POCO X7 Neo Indian variant spotted on Geekbench with unexpectedly low RAM

POCO seems almost ready to introduce its latest smartphone, the POCO X7 Neo, to the Indian market. Now the phone has surfaced on Geekbench showcasing the performance ahead of launch. The listing also provides a glimpse of the X7 Neo’s performance and specifications.

The device scored 943 points in the single-core test and 2,247 points in the multi-core test. These scores suggest that the phone will be capable of handling day-to-day tasks with ease, including multitasking and moderate gaming. The listing also reveals 6GB of RAM and Android 14 (however, there could be higher RAM variants), with the possibility of an updated interface—HyperOS—based on this latest Android version. For context, the Poco X6 Neo comes with an optional 8GB or 12GB RAM. The Redmi Note 14, which is expected to be rebranded as the Poco X7 Neo, also offers 8GB RAM.

Moving on to the chipset, the Geekbench listing hints that the POCO X7 Neo will likely feature a powerful yet efficient MediaTek chipset. The exact SoC remains unconfirmed. However, the core architecture and clock speeds suggest that it could be the MediaTek Dimensity 7025 Ultra.

The chip features a 6+2 core configuration, with six efficiency cores running at 2.0GHz and two high-performance cores clocked at 2.50GHz. This architecture aligns with the Dimensity 7025 Ultra found in the Redmi Note 14, which the company has just launched in India. The GPU mentioned in the listing is the PowerVR B-Series BXM-8-256, which should be capable of handling graphics-intensive tasks with decent performance.

While the POCO X7 Neo shares many similarities with the Redmi Note 14 5G, POCO might offer slight differences to differentiate its device, much like it did with the POCO X6 Neo, which was an affordable variant of the Redmi Note 13 5G. To give you an idea of what to expect, the recently launched Redmi Note 14 features a 6.67-inch AMOLED display, a 5110 mAh battery, and 45W fast charging. These specs would make it a strong contender in the mid-range smartphone market.

The Poco X7 Neo was launched back in March this year and the successor is also expected to launch around the same time. As the launch date approaches, more details about the phone are expected to emerge.

OnePlus has begun rolling out its latest Android 15-based OxygenOS 15 update for the OnePlus 11, its second major update as it launched with Android 13 onboard. It is expected to receive at least two more Android versions in the future.

All that is known about Xiaomi’s new YU7 all-electric SUV

If you’re into electric vehicles, you’ve likely heard about Xiaomi‘s foray into the automotive world with the SU7 sedan. Now, the Chinese tech giant is upping its game by introducing the YU7, an all-electric SUV that’s set to hit the market in the summer of 2025.

The YU7 was unveiled quite literally under the regulatory spotlight. As part of the homologation process with China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), Xiaomi had to reveal key specs and the first official images of the YU7.

It’s a process that often irks automakers because it spills the beans on models before they’re ready to be officially launched, but for us, it’s a treasure trove of information. Here’s what we know about the YU7.

1. Design and build

It’s an all-electric SUV, stretching to 4,999 mm in length, 1,996 mm in width, and standing 1,600 mm tall, with a wheelbase of 3,000 mm. This model isn’t playing around in terms of power either. It’s equipped with dual electric motors — one at the front with 220 kW and another at the rear with 288 kW, offering a combined output of 508 kW or 681 hp. That’s enough to push this SUV to a top speed of 253 km/h, which is quite the performance for an SUV.

The energy for the SUV comes from a lithium NMC battery supplied by CATL, though specifics on the battery’s capacity are still under wraps. Given Xiaomi’s partnership with CATL, we can expect some impressive range figures, although exact numbers will have to wait until closer to the launch.

Design-wise, the YU7 resembles the sleek aesthetics of the SU7 sedan. The YU7’s design has been teased with images shared by Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun on Weibo which shows a vehicle that’s both sporty and modern.

