Galaxy A57’s One UI 9.0 update is causing a boot issue; you may want to wait

If you’ve got a Galaxy A57 and the One UI 9.0 update is sitting there waiting to be installed, maybe give it a miss for now.

Galaxy A57 screen showing a One UI 9.0 update and an XML error message.

Early reports are coming in that the new update (the big Android 17-based one) is leaving some phones struggling to start up properly. What should have been a normal upgrade is turning into a headache for a chunk of owners.

The problem started showing up once Samsung began rolling out the stable One UI 9.0 version outside South Korea. Over there the phone is called the Galaxy Quantum 7 and it got the update earlier without the same wave of complaints. The European and other international versions have been a different story.

According to people on Reddit and X, the issue seems tied to an XML file error. Affected phones can get stuck showing an error screen, sometimes “Access Denied”, sometimes just a raw XML document tree, and they won’t get past the One UI 9 intro or setup screens.

A smartphone screen displaying an XML access denied error after a failed software update.

The good news is it’s not happening to everyone. Plenty of A57 owners have updated with no issue at all. The bad news is there’s no way of knowing in advance whether your phone will be one of the unlucky ones.

Samsung hasn’t put out any detailed statement yet about what’s causing it or when a proper fix is coming. Until they do, the general advice from the community is pretty simple: if you haven’t updated yet, wait.

If you’re already stuck, a few people have found a temporary workaround that got their phones working again:

  1. Hold the Power and Volume Down buttons together until the power menu appears.
  2. Long-press the Power Off option until the Safe Mode prompt shows up.
  3. Choose Safe Mode and let the phone restart.
  4. Once you’re in Safe Mode, just restart the phone normally.

A number of users say doing this once was enough to get past the error and back to normal use. It’s completely unofficial though, so results can vary. Right now, the new features probably aren’t worth the risk of ending up with a phone that won’t boot properly.

Samsung hikes Galaxy A27, M47, and F70 Pro prices again; A27 now costs up to Rs 47,499

If you’ve been eyeing a mid-range Samsung phone in India, the prices just went up again. The company has quietly raised the official rates on three popular models this month, continuing a trend of upward revisions across its budget and mid-tier lineup.

Three Samsung Galaxy A27 5G smartphones displayed in different colors with promotional text.

Starting mid-October 2026, Samsung increased the prices of the Galaxy A27, Galaxy M47, and Galaxy F70 Pro by Rs 2,000 across all variants. Tipster Sanju Choudhary first spotted the change through internal retail communications.

A red Samsung smartphone displays the Samsung Wallet interface for contactless mobile payments.

The Galaxy M47 and F70 Pro (which share a lot of the specifications) now start at Rs 37,999 for the 6GB/128GB version, up from Rs 35,999. The 8GB/128GB jumps from Rs 39,999 to Rs 41,999, and the 8GB/256GB goes from Rs 44,999 to Rs 46,999.

The Galaxy A27, the more lifestyle-focused A-series option with the same Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 chip, follows the exact same pattern. Its 6GB/128GB model rises from Rs 33,999 to Rs 35,999, the 8GB/128GB from Rs 40,999 to Rs 42,999, and the 8GB/256GB from Rs 45,499 to Rs 47,499.

That said, interested buyers still have a short window. The prices are already updated on the official Samsung India website, which confirms this isn’t a false alarm. Flipkart and Amazon are still showing the older rates for now, but it’s only a matter of time before they follow suit, likely once existing stock sells out.

Some physical retailers may also be clearing older inventory during festive sales, and bank offers or extra discounts can still bring the effective cost down. If you’re planning to buy one of these Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 models, it’s worth checking the current prices soon before the older rates disappear.

This isn’t a one-off. Over the past few weeks and months, Samsung has already hiked prices on several other Galaxy A and M series phones, including models in the A17 and M17 ranges. The M47 and F70 Pro themselves saw a Rs 3,000 increase back in September, so the cumulative rise is now well above their original launch prices. Other brands like OPPO and Vivo have made similar moves, pointing to wider pressure from rising component and manufacturing costs.

Anker Nano Charger Neo drops to $19.99 on Amazon three weeks after launch

Anker’s new Nano Charger Neo is $19.99 on Amazon as of Tuesday morning US time. That is 23% off its $25.99 list price, sold by AnkerDirect with free Prime delivery. It only launched in the US in late September at $25.99, so this is $6 off a three-week-old product. During Prime Big Deal Days (6 to 8 October), it dipped to $18.19, $1.80 below today’s price.

