Feker Alice 98 Pro Review: Typing Comfort Meets Customization

The Feker Alice 98 Pro is a keyboard that caught my attention due to its ergonomic design and versatile features. As someone who spends a lot of time typing, I was curious about the Alice layout and the promises of comfort, customization, and durability. After using this keyboard for a few weeks, here’s my take on it.

Feker Alice 98 Pro Review

1. Unboxing and First Impressions

Feker-Alice-98-Pro-Review

The keyboard arrived in premium packaging that felt sturdy and protective. Inside the box, I found everything I needed: the keyboard, a USB-C cable, keycap and switch pullers, two spare switches, an instruction manual (in both English and Chinese), and a wrist rest designed to complement the keyboard. The first impression was solid, everything looked well-built and thoughtfully designed.

Feker Alice 98 Pro Review

The keyboard itself has a split Alice layout with a 98% arrangement, including a number pad, which immediately stood out. Its frame is made of ABS plastic with a matte finish. While the finish feels good to the touch, it does tend to attract dust, which might bother some users. At 1.17 kg, the keyboard has a substantial feel without being overly heavy.

2. Build Quality and Design

Feker-Alice-98-Pro-Review

The case is sturdy, and the overall build quality is impressive for a keyboard in this price range. It uses a gasket-mounted structure with multiple layers of padding, including Poron foam and silicone, which contribute to a soft typing feel and decent acoustics.

The keyboard also features a polycarbonate plate and south-facing RGB LEDs with 21 lighting effects. The RGB lighting is bright and vivid, but I did notice flickering on the left side of my unit. This seems to be a defect specific to my unit, but it’s something to keep in mind.

Additionally, the keyboard comes with adjustable feet that offer three distinct height settings, allowing you to customize the keyboard’s angle to your preference.

There are two USB-C ports on the back, which adds versatility in terms of connectivity. The switches for toggling between Windows/Mac modes and the three connection modes (wired, Bluetooth, and 2.4GHz wireless) are functional but felt a bit stiff to operate. While it’s not a major issue, smoother switches would have been a welcome improvement.

3. Connectivity and Battery Life

The three-mode connectivity is a highlight of the Feker Alice 98 Pro. Switching between wired, Bluetooth 5.0, and 2.4GHz wireless modes is seamless once you get the hang of the stiff toggle switches. The keyboard supports both Mac and Windows systems, and I had no trouble pairing it with multiple devices.

It also comes with a huge 8,000mAh battery. Feker claims up to 30 days of battery life, and while I haven’t had the chance to test it for that long, I’ve been using it for over a week with the RGB lighting on, and it’s still going strong. This level of battery performance is impressive, especially for a keyboard with RGB lighting.

4. Typing Experience

Feker-Alice-98-Pro-Review

This was my first time using an Alice layout, and I’ll admit that the transition wasn’t as smooth as I hoped. It took me over a week to get comfortable typing on this layout. However, once I adjusted, I found the design to be quite ergonomic.

The 3° arch shape in the split layout aligns well with the natural position of the hands, reducing strain on the fingers and wrists. Using the wrist rest enhanced the overall comfort, especially during long typing sessions.

The keyboard uses Flower Switch switches, which were pre-installed in my unit. They are linear switches with a smooth keystroke and a very sweet sound profile. The lubed stabilizers were a nice touch, ensuring that larger keys like the spacebar and enter key didn’t feel or sound rattly.

5. Customizability

The keyboard is QMK and VIA compatible, allowing extensive customization. I mapped a few macros and remapped some keys to suit my workflow, and the process was straightforward. The hot-swappable PCB supports both 3-pin and 5-pin switches, making it easy to experiment with different switches without any soldering.

6. Final Thoughts

Feker-Alice-98-Pro-Review

At $119.99 for the three-mode version, the Feker Alice 98 Pro offers excellent value for those looking to try an Alice layout. The ergonomic design, robust connectivity options, and extensive customizability make it a compelling choice. However, the stiff toggles and dust-prone finish may detract from the experience for some.

If you’re willing to spend some time getting used to the layout and don’t mind minor quirks, the Alice 98 Pro is a solid ergonomic keyboard that combines functionality and comfort effectively. For me, it was worth the investment, but it’s not without its caveats.

7. Pricing and Availability

The three-mode version of the Feker Alice98 Pro is priced at $119.99 and is now available to purchase from Mechkeys. It’s available in three color options: red, white, and black, and comes with a choice of two switches: Flower and Rose Silent. Mechkeys is also kicking off its Christmas & New Year Celebration Sale from December 23rd to January 7th, featuring exciting offers, mystery boxes, mouse skate gifts, and more.