2. Building on Success

The YU7 will be another offering from Xiaomi that will build on the success of the SU7 sedan. Launch in March for a starting price of 215,900 yuan (around $29,700), it has already surpassed 100,000 deliveries by mid-November 2024. And Xiaomi is aiming for 130,000 units by year’s end.

The SU7 was not only a commercial success, it also garnered praise from unexpected quarters. Ford CEO Jim Farley was so impressed after driving an SU7 that he reportedly didn’t want to return it.

3. Xiaomi YU7 has competitors to succeed

Unlike the SU7 which is a sedan, the upcoming YU7 will dive into a different arena — the burgeoning electric SUV market in China, where it will directly challenge the likes of Tesla’s Model Y.

The Model Y starts at 249,900 yuan in China, so it’s likely that Xiaomi will keep its price close to Tesla’s offering.

Interestingly, despite the homologation revealing all, Xiaomi has decided to keep the YU7 under wraps. However, the CEO has confirmed that the launch will happen in June or July 2025.

This timeline might seem a bit delayed given the regulatory clearance, but Lei Jun sees this as an opportunity for extended testing. He mentioned in a Weibo post that removing the camouflage early would allow for more “comprehensive, detailed, long-term and large-scale testing” to ensure the vehicle’s quality.

4. Context in the Tech-Driven Car Race

Xiaomi’s progress in the EV space is particularly noteworthy, especially compared to tech giants like Apple and Sony. Apple’s long-rumored car project has yet to yield tangible results, and reports suggest the company has scaled back its ambitions.

On the other hand, Sony has partnered with Honda to develop the Afeela EV, expected to debut in the coming years.

Xiaomi, however, has moved faster, with the SU7 and now the YU7 marking tangible entries into the market. Xiaomi isn’t alone either, though. It has teamed up with CATL for batteries and BAIC for manufacturing.

5. Challenges Ahead

Xiaomi has stiff competition in the EV market. Tesla is a dominant player, not just globally but also in China, where the Model Y SUV is among its top sellers. Then there are domestic rivals like BYD and Nio which have their own offering of performance-oriented electric SUVs.

So for Xiaomi, the price of the YU7 will be a crucial factor. Xiaomi has a history of undercutting competitors in the smartphone market, but building EVs is inherently more expensive, and achieving competitive pricing while maintaining quality will be another challenge for the brand.

Samsung to deploy Exynos 2500 in premium foldables

Despite these advancements, the Exynos 2500 will not feature in the forthcoming Galaxy S25 series. Instead, Samsung is set to integrate this powerful SoC into its premium foldable lineup, specifically the upcoming Galaxy Z Flip 7 and potentially the Galaxy Z Flip FE models.

According to reports from Korea’s Chosun Ilbo, the Exynos 2500, developed by Samsung’s System LSI division and manufactured by Samsung Foundry, faced initial production challenges due to low yield rates. These hurdles led to the decision to exclude the Exynos 2500 from the Galaxy S25 series, where performance expectations are particularly high.

The performance gap between the Exynos 2500 and Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite further influenced this strategic move, ensuring that Samsung maintains its flagship performance standards by continuing to utilize Snapdragon chips for the Galaxy S25.

Instead, Samsung is channeling its efforts into revitalizing its in-house processor business by equipping the next-generation Galaxy Z Flip 7 and the anticipated Galaxy Z Flip FE with the Exynos 2500. This marks a significant shift, as previous Galaxy Z Flip models exclusively featured Snapdragon chipsets.

With a more affordable Exynos 2500 chip, Samsung could potentially achieve a starting price point significantly lower than the current Z Flip models. This could be a major step in making foldable phones more accessible to a wider audience.

The report also says that internal tensions between Samsung’s Foundry and System LSI divisions over the Exynos 2500’s production delays have reportedly been resolved, fostering better collaboration and paving the way for stable mass production slated for 2025.

