Adobe has opened the public beta of Firefly AI Assistant inside Adobe Firefly, adding a chat-based creative agent to its AI studio. The feature is rolling out globally and is available to users on Creative Cloud Pro and paid Firefly plans, including Pro, Pro Plus, and Premium tiers.

Firefly AI Assistant is built to turn text instructions into multi-step creative workflows across Adobe apps. Users can describe an output in natural language, while the assistant coordinates the required tools across Firefly, Photoshop, Lightroom, Premiere Pro, Illustrator, and other Creative Cloud apps.

The system is powered by Adobe’s Creative Agent technology. It can handle tasks such as turning product photos into social media assets, building mood boards from briefs, refining headshots, preparing product mockups, creating social media variations, and running batch edits.

The assistant gives users access to more than 60 pro-grade tools, including Generative Fill, Auto Tone, Remove Background, Vectorize, and Presets. It supports creation and editing across photos, videos, and design assets.

A key part of the update is workflow visibility. Adobe says users can see the process step by step, refine the result, redirect the assistant, or take manual control at any point. Finished files can be saved directly to Creative Cloud storage for use across Adobe’s apps.

Adobe also shared examples of how the assistant may be used. A social media creator can upload one image and ask for versions suited to Instagram, TikTok, Snapchat, and Facebook, with adjusted crops and layouts while preserving the main composition. A designer can upload a logo and packaging image, then have the assistant place the design on the product by adjusting scale, lighting, alignment, and perspective. Follow-up prompts can be used to fine-tune the final result.

Adobe is also working to bring its creative agent capabilities to third-party AI platforms, including Anthropic’s Claude. The company says this will let users access Adobe tools inside external AI environments. During the public beta, eligible users will receive daily refreshing generative credits for use with Firefly AI Assistant.

Adobe is finally putting its video editor into your pocket. The company has announced a mobile version of Premiere, reworked from the ground up for phones and tablets, with a focus on creators who live on TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube. The app launches September 30 on iPhones and iPads, with Android support on the way.

This isn’t just a shrunken-down desktop app. The mobile app has a touch-first interface that makes trimming clips, layering audio, and adding effects much easier on smaller screens. Videos can be cut and exported in up to 4K HDR, which should be more than enough for both casual and professional content.

The real draw is Adobe’s AI toolkit. Users can generate sound effects with a simple text prompt, clean up messy audio, or pull free background tracks from Adobe Stock. There are also one-tap exports for Instagram Reels, TikTok, and YouTube Shorts, meaning creators won’t have to wrestle with settings before posting. And here’s the best part: unlike some free apps, Adobe isn’t slapping watermarks on the finished product.

Premiere Mobile projects also sync with Premiere Pro on desktop, so creators can start an edit on their phone and finish it later on a Mac or PC. That flexibility could give Adobe an edge over many of its rivals.

Apple users can pre-register for the September 30 rollout, while Android users will have to wait a bit longer. Adobe has launched a new experimental camera app for iPhone called Project Indigo. Built by Adobe’s research team, the app is free to use and gives mobile photographers more control over their shots. It’s designed to improve image quality and deliver a more natural look, similar to what you’d get from a DSLR. This article breaks down what Project Indigo is all about, including its main features, how the photos turn out, editing options, and special tools.

What is Adobe Project Indigo?

Project Indigo is available for iPhones (12 Pro and newer, or 14 and newer for non-Pro models). It gives users full manual control over the camera and uses computational photography to produce high-quality images. It’s meant for users who want better results than default phone cameras offer, without needing separate editing apps or extra equipment.

Key Features

Indigo includes manual settings for focus, shutter speed, ISO, exposure compensation, and white balance (with control over both temperature and tint). It also lets users control how many frames are captured per shot.

When you press the shutter, Indigo captures up to 32 images in rapid succession. It then aligns and merges them to reduce noise, recover detail in shadows, and preserve highlight information. This approach produces photos with better dynamic range and lower noise, especially in low light.

