New data tracking CPU sales on Amazon US shows a sharp year-over-year decline in January 2026. According to figures compiled by analyst TechEpiphany, just 26,100 processors were sold during the month. That might not sound terrible on its own, but it represents a steep 51% drop compared to January 2025.

That’s a significant contraction for one of the largest online retailers, and it adds to a broader downward trend that’s been visible in recent months.

At the same time, prices are moving in the opposite direction. The average selling price of CPUs rose from $227 in January 2025 to $305 in January 2026, a jump of roughly 34%. That suggests buyers who are still upgrading may be choosing higher-end chips, or simply paying more across the board.

Despite the slowdown, AMD continues to lead by a wide margin. The company reportedly sold 23,050 Ryzen CPUs in January, accounting for more than 88% of total units. Revenue share was nearly identical. Intel, by comparison, moved just 3,050 units.

What’s interesting is where demand seems concentrated. AMD’s newer Zen 5-based Ryzen 9000 series performed well, but older Zen 4 (Ryzen 7000) and even Zen 3 (Ryzen 5000) chips continue to sell in meaningful numbers.

Building or upgrading a PC right now means paying more for nearly every major component. Memory prices have climbed noticeably in recent months, affecting both DDR4 and DDR5 kits. SSD pricing has also increased. Graphics cards haven’t helped the situation either. Even mid-range options have seen pricing pressure.

When RAM, storage, and GPUs all cost more, the appeal of upgrading “just the CPU” weakens. Most enthusiasts don’t upgrade in isolation; it’s usually part of a broader platform refresh. And right now, that refresh isn’t cheap.

Between higher component costs, platform transition expenses, and general economic caution, many consumers seem comfortable holding onto existing systems a little longer.

TSMC’s dominance in advanced chip manufacturing has been good for consistency, but it also comes with downsides. When one company controls most of the cutting-edge process nodes, chipmakers have fewer options, and that usually means higher prices. 

TSMC has also revealed its plans to raise foundry prices over the next three years, which puts even more pressure on companies that rely on it.

So it’s not surprising that brands are looking elsewhere, and Samsung seems to be a safe bet for many. The company recently signed massive deals with Apple and Tesla, and a new report suggests AMD could be its next client.

AMD could use Samsung’s 2nm fabrication

According to reports from South Korea, AMD might use Samsung’s 2nm process for some future chips. In fact, Samsung chairman Lee Jae-yong is expected to meet AMD CEO Lisa Su to discuss the partnership.

This isn’t entirely out of the blue. Su has hinted before that AMD wants more manufacturing options, but Samsung’s past issues related to yields made it a hard sell. For a long time, Samsung’s leading-edge nodes didn’t inspire enough confidence for large, high-value orders.

That seems to be changing at 2nm. Samsung’s manufacturing process is now more stable, with its first 2nm chip receiving a positive response in terms of yield and performance, at least so far.

More importantly, AMD isn’t expected to jump in at the very start. Instead, the company is said to be targeting Samsung’s second-generation 2nm node, known as SF2P. 

This is the higher-performance version of the process and comes with noticeable improvements. Samsung claims SF2P delivers better performance, significantly lower power consumption, and a smaller chip footprint compared to its first 2nm offering.

Mass production of SF2P is expected to begin in 2026, followed by an improved SF2P+ version in 2027. If talks go well, AMD and Samsung could finalize a deal as soon as next month. For Samsung, AMD would become another high-profile customer for its 2nm line after Tesla.

Nvidia and AMD have struck a rare arrangement with the US government, agreeing to hand over 15% of revenue from sales of certain AI chips to China in exchange for export licenses. The deal covers Nvidia’s H20 and AMD’s MI308 accelerators, both tailored for China after Washington’s 2023 export restrictions limited access to top-tier GPUs.

The agreement comes amid an intensifying US-China contest over advanced computing hardware, which powers AI models used in everything from language processing to military simulations. The US has argued that high-performance GPUs can give Beijing an edge in strategic projects, including autonomous weapons and mass-surveillance platforms, and has sought to slow China’s access to them through strict export controls.

Deal keeps China market open but sparks security concerns

By accepting the revenue-sharing terms, Nvidia and AMD retain a foothold in one of their most important markets while remaining formally compliant with US rules. Critics, however, say the compromise undermines the point of those rules. Christopher Padilla, a former US export control official, called the arrangement “bribery or blackmail, or both,” warning that it risks weakening the policy’s deterrent value.

The White House has not publicly commented, but the deal was approved under the Trump administration. Its structure is unusual: rather than banning specific products outright, it monetizes their sale to a strategic competitor, raising questions about whether security priorities are being traded for fiscal gain.

Nvidia, for its part, insists it is operating within government guidelines. “We follow the rules the US government sets for our participation in worldwide markets,” the company said in a statement. CEO Jensen Huang has framed the issue in terms of global competitiveness, arguing that “America cannot repeat 5G and lose telecommunication leadership” and that US-developed AI could set the world standard if it moves fast enough.

If this revenue-sharing model spreads to other sectors, the line between protecting critical technologies and monetizing their sale to strategic competitors could become increasingly blurred.

All of these specs make it a great system that easily handles intense tasks as a workstation. You also get a healthy selection of ports, including two USB4, two USB 2.0 Type-A, three USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A, a 3.5 mm audio and mic combo, an SD 4.0 card reader, a 2.5G Ethernet, a DisplayPort 1.4, and an HDMI 2.1.

The base Dell 14 Plus is equipped with the new AMD Ryzen AI 5 340 APU, which offers an 8 core CPU with 12 threads and the RDNA3 based Radeon 840M integrated graphics.

