HyperOS 2.0 release set for October 10; Will Xiaomi 15 Debut the Same Day?

Xiaomi is known to be working on the second generation of HyperOS for quite a while. Xiaomitime previously spotted a line of code in the system that suggests that the company is working on HyperOS 2.0. Now the latest leak out of China claims that the HyperOS 2.0 will be released on October 10.

Xiaomi HyperOS 2.0 update

According to the image, the Redmi K70 Ultra (review) may get the HyperOS 2.0 version OS2.0.1.0.VNNCNXM on October 10, 2024. So the second generation of HyperOS could launch on October 10.

For those questioning the possibility of Xiaomi releasing the new generation of HyperOS on a Redmi device first, it’s also possible that the company will launch the Xiaomi 15 and Xiaomi 15 Pro on the same date. It was previously rumored that the Xiaomi 15 series would be the first to run HyperOS 2.0.

Possible improvements in HyperOS 2.0

Interesting details have already been spotted about HyperOS 2.0. It will reputedly be based on both Android 14 and Android 15 and will reach many Xiaomi, Redmi, and POCO devices.

Based on what we know so far, HyperOS 2.0 will improve connectivity with other Xiaomi devices and will pack a feature that can detect hidden cameras. Lu Weibing, the President and General Manager of the Redmi and Xiaomi brand also previously hinted that HyperOS 2.0 is deeply integrated with LLMs, which possibly makes it a better AI phone.

The improved AI capabilities of HyperOS 2.0 could offer improved voice recognition, enhanced photo and video editing, and personalized app recommendations. All of it is aimed at making Xiaomi devices more intuitive and user-friendly.

Aside from the AI features noted above, HyperOS 2.0 could also use AI to offer ‘smart battery management’, improved charging, and other optimizations by observing user behavior.

In addition to the AI features, HyperOS 2.0 is reported to have a refreshed UI design. Users may also expect smoother animation than the previous generation, which should improve the multitasking experience. As part of the UI redesign, HyperOS 2.0 introduces enhanced notification management and additional home screen customization options, which should further improve the user experience.

HMD’s Barbie Phone is finally here: But is the Hot Pink Toy Phone late to the party?

HMD has finally released the Barbie Phone after teasers and sightings in certifications. The new feature phone looks a lot like a toy phone and brings an iconic bright pink design that Barbie is known for. So what makes it special and is it worth buying? Let’s check it out

HMD Barbie Phone
HMD Barbie Phone

1. HMD Barbie Phone: Childhood Phone Meets Childhood Toy

Growing up in the early 2000s, feature phones were a ubiquitous part of everyday life, much like smartphones are today. Mattel’s Hotwheels were a popular toy series, while Barbie dolls were a cultural icon. While HMD’s Barbie Phone doesn’t revolutionize the flip phone formula, it offers a nostalgic throwback that blends these two past icons. This device takes you back to a simpler time with its focus solely on calls and texts – nothing more, nothing less.

2. Let’s talk Specs

The HMD Barbie Phone sports a 2.8-inch QVGA display on the inside, complemented by a smaller 1.77-inch cover screen on the outer panel. Under the hood, it is powered by the Unisoc T107 processor, coupled with 64MB of RAM and 128MB of internal storage. Users can expand the storage by up to 32GB via a microSD card slot. The device runs on the S30+ OS out of the box.

A 1,450mAh battery pack powers the device, promising up to 9 hours of talk time. For photography, it features a VGA camera on the rear with an LED flash module. Other notable features include Bluetooth 5.0, USB Type-C, a 3.5mm headphone jack, FM Radio, and an MP3 player.

3. So is it worth the price?

HMD’s Barbie Phone was announced in the UK and Europe for 99 GBP and 129 EUR respectively. The initial sales are already live, with a planned release in the US in September priced at 129 US Dollars. If you’re in the market for a phone that lets you relive the past, the HMD Barbie Phone could be an appealing option.

