In the latest news, Kamila Wojciechowska, a source inside Google, claims that the Pixel 9a will pack Google’s latest Tensor G4 chip but an older modem.

We have seen Google’s A series Pixel phones coming closer and closer to the base model of the flagship tear Pixel. While it sounds like a good deal, it has created confusion among users regarding their purchase decisions. Notably, the pricing of the A series devices has also increased.

According to the source, Google might be trying to clear up some of the confusion by better differentiating its A series devices from the more premium models, and using an older modem could be a step in that direction.

For those unfamiliar, the packaging protects the die from the external environment and also interconnects it to the PCB (Printed Circuit Board). The packaging element also helps dissipate heat generated by the SoC during operation, which is crucial for maintaining a stable performance. Advanced packaging may include materials or designs that enhance thermal conductivity.

Specifically speaking, the Tensor G4 chip for the Pixel 9a has shifted to IPoP (Integrated Package on Package) from FOPLP (Fan-Out Panel Level Packaging). According to Samsung, the FOPLP is the company’s newer and more advanced packaging method, which is thinner and dissipates heat better. So, technically, the Pixel 9 series flagship devices may maintain an edge in performance and stability while the decision to shift to IPoP may make the Pixel 9a slightly less expensive to manufacture.

We would like to point out that since the device is old, it could be harder to find a replacement battery at service centers, and third-party sellers could charge more for the replacement.

As for the end-of-life software support we mentioned earlier, the device got its Android 14-based HyperOS update in May, so it has all the latest Android features onboard, making it good to use for another couple of years.

It is likely that both tablets may sport the same design and mainly differ in some specifications, such as screen size, chipset, and battery capacity.

Red Magic Gaming Pad design revealed

Red Magic has confirmed that the Red Magic Gaming Pad will come in two colors: Deuterium Transparent Silver Wing and Deuterium Transparent Dark Night. The tablet’s rear side prominently displays a camera module located in the upper-left corner. It houses a 50-megapixel primary camera, an LED flash, and RGB lighting.

Below it, there’s a vertical transparent strip imprinted with texts such as “Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 Leading Version,” “Cooling System,” and “Red Magic” branding, with a circuit board design in the background. The bottom edge of the tablet features a pair of speakers, a microphone, and a USB-C port.

The right edge of the tablet houses a power button, an unknown recessed button, and a pair of microphones. The left spine appears to have connectors for attaching a keyboard. Finally, the tablet’s back panel features the brand’s logo in the centre.

Red Magic Gaming Pad specifications (rumored)

According to reports, the Red Magic Gaming Pad will have a 10.9-inch LCD panel offering a 2.8K resolution and a 144Hz refresh rate. It will be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 Leading Version, LPDDR5x RAM, UFS 4.0 storage, and a 10,100mAh battery with 120W fast charging.

The device will have a 20-megapixel front camera and a 50-megapixel rear camera. It is also said to have other features, such as a metal body, a built-in cooling fan, a 3D heat pipe, and a 3D internal air duct.

The Red Magic Gaming Pad’s other variant featuring a 12.4-inch LCD panel is expected to feature the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset. In addition, it may pack a larger battery.  

Do social media sites listen to your phone’s mic? Facebook partner says Yes!

Ever suddenly come across an advertisement for something you were just talking about? Well, we could never be sure if our phones were listening to us until one of Facebook’s advertising partners confirmed the existence of ‘Active Listening.’

According to a report from 404 Media, “Active Listening” is a software that uses an artificial intelligence model to “capture real-time intent data by listening to our conversations”. Leaked documents cite a pitch deck from Cox Media Group (CMG), which is a TV and radio giant that is one of Facebook’s alleged marketing partners. “Advertisers can pair this voice data with behavioral data to target in-market consumers,” the deck continues.

Aside from Facebook, Google and Amazon also adopt the same practices and are clients of CMG’s Active Listening service. Upon being reached out by 404 Media for a comment on the partnership, Google reportedly removed CMG from its “Partners Program.”

Companies deny using ‘Active Listening’ technology

A Meta spokesperson also informed that CMG was a general partner, not a partner in the program advertised in the deck. “Meta does not use your phone’s microphone for ads and we’ve been public about this for years,” he noted. “We are reaching out to CMG to get them to clarify that their program is not based on Meta data.”

An Amazon spokesperson also noted that they have never worked with CMG for ads and have no plans to do it in the future.

This isn’t the first time though where 404 Media has reported on CMG’s shady voice targeting service. In December last year, 404 Media not only put a marketing company on blast for boasting about such creepy tech on its podcast but also talked about the Active Listening functionality.

