Xiaomi’s latest smart fridge is ultra-thin, dual-cooled, and freezes at -30°C

Xiaomi is expanding its home appliance lineup with the launch of the Mijia Refrigerator Pro Dual-System 508L in China. Available in “Ice Feather White,” the sleek and minimalist fridge is priced at 4,499 yuan (roughly $620) on Xiaomi’s official store. However, thanks to the government subsidy, buyers can grab it for a reduced 3,599.2 yuan (about $496), making it a compelling option in the premium home appliance segment.

Mijia Refrigerator Pro 508L

Mijia Refrigerator Pro 508L Specifications

The refrigerator features an ultra-thin, 60cm embedded design that blends seamlessly with kitchen cabinetry. Unlike bulkier models, Xiaomi’s latest fridge aligns flush with surrounding cabinets for a clean, modern aesthetic. Its textured steel panel is not just about looks, it’s designed to resist oil stains, scratches, and dirt while supporting fridge magnets, adding a layer of customization to its sleek exterior.

Inside, the Mijia Refrigerator Pro 508L is built for both capacity and efficiency. With a total storage volume of 508 liters, the unit is divided into a scientifically optimized 16-compartment French-style layout. Dedicated sections cater to various food types, from dairy and beverages to fresh produce and frozen goods. Xiaomi claims the refrigerator’s high-humidity cold storage can keep fruits and vegetables fresh for up to a week, while the freezer offers wide dual-layer drawers for larger items like cuts of meat and seafood.

Xiaomi is pushing high-tech features to the forefront with a dual cooling system designed to keep the fridge and freezer independent. The system uses separate evaporators and fans to prevent odor mixing, maintain optimal humidity levels, and enhance food preservation. It also boasts -30°C instant freezing to lock in freshness without cellular damage, making it ideal for long-term food storage.

Hygiene and food safety are key selling points, with Xiaomi integrating an ion-based purification system. The fridge actively eliminates bacteria, odors, and viruses with a five-layer purification process that neutralizes ethylene, pesticides, and other contaminants. Additionally, a silver-ion antibacterial module in the freezer enhances sterilization, achieving a 99.99% bacteria removal rate.

Performance-wise, the refrigerator runs on a dual-inverter compressor and fan system, ensuring precise temperature control while minimizing energy consumption. Xiaomi claims the unit operates at just 35dB, making it quieter than many competing models. It also boasts an energy efficiency rating of 0.93 kWh per day, which should help keep electricity costs in check.

For smart home enthusiasts, the Mijia Refrigerator Pro integrates with Xiaomi’s HyperOS Connect, allowing users to monitor and adjust settings via the Mi Home app. The smart connectivity enables remote temperature control, mode selection, and OTA updates for ongoing improvements. Xiaomi also offers a 10-year warranty on the compressor, reinforcing its commitment to long-term reliability.

In related news, Xiaomi recently introduced the Fascia Gun 3 Mini, a compact yet powerful massage device that weighs less than a soda can. The company also launched the Mijia Corded Vacuum Cleaner, featuring 600W power and 16kPa suction, priced at just $26.

Audio-Technica Launches Open-ear Upgraded Cartilage Conduction Headphones with New Features

Audio-Technica has launched its second-generation cartilage conduction headphones, the ATH-CC500BT2, improving on the design of its 2022 model. These headphones offer an open-ear experience, letting users listen to music or take calls while staying aware of their surroundings. This feature is especially useful for commuters, remote workers, and outdoor enthusiasts.

 Audio-Technica-ATH-CC500BT2

The ATH-CC500BT2 uses cartilage conduction technology, which sends sound through vibrations on the ear’s cartilage instead of blocking the ear canal. This design helps users stay aware of their environment, reduces ear fatigue, and improves hygiene compared to traditional in-ear options. The latest model is lighter and more flexible, featuring a titanium neckband and silicone ear hooks for comfort throughout the day.

Audio-Technica has added practical upgrades for everyday use. The Audio-Technica Connect app now includes new modes: Clear Voice for better call clarity, BGM for background music, and Limit Sound Leakage for use in public places. A new Soundscape feature provides nature sounds like rain or forests to help with focus and relaxation, addressing the rising demand for mental wellness tools.

