The Surprising Reason Why Sony PS5 Pro Won’t Launch in India Soon

Back in September 2024, Sony officially announced the PlayStation 5 Pro with enhanced performance and improved ray tracing. The brand’s latest gaming console just recently went on sale in several countries. However, it seems its Indian release might still be a while away. So here’s the surprising reason why the PS5 Pro’s launch was delayed in India.

India Misses out on Sony PS5 Pro Launch: Here’s Why

The Japanese tech giant has delayed the launch of the PS5 Pro due to a regulatory issue in India and various other countries. To recall. the PlayStation 5 Pro arrives with the latest Wi-Fi 7 standard (IEEE 802.11be). This new connectivity technology helps make download speeds faster, improving the online gaming experience overall. But this new tech operates in the 6GHz wireless band, which offers wider channels and less interference compared to its predecessors.

Sony PS5 Pro
Sony PS5 Pro

Unfortunately, India and certain other countries have yet to approve this new WiFi standard. Due to this minor regulatory hurdle, Sony has pushed back the PS5 Pro launch. Unlike the global market, the launch of the latest PlayStation in India is not near. So until the Indian government approves Wi-Fi 7 technology, gamers in the region might have to buy the new console from abroad. This delay has disappointed fans and those eager to buy the new console.

Oddly enough, there are various smartphones that support WiFi 7, which launched in India. Although, these models only supported Wi-Fi 6E and Wi-Fi 6. Sony could follow a similar strategy to launch the PS5 Pro in India soon. As of right now, it is still unclear when the company will launch the PS5 Pro in India. The company has yet to make any official announcement, so stick around for more as we will be providing updates when additional information is available regarding this matter.

This early access update is a beta rollout, meaning Realme GT 6 users can get an initial taste of Android 15 features and Realme’s custom UI enhancements, though they may encounter some bugs, as is typical in beta phases.

Early access update details

Realme’s proprietary Realme UI 6.0 integrates Android 15’s core functionalities while adding features unique to Realme. In this early access phase, applications are open in batches with limited seats, allowing Realme GT 6 users in India who are interested in beta testing to apply for access.

To qualify, devices must not be rooted, have 15GB of free storage, and at least 60% battery. They should also be updated to the latest version, RMX3851_14.0.1.614(EX01), to ensure compatibility.

To join the program, users need to enable Developer Mode, accessible by navigating to Settings > About device > Version > Version number and tapping the version number seven times. Luxury or Gimmick? The Weirdest Smartphone Colors and Back Designs of 2024

2024 has been a bold year for smartphone designs, as brands took risks with experimental backs and color schemes that range from intriguing to downright bizarre. While some innovations push the envelope with stylish sophistication, others seem to border on impractical aesthetics. Here’s a look at some of the quirkiest smartphone backs and colors of the year, along with what they might imply for the evolving smartphone market.

1. Xiaomi 15 Diamond Limited Edition

Xiaomi 15 Diamond Limited Edition

Xiaomi pushed luxury to new heights with its limited edition, the Xiaomi 15 Diamond Edition. The back of this model features crocodile-grain leather and a real 57-facet diamond embedded on the side, targeting those with a taste for the extravagant. Available in Elephant Grey, Orange, and Glacier White, this phone undeniably stands out.

However, some might feel that embedding an actual diamond on a smartphone could come off as over-the-top. And while the opulent look is impressive, it raises questions about practicality. Will it really appeal to everyday users, or is it just a trophy piece for collectors? It certainly created a memorable moment for one Xiaomi fan, who recently used it to propose to his girlfriend.

2. CMF Phone 1

CMF (an offshoot brand of Nothing) introduced CMF Phone 1, which comes with a vegan leather back available in Light Green, Blue (India only), and Orange. Users can swap these back covers or attach accessories like a fold-out stand or cardholder. Though the customization and sustainable materials sound appealing, the lack of Nothing’s signature Glyph interface might make it feel incomplete for those familiar with the original Nothing lineup. In many ways, it feels like a starter kit for unique designs rather than a complete product.

3. Tecno Pova 6 Pro

Tecno’s Pova 6 Pro introduces a back cover embedded with 210 Mini-LEDs capable of producing eye-catching ring and propeller-shaped light effects. With up to 101 user-defined lighting scenarios, the device practically doubles as a mini rave light. However, these flashy lights might appeal to a niche audience, primarily gamers or young users. For regular users, it might simply add unnecessary weight and battery drain. The lighting effects, though novel, make it difficult to see how it enhances the device’s practical appeal beyond the gimmick.

