Apple MacBook Air 15-inch model’s demand lower than the company’s expectations

Recently, Apple unveiled the anticipated 15-inch model of the MacBook Air, which is similar to the regular 13-inch model of the MacBook Air but with a bigger screen.

While the device was highly anticipated for a couple of years, customers’ actual demand for the 15-inch MacBook Air is not matching up. In fact, the sales numbers are so low that the company is cutting production.

According to the latest report coming from DigiTimes, sources in the supply chain claim that sales for the new 15-inch MacBook Air are as much as 50 percent lower than the Cupertino-based tech giant’s predictions.

The report further adds that because of the low demand, the company is scaling back production, but it is not yet known if Apple has made the move to lower the production numbers or is still in consideration.

This is the first model of the Apple MacBook Air to feature a larger 15-inch display. Prior to this, users would need to purchase the more expensive MacBook Pro models if they wanted a larger than 13-inch screen.

Apple’s new 15-inch MacBook Air, launched last month at WWDC, carries a starting price of $1,299. It continues with the same design and M2 chip as the regular model but with a larger display and two extra speakers.

iFixit Teardown Reveals What’s Inside Apple’s New 15-Inch MacBook Air

Have you ever wondered what’s inside your phone, computer, or tablet? If so, you’re not alone. Many people are curious about the inner workings of their devices, but don’t have the tools or know-how to open them up and take a look. That’s where iFixit comes in. iFixit is a website and online community that provides repair guides, parts, and tools for a wide range of devices. Most recently, the company published a teardown video for the 15-inch MacBook Air.

According yo the iFixit video, 15-inch MacBook Air has a similar internal design as the 13-inch model, with the only notable difference being two extra speakers. The teardown reveals that the laptop has a single 256GB NAND chip for the base model, which can result in slower SSD read and write speeds compared to 512GB, 1TB, or 2TB models. The RAM and storage are also not user-upgradeable, which is in line with other Apple laptops.

Unfortunately, even though the motherboard of Apple’s computers looks like a work of art when you open them up, there isn’t much to see. The company receives serious criticisms, particularly on the issues of upgradability and repairability, and users have to pay quite high fees when there’s a malfunction. Apple’s 15-inch MacBook Air officially goes on sale; price starts at $1,299

A few days ago, at WWDC 2023, Apple officially announced the highly-anticipated 15-inch MacBook Air. Now, the device is finally available for purchase through Apple’s official website and select retailers.

The pricing of the 15-inch MacBook Air starts at $1,299, but students and teachers can get a $100 discount. The laptop is being offered in four color options — Midnight, Starlight, Silver, and Space Gray.

The newly launched 15-inch MacBook Air comes with several upgrades compared to the 13-inch model, including a larger 15.3-inch Liquid Retina Display that offers a screen resolution of 2560 x 1600 pixels and a peak brightness of 500nits. The display is True Tone enabled, which means that it automatically adjusts the white balance to match the ambient light.

Under the hood, the device is powered by the Apple M2 chip which is a significant upgrade compared to the M1 chip, offering a faster CPU, GPU, and Neural Engine. As per the company’s claims, the new chipset is up to 18% faster than the M1 chip.

It also comes with a six-speaker audio system and a FaceTime HD camera. Similar to the other models, this one too has a notch on top of the display and features a flat-edge chassis. In terms of memory, the device can be configured with up to 24GB of RAM and 2TB of internal storage.

The countdown has begun for Apple’s annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), which is set to take place on June 5th. At the event, the company will introduce new versions of its existing software, such as iOS and macOS. However, some leaks suggest that there will be a surprise this year, hinting at a Mixed Reality headset. It seems that the American tech giant has more than one surprise in store, as Apple might also be preparing to announce the long-rumored 15-inch MacBook Air at WWDC 2023. Here are the details…

Apple to Introduce 15-Inch MacBook Air and More at WWDC 2023

The 15-inch MacBook Air could be one of the most controversial devices in internet history. Rumors about this laptop emerge before almost every Apple event, but it never materializes. However, Mark Gurman, a well-respected figure in the tech press known for Apple leaks, has once again ignited hopes for the “legendary” product.

According to Gurman, during Apple’s WWDC 2023 event, the company will introduce a new laptop alongside iOS 17, macOS 14, watchOS 10, tvOS 17, and the eagerly awaited mixed reality headset. This 15-inch MacBook Air will come with the M2 processor, just like the 13-inch model, and will have various GPU configurations. Unfortunately, that’s all the information available about the device. It is not known what other features it will have or how it will differ from the standard model besides screen size.

If we were to make a simple guess, we could say there might be a difference in screen resolution to maintain the PPI ratio. Considering how small the MagicBoard is, which houses all the hardware components of MacBooks, we could potentially see a significant improvement in battery life. In fact, the 15-inch MacBook Air could become the laptop model with the longest battery life of all time, thanks to its low power consumption and large battery. However, all of this is just speculation at this point.

As a user of a 13.3-inch M1 MacBook Air, I personally prefer smaller laptops. Portability is the most important feature for me in a computer. However, I’m sure some users would appreciate a larger screenl. Still, it’s worth noting that the long-standing rumors may not go beyond just being rumors at this event as well.

Apple MacBook Air 13-Inch and 15-Inch Models Powered by M3 Chip Could Launch at WWDC

Apple has been working on its new MacBook Air models for some time and now we finally have information about the potential launch timeframe for the laptops.

According to Mark Gurman of Bloomberg, the Cupertino-based technology giant is expected to launch the new MacBook Air 13-inch and 15-inch models in June at WWDC.

The Apple M2 chipset and the MacBook Air models powered by it were announced at WWDC last year, so it won’t be a surprise if the company continues the launch the new M3 chip and MacBook Air models at this year’s WWDC.

A report from 9to5Mac reveals that the 13-inch MacBook Air, with codename J513, is already in the works and will come powered by the yet unannounced M3 chipset. The company will also launch a 15-inch MacBook Air with the codename J515, powered by the M3 processor.

Earlier, there were reports about the MacBook Air 15-inch model powered by the M2 and M2 Pro chips to launch in April, but new reports indicate that there won’t be any such models. It appears that the 15-inch MacBook Air will get the entry-level M3 chip similar to the 13-inch model, with an 8-core CPU.

There is also no evidence that there will be a more powerful version of the chips for the upcoming MacBook Air models, like the M3 Pro. Apart from the MacBook Air, the company is also expected to launch an updated 13-inch MacBook Pro powered by the M3 chipset.

Apple’s 15-Inch MacBook Air Rumored To Launch Later This Year

Apple has been working on revamping its MacBook Air lineup by introducing two new models, including a smaller 12-inch model and a larger 15-inch model.

Now, a new report from Mark Gurman of Bloomberg claims that the 12-inch model isn’t coming this year, but the 15-inch MacBook Air is expected to go official later this year.

As of now, not much has been revealed about this upcoming 15-inch MacBook Air. However, display analyst Ross Young had previously said that Apple would start production of 15.5-inch display panels for the MacBook Air in the first quarter of 2023. If the timeline remains unchanged, then the device could be officially released as soon as this spring.

Coming to the design, we do not expect the company to launch a redesigned model, given that the MacBook Air was recently updated. So, the device will pretty much have the same design as the current models.

Internally, the laptop could be powered by the M2 chip or the M2 Pro processor, which Apple has not yet announced. The new M2 series chips are expected to be announced soon, which will power a few more Mac devices this year.

The 12-inch MacBook Air, which was previously stated to launch this year or in 2024, is no longer in the company’s short-term plans, which means that the device isn’t coming anytime soon.