Other features include a 20-hour battery life, water resistance (IPX4), and multipoint Bluetooth connectivity for switching between devices easily.

Audio-Technica has priced the headphones at £119 in the UK and €139 in Europe, with no details on a North American release yet.

In other news, Bose has also recently debuted the Ultra Open Earbuds. They have a cuff-shaped design for comfort and situational awareness and use the same drivers as the QuietComfort Ultra Earbuds. Bose Immersive Audio is supported, though it reduces battery life from 7.5 to 4.5 hours.

5 Reasons Why PlayStation 5 Makes More Sense than Xbox Series X

As the next generation console war continues, gamers are faced with a choice between two gaming console systems, namely the PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series X. While both offer capable performance, there are several factors why Sony’s PS5 has taken the lead. From exclusive games and innovative features to a more immersive controller, here’s 5 reasons why the PlayStation 5 makes more sense than Microsoft’s Xbox Series X.

Sony-PS5
Sony PS5

1. Exclusive Games & Beloved Franchises

One of the biggest advantages of owning a PS5 is its impressive lineup of exclusive games. Under Sony’s gaming belt, there are beloved first party studios like Naughty Dog, Insomniac Games, and Santa Monica Studio. These are responsible for some of the most popular video game titles like The Last of Us Part II, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, and many more. To be fair, some of these games are arriving on the PC platform now but these are dropping on a different platform after years. There are still big titles like Demon’s Souls remaster that are still exclusive to the PS5.

2. Immersive DualSense Controller

The PS5’s DualSense controller sets a new standard for gaming immersion. Featuring adaptive triggers and advanced haptic feedback, the DualSense transforms gameplay by providing tactile vibrations that reflect your in-game actions. this innovative technology delivers a more immersive experience that goes far beyond what traditional controllers offer. This level of sensory feedback helps to create a deeper connection between the player and the game, giving it a more engaging experience compared to Xbox’s Wireless Controller.

3. User Experience

The Sony PlayStation 5’s user interface is designed for simplicity and ease of use, offering quick access to games, media, and system settings. The PS5’s overall user experience is refined and intuitive, so players can dive straight into their favorite titles without unnecessary delays (thanks to the SSDs as well). Furthermore, the console’s quiet operation and striking aesthetic make it a welcome addition to any living room setup.

4. Enhanced Ecosystem and Backward Compatibility

Sony has built a strong ecosystem around the PS5, seamlessly integrating the PS Store, PlayStation Plus, and PlayStation Now. This allows gamers to enjoy a vast library of PS4 classics with enhanced performance. In other words, you can still enjoy your favorite titles remain accessible and enjoyable on the newer console. Additionally, the ecosystem provides a consistent and enriched experience with regular updates, exclusive content, and social features that connect the gaming community.

5. Overall Value Proposition

When it comes to overall value, the PS5 offers a more balanced package for gamers. While the Xbox Series X certainly impresses with raw power, the PS5’s combination of exclusive titles, innovative controller technology, sleek design, and a thriving ecosystem create a more well-rounded experience. This makes the PS5 the preferred choice for many console gamers.

Delayed One UI 7 update rollout may have led to One UI 7.1 cancellation

One UI 7.0 delay leads to One UI 7.1 cancellation

Samsung’s significant delay in rolling out the One UI 7.0 update has made it more disappointing than exciting. The brand started the One UI 7.0 beta program in early December for the Galaxy S24 series. It’s been over two months, yet Samsung is still busy fixing bugs. Not even a single Galaxy device has been updated to the stable version of One UI 7.0. This massive delay has reportedly led to the cancellation of One UI 7.1.

Sammobile, citing anonymous sources, reports that the delay in the stable release of One UI 7.0 has forced Samsung to consider skipping One UI 7.1. Previous leaks suggested that Samsung might debut One UI 7.1 alongside its next-gen foldable devices, namely the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Fold 7. Now, it seems these Galaxy foldables would run One UI 7.0.1 out of the box. The software version suggests fewer changes from One UI 7.0.

Samsung might start rolling out the stable One UI 7.0 update to eligible Galaxy devices with the launch of Galaxy S25 Edge. According to recent leaks, this slim phone will hit the market sometime in April. So, if the leaks are correct, Galaxy S24 and other users will have to wait at least two more months to get the stable One UI 7.0 update. The wait will be even longer for Galaxy A-series, Galaxy M-series, and Galaxy F-series users.