4. Nothing Phone (2a) Plus Community Edition

The Nothing Phone (2a) Plus Community Edition incorporates green-tinted phosphorescent materials on its back, allowing it to emit a soft glow in the dark. The design is supposedly inspired by fireflies and the idea of finding light in darkness, symbolizing community connections.

However, while this aesthetic may resonate with fans of Nothing’s minimalistic design language, it seems more fitting as a novelty rather than a daily-use feature. This glow-in-the-dark element could become unnecessary for those not enthusiastic about luminescent phones, leaving some to wonder if this was more about creative experimentation than functional innovation.

5. Xiaomi 15 Liquid Silver Color

Xiaomi 15 Liquid Silver Color

Another striking addition to the Xiaomi lineup is the Liquid Silver edition of the Xiaomi 15 and Xiaomi 15 Pro. It features a unique ripple effect that shimmers when caught in the right light.

While this silver variant feels modern and sleek, the reflective surface may not appeal to everyone due to fingerprint smudges and increased slipperiness. Additionally, it’s likely to be a dust magnet, which could detract from its overall aesthetic appeal. For a color that is supposed to add sophistication, this choice might end up being high-maintenance.

6. Are These Designs the Future?

With designs like these, it’s clear that brands are willing to try new, sometimes unconventional, aesthetics to capture consumer attention. While these experimental back designs and colors show innovation, they also hint at potential downsides. As brands strive to balance form and function, it remains to be seen if these designs will inspire a new generation of stylish smartphones or end up as a mere flash in the pan.

Ultimately, the eccentricities of 2024’s smartphone backs remind us that while a touch of luxury, customization, and creativity can be exciting, these additions can sometimes compromise the practicality and user experience that most users ultimately prioritize. Whether these designs represent progress or gimmickry is up for debate, but one thing’s certain: 2024 has been a visually captivating year in smartphone design.

If you’ve made it this far, check out our take on why rugged cases for smartphones might not be the best choice.

Galaxy S25 Ultra closeup renders showcase the new design and reveal color options

Samsung appears set to make a design pivot for its flagship Galaxy S25 Ultra, moving away from the curved display design that has been a signature of the Ultra series in recent years. The latest renderings shared by Technizo Concept offer a closer look at these design changes and speculate the color options.

S25 Ultra with four color options and a different design language

The new Galaxy S25 Ultra renderings showcase four primary color options: Titanium Black, Titanium Blue, Titanium Gray, and Titanium Silver.

This range marks a small departure from previous rumors, as an earlier leak from ICE Universe suggested colors would include black, green, blue, and “titanium.” For comparison, the Galaxy S24 Ultra came in more vibrant tones like Titanium Orange, Titanium Violet, and Titanium Yellow:

From curved to flat display

One of the biggest shifts highlighted in the renders is the flat design for the display, middle frame, and back. This flat approach contrasts Samsung’s historical preference for curved edges on its top tear flagships, though a trend towards a flatter aesthetic has been seen across the Galaxy S series, especially in the base and Plus models over the last two generations.

On the other hand, the switch to rounded corners, reminiscent of the Galaxy S21 Ultra’s design, likely aims to improve in-hand comfort.

Additionally, the camera cover design appears inspired by the recent Galaxy Z Fold 6.

Dimensions for the Galaxy S25 Ultra suggest it will be slightly slimmer than its predecessor, further enhancing its sleek profile. The device has also appeared on Geekbench recently, identified under model number SM-S938U. Benchmark tests report an impressive single-core score of 3,148 and a multi-core score of 10,236, hinting at significant performance improvements over the S24 Ultra.

In summary, the Galaxy S25 Ultra appears to be a blend of Samsung’s past flagship design cues and forward-thinking innovation. With official announcements yet to come, these renderings give an exciting preview of what the Galaxy S25 Ultra might bring to the table.

Galaxy S25 Slim: Samsung’s answer to the iPhone 17 Slim?

A recent report revealed that the upcoming Samsung S-series will include a new model called the Galaxy S25 Slim, in addition to the Galaxy S25, S25+, and S25 Ultra. Speculation suggests that the S25 Slim will be designed to compete directly with Apple’s rumored iPhone 17 Slim, also known as the iPhone 17 Air in the rumor mill. For those who don’t know, Apple may launch the iPhone 17 Slim as a replacement to the iPhone 17 Plus. But what can we expect from the Galaxy S25 Slim, and how will it stack up against its Apple rival?