The starting storage configuration includes 16GB of LPDDR5 7500MHz RAM and 512GB of PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD storage. AMD is yet to provide any official indication yet on when the new Ryzen CPUs will be released. It is however believed that the new AMD products will be available in July although some retail platforms have provided specific dates. The Ryzen 9000 series is listed by B&H to be available for preorder on July 31. BestBuy has stated a release date for an ASUS laptop powered by the Ryzen AI 300 processor on July 15.

AMD has claimed up to 100 models that will feature the Ryzen AI processors and the ASUS model is believed to be among them. During Computex 2024, only a limited number of designs were introduced. The others could include mini PCs and handhelds possibly. It is however clear that both AMD Zen5 series will launch before the new client-series featuring Lion Cove/ Skymont CPU setups. These are expected to be available in Q3 for mobile and Q4 2024 for desktop.

The official prices of the new AMD mobile and desktop processors have not been revealed. However, the prices of some of the models having these processors have been announced. The Ryzen AI 9 365 with 24GB of RAM and 1TB of storage is priced at $1,399 at BestBuy.

However, Golden Pig’s report suggests AMD has opted to skip ahead to the 300-series to one-up Intel’s rumored “inferior” 200-series numbering for their next-generation Lunar Lake/Arrow Lake processors.

It’s also possible AMD wants to highlight the inclusion of a Neural Processing Unit (NPU) in these chips, a key component for Microsoft’s new Copilot+ AI PCs.

AMD’s history of mirroring competitor branding strategies, particularly in the motherboard space, lends some credence to this rumor. The company’s alleged adoption of the B650 chipset name reportedly forced Intel to use B660 for their competing chipset to avoid confusion.

If true, the “Ryzen AI” branding would likely include AMD’s entire mobile processor lineup featuring their XDNA NPU technology. That will include Strix Point, the codename for AMD’s next-generation mainstream Ryzen mobile processors succeeding the Ryzen 8040 series. 

Strix Point is expected to feature Zen 5 CPU architecture, RDNA 3.5 graphics, and an XDNA2 NPU with around 30 TOPS of performance. Strix Halo, the codename for AMD’s high-performance mobile APU designed to compete with the likes of Apple’s M3/M4 processors, could also fall under the “Ryzen AI” umbrella.

The Ryzen PRO 8040 series for laptops is designed to meet the needs of two distinct markets. The HS series caters to content creators and mobile workstation users, offering powerful processors like the Ryzen 9 PRO 8945HS with 8 cores, 16 threads, and a 4.0-5.2GHz clock speed. These HS series processors are capable of handling demanding tasks but come with a higher power consumption rating ranging from 35W to 54W.

If portability is a priority, the U series offers a more energy-efficient option. Processors like the Ryzen 7 PRO 8840U and Ryzen 5 PRO 8640U boast similar core counts and clock speeds as the HS series but have a lower power consumption rating of 15W to 28W. The unique offering in the U series is the Ryzen 5 PRO 8540U, which lacks an NPU unit.

The desktop-focused Ryzen PRO 8000 series comes in two variants: G and GE. Both G and GE series offer Ryzen 7, 5, and 3 processors. Users prioritizing raw performance can opt for the G series, which offers processors like the Ryzen 7 PRO 8700G with 8 cores, 16 threads, and a clock speed of 4.2-5.1GHz. However, the G series comes with a higher power consumption rating of 45W to 65W.

For those seeking a balance between performance and efficiency, the GE series offers a compelling option. These processors, like the Ryzen 5 PRO 8600GE, maintain a similar core count and clock speed as the G series but with a lower power consumption rating of 35W.

The Ryzen 8000 series boasts impressive specs. Built on a cutting-edge 4nm process, it combines Zen 4 CPU architecture, RDNA 3 architecture GPU, and the all-new XDNA architecture NPU. This powerhouse delivers a staggering 39 TOPS of AI computing power, with the NPU itself contributing a significant 16 TOPS.

But muscle doesn’t stop at AI. The Ryzen 8000 series packs additional features; 20 lanes of high-speed PCIe Gen 4 connectivity ensures efficient data transfer, and support for dual-channel DDR5 5600 memory with error correction (ECC) keeps things running smoothly. The machines can drive stunning visuals with the ability to power four independent 4K displays. AMD is presently working on a fresh set of APUs (Accelerated Processing Units) for the next generation of computing devices. Some of these are reportedly known internally as Strix Point, Sarlak, and Kraken. Details about these upcoming chipsets have recently surfaced, thanks to Gamma0burst, a South Korean blog site.

Expected to hit the market later this year, the Strix Point APUs are likely to be branded as the Ryzen 8050 series. They’re rumored to come with AMD’s next-gen Zen 5 CPU architecture and an upgraded RDNA 3.5 graphics architecture.

A notable feature is the addition of a dedicated AI processing unit based on the XDNA 2 architecture, potentially enhancing performance by up to 48 TOPS – a significant advancement in AI capability. Strix Point is expected to succeed AMD’s current “Hawk Point” generation of APUs.

AMD’s 2025 lineup, Kraken, is also set to utilize the Zen 5 and RDNA 3.5 architectures. Rumors indicate an 8-core configuration, possibly combining Zen 5 and energy-efficient Zen 5C cores, along with an RDNA 3.5 GPU containing 8 Compute Units (CUs). 

Both Strix and Kraken are said to be manufactured using a 4nm process, although the reliability of this information is uncertain.

The leaked information also sheds light on the differences between Strix and Sarlak. Despite being initially linked, the leak suggests they are different processors. 

The Strix APU line is expected to offer a range of chips, from a single-die design featuring 12 CPU cores and 16 CUs to a premium multi-chip version with up to 16 CPU cores and an impressive 40 CUs.

