Microsoft Quietly Removes Windows 11 Workaround for Unsupported PCs

Microsoft has quietly removed its official guidance for bypassing Windows 11’s stringent hardware requirements. This change, made after the release of Windows 11 version 24H2, eliminates the workaround from its support documentation, signaling the company’s shift away from accommodating unsupported devices.

Windows 11

When Windows 11 debuted in October 2021, it faced significant criticism over its strict hardware requirements, particularly the need for modern CPUs and TPM 2.0 support.

To address user concerns, Microsoft published a workaround allowing users to bypass these checks by tweaking a Registry key. This allowed unsupported PCs to upgrade to Windows 11, albeit with a disclaimer warning of potential system instability and the risk of serious errors.

The now-deleted workaround involved creating a specific Registry key:

  • Registry Key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\Setup\MoSetup
  • Name: AllowUpgradesWithUnsupportedTPMOrCPU
  • Type: REG_DWORD
  • Value: 1

Microsoft explicitly warned users of the risks associated with modifying the Registry, noting that it could lead to issues requiring a system reinstall. However, the company no longer officially endorses this bypass method, even though the workaround itself may still function.

The official workaround now is to buy new hardware

Instead, Microsoft’s current recommendation is for users to upgrade to newer hardware that meets Windows 11’s system requirements. The move comes after repeated clarifications from Microsoft that it was not relaxing the hardware eligibility criteria for Windows 11.

The company has consistently emphasized the importance of these requirements for performance, security, and reliability.  Partners like Dell and AMD have also likely aligned with this position.

While the registry trick may still work in some cases, Microsoft has made it clear that it no longer guarantees a smooth experience on unsupported devices. With this change, the company is doubling down on its recommendation to opt for newer hardware, aligning with its long-term strategy for Windows 11.

Comparing OnePlus 13 and Oppo Find X8: Which is Better?

Choosing between the OnePlus 13 and Oppo Find X8 is tough, as both offer cutting-edge features, premium designs, and powerful performance. While OnePlus is known for its flagship-killer approach with top-tier hardware, Oppo brings innovative camera technology and value-packed pricing. With differences in display, chipset, battery life, and pricing, this comparison helps determine which phone suits your needs best. Let’s break down their strengths to see which one stands out.

1. Design and Display

Oneplus 13
OnePlus 13

The OnePlus 13 and Oppo Find X8 both feature premium builds with glass fronts and backs, supported by aluminum frames. However, the OnePlus 13 offers an eco-leather variant, adding a unique texture and grip. Both devices boast IP68/IP69 water and dust resistance, making them highly durable.

The OnePlus 13 has a larger 6.82-inch LTPO 4.1 AMOLED display with a higher resolution (1440 x 3168) and sharper 510 ppi density. This makes it more detailed than the Find X8’s 6.59-inch AMOLED screen with a resolution of 1256 x 2760 (460 ppi). The OnePlus 13 also includes Ceramic Guard glass for protection, while the Find X8 relies on Gorilla Glass 7i.

Both support 1B colors, 120Hz refresh rates, Dolby Vision, HDR10+, and ultra HDR. However, the OnePlus 13 offers a more immersive experience due to its size and higher resolution. If you prioritize the best display quality for media consumption and gaming, the OnePlus 13 is the better choice.

2. Specifications

oppo find x8
OPPO Find X8

Snapdragon 8 Elite powers the OnePlus 13, while the Oppo Find X8 uses the MediaTek Dimensity 9400. Both are powerful, but Snapdragon generally offers better optimization, making the OnePlus 13 potentially more efficient.

Battery-wise, the OnePlus 13 has a larger 6000mAh battery compared to the 5630mAh of the Find X8. It also charges faster with 100W wired charging, reaching 50% in just 13 minutes, while the Find X8 supports 80W wired charging. Both support 50W wireless and 10W reverse wireless charging.

If battery longevity and faster charging are priorities, the OnePlus 13 is the winner. However, the Find X8 balances performance and power efficiently, making it a great option for those who prefer a MediaTek chipset.

3. Camera

Oneplus 13
OnePlus 13

Both phones feature triple 50 MP rear cameras with periscope telephoto and ultrawide lenses. The OnePlus 13 has a slightly larger sensor for its main camera (1/1.43″) compared to the Find X8’s (1/1.56″), allowing for better light intake and improved low-light performance.