Check Anker Nano Charger Neo Price on Amazon

Anker Nano Charger Neo

The Neo is a single USB-C charger with one trick. It is rated 45W for normal use but uses AVS (Adjustable Voltage Supply) to push up to 65W to devices that ask for it, such as iPhone 18 Pro models and MacBooks.

Anker claims the Nano Charger Neo takes an iPhone 18 Pro Max to 80% in 32 minutes and an iPhone 17 Pro Max to 60% in 30 minutes. In Anker’s tests, the 18 Pro Max hit a peak of 47C (117F). You also get ActiveShield 4.0 temperature monitoring, a 180-degree foldable plug tested to four folds a day for eight years, and an 18-month warranty.

Should you buy the Neo?

Yes, if you charge one device at a time. At $19.99 this is the charger to buy for one iPhone 18 Pro, a Pixel, a Galaxy phone or a small laptop. Apple’s 40W Dynamic Power Adapter does the same trick for $15 more and stops at 60W.

Two catches. It has one port, so it will not charge a phone and a watch together. And the 65W is a burst, not a sustained rating. Anker says power drops gradually after about 20 minutes at 65W, and it does not say where it settles.

Need two ports? The Anker Nano 65W 3-port at $29.99 is the better buy. If not, buy the Neo. All colors are $19.99 today.

Honor Win RT 2 to pack 12,070mAh battery, Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, and built-in cooling fan

The Honor Win 2 series of performance-driven flagship phones is set to go official on Oct. 21 in China. Ahead of the launch, the Win 2, Win RT 2, and Win Turbo 2 are all listed on Honor’s online store in China, revealing their official images and configurations. At the same time, a leak from reliable tipster DCS has revealed key details about the Win RT 2, which packs the largest battery seen on a smartphone from a mainstream brand. Here’s a look at what to expect from these phones.

Honor Win RT 2 and Win Turbo 2 variants, color options

Digital Chat Station social media post detailing Honor Win RT 2 smartphone specifications.

The official images showcase the Win RT 2 and Win Turbo 2 in color options such as Red and Blue Buff, Quickly Star Black, and Designated Win.

According to a Weibo post by tipster Digital Chat Station, the Win RT 2 will arrive with a 185Hz 2K AMOLED panel with ultra-thin bezels, a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chip, a built-in cooling fan, and dual 1216 symmetrical speakers. However, the phone’s major highlight is its huge 12,070mAh battery. As per the 3C certification of the device, it may support 90W fast charging.

The Win RT 2 will be available in multiple configurations, including 12GB+256GB, 16GB+256GB, 12GB+512GB, and 16GB+512GB. The Win Turbo 2 will be sold in the same configurations, along with a base model offering 8GB+256GB. There is no information about the device’s specifications, but some vague reports suggest that it may also pack a 12,070mAh battery. However, there is a possibility that it may ship with a Dimensity chipset.

As far as the Honor Win 2 is concerned, it is expected to feature the same 2K 185Hz AMOLED panel as the Win RT 2. The screens on both phones could measure 6.89 inches. Under the hood, the Win 2 may feature the latest Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 chip and a 10,000mAh battery with 100W charging. It will have the configuration as the Win RT 2 but will come in an additional 16GB+1TB option. It will be available in colors like Red and Blue buff, Quick Black, and Guaranteed Win.

Redmi K100 with 10,000mAh battery tipped to launch by October end

The Redmi K100 Pro and K100 Pro Max debuted in China in August, but the standard Redmi K100 was missing from the lineup. Earlier reports suggested that the phone would arrive before the end of the year. A new leak now hints that its debut could be just days away.

Redmi K100 launch timeframe tipped

Social media post from Smart Pikachu detailing upcoming Redmi K100 smartphone specifications and launch.

According to tipster Smart Pikachu, Redmi is tentatively planning to launch the standard K100 toward the end of October. The tipster says the phone will focus on a combination of Snapdragon dual-chip performance, a massive battery, an ultra-high-refresh-rate display and Bose-tuned audio. Redmi has yet to confirm the launch date or these details, so the timeline remains unofficial.

