Vivo S19 Pro vs Vivo S18 Pro: What changed in 6 months?

The Vivo S18 Pro was launched in China back in December 2023 and nearly six months after the Vivo S19 Pro has also been unveiled. This latest device arrives as the successor to the S18 Pro. But what’s the difference between the two and what are all the upgrades? Find out in this list.

Vivo S19 Pro vs Vivo S18 Pro
Vivo S19 Pro (L) vs Vivo S18 Pro (R)

1. Vivo S19 Pro vs Vivo S18 Pro: Design & Display

A noticeable difference between the two devices is the design. The Chinese brand has refreshed the rear panel to feature a pill-shaped module with a circular camera island on the S19 Pro. To recall, the S18 Pro offered a rectangular module that housed a square camera island. However, you still get the twin LED flash setup that includes a regular dual-tone flash and a larger soft LED lighting.

The front side hasn’t received as big of a change. Both devices sport a tall 6.78-inch curved AMOLED that offers Full HD+ resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. The Vivo S18 Pro’s panel offers 2,800 nits of peak brightness, while the S19 Pro comes with an impressive 4,500 nits of peak brightness. Another upgrade is for water and dust resistance. This year’s model comes with an IP68/IP69K rating, while last year’s device comes with an IP54 rating.

2. Specifications: Same chip, but bigger battery

Vivo has brought back the MediaTek Dimensity 9200+, which was equipped on the Vivo S18 Pro, to the newer S19 Pro model as well. This is a high-end chip so you can expect similar performance between the two. The processor is also paired with up to 16GB of RAM and 512GB of internal storage.

Under the hood, the Vivo S18 Pro is powered by a 5,000mAh battery pack, which supports 18W fast charging. On the other hand, the Vivo S19 Pro houses a larger 5,500mAh battery pack with 80W wired fast charging as well. So you get a 10 percent bump in battery capacity with the newer model.

3. Camera

For optics, the two smartphones offer a 50-megapixel triple camera setup on the rear and a 50-megapixel selfie shooter on the front. The newer S19 Pro model gets an updated Sony IMX921 with OIS along with an 8-megapixel ultra wide angle lens and a 50-megapixel telephoto shooter that also offers OIS with 50x digital zoom.

Meanwhile, the S18 Pro offers the Sony IMX920 as the primary sensor with a 50-megapixel ultra wide angle lens, and a 12-megapixel telephoto shooter with 2x optical zoom. In other words, you can expect a slightly better primary camera with improvements in zoomed shots as well (at least on paper).

Pricing

After nearly half a year, the Vivo S19 series arrives more as a refresh than a complete successor. But there is still a slight price hike between the two lineups. The Vivo S18 Pro starts from 3,199 Yuan (roughly $450), while the S19 Pro starts from 3,299 Yuan (roughly $465). The former arrives in white, green, and black color variants, and the latter has Blue, Gray, and Green color options.

Huawei Mate 70 to challenge iPhone 16 series with AI features, says tipster

Huawei‘s upcoming flagship smartphone line is the Mate 70 series. While there haven’t been any official details, there have been constant leaks and rumors revealing possible details about the smartphones.

In the latest leak, Weibo tipster Smart Pikachu revealed that the Huawei Mate 70 series will retain the circular camera design of the Mate 60 series. This design has been a staple of the Mate line since the Mate 30 series, except for the Mate 50 series, which briefly used a plate-style module. It appears the Mate 70 series will follow the suit.

Additionally, the tipster revealed that the Huawei Mate 70 series will compete directly with the iPhone 16 series, not just in hardware features but also in terms of software features.

Smart Pikachu claims the Mate 70 series will feature advanced AI capabilities, focusing on AI imaging and “AI Life.” Apple is also rumored to introduce AI features in iOS 18 and the iPhone 16 series.

It will be interesting to see how these new phones compare on the AI front and whether or not it will help them gain market traction.

Besides this, we know very little about the Huawei Mate 70 series. Rumors so far suggest the line will use a new OmniVision CMOS sensor, a new Super Core Kirin chip that reportedly scores over 1 million points in benchmarking apps.