1. Sasmung Galaxy S25 Slim: What We Know (or Think We Know) So Far

Details about the Galaxy S25 Slim are still scarce, but here’s what the rumor mill is churning out:

  • Ultra-Slim Profile: The defining feature will undoubtedly be its thinness. Expect a device significantly thinner than the standard Galaxy S25, possibly even rivalling the sleekest smartphones on the market.
  • Lightweight and Premium Buld: Along with thinness comes lightness. The S25 Slim is expected to be incredibly lightweight, making it comfortable for one-handed use and extended periods. Despite its slim profile, Samsung is unlikely to compromise on build quality. Expect a sturdy frame, possibly using a combination of aluminum and glass, with a premium look and feel.
  • High-Refresh-Rate Display: A smooth and responsive display is a staple of Samsung flagships. The S25 Slim will likely feature a Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with a 120Hz refresh rate, offering vibrant colors and buttery-smooth scrolling.
  • Powerful Processor: Samsung typically equips its flagship phones with the latest and greatest processors. The S25 Slim will likely feature the Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy, ensuring top-notch performance for demanding tasks and gaming.
  • Advanced Camera System: A reliable leaker revealed that the Galaxy S25 Slim will feature an “Ultra” camera system. This has given birth to runners that it will have a 200-megapixel primary camera. It could be joined by a 12-megapixel ultra-wide and a 10-megapixel telephoto camera.

2. Competing with the iPhone 17 Slim

If the rumors are true, the Galaxy S25 Slim will go head-to-head with Apple’s iPhone 17 Air (aka. iPhone 17 Slim). Here’s how the two might compare:

  • Design and Build: Both phones are expected to prioritize slimness and lightness. Apple has traditionally excelled in crafting sleek and minimalist designs, while Samsung often opts for bolder aesthetics and curved displays. The S25 Slim might feature a more streamlined design to compete in this arena.
  • Display: Samsung has a strong track record with its AMOLED displays, offering superior color accuracy and higher peak brightness compared to Apple’s OLED panels. On the other hand, the iPhone 17 Air’s display is expected to come integrated with a new display technology called TDDI (Touch and Display Driver Integration). It is said to reduce the thickness of the screen assembly by combining the touch sensor and display driver in a single layer. Speculations are rife that the iPhone 17 Air could be equipped with a 6.4-inch OLED 120Hz panel.
  • Performance: Both phones are expected to utilize powerful processors, offering comparable performance. The Snapdragon 8 Elite-powered S25 Slim could face tough competition from the next-generation A19 chip, which is expected to power the iPhone 17 Air.
  • Camera: As previously mentioned, the Galaxy S25 Slim might come with a 200-megapixel + 12-megapixel + 10-megapixel triple camera unit. In contrast, rumors indicate that the iPhone 17 Air will likely feature a single-lens camera to preserve its slim design.
  • Software and Ecosystem: This is where the two phones diverge significantly. The S25 Slim will run on Android with Samsung’s One UI overlay, offering a feature-rich and customizable experience. The iPhone 17 Slim will run on iOS, known for its simplicity and tight integration with Apple’s ecosystem. The choice ultimately comes down to personal preference.
  • Premium Offering Pricing will be a crucial factor in this battle. Apple’s “Slim” model may arrive with a premium price tag. Samsung might try to undercut Apple with a more competitive price for the S25 Slim, making it a more attractive option for budget-conscious consumers.

3. The Slim Phone Revolution?

The rumored Galaxy S25 Slim and iPhone 17 Slim could mark a shift in the smartphone landscape. While powerful specs and features will always be important, there seems to be a renewed focus on portability and elegance. Consumers are increasingly seeking devices that are both powerful and comfortable to hold and use.

Whether the slim phone trend becomes the new norm remains to be seen. However, with Samsung and Apple reportedly joining the fray, it’s clear that this category is heating up. The Galaxy S25 Slim has the potential to be a strong contender, offering a compelling combination of design, performance, and features.

Readers should note that all of this information is based on leaks and speculation. Neither Samsung nor Apple has officially confirmed the existence of the Galaxy S25 Slim or the iPhone 17 Slim. So, while these rumors are exciting, it is important to digest them with a healthy dose of skepticism until we have concrete evidence.

OnePlus 13 with OxygenOS 15 might be locatable even when it’s powered off

OnePlus may be looking to equip its upcoming global release, the OnePlus 13, with Google’s Powered Off Finding feature. This feature would allow the device to remain locatable through Google’s Find My Device service even when powered off or out of battery.

OnePlus-13

Though Google’s Find My Device service is generally only functional when devices are on, Powered Off Finding extends its usability by powering the Bluetooth chip to broadcast the device’s location even after the phone is turned off. This feature has already been implemented in Google’s latest Pixel models, such as the Pixel 8 and Pixel 9 series, and could debut on the OnePlus 13 thanks to its new Snapdragon 8 Elite platform.