Redmi K100 specifications (rumored)

redmi K100 Pro Max
Redmi K100 Pro Max

The Redmi K100v has already appeared in an earlier leak from tipster Digital Chat Station who shared details about an engineering prototype in August. According to the tipster, the handset could feature a large, flat display measuring between 6.8 and 6.9 inches, with an ultra-high refresh rate, which could be 185Hz. The phone is also tipped to include a battery approaching 10,000mAh, potentially making endurance one of its biggest selling points.

The K100 may draw power from 2024’s Snapdragon 8 Elite chip and it may also feature a dedicated display chip for an enhanced gaming experience. Other reported features include symmetrical dual speakers, a relatively large linear vibration motor, a 3D ultrasonic fingerprint scanner and an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance.

As for pricing, the Redmi K100 is expected to sit below the K100 Pro, which reportedly starts at 3,699 yuan (approximately $550) in China. If Redmi follows that positioning, the standard model could start at around $450, although its actual price and memory configurations are still unknown.

Galaxy S26 Ultra is $1,049.99 on Amazon, a fair price after Samsung’s US price hike

Samsung’s Galaxy S26 Ultra is $1,049.99 on Amazon as of Tuesday morning US time. That is the 256GB unlocked model in Black, the US version with a one-year US warranty. Amazon shows it at 25% off a list price of $1,399.99. The 512GB model is $1,399.99, with a list price of $1,599.99.

Check Galaxy S26 Ultra Price on Amazon

Here’s the thing about that list price. The S26 Ultra launched at $1,299.99 for 256GB in February. On 1 October, Samsung raised US prices to $1,399.99 for 256GB, $1,599.99 for 512GB and $1,999.99 for 1TB, and reports put it down to the memory shortage. We reported the hike was coming back in September. So today’s price is $350 below the new list price and $250 below the launch price.

Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra

Is it the lowest so far? No. During Prime Big Deal Days, 6 to 8 October, Amazon had the 256GB Black at $949.99. Today it is $100 more.

VariantTodayList price nowLaunch priceLast week’s Prime Day price
256GB, Black$1,049.99$1,399.99$1,299.99$949.99
256GB, other colours$1,152.77 to $1,187.55$1,399.99$1,299.99not tracked
512GB$1,399.99$1,599.99$1,499.99not tracked

Only Black gets the deal. Cobalt Violet is the cheapest of the other colours at $1,152.77, and Sky Blue is the dearest at $1,187.55. You may also spot a $959 “Version Latina” listing (model SM-S948BZ, sold by CellOne) but it is a Latin American import with no US warranty, so we would leave that one alone.

Should you buy it at $1,049.99?

This is a fair price, not a great one. If you need a phone this month, buy the Black now. Samsung’s new list price has moved the floor up, and the memory shortage is pushing prices one way. If you can wait about six weeks, Black Friday is the next realistic shot at $949.99.

The phone itself is unchanged. The 6.9-inch LTPO AMOLED runs at 120Hz, peaks at 2,600 nits and adds a Privacy Display under Gorilla Armor 2, all in a 7.9mm body. Inside is the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 with 12GB of RAM. The 200MP main camera sits next to a 50MP ultrawide, a 50MP 5x periscope and a 10MP 3x telephoto, and it shoots 8K video at 30fps. The S Pen is still built in, and Samsung promises seven major Android updates.

Now the rivals. The Pixel 11 Pro 256GB is $899 on Amazon today, down from a $1,099 list price, and our Pixel 11 Pro vs Galaxy S26 Ultra comparison covers what the extra $150 gets you. The iPhone 18 Pro costs about $1,200. If charging speed matters most, the Vivo X500 Pro Max is the $1,000 Chinese flagship we put against it, though it is not sold on Amazon US. We also compared it with the Xiaomi 17 Ultra in March.

On an S25 Ultra? Read our S26 Ultra vs S25 Ultra breakdown before you upgrade.

Other Samsung and Google deals on Amazon

A few related prices, also as of this morning.

  • Samsung Galaxy Tab S12+ 256GB WiFi at $1,199.99 with a free $200 Amazon gift card. The list price is $1,399.99, and Amazon marks it as a “Limited Prime deal”.
  • Galaxy Watch 7 is back to $249. Its Prime Day price of $159 is gone.
  • Google Pixel Watch 3 at $199.99, down from a $399.99 list price, if you are not tied to Samsung.