Indigo supports JPEG and DNG (raw) formats. JPEGs are processed with Indigo’s natural look. DNGs retain the same look as a profile but preserve the original sensor data, offering more flexibility during editing. Both file types benefit from Indigo’s multi-frame image processing.

HDR and Night Mode

Indigo handles high dynamic range well. It stores both SDR and HDR versions in each JPEG using a gain map, allowing compatible screens and software to display either one. Night mode uses longer exposures and more frames to deliver cleaner low-light shots. The app detects if the phone is stable and adjusts capture settings to improve quality without needing a tripod.

Long Exposure and Super-Resolution

With the Long Exposure setting, Indigo captures multiple frames and adds them together to create effects like motion blur or light trails. This works best with the phone on a tripod and outputs both JPEG and DNG files.

Indigo also improves zoomed-in shots using multi-frame super-resolution. If you zoom past the camera’s optical limit, the app takes several slightly shifted frames and merges them to increase detail. This reduces the usual loss in sharpness that comes with digital zoom.

Natural Look and Less Processing

Indigo avoids the heavily processed style of most phone cameras. It uses minimal tone mapping, moderate contrast and color adjustments, and less aggressive sharpening and smoothing. This keeps images looking more natural, especially when viewed on larger screens. Details like textures and lighting are preserved instead of being flattened.

Editing and Lightroom Integration

Indigo is fully integrated with Adobe Lightroom. After taking a photo, users can send it directly to Lightroom Mobile. If both JPEG and DNG were saved, Indigo opens the DNG by default. Lightroom recognizes Indigo’s embedded profiles and HDR data, giving users full control over editing without losing image quality.

Tech Preview and What’s Ahead

Project Indigo also includes experimental tools under a Tech Preview section. One such feature is reflection removal, which allows users to take photos through glass and remove glare with one tap. Adobe is also working on adding portrait mode, panorama, video, and advanced features like exposure and focus bracketing.

The multi-billion dollar acquisition deal of Figma by Adobe was expected to deliver a windfall for the staff of the software firm. However, after regulators failed to be convinced that the Adobe-Figma merger would not equate to a creativity software monopoly, the deal was off. On December 18, the US employees of Figma were notified via Slack and email notifications that the $20 billion deal was dead.

Figma called its 1,300 staff back from vacation to attend an emergency optional town hall that reviewed the future of the company in the aftermath of the scuttled Adobe deal. The town hall lasted 60 minutes and CEO Dylan Field said that the decision to call off the merger was jointly reached by both companies.

Figma will receive a $1 billion breakup fee from Adobe but it is unclear when this payment will be made. A Figma spokesperson said that the money will be used to accelerate the impact but the allocation template was yet to be decided.

Adobe and Figma failed to convince European Union lawmakers about the propriety of the deal. There had been a suspicion that the merger could create a creative software monopoly and this is a red flag for regulators. The talks extended for 15 months and Figma stated that despite thousands of hours spent with regulators detailing differences between both companies, they no longer see a path toward regulatory approval.

Figma would have gotten a huge windfall from the Adobe deal if it had sailed through. Co-founder and CEO Dylan Field would have gotten a 10% stake worth $2 billion. Employees were also expecting substantial payouts that would have enabled some of them to become homeowners. Figmates (as Figma staff are called internally) were expecting over 40% of their salaries when the deal closed, it was reported.

A cloud of disappointment has thus pervaded the Figma workforce after the announcement, but they are now bracing for the future. Figma remains a stable company with a positive outlook and decent performance in 2023. the company recently launched an innovative design keyboard. With its innovations, the company could therefore still get a big breakthrough in the next couple of years.

Adobe’s Lightroom app for Android has received a major update, adding support for HDR images. This means that users can now edit and export their HDR images directly from the app, without having to use a separate program.

However, there are a few limitations to this new feature. First, it is only available on devices running Android 14. Second, it is currently only supported on a limited number of devices, including the Google Pixel 7 phone and later.