According to a senior Samsung official who remains anonymous, “The 3nm second-generation GAA process has overcome significant challenges, and we are now poised to commence mass production. While supply constraints prevent us from equipping the Galaxy S25 series with Exynos 2500, our premium Z Flip models will fully leverage its capabilities.”

Looking ahead, Samsung plans to launch the Galaxy S25 series in January next year, followed by the next generation of foldable phones in the third quarter. The Galaxy Z Flip 7 is expected to feature a slimmer design with a larger display, while the Galaxy Z Flip FE may offer a more affordable option without compromising on performance.

However, the company might release the base Vivo X200 with a 65,999 INR starting price (roughly 777 US Dollars). In other words, the Indian variant is noticeably more expensive in the Indian market.

POCO X7 global version appears on Geekbench with 12GB RAM, launch imminent

The POCO X7, the successor to the POCO X6, seems to be on the verge of an official launch as it has recently appeared on Geekbench, revealing key details about the upcoming smartphone. The POCO X-series is known for offering value-for-money devices with impressive specifications, and the X7 is expected to continue that tradition.

POCO X7 details from Geekbench listing

As per the listing spotted by 91mobiles, the POCO X7 has been assigned the model number 24095PCADG, which was also seen in a previous NBTC certification. The Geekbench listing reveals some important specifications and performance scores for the device. In the benchmark test, the POCO X7 scored 1029 in the single-core round and 2901 in the multi-core test, which is fairly comparable to its predecessor, the POCO X6, which scored 1025 and 2951 in the respective tests.

The listing also reveals that the POCO X7 will run Android 14 OS out of the box and will be equipped with 11.17GB (12GB) of RAM, with potential for other RAM options at launch. While the exact chipset details remain unlisted, the Poco X7 was previously reported to pack specifications similar to the Redmi Note 14 Pro. It means the Poco device could be powered by the Dimensity 7300 Ultra. The (4+4) core architecture also suggests the same.

What else to expect from the POCO X7?

The phone is also expected to share its camera setup with the Redmi Note 14 Pro variant released in China. This could include a 50MP IMX882 main camera with Optical Image Stabilization (OIS), an 8MP Sony IMX355 ultra-wide camera, and a 2MP macro sensor. For selfies, the POCO X7 may feature a 20MP front-facing camera.

The POCO X7 will likely sport a 6.67-inch AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and FHD+ 1.5K resolution, similar to the Redmi Note 14 Pro. A robust 5,500mAh battery with 45W fast charging support is expected to power the device. The phone is expected to launch around the same time as its predecessor, which debuted in India in January 2024.

While the technology has made strides globally, TECNO recognizes the importance of catering to region-specific needs, particularly in Saudi Arabia, where skin tones range from pale to dark brown and olive. This collaboration with academic institutions aims to expand the skin tone database, particularly for Saudi Arabia, ensuring that TECNO’s devices deliver a more accurate and representative imaging experience for local users.

The research team leading this development includes Professor Kaida Xiao, a renowned expert in color and imaging science in the School of Design at the University of Leeds, and Professor Ahmed Nasseraldin from Dar Al-Hekma University. Their combined expertise will help TECNO build a more comprehensive skin tone database for the Saudi market. By gathering and analyzing a diverse set of skin tones specific to the region, TECNO will refine its Universal Tone technology to better reflect the local population’s unique complexions.

An essential part of this collaboration will be the creation of new skin tone patches designed for Saudi Arabia. These patches will expand TECNO’s existing global database of 268, ensuring that the brand’s devices reflect local skin tones with greater accuracy. The partnership will also focus on fine-tuning TECNO’s imaging algorithms to adapt to the specific nuances of Saudi skin tones, further enhancing the technology’s precision.

The collaboration is part of TECNO’s broader strategy of “Glocalization,” which tailors global innovations to meet regional needs. TECNO has previously worked with academic institutions like NTU Singapore to address the aesthetic preferences of Southeast Asia, further underscoring the company’s commitment to inclusive imaging technologies.