Apart from this, the Gamma0burst leak also reveals that a new processor with the codename ‘Sound Wave’ is in the works.  The only detail mentioned about it is the possible use of a 3nm manufacturing process. 

With such limited information available, the capabilities and timeline of Sound Wave remain shrouded in mystery.

APUs are popular choices for compact systems and laptops where robust graphics and efficient processing are essential in a space-constrained form factor. AMD has numerous developments underway with APUs, and we’ll be sure to keep you updated on any further developments.

AMD‘s recent attempt to enhance its open-source Linux graphics driver (AMDGPU) with HDMI 2.1 features has hit a roadblock. After months of internal development to support key capabilities like 4K@120Hz and 5K@240Hz, the HDMI Forum rejected AMD’s proposal.

The rejection prevents Linux users of newer AMD Radeon graphics cards from taking full advantage of HDMI 2.1-equipped displays.

AMD expressed disappointment with the Forum’s decision, stating that an open-source HDMI 2.1 implementation would not be possible without contravening HDMI Forum requirements. 

The Forum cited legal and compliance concerns surrounding the open-source distribution of the HDMI 2.1 specification.

This setback highlights the complexities faced by open-source HDMI developers following the HDMI Forum’s decision to restrict its specifications in 2021. 

As a result, the latest HDMI features are likely to remain unavailable within open-source drivers. AMD recommends Linux users who want features like high-refresh-rate 4K gaming to switch to DisplayPort connections instead.

The situation remains unchanged for Windows users with AMD graphics, as they retain full HDMI 2.1 functionality. This highlights a discrepancy in the open-source development environment. 

The rebuff also underscores potential tensions within the AMD – HDMI Forum relationship.  AMD had likely hoped that pioneering open-source HDMI 2.1 drivers would enhance their standing within the open-source community.

Whether Linux users with AMD graphics will ever be able to fully leverage next-gen HDMI 2.1 displays remains uncertain. Currently, both AMD and the HDMI Forum appear deeply invested in their respective positions, leaving consumers with limited options.

A notable aspect of the Instinct MI300X is its Chiplet design, housing 13 small chips based on 3D stacking. Dell has expanded its high-performance computing portfolio for AI workloads by adding an AMD-powered server, specifically designed to support large language models (LLMs). This new addition complements Dell’s existing Nvidia-powered options, offering customers more variety in their AI infrastructure choices.

The latest server has 8 AMD M1300X accelerators

The latest server, the Dell PowerEdge XE9680, is equipped with eight AMD Instinct MI300X accelerators. These accelerators are notable for their 1.5GB of high-bandwidth memory (HBM3) and their impressive performance capacity, exceeding 21 petaFLOPS. This makes them particularly suitable for businesses looking to train and operate their own in-house LLMs.

One of the key features of the new Dell offering is its scalability. Customers can scale the systems they deploy using the global memory interconnect (xGMI) standard. Additionally, AMD’s GPUs can be connected over an Ethernet-based AI fabric with a Dell PowerSwitch Z9664F-ON. This release follows Dell’s earlier launch of a unit fitted with Nvidia H100 GPUs.

Another significant aspect of Dell’s strategy is the introduction of a new standard called Dell Validated Design for Generative AI with AMD. This standard provides a framework for organizations to run their own hardware and networking architecture for LLMs. It emphasizes the use of AMD ROCm powered AI frameworks, an open-source package including drivers, development toolkits, and APIs compatible with AMD Instinct accelerators. These frameworks support popular AI software like PyTorch, TensorFlow, and OpenAI Triton, all of which have native support on the PowerEdge XE9680 fitted with AMD accelerators.

In a significant move to bolster its presence in India, AMD has inaugurated its largest global design center, the Technostar research and development campus, in Bengaluru. 

This state-of-the-art facility marks a cornerstone of AMD’s $400 million investment in India over the next five years, announced at Semicon 2023.

The Technostar campus, spanning an impressive 500,000 square feet, will house approximately 3,000 engineers dedicated to developing cutting-edge CPUs, GPUs, adaptive SoCs, and FPGAs for both personal computers and data centers. 

This aligns with India’s semiconductor program, which emphasizes fostering a supportive ecosystem for semiconductor design and talent development.

The facility boasts a modern research and development lab, a dedicated visitor demo center, and collaborative huddle spaces, fostering an environment conducive to innovation and collaboration. 

With a quarter of AMD’s global workforce already based in India, the new design center is poised to play a pivotal role in advancing semiconductor technologies.

The R&D center was inaugurated by Ashwini Vaishnaw, Union Cabinet Minister for Railways, Telecommunications, Electronics and Information Technology, Government of India. 

Many high-level officials from AMD were also present at the inauguration event, including Mark Papermaster, Chief Technology Officer (CTO), and David Wang, Senior Vice President (SVP) of Radeon Technologies Group. The site will be led by Deepak Agarwal.

Ashwini Vaishnaw, Minister for Railways, Communications & Electronics and Information Technology, Government of India, emphasized the significance of AMD’s investment in India’s semiconductor ecosystem.

Mark Papermaster, Executive Vice President and Chief Technology Officer, AMD, also expressed AMD’s commitment to India and its confidence in the country’s engineering talent.

Design

In terms of Design, the front of the iWork GT 12 is similar to a typical Android tablet, coming with a 12.6-inch 3:2 ratio screen and a compact body. However, on the sides, there is a sloping design, which visually reduces the thickness of the tablet. Well, pretty smart trick. iWork GT 12 weighs around 915g, so I would like to place it on a table or my lap more often. But if only for light entertainment, I prefer to hold it in my hands, while touching the display for operation without the keyboard kit. The lightweight is just good for that.