Skipping One UI 7.1 will be good for the brand

Even if Samsung manages to kick off the stable One UI 7.0 rollout in April, the complete rollout may take the first half of 2025. By then, Google would have already released the Android 16. If Samsung decides to go for One UI 7.1, this would cause a significant delay to the One UI 8.0 rollout, which would be based on Android 16.

A fairly large number of Samsung users are already disappointed with the delayed One UI 7.0 rollout, and Samsung wouldn’t want to disappoint them again, which might also damage the business. Hence, it makes sense to skip One UI 7.1 and directly focus on One UI 8.

Last month, some instances of One UI 8 were found in Samsung apps, suggesting the brand is getting its apps ready for a future One UI release. This could possibly mean the brand is already working on One UI 8.

Samsung’s Galaxy S25 Ultra has a camera glitch, but a fix is on the way

The Galaxy S25 Ultra is undoubtedly Samsung‘s top-tier camera phone. However, some early adopters are reporting an annoying issue with their cameras. A handful of users have noticed banding—horizontal or vertical lines—appearing in photos taken with the phone’s night mode.

The problem seems to be tied to the phone’s post-processing software rather than a hardware flaw. Users on Reddit and Samsung’s community forums have shared examples of the banding, which typically shows up near the edges of photos.

Interestingly, the issue isn’t exclusive to the Ultra; some Galaxy S25+ owners have reported similar problems with their cameras.

Samsung acknowledges camera issue on Galaxy S25 Ultra

The good news is that Samsung has officially acknowledged the issue. A company spokesperson confirmed that they’re aware of the issue and have prepared a fix that will be rolled out in an upcoming software update. Coincidentally (or not), the Galaxy S25 series started receiving its first update this week, and the patch likely addresses this problem.

For now, the glitch seems to be isolated to night mode, and it doesn’t appear to affect a large number of users. Still, it’s a reminder that even the most polished devices can have hiccups out of the gate. If you’re one of the unlucky few experiencing this issue, the fix should be just around the corner.

In the meantime, it’s worth noting that the Galaxy S25 Ultra remains one of the most capable camera phones on the market—banding or not. But if you’re considering picking one up, you might want to hold off until the update is widely available, just to be safe.

MediaTek Dimensity 6400 is 3-year old Dimensity 6100+ in disguise

MediaTek just launched its new SoC, the Dimensity 6400, but there’s not much new here. It’s a slight refresh of last year’s Dimensity 6300, with an overclocked prime core and little else to set it apart.

The chip still uses TSMC’s 6nm process, sticks with the same octa-core setup as its predecessor, and even carries over the same GPU. What’s more frustrating is that the Dimensity 6100+ from 2023 already had the same core specs. So, at best, this is just a rebranded 2023 chipset with a minor clock speed bump.

CPU and Performance

The Dimensity 6400 features an octa-core setup with two Cortex-A76 cores clocked at up to 2.5GHz and six Cortex-A55 cores running at 2.0GHz.

This configuration is the same as the Dimensity 6300, just that MediaTek has bumped the prime core frequency from 2.4GHz to 2.5GHz. That should hardly make a difference in CPU performance. Like most modern SoCs, it supports heterogeneous multi-processing, which helps manage workloads across its cores more efficiently.

For graphics, MediaTek is using the Arm Mali-G57 MC2 GPU, again the same as its predecessor. It’s not a high-end GPU, but it should be enough for casual gaming and media consumption. The chipset supports displays with up to a 2520 x 1080 resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate.

The Dimensity 6400 comes with an Image Signal Processor (ISP) that supports up to 108MP cameras. Dual-camera setups are limited to 16MP + 16MP, which is standard for a mid-range SoC. The chip includes support for 3D LUT color management, but MediaTek hasn’t detailed any major computational photography improvements.

The chip supports LPDDR4x RAM at up to 2133MHz and UFS 2.2 storage. While these aren’t the fastest memory and storage technologies available, they should keep up with the needs of mid-range devices.