Discoveries in OxygenOS related to the Powered Off Finding feature

This speculation surrounding the OnePlus 13 began when Mishaal Rahman from Android Authority noticed a line in the OxygenOS 15 beta changelog – “You can now locate your device even when it’s switched off, improving the likelihood of retrieving it if lost.”

However, this mention was removed from the stable version. While the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 on the OnePlus 12 does not support Powered Off Finding, the newer Snapdragon 8 Elite platform on the OnePlus 13 does. Qualcomm executive has confirmed that the FastConnect 7900, which is used within this platform, supports Powered Off Finding, but it’s ultimately up to device manufacturers to enable this feature.

Given that OnePlus referenced the feature in the OxygenOS 15 beta, it’s likely that OnePlus intends to integrate this capability in the global version of the OnePlus 13 that will run on OxygenOS 15. If the OnePlus 13 includes Powered Off Finding, it would bring added peace of mind to users, knowing they can track the device even if it’s turned off.

What to expect from the OnePlus 13’s global launch

The OnePlus 13 has already been launched in China, revealing a range of exciting specs that position it as a top-tier flagship. To power the Snapdragon 8 Elite chip, the device packs a sizable 6,000mAh battery yet, maintains a streamlined, lightweight design.

OnePlus-13-unboxing

Camera improvements are also a highlight, with the OnePlus 13 featuring a 50MP triple-lens setup – Sony LYT-808 nain sensor, LYT-600 3X telephoto, and a 120-degree ultrawide – which is paired with Oppo Find X8 series’ new and improved image processing system. Additionally, the OxygenOS 15 interface promises an optimized user experience, enhanced by AI-powered features and system refinements aimed at boosting performance and efficiency.

Recent reports reveal that the Vivo X200 series will be launching soon globally, having received approval in multiple markets. Malaysia seems poised to be one of the first to receive the new series, as the company has already started teasing it there. Below is the official teaser released by the brand.

Vivo X200 series’ Malaysian launch officially teased

Vivo X200 series Malaysia launch
Vivo X200 series’ Malaysia launch

As can be seen above, the Vivo X200 series reveals that it will be “coming soon” to Malaysia. This suggests that it may launch this month in the country. The Vivo X200 and X200 Pro were recently spotted in the database of the country’s SIRIM certification platform.

The Bluetooth SIG and certification platforms in India, Indonesia, and Europe, among others, have also approved the two devices. The Vivo X200 Pro Mini, a compact flagship phone, is also a part of the X200 series available in China. However, the Mini model has not appeared on certification platforms outside of China, which indicates that it may remain confined to the home market. Here’s a look at the specifications of the X200 and X200 Pro.

Vivo X200, X200 Pro specifications

The Vivo X200 features a 6.67-inch OLED 8T LTPS micro-quad-curved screen with a 1.5K resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate, 4500nits peak brightness, 2160Hz PWM dimming, and an optical in-display fingerprint sensor. On the other hand, the Pro variant has a slightly larger 6.78-inch OLED 8T LTPO micro-quad-curved screen with the same specifications and an ultrasonic in-screen fingerprint sensor. The Dimensity 9400 chipset, LPDDR5x RAM, and UFS 4.0 power both phones. The X200 has a 5,800mAh battery, whereas the Pro model packs a 6,000mAh battery. Both phones support 90W wired charging, whereas the Pro version also offers 30W wireless charging.

For selfies, the Vivo X200 and X200 Pro feature a 32-megapixel Samsung S5KKD1 front camera. The standard model has an OIS-enabled 50-megapixel Sony IMX921 main camera, a 50-megapixel Samsung JN1 ultra-wide, and a 50-megapixel LYT-600 3x periscope with OIS.

The X200 Pro’s rear camera setup has a 50-megapixel LYT-818 main camera with OIS, a 200-megapixel Samsung S5KHP9 3.7x periscope with OIS, and the same ultra-wide lens. The X200 series has other features, such as FunTouch OS 15-based Android 15, dual speakers, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, NFC, IR blaster, an x-axis linear motor, a USB-C port (USB Gen 3.2 only on Pro), and an IP68/69-rated chassis.

Explained: Xiaomi 15 and its 28 Colors

The Xiaomi 15 recently went official in China. The company’s latest base flagship improves upon its predecessor with spec upgrades and design changes while retaining the compact form factor.

The base Xiaomi flagship is positioned as an alternative to base iPhone and Galaxy S since the 13th gen model. This time around, it has a Chinese competitor in the form of Vivo X200 Pro Mini.