Check Galaxy Tab S12+ Price on Amazon

Honestly, the gift card is the better part of the tablet deal. If you shop on Amazon anyway, it brings the Tab S12+ down to $999.99 in practice.

iQOO Neo 12 front design revealed, 2K 185Hz display confirmed

iQOO has offered a closer look at its upcoming Neo 12 smartphone ahead of its expected debut. The latest teasers focus on the device’s front design and display technology. They also highlight the company’s efforts to improve screen performance without increasing power consumption.

iQOO Neo 12: Front design and display technology teased

The first promotional poster reveals the iQOO Neo 12’s front design, showing a flat display with ultra-thin bezels and a centrally positioned punch-hole camera. Two additional posters emphasize the screen’s key capabilities, including its 2K resolution and unusually high 185Hz refresh rate. The teasers also highlight improvements in brightness and display quality while reducing power consumption.

Last week, tipster Digital Chat Station claimed that the phone would feature a next-generation Visionox panel using the company’s fourth-generation pTSF light-emitting technology. The technology is reportedly designed to improve efficiency, visual performance and panel longevity. iQOO has now confirmed the 2K resolution and 185Hz refresh rate through its official Weibo teasers, strengthening the earlier claims about the display.

iQOO has revealed several other details through earlier teasers. The Neo 12 is confirmed to feature the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor alongside the company’s Q3 gaming chip. Promotional material also points to a 9,000mAh battery, while its 3C certification suggests support for 100W fast charging.

The smartphone is expected to feature a built-in cooling fan with an Ice Dome active cooling system and redesigned airflow channels for improved heat dissipation during gaming. A Geekbench listing has also reportedly revealed 16GB of RAM and Android 17, potentially with OriginOS 7 on top. However, these details have not all been officially confirmed, and the phone’s pricing and launch date remain unknown.

Nothing Phone (3) drops to $549 on Amazon, and there is no cheaper successor coming

The Nothing Phone (3) is down to $549 on Amazon. That is the 12GB/256GB model, sold and shipped by Amazon. The listing shows $699 as the usual price, and the phone launched at $799 in July 2025. The 16GB/512GB version is $649, down from $899.

Check Nothing Phone (3) Price on Amazon

Nothing Phone 3

Is this the lowest price ever?

Not quite. Amazon sold it for $499 for a single day in late August. Outside that day, the floor has been $599, a price it hit in the spring sale and again on Prime Day in July and in August. So $549 sits $50 under the normal sale price and $50 above the one-off low.

VariantNowUsual Amazon priceLaunch priceLowest so far
12GB + 256GB$549$699$799$499 (one day, 26 Aug)
16GB + 512GB$649$899$899$649 (today)

Here’s what makes this deal different from the earlier ones. Nothing has said there will be no Phone (4) in 2026. Carl Pei called the Phone (3) the flagship for the year, and he said prices are likely to rise next year because memory costs more. Nothing already cancelled the CMF Phone 2 Pro successor for the same reason, and it raised Phone (3a) Lite prices in April. Waiting for a newer, cheaper model is not a plan here.

What $549 buys

You get a Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 and a 6.67-inch 1.5K AMOLED screen at 120Hz. Around the back are three 50MP cameras, one of them a 3x periscope, and there is a 50MP selfie camera up front. The 5,150mAh battery takes 65W wired and 15W wireless charging. The phone is IP68 rated. The back also carries the Glyph Matrix dot display, and the Essential Key sits on the side.

Software support is long. Nothing promises five years of Android updates and seven years of security patches. The phone shipped on Android 15 and now runs Nothing OS 4.1 with Android 16, which we covered when the April update landed.

Two drawbacks, stated plainly. The chip is the 8s Gen 4, not the 8 Elite. A OnePlus 15R is $749 on Amazon right now with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 and a 7,400mAh battery, so if raw speed matters most, spend the extra $200 there. The US model is also certified for AT&T and T-Mobile only. On Verizon? Skip it.

If you are coming from a Phone (1) or Phone (2), or from anything older than a Pixel 7 or Galaxy S22, this is the one to buy at this price. The Pixel 10a costs $599, and the Phone (3) beats it on screen, in charging speed, and in camera hardware. Our Phone (3) vs OnePlus 12 comparison still holds if you want the longer version.

Nothing’s accessories are still on Prime Day pricing

Nothing’s Prime Day prices are still live a week after the sale ended. Four are worth adding to the order.

Check Nothing Headphone (a) Price on Amazon

The Phone (3) plus the Ear (3a) comes to about $629. Until last month, the phone alone cost more than that.