The shell has a nice grey look, and the back with a matt finish rejects fingerprints and stains well. There are also metal contacts on the bottom for attaching the keyboard. It’s worth noting that this PC has two cameras at the front and back like an Android tablet, the image shot on both for video conferencing is good, but for such a budget PC, I wouldn’t ask for anything more about its image quality.

In terms of ports, the iWork GT 12 has two full-featured USB3.2 GEN 2 type-C ports, which not only support charging and data transfer but also external monitors. Not only that, it also has a USB 3.2 GEN-2 type-A port, which means that in most cases, I don’t have to use the type-C docking station. And the GT 12 also has a headphone jack and supports TF card expansion up to 512GB. It is safe to say, no one will be disappointed by its expandability.

Hardware

In terms of performance, iWork GT 12 is equipped with a 4 core 8 thread AMD Ryzen5 7520U processor, along with 16GB LPDDR5 memory, it is unusual to see such a hardware combo in a 2-in-1 PC. As for the actual theoretical performance, I first tested it in CPU-Z, the 7520U performance is roughly equivalent to the same 4-core 8-thread desktop CPU- the i7 4790k. Compared to the latest flagship processors, the 7520U’s single-core performance is about half that of the i9-13900k. But please keep in mind that the 7520U is a mobile processor with 15w TDP. So from this aspect, really nothing to complain.

After that, I ran 2 rounds of tests with the latest Cinebench 2024, and the results showed that the multi-core performance was about half of the i9-9880h, and the single core was about 85% of the i9-9880h.

Overall, in terms of extreme performance, thanks to the TSMC 6nm, the chipset really exceeded my expectations. Overall, it’s hard to find someone using such a device to run high-performance software like C4D, Blender, AE, and so on. Now with the 7520U processor, the iWork GT 12 is perfectly suited for my office and entertainment needs.

During the performance test, I found that the CPU was running at a high clocking, which made me curious about the CPU strategy of the iWork GT 12. During a ten-minute CPU stress test in AIDA64, the CPU’s power consumption was close to 20w at the beginning, and the CPU was running at a high clocking of 4GHZ or even more. And eventually, the CPU’s power was stabilized at 15w.

with the CPU clocking still at 3.8GHZ. and the CPU temperature was 93°. This is a very good performance for a portable PC. And during the stress test, the fan speed was pretty calm, I could only hear a subtle airflow sound. There is no sharp airflow noise like most gaming laptops.

The 7520U has an integrated AMD Radeon 610M GPU that uses the very advanced RDN2 architecture, which is very nice, but the Radeon 610M only has 2 CU units.

For gaming tests, first we run the Genshin Impact. Under 1080P graphics, the PC runs at an average framerate of 45fps. In the CSGO, turn it down to 720P resolution, the iWork PC could still run at 100fps. The good news is that the temperature control is excellent. And thanks to RDN2, the 610M GPU supports the latest AV1 hardware decoding, so the iWork GT 12 is great for light gaming and video play.

The 16GB of dual channel LPDDR5 memory is excellent, and it’s hard to see such a memory configuration at the same price. Paired with a 512GB NVME storage, this is a very competitive combination.

Screen

There is no doubt that the screen is the highlight of the iWork GT 12, it uses a 3:2 ratio of 12.6-inch IPS screen, the resolution reached 2K level, the screen is clear and delicate, and in the brightness of the performance is also very good, even if you use it outdoors, the brightness of the screen is also very satisfying.

And the screen also supports 10-point touch and 4096 levels of pressure-sensitive handwriting, so in this price range it is amazingly competitive. Although I can conveniently have touch control on the display without any input accessories, I have to say that the iWork GT 12 also impressed me a lot with its smooth stylus experience.

User experience

In terms of software, iWork GT 12 comes with Windows 11 Home Edition pre-installed, and when paired with the 7520U, the experience is very smooth. it gives me a very good experience in my daily officing and movie watching, and since it’s a 2-in-1 PC, I can use it pretty much anywhere, lying down on the sofa or bed as I want for casual gaming.

Keyboard

In terms of keyboard, the iWork GT 12 uses the same keyboard layout as the Surface, compared to the previous keyboard we used, which was also from Alldocube, the GT 12’s keyboard is a significant step up in look and quality, and the typing experience is just as good, and the touchpad is nothing different from most windows laptops’.

Battery & Charge

the iWork GT 12 has a built-in 5500mAh battery, so it can last for about 4 hours for web browsing and office work. Well that’s not bad for an x86 device.

For charging, it supports up to 45w of PD fast charging and gets fully charged in about an hour, I’m very happy with the iWork GT 12 due to the support of the PD protocol and USB-C port. As a truly portable computer, the 2-in-1 PC seems to know what it’s supposed to do.

Verdict.

The new iWork GT is a very versatile 2-in-1 PC, with an AMD Ryzen processor and an excellent touchable screen, but more surprisingly with a friendly price tag. Samsung Foundry, the semiconductor chip manufacturing arm of Samsung Electronics, is making a comeback in the chip foundry market. After losing several key clients, including Apple, Nvidia, and Qualcomm, to rival TSMC, Samsung is now poised to reclaim some of its lost ground.

The turnaround is being attributed to Samsung’s significant improvements in its 4nm chip fabrication technology. Reportedly, the company has managed to match TSMC’s yield and performance for 4nm chips.

Samsung could manufacture AMD’s Zen 5c chips

This progress has caught the attention of AMD, which has reportedly decided to use Samsung Foundry’s 4nm process for its next-generation Zen 5c processors. The lower-end models in the Zen 5c lineup are expected to be made using Samsung’s 4nm process, while the higher-end models will utilize TSMC’s 3nm process.

