1. Samsung Galaxy S24 FE vs Galaxy S23 FE: Design & Display

Samsung Galaxy S23 FE features a premium design that consists of a glass back and metallic frame. This returns on the Galaxy S24 FE, which appears quite similar to the older model. So you get a flat rear panel and a flat display on the display. The back has the vertically stacked triple camera setup, while the front houses a center aligned punch hole cutout for the selfie camera. One area where the S23 FE has an edge is its 66 bright color options, namely Mint, Cream, Graphite, Purple, Indigo and Tangerine. In comparison, the S24 FE only comes in some standard Blue, Graphite, Gray, Mint and Yellow.

The Galaxy S23 FE sports a 6.4-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display that offers an FHD+ resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate, and 1450 nits of peak brightness. Before the S24 FE, this screen size was in line with older Samsung Fan Edition smartphones. But the newest entry in the lineup bumps the screen size to match the Galaxy S24+. The Galaxy S24 FE features a 6.69-inch Dynamic ALOMED 2X screen with a 120Hz refresh rate, 1900 nits of peak brightness and FHD+ resolution.

2. Performance

Under the hood, Samsung has equipped both models with its proprietary Exynos processors. The S23 FE packs the Exynos 2200 SoC, which is paired with the Xclipse 940 graphics, up to 8GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage. The chip is an older flagship Exynos chip that powered the Galaxy S22 as well. On the other hand, the Galaxy S24 FE features the Exynos 2400e, which is an underclocked version of the Exynos 2400 that runs the Galaxy S24 lineup. This processor is paired with Xclipse 940 GPU, up to 8GB of RAM, and 256GB of internal storage.

While the S23 FE launched with Android 13 OS, it is currently on the Android 14 OS based One UI 6.1. Samsung ships the Galaxy S24 FE with this same OS and custom skin out of the box. It even arrives with the brand’s new Samsung Galaxy AI. As the name suggests, this is a bunch of AI powered features and functionalities. Like its larger body and taller screen, the Galaxy S24 FE packs a larger 4,700mAh battery pack. This is slightly bigger than the 4,500mAh cell on the S23 FE. Both versions supports 25W wired fast charging, 15W wireless charging, and reverse wireless charging support.

3. Camera

Photography is one area where there is no apparent upgrade between generations. The duo feature a 50-megapixel primary camera along with an 8-megapixel telephoto shooter, and 12-megapixel ultra wide angle lens. For selfies and video calls, the front houses a 10-megapixel sensor.

4. Pricing & Verdict

Samsung released the Galaxy S24 FE with a starting price tag of 49 US Dollars, which marks a 50 US Dollar price hike over the S23 FE’s launch price. The Galaxy S23 FE was already a competent phone and the S24 FE is basically a refresh. You get a taller screen, slightly bigger battery, and faster chipset. It is hard to recommend to users who are looking to upgrade over the older FE model. But for those outside Samsung’s ecosystem and are planning on buying a new phone in this price range, the Galaxy S24 FE is worth looking out for.

For those unfamiliar, a brain-computer interface (BCI) is a device that allows a person to control an external device using their brain signals. It can be used to help people with disabilities, such as paralysis, and can also be used for scientific research.

Synchron’s minimally invasive brain implants, which began clinical trials in 2022, were initially designed to control iPhones and iPads, but have now evolved to control more complex devices such as the Apple Vision Pro.

According to Synchron, six patients who received brain-computer interface implants did not experience serious adverse events related to the device within the first year. In short, the implanted device did not cause any problems and performed stably in capturing brain movement intention signals.

Notably, the COMMAND study is the first FDA-approved trial of a permanently implanted brain-computer interface. Unlike other brain implants that require dangerous, invasive surgery, Synchron’s implant is placed via a minimally invasive endovascular procedure through the jugular vein.

“The results of the COMMAND study mark an important medical milestone, confirming the safety of the Stentrode BCI, with no neurological safety events reported during the 12-month study period,” said Dr. Levy, co-principal investigator of the COMMAND trial and president of UB Neurosurgery (UBNS), in the statement. “This minimally invasive approach has the potential to unlock BCI technology at scale for the millions of patients with paralysis and other mobility impairments.”

The use case

The goal of this implant is to help people who have been paralyzed by causes such as stroke and have severe brain damage to regain a degree of functional independence. The patients participating in the initial trial all reportedly had severe, chronic bilateral upper limb paralysis that was unresponsive to traditional treatments.

