Xiaomi MiTalk 2015
Xiaomi MiTalk 2015

Xiaomi has updated its messaging app, MiTalk also known as Mi Liao. The update is known as MiTalk 2015. The very first mobile messaging app from Xiaomi, MiTalk was launched four years back in November 2010. This MiTalk was launched way before than WeChat by Tencent. These messaging apps from China based companies like WeChat by Tencent, MiTalk by Xiaomi, Kouxin by Qihoo have proved a real threat to the well-established messaging apps like Kik and Talkbox.

WeChat was the most dominating app in China’s smartphone market before the launch of MiChat. Lei Jun, CEO and co-founder of Xiaomi in an event, mentioned that if Tencent would release its messenger WeChat 6 months later than the MiTalk then definitely the Xiaomi’s MiTalk would be a hit. But Tencent released WeChat within two months of the launch of MiTalk.

Xiaomi never felt under confident and always tried hard to be the best in the field of instant messaging. MiTalk managed to survive in the presence of WeChat. Xiaomi has claimed that MiTalk has got 70 million users out of which 7.5 million are active every day. Last month company has confirmed this news of 70 million users all over the world.

The company has now decided to revamp the MiTalk. The new updated version MiTalk 2015 will have some new features for instant mobile messaging and a supercool feature of integrated music streaming services. The app will also have Xiaobing, Baidu Maps, etc.

This new app will also have some social networking angle in it. So, on the whole, Xiaomi MiTalk will be presented to users with complete makeover.

The regular only costs 2498 RMB, so adding a sapphire screen has result in making it about 500 RMB more expensive. This is much better than the Huawei P7 sapphire-screen version (4688 RMB/763.67 USD) which is almost twice as expensive as the original.

The Vivo X5 sapphire version goes on sale on October 15.

Red Mi update: Are these the specs of the new Red Mi phone?

It was reported earlier that Red Mi and Xiaomi are planning to release a new flagship phone this Christmas. Today, a nosy netizen posted what are purportedly the specifications of the new 1499 RMB Red Mi phone.

According to the netizen, the new Red Mi phone seems to have better specifications than the Meizu MX4. It uses the MT6595 chipset, has 3G RAM, and sports a 5.5-inch FHD display screen and 20.7mp camera. It is also said to be powered by a 3500mAh battery. The prices for the 16G, 32G, and 64G are supposed to be 999 RMB (162.70 USD), 1299 RMB (211.56 USD), and 1499 RMB (244.14 USD) respectively. The prices do not seem to fit this phone’s specs so there is some doubt on whether this is true. The netizen even admitted that he was pulling numbers out. Even though this information seems almost impossible to be true, it looks like the Red Mi is trying to steal the MX4’s thunder, so it should not be surprising if its specs are very high.

Elephone G5, the $130 OPO Clone ships from September 25

Elephone has a number of smartphones in its pipeline in the second half of 2014 and the Elephone G5 is the one of the first to start shipping in the market.

Given that the device is going to be available by the end of this month, we decided to take a look at this handset.

DESIGN

IMG_5160

You won’t take much time to realize that the device is an exact clone of the OnePlus One. That’s not really a bad thing because the devices looks great. People really loved the design and the texture of the OnePlus One, so naturally you’ll love this device too. It comes with the rear camera and flash enclosed in a rectangular box and the logo below it. This is exactly like the OPO, with the difference being the Elephone logo instead of the +1.

IMG_5223

In short, we really liked the design and the overall built of the phone.

DISPLAY

IMG_49243

Like the OPO, Elephone G5 too comes with a 5.5 inch display but the resolution is only HD. But even with the 1280 x 720p display, you get a pixel density count of 267PPI which is not that bad. So, images and videos should looks good on the IPS panel.

HARDWARE

mediatek

Elephone G5 comes with a Mediatek MT6582 1.3Ghz Quad Core processor which is pretty much what you see in most mid range Chinese smartphones these days. There’s 1GB RAM, Mali 400 GPU and 8GB ROM with expandable memory up to 64GB via MicroSD card.

CAMERA

IMG_4700

On the back, you get a 13MP camera with LED flash and features such as Auto Focus, Panorama, Face Beauty, Smile Shot, Best Shot, HDR and EV Bracket Shot.

On the front, there’s a 5MP sensor which should be enough for your day to day selfies.

CONNECTIVITY AND BATTERY

IMG_4940

Elelphone E5 comes with connectivity features such as Bluetooth 4.0, FM Radio, Wi-Fi, GPS, A-GPS and sensors like gravity, distance, gesture, holzer and light. The included battery is of 3020 mAh which should be enough for your daily usage.

SOFTWARE

IMG_5161

The device runs on Android 4.4.2 Kitkat OS and you also get the option of having MIUI on it. There are a lot of special software features on G5 like double tap to wake, open apps directly even when the screen is off etc.  You can customize the letters and the apps for the gesture but standard gesture controls include drawing an O on the screen to open up the camera, V for torch and W for message.

IMG_5164

In short, the device comes a lot of features with which you can play around. Elephone G5 just costs $129.99 which means its a great buy for anyone who’s looking for a mid range smartphone.

G5 comes in Black, White and Pink colors and will start shipping from September 25th. The White version of the device is currently available in stock at Giztop, so head over to the website to buy one for yourself.

Check out the full gallery of the device below.

Elephone P4000 takes its design cues from Xiaomi Mi4

ELEPHONE P4000

Things are really getting heated in the affordable flagship market as more and more Chinese companies are releasing high end gadgets at a very affordable price.