To use the new HDR feature, simply open an HDR image in Lightroom and go into Edit mode. Then, select the Light tool and scroll to the bottom to toggle on the Edit in HDR Mode option. Now, tap the HDR logo at the top right to view the HDR histogram, which will help you control the distribution of brightness in your image.  

You can also enable options like Visualize HDR and Preview for SDR display to see how your changes will look on different devices. Finally, fine-tune settings like Exposure, Contrast, and Clarity in SDR Settings. Once you’re happy with your adjustments, tap the share icon to export your HDR photo and choose the file type.

To note, Lightroom for Android currently supports three color spaces for HDR photos: HDR sRGB (Rec. 709), HDR P3, and HDR Rec. 2020. These are enhanced versions of sRGB, Display P3, and Rec. 2020 color spaces, each with different color gamuts.

The addition of HDR support to Lightroom for Android is great news for Android users who enjoy taking and editing HDR photos. However, it is unfortunate that it is currently limited to such a small number of devices. Hopefully, Adobe will expand support to more devices in the future.

Additionally, it can replace objects with AI-created alternatives, like changing outfits using text commands.

Here are a few examples of how Project Stardust can be used:

• Remove unwanted objects from photos: Easily remove people, objects, or even blemishes from photos without any manual editing required. For example, you could remove a photobomber from a vacation photo or a blemish from a portrait.
• Change the background of a photo: Replace the background of a photo with a new one, or remove the background altogether to create a transparent PNG image. For example, you could replace the background of a headshot with a professional studio background or create a transparent image of a product to add to a website.
• Change the color or style of objects in a photo: Change the color of a car, the style of a piece of clothing, or even the hairstyle of a person in a photo. For example, you could change the color of your car to match your new outfit or give your pet a new hairstyle.

Adobe Express now supports generative AI tools

With the addition of this new technology, the brand is promising that users will gain access to tools for their convenience. So now, Adobe Express will let make quick and easy templates to create social graphics, posters, edit videos, and much more. This feature is being rolled out with the latest version of Express on desktop PCs for free. Although, the company plans on releasing this feature to mobile users soon.

The Adobe Express Premium plan, which is a 9.99 US Dollar monthly subscription, is also included for no additional cost. Furthermore, Adobe has also released an Express enterprise tier, which is also available for larger teams. Adobe Express had originally released back in 2021, but it has been working on the new generative AI tool since June of this year.

There are a number of new features that let’s use to generate custom images, text effects, and more. Users can add these to their projects by using the text prompts in over 100 languages. Other functionality includes automatic background revival and simple character animations. Adobe guarantees that Firefly is commercially safe for companies to use since the model is trained on Adobe’s proprietary content.

Adobe has incorporated AI into popular software such as Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator, speeding up the image and text effects generation process. Creators whose work is utilized by these tools will be compensated. Nvidia unveiled “Picasso”, a service using AI to create images, videos, and 3D applications based on text descriptions. Nvidia trained Picasso on images licensed from Getty Images, Shutterstock, and Adobe, with plans to pay royalties.

Adobe, Nvidia AI imagery systems aim to resolve copyright questions

These developments represent a significant milestone in the ongoing debate between copyright holders and emerging technology. Image-generation technology is often trained on billions of images, but the legality of this usage is not always evident. Getty Images sued Stability AI earlier this year for copying over 12 million images without permission.

Getty Images CEO Craig Peters praised the collaboration with Nvidia as a testament to responsible AI development and the unique nature of Getty Images content. Peters emphasized the importance of using permissioned data, visuals, and respecting individual privacy. Adobe’s AI-enhanced feature, “Firefly,” allows users to generate images, illustrations, or videos using textual descriptions.

As the AI has been trained on Adobe Stock images, openly licensed content, and older content with expired copyrights, the generated creations are safe for commercial use. Adobe also supports a universal “do not train” tag, enabling photographers to request their content not be used in training models.