Moreover, the phones will likely boot on Huawei’s new operating system called HarmonyOS NEXT which won’t support Android apps altogether. Mate 70 is expected to be the first smartphone to come pre-installed with HarmonyOS NEXT out of the box.

Exclusive: Meizu Note 21 & Meizu Note 21 Pro to be launched soon

Known for its unique designs and innovative ideas, Meizu is making a name for itself with its smartphones. The company recently unveiled the Meizu 21 Note and Meizu 21 Pro. Now it’s preparing to introduce the Meizu Note 21 and Meizu Note 21 Pro with some exciting new features and a strange naming convention.

Meizu Note 21 and Meizu Note 21 Pro

The Gizmochina team is discovering the Meizu Note 21 and Meizu Note 21 Pro. The Meizu Note 21 Pro, spotted with model number “M412H“, is positioned as the premium option of the lineup, promising higher performance and advanced features. On the other hand, the Meizu Note 21 with model numbers “M411H” and “M411L” is likely a cropped version of the Pro model. The two different model numbers for the Note 21 suggest differences in memory and storage options, or maybe different versions for various regions.

One of the most important points about Meizu’s new Note series is the choice of chipset. The fact that the previous Meizu 21 series featured different flagship chipsets suggests that Meizu may continue this approach in the Note 21 series. Both Meizu Note 21 and Note 21 Pro are expected to be powerful and user-friendly and focus on delivering strong performance. With these models, Meizu aims to combine advanced technology and innovative solutions to meet the expectations of its users.

While specific details about camera specs, battery capacity, and software innovations for the Meizu Note 21 series are unknown, we can make some educated guesses based on past models. Meizu has a competitive track record in these areas, so the Note 21 series is likely to offer high-quality cameras for great photos and videos, as well as long-lasting battery life to ensure a seamless user experience.

The anticipation surrounding the Meizu Note 21 and Meizu Note 21 Pro is likely to create a stir in the tech world. While we don’t yet know the exact launch date, price, or detailed specifications, these new models are highly anticipated by fans. How the series will be received by users is a matter of great curiosity. We expect these upcoming models to further strengthen Meizu’s position in the smartphone market.

Exclusive: Xiaomi MIX FOLD 4 and Xiaomi MIX Flip satellite communication versions spotted

Xiaomi continues to attract attention with its innovative steps in the smartphone world. As expected, MIX FOLD 4 and MIX Flip satellite communication versions were spotted in our database. The technical specifications of the smartphones had already been leaked. Now, Gizmochina is leaking satellite communication versions of these models.

MIX FOLD 4 & MIX Flip satellite communication versions

Satellite communication differs from regular cellular communication as it connects through ground stations and satellites. This technology allows users to stay in contact, especially in areas with limited or no cellular coverage. While cellular networks are effective in densely populated areas such as cities and towns, it can be poor in mountainous, and rural areas. On the other hand, satellite communication provides reliable communication in all situations. That’s why it’s important for Xiaomi to launch devices with satellite communication. The MIX Flip and MIX FOLD 4 were confirmed with 2 different model numbers: 2405AVPB7C and 24076PX3BC. Of course, these models are exclusive to China.

Leaked Specifications of MIX FOLD 4 and MIX Flip

MIX Flip will be Xiaomi’s first Flip model. It will come with a 1.5k resolution display and the second screen will be located just below the cameras. Both smartphones will be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset. The main camera will be a 50MP Ovx8000, also known as Light Hunter 800, and will be accompanied by a 60MP Omnivision OV60A telephoto camera. Xiaomi MIX Flip’s rear cameras will consist of these two sensors. In addition to these two cameras, the Xiaomi MIX Fold 4 will be accompanied by a 13MP OV13B ultra wide-angle camera and a 10MP Samsung S5K3K1 telephoto camera.

The satellite communication versions of Xiaomi MIX FOLD 4 and Xiaomi MIX Flip could pioneer a new standard technology in the smartphone world. These models will provide users with the ultimate experience, enabling users to stay in touch anytime and anywhere, while offering wide coverage and seamless connectivity. Expected to be unveiled in early July, these innovative devices are highlighted by their superior technical features.