Connectivity

As expected, the Dimensity 6400 supports both SA and NSA 5G, with dual 5G SIM functionality. It offers a peak download speed of 3.3Gbps, which is on par with other mid-range 5G chips. The inclusion of 5G carrier aggregation (CA) and dual Voice over NR (VoNR) ensures reliable connectivity, even in weaker signal areas.

The chip includes Wi-Fi 5 (802.11ac) with a 1T1R antenna setup, Bluetooth 5.2, and support for various global navigation satellite systems (GPS, BeiDou, Glonass, Galileo, QZSS, and India’s NavIC). However, the lack of Wi-Fi 6 might be a drawback for users looking for more future-proof connectivity.

The Realme P3x 5G is confirmed to be the first smartphone powered by Dimensity 6400. It’s launching in India on February 18th.

Galaxy A15 spotted running One UI 7.0 via RTL

Samsung is slowly but surely testing One UI 7.0 for older Galaxy models. Although the stable version has only rolled out to the Galaxy S25 series so far, test builds have been popping up for other devices. Surprisingly the latest is the entry-level Galaxy A15. The phone has been spotted running One UI 7.0 in Samsung’s Remote Test Lab (RTL).

Samsung Galaxy A25 and Galaxy A15

What’s RTL, and why does it matter?

RTL, or Remote Test Lab, is a virtual testing environment where developers and testers can try out software on devices without needing the physical hardware. Recently, users noticed the Galaxy A15 running One UI 7.0 in RTL, which means Samsung is actively testing the update for this device.

However, don’t get too excited just yet, as it doesn’t guarantee the update will roll out to actual Galaxy A15 devices anytime soon. Samsung is still in the testing phase, and it could take several weeks before the stable build reaches users.

Samsung One UI 7 update rollout

According to recent reports, the Galaxy S24 FE is expected to receive the stable One UI 7.0 update on March 31st. It’s unlikely that the A15 will receive the update before the S24 FE, given Samsung’s usual rollout pattern for major updates.

What’s new in One UI 7.0 for the Galaxy A15?

The Galaxy A15 launched in late 2023 with Android 14 and One UI 6.0, so One UI 7.0 will be its first major update. Users can look forward to new features like:

  • Split mode for quick settings and notifications
  • NowBar
  • More customization options for the home screen and lock screen

That said, don’t expect AI features like those on the Galaxy S25 series. The Galaxy A15’s hardware likely isn’t powerful enough to support advanced AI capabilities.

Galaxy S25’s “Audio Eraser” might come to Galaxy S24 with One UI 7.0

Here’s a good news for the Galaxy S24 users: The Galaxy S25 series’ Audio Eraser feature might be coming to the predecessors. According to tipster @tarunvats33, Samsung could bring this handy AI tool to the Galaxy S24 with the stable One UI 7.0 update.

About the feature

The feature uses AI to pick out up to six different sounds in a video. You can then tweak the volume of each sound or just mute it altogether. Imagine filming a cute video of your dog, but there’s traffic noise or wind ruining the audio. With Audio Eraser, you can zap those unwanted sounds and keep the good stuff. It’s like magic for your videos.

The feature needs a pretty powerful Neural Processing Unit (NPU) to work, but luckily, the Exynos 2400 and Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 of the S24 models are capable enough to handle it. The big question, though, is whether older phones like the Galaxy S23 will get it too. Fingers crossed!

Let’s be real—Galaxy S24 users have been waiting forever for the stable One UI 7.0 update. It’s been over five months since Android 15 dropped, and Samsung’s only rolled it out to the Galaxy S25 and Galaxy F06 5G so far. Adding a feature like Audio Eraser could help make up for the wait and give S24 users something to cheer about.

If the tipster is right, Audio Eraser could be part of the One UI 7.0 update for the Galaxy S24. Audio Eraser is one of those features that just makes life easier, and it’s awesome to hear it might not stay exclusive to the Galaxy S25. It will be interesting to see if any other AI features of the Galaxy S25 series make their way to its predecessors.

5 iconic Snapdragon chips that made a lasting impact on smartphones

Qualcomm’s Snapdragon chips have been at the heart of some of the most important smartphones ever made. From making budget phones run smoother to pushing 5G into the mainstream and setting new performance standards for flagships, a few Snapdragon processors have been pivotal for the industry. Here’s a look at five that left a lasting impact on the market.