While Barbie’s resurgence stemmed from a movie released over a year ago, it might seem a bit late to the hot pink bandwagon. Nonetheless, it remains a quirky product that can be used or collected as a special edition without breaking the bank.

Why you shouldn’t buy a fitness tracker if you’re not ready to commit

Fitness trackers have become increasingly popular, promising to help users stay on top of their health and fitness goals. These devices offer a wealth of data, from step counts to heart rate monitoring, sleep tracking, and even stress levels. But before you rush to buy one, it’s crucial to ask yourself if you’re truly ready to commit. A fitness tracker isn’t just a gadget; it’s a lifestyle tool that requires consistent use and dedication to yield meaningful results.

Xiaomi Smart Band 8 Pro

The Real Demands of Owning a Fitness Tracker

One of the main reasons to reconsider buying a fitness tracker is the commitment it demands. These devices track your activity 24/7, and to get the most out of them, you need to engage with the data they provide. This means not only wearing the tracker every day but also regularly reviewing your stats, setting realistic goals, and making adjustments to your daily routine. If you’re not ready to commit to this level of engagement, the tracker may end up being just another expensive accessory, rather than a useful tool.

Fitness trackers also rely heavily on accurate and consistent data to provide meaningful insights. For example, the heart rate monitors in these devices use optical sensors that need to be in close contact with your skin at all times. If you aren’t diligent about wearing the tracker regularly or correctly, the data may be inaccurate, leading to misleading results. Moreover, most fitness trackers use algorithms to estimate calories burned, sleep stages, and other metrics. These algorithms are only as good as the data fed into them, which requires consistent and correct usage on your part.

Another aspect to consider is the psychological impact. Fitness trackers can be highly motivating for some people, pushing them to achieve their daily goals. However, they can also lead to frustration if the goals set by the tracker feel unattainable, or if the constant monitoring starts to feel like a burden. If you’re not mentally prepared to engage with your health data on a daily basis, the tracker might end up causing more stress than benefit.

Some advanced fitness trackers like the Apple Watch or Fitbit Charge 6 come with additional features like ECG monitoring and SpO2 tracking. These are powerful tools that can provide deep insights into your health, but they also come with a steeper learning curve and demand even more commitment to use effectively. If you’re not ready to fully utilize these features, you might be paying for capabilities you’ll never use.

Infinix Zero 40 5G Specifications

The crown jewel appears to be the Infinix Zero 40 5G. This model boasts a large 6.78-inch LTPS AMOLED display with a smooth 144Hz refresh rate and a touch sampling rate of up to 1500Hz. Corning Gorilla Glass 5 provides a layer of protection against scratches and nicks.

Under the hood, the phone packs a MediaTek Dimensity 8200 Ultimate chipset, paired with a generous 12GB of LPDDR5X RAM. Storage options include 256GB and 512GB, both utilizing speedy UFS 3.1 technology.

Powering the device is a 5,000mAh battery, which supports a range of charging options including 45W wired, 20W wireless, and even 10W reverse wired charging – ideal for topping up compatible devices on the go.

The camera system on the Zero 40 5G also seems well-equipped. There’s a 108MP ISOCELL HM6 main sensor with both Optical (OIS) and Electronic Image Stabilization support (EIS).

It’s joined by a 50MP ultrawide sensor and a 2MP depth sensor, along with a quad-LED flash.  For selfies, the phone is said to have a 50MP ISOCELL JN1 sensor with dual flash and EIS on the front.

Both front and rear cameras can capture 4K videos at 60 fps. An interesting addition, however, is an integration with GoPro devices. Though specific details remain unclear.

On the software side, the Zero 40 5G runs the latest Android 14 with Infinix’s XOS 14.5 on top. The company promises at least three years of security patches and an upgrade to Android 16 in the future. Dust and water resistance with an IP54 rating, WiFi 6E, NFC, an under-display fingerprint scanner, and JBL-tuned dual speakers round out the feature set.