Oppo Reno 12F with big battery & 45W fast charging visits FCC ahead of launch

Oppo had launched the Reno 11F earlier this year as a new mid-range smartphone model. Now, it appears that a successor to this device is also in the works. A fresh certification sighting has confirmed the Reno 12F along with some of its features. So here are all the details.

Oppo Reno 12F spotted on FCC

Oppo Reno 12F

The Chinese tech giant’s Reno 12F was seen on the FCC certification carrying the CPH2637 model number. This upcoming smartphone was listed with the VCB4JAUH and BLPA79 model numbers for its battery pack and charging adapter. On the TUV Rheinland database, the battery capacity and fast charging rates were also revealed. The BLPA79 is a 4,870mAh cell, which will likely be rated as 5,000mAh on the Reno 12F.

Oppo Reno 12F

Meanwhile, the UL Demko certification confirmed that the VCB4JAUH charging adapter is a 45W wired fast charger. Just earlier today (31st May 2024), the Reno 12F was spotted on multiple certifications in different countries as well, which includes Malaysia’s SIRIM, India’s BIS, and UAE’s SIRIM. The Camera FV-5 database also confirmed some of its camera specifications, which is a 50-megapixel primary camera on the back with an f/1.8 aperture and 4mm focal length. The front houses a 50-megapixel camera with an f/2.4 aperture and a 3.2mm focal length.

Samsung Galaxy F55 5G: 5 Things You Should Know About This Phone

Samsung Galaxy F55 5G

Samsung Galaxy F55 5G recently debuted in India with many exciting upgrades (that I’ll reveal later). If you’re considering buying this smartphone, make sure you know these 5 things to make a better purchase decision.

1. Standout Design

Samsung Galaxy F55 5G rear design

The Samsung Galaxy F55 5G with a vegan leather panel on the back appears slightly different in the crowded smartphone space filled with glass and metal panels. This adds a premium feel to the device, which is rarely seen among mid-range phones.

Because of the vegan leather finish, it offers a comfortable, grippy surface, making your phone less likely to slip out of your hands. Another plus point is that devices with vegan leather panels are more resistant to scratches and fingerprints than regular glass panels.

2. Impressive Software Support

Samsung Galaxy F55 5G software

Samsung is one of the best brands that offer extended software support to its smartphones. While many brands struggle to give 3 OS updates to their high-end devices, Samsung promises an impressive 4 OS updates to their mid-range phones, including the Galaxy F55 5G.

The Galaxy F55 5G ships with Android 14 out of the box with the One UI 6.1 custom skin at the top. So, it will get OS updates until Android 18.

Samsung’s software support is unmatched to most Android brands. It had the best software policy for Galaxy devices until Google announced 7 OS upgrades to the Pixel 8 series last year. However, that’s been matched by the Galaxy S24 series launched earlier this year.

3. Smooth AMOLED Display

Galaxy F55 5G Display

The newest Galaxy F-series phone features an AMOLED display, you’d usually see in most mid-range phones. It’s a 6.7-inch screen with 1080 x 2400 pixels Full HD+ resolution and 120Hz refresh rate support for extra smoothness.

There’s a small punch-hole-style selfie camera. The display is flat with slim bezels all around for better content consumption. And the 1000 peak nits brightness should offer excellent visibility outdoors.

4. Performance-Friendly Device With Plenty of Storage

Samsung Galaxy F55 5G performance

The performance of Galaxy F55 5G is ensured by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 processor. It’s a popular octa-core chip among mid-range phones that smoothly handles day-to-day tasks, as well as casual gaming.

The Snapdragon chip is built using Samsung’s 4nm process. It consists of one Cortex-A710 core clocked at 2.4 GHz, three Cortex-A710 cores clocked at 2.36 GHz, and the remaining four are Cortex-A510 with a clock speed of 1.8 GHz.