However, unlike any of the aforementioned products, the Xiaomi 15 is offered in a whopping 28 color options. There’s no other phone on the market with these many options.

So what are these colors and how can you buy one of your choice? Let’s find out in this article.

1. Standard Colors

Xiaomi 15 Standard Colors

The Xiaomi 15 comes in 4 standard colors. These are White, Black, Green, and Purple.

These are lighter shades and do not stand out compared to other colors. However, these are the original colors of the phone and will be available in higher quantities.

Additionally, there’s also a 5th standard color called Liquid Silver. This color is inspired by the Mi 6 Mercury Silver Edition.

Though it sounds like a limited color, Xiaomi has listed it in the standard section. Thus, we believe there could be more units of it.

2. Diamond Limited Edition Colors

Xiaomi 15 Diamond Limited Edition

This version of Xiaomi 15 will more likely be in limited supply. As the name suggests, it actually has an eco-cultivated 57-facet diamond embedded on its side.

Whereas the back panel is made of nano-tech vegan leather with a crocodile scale-like texture. The product comes in 3 colors, namely White, Gray, and Orange. The camera island is also complemented with a silver sparkling texture.

The handset ships with a matching cardholder and passport holder made of the same material as its rear.

3. Custom Edition Colors

Xiaomi 15 Custom Edition

This variant of Xiaomi 15 is akin to Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip Bespoke Edition. Customers can choose from 20 different colors.

The primary colors include Pink, Green, Red, Blue, Orange, and Purple. The other hues are variations of these.

The chosen color can be further paired with either a silver or black frame. So theoretically, there are 40 combinations to choose from.

This version of the smartphone is exclusive to Xiaomi’s official online store. Unsurprisingly, the shipping time should be longer for it.

4. Global Availability

Xiaomi is not known to release all colors outside mainland China. We expect the same for Xiaomi 15 whenever it hits overseas markets.

In fact, not all standard colors may reach every market, let alone the limited edition. Even if the company decides to launch other colors, they should be available in a limited fashion in select regions.

So the only way to get the desired variant outside China is by importing via a known person or reseller.

Huawei Pura 80 series launch timeframe, advanced periscope telephoto camera tipped

Huawei’s P-series of flagship phones are known for offering a remarkable photography experience. Earlier this year, the company rebranded its P-series by launching the Pura 70 series instead of the P70 lineup. While the brand is currently working on the launch of the Mate 70 series, which is expected to debut later this month, a new leak by tipster Digtial Chat Station has spilt new details about the Pura 80 series.

Huawei Pura 80 series’ initial details leaked

The Pura 80 series is set to stand out with its advanced periscope telephoto lens, marking a significant upgrade from previous models. This new addition is expected to offer users unparalleled zoom capabilities. The tipster further revealed that the Pura 80 lineup will be announced in the second quarter of 2025.

The Pura 70 series had previously garnered attention with its one-inch retractable lens, which significantly improved image quality and maintained a sleek, lightweight design. Building on the success of the Pura 70 series, which was celebrated for its ultra-high-speed shooting and super light-gathering macro telephoto capabilities, the Pura 80 series is expected to continue this legacy with additional features that promise even better camera performance.

According to the recent leaks, the Pura 80 series will utilize the top-tier OmniVision OV50X sensor. This sensor is renowned for its large photosensitive area and LOFIC technology, which ensures better light detail capture in high-brightness scenes. This means that photos taken with the Pura 80 series will have more accurate lighting and color representation, closely mirroring real-life visuals.

Huawei’s commitment to innovation in imaging technology is evident in both the Pura 70 and 80 series. By integrating ultra-high-speed shooting, advanced macro capabilities, and the new periscope telephoto lens, Huawei aims to provide users with a superior photography experience. Like the Pura 70 series, the next-generation Pura series may include the Pura 80, Pura 80 Pro, Pura 80 Pro+, and Pura 80 Ultra.

Oppo Find X8 Ultra display, camera details tipped again while X8, X8 Pro’s global launch nears

Oppo has recently launched the Find X8 and Find X8 Pro smartphones in China. The Dimensity 9400-powered flagship phones are expected to debut in other markets later this month. Meanwhile, the brand is also said to be working on the Find X8 Ultra model for the Chinese market. While it is expected to debut in January 2025, the rumor mill has already been leaking details about it. Today, tipster Digital Chat Station released a new Weibo post to share some details about the display and cameras of the Ultra variant.

