OnePlus 6 OxygenOS Open Beta 2 update based on the Android 9.0 Pie is now available via OTA and direct download. It brings various new improvements and stability fixes along with the camera optimisations. Amid the rumors of OnePlus 6T, the Chinese company is working on the software updates for the old devices. The OxygenOS Open Beta first was released on September 3rd, and within the week, they have made Open Beta 2 available for the OnePlus 6.

The new version of the OnePlus 6 OxygenOS Open Beta 2 has added improvements like better WiFi stability and less background power consumption with increased battery standby time. Further, camera app has been improved with optimised images captured from the front camera. OnePlus has done some design changes, they have added new UI for verification codes like OTP and added volume settings shortcut under the volume panel.

Apart from these changes, some bug fixes are also added that were mentioned by users in the community forums. OnePlus has fixed the touch latency issues while scrolling in the latest build. Still, third-party apps issue remains as OnePlus hasn’t submitted the beta ROM’s build fingerprint for certification with Google.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 9 that was unveiled in the previous month has been selling in colors like Midnight Black, Lavender Purple, Metallic Copper and Ocean Blue. New leak reveals that the Galaxy Note 9 would be also available in a new silver color. A leaked photo of the said variant has also surfaced to confirm on its existence.

The Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus from 2017 were made available in Arctic Silver color. Hence, it appears that Samsung may advertise the silver edition of the Galaxy Note 9 as Arctic Silver. It is speculated that the first market to receive the Arctic Silver variant could be the U.S.

Since Samsung is selling the different color variants of the Galaxy Note 9 with match S Pen. Hence, the Arctic Silver Note 9 will be available with silver colored S Pen which can be also seen in the image below. As promised, Huawei has today announced a new mid-range smartphone in the Chinese market — Huawei Maimang 7. This is the same smartphone that was recently launched in the UK as the Huawei Mate 20 Lite.

The phone boasts a 6.3-inch Full HD+ (2340 x 1080 pixels) display with 19.5:9 aspect ratio, 2.5D curved glass, and a pixel density of 409ppi. Huawei has opted to offer a notched display, resulting in a higher screen-to-body ratio of 81 percent, compared to the 76.5 percent in its predecessor.

Under the hood, the device is powered by the company’s own Kirin 710 octa-core processor, coupled with Mali-G51 MP4 GPU. This is Huawei’s first 12nm chipset which should offer a significant improvement in power consumption and performance compared to the 16nm Kirin 659.

The chipset consists of four Cortex-A73 cores clocked at 2.2GHz and four Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 1.7GHz. The GPU is an ARM Mali G5 which is said to be 1.3 times better than that of the Kirin 659 and 1x more energy efficient.

The Huawei Maimang 7 packs 6GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage and also supports microSD card slot for storage expansion up to 256GB. The phone is running Android Oreo operating system out-of-the-box with the EMUI 8.2 custom interface.

It flaunts a dual-camera setup on the back side, featuring a 20-megapixel primary sensor with f/1.8 aperture and a 2-megapixel secondary sensor for depth sensing. There’s also a dual-camera setup on the front side, consisting of a 24-megapixel primary sensor and a 2-megapixel secondary sensor.

The camera on the phone comes with AI-powered features such as scene recognition, smart photo composition guide, among others. The front-facing camera also supports the Face Unlock feature.

Connectivity options on the device include Dual 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 ac (2.4GHz / 5GHz), Bluetooth 4.2 LE, GPS + GLONASS, and USB Type-C. The device also comes with the GPU Turbo technology that enhances the phone’s performance. The phone is fuelled by a 3,750mAh battery and support fast charging technology.

Xiaomi Mi 8 Youth is all set for launch on September 19 at an event in Chengdu. Xiaomi is bringing some new colors for the device, a gradient color version has leaked on Weibo. Already, the device has been spotted in pure white color at TENNA. It means there would be a gradient color variant along with the usual solid colors. The gradient back consists of bright yellow and pink colors as seen in the image below. It seems to be the same gradient version which was seen in the hands of Kris Wu.

Meizu CEO Jack Wong has claimed many times in the recent past that the company will be launching the Meizu 16X smartphone in September, but the exact launch date has remained under the wraps. The handset is expected to arrive as a lite version (or youth edition) of Meizu 16th series that was unveiled in the previous month. Through its Weibo account, Meizu has confirmed that it will be launching the Meizu 16X smartphone on Sept. 19. On the very same date, Xiaomi too will be announcing the Xiaomi Mi 8 Youth Edition through a launch event in Chengdu.

The Meizu 16X was recently spotted on TENAA with its full specifications. The handset is expected to feature a notch-less Super AMOLED screen of 6 inches and it is confirmed to arrive with an in-screen fingerprint scanner. The Snapdragon 710 chipset will be powering the smartphone. The highest configuration model of the Meizu 16X may feature 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage.

Huawei Mate 20 Porsche Design codenamed as Everest could be in works

Earlier this year, Huawei had introduced the Mate RS Porsche Design smartphone alongside the Huawei P20 and P20 Pro flagship smartphone. It had arrived with some advanced features such as in-display fingerprint scanner and 512 GB of native storage. Industry expert Roland Quandt has claimed that the Huawei has been working on a device that is codenamed as Everest. It is speculated that it could be the upcoming Mate 20 Porsche Design smartphone.