Oppo Find X8 Ultra to Feature Sony Sensors for 3x and 6x Telephoto Cameras

The Oppo Find X8 Ultra will launch in China after the Find N5 foldable, as confirmed by the company officials. But whenever the device will show up, the it will unsurprisingly be a monster camera phone.

The Find X8 Ultra’s standout feature will be the dual telephoto camera system, similar to its predecessor. And now, a reliable Chinese tipster has shared detailed specifications for these zoom lenses.

Oppo Find X8 Ultra camera specs

According to Digital Chat Station, the first telephoto lens will pack a 50MP Sony IMX906 sensor with a large 1/1.56-inch sensor size and offer 3x optical zoom.

On the other hand, the second telephoto lens will sport a 50MP Sony IMX882 sensor with a 1/1.953-inch sensor size and an impressive 6x periscope zoom.

While the tipster didn’t delve into the rest of the camera specs of the phone, previous reports suggest it will have a 50MP Sony LYT900 primary sensor with a 1-inch optical format and a 50 MP Sony IMX882 ultra-wide lens.

A previous report also gave us a sneak peek at the internal layout of the Find X8 Ultra against the Find X7 Ultra and there doesn’t seem to be much of a difference in camera placements. The telephoto sensors are clearly bigger, though.

Rest of the specs

In terms of other specifications, we are expecting the Find X8 Ultra to have a micro-quad-curved screen. It reportedly features a 6.82-inch BOE X2 LTPO OLED display with 2K+ resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate, possibly the same panel used in the OnePlus 13.

The device is expected to run on the Snapdragon 8 Elite (SM8750) chip, unlike the Dimensity 9400 found in other Find X8 series models. And the battery is said to be 6,000mAh in size which will be fueled via 80W adapter. The X8 Ultra is also rumored to have IP68 and IP69 ratings, ensuring protection against water and dust.

OnePlus Ace 5 Pro will feature gaming-focused Wi-Fi G1 Chip: a first in mobile gaming networks

The upcoming OnePlus Ace 5 Pro is set to redefine mobile gaming connectivity with its groundbreaking e-sports Wi-Fi G1 chip. Slated for release on December 26, this marks a significant milestone for the industry as the first chip designed explicitly for mobile gaming networks.

A new era of gaming connectivity?

OnePlus officially announced that the Ace 5 Pro will feature the e-sports Wi-Fi G1 chip, a first-of-its-kind technology tailored to gaming networks. Dubbed the “wall-penetrating king,” the chip is designed to deliver unparalleled network stability and performance.

Complementing this is an advanced “e-sports antenna system” and a “game cloud computing dedicated network,” which collectively aim to guarantee a lag-free and smooth gaming experience. According to OnePlus, even challenging environments like dormitories will enjoy stadium-level network performance, ensuring a seamless gaming experience in any setting.

Under the hood, the OnePlus Ace 5 Pro boasts Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite chip, the same powerhouse used in the flagship OnePlus 13. The company claims that their proprietary chip-level gaming technology optimizes performance beyond standard expectations for this chipset.

With “industry-exclusive” GPU rendering, the device supports native 120 frames per second gameplay and fully-powered native 1080P resolution, making it ideal for competitive gaming. Additionally, the base OnePlus Ace 5 with Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 has already demonstrated gaming performance close to Snapdragon 8 Elite phones, setting high expectations for the Pro variant.

A shift in design:

The OnePlus Ace 5 Pro isn’t just about a considerable jump in performance. Its design shifts from curved sides to a flat form factor, following modern industry trends. The display is protected by double-sided crystal shield glass, ensuring durability against scratches and drops, and it comes with an IP65 rating for dust and water resistance.

For multimedia enthusiasts, the Ace 5 Pro supports Dolby Vision video playback, offering vibrant visuals for an immersive viewing experience. Audio quality is enhanced with three AI-powered noise-reducing microphones, ensuring clarity during calls and recordings.

Poco X7 5G processor, display, camera and battery detail leaks

We’ve all seen the rumors swirling around the upcoming Poco X7 5G. Renders surfaced a while back hinting at a design quite similar to the Redmi Note 14 Pro 5G, and now, a new leak suggests the specs might follow suit.

Tipster Paras Guglani seems to have spilled the beans on the global model of the Poco X7 5G, and if this leak is accurate, it appears to be a near-carbon copy of the Redmi Note 14 Pro 5G.