Oppo Find X8 Ultra’s display and camera details tipped

As can be seen in the above screenshot, the tipster is seen talking about a forthcoming Snapdragon 8 Elite (SM8750)-powered smartphone. While he has not specified the name of the phone, it is evident that he could be talking about the Find X8 Ultra as he has mentioned that the said is equipped with a Hasselblad camera system.

According to the tipster, the engineering prototype of the Find X8 Ultra features a micro-quad-curved screen. It has a 6.82-inch BOE X2 LTPO OLED panel that offers a 2K+ resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. Likely, it could be equipped with the same display that’s available on the OnePlus 13.

He revealed that the X8 Ultra’s camera system remains unchanged, featuring a one-inch primary camera, a pair of periscope telephoto lenses with minor focal length variations. The same source revealed in a previous leak that the X8 Ultra has 3x and 6x periscope telephoto cameras. Additionally, a Hasselblad multi-spectral sensor has been added. The X8 Ultra will also have a single-point ultrasonic fingerprint sensor and an IP68/69 rating for water and dust resistance.

The X8 Ultra is expected to face competition from the Galaxy S25 Ultra, the Honor Magic 7 Ultimate, the Xiaomi 15 Ultra, and the Vivo X200 Ultra. While the X8 and X8 Pro will be released globally, there’s no clarity on whether the X8 Ultra will be released outside of China. As far as the Chinese market is concerned, the company is also expected to announce the Find X8 Mini handset alongside the Ultra model in January 2025.

Huawei Mate 70 Pro leak reveals 6.88-inch display, around 6000mAh battery

Following leaks detailing the standard Mate 70, reliable tech leaker Digital Chat Station has shed light on specifications for the Pro variant. The leak reveals details on the phone’s display, camera, battery, and more.

Huawei Mate 70 Pro Specifications

The Pro model is expected to feature a large, curved LTPO display measuring 6.88 inches in size, and 1.5K in resolution with a smooth 120Hz refresh rate and 3D ToF technology for secure facial recognition.

For added security, the Mate 70 Pro is expected to have an ultrasonic in-display fingerprint sensor, which should offer improved security and durability compared to the Mate 60 Pro‘s optical solution.

The camera system on the Pro model appears particularly noteworthy. The leak suggests a 50MP main sensor with a large 1/1.3-inch size and a variable aperture. The main lens is said to utilize either OV50H or the newer OV50K40. The latter is the first smartphone camera sensor with TheiaCel technology that leverages the LOFIC capabilities.

Beyond the main sensor, a significant upgrade could be coming to the telephoto capabilities. The Mate 70 Pro might employ a 50MP periscope lens with a 1/2.5-inch sensor, offering 3.5x optical zoom and a dedicated telephoto macro mode. It would be a step up from the Mate 60 Pro’s 48MP periscope camera.

Additionally, the leak suggests support for both wired and wireless charging, along with water and dust resistance. While the battery capacity is still unknown, DCS hints at a silicon battery with less than 6,000mAh.

It’s worth noting that Digital Chat Station has since deleted the post of the leak. The original post also contains a note stating that the information is sourced from the supply chain and may be inaccurate. So, take these details with a pinch of salt.

Samsung Galaxy A16 5G review: A future-proof budget 5G phone with long-term software support

The Samsung Galaxy A16 5G is designed as an affordable entry into the 5G market, making it an attractive option for users on a budget. Having used the Galaxy A16 5G for a considerable amount of time, I’ve come to understand its place in Samsung’s lineup. Priced at Rs 18,999 (~$225) for the base model, it’s not the cheapest option but certainly among the more budget-friendly 5G devices available in India.

1. Design and Build

Samsung Galaxy A16 5G
Samsung Galaxy A16 5G
  • 164 x 77.9 x 7.9mm | 192 grams
  • IP54 rating
  • Colors: Blue Black, Gold, and Light Green

The Galaxy A16 5G comes in a minimalist white box, lacking any accessories other than a USB Type-C cable and a SIM ejector tool. It’s notable for being free from plastic packaging, a nice eco-conscious touch. In terms of design, it’s a typical Samsung phone. The back features a glossy plastic finish. The phone has a flat frame, rounded corners, and a simple, ergonomic feel that’s easy to hold. The back houses a vertical triple-camera setup, a signature Samsung design element.

There’s a bulge on the right edge that features the volume rocker and a power key. The top edge of the phone has a secondary microphone, while its bottom edge features the main microphone, a USB-C port, and a speaker grille. The SIM slot is placed on the left spine of the device. It is worth noting that the display glass isn’t specified. When it comes to durability, the phone promises IP54-rated dust and water resistance.