Samsung Galaxy F55 5G is offered in three storage options: 8GB + 128GB, 8GB + 256GB, and 12GB + 256GB. If the built-in storage isn’t sufficient, the microSD card slot can be used for up to 1TB of additional storage.

5. Fast Charging Support

Samsung Galaxy F55 5G charging

Samsung Galaxy F55 5G is the first F-series phone to support 45W fast charging. Only a few Galaxy devices support 45W charging, and the F55 is one of them. However, it doesn’t support wireless or reverse wireless charging.

The device ships with a 5,000 mAh battery that should last for a day, at least.

These are the top things to know about the Samsung Galaxy F55 5G. For more details, check out the spec sheet below.

The earlier TCL 40 NXTPAPER model featured a FullHD resolution screen with a 90Hz refresh rate. Additionally, the company offers the NXTPAPER feature in some tablets as well.

TCL’s display innovations are remarkable; however, the phones they introduce may not necessarily boast high-end specs. For example, the regular TCL 50 5G model came with a MediaTek Dimensity 6100+ chipset and only offers a variant with 4GB of RAM. While we lack specific details on specs, the upcoming TCL 50L and TCL 50 Pro NXTPAPER models may also feature a MediaTek chipset.

Oppo Pad 3, OnePlus Pad 2, OnePlus Watch and other products launch reportedly postponed

Oppo is rumored to be working on a new flagship tablet called the Pad 3, which is expected to be rebranded as the OnePlus Pad 2 for the global market.

However, reliable tech tipster Digital Chat Station revealed today that the launch of both devices, along with several other IoT products, has been postponed.

The postponed products include the Oppo Pad 3 and the OnePlus Pad, both powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip, the OnePlus Watch featuring the Snapdragon W5, new color options for the OnePlus Buds 3, and the flagship Enco X3 earphones.

The reason for the delays is unclear, but the news is surprising as the Oppo Pad 3 was rumored to launch next month in China.

The Pad 3 is expected to feature a 12.1-inch LCD panel with a 3K resolution (3000 x 2120 pixels) and a 144Hz refresh rate. The display is likely to have a 7:5 screen ratio and a peak brightness of 900 nits.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor will be paired with up to 16GB of RAM and 512GB of internal storage. The device will have a large 9,510mAh battery with 67W wired fast charging support. It will run on the Android 14-based ColorOS custom skin.

Digital Chat Station previously revealed that the Pad 3 will have an all-metal body with a sleek design. For photography, the tablet will feature an 8-megapixel front camera and a 13-megapixel rear camera. The Oppo Pad 3 will also support the Oppo Pencil 2 improved with a linear motor, say rumors.

Vivo S19 vs Vivo S18: Read all the upgrades and what to expect from Vivo V40

Earlier this week, Vivo unveiled the Vivo S19 series of smartphones in China. The lineup has two phones, such as the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3-powered Vivo S19 and the S19 Pro, which features the Dimensity 9200+ chip. The S18 and S18 Pro, which debuted in December 2023 in China, were also equipped with the same chipsets. Nevertheless, S19 offers changes in other departments like design, display, camera, battery, and more. This post mainly focuses on all the upgrades that the S19 offers over the S18.

Vivo S19 vs Vivo S18
Vivo S19 vs Vivo S18 comparison

1. Design

The Vivo S19 offers several improvements in design as compared to the Vivo S18. The predecessor model has a curved-edge OLED panel, a rectangular camera module featuring a square-shaped LED studio-light LED, and an IP54-rated chassis. It has a thickness of 7.5mm and weighs 185 grams.

On the other hand, the Vivo S19 adopts a flat display, an oval camera module with a small ring LED flash, and an IP64 rating for better durability. The S19 measures only 7.2mm in thickness and weighs 193 grams.

2. Improved display

Both the Vivo S18 and S19 come with a 6.78-inch display. However, while the former has a curved-edge screen, the S19 gets a flat panel. Both support a 1.5K resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate, and 2160Hz PWM dimming. While the predecessor offers up to 2800 nits of peak brightness, the S19 offers up to 4500 nits of peak brightness.