The successful production of AMD Zen 5c chips by Samsung could potentially open the door for AMD to consider Samsung Foundry’s new 3nm GAA process in future endeavors. 

Kim Yang-paeng, a researcher at the Korea Institute for Industrial Economics and Trade, believes that “if Samsung successfully secures an order for AMD’s 4-nano chips this time, it will pave the way for transactions in the ‘big chip’ field for servers, where Samsung has traditionally been less dominant. In the future, cutting-edge processes like 3-nano could become a reality for Samsung, further expanding its influence within the industry.”

Samsung’s improved chip fabrication capabilities are also attracting attention from other companies, particularly in the Generative AI segment. With TSMC’s chip production capacity overburdened due to the surge in demand for AI-related chips, companies are turning to Samsung Foundry as an alternative, given that these two companies are the only ones in the world capable of producing 3nm and 5nm chips.

Samsung Galaxy S24 to Get AMD FSR Boost for Gaming, Ray Tracing

Samsung is the world’s largest smartphone manufacturer. However, despite being at the top in terms of sales volume, it has been struggling with a significant issue for years. A substantial portion of Samsung’s market share comes from entry and mid-range devices. While this brings in revenue in terms of volume, lower-end models are not as profitable as the Galaxy S or Fold series.

In an effort to address this issue, Samsung has devised special plans for the Galaxy S24. The first step involves the use of a specially designed Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor with overclocking capabilities, and the second step is the integration of FSR technology. For those unfamiliar with FSR, it is a technology developed by AMD to enhance gaming performance, competing with Nvidia’s DLSS. This technology allows your device to run graphically demanding games more smoothly without overloading the hardware.

FSR, which is also used in AMD’s Radeon series graphics cards, will now be featured in the Samsung Galaxy S24 series. According to reports, Samsung, Qualcomm, and AMD have collaborated on this. Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) locked its second AI software acquisition deal to compete against Nvidia’s AI prowess. The company acquired Nod.AI which develop AI solution to optimize compiler-based automation software for startups, enterprises, and hyperscalers. AMD aims to improve its open-source AI products and systems with the new acquisition.

The technology from Nod.AI will benefit AMD’s products for its Intinct data-center accelerators, Ryzen processors, and Radeon GPUs. It will also reduce the optimizing time before deploying AI models on AMD processors. Further, “With the purchase, AMD is attempting to capitalize on the demand for generative AI technologies. Nod.ai’s tools will give its customers developer tools, libraries, and machine learning models,” the company said.

Following AMD CEO Lisa SU’s plan to enhance the company’s AI capabilities, AMD first acquired Mipsology and now Nod.AI. Further, AMD is scheduled to launch Instinct MI300 chips later this quarter.

“The acquisition of Nod.ai is expected to significantly enhance our ability to provide AI customers with open software that allows them to easily deploy highly performant AI models tuned for AMD hardware,” AMD Senior Vice President of AI, Vamsi Boppana, said.

Following the new development, AMD shares ended in green with a 1.7% increase. However, the actual details about the company’s progress will be reflected in the Q3 2023 earnings report which is set for release today.

Nod.AI was founded in 2013 by Enush Elangovan, who is a former Google employee known for his contribution to developing an Arm-based Chromebook. The startup is backed by venture capital firms like Menlo Ventures, 8Square Capital, Atlantic Bridge, Pointguard Ventures, and Walden International. “By joining forces with AMD, we will bring this expertise to a broader range of customers on a global scale,” Elangovan said in a statement.

Ryzen comes to Framework 13-inch laptops with AMD Mainboards

Technology is advancing at a rapid pace. As a result, we’re constantly introduced to new products like computers, phones, and headphones. Moreover, many of us buy these even when we don’t need them. For example, even though I use a MacBook with an M1 chip, I want to buy the M2 MacBook Air, despite not really needing it.

Unfortunately, such purchases can contribute to electronic waste if our existing devices aren’t resold or recycled. Framework, however, is aiming to address this problem by developing modular products, allowing you to enhance the performance of your existing computer. In line with this, the company recently introduced AMD mainboards for their 13-inch laptops.

If you already have a Framework 13 laptop, you can finally upgrade to an AMD mainboard. However, it’s important to note that you will need to purchase new RAM and a new WiFi module. The Framework’s new AMD mainboards come in three configurations:

• Base: Ryzen 5 7640U with Radeon 760M iGPU, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD
• Performance: Ryzen 7 7840U with Radeon 7840U, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD
• Ultra: Ryzen 7 7840U with Radeon 7840U, 32GB RAM, 1TB SSD

The only difference between the base and performance models is the CPU and RAM. The ultra model has the same CPU and RAM as the performance model, but it also has a larger SSD. The AMD mainboards offer a number of advantages over the Intel mainboards. First, they offer better performance, especially in multi-thread. Second, they have better integrated graphics, which means that you can play some games without having to rely on a dedicated GPU.

However, there are also a few disadvantages to the AMD mainboards. First, they are more expensive than the Intel mainboards. Second, the front two USB-C ports do not support Thunderbolt 4. Therefore, if you’re a user of a 13-inch Framework laptop and are considering switching to AMD, you need to think carefully and decide which option is right for you.

Price & Availability

The Framework 13 laptop with an AMD mainboard is available to order now on the Framework website. The base model starts at $1,049, the performance model starts at $1,469, and the ultra model starts at $1,669. The first seven production batches of the Framework 13 laptop with an AMD mainboard are already sold out, but Framework says that it is working to produce more units. The company expects to ship the first orders in late October. Unfortunately, judging by the price, we can say that protecting the environment and using a modular laptop is not cheap at all for 2023.