2. Display and Audio

Samsung Galaxy A16 5G
Samsung Galaxy A16 5G
  • 6.7-inch AMOLED FHD+ (2340 x 1080p) screen
  • 90Hz refresh rate
  • 800nits peak brightness

One of the highlights of the Galaxy A16 5G is its 6.7-inch Super AMOLED display that supports an FHD+ resolution. It’s bright enough for outdoor use, although it doesn’t get as dazzling as some higher-end phones. The 90Hz refresh rate makes scrolling and animations feel smooth. There’s a selfie camera notch on the screen, which may not be desirable on a sub-Rs 20,000 phone.

One thing to note is that there’s no HDR support, so you won’t get the best experience when streaming HDR content. However, the Widevine L1 certification ensures you can enjoy Full HD streams from platforms like Netflix. The audio output from the single bottom-firing speaker is satisfactory for casual media consumption but lacks depth in music playback due to the absence of stereo speakers.

3. Performance and Software

AnTuTu, Geekbench, CPU Throttle
  • Dimensity 6300
  • LPDDR4x RAM | up to 8GB virtual RAM
  • Variants: 8GB+128GB | 8GB+256GB
  • Android 14 | One UI 6.1.1
  • 5,000mAh battery | 25W charging

While other markets are treated to the Exynos 1330-powered Galaxy A16 5G, the Indian variant ships with the Dimensity 6300. This chip powers smartphones priced between Rs 10,000 and Rs 20,000 from various brands in India, and the Galaxy A16 5G with the Dimensity 6300 promises reliable performance.

Day-to-day tasks like browsing, social media, and light gaming are handled without much trouble. However, I did notice some stuttering and lag when pushing the phone harder with demanding games. Thankfully, the device ships with 8 GB of RAM and up to 256 GB of storage in India. There’s a hybrid SIM slot for adding a microSD card on to the device. The above image shows how the A16 performed on benchmarking platforms.

The 5,000mAh battery comfortably lasts a full day with moderate use. The 25W fast charging is reasonably quick, taking a little over an hour to fully charge the phone. Speaking of software, the Galaxy A16 5G runs Android 14 with One UI 6.1, the latest version of Samsung’s custom Android skin, packed with features. However, the phone lacks some flagship features like Galaxy AI, which is currently only available on Samsung’s flagship offerings.

The major highlight of the A16 5G is its confirmed six years of Android OS upgrades and six years of security updates. This level of software support is almost unheard of in this price segment. It gives me confidence that the A16 5G will stay up-to-date for years to come.

4. Camera and Other Features

Samsung Galaxy A16 5G
Samsung Galaxy A16 5G
  • Front: 13MP GalaxyCore GC13A0
  • Rear: 50MP Samsung S5KJN1 + 5MP SmartSens SC501 + 2MP macro

The camera system on the A16 5G is basic but gets the job done. The 50-megapixel main camera captures decent photos in daylight with good detail and natural colours. However, the dynamic range is limited, and the processing can be a bit aggressive.

The Portrait mode offers a slider to adjust the level of background blur. However, there is no 2x zoom option available in portrait mode. The main camera performs surprisingly well in low-light conditions, capturing good shots as long as there is sufficient light. As far as video recording is concerned, it is capped at 1080p. Interestingly, the phone supports up to 4K recording using the Open Camera app.

The 5-megapixel ultrawide camera samples lack detail and suffer from noticeable distortion at the edges. The 2-megapixel macro camera is more of a novelty than a useful tool. The 13-megapixel selfie camera takes acceptable photos, but don’t expect anything extraordinary.

The Galaxy A16 5G offers good haptics and there is a vibrator intensity option, which allows you to adjust the intensity level. It also comes with support for NFC, which is a nice addition. For security, the device is equipped with a side-facing fingerprint sensor, which functions perfectly.

5. Verdict and Competitors

Samsung Galaxy A16 5G

The Samsung Galaxy A16 5G is a decent choice for budget-minded consumers looking for a 5G device with impressive longevity. Its extended software support ensures years of updates, and the capable processor handles everyday tasks with ease. While the camera system and display may not be best-in-class, they are certainly adequate for the price point. The A16 5G’s strengths lie in its long-term usability and reliable performance, making it a practical option for those seeking a dependable mid-range 5G phone.

Samsung Galaxy A16 5G price in India

The Galaxy A16 5G has arrived in India in the following options:

  • 8GB+128GB: Rs 18,999 (~$225)
  • 8GB+256GB: Rs 21,999 ($260)

In the overcrowded price segment between Rs 17,000 and Rs 23,000, the Galaxy A16 5G faces a lot of competition from the likes of the Motorola Edge 50 Fusion, Moto G85, Realme 13 Pro 5G, Realme 13+ 5G, Realme P2 Pro 5G, iQOO Z9s 5G, Infinix Note 40 Pro+ 5G, HMD Crest Max, and Lava Agni 3 5G, to name a few.

