone is practically the Moto Z2 Force with a new and larger display, improved cameras, and a bigger battery. You still get the same Snapdragon 835 processor that powered last year’s flagships, Gorilla Glass 3, and support for Moto Mods.

It appears Motorola had a reason for not releasing a “proper” flagship. There are rumors that this year’s Moto Z series will be the last to have support for Mods as the design language for the series will be changed next year.

Motorola Wireless Charger

The first proof of that change in design is a new wireless charger that has been seen on the website of the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC). At the moment, Motorola doesn’t have a phone that supports wireless charging (built-in). However, there are some Moto Style shells that add wireless charging support to the Moto Z series.

We believe the next Motorola flagship will have wireless charging built-in instead of via an aftermarket add-on, hence the reason for making a wireless charger.

The wireless charger was certified yesterday and has model number CHR-0661. It is shaped like a disc like most wireless chargers and comes in black. On top, where your phone will lie, is the Motorola batwing logo and on the side is a LED indicator.