Adobe’s Ely Greenfield emphasized the importance of making the system creator-friendly. If users request an image in a specific artist’s style, the system will not replicate the style but offer the artist an opportunity to sell the right to use their style. Nvidia’s Picasso AI-image generator is part of a suite of AI-powered cloud products introduced at the GTC Developer Conference. Nvidia’s Greg Estes noted the importance of working with partners like Getty to ensure that generated images have a clear provenance.

Jun-Yan Zhu, assistant professor at Carnegie Mellon’s Robotics Institute, suggested that photographers and artists could potentially benefit from using AI technology to license their artistic styles. Getty’s Peters highlighted the importance of respecting intellectual property rights and fairly compensating artists for their work, especially for commercial purposes.

Adobe recently stopped the support for the Flash Player plugin. The company said that it will start blocking content running on it. Now, Windows is finally rolling out an update to remove the Adobe Flash Player installed on the OS permanently.

As reported by Windows Latest, Microsoft is rolling out the update to Windows 10 devices running on version 20H2, 2004, and older. My version is 1909 and I got the update as you can see below.

The update itself is pretty self-explanatory. With the Windows 10 KB4577586 rollout, it removes the Adobe Flash Player installed on the Windows 10 Operating Systems. Microsoft says that once done, you cannot uninstall the update.

However, you can restore the entire Windows version to a specific Restore Point that you have created in the past to get it back. Microsoft says that you can also try reinstalling windows except for this patch to retain the Flash Player.

Also, do note that the Flash Player installed manually won’t get removed with this update. Only that installed on Microsoft’s OS(incl. Edge) will get wiped. If you have a browser plugin on any other third-party browser(not Chrome, Firefox as they removed it too), you will be able to use it.

That said, we wouldn’t recommend you doing any of it as Adobe has clearly said that the Flash Player might be subjected to vulnerabilities, malware, and security risks in the future. Anyway, the update is rolling along with February 2021 Cumulative Updates and it should reach everyone in a few days.

Additionally, if you are someone who is still using an older OS like Windows 7 for some reason, we suggest you upgrade to Windows 10 to remain secure as Microsoft has already ended support for it.

Back in 2017, Adobe had announced that it would be ending the support of its Flash browser plug in by the end of 2020. Now, the company has officially ended the software’s support and will begin blocking content running on Flash Player on 12th January 2020.

Keep in mind, that most people would not be affected by the discontinuation of the Adobe Flash player as most major websites have already switched to other platforms. Notably, Apple users in particular, namely with iPhones and iPads, as both iOS and iPads never supported Flash, to begin with. Steve Jobs, the co founder and former CEO of Apple, had also shared his “Thoughts on Flash” back in 2010. He criticized Adobe software’s reliability, incompatibility issues, and battery drain on mobile devices. He even called it “painfully slow to adopt enhancements to Apple’s platforms,” as per a MacRumors report.

For those unaware, one of the reasons major websites shifted away from Adobe Flash was due to the platform suffering from various vulnerabilities. This exposed many PC and Mac users to malware and various other security risks as well. This caused many companies like Microsoft and Apple to constantly work to fix the numerous security issues. Thus, many eventually made the shift to other formats.

Since Adobe Flash is no longer being officially supported and has reached the end of its lifespan, the company has recommended users to uninstall and remove the software from their devices completely, “to help protect their systems.” So it is advised to do so, to avoid any potential vulnerability from being exploited on your desktop or laptop PCs.

When Xiaomi announced the Mi CC9 series, the two phones came with a feature in the gallery app that allowed you to change the sky in photos to a different one from a set of presets. The feature has now been made available for several Xiaomi and Redmi phones. If you have always wanted to try out the feature but don’t have a Xiaomi phone, you should be able to do so soon as Adobe has revealed that its Photoshop editing software will be getting a similar feature, and it is packed with more customizations.