Video recording is a standout feature on the OnePlus 13, supporting 8K@30fps and higher slow-motion frame rates, whereas the Find X8 maxes out at 4K@60fps. Both offer Hasselblad color calibration, laser autofocus, and excellent stabilization.

For selfies, both phones have a 32 MP front camera with similar performance. However, the OnePlus 13’s superior video recording capabilities and sensor size give it an edge for photography enthusiasts.

4. Pricing

Both the OnePlus 13 and Oppo Find X8 fall within a similar price range of $700 to $1,000, depending on the variant and region. This makes the decision more about features rather than cost. The OnePlus 13 offers a larger battery, higher-resolution display, and superior video recording, while the Find X8 provides an additional Android upgrade and a slightly more compact form factor. Since their pricing is nearly identical, the choice comes down to whether you prefer OnePlus’ performance and battery advantage or Oppo’s long-term software support. But for overall flagship experience, the OnePlus 13 is the stronger pick.

5. Conclusion

oppo find x8
OPPO Find X8

Since both phones are priced similarly, the decision comes down to features rather than cost. The OnePlus 13 still holds an edge with its higher-resolution display, bigger battery, faster charging, and more powerful Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset. These factors make it a better choice for users who prioritize performance, longevity, and multimedia experience.

However, the Oppo Find X8 offers an additional year of Android updates, making it more future-proof in terms of software. If you value long-term software support and slightly more compact dimensions, the Find X8 is a solid alternative. But for overall hardware superiority, the OnePlus 13 is the better buy.

Samsung is preparing to launch the Galaxy A56 soon. The upcoming mid range smartphone just had its support pages go live that confirms its imminent release as well as its regional availability. So let’s check it out.

Samsung Galaxy A56 support page goes live

Samsung Galaxy A56 launch

The South Korean tech giant’s Galaxy A56 had its support page go live in India and the UK carrying the SM-A566E/DS and SM-A566B/DS model numbers. For those unaware, the E stands for the Indian variant while the B is for the global version. The DS at the end stands for dual SIM support. So we can expect both regions to get dua SIM card slots.

Samsung Galaxy A56 3C Certification

This also hints that the company could be planning on having the global and Indian releases around the same time. Just a couple of days ago, the Galaxy A56 cleared the FCC and TUV Rheinland certification. A fresh report also talked about how the Galaxy A56 will offer “Awesome Intelligence” but could be harder to repair due to design changes.

Samsung Galaxy A56 launch

To recall, the Galaxy A56 had its renders revealed in a leak, which confirmed a redesign. The rear now features an oval pill shaped module that houses the triple camera setup. Based on what we know so far, the Galaxy A56 will be equipped with the Exynos 1580 SoC, which will be paired with 8GB of RAM. Samsung is set to release this model in the Chinese market as well, since the Galaxy A56 surfaced on the 3C certification. The listing even confirmed 45W wired fast charging support. Realme GT 7 Geekbench Listing Reveals Snapdragon 8 Elite; Expected to Launch in February

Realme‘s upcoming GT 7 smartphone has surfaced in benchmark and certification listings, revealing key specifications. A Geekbench entry, spotted by MySmartPrice, shows the device (model number RMX5090) scoring 2,914 in single-core and 8,749 in multi-core tests.

Realme GT 7 Geekbench

The listing points to an octa-core Qualcomm SoC, likely the Snapdragon 8 Elite, featuring six cores at 3.53GHz and two performance cores at 4.32GHz, coupled with an Adreno 850 GPU. The device is confirmed to have up to 16GB of RAM and will run Android 15, presumably with Realme UI 6.0. Prior 3C certification confirms 120W wired fast charging.

Realme GT 7

Previously spotted TENAA data reveals a 6.78-inch 1.5K AMOLED display. Multiple RAM and storage variants are anticipated, including 8GB, 12GB, 16GB, or 24GB of RAM and 128GB to 1TB of storage. As for optics, the device is expected to feature a dual camera setup, lacking the periscope telephoto camera present on the Realme GT 7 Pro model. With that in mind, we are likely looking at a 50MP primary + 8MP ultrawide camera setup.