In summary, a brain-computer interface can interpret brain signals and translate them into actions needed to operate devices like the Apple‘s devices, allowing users to perform certain tasks even if they are physically unable to do so.

Galaxy S25 Ultra is taking a design cue from four-year-old S21 Ultra

A new leak from the tech tipster Ice Universe reveals an important design change for the upcoming Galaxy S25 Ultra. In a video shared on X (formerly Twitter), the tipster shows a jelly case for the phone with rounded corners on all sides.

Samsung transitioned from a rounded form of the S21 Ultra to a sharper, 90-degree corner with the S22 Ultra and subsequent releases. However, the change wasn’t universally well received by users, who found the squarer design less comfortable to hold.

But it looks like Samsung is finally listening to users feedback and returning to a more ergonomic approach with the S25 Ultra.

The video confirms the presence of noticeably rounded corners on the S25 Ultra case. While not quite as pronounced as the S21 Ultra, it’s noticeably more than the S22 through S24 Ultra. This design should make the phone more comfortable to hold, especially for users who find the sharp corners uncomfortable. 

Beyond the ergonomic shift, the S25 Ultra is also expected to come with thinner bezels that will reportedly be even slimmer than the recently announced iPhone 16 Pro Max. 

We’re unsure about this change, though, as many users have reported accidental touches on the 16 Pro Max due to its slim bezels. With the S25 Ultra likely to have even slimmer bezels, it’s possible that a similar issue could arise for its users as well.

On a positive note, the device may get a trim down in terms of thickness and weight. It is said to measure 8.2mm and weigh 219 grams, down from 8.6mm and 232 grams of weight. It will also have a slightly narrower profile (77.6mm vs. 79.0mm) while keeping the same 5000mAh battery capacity.

Let’s talk about the rest of the specs of the phone, that we know of, of course. 

Unlike previous generations that utilized a mix of Qualcomm Snapdragon and Samsung’s Exynos processors, reports suggest the S25 series will adopt the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 across all models.

The 3C certification reveals the phone will have 45W charging support like its predecessor. It will also come with satellite communication support, a first for any Samsung phone. 

Its camera setup is expected to include the same 200-megapixel primary camera from S24 Ultra, a new 50-megapixel ISOCELL JN3 ultra-wide lens, a new 50-megapixel telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom, and a periscope telephoto camera with 5x optical zoom.

Should you wait for Snapdragon 8 Elite smartphones?

Qualcomm has confirmed that its next-generation flagship chipset (previously dubbed Snapdragon 8 Gen 4) for mobile devices will debut at its annual Snapdragon Summit, taking place from Oct. 21 and Oct. 23. In June 2024, Qualcomm announced the Snapdragon X Elite, a processor designed for Windows laptops. It offers significantly improved AI processing, utilizing an on-chip Neural Processing Unit (NPU) capable of running a generative AI Large Language Model (LLM) at blazing speeds. Recent reports suggest that Qualcomm may change the name of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 to align with its Windows processor lineup; the mobile chipset may be called the Snapdragon 8 Elite. This moniker was spotted in a leaked poster related to the launch date of the Xiaomi 15.

1. Snapdragon 8 Elite specifications

According to reports, the Snapdragon 8 Elite will feature six CPU cores clocked at 3.53GHz and two CPU cores operating at 4.32GHz. For graphics, it will utilize the Adreno 830 GPU, which has a clock speed of 1.1GHz. A recent leak claimed that the Snapdragon 8 Elite could offer around a 46% to 53% improvement in the GPU department compared to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.

Qualcomm recently introduced Snapdragon X80 modem is expected to be part of their upcoming chip. Key features include built-in satellite support (NB-NTN) without additional components, 10% less power usage for mmWave, 30% improved location accuracy, and the ability to combine six 5G carriers for faster speeds. With AI being a significant trend in the smartphone industry, the Snapdragon 8 Elite is expected to arrive with substantial enhancements in this area.

On Geekbench, the upcoming OnePlus 13 has been seen with impressive benchmarking scores, achieving 3,216 in single-core tests and exceeding 10,000 in multi-core tests with a score of 10,051. However, it’s important to note that the Snapdragon 8 Elite name has not been officially confirmed yet.

The Snapdragon 8 Elite is expected to deliver exceptional performance, with significant enhancements in CPU and GPU capabilities, alongside advanced AI processing power that enhances overall device efficiency and user experience.