Poco X7 5G Specifications

The Poco X7 5G will be powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 7300 Ultra processor, paired with up to 12GB of RAM and a whopping 512GB of storage. Xiaomi’s virtual RAM technology also makes an appearance, allowing you to expand the RAM further to a total of 24GB.

On the front, the X7 5G will sport a 6.67-inch AMOLED display with a 1.5K resolution and a smooth 120Hz refresh rate. Nestled within a punch-hole cutout is a 20MP selfie camera.

Flip the phone over, and you’ll find a familiar 50MP main sensor with OIS, likely accompanied by the same 8MP ultrawide and 2MP macro sensors found on the Redmi Note 14 Pro 5G. The leak doesn’t mention any specifics about these additional rear cameras, but it’s safe to assume they’ll offer similar functionality.

Poco also seems to be including some AI-powered camera features like AI Image Expansion, AI Film, and AI Erase Pro. These features are becoming increasingly common in mid-range phones and can be helpful for enhancing photos or removing unwanted objects from the frame.

Keeping the lights on is a sizable 5110mAh battery, which supports 45W fast charging. The Poco X7 5G is also rumored to boast some additional features, including TÜV Rheinland eye care certification, IP68 water and dust resistance, and Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protection for the display.

With the design and specs now revealed, the only thing left is Poco’s official announcement of the launch date and price. We’ll keep you updated as soon as Poco shares more details.

The device, listed under model number “25010PN30I,” received BIS certification on December 20, 2024 (spotted by Thetechoutlook). While the certification does not explicitly mention the name, earlier IMEI listings have linked this model to the Indian variant of the Xiaomi 15 Ultra.

The global version will carry a similar model number ending in ‘G,’ while the Chinese variant concludes with ‘C.’ As with the Xiaomi 14 Series, the Xiaomi 15 Ultra is likely to launch alongside the Xiaomi 15 in India and global markets, mirroring its Chinese release pattern. The Pro variant is expected to remain exclusive to China.

Xiaomi 15 Ultra renders black

The Xiaomi 15 Ultra has yet to launch in China, with recent rumors suggesting a February 2025 release, delaying earlier expectations of a January debut. Indian and global launches will likely follow in March or April 2025.

Specifications
The Xiaomi 15 Ultra will feature Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset and Android 15-based HyperOS 2.0. The smartphone is expected to sport a 6.7-inch LTPO OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and a micro-curved design for enhanced aesthetics.

Samsung Galaxy S25 Slim could feature same battery size as the S24 Ultra; launch timeframe also revealed

Samsung is preparing to unveil its much-anticipated Galaxy S25 series, and the leaks just keep coming! Among the lineup, a new model—the Galaxy S25 Slim—is generating buzz for its slick design and impressive specifications. While official confirmation from Samsung is still pending, rumors suggest the company will host its next Unpacked event on January 22, 2025, to debut the Galaxy S25 lineup. However, conflicting reports hint that the Slim model might see a separate launch later in the year.

Galaxy S25 Slim

Galaxy S25 Slim appears in new leak:

The Galaxy S25 Slim is rumored to measure under 7 mm in thickness, making it one of the thinnest smartphones Samsung has ever produced. For comparison, Apple’s iPhone 17 Air is expected to come in even slimmer at just 5-6 mm. This focus on sleek design could signal a new trend in the smartphone market, with companies prioritizing aesthetics alongside performance.

Despite its thin profile, the Galaxy S25 Slim is said to pack a 4700mAh to 5000mAh battery. This is impressive, especially considering that Samsung’s current Ultra model houses a similar 5000mAh capacity while delivering excellent battery life. The Slim model is also rumored to feature a 6.66-inch display, comparable to the Galaxy S24+. Under the hood, it will reportedly be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite chip, just like the other models in the lineup.

On the camera front, the leak corroborates earlier reports about the device’s triple-lens setup:

  • 200MP HP5 main camera
  • 50MP JN5 ultra-wide lens
  • 50MP JN5 3.5x telephoto lens

These specifications suggest Samsung is doubling down on photography and video capabilities, even for its slimmer models.

Beyond the Slim model’s immediate appeal, the leaks suggest it could play a pivotal role in shaping Samsung’s future design philosophy. Rumors indicate that Samsung is employing innovative lens technology to fit larger, high-resolution sensors without significantly increasing the camera bump. This aligns with the Slim’s design goals, offering a sleeker appearance without compromising on functionality.

