DeepSeek is a Chinese AI company that has shaken up the industry with its efficiency claims. The company claims training their V3 model, the predecessor of the R1 model that everyone is using, costs just $5.576 million to train.

Since the release of the R1 model, DeepSeek has achieved widespread adoption all over the world and now Arm CEO predicts that the US government could soon ban the Chinese AI company. National security? Let’s explore what could be the reason.

According to a previous report, NASA has already blocked DeepSeek from its systems, and the U.S. Navy has warned personnel against using the AI service.

DeepSeek is reportedly 50-75% more efficient than its competitors. Despite requiring less power and compute, it has outperformed the OpenAI’s o1 model in different tests. Additionally, it’s free and open source, meaning anyone can build their AI application on top of it.

Privacy? One can download the model and run it locally on their own system. The 7b or 8b parameter model (both are less than 5GB in size) can be installed and operated on a consumer grade device.

A possible reason behind the prediction

DeepSeek has achieved a widespread adoption throughout the world (including the US) and triggered a major selloff in AI-related stocks, with Nvidia losing $600 billion in market value over fears that lower-cost AI models could reduce the demand for expensive AI chips.

It not only achieved the top position in Apple’s app store but also convinced US-based giants like Microsoft to adopt it—companies that would have otherwise stuck with OpenAI for its AI needs. Perplexity has also integrated DeepSeek R1 for better reasoning capabilities and overall smarter responses, which they are running on their servers.

We will need to see if the prediction turns out to be true and how the US companies that are already using or working on it navigate the situation.

Not to mention a lot of the Chinese smartphone makers such as Huawei, Honor, Oppo, and ZTE have also introduced the collaboration with DeepSeek and are working on distilled versions of the R1 model for their on-device AI needs.

Samsung was previously rumored to be working on the Si/C battery tech. In the latest news, South Korean publication FNNews reports that the Galaxy S26 Ultra could pack a capacity of up to 7,000mAh—higher than most of its Chinese competitors.

Increased competition among brands will ultimately benefit all users

For example, the Nubia Red Magic 10 Pro packs a 7050mAh battery, and the upcoming mid-range Redmi Turbo 4 Pro is expected to come with a 7500mAh battery. While Samsung doesn’t directly compete with Chinese OEMs, we hope this rumor turns out to be true and pushes Apple to adopt the new technology. Increased competition among brands will ultimately benefit all users.

The Galaxy S26 series is also expected to support 65W fast charging, which will be required to at least maintain the downtime if not reduce it, given the speculated increase in battery capacity. Nonetheless, these are still rumors, and the numbers may not be entirely accurate since the devices are in early development. In the latest news, a 61-year-old woman shared that her Galaxy Watch detected atrial fibrillation. This is a heart disease in which the upper chambers of the heart beat irregularly and often rapidly. While It is not a direct threat to life, if not treated in time, it can cause a stroke.

The user didn’t pay much attention to the notification at first. But after receiving a total of four notifications regarding the condition, she considered seeking medical help. China’s tablet market experienced a resurgence in 2024, with shipments reaching 29.85 million units, a 4.3% year-on-year increase, according to IDC. While Q4 2024 saw a slight dip due to inventory pressures, the overall market demonstrated positive growth, setting the stage for continued expansion in 2025.

Huawei solidified its dominance, claiming the top spot in both quarterly and annual market share. Despite a Q4 slowdown in consumer shipments, strategic product launches, like the MatePad 11.5 2024 in the competitive 1,500-yuan ($205) segment and the high-end MatePad Pro 13.2, bolstered its position. Huawei also maintained its lead in the commercial sector, overcoming previous supply constraints.

Apple, while holding second place, faced continued shipment declines in Q4, although the rate of decline slowed. The updated iPad Mini and the steadily performing iPad Air were key drivers, while the high price point of the iPad Pro impacted sales.

Xiaomi emerged as a strong contender, securing third place with a remarkable 41% year-on-year surge in Q4 shipments. The launch of the Xiaomi Pad 7 and 7 Pro, coupled with active participation in subsidy programs, fueled this growth.

Honor and Lenovo shared the fourth position in Q4. Honor’s robust growth stemmed from a series of new product launches across various price points, while Lenovo benefited from product refreshes and promotional discounts, particularly in the compact flagship and AI-enhanced segments.