2. Price Increase

Readers should note that improved performance will also accompany the higher cost, making the Snapdragon 8 Elite a premium offering in the market. According to a recent report, acquiring the Snapdragon 8 Elite from Qualcomm will be costlier for smartphone brands compared to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. The increase is attributed to TSMC’s expensive N3E manufacturing process, with a price hike of about 20% expected. The Snapdragon 8 Elite is anticipated to cost around $190, compared to $152 for the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.

The Snapdragon 8 Elite will compete with MediaTek’s next-generation Dimensity 9400, which is scheduled to launch on October 9. It is speculated that the Dimensity 9400 may also be priced around $155, up from $124 for last year’s Dimensity 9300.

The increase in the price of the Snapdragon 8 Elite suggests that smartphones featuring the new chip will also come with a higher price tag. Last year, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 debuted at a price of 3,999 Yuan (~$570) in China, and the upcoming Snapdragon 8 Elite phones could see a price increase of around 500 Yuan for the base model.

3. Upcoming Snapdragon 8 Elite Phones

The Xiaomi 15 and 15 Pro, expected to launch on October 23, could be the world’s first smartphones featuring the Snapdragon 8 Elite. Other devices anticipated to debut by the end of this month in China include the Honor Magic 7, Magic 7 Pro, Magic 7 Ultimate, Magic 7 RS Porsche Design, OnePlus 13, and iQOO 13.

Next month, some Snapdragon 8 Lite phones are expected to launch in early November to be available for purchase during the Singles’ Day (November 11) shopping festival in China. The Realme GT 7 Pro and Redmi K80 Pro are among the Snapdragon 8 Elite phones expected to be officially launched in early November.

Before the end of this year, the Red Magic 10 series, Nubia Z70 Ultra, and OnePlus Ace 5 Pro are also expected to go official with the Snapdragon 8 Elite chip. Additionally, the new chip will power the Samsung Galaxy S25 lineup, Oppo Find X8 Ultra, Xiaomi 15 Ultra, and Vivo X200 Ultra, which are anticipated to debut in the first quarter of 2025.

4. Snapdragon 8 Elite phones: Should you wait for them?

While several Snapdragon 8 Elite phones are expected to launch in the remaining months of this year in China, the first global Snapdragon 8 Elite phones are anticipated to be released in the first quarter of 2025. It is likely that the Galaxy S25 series could be the first phones to feature this chipset worldwide.

If you’re willing to pay a premium, waiting for the Snapdragon 8 Elite phones could be worthwhile. This chipset is expected to deliver exceptional CPU and GPU performance, ideal for demanding tasks like gaming, video editing, and multitasking. Additionally, new flagships are set to be equipped with silicon carbon batteries, offering larger capacities while maintaining a slim profile, which will be one of the major attractions of Snapdragon 8 Elite phones.

However, there are downsides to consider when deciding whether to wait for these new devices. Snapdragon 8 Elite phones are anticipated to carry a higher price tag due to increased manufacturing costs, which could be a significant factor for budget-conscious consumers. As mentioned above, initial availability is likely to be limited to China, with global releases potentially taking several months. This means your preferred brand or model may not be available right away, resulting in a limited selection at launch.

If you’re not willing to wait or pay a premium for the Snapdragon 8 Elite, there are still plenty of excellent smartphones powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 available now, offering great performance and features at a more affordable price.

Google Pixel 9A CAD renders to showcase design from all angles

Google usually announces its Pixel series of smartphones in October. However, this year the company adopted a different approach by launching the Pixel 9 series earlier in August. Now the brand is reportedly working on the launch of the Pixel 9a, which will be a mid-range offering. The rumor mill has been gradually leaking about the 9A for the past few weeks. Now, Android Headlines has teamed up with prominent leaker Steve Hemmerstoffer (OnLeaks) to share the CAD renders of the phone to reveal its design for the first time.

The CAD renders of the Pixel 9A show that it features a punch-hole OLED panel on the front. The bezels are comparatively thicker than the flagship Pixel 9 models.

The edges of the Pixel 9a are flat, with the power button and volume buttons on the right edge. The bottom edge features a speaker grille, a microphone, a USB-C port, and a SIM slot,

The back panel of the Pixel 9a reveals the major design change. Unlike its predecessors, starting from the Pixel 6 series launched in 2021, which featured a prominent horizontal camera bar, the Pixel 9a departs from this design and does not have a horizontal camera bump.

The dual camera unit appears nearly flush on the 9a’s back. The overall design of the phone is consistent with the leaked image that surfaced a few weeks ago.