1. Snapdragon 400

Back in 2013, mid-range smartphones were still finding their place, and Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 400 series played a huge role in shaping that segment. It struck the right balance between price and performance and gave manufacturers the tools to build capable, affordable devices without major compromises. And it wasn’t just for Android—the Snapdragon 400 even powered Windows Phone devices.

At its core, this chipset packed a quad-core ARM Cortex-A7 CPU, paired with an Adreno 305 GPU to handle graphics. It wasn’t pushing any boundaries with this setup, but it made everyday performance smoother for millions of users. Phones like the Nokia Lumia 630, Xiaomi Mi2A and Motorola Moto G were among the ones that featured this chip.

2. Snapdragon 410

Building on the formula of Snapdragon 400, Qualcomm introduced Snapdragon 410 in late 2013. It was the company’s first 64-bit processor in the entry-level category that ensured even low-cost phones could handle modern software updates and performance demands.

Before this, 64-bit processing was a premium-only feature, but the Snapdragon 410 brought it to the masses. It also arrived just as LTE adoption was surging, and Qualcomm capitalized on this by integrating an LTE modem—meaning even affordable phones could enjoy faster data speeds. And with dual SIM support, it also became a go-to chip in markets where switching networks was essential.

3. Snapdragon 625

Qualcomm unveiled the Snapdragon 625 in 2016 and it quickly became a hit not because it was the most powerful chip, but because it struck an incredible balance between performance and battery life.

It was the first 600-series chip to be built on a power-efficient 14nm FinFET process which drastically improved power efficiency than its predecessor. It used 35% less power than its predecessor in typical daily use.

Under the hood, it packed an octa-core ARM Cortex-A53 CPU clocked at up to 2.0 GHz, paired with an Adreno 506 GPU for smooth graphics. This combo delivered a surprisingly strong user experience, handling everyday tasks effortlessly while keeping phones cool and power-efficient.

Besides efficiency, another flex for 625 was its ability to record 4K videos. This was a rarity in mid-range devices at the time. Plus, with built-in LTE support, it ensured snappier data speeds.

Phones like the Moto Z Play and Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 made the most of the Snapdragon 625, giving users insanely good battery life while still keeping things smooth.

4. Snapdragon 765G

Snapdragon 765G featured

When 5G started rolling out in 2019, it wasn’t just about flagship devices—Qualcomm wanted to make it mainstream. The Snapdragon 765G was their answer: an upper-mid-range chip that brought 5G support and gaming-focused performance to more affordable smartphones.

Built on a 7nm process, it featured an octa-core CPU with a high-performance Cortex-A76 prime core clocked at 2.4 GHz. And that “G” badge”? It wasn’t just for show—the Adreno 620 GPU got a 10% boost over the standard 765.

A significant aspect of the Snapdragon 765G was its integration with the Snapdragon X52 modem. Unlike flagship Snapdragon chips that relied on separate modems, the 765G had the Snapdragon X52 modem baked in, supporting both mmWave and sub-6 GHz 5G for global compatibility. It also flexed its AI muscles, and improved camera performance, voice recognition, and other smart features.

The chip made 5G and high-end gaming more accessible and powered phones like the OnePlus Nord and Google Pixel 5.

5. Snapdragon 8 Elite

Snapdragon 8 Elite AnTuTu score

Fast forward to October 2024, and Qualcomm dropped its latest flagship silicon: the Snapdragon 8 Elite. And it is not just a regular yearly refresh. The 8 Elite is Qualcomm’s first processor to feature its in-house Oryon CPU.

At its core is the second-gen Oryon CPU with two prime cores and six performance cores for snappier speeds and ultra-responsive performance. Whether you’re a power user or a mobile gamer, this chipset is built to keep up with the demand.

But it’s not just about brute force. It also brings advanced AI capabilities to the forefront. The upgraded Hexagon Neural Processing Unit (NPU) enables on-device AI features, such as multimodal AI assistants, real-time image editing, and smarter interactions—all without relying on the cloud. And then there’s the Adreno GPU, now with a sliced architecture that delivers desktop-like graphics and buttery smooth gameplay.

Flagships from Asus, Honor, OnePlus, Oppo, and Xiaomi were quick to adopt the 8 Elite, While Samsung is the newest member to use the chip in its latest Galaxy S25 series.