Amazon marks the phone as a limited deal, and Nothing’s sale prices could end without notice. Honestly, if you were waiting for a sub-$600 Phone (3) that is not a one-day flash sale, this is it.

Redmi quietly launches Note 17 Pro Refreshed Edition, but the changes are hard to find

Redmi has launched a refreshed version of the Redmi Note 17 Pro in China; however, there’s not much new to write about. The phone comes in new colors and a different set of memory configurations, while everything else remains unchanged from the model that arrived in July, so there are no upgrades to the processor, battery, or cameras.

New colors and memory options

The refreshed Redmi Note 17 Pro comes in Sand Orange, Energetic Green, and Black. The first two are new additions, while Black carries over from the original model. The standard version also came in White, Sky Blue, and Nebula Purple, but those colors are no longer available in the refreshed lineup.

Redmi has also changed the available memory configurations. The new version comes in 6GB+256GB, 8GB+128GB, and 8GB+256GB options. By comparison, the original model offered 8GB+128GB, 8GB+256GB, 8GB+512GB, and 12GB+256GB configurations. The refreshed lineup drops the two higher-end options while adding a 6GB RAM variant with 256GB of storage.

OnePlus 16R tipped to bring back telephoto camera, feature Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, 165Hz display

OnePlus just launched its newest flagship in China, but a different model is already getting more attention for Indian buyers (and a few other markets). Fresh leaks suggest the OnePlus 16R is moving closer to production and could pack a solid mix of performance, battery life, and camera specs.

Three OnePlus 16 smartphones in black, silver, and copper colors against a dark background.

The OnePlus 16 dropped in China on October 12, 2026, with Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 chip, a display that goes up to 185Hz, a 200MP 1/1.4″ main sensor plus a 50MP 3x telephoto, and a massive 9,000mAh battery.

The catch? That phone isn’t expected to come to India or most global markets. That leaves the 16R as the likely flagship option for Indian customers.

Tipster Yogesh Brar recently shared that the OnePlus 16R has reached the Production Validation Test (PVT) stage. According to the leak, it’ll use last year’s flagship Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor. It’s also said to get a 165Hz display and a battery bigger than 7,500mAh. Brar mentioned the same hardware is being tested under the realme brand too.

Social media post detailing leaked specifications for the upcoming OnePlus 16R smartphone.

One of the more interesting upgrades seems to be the camera setup. The 16R is tipped to come with a triple 50MP rear camera system that includes a dedicated telephoto lens. That’s a welcome return of optical zoom after the OnePlus 15R skipped the telephoto entirely. Specific zoom levels and sensor details still aren’t out, but it should give the phone more flexibility for distant shots and portraits.

On the software side, it’s expected to run ColorOS 17 instead of OxygenOS 17. Earlier reports point to a possible India launch in December 2026 or early 2027.

If the leaks hold up, the OnePlus 16R could deliver flagship-grade raw performance, respectable zoom photography, a smooth high-refresh display, smooth gaming through frame rate interpolation, and strong battery life. That would make it a pretty compelling option in the premium segment.

Xiaomi Pad 9 Pro Max tops AnTuTu Android-Pad ranking, Xring O3 beats Snapdragon 8EE Gen 6

After the Xiaomi 18 Fold took the top spot in AnTuTu’s flagship smartphone rankings, its bigger sibling has now claimed the number one position on the Android tablet leaderboard.

The purple Xiaomi Pad 9 Pro Max tablet with keyboard and stylus on white.

According to the September 2026 results published on the AnTuTu website, the Xiaomi Pad 9 Pro Max posted the highest score among all tested Android tablets. The 13.3″ slate is powered by Xiaomi’s own Xring O3 chipset and managed to clearly outpace the iQOO Pad Ultra, even though the iQOO model uses Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 and comes with an active cooling fan.

The Xring O3 chipset is displayed on a dark, metallic circuit board background.

The Pad 9 Pro Max unit that was tested came with 16 GB of LPDDR6 RAM and 1 TB of storage. That faster memory type helped push the overall score higher. The iQOO Pad Ultra was tested in the same 16 GB / 1 TB configuration but used the slower LPDDR5X Ultra RAM, which explains part of the gap.

The rest of the top 10 is mostly filled with Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 tablets from Oppo, Lenovo, Vivo, and Honor. No MediaTek-powered devices made the list, though there aren’t many high-end MediaTek tablets on the market right now anyway.