IDC anticipates continued market growth in 2025, driven by product innovation, expanded use cases, and government subsidies. However, they caution about potential market fluctuations due to the subsidy program, urging industry players to adopt flexible strategies. The market is poised for further evolution, with domestic brands gaining momentum and competition intensifying.

Huawei’s first wearable of 2025 will launch in six colors

Huawei is gearing up to launch its next-gen fitness tracker, the Band 10, and this time, it seems to be expanding the color palette. According to a new leak on Chinese social media, the wearable will be available in six colors—one more than its predecessor.

The Band 10 has already surfaced on the certification site, suggesting an official launch in the coming months. Now, tipster Fixed Focus Digital on Weibo claims the device will ship in Black, Green, Pink, Purple, Blue, and White. 

That’s a shift from Band 9, which launched in Feather White, Starry Black, Dawn Pink, Lemon Yellow, and Tranquility Blue. Notably, Green and Purple are the new add-ons that will replace some of last year’s shades.

Huawei has a habit of tweaking its color lineup with each release. The Band 8 introduced a Vitality Orange variant, while the Band 9 leaned into White, Yellow, and Blue. If history is any guide, the Band 10 could bring more than just fresh colors—though we’ll have to wait for Huawei to make it official. 

If you’re wondering what to expect from the Band 10, here’s a quick refresher on the Band 9’s specs.

The Huawei Band 9 packs a 1.47-inch HD 2.5D AMOLED touchscreen with 194×368 resolution, 282ppi pixel density, and support for Always-on Mode. Under the hood, it features a 9-axis IMU sensor—which includes an accelerometer, gyroscope, and magnetometer—alongside an optical heart rate sensor and an ambient light sensor.

On the health front, it’s powered by Huawei TruSeen 5.5 for heart rate tracking, TruSleep 4.0 for sleep monitoring, and TruRelax for stress management. There’s also menstrual cycle tracking for women.

Beyond fitness, it includes music controls, remote camera functionality, quick message replies, and incoming call alerts. Despite its slim (43.45 × 24.86 × 8.99 mm) and lightweight (14g) design, the Band 9 delivers up to 14 days of battery life, with fast charging that hits full capacity in just 45 minutes.

Xiaomi 15 / 15 Ultra global prices leak, and they’re not what you’d expect

Xiaomi is gearing up to launch its Xiaomi 15 series globally in the coming weeks. The company introduced the Xiaomi 15 and Xiaomi 15 Pro in China last October. But the global lineup is expected to feature the standard Xiaomi 15 and the high-end Xiaomi 15 Ultra. Now, a new leak has revealed what these models might cost in international markets.

According to reliable leaker billbil_kun (via Dealabs), the Xiaomi 15 with 512GB of storage will reportedly be priced at €1,099 in Europe. That’s notably close to the Xiaomi 14 series, which is a bit unexpected—especially given the price hikes the Xiaomi 15 and 15 Pro saw in China.

If accurate, this could be good news for global buyers. The leak also suggests that, like last year, a 1TB storage option of Xiaomi 15 may not be available outside China.

As for the Xiaomi 15 Ultra, the 512GB variant is rumored to carry a €1,499 price tag in Europe. Again, this aligns with its predecessor’s launch price.

What to expect

The Xiaomi 15 boasts an improved 5400mAh battery while surprisingly reducing the phone’s weight by 2g. It’s powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite chip and retains a design language similar to its predecessor. The device features a 6.36-inch LTPO OLED screen and a Leica-branded camera module with three 50MP lenses.

The Xiaomi 15 Ultra has been the subject of numerous leaks. A recent image surfaced on the Chinese social network Weibo shows the back design of the phone. The design appears to mimic Leica cameras.

As for the specs, the Xiaomi 15 Ultra is expected to feature a 200MP periscope sensor, a 50MP main lens, a 50MP wide-angle lens, and a 50MP telephoto lens.  Fueling the phone could be a 6000mAh cell and like the Xiaomi 15, the Ultra is expected to be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite chip.

New OxygenOS 15 Update Rollout for OnePlus 10 Pro 5G and 11R Begins

OnePlus has started rolling out new OxygenOS 15 updates for the 10 Pro 5G and 11R. The OnePlus 10 Pro 5G is receiving version 15.0.0.401 in North America, while the OnePlus 11R is getting version 15.0.0.601 in India. A wider release is expected soon.

This update introduces improvements in animations, visual effects, themes, Live Alerts, photo editing, window management, notifications, file sharing, and overall system performance.