According to Quandt, Huawei employees are internally using a device that has a codename of Everest. It has a model number of EVR-xxxx. The handset could either be the Porsche Design Mate 20 or a bigger version of Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro that are respectively codenamed as Hima and Laya. As of this writing, there is no information available on the alleged Mate 20 Porsche Design.

Since the Mate 20 Porsche Design is expected to carry advanced flagship specs, it may feature the Kirin 980 SoC. The chipset could be supported by 6 GB or 8 GB of RAM. Like the Mate RS Porsche Design, the special edition Mate 20 may also come equipped with a native storage of 512 GB. Also, it may sport triple camera setup like the Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro. Google Pixelbook 2 appears in multiple leaks to confirm its imminent launch

Google recently intimated that it would be hosting an event on October 9. The U.S tech giant is expected to unveil a slew of products on that day, one of which is the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3XL. The company is also expected to launch its second-generation Pixelbook which has been in the rumour mills since June. The device is expected to be called Pixelbook 2.

Several internet ads and a new video which leaked online recently all seem to confirm the existence of the Pixelbook 2. The short 8-seconds video was reportedly scooped from the Chromium Bug Tracker by Brandon Lall. The clip shows a device with smaller bezels, round keys, and the hamburger icon key on the top right, which is indicative that they are Pixelbook keyboards.

In addition, the video also shows the Chrome OS which the device will run on, having a rounded “shelf,” or taskbar, bringing it closer in line with Android. The rearranged taskbar is in line with Google’s drive to unify the feature on Chrome OS with the consistent Android aesthetic. There’s are strong indications that this keyboard could be detachable based on its similarity to the detachable Surface Go keyboards. The fact that the link to the bug report has since been blocked, adds further credibility to the leak.

Apart from the video clip, another clue which points to the existence of a Pixelbook 2 is a advert for the chromebook spotted by a netizen. The bezels on the device whose picture was used on the ad looks thinner than those of the first-gen Pixelbook. Another Google ads on Facebook contain what is possibly the new Pixelbook with the major highlight being the ultra-thin size and small bezels.

Nokia 7 Plus gets Android Pie Beta update instead of stable release

Last month, when HMD Global rolled out its last Android Pie developer preview, the company’s CPO Juho Savikas proclaimed on Twitter that it would be the last one before the final stable version starts rolling out for Nokia 7 Plus.

The stable version of the Android Pie for the Nokia 7 Plus will be rolled out this month. But before releasing the stable version, the Finnish company has rolled out another Android Pie Developer Preview Beta update.

The new update, called Beta 4.1 (otherwise known as v3.190), comes with the September security patch along with a few other improvements. A non-removable At a Glance widget has been added to the homescreen similar to what we’ve seen on Pixel phones. Along with this, the aptX codec has also been enabled.

It also introduces Adaptive Battery feature which could improve the phone’s battery life. It intelligently kills off apps that you don’t use as much. Adaptive and optimized brightness is another 9.0 Pie feature that you can make use of as well as Predictive Application Actions.

For now, the users of Nokia 7 Plus will have to wait a little bit longer to receive the stable Android 9.0 Pie update to their devices. If there are no bugs and issue, we expect that the company could roll out the stable update by the end of this month, as promised.

The Android 9.0 Pie, which was available in beta phase since March this year, comes with a number of improvements, including new personalization features, battery-saving optimizations, and tools that help tracking time users spend on the phone.

It also addresses the latest trends in smartphone designs with revamped navigational controls. It introduces a new gesture-based navigation system. There are also a number of other gesture-based shortcuts. It is also said to be the most personalized version of Android yet.

Design

If aesthetics are your main concern, then you definitely should not go for the Xiaomi Pocophone F1 as it offers a cheap polycarbonate design. Vivo V11 Pro is definitely the most beautiful handset with its very high screen-to-body ratio and a glass back cover available in gradient colors. It even offers an in-display fingerprint reader and a waterdrop notch. Moto G6 Plus is less beautiful in my opinion, but it is splash resistant and it has a very solid build quality.

Display

All of these devices come with a very wide display and a Full HD+ resolution, but the one offering a more pleasing viewing quality is the Vivo V11 Pro thanks to its Super AMOLED technology. It has vivid colors and very deep blacks, and even though it has a notch, it is a minimal one, so it is not invasive. At the second place, there is Moto G6 Plus with its 18:9 display, while I did not like Poco F1’s display so much.

Hardware & Software

Hardware is the strongest point of the Xiaomi Pocophone F1, which is the most affordable smartphone to feature a Snapdragon 845 processor. And it is also the only smartphone in its price range to deliver flagship-level performance. It comes with up to 8 GB of RAM, up to 256 GB of internal storage, and it is perfect for gaming and the most demanding activities. Xiaomi Pocophone F1 also has an optimized version of MIUI for gamers and advanced users with smooth performance.

Camera

The camera department is a close battle between Motorola Moto G6 Plus and Vivo V11 Pro as the Xiaomi Poco F1 does not offer impressive camera performance. We choose Moto G6 Plus due to its great shots in low-light conditions and a very strong autofocus, but on the other hand, Vivo V11 Pro is a better camera phone for selfies thanks to its 25 MP snapper.

Xiaomi Pocophone F1 is equipped with a 4000 mAh battery and it is a battery life champion.