AnTuTu benchmark chart showing the top ten highest performing Android tablets for September 2026.

The result shows that Xiaomi’s Xring O3 is becoming a real contender. Snapdragon is still the default choice for most premium Android devices this generation, but Xiaomi’s in-house chip has now topped both the smartphone and tablet AnTuTu charts in successive rankings. Tablets also give the chip more thermal headroom than foldable phones, which helps it sustain higher performance for longer.

Benchmarks don’t always tell the full story about day-to-day use, but consistent leadership on AnTuTu is still a clear signal of what the Xring O3 can do. The Pad 9 Pro Max’s strong showing further positions Xiaomi’s custom silicon as a serious alternative in the high-end Android space.

Intel, Qualcomm raise CPU prices — and AMD might be next

Intel, Qualcomm, AMD CPU price hike

The surge in AI demand is only pushing the CPU prices through the roof, as another price hike has been implemented. Major chips brands including Intel and Qualcomm have raised prices across multiple CPU families, and AMD will reportedly follow soon with a 10% price hike.

Intel, Qualcomm CPU prices touch new heights

Intel was expected to raise its CPU prices by up to 10% in October, but the latest report from Commercial Times suggests the latest price hike has already taken place in September. Citing supply chain sources, the report claims Intel has raised prices for multiple CPU lineups, with the high-end Panther Lake CPUs getting affected the most.

Panther Lake processors have reportedly become a lot costlier with a price hike of 15-20%. Not all of them may be affected, as the report suggests only those with a high-end iGPU have been hit with a price hike.

AMD CPUs are also getting a price hike very soon

AMD is also reportedly preparing for a price hike across some Ryzen and EPYC CPU families. The report suggests they could get costlier by approximately 10%.

We don’t know exactly when the new pricing for AMD CPUs will come into effect. However, given that Intel and Qualcomm have already done it and that the demand is still soaring, the announcement could be made anytime soon.

At the center of the price hike is TSMC, which handles the manufacturing for Intel, Qualcomm, and AMD. The Taiwanese giant is reportedly increasing its manufacturing prices further in 2027. According to Central News Agency, industry analysts forecast a price hike of 5-10% for advanced nodes, 10-15% for advanced packaging, and 3-5% for mature nodes. Plus, the rising cost of high-performance memory and storage adds more fuel to the fire.

OnePlus 15 vs OnePlus 16: What are the upgrades?

The OnePlus 16 brings several major hardware changes over the OnePlus 15, including a new 2nm Snapdragon chipset, a 9,000mAh battery, a 200MP main camera, and a display that supports a 165Hz refresh rate across the system. OnePlus has also updated the phone’s gaming hardware, cooling system, and software, although some features remain unchanged from the previous generation.

The two phones share a similar design, with a 6.78-inch flat display, narrow bezels, and a flat-sided frame. However, the OnePlus 16 makes a few trade-offs alongside its upgrades. Wired charging drops from 120W to 100W, while the periscope telephoto camera moves from 3.5x to 3x optical zoom.

For OnePlus 15 owners, the question is whether the larger battery, newer processor, and camera changes justify an upgrade. Here’s a detailed look at how the OnePlus 16 compares with the OnePlus 15 and what has changed between the two generations.

OnePlus 16 vs OnePlus 15

1. Performance

The processor is one of the biggest differences between the two phones. The OnePlus 15 uses Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, a 3nm chipset with two prime cores clocked at up to 4.6GHz. The OnePlus 16 moves to the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6, built on a 2nm process, with two prime cores reaching 5.0GHz and six performance cores running at up to 4.0GHz.

The new chip also uses an all-big-core CPU design and introduces Adreno Matrix Cores for graphics features such as upscaling and frame generation. Moving to a smaller manufacturing process can improve power efficiency, although the actual gains depend on how the chip performs under different workloads.

OnePlus has also updated its Wind Chaser Game Core. The first-generation system on the OnePlus 15 supports up to 165fps in compatible titles, while the newer version on the OnePlus 16 is rated for 185fps. OnePlus says the phone averaged 185fps in Delta Force during a three-hour test at high graphics settings. Actual results will depend on the game, settings, and operating temperature.

2. Cooling upgrades

Higher frame rates and sustained performance put more pressure on a phone’s cooling system, so OnePlus has revised the thermal hardware alongside the new processor.