While an official launch date remains unannounced, the Realme GT 7 is expected soon in China. A recent report claimed that we can expect the device to arrive in China by the end of February. As for pricing, rumors suggest that the GT 7 will be the cheapest Snapdragon 8 Elite smartphone, taking the title from the OnePlus Ace 5 Pro, which launched with a starting price of 3,399 Yuan (~$465) in China.

Vivo X200s to pack ultrasonic fingerprint scanner and wireless charging, X300 Pro mini in the works

Vivo has already launched three smartphones in the X200 series—the X200, X200 Pro, and X200 Pro Mini—but the lineup is far from complete. Reports suggest that three more devices are on the way: the X200s, X200s Pro, and X200 Ultra.

The X200s and X200s Pro are expected to bring iterative upgrades over their standard counterparts. A key change could be the inclusion of the Dimensity 9400 Plus chipset.

The chip, which is still unofficial, will be an upgraded version of the Dimensity 9400 found in the current X200 series.

Vivo X200s Specs Leak, X300 Pro mini in the work

Adding to the speculation, a recent Weibo post from tipster Experience More claims the X200s will include both an ultrasonic fingerprint scanner and wireless charging. Interestingly, the tipster suggests these features might become standard across future X series devices from Vivo.

Vivo X300 Pro mini is in the works

But that’s not all. The tipster also claims Vivo has already kicked off development on a successor to the X200 Pro Mini. That contradicts an earlier report from January, which suggested there might not be an X300 Pro Mini at all.

However, the leak from Experience More suggests X300 Pro mini is reportedly in the prototype phase, though its exact place in Vivo’s lineup remains unclear.

The tipster hints that Vivo might be reconsidering the phone’s “positioning”, which could mean tweaks to its camera system—but for now, the details are murky.

It’s still unclear when Vivo plans to launch the X200s in China. The previous models debuted alongside the X100 Ultra last year, so if Vivo follows the same playbook, we could see all the new devices launch together once again. We will keep you in the loop on any new updates.

One UI 7 will be the final major update for these Galaxy devices

How Samsung’s software update policy compares to other brands?

When it comes to excellent software support for Android devices, there are only two brands in my mind: Samsung and Google. Both now offer seven years of Android updates to their premium devices — the maximum you can get on any Android device. What’s more impressive is their rollout speed. They are often quicker than other Android brands in bringing the latest Android OS to their devices.

Even for mid-range and cheaper models, there’s no match to Samsung. Most of them get three or four major updates, which is what other brands promise to their expensive models. The $200 Galaxy A16 5G came as a surprise last year, promising as many as six Android updates.

Samsung continues to impress us with its excellent software support, and hopefully, things will only keep getting better over the coming years.

Vivo V50’s Geekbench listing confirms it as the third V-series phone with this Snapdragon chip

Reports have revealed that the upcoming Vivo V50 smartphone has the V2427 model number. The said device has emerged in the database of the Geekbench benchmarking platform, revealing its chipset, RAM, and OS version. The listing confirms that it is the third V-series phone from the brand featuring the same chipset.

The above screenshot showcases the Vulkan score of the Vivo V50 (V2427) phone, which is equipped with the Adreno 720 graphics. The CPU and GPU details available through the listing are enough to confirm that the V50 is equipped with the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3. The listing also reveals that the device features 8 GB of RAM and Android 15.

Vivo has previously used the same chip to power previous generation V-series phones, such as the Vivo V40 and Vivo V30, which were announced in 2024. For those who don’t know, the SD7G3 chip was announced in November 2023.

The V50’s Vulkan score of 4122 points on Geekbench 6 suggests decent mid-range GPU performance, indicating smooth gaming and graphics rendering but not flagship-level power. After all, the V-series does not need a very high-performance chip as it is a photograph-focused phone.

According to reports, the V50 will have a 50-megapixel main camera with OIS support and a 50-megapixel ultra-wide lens. The device is expected to feature an autofocus-enabled 50-megapixel camera on the front. Depending on the market, the device is expected to arrive in variants such as 8GB+128GB, 8GB+256GB, and 12GB+256GB. It is expected to arrive in shades, such as Rose Red, Blue, and Grey.

The V50 will have a 6.67-inch AMOLED panel with support for a 1.5K resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. It will be an IP68-rated phone equipped with a 6,000mAh battery with 90W fast charging. The handset is likely to debut on Feb. 18 in India.