Infinix Zero 40 4G Specifications

For budget-conscious users, the Infinix Zero 40 (4G) is a more affordable option. While it shares the same large 6.78-inch AMOLED display, it has a slightly lower 120Hz refresh rate. Powering this device is the MediaTek Helio G100 chipset paired with 8GB of RAM and a substantial 512GB of storage. Notably, wireless charging is absent on this model.

Price

The Zero 40 (4G) will be available in three color options – Misty Aqua, Blossom Glow, and Rock Black – for a price of USD 279.  The 5G variant, sporting the more powerful processor and additional features, will retail for USD 399 and come in Violet Garden, Moving Titanium, and Rock Black colorways.

IFA 2024: Tecno debuts Phantom Ultimate 2, a groundbreaking tri-fold concept phone

Huawei is anticipated to launch the world’s first tri-foldable phone in September in China. In a notable move, Tecno has introduced its own groundbreaking tri-fold concept phone, the Phantom Ultimate 2, at the IFA technology conference in Berlin. This announcement comes as the brand prepares to release the Phantom V Fold 2 and V Flip 2 foldable phones.

Tecno Phantom Ultimate 2 design, key features

To recall, Tecno showcased the first-generation Tecno Phantom Ultimate concept phone with a rollable screen this year at the MWC 2024 tech exhibition. Its display could expand from 6.55-inch to 7.11-inch in just 1.3 seconds. The brand is now back with a new concept, the Phantom Ultimate 2, which sports a tri-foldable design.

The Phantom Ultimate 2 stands out with its slim profile, measuring just 11mm when folded, making it thinner than the Galaxy Z Fold 6, which has a thickness of 12.1mm. It features a new hinge design and an ultra-thin battery cover, only 0.25mm thick, crafted from super-compressed Titan Advanced Fiber material.

When closed, the phone sports a 6.48-inch display, but it unfolds into a large 10-inch 3K OLED panel with a 4:3 aspect ratio. The device supports multiple folding modes, including a laptop-like configuration, a media viewing mode, and a tent mode, ideal for dual-screen tasks like real-time translation. The hinges are tested for durability, capable of withstanding up to 300,000 folds.

Tecno Phantom Ultimate 2
Tecno Phantom Ultimate 2

Tecno has optimized the Phantom Ultimate 2’s software to enhance multitasking across three vertical windows and provide adaptable wallpapers for different folding scenarios. Lastly, the device is equipped with a triple camera unit on the back for photography. As can be seen in the last image, the tri-foldable phone appears completely when its screen is completely expanded.

A concept phone is an experimental device showcasing advanced designs or technologies that may not be available in current products. These phones are often used to demonstrate what’s possible in the future, but they are typically not intended for commercial release, making it unlikely that they will be available for purchase.

Vivo Y300 Pro 5G launch date confirmed, packs 6.77-inch OLED display, 6,500mAh battery, 80W charging, and more

Recently, a new Vivo phone bearing the V2410A model number was approved by China’s 3C certification platform. The same device, which is believed to be the upcoming Vivo Y300 Pro 5G, was also spotted in Geekbench’s database recently. Today, Jia Jingdong, Vivo’s Vice President of Brand and General Manager of Brand and Product Strategy, confirmed the launch date, key specifications, and design of the Y300 Pro.

Vivo Y300 Pro 5G key specifications, design

According to Jingdong, the Vivo Y300 Pro will be the latest addition to the Vivo Y series, which has earned a reputation for being durable, user-friendly, and widely popular, serving over 300 million users globally. This device exemplifies Vivo’s strategy of “decentralization,” where advanced features typically found in flagship phones are introduced to the Y series, making it highly competitive in its category. However, the Y300 Pro goes beyond this approach by adopting a “leapfrogging” strategy, introducing the latest and most powerful features even before they appear in flagship models, ensuring a significant upgrade in user experience.