3. New primary camera

The Vivo S18 and S19 have an autofocus-enabled 50-megapixel Samsung S5KJN1 front-facing camera. Both phones have a pair of soft-light LEDs on the front for flash.

Both phones have a 50-megapixel + 8-megapixel (OmniVision OV08D10) dual-camera system on the back. The S18 has an OIS-enabled OmniVision OV50E 50-megapixel main camera, whereas the S19 has an OIS-assisted 50-megapixel Samsung S5KGNJ. Instead of a square-shaped studio-level LED flash available on the S18, the S19 uses a circular type of LED flash.

4. Bigger battery, slight improvement in performance

The Vivo S18 houses a 5,000mAh battery with 80W fast charging, whereas the S19 packs a bigger 6,000mAh high-density battery with the same charging capabilities. Despite packing a larger battery, the S19 (7.2mm) is thinner than the S18 (7.5mm). In terms of weight, the S19 is slightly heavier by 8 grams as compared to the S18, which weighs 185 grams.

The Vivo S18 came in LPDDR4x + UFS 2.2 combinations, such as 8GB+256GB, 12GB+256GB, 12GB+512GB, and 16GB+512GB. The S19 is available in the same configurations, but there are a few changes, as follows:

  • LPDDR4x + UFS 2.2: 8GB+256GB | 12GB+256GB | 12GB+512GB
  • LPDDR5 + UFS 3.1: 16GB+256GB

Both phones are powered by the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 chipset.

5. Vivo S19 gets an IR blaster

The Vivo S18 and S19 both lack a dual speaker system for stereo output. However, a new addition to the S19 is an IR blaster, which allows it to be used as a remote control for a variety of home appliances.

In terms of pricing, the Vivo S18 was priced between 2,299 Yuan (~$325) and 2,999 Yuan (~$420). In comparison, the S19 costs between 2,499 Yuan (~$350) and 3,299 Yuan (~$465).

6. What to expect from Vivo V40?

The Vivo S18 and Vivo V30 are similar phones with identical designs and almost the same specifications. While the S18 has a 50-megapixel + 8-megapixel dual-camera system, the Vivo V30, which is available in global markets, has a 50-megapixel (main) + 50-megapixel (ultra-wide) dual-camera system.

The Vivo V40 has already been spotted with the V2348 model number on certification platforms, such as the GCF and Bluetooth SIG. There is a possibility that the Vivo V40 could be a tweaked version of the S19 with an identical design and better cameras.

The Vivo V30 series was announced in February of this year. Hence, it is likely that the Vivo V40 lineup may debut in the third quarter of this year.

Xiaomi 15 series to feature custom OmniVision main camera

Xiaomi‘s next flagship series, the Xiaomi 15, is expected to launch sometime in October 2024. Although official details are scarce, we’ve been hearing about these phones through various leaks and rumors.

Recently, a reliable Chinese leaker, Digital Chat Station, shared some new details about the Xiaomi 15 and Pro camera systems. According to the tipster, both of them are expected to feature a customized OmniVision main camera.

The entire series is said to have a 50MP 1/1.3” sensor with a wide aperture. That means that all three lenses on the phone will use a 50MP sensor, corroborating earlier leaks.

Additionally, there will be a new multi-layer nano ALD ultra-low-reflection coating to improve light transmittance, picture clarity, and texture while reducing glare and ghosting.

The Xiaomi 15 and 15 Pro are also expected to be the first smartphones powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4, Qualcomm’s next flagship mobile processor. The standard version will likely have a smaller, flat display, while the Pro model might feature a curved screen with uniform bezels.

The Xiaomi 15 recently made its appearance in Europe’s EEC certification with model number 24129PN74G. That indicates the company has also started taking approval for their next flagships for the global market as well.

Additionally, a previous report revealed that the Xiaomi 15 series will be more expensive than its predecessor. This price increase is likely due to rising costs of the chip, memory, and other materials.

Further details about the Xiaomi 15 series, including display specifications, battery capacities, and pricing, have yet to be revealed. However, these leaks offer a glimpse into what Xiaomi’s next flagship smartphones might offer.