The case and bezel are made of resin, and the watch face is covered with resin glass. The stainless-steel band has a free-type clasp and fits wrist sizes between 150 and 205 mm. It will be complemented by a 50-megapixel Samsung JN5 ultra-wide lens, a 50-megapixel Sony IMX858 telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom and macro shooting capabilities, and a 200-megapixel Samsung HP9 periscope telephoto with 4.3x optical zoom. It may pack a 6,000mAh battery with 90W wired and 50W wireless charging support.

Oppo Find N5 to come in white, will launch alongside Watch X2

After months of anticipation, Oppo is gearing up to unveil its next foldable flagship, the Find N5, in February or March. The device is set to be the world’s thinnest foldable and the first to run on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset. It will also boast IPX6, IPX8, and IPX9 rating water resistance—again a first for a foldable.

Adding to the list of details, Zhou Yibai, the product manager for Oppo’s Find series, has now confirmed that the Find N5 will come in a white color variant. The confirmation came through comments on his latest post on Weibo. Reports also suggest a black model could be in the lineup.

Oppo Find N5 vs cards thickness

Zhou also clarified that the Find N5 will launch alongside the Oppo Watch X2. The smartwatch might have a blood pressure monitoring feature and a circular dial design, as revealed by the TENAA certification

Oppo Find N5 Specifications (Expected)

While it’s almost certain that the Oppo Find N5 will feature Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, reports suggest it might use the 7-core variant of the SoC. The details come from Geekbench, where the device scored 3083 in single-core tests and 8865 in multi-core tests.

Despite its claim to fame as the “world’s thinnest” foldable, the Find N5 is rumored to house a sizeable 5,700mAh battery—a notable jump from the 4,805mAh battery in the Find N3, which weighs 239 grams. Charging won’t be a compromise either, with support for 80W wired and 50W wireless fast charging.

On to the cameras, the Find N5 is said to house a triple-rear camera setup, including a periscope telephoto lens for zoom shoots.

Other design elements might stay familiar. The foldable will retain a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, while both its internal and external screens will sport flat designs, like its predecessor.

Poco F7 specifications (rumored)

Speculations are rife that the Poco F7 could be a rebranded version of the upcoming Redmi Turbo 4 Pro. As per reports, the Redmi model will have a 1.5K OLED LTPS panel with a flat design, the upcoming Snapdragon 8s Elite chipset, and a 7,500mAh battery with 90W fast charging.

The battery size is still a matter of discussion, as there is a possibility that the final model may pack a 6,000mAh battery. The other details of the phone are under wraps.

DeepSeek may be the answer to Apple’s AI woes in China: Apple Intelligence for iPhone finally found a way in?

Apple might finally have a way of bringing its Apple Intelligence to China. The brand announced the latest iPhone 16 lineup with new AI powered features, but these never rolled out in China. This is where DeepSeek could come in as a great solution, as per a new report.

Apple could use DeepSeek for its iPhones

China is a major market for the Cupertino based giant. Athough, Apple couldn’t roll out its AI features in the region due to local regulations. The company needs to get Apple Intelligence approved by the Chinese government to run its AI model. But the newly unveiled DeepSeek could open the door for Apple Intelligence in China and might even offer a few improvements as well.

Apple Intelligence

This new AI model was developed in China and has disrupted AI giants and the industry as a whole. According to a new report from Weibo, Tim Cook is excited in the opportunity to work with DeepSeek. The iPhone maker is reportedly in the testing phase of integrating the AI model into its devices. Considering how DeepSeek also has a cheaper operating cost, it could be a serviceable alternative to Apple’s AI, which it ships in other regions.

In a recent research report, it was found that Apple was losing market share to local brands due to iPhones lacking AI functionality. Android flagships now arrive with features that leverage AI. So this might be a key strategic move from Apple. Keep in mind that this is still just an unconfirmed report at the moment, so take this news with a pinch of salt and stick around for more.

The Ace 5 and Ace 5 Pro that are available in China are equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 and Snapdragon 8 Elite chipsets, respectively. According to the tipster, the upcoming Ace 5 series phone will have a flat screen and a Dimensity chip.

The leak also reveals that it will be unveiled in the second quarter of this year.

Unfortunately, the exact moniker of the device is not known. It is unclear whether it will be called the Ace 5s or the Ace 5V.