Samsung has been working with AMD to develop mobile GPUs for its Exynos processors for the past three years. The first fruit of this partnership was the Exynos 2200, featuring the Samsung Xclipse GPU. It was powered by AMD’s RDNA 2 architecture and was used on the Galaxy S22 series.

In April 2023, Samsung and AMD announced that they would continue working together to bring high-quality graphics to more smartphones. However, a new rumor suggests that Samsung may be on the verge of ending its partnership with AMD.

According to the rumor, Samsun’s System LSI team is considering developing its own in-house mobile GPUs rather than continuing to rely on AMD. This would allow Samsung to have full control over the design of its graphics processors, which are critical components for mobile gaming and other graphics-intensive applications.

If the leak is true, it means that future Exynos processors could feature a Samsung GPU instead of an AMD architecture. This could have a significant impact on the mobile GPU market, as AMD has been gaining market share in recent years.

Samsung is expected to release its next-generation Exynos 2400 processor in 2024. According to leaks, the Exynos 2400 will still use an improved AMD-based GPU. However, the long-term outlook for the Samsung-AMD partnership remains uncertain.

Samsung recently launched the Samsung Galaxy S23 series in February 2023, powered by Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC. Whereas the previous series, the Galaxy S22, was powered by an Exynos chip co-developed by AMD and Samsung. According to recent reports that have surfaced online, Samsung will most likely bring AMD GPU to its mid-range Exynos processors in 2024.

In a recent post by Revegnus, the company plans to introduce mRDNA-based GPUs in their mid-range Exynos 1430 and Exynos 1480 chips, which are expected to be announced next year. In our earlier report, we covered that the Exynos 2200 chip, which also uses an mRDNA-based GPU, performed really well, scoring 170.7 fps in the Manhattan 3.1 test, while Apple’s A14 Bionic chip scored 120fps.

However, the post has made it clear not to expect high gaming performance with this processor. “This processor will be more focused on ISP rather than gaming,” said Revegnus, meaning the Exynos 1430 and Exynos 1480 are speculated to provide an enhanced image capture experience.

AMD today announced the new Ryzen 9 7945HX3D processor at the China Joy event. This new chip brings 3D V-cache technology to gaming laptops, which improves power and efficiency when gaming or running demanding apps. It comes with a 200 MHz lower base clock, a total of 128 MB of L3 cache, and a 55 W+ TDP. The Asus Strix Scar 17 X3D launching later in August will be the first to feature the Ryzen 9 7945HX3D.

AMD Ryzen 9 7945HX3D has been launched as part of the company’s 4 nm Ryzen Zen 4 “Dragon Range” lineup. The company says it is the world’s fastest mobile gaming processor, with over 15% faster performance than the AMD Ryzen 7945HX. The processor comes with a 16-core architecture with 32 threads. Its processing speed is rated to go up to 5.4GHz.

As mentioned, the new CPU also brings AMD’s 3D V-Cache technology to gaming laptops. For those who don’t know, this technology adds an additional cache directly onto the CPU die. If you’re planning on playing games, then 3D V-Cache technology can help improve your performance. AMD claims that the 7945HX3D outperforms the standard 7945HX by 11% at 70 watts and by 23% at 40 watts.

The CPU has a base clock of 2.3 GHz and boosts up to 5.4 GHz.  The Ryzen 9 79450HX3D also features the Radeon 610M iGPU with 2 RDNA 2 compute units. The Ryzen 9 7945HX3D will power the upcoming ASUS ROG Strix Scar 17 X3D, which is slated to launch on August 22, 2023. The laptop should bring 32 GB DDR5 RAM, 1 TB SSD, and an RTX 4090 GPU.

AMD to offer Starfield Standard & Premium Edition Bundles

Team Red has already begun taking orders for the new special edition bundles, which will go on till September 30. With the purchase of both the Standard and Premium editions, you will be offered a copy of Starfield. For those unaware, Starfield is Bethesda’s first original IP in over 25 years and is an offline single-player title. It will feature RPG mechanics which the company is known for and will have an emphasis on sci-fi space exploration and discovery. The title is set to launch on September 6.

If you’re looking to buy the Premium edition bundle, you would need to buy a Ryzen 9 7900 CPU or higher, or a Radeon RX 6700 GPU or higher. On the other hand, the Standard Edition starts from the Ryzen 5 7600 all the way up to the Ryzen 7 7800X3D. Similarly, the Radeon RX 6600 is the lowest tier that is offered with the AMD Starfield bundle, up to the Radeon RX 7600 model.

Notably, the Starfield Premium Edition bundle will offer up to five days of early access along with other exclusive items like a Constellation skins pack, an exclusive Shattered Space expansion following launch, and a copy of the digital Starfield OST and Artbook. The Standard Edition only offers the new game. The announcement from AMD also follows Microsoft’s launch of its Starfield-themed Limited Edition Xbox Controller and Wireless Headset.

AMD HYPR-RX: Where Is It?

AMD has missed its deadline to launch HYPR-RX, a one-click optimization solution that was supposed to improve frame rates on supported Radeon GPUs. The technology was originally announced in November 2022, with a release date set for the first half of 2023. However, as of the second half of 2023, HYPR-RX has yet to be released.

HYPR-RX is a combination of three existing AMD technologies: Anti-Lag, Radeon Boost, and Radeon Super Resolution (RSR). Anti-Lag reduces input latency, Radeon Boost dynamically adjusts resolution to improve performance, and RSR upscales games to higher resolutions without affecting performance. HYPR-RX automatically enables all three of these technologies with a single click, making it easy for gamers to improve their performance without having to manually configure their settings.