The Galaxy S25 Slim could launch separately

Interestingly, reports suggest the Galaxy S25 Slim might launch separately in Q2 2025 (April–June). This potential staggered release could give Samsung more time to market the device and gauge consumer interest. Moreover, its success is expected to influence the design language of the Galaxy S26 series and beyond.

Are Smartwatches Worth It? Here’s What You Need to Know

Smartwatches have evolved from niche gadgets to mainstream tech in just a few years. Brands like Apple, Samsung, and Garmin are among the leading players in this business. They offer wearables with precise health tracking features and other software functionality. But they don’t come cheap.

The latest Apple Watch Series 10 will set you back $400, which is the cost of a mid-range phone. So this begs the question, are they worth it?

The answer largely depends on what you need from your devices and how much you value the features smartwatches provide. Let’s break it down.

1. What Can a Smartwatch Do?

Fitness Tracking

Fitness tracking is a key selling point for smartwatches. Most models come with a set of standard features such as step counting, calorie tracking, and sleep monitoring.

And while those are basics, premium models like Apple Watch Series 10 and Galaxy Watch 7 offer much more advanced features like ECGs, and VO2 max estimates. They can also detect atrial fibrillation or Samsung even offers blood pressure monitoring on their watches.

Keep in mind though, they’re in no way substitutes for medical devices. These features could be valuable for health-conscious users or those managing chronic conditions.

Convenience

Another key offering of smartwatches is their ability to handle notifications and communication. They provide quick access to calls, messages, and app alerts.

While that’s definitely convenient, it often overlaps with smartphone usage, which might make it redundant for those already accustomed to checking their phones regularly.

Productivity and Entertainment

Smartwatches also cater to productivity and entertainment needs. You can use them to set timers, wake voice assistants, or even play some games.

LTE-equipped smartwatches model takes this convenience further by enabling phone-free activities like streaming music or making calls. However, these added benefits come with a higher price tag.

Last but not least, the smartwatch isn’t just functional—it’s a fashion statement. So most brand offers customizable watch faces, interchangeable straps, and diverse designs to ensure there’s a style to match everyone’s preferences.

Who Benefits Most from a Smartwatch?

The utility of a smartwatch largely depends on individual lifestyles. It’s a great device for fitness enthusiasts and athletes who can benefit from the detailed workout metrics provided by many models.

On the other hand, health-focused users with chronic conditions or who prioritize wellness might find the health-tracking capabilities of smartwatches valuable.

Another niche audience for smartwatches is tech-savvy consumers who are already invested in ecosystems like Apple’s or Samsung’s and appreciate how seamlessly these devices integrate with other gadgets. And for busy professionals, the ability to quickly manage notifications or tasks to streamline their routines makes a smartwatch a practical addition to their toolkit.

2. The Downsides of Smartwatches

Despite these advantages, smartwatches are not without drawbacks. One significant limitation is the battery life.

Premium models from Apple and Samsung which are loaded with health and wellness features require daily or bi-daily charging. And this could be inconvenient for users accustomed to traditional watches that last months or years on a single battery.

Cost is another factor, as high-end smartwatches are priced comparably to smartphones. Budget models, on the other hand, often compromise on durability and features. Additionally, there is a learning curve for less tech-savvy users to optimize smartwatch functionality.

Durability is also a concern. Unlike traditional watches, smartwatches are more prone to scratches, damage, and obsolescence. Their lifespan is also tied to software support, which often lasts only 4-5 years.

Most important of all, exclusivity is one of the major drawbacks, especially of Apple and WearOS smartwatches. That is, the Apple Watch isn’t compatible with Android phones, and WearOS watches don’t work with Apple smartphones.

3. What About the Alternatives?

For individuals who find smartwatches excessive, there are alternatives you can consider. Fitness trackers like the Fitbit Inspire or Xiaomi Band cater to fitness-focused users without the additional features of a smartwatch.

There are also hybrid watches from brands like Withings and Garmin that combine traditional aesthetics with basic smart functionalities. Such models often have great battery life.

And for niche needs who want pinpoint accuracy from their devices, be it in terms of navigation or heath-tracking, going with standalone GPS units or medical-grade health monitors might be more suitable.

4. Are They Worth It for You?

To decide if a smartwatch is worth it, ask yourself:

  • How much do I value fitness and health tracking? If you already use a fitness tracker or don’t engage in activities where these metrics matter, a smartwatch may not add much value.
  • Am I comfortable with regular charging and updates? A smartwatch requires more upkeep than a traditional watch, from software updates to daily charging routines.
  • Does it fit within my budget? Spending $200-$800 on a smartwatch is a commitment. Alternatives might achieve similar outcomes for a fraction of the cost.