The Vivo Y300 Pro 5G also introduces Vivo’s latest display technology, featuring a 6.77-inch micro-quad-curved OLED screen. The display offers an ultra-bright 5000nit brightness, making it ideal for outdoor use. The screen is designed with eye protection in mind, incorporating technologies like blue light filtering and anti-strobe features. Both the National Ophthalmology Engineering Centre and SGS have certified it for eye protection. When it comes to durability, the Vivo Y300 is SGS-certified for drop resistance, dustproof, and waterproof capabilities.

A major highlight of the Y300 Pro is its 6,500mAh Blue Ocean battery that offers up to 12.1 hours of gaming time on a single charge. Despite its massive battery, the phone remains incredibly thin at 7.69mm and is designed to last for five years. It supports 80W wired charging, wireless charging, and reverse charging. Vivo’s innovative Extreme Graphite Technology achieves this high energy efficiency by optimizing the battery’s structure for maximum capacity without increasing its size.

The Y300 Pro’s rear camera features a 50-megapixel primary camera, while it has a 32-megapixel on the front for selfies. In terms of design and camera capabilities, the Y300 Pro impresses with a flagship design language, including a jade ring lens module and a 360-degree sun texture.

The phone also enhances the popular “career mode,” now in its second generation, tailored for professional use by riders, with features like enhanced hands-free calls, improved network optimization, and intelligent assistance during delivery tasks. The Y300 Pro is available in four distinct color options, such as Titanium, Gold Inlaid Jade, Mutton Fat White, and Black Jade Black.

The Geekbench listing of the device revealed that the Vivo Y300 Pro will have the Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 chipset, 12 GB of RAM, and Android 14. The device will succeed the Snapdragon 695-powered Vivo Y200 Pro from last year.

When it comes to design, it will look identical to the OnePlus Buds 3 Pro, which debuted recently in the global market.

The model number from the Geekbench listing further suggests that this is indeed the VR headset Samsung is working on. Previously, tipster Ronald Quandt noted that this model number represents the VR headset from Samsung.

Exclusive: Realme is developing 10 new smartphones [Updated: 27 August 2024]

Realme’s new 6 different smartphones have been revealed. The Gizmochina team found some remarkable details about the devices and in this article we will reveal everything. We have already spotted 4 different new Realme models. Now, 6 more new Realme models have been surfaced. We don’t have any information about the specifications of the smartphones. However, the detected model numbers point to a new generation of Realme smartphones.

Previously, we reported that Realme was working on four different smartphones. The model numbers of these four devices were “RMX5000”, “RMX5002”, “RMX5010” and “RMX5011”. The Gizmochina team detected 6 more new Realme smartphones. The model numbers of new devices are “RMX5003”, “RMX5004”, “RMX5050”, “RMX5051”, “RMX5055” and “RMX5056”. These model numbers will belong to future Realme models. Considering that Realme’s model numbers are normally ordered as RMX1000, RMX2000, and RMX3000, it is noteworthy that the RMX4000 series is skipped and goes directly to the RMX5000 series.

Superstitions in Chinese culture are thought to be effective behind this unusual transition. In Chinese culture, the number 4 is considered inauspicious as it is pronounced similarly to the word “death”. This is called “Tetraphobia”, the fear of 4. This belief has led many Chinese brands to avoid the number 4 in their product numbering. Realme’s parent company Oppo did something similar, skipping the Find X4 and launching the Find X5 directly. Therefore, Realme’s decision to do the same and skip the RMX4000 series and go straight to the RMX5000 series may be due to this superstition in Chinese culture.

Realme is a brand known for its innovative technologies and affordable products. These four new devices are expected to generate interest among consumers. It shows that the brand is working on new models and the numbering of these models is influenced by superstitions in Chinese culture. The fact that Realme is a sub-brand of Oppo and under the umbrella of BBK Electronics shows that the brand has strong support and a wide technology infrastructure. Realme is expected to introduce these new devices in the future and present them to technology lovers.