First it was Xiaomi Mi4, then came Meizu MX4 and now comes Elephone P4000. While this company may not be as famous as the other two, it sure is trying hard to get a portion of the market share as soon as possible. The Hong Kong based company already released three new cheap devices a few days back and now, its all set to launch its flagship device for the year, the Elephone P4000.

More often than not, Elephone takes design cues for its phones from successful flagships, and this time around, the P4000 takes inspiration from Xiaomi’s recently unveiled Mi4.

ELEPHONE P4000背面

As you can see in the pictures, it looks a lot like Mi4, which is not really a bad thing given that we liked and praised Xiaomi’s design. The P4000 replicates the metal chassis on Xiaomi’s flagship and the overall design is as refined as well built as the Mi4.

The device will be powered by a Mediatek MT6592 Octa Core processor clocked at 1.7GHz. There’s a 5inch 720p display up front with 2GB RAM and 16GB internal memory. We still don’t know whether there’s a MicroSD card slot on the device, but we sure hope so.

On the back, there’s a 13MP camera while on the front there’s an 8MP shooter. You get 3,150 mAh battery onboard, which is frankly quite large and enough for an entire day’s usage.

Overall Elephone P4000 looks like a great flagship and if the company manages to price it competitively, then we may have a winner here.

Stay tuned to the website for more updates.

Doogee DG900 Turbo 2 can be pre-ordered at $222

DOOGEE TURBO2 DG900

Doogee managed to keep its Turbo2 DG900 smartphone under wraps for quite some time. But the device will finally be available to pre-order starting this Monday.

Doogee DG900 is an interesting device. The design is quite different than other Doogee smartphones and the specs have improved to a great extent than its predecessors.

1411092354406-P-2032803

DG900 sports a sharp rectangular body with curved sides which sets it apart from other flagships in the market. It seems like the company has finally put some thought into the design as the rear shell will feature a soft texture much like the baby skin texture found on the OnePlus One. There are also some interesting lines alongside the camera which stands apart from the rest of the body.

1411092353078-P-2032803

On the front, there’s a 5 inch Full HD IPS display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080. This means the display will be extremely sharp at 440 PPI and images and videos will look bright and clear. Inside, you get a 1.7 GHz Octa Core MTK6592 processor along with 2GB RAM (yes, we finally have a 2GB RAM phone from Doogee). There’s 16GB storage memory on board which can be further expanded up to 64GB via a MicroSD card.

The device supports dual sim, Wi-Fi, 3G (unfortunately no LTE) and even Mediatek’s HotKnot feature which has applications similar to NFC. You also get some special software features like Gesture recognition, tap to wake up etc.

On the back, there’s a 13MP camera along with LED flash. Coming to the front, you get an 8MP 88 degrees wide angle camera perfect for group selfies.

While the DG900 comes with a 2,500 mAh battery, we feel its a bit small as compared to other flagships like Meizu MX4 or Xiaomi Mi4. Even the upcoming Elephone P4000 comes with a 3150 battery pack which means you may not get as much talk time as these smartphones.

Doogee usually prices its phones competitively, and this device too is no exception. The device starts selling from GearBest starting this Monday for an amazing price of $222.13. This is much cheaper than other competitors in the market, hence make sure you check out the new DG900 before buying a flagship phone for yourself.

Many Chinese companies race to release first cellphone to use just-released Snapdragon 810

Today, Qualcomm formally launched the Snapdragon 810 processor which will be shipped to manufacturers early next year. Phones that will use the chipset should appear around the same time.

Industry insider Bo Jiutang revealed that many Chinese cellphone companies are competing to release the first phone to use the Snapdragon 810. Many big time flagship phones are expected to use it such as the OPPO Find 9, Vivo Xplay 5, Mi 5, etc. The LeTV phone and Smartisan T2 may also use this.

Comparison: The Meizu MX4 vs. The IUNI U3

How does the recently-released Meizu MX4 fare against the IUNI U3? Here is a comparison of both phones.

Both phones have detachable rear covers. In the case of the MX4, the switch to take off the rear cover is located at the bottom right side, while the IUNI U3’s is at the Micro USB port which, in addition to opening the rear case, does not affect the phone’s appearance. It basically kills two birds with one stone.

As for a screen comparison, the U3 sports a 5.5-inch Sharp second generation 2K LTPS screen with a 2560 x 1440 resolution (which is covered by a 2.5D curved glass proctector) and 538ppi. The MX4, on the other hand, also sports a 5.5-inch screen but it has a 1920 x 1152 resolution with 418ppi.

The MX4’s operating system is Meizu’s own Flyme OS, specifically, the Android 4.4.2-based Flyme 4.0 beta version. IUNI’s OS is the Android 4.4.4-based IUNI OS. Both have flattened, clean, and simple interfaces. Although both were launch at different times, they appear to be around the same level.

So, readers, which do you prefer?

PIPO H3 to use MTK6592 4G chipset, becomes the first 4G tablet to use MTK processor

It has been that the PIPO H3 will be the first 4G tablet to use a processor from MTK. This tablet uses the 1.7Ghz MTK6592 octa-core chipset. Since it supports 4G internet, then, this tablet must use a combination of the MT6592 and MT6290 processors.

Some of the H3’s specifications were also revealed as well. It sports a 10.1-inch screen with 1920 x 1200 resolution. Its main camera is also pretty powerful as PIPO plans to put a 13mp camera on the back.

This rendering of the H3 shows that it has a similar design to the T9. The back still follows a three-level design, but the H3 does not have round ends. There is also a detachable panel on the left side of the main camera. From the tabs on the pan, it looks like the H3 may support dual-SIM cards and memory cards.