The lack of a HYPR-RX release is disappointing for AMD gamers who were looking forward to the performance boost. However, it is not a major setback, as the individual technologies that make up HYPR-RX can still be enabled manually. Additionally, Nvidia offers similar features with its GeForce Experience software.

It is unclear why AMD has not released HYPR-RX yet. The company has not made any public statements about the delay. However, it is possible that AMD is still working on the technology or that it has decided to prioritize other projects. Despite the delay, HYPR-RX has the potential to be a valuable tool for AMD gamers. It is a simple way to improve performance without having to worry about complex settings. Hopefully, AMD will release HYPR-RX soon so that gamers can start enjoying the benefits it offers.

FreeSync Panel Replay is similar to Panel Self Refresh (PSR), another power-saving feature that is available on some laptops. However, FreeSync Panel Replay has several advantages over PSR. First, FreeSync Panel Replay allows the source and sink to remain synchronized, which can help to reduce latency. Second, FreeSync Panel Replay can be used in more use cases than PSR. AMD has launched new Zen 4-based chips in the Ryzen 7000 family. These chips are meant for business desktops and laptops, offering increased performance, security and management features, and AI capabilities. The PRO series includes the Ryzen 9 Pro 7945, Ryzen 7 Pro 7745, and Ryzen 5 Pro 7645, based on a 5 nm process node. They all run in any AM5 motherboard and support DDR5 memory and PCIe Gen 5 peripherals.

Ryzen 7000 PRO series Specifications

The Ryzen 9 Pro 7945 is the top-tier CPU in the Ryzen 7000 series. It features 12 cores and 24 threads, operates at a power level of 65 Watts, and has a generous cache size of 76 MB (L2+L3). It is touted to deliver excellent performance with a base clock speed of 3.7 GHz and a boost clock speed of 5.4 GHz. Moreover, it supports PCIe Gen 5 and DDR5 memory.

Next, we have the Ryzen 7 Pro 7745, an 8-core and 16-thread processor. It has a base clock speed of 3.8 GHz and a boost clock speed of 5.3 GHz. The total cache size is 40 MB, which is slightly lower compared to the Ryzen 9 Pro 7945.  Ryzen 5 Pro 7545 is the third CPU in the series and it features 6 cores, 12 threads, and 38 MB of total cache. It has boost clock of 5.1 GHz. All three chips have a TDP of 65 Watts.

The Ryzen PRO 7000 series for desktops is smaller in size, and it is notable because it is the first time AMD is using only its high-end silicon for desktop PRO chips. Upon closer inspection, you’d find that these chips are nothing but the PRO-branded versions of the 7900, 7700, and 7600. This includes the same clock speeds and TDPs.

Twitter user chi11eddog has shared an image comparing the specs of the rumored Ryzen 5 5600X3D with the 5800X3D. The CPU is expected to feature six cores and twelve threads, with each core having 512KB of L2 cache, totaling 3MB. It will have 32MB of planar cache and 64MB of stacked 3D cache. The CPU should have a base clock of 3.3GHz and a boost clock of 4.4GHz.

To compare, the 5800X3D offers eight cores, sixteen threads, and 4MB of L2 cache. It operates at a base clock speed of 3.4GHz and a boost clock speed of 3.5GHz. Both the Ryzen 5 5600X3D and the 5800X3D have a thermal design power (TDP) of 65W.

The Ryzen 5 5600X3D could be a tempting option in the budget segment. It could deliver approximately 85% of the gaming performance of the 5800X3D while consuming only around 50W of power (Via Hardware Times). Currently, there is no news regarding the launch date of this upcoming CPU. However, considering that all the specifications for the CPU appear to be confirmed, it is highly likely that the 5600X3D will be released in the near future.

AMD is apparently working on a next gen mobile graphics card for upcoming gaming notebooks. The new GPU had its benchmark performance leaked, which reveals that it can rival a popular RTX 4000 series card from Nvidia.

AMD Radeon RX 7800M XT may soon ship in mid range gaming laptops

The performance leak arrives from benchmark sighting on 3DMark TimeSpy, which is a popular benchmarking platform. This leak shows that the upcoming mobile GPU will be based on the Navi 32 GPU and will feature 3,840 stream processors. Furthermore, the new Team Red GPU will have 60 CUs (Compute Units) and will offer 16GB of GDDR6 VRAM. It will be equipped with 240 TMUs (Texture Mapping Units) and 128 ROPs (Raster Outputs). Notably, this leak also arrives after the company announced the Ryzen XDNA AI tech during the Computer 2023 event.

Since it is a mobile variant for notebooks, the new AMD Radeon RX 7800M XT will likely feature lower memory bus with lower clockspeeds compared to its yet to be announced desktop variant. This means that it could feature a 192 bit bus spread across three MCDs (Memory Complex Dies) with up to 64MB of L3 or Infinity Cache. Looking at the benchmark scores, the RX 7800M XT scored 17,842 points in the 3DMark TimeSpy test.

In other words, this can rival the Nvidia GeFore RTX 4070 or even the RTX 3080 desktop graphics card. It is even on par with the RTX 4080 mobile version as well. This is quite impressive since the Radeon RTX 7900 XT can rival the RTX 4070 Ti desktop graphics card variant. Meaning, the new Radeon RX 7800M XT will likely be found in upcoming mid range gaming laptops as well.

The chips will be codenamed “Granite Ridge” and will feature up to 16 CPU cores. The Navi 3.5 GPU will be a die shrink of Navi 3, which will improve clock speed and efficiency.

The Ryzen 8000 series will be a significant upgrade over the current Ryzen 7000 series. The Zen 5 CPU cores are expected to offer a 15% performance boost over Zen 4, while the Navi 3.5 GPU is expected to offer a 20% performance boost over Navi 3. However, it is expected to be released in 2024. AMD has also confirmed that the AM5 socket will be supported until 2026.