Snapdragon X2 Elite is already under development

Qualcomm‘s ARM-based Snapdragon X Elite and Snapdragon X Plus powered laptops started shipping earlier this year with incredible battery life and power efficiency improvements. In the latest news, the next generation “Snapdragon X2” CPUs surfaces on the internet with some key details.

The company is currently preparing the X2 CPUs for testing and WinFuture has reportedly spotted “the first evidence of a new high-end version.”

All versions of the 12-core Snapdragon X Elite have the same internal model number “SC8380XP”. The source has found a new chip with the model number “SC8480XP” databases, which according to them, will be called “Snapdragon X2 Elite”.

WinFuture further reveals that Qualcomm first tested early versions of the “SC8480XP” chip (codenamed “Project Glymur”) during July and August of this year. However, no numbers are available at this moment.

That said, no information is currently available about the clock speed and number of cores in SC8480XP. However, the word “Glymur” in the codename “Project Glymur” hints at significant improvements as it is the name of the second-highest waterfall in Iceland.

So far, Qualcomm has almost exclusively used places or sights in Hawaii as code names for its smartphone and PC processors. It will be interesting to see whether the change in the choice of code names is worth anything.

Qualcomm may complete its development of “Project Glymur” or the “SC8480XP” sometime in 2025.

While the existing Snapdragon X Elite focuses on single-core CPU performance, the multi-core and graphics performance are relatively less impressive and inferior to the Apple M4. The launch of XElite and X Plus chips for Windows PCs has also prompted Intel and AMD to come up with chips that combine stronger CPUs, integrated GPUs, and NPUs.

Qualcomm will likely build upon the momentum and try its best to compete with the latest Apple Silicon both in terms of computing and power efficiency.

Moto G75 5G launched as the world’s first Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 phone, up to 6 years software support

Motorola has officially listed the Moto G75 5G on its Western Europe regional website. Notably, it is the world’s first phone powered by the Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 chip and promises extended software support for up to six years. Here is a look at the specifications, features, and price of the G75.

The Moto G75 5G features a 6.78-inch IPS LCD screen, which is protected by a layer of Gorilla Glass 5. The screen supports an FHD+ resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate, and 1000 nits peak brightness. For durability, the phone comes with an IP68 rating and MIL-STD-810H ratings.

The 4nm Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 chip that powers G75 includes a configuration of 4x 2.4 GHz Cortex-A78 and 4x 1.8 GHz Cortex-A55 cores. While it runs on Android 14 with MyUX, it is promised to receive an impressive five OS upgrades and six years of security updates.

The G75 comes with 8 GB of LPDDR4x RAM, up to 8GB virtual RAM, and 256 GB of UFS 2.2 storage, expandable via a hybrid SIM slot. It houses a 5,000mAh battery supporting 30W wired and 15W wireless charging.

Camera-wise, the Moto G75 5G sports a 16-megapixel front camera and a rear setup with a 50-megapixel main sensor with OIS, an 8-megapixel ultra-wide lens, and a flicker sensor. Other features include a side fingerprint sensor, Dolby Atmos dual speakers, Wi-Fi 802.11ax, Bluetooth 5.4, NFC, and a USB-C port. In terms of dimensions, the G75 measures 166.09 x 77.24 x 8.44mm / 208 grams for vegan leather models and 8.34mm / 205 grams for the matte variant.

The Moto G75 5G comes in shades, such as Charcoal Grey (matte), Aqua Blue, and Succulent Green (vegan leather). As far as pricing is concerned, it can be bought for CZK 8,999 ($397) or 369 euros. The handset is scheduled to go on sale starting Nov. 5. It is expected to be released in multiple markets including India and China.

This is the first Samsung phone to get 6-years of software updates

The rumor mill keeps churning for Samsung‘s upcoming Galaxy A16 series, with a fresh leak showing the budget phone in all its colorful glory – for both the 5G and 4G variants. 

Samsung is tight-lipped on an official launch date for the smartphones. But rumors suggest the device may debut in October, so the wait won’t be long.

The leaked renders show both 5G and 4G variants sporting a triple-camera setup on the back and a U-shaped notch housing the selfie camera on the front. 

The 5G variant appears to have a slightly more premium look with a glossy finish, available in three color options: Blue Black, Light Green, and Gray (although earlier leaks hinted at Gold instead of Gray). 

The 4G model opts for a more understated matte finish in the same Black, Light Green, and Gray palette.

While the design doesn’t offer much to discuss—it’s a classic Samsung affair—here’s what we can expect in terms of specs.