“We know what you’re thinking. Is this even legal?” noted a blog post from CMG from November last year. “It is legal for phones and devices to listen to you. When a new app download or update prompts consumers with a multi-page term of use agreement somewhere in the fine print, Active Listening is often included.”

CMG revealed that it can identify users who are “ready-to-buy” and create targeted ad lists based on their interests.

Vivo X200 front design render emerge, showcases compact design

Tipster Digital Chat Station recently suggested that the Vivo X200 series will be announced in the third week of October in China. The series is expected to include three models: the Vivo X200, X200+, and X200 Pro, featuring displays of approximately 6.3 inches, 6.4 to 6.5 inches, and 6.7 inches, respectively. In a new leak, DCS has shared a render that showcases the front design of an upcoming smartphone without specifying its name. Given its 6.3-inch screen, the image seems to provide a clear look of the X200’s front design.

According to the tipster, the above render, created based on a real phone, features a 6.3-inch screen.  The display has rounded corners and symmetrical bezels on all four sides. It has a selfie camera cutout, and the right edge of the device has a volume rocker and a power key.

According to reports, the Vivo X200 will feature a 6.3-inch OLED LTPO panel that offers a 1.5K resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. For security, it will have an optical-type in-display fingerprint sensor.

Like the Vivo X200+ and X200 Pro, the X200 is also expected to feature the Dimensity 9400 chipset. It may pack a 5,600mAh battery with 90W fast charging support. The device is also expected to support wireless charging.

There’s no information about the Vivo X200’s front camera. Reports suggest that the Vivo X200’s rear camera setup features a 50-megapixel main camera that supports OIS. An ultra-wide snapper and a 70mm periscope telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom will accompany the primary camera.

The entire X200 series is expected to run on Android 15 with the latest version of OriginOS on top. Finally, it is expected to sport a slim profile of 8.x mm.

It’s known that the Redmi A3 Pro will not only be introduced in China. The Redmi A3 Pro will be exclusive to the global market. This smartphone promises to deliver a pure Android experience with faster performance than previous Redmi A series models.

The Redmi A3 Pro marks an important development in the Redmi A series. Previous Redmi A series phones used entry-level MediaTek processors. Pixel 9 Pro XL reportedly facing auto-brightness issue—But there’s a fix

A Pixel 9 Pro XL user reported issues with auto-brightness, stating that he often has to manually increase the brightness to match his comfort level. He mentioned that he upgraded from the Pixel 7 Pro, where he never encountered this problem.”

Reddit user matteventu shared a possible reason behind the issue. He speculates that restoring an existing backup from the user’s previous device (Pixel 7 Pro) could have resulted in its adaptive brightness model migrating to the Pixel 9 Pro XL. Since the display panels between the two devices have different brightness levels and curves, it could be causing the inaccurate prediction of brightness levels in auto mode.

In terms of hardware, the Pixel 9 Pro XL’s display panel reaches 2000 nits in HBM, while the Pixel 7 Pro gets only up to 1000 nits for the same.

  • You will need to go to Settings > Apps > See all apps
  • Inside ‘See all apps’ you can search for “Device Health Services” and tap on it.
  • Go to Storage and cache
  • Tap on Clear storage and you will find the ‘Reset adaptive brightness’ option, which resets the adaptive brightness.

However, Aamir Siddiqui from AndroidAuthority notes that it may not completely reset the model the phone has fine-tuned over a period of time, and users will have to adjust the brightness manually for some time to let the adaptive brightness model adapt to the user preferences. In certain scenarios where the lighting condition changes frequently, users can also turn off the brightness to avoid frustration.

We are not sure how widespread this issue is and whether it has caught Google’s attention.

The list has remained quite stagnant in the last few months with the same OnePlus Ace V3, the Realme GT Neo 6 SE, and the Redmi K70E laying claim to the first, second, and third spots on the list.

Exclusive: Nothing’s 2 mysterious smartphones leaked

2 mysterious smartphones from Nothing have been revealed. The Gizmochina team spotted the brand’s new smartphones. With an interesting discovery, we have preliminary information about Nothing’s upcoming smartphones in the near future. The device manufacturer is preparing to announce 2 different smartphones. We don’t know when these smartphones will be introduced, but both devices are expected to have similar features.

2 new smartphones from Nothing: A059 and A059P

Nothing is developing 2 smartphones with model numbers A059 and A059P. We’re not sure if these will be sold under the CMF brand or under the Nothing brand name. So we don’t know what features Nothing’s new models will have. But the model numbers give us some clues. While A059 represents the normal model of the series, A059P represents the Plus model of the series. In other words, 2 smartphones, normal and Plus, will be available in the near future. At the end of A059P, the letter P stands for Plus.