Redmi K80 Pro AnTuTu score revealed, is priced below OnePlus 13, and there is no Redmi K80E

The launch of the Redmi K80 series seems imminent. While Xiaomi hasn’t officially begun teasing the phone yet, a recent live stream on Douyin (China’s TikTok) by Redmi’s General Manager, Wang Teng, has spilled some key details about the upcoming device.

The live video offered a first glimpse of the Redmi K80 Pro’s front design, revealed its AnTuTu benchmark score, and even hinted at its price point.

Redmi K80 Pro Performance and No More “E” Variant

The live stream showcased the Redmi K80 Pro achieving a score of over 3 million points on AnTuTu 10, all while maintaining a room temperature operation with a maximum recorded temperature of 49°C.

The image also hinted at a metal frame for the phone. Interestingly, two other unnamed phones were displayed alongside the K80 Pro, scoring 2.73 million and 2.83 million points respectively. While a respectable performance, the winner is pretty clear here.

Wang Teng also confirmed that the K80 series will leverage the HyperOS 2 system, specifically customized for enhanced gaming performance, improved touch response, and potentially new system animations.

Another noteworthy detail revealed during the stream was the confirmation of a return to the dual flagship strategy for the Redmi K series. This means we’ll see a standard Redmi K80 and a K80 Pro, with no successor to the budget-oriented Redmi K70E.

Redmi K80 Pro Price

Perhaps the most interesting information came in the form of price hints. Wang Teng suggested that the Redmi K80 Pro will offer superior specifications compared to the “yellow” competitor’s 13th model, most likely referencing the iQOO 13. Additionally, he hinted at a price tag lower than the “red” competitor’s 13th model, likely the OnePlus 13.

For context, the iQOO 13 (12GB RAM + 256GB storage) retails for 3999 yuan (approximately USD 559), while the OnePlus 13 starts at 4499 yuan (approximately US 630). So the Redmi K80 Pro could fall below the 4,000 yuan mark.

How Samsung Tablets are Superior to Other Android Tablets

Samsung has been one of the known names in the Android tablet market. Its tablets are known for their impressive displays, sleek design, and much more. So now, here are all the reasons why Samsung tablets are just superior to most other Android tablets.

Samsung Galaxy Tab S10 Series
Samsung Galaxy Tab S10 Ultra

1. High Quality AMOLED Displays

One of the standout features of Samsung tablets is their high-quality AMOLED displays. While not every model, many Samsung tablets are released with bright AMOLED screens. To recall, the South Korean tech giant is a known display maker, especially renowned for its Super AMOLED display technology. These deliver vibrant colors, deep blacks, and much more. So Galaxy Tab S series in particular offer these screens with high resolution panels.

2. Samsung’s Software Experience

Samsung offers a bunch of features that make its tablets more intuitive than the rest. Keeping aside the hardware, the brand builds its Galaxy tablets to cater to both casual and intensive users. It usually offers an ample amount of RAM and storage to handle some light gaming, multitasking, and other kind of apps. There are also other intuitive features like DeX mode. This basically allows your tablet to function as a desktop PC. DeX even enhances multitasking with multiple windows, which isn’t common in other Android tablets.

3. Samsung Ecosystem

Similar to how the iPad exists in the Apple ecosystem, the Samsung Galaxy Tabs also work seamlessly with other Samsung branded products. This includes the Galaxy smartphones, Galaxy notebooks, and others. So you get an interconnected experience that makes it easy to share files, sync notifications, and switch between devices. Samsung tablets also support a wide range of accessories like the S Pen, which provides a high level of precision and versatility for note-taking, drawing, and even video editing. So Galaxy Tabs aren’t meant for more than just entertainment.

4. Conclusion

Samsung has a strong lineup of tablets that range from budget to premium models. While these might not always seem like the best package in terms of hardware, they have an edge with superior displays, well integrated ecosystem, and a strong lineup of accessories. Samsung builds tablets that appeal to both casual users and people that require productivity as well. Earlier this year, the brand dominated the Indian market with a massive 48 percent market share, growing in both the commercial and consumer segments. In every top tablet list, Samsung’s Galaxy Tab A and Tab S series have always been on the list.

If you’re not particularly interested in tablets, you can check out the new Samsung W25 and Samsung S25 Flip series of foldable smartphones, which were just announced in China.