Specifications (Expected)

The phone is rumored to boast a generous 6.7-inch display with a smooth 90Hz refresh rate and a decent 1080×2340 resolution. Under the hood, it might pack either the MediaTek Dimensity 6300 SoC (in India and Thailand) or Samsung’s in-house Exynos 1330 chipset, depending on the region. Memory options could range from 4GB to 8GB of RAM, alongside 128GB or 256GB of storage. 

Keeping the lights on is likely to be a sizable 5,000mAh battery, which should offer solid endurance for everyday use. The phone is also rumored to have an IP54 rating, suggesting some level of dust and water resistance.

What might be the Galaxy A16 5G’s real trump card, however, is its software support. Unlike many budget competitors, Samsung is apparently promising a whopping six major Android updates and an impressive six years of security patches for the phone. 

The details on the Galaxy A16 4G remain a little scarce, but the leaked renders suggest similar design elements with subtle color variations compared to the 5G model. We’ll have to wait for more leaks or an official announcement for a clearer look at its specs and pricing.

Purported Realme GT 7 Pro 3C certified, may ship with 120W charger

Like several other smartphone brands in China, Realme is also working on its next flagship phone, the Realme GT 7 Pro. A recent report claimed that the brand may unveil it in early November, probably making it available for purchase for the upcoming Singles’ Day (Nov. 11) shopping festival in the home market. The radio certification platform in China approved an upcoming Realme phone with model number RMX5010 in September. The same device has now received approval from the country’s 3C regulatory body. It seems that the RMX5010 could be the model number of the upcoming Realme GT 7 Pro.

The above image provides details about the charging capabilities of an upcoming Realme 5G mobile phone, identified by the model number RMX5010. The phone’s power adapter, labelled VCBOACH, supports two different output configurations. The first output configuration offers 5V DC at 2A, which translates to 10W, or 5-11V DC at 7.3A, providing up to 80.3W. The second output configuration also supports 5V DC at 2A (10W) or 5-11V DC at 11A, delivering a maximum of 121W.

According to reports, the Realme GT 7 Pro may support only 100W charging even if it ships with a 121W charger. To recall, the Realme GT 5 Pro, which debuted in December 2023, was also spotted with the same charger. However, the device supported only 100W charging.

The GT 7 Pro is expected to feature a 6,000mAh silicon carbon battery. It will have a 32-megapixel front camera, and its back panel will feature an OIS-assisted 50-megapixel primary camera, an ultra-wide lens, and a 50-megapixel LYT-600 periscope telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom, 10x hybrid zoom, and up to 120x digital zoom.

Under the hood, the GT 7 Pro will feature the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chipset, 16 GB of LPDDR5x RAM, and 1 TB of UFS 4.0 storage. It is also expected to offer other features, such as an IP69-rated body equipped with a metallic frame and an ultrasonic in-screen fingerprint sensor.

Vivo X200, X200 Pro, X200 Pro Mini official images appear, design, color options confirmed

Recently, Vivo’s product manager in China released some images to showcase the rear and front designs of the upcoming Vivo X200 smartphone. However, the company is yet to showcase the design of other models, such as the X200 Pro and X200 Pro Mini. Surprisingly, the entire X200 lineup has now reportedly surfaced on JD.com, a Chinese retailer platform. While the exact JD listings could not be found, the screenshots shared by Chinese tech bloggers give a look at the design and color options of the X200, X200 Pro, and X200 Pro Mini.

The new images reveal that reservations for the Vivo X200 series will open in China on Oct. 8, with the official launch scheduled for Oct. 14. The X200 and X200 Pro will be available in identical colors, such as Moonlight White, Midnight Black, Sapphire Blue, and Titanium.

Both phones feature a round camera module housed inside a large metal ring. Inside, there are multiple camera sensors and ZEISS branding. As per reports, both phones feature a triple camera setup on the back. The LED flash unit is placed outside the circular camera module, on the top right side, adjacent to the module.

It was founded by TCL in 2009 as a way to integrate display panel production into its operations vertically.

According to previous rumors, the standard Xiaomi 15 and Xiaomi 15 Pro’s panels will have a 1.5K and 2K resolution respectively, similar to last year. It was also noted that both the models will come with similar display sizes as their predecessors, which translates to over 450ppi and 500ppi pixel density for the standard and pro models respectively, and ensures a crisp and clear visual experience.

Notably, both the models retain the front appearance design of their predecessors – a straight screen on the base model and a full-depth micro curved model on the Pro model.