  • Animations: A new system graphics engine with parallel drawing architecture promises smoother visuals, even under heavy load. Parallel animation now extends to more UI elements, and system-wide swipe consistency includes third-party apps and WebViews.
  • Visual Effects: Rounded corners are refined for consistency across the system.
  • Themes: “Flux” themes offer extensive customization for Always-On Display, Lock screen, and Home screen, including clock color blending, blurred wallpapers, AI depth effects, and AI auto-fills. Seamless transitions between these screens are also implemented.
  • Live Alerts: A redesigned Live Alerts system provides more efficient information visualization, central placement, and interactive capsules that expand into detailed cards. Animations are fluid and dynamic, with real-time blurring. The update also addresses icon display issues and improves Spotify integration.
  • Photo Editing: Globally reversible editing allows users to revert to previous edit states. Filter integration with the Camera app is enhanced, enabling post-editing of applied filters in Photos.
  • Floating Window and Split View: New gestures simplify floating window management: swipe down from a notification to open, down to enlarge, up to close, and sideways to hide. Floating windows can be dragged to full screen, and Split View windows are resizable.
  • Notifications & Quick Settings: A split mode is added, separating the notification drawer and Quick Settings. Quick Settings are redesigned with an optimized layout and refined animations.
  • OnePlus Share: File sharing with iOS devices is now supported, including live photos.
  • Other Enhancements: Exclusive OxygenOS Always-On Displays and Lock screen clock styles are introduced, along with a resizable Home screen clock widget. Split View can be quickly enabled with a swipe-up gesture, and live photos can be migrated from iOS via Clone Phone.

This update brings minor improvements focused on apps, Live Photos, and system performance.

  • Apps: Photos gains a new feature for personalized watermarks.
  • Live Photos: Users can revert edited Live Photos to their original state after using crop, adjust, filter, or watermark tools.
  • System: System stability and performance are improved, and the February 2025 Android security patch is integrated. A photo frame issue causing crashes or blank screens is resolved.

This update is only available for users already running OxygenOS 15. Users on OxygenOS 14 must upgrade to 15 first. The rollout is incremental, starting with a small percentage of users before expanding. OnePlus encourages users to provide feedback, using the *#800# dialer code (India only) or through the online forum.

To recall, this chipset is Qualcomm’s flagship mobile SoC that powers next gen premium phones and the Realme GT 7 Pro is expected to be the cheapest phone to feature this processor. The Snapdragon 8 Elite on this chip will also be paired with 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 512GB of UFS 4.1 storage.

The Racing Edition will be available in the unique “Neptune Exploration” color, which features a distinctive texture and deep blue color inspired by Neptune.

Sennheiser has just launched the HD 505 headphones, built for both music fans and gamers. They’re manufactured in Sennheiser’s audiophile facility in Tullamore, Ireland, and focus on delivering clear, detailed sound along with lasting comfort.

These open-back headphones use a custom 120-ohm transducer for accurate sound reproduction. With an open-earcup design, they cover a frequency range of 12 to 38,500 Hz with less than 0.2% distortion. The angled transducers are designed to mimic nearfield loudspeakers, providing a more expansive soundstage.

The HD 505 is built on the lightweight chassis of the HD 500 series, weighing just 237 grams. Sony’s next generation of premium headphones could be getting a global launch announcement soon. The brand unveiled its last flagship WH-1000XM5 model back in 2022, and now it appears a successor is right around the corner. The Sony WH-1000XM6 has just surfaced in another certification platform, so here’s what we know.

The Japanese tech giant’s upcoming high end headphones jut recently visited the IMDA database, which is a Singaporean certification (via 91Mobiles). The Sony WH-1000XM6 carried the YY2984 model number. While this listing does not reveal any finer details like its specifications, design, or other notable details, it does confirm that it is a “Wireless Noise Cancelling Stereo Headset”, which supports Bluetooth.

To recall, this is the same model number as the one spotted on the FCC certification last month, which had revealed a lot more details regarding the WH-1000XM6. The brand is apparently planning a design overhaul with a new hinge. Removable earpads were also confirmed along with its general design. Sony’s WH-1000XM6 is expected to launch with support for Bluetooth 5.3 and support for Bluetooth LE Audio. Under the hood, a chipset from MediaTek might power these premium headphones and it will likely support fast charging support as well.