The OnePlus 15 uses the Glacier cooling system, which combines a vapor chamber with an aerogel insulation layer. The OnePlus 16 gets an updated setup with a zoned vapor chamber, revised thermal gel, and a graphite layer rated at 2,100 W/m·K.

OnePlus claims the new vapor chamber is 40% more effective and the thermal gel is 50% better than before. The updated layout also directs heat away from areas where users typically hold the phone during landscape gaming. The company has retained the general approach of insulating the frame while improving heat dissipation around the processor.

3. 165Hz is no longer limited to games

The OnePlus 15 already has a high-refresh-rate display, but its 165Hz mode is primarily available in supported games and select applications. During normal use, the phone’s 6.78-inch LTPO OLED panel adjusts its refresh rate between 1Hz and 120Hz.

The OnePlus 16 changes this by extending 165Hz support across the system. Scrolling through menus, moving between apps, and navigating supported interfaces can now take advantage of the higher refresh rate rather than relying on it mainly for gaming. Meanwhile, compatible games can reach 185Hz.

Both phones retain a 1.5K resolution and a pixel density of 450ppi. They also support 1.07 billion colors, 100% DCI-P3 color gamut coverage, and peak brightness of 2,000 nits. The OnePlus 16, however, uses BOE’s new X4 luminescent material instead of the X3 in the OnePlus 15.

Another addition is the P4 display chip, which OnePlus says improves clarity during fast motion. The minimum brightness remains 1 nit, while PWM dimming runs at 3,840Hz. The newer phone also receives TÜV Rheinland Eye Comfort 6.0 certification, replacing version 5.0 on the OnePlus 15.

The higher refresh rate is the most visible change on paper, but it comes with a few qualifications. Not every app or game will run at 165Hz or 185Hz, and the difference will depend on the content being displayed. A higher refresh rate can make supported animations and scrolling look smoother, but it does not automatically improve image quality or resolution.

Both phones stick with a 1.5K panel rather than moving to QHD+. That means the OnePlus 16 prioritizes refresh rate and motion handling over a higher pixel count.

4. A larger 9,000mAh cell

There’s an upgrade in terms of battery as well. The OnePlus 15 has a 7,300mAh battery, while the OnePlus 16 now packs a 9,000mAh cell, roughly a 23% increase. Also worth noting is that the new battery uses two cells, each with a typical capacity of 4,500mAh.

OnePlus has paired the larger battery with OPPO’s energy management chip, which handles power draw. The company says the system helps maintain stable performance at low charge levels and allows the battery to retain at least 80% of its capacity after five years of use.

Here are the official estimates for several activities on the new phone:

  • Up to 23.8 hours of video playback.
  • Up to 20.6 hours of short-video browsing.
  • Up to 13.6 hours of navigation.
  • Up to 8.1 hours of gaming.

5. Charging is slower

The larger battery comes with a change that may disappoint some users. The OnePlus 15 supports 120W wired charging, while the OnePlus 16 reduces the maximum charging speed to 100W.

OnePlus claims the OnePlus 15 can charge to full in around 40 minutes. Meanwhile, the OnePlus 16 charges from 1% to 100% in 52 minutes.

Both phones support 50W wireless charging, although the compatible charger is sold separately. The OnePlus 16 also adds 27W wired reverse charging, allowing it to supply power to accessories such as earbuds and smartwatches.

Both phones also support bypass charging. It allows the phone to draw power directly from the charger during supported gaming sessions instead of routing all that power through the battery, helping reduce heat.

6. The main sensor jumps to 200MP

The OnePlus 16 makes a substantial change to its main camera, moving from the OnePlus 15’s 50MP Sony sensor to a 200MP sensor measuring 1/1.4 inches. And of course, you get OIS stabilization.

The higher resolution gives the phone more pixels to work with when cropping photos, although megapixel count alone does not determine image quality. Sensor size, image processing, exposure, and lens performance all contribute to the final result.

The telephoto camera sees a different kind of change. Both phones use a stabilized 50MP periscope camera, but the OnePlus 15 offers 3.5x optical zoom at an 85mm equivalent focal length. The OnePlus 16 moves to 3x optical zoom, using a 1/1.95-inch sensor, and it also supports 6x lossless zoom.

The 50MP ultra-wide camera remains unchanged, with a 116-degree field of view. The front camera, however, moves from 32MP on the OnePlus 15 to 50MP on the OnePlus 16.