5. Final Thoughts

Smartwatches aren’t a one-size-fits-all solution. They offer versatility and have compelling use cases, but they’re not essential for everyone. Fitness enthusiasts, health-conscious users, and tech-savvy individuals may find them valuable, while others may be perfectly satisfied with their smartphones or simpler devices.

The key is to consider your lifestyle and priorities in relation to the cost and functionality of a smartwatch. For some, it’s a game-changer; for others, it’s an expensive accessory. Either way, it’s important to assess whether this blend of tech and convenience aligns with what you truly need.

2. OnePlus 13: Camera-Focused Flagship

The OnePlus 13 features the same Snapdragon 8 Elite processor as the iQOO 13 but focuses more on camera performance. Here’s what the OnePlus 13 brings to the table:

  • Top-Notch Camera System: The OnePlus 13 boasts a 32-megapixel Sony IMX615 camera for selfies. On the back, it features a 50-megapixel (Sony LYT-808, OIS) main sensor, a 50-megapixel (Samsung JN5, ultra-wide), and a 50-megapixel (LYT-600, 3x periscope telephoto, OIS). Hasselblad camera optimizations further enhance the photography experience.
  • Smooth and Vivid Display: The OnePlus 13 has a slightly larger 6.82-inch OLED panel with a micro-quad-curved design, offering a 2K resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. While the iQOO 13 has a flat 1.5K display, the OnePlus 13’s curved screen might appeal to those looking for a more premium feel.
  • Flagship Performance: Both phones are powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, LPDDR5x RAM, and UFS 4.0 storage, so performance on both is likely to be nearly identical.
  • Long-Lasting Battery: The OnePlus 13 is equipped with a 6,000mAh battery and 100W fast charging support, slightly smaller than the iQOO 13’s battery. However, it stands out with 50W magnetic wireless charging support.
  • Other Key Features: Like the iQOO 13, the OnePlus 13 features an alert slider, an ultrasonic in-screen fingerprint sensor, a metal middle frame and an IP68 rating. OnePlus also promises five years of OS upgrades and seven years of security patches, potentially providing longer software support than the iQOO 13.

3. Key Differences and Considerations:

  • Camera System: While both phones offer impressive camera setups, the OnePlus 13 edges out with its Hasselblad-tuned cameras, a periscope telephoto lens for greater zoom capabilities, and a higher-resolution selfie camera.
  • Display: The iQOO 13 offers a flat OLED display with a 144Hz refresh rate, ideal for gamers. The OnePlus 13 has a slightly larger, curved OLED display with a 2K resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate, potentially offering a more immersive multimedia experience.
  • Battery and Charging: The iQOO 13 packs a slightly larger battery and faster wired charging. However, the OnePlus 13 supports wireless charging, including magnetic wireless charging.
  • Software Updates: While both offer extended software support, OnePlus historically provides longer updates, including more OS upgrades and security patches.
  • Design and Extras: iQOO 13 features a unique RGB-lit halo light system around the camera island and an ultrasonic in-screen fingerprint scanner. OnePlus 13 boasts a more understated design with a micro-curved display.

4. Buy the iQOO 13 if:

  • You prioritize raw performance and gaming. The Snapdragon 8 Elite chip, coupled with the Q2 supercomputing chip and 144Hz refresh rate, ensures a smooth and responsive gaming experience.
  • You prefer a flat display. Flat displays can offer better usability for gaming and reduce accidental touches.
  • You need a bigger battery with faster wired charging. The 120W fast charging on the iQOO 13 will top up your battery quicker than the OnePlus 13’s 100W charging. Moreover, it promises to last longer than the OP13 thanks to the inclusion of a slightly bigger battery.
  • You want a more affordable option. The iQOO 13 comes with a lower starting price compared to the expected price of the OnePlus 13. The OnePlus 12 was priced at Rs 64,999 (~$765) in India. So, it is likely that the OP13 may hit the market with a similar pricing.

5. Buy the OnePlus 13 if:

  • Camera quality is your top priority. The Hasselblad-tuned cameras, periscope telephoto lens, and higher-resolution selfie camera promise a superior photography experience.
  • You prefer a curved display with a higher resolution. The OnePlus 13’s 2K curved display offers a more immersive viewing experience for multimedia content.
  • Wireless charging is essential for you. The OnePlus 13 supports both wired and wireless charging, offering more flexibility.
  • You want longer software support. OnePlus has a track record of providing extended software updates, including more OS upgrades and security patches.