Sony might unveil the WH-1000XM6 headphones in the second quarter of this year (between April and May). Sources have claimed that it will be available in three color options, namely river, blue, and black. Recently, Realme confirmed that it will announce its first P3-series phone, dubbed the Realme P3 Pro, on Feb. 18 in India. The brand also confirmed a few key specifications of the device. Today, it released an official confirmation on the P3 Pro’s colour options.

The Realme P3 Pro will come in three exclusive colours for the Indian market: Nebula Glow, Saturn Brown, and Galaxy Purple. Notably, the Nebula Glow variant features a colour-changing fibre back panel that makes its nebula-like patterns glow in the dark, giving it a striking cosmic appearance.

The P3 Pro has a slim chassis of 7.99mm and still houses a massive 6,000mAh battery. It is durable as it offers IP66/68/69-level dust and water resistance. While the company has revealed the Glow (green) and purple shades, it is yet to showcase the brown variant.

The Realme P3 Pro is confirmed to feature a quad-curved OLED panel that offers a 1.5K resolution and an in-screen fingerprint scanner. On the back, it has an OIS-enabled 50-megapixel dual-camera system.

Under the hood, the P3 Pro has the Snapdragon 7s Gen 3, and it is confirmed to support 80W fast charging. One of the major attractions of this performance-driven mid-ranger is that it comes with GT Boost for a lag-free experience while playing BGMI. For heat dissipation, the P3 Pro is equipped with a 6,050mm² vapour chamber cooling unit.

Leaked information that emerged in January revealed that the P3 Pro will be announced in multiple configurations, such as 8GB+128GB, 12GB+256GB, and 12GB+512GB. This information could be true since the same reports also tipped the color variants, which have turned out to be true today. The P3 series includes multiple models, such as the Realme P3x, Realme P3, and Realme P3 Ultra. These devices are expected to debut within Q1 this year.

New Features
Firefox Translations now supports Simplified Chinese, Japanese, and Korean, with Russian added as a target language. A built-in AI Chatbot—accessible via the sidebar or Firefox Labs—is being rolled out globally, requiring users to select a provider to activate. Credit card autofill is also now widely available.

Security Upgrades
Firefox enforces certificate transparency, mandating proof of public disclosure for server certificates. The CRLite revocation system improves performance for certificate checks. A new safeguard blocks sites from flooding browser history via the history API, preventing navigation issues.

Interface Changes
The redesigned New Tab layout—featuring a streamlined logo placement, story cards, and up to four columns on large screens—expands to all regions with Stories support. Linux and macOS users can now close single tabs using the Quit shortcut when multiple tabs are open.

Privacy Tweaks
The “Do Not Track” checkbox is removed; users must enable Global Privacy Control (GPC) to request data privacy. The renamed “Copy Clean Link” strips tracking parameters from URLs and works on plain text links.

Developer Tools
Firefox 135 warns against improper use of content visibility, adds a $$$ console command for shadow root searches, and fixes WebExtension debugging for workers and content scripts. Linux binaries now use XZ compression for faster unpacking.

Web Platform Updates

Huawei is paying significant attention to the imaging capabilities of the upcoming Pura 80 Ultra. The Chinese smartphone maker has previously experimented with RYYB configuration for the image sensors, and the Pura 80 Ultra will reportedly be a part of that.

The news comes from reliable Weibo tipster Digital Chat Station, who previously revealed some information about the prototype of the Pura 80 Ultra. Huawei was reportedly testing it with a 50MP, 1-inch main sensor with variable aperture, and a 1/1.31″ periscope telephoto that has an RYYB configuration. Now the tipster reiterates on that leak saying the main sensor also be a part of the experiment.

Why does it matter?

For those unfamiliar, RGGB (commonly used in smartphone sensors) and RYYB refer to different color filter array configurations used to capture color information. While RGGB is considered to be ideal for general photography, the RYYB configuration excels in low-light conditions, capturing brighter images but sometimes at the cost of color accuracy.

So, it may benefit the Pura 80 Ultra in low-light photography. As for the color accuracy, the smartphone giant has previously experimented with it and likely has some experience on how to navigate through the challenges that come with RYYB. Nonetheless, we’ll need to test the color accuracy ourselves once the device hits the market.

The tipster also stated that the entire series comes with variable aperture, and the amount of light that enters the main sensor is sufficient.

To recall, Huawei used the RYYB color filter array with the Pura 70 Ultra as well, and the phone competes well with other flagships regardless of the lighting condition.