OnePlus has also introduced a shooting option called “one shot, three crop.” It lets users capture a single 200MP photo and create wide, medium, and close compositions from the same image. Other additions include a wide-format shooting mode, a text-prompt AI retouching tool limited to 100 uses per month, and Master Mode for film-style tones.

Both phones use Oppo’s LUMO imaging system and support 4K video recording at 120fps with Dolby Vision. The hardware changes give the OnePlus 16 more flexibility for still photography, but its overall camera performance will need to be assessed through actual photos and videos.

7. Faster touch response and network handling

The OnePlus 16 also gets three updated custom chips for gaming: one for network performance, one for touch input, and another for motion sensing.

The new G3 network chip replaces the G2 in the OnePlus 15. OnePlus claims it reduces cellular gaming latency by 42.1%, improves Wi-Fi stability by 18.5%, and increases Wi-Fi network pickup by 11.5%. The phone also has 14 high-performance antennas and six anti-interference antennas.

For touch input, the company is using the Lingxi T3 chip. It supports multi-finger touch sampling at up to 520Hz in select games. OnePlus claims 43.27% better touch accuracy, 54% lower click latency in a MOBA game, and 36% lower swipe latency in a shooter.

The gyroscope sampling rate also increases from 200Hz on the OnePlus 15 to 800Hz on the OnePlus 16. OnePlus says six-axis calibration and temperature compensation help reduce drift, while start-stop latency is 13% lower.

The newer phone also introduces a one-tap Gun God Mode for games including Peacekeeper Elite, Delta Force, CrossFire, Dark Zone, Valorant Mobile, and Call of Duty. The mode adjusts frame rate, touch response, network priority, and cooling settings together. Pairing the phone with a clip-on cooler unlocks an additional X mode, which OnePlus says can further improve graphics quality and frame rates.

8. Design and software

The OnePlus 16 retains the general appearance of the OnePlus 15, including its flat-sided frame, squared corners, 6.78-inch display, and narrow 1.15mm bezels. Both phones have a shortcut key on the side and IP66, IP68, IP69, and IP69K ratings for dust and water resistance.

The color options change with the new generation. The OnePlus 15 comes in Sand Dune, Absolute Black, and Misty Purple, while the OnePlus 16 is available in Tomorrow Starlight, Mars Red, and Deep Black.

Tomorrow Starlight gets an interstellar lighting effect that illuminates for incoming calls, messages, and red envelope notifications in China. It can also respond to certain in-game actions and music, provided the necessary app permissions are enabled.

As for software, the OnePlus 15 shipped with ColorOS 16, while the OnePlus 16 ships with ColorOS 17 based on Android 17. OnePlus has retired OxygenOS for its newer phones, with ColorOS now serving as the software experience across the brand’s lineup.

ColorOS 17 introduces a refreshed interface and a memory management engine called Tide Engine. Other additions include AI Notes, which can combine information from multiple sources into one note, and an updated AI Tap feature.

The cross-device features carry over from the previous generation. Users can mirror their phone’s screen to a Mac or Windows PC through the OPPO Connect client. The phone can also handle iPhone calls and sync messages and notifications from an iPhone. Apple Watch users can manage calls, messages, and notifications on the watch, with fitness and health data syncing back to the phone.

Both phones also carry OnePlus’s claim of maintaining smooth performance in a 72-month aging test. The company has not provided independent results to verify how the two models compare after extended use.

10. Should you upgrade from the OnePlus 15 to the OnePlus 16?

The OnePlus 16 brings meaningful changes to performance, battery capacity, display refresh rate, and the main camera. Its 2nm processor has higher performance and efficiency claims, the battery grows by roughly 23%, and 165Hz support extends beyond gaming. The upgraded touch and network chips also give the newer model several advantages for competitive gaming.

However, the OnePlus 15 still has a few advantages of its own. Its 120W wired charging is faster than the 100W charging on the newer phone, and its telephoto camera offers higher optical magnification at 3.5x. The design and several other features also remain largely unchanged.

For existing OnePlus 15 owners, the upgrade makes the most sense if battery life, gaming performance, or the higher-resolution main camera are priorities. If your current phone already handles everyday tasks and gaming well, the changes may not be enough to justify replacing it immediately.

For anyone choosing between the two models for the first time, the OnePlus 16 has the newer hardware and larger battery, while the OnePlus 15 could be the better value if its price drops significantly.