Of course, we have no information about when these smartphones will be introduced. But we can say that the recently added new smartphone in our database will not be introduced soon. Our most promising explanation for you is that the devices are likely to be introduced at least 3-4 months later. Top 3 Reasons Why the Samsung Galaxy S24 FE May Fall Short as a Budget Flagship

Samsung is gearing up to unveil a bunch of new products soon. One of these highly anticipated products includes the Galaxy S24 FE, which is an upcoming budget flagship smartphone. This device might be the affordable premium experience that people are waiting for, however, I suspect it might fall short in some regards. So here are the Top 3 reasons why the Galaxy S24 FE may disappoint.

1. Underwhelming Battery & Charging

Samsung isn’t known for offering big batteries on its flagship phones except for the Ultra. While the industry standard for most high-end devices is a 5,000mAh battery pack, the Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24+ only offered a 4,000mAh and 4,900mAh cell respectively. While the latter is still quite decent, the Galaxy S24 FE might fall somewhere between these two. Last month, a leak claimed that the 2024 Fan Edition model would be powered by a 4565mAh battery. This is ever so slightly bigger than its predecessor but it’s still quite underwhelming.

It gets worse considering the charging rates. In the current market, even budget phones can offer faster charging rates than the Galaxy S24 FE. Based on the TUV Rheinland database, the Galaxy S24 FE supports just 25W wired fast charging. Only the higher-end Galaxy S24+ and Galaxy S24 Ultra support 45W wired fast charging. But even these pale in comparison to flagship phones from other brands. Samsung’s budget flagship could also offer 9W wireless charging support, which is slower than the 15W wireless charging feature on the Galaxy S23 FE and even the Galaxy S21 FE.

2. Camera: Same as last time?

The previous gen Galaxy S23 FE was well received in the market and didn’t have any glaring issues or standout features in particular. It was a solid package and made certain improvements over the S21 FE, mainly the design. However some felt that the camera didn’t feel as capable as Samsung’s true flagship models. While the exact image sensors of the Galaxy S24 FE are still unknown, this is the same overall package as the Galaxy S23 FE. So there’s a chance we might not see any improvement in the photography side.

To recall, the Galaxy S24 FE is rumored to feature a 50-megapixel primary camera along with a 12-megapixel ultra wide angle lens and an 8-megapixel telephoto shooter with 3x optical zoom. For selfies and video calls, the front houses a 10-megapixel sensor.

3. Underpowered Exynos 2400

Samsung typically launched its Galaxy S lineup in two variants, namely Snapdragon and Exynos. So depending on the region, you’ll get a Galaxy S24 with either a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC or Exynos 2400. The former has always been faster than the brand’s proprietary chipset but with the Galaxy S24 FE, we might getting only an Exynos option.

Rumors have also hinted that the chip under the hood is an underclocked version dubbed the Exynos 2400e. This might be the company’s way to cut costs on cooling or some other reason. So it probably won’t be as powerful as some of the other new affordable flagship phones out there.

Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 tops its own peak clock speed in new rumor

Qualcomm‘s upcoming Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 processor might be packing a bigger punch than initially anticipated. A new leak suggests the chip could reach clock speeds exceeding the previously confirmed 4.09 GHz via Geekbench listing.

This leak comes from the typically reliable tipster Digital Chat Station, who claims the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4’s prime core could reach speeds as high as 4.37 GHz.

This revised clock speed, if true, will position the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 more competitively against Apple’s A18 Pro which reportedly has a max clock speed of 4.45GHz. 

On the flip side, the tipster suggests that the MediaTek Dimensity 9400 will have a much lower peak clock speed of 3.66 GHz. However, clock speed is a headline-grabbing metric and it’s not the sole indicator of performance.

In fact, several reports indicate that the Dimensity 9400 could outperform the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4, thanks to ARM’s new Cortex-X925 core. 

Digital Chat Station even claimed that the 9400 surpasses both Apple and Qualcomm in IPC performance, with the Cortex-X5 core outpacing Qualcomm’s Nuvia CPU cores and Apple’s A17 Pro.

Qualcomm is also expected to bring its own set of unique features with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4. For instance, it may come with a DLSS Frame Gen-like feature for its Adreno 760 GPU, which could greatly enhance gaming by intelligently upscaling images.

The true performance of these chips will hinge on more than just clock speed. Architecture, power efficiency, and software optimization will all play a role in determining its real-world capabilities. 

We’ll have to wait for official benchmarks and device launches to see how the latest SoCs from Qualcomm and MediaTek stack up against each other. But for now, this leak suggests the battle for mobile supremacy is far from over, and Qualcomm might have a surprise or two in store.