According to The Verge, Adobe has a conference that is scheduled to run between October 20 and October 22 and we expect it will unveil new features for its suite of apps. Ahead of the launch, it has released a video that gives us a sneak peek of the Sky Replacement tool coming to Adobe Photoshop.

Users will be able to switch the sky in photos to a different one available in the built-in presets. They will also be able to add their own presets to use in their images. Adobe says the tool uses AI to tweak the foreground to match the choice of sky you choose. So it should automatically adjust the brightness of your photo if you choose a sunny sky or add a golden hue to your photo if you choose a golden hour sunset sky.

Adobe didn’t say when the feature will be available but more details should surface at the conference next month.

Adobe Photoshop Express and Lightroom are some of the popular photo editing tools available in the market. The Android and iOS apps of these tools also support lens correction. Every now and then, Adobe extends the support for more devices. Now, in June 2020, the firm has added support for Huawei P40 Pro, a plethora of Apple iPads, and iPhone SE 2020.

Smartphones and tablets these days are capable of clicking RAW pictures. But these images tend to have distortions and exposure issues compared to normal shots. Thankfully, it can be fixed in editing tools like Photoshop Express and Lightroom by Adobe using device-specific lens correction profiles.

Hence, Adobe regularly adds lens correction profiles for newly released devices. For this month the company added support for a total of 9 devices, out of which, 8 are Apple products and a single Huawei model.

Adobe has a plethora of mobile apps for both Android and iOS. Adding to the list, the firm has published a new app called Photoshop Camera on App Store and Google Play Store.

The new Adobe app is unlike any other mobile application by the company. It is targeted at social media users who frequently use filters.

The Photoshop Camera app can be simply termed as any other third-party camera filter app. It offers a number of lenses as well as filters and even lets users edit their clicked pictures to some extent.

This is a perfect app for those who love Photoshop creative edits but do not have a skillset for them. Thus, in a way, Adobe is trying to lure potential customers for its ecosystem with its new app.

Though the app is good and all, it competes directly with popular social media like Snapchat and Instagram who have been regularly adding new filters and lenses for its users for years.

To make a breakthrough, an app should be first accessible to all the users. Unfortunately, right off the bat, Adobe Photoshop Camera is not available for all the Android devices. It is currently limited to the latest Samsung Galaxy handsets and Google Pixels.

Only time will tell if this application will be a success. A dedicated app for filters and lenses is a tough idea to sell. Even the most trending apps in recent times, Prisma did not last for a long time.

Adobe offers a lot of professional tools to edit images, videos, flash files, and other stuff. Despite offering tons of software to edit the digital content, the company was missing its camera app for smartphones. Well, the company announced its own Adobe Photoshop Camera powered with AI-filters known as “Lens.” The company claims of using its home-built artificial platform Sensei to recognize objects in the photos.

Apart from the suggestions, the user can manually pick any filter available in the app. It can be applied to images from the media gallery, or the user can preview it in real-time. The “Lens,” aka different filters are divided into categories such as portrait, pop art, cosmic skies, spectrum, food, scenery, etc.

The interested users can sideload the app as we have got hands-on the apk. After installing the app, it will ask for Adobe, Google, or Facebook account to sign in to the app. The preview app can be used by sideloading and then logging in. It is a preview app, so expect some bugs or can experience lag while using. It is recommended to close the app from recents menu as it can heat-up your device.

After installation, the user can choose a filter and apply it to the already snapped picture. Otherwise, the app also supports real-time preview of the filter in the viewfinder. Users can spend some time to catch beautiful pictures using the favorite filter through the viewfinder. The globe icon on the top left corner gives you access to the Lens library. It hosts an additional lens, aka filters on the top left corner.

Apart from the selfie or portrait filters, there’s an abundance of filters to convert typical landscape picture into a high-end image. There are also some funny filters that make you look like a pop artist. The automatic filter suggestions is purely an AI-based feature of the app.

Adobe Photoshop Camera app is officially compatible with these smartphones. However, it can be installed on other smartphones running Android 9+ onboard.