With the Computex 2023 event show kicking off, various brands have taken the stage their latest breakthroughs in technology and innovations. AMD is one of these companies and has just announced the new Ryzen XDNA AI tech that was demoed during the major tech event.

With the new technology, Team Red is gearing up to prepare the operating system and the software ecosystem for carrying out AI related tasks locally on the PC. Ryzen XDNA AI engine was found running on an ASUS Strix Scar 17 gaming laptop that was also equipped with the Eyzen 9 7940HS SoC and the Radeon 780M graphics. The XDNA AI engine is basically a dedicated accelerator that resides on the die with the CPU cores.

As the name suggests, this tech will seek to execute AI interference based workloads such as audio, video, and photo processing. These are typically lower intensity tasks but with the new AI engine, it is more energy efficient than using the CPU or GPU. In other words, this will help boost performance while also saving battery life. During the Computex 2023 event, the XDNA AI engine was spotted working on facial recognition tasks.

The engine can handle up to 4 concurrent AI streams and also supports INT8 and bfloat16 instructions. AMD also claims that XDNA AI is faster than the neural engine present on the Apple M2 processors. AMD has announced 4 new processors under the Ryzen 7040U based on the current-gen ‘Zen 4’ architecture with a new RDNA3-based iGPU. Made for thin and light laptops, these chips are claimed to outperform the competition— Apple and Intel. The new line is headlined by the AMD Ryzen 7 7840U, which is paired with Radeon 780M graphics and Ryzen AI using the XDNA architecture. The other processors are no less impressive. Ryzen 7040U Chips will power ultra-slim laptops

The new AMD Ryzen 7040U processors were unveiled earlier this year at CES but the company did not share the specifications. That changes now as AMD has announced the details of the new series codenamed “Phoenix”. It consists of four processors- the Ryzen 7 7840U, Ryzen 5 7640U, Ryzen 5 7540U, and Ryzen 3 7440U.  As per AMD’s naming convention, the U in their name should confirm a TDP of 15-30 Watts.

The RDNA3-based Radeon 780M iGPU powers all four chips. AMD confidently compares its top-tier Phoenix CPU— Ryzen 7 7840U with Intel’s Raptor Lake-based Core i7-1360p, boasting performance advantages ranging from 29% to an impressive 128% across various workloads. Not only that, the chip is claimed to be 5% to 75% faster than the Apple M2 found in the 13-inch MacBook Pro.

These new chips from AMD also come with Ryzen AI acceleration, which helps lighten the workload on the main compute units by handling certain tasks. AMD highlights improved efficiency, aiming to offer laptops with the longest possible time on battery power, although they haven’t provided specific estimates. Major manufacturers are expected to announce laptops based on these chips in the upcoming weeks, although we’re still waiting for details on availability.

The Chromebook market has seemingly been dominated by the likes of Intel and Qualcomm, who’s chipset power a majority of the models offered by various brands. However, it appears that Samsung and AMD are looking to better compete by teaming up.

AMD turns to Samsung for next gen CPUs for Chromebooks

The news arrives from known tipster @OreXda who shared the information on Twitter. The leak claims that the chipmaking has signed a deal to use the South Korean tech giant’s semiconductor foundry. This agreement will have AMD gain access to Samsung’s advanced 4nm process technology. As of right now, the Chromebooks segment is dominated by notebooks featuring Intel and Qualcomm CPUs.

So, the move to using 4nm chips could help in making upcoming AMD powered Chromebooks more competitive in the market. Unfortunately, the leak doesn’t reveal any finer details regarding the yet to be announced chipset from AMD. At the moment, the world’s largest contract chipmaker, TSMC, has been flooded with orders for its 4nm process by various tech giants. This news also follows as Samsung pushes to expand its 4nm production capacity.

The two companies are already working on the upcoming Ryzen Z1 series of chipsets that will power upcoming handheld gaming consoles like the ASUS ROG Ally. For those unaware, popular gaming consoles like the latest Microsoft Xbox Series S/X and PlayStation 5 models are powered by APUs powered by the chipmaking giant. And now, it is even gearing up to expand its portfolio to include handheld consoles as well. The new Ryzen Z1 are based on AMD’s latest Zen 4 architecture and promises to offer great performance along with efficient power consumption. The Ryzen Z1 consists of 6 cores and 12 threads with 22MB in cache and 4 RDNA 3 compute units.

On the other hand, features 8 cores and 16 threads with 24MB in cache and 12 RDNA 3 compute units. The latest platform supports Windows 11, LPDDR5, LPDDR5X, and even USB4 memory. Furthermore, the company is also offering these chips with dedicated software to improve your overall gaming experience with AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition. This offers Radeon Chill, Radeon Image Sharpening, AMD Link, and Radeon Super Resolution.

Based on official notes, we already know that the Ryzen Z1 will be available with the Asus ROG Ally, which is an upcoming handheld gaming console. Acer has refreshed a few of its laptops in the market, and one of them is the Acer Swift X 16. The refreshed device comes with powerful specifications and a larger trackpad.

The device also comes powered by the new AMD 7040-series processors and for those looking for a powerful laptop can add NVIDIA 30 or 40-series graphics card.

As for the design-related changes, the trackpad on the aluminum chassis laptop is now 33 percent larger compared to its predecessor. Acer adds that the airflow on the device has also improved by 36 percent compared to the older model.

Coming to the specifications, the new Acer Swift X 16 features a 16-inch WQXGA IPS LCD display with a screen resolution of 2560 x 1600 pixels and offers a peak brightness of 500 nits. There’s also an option to opt for a WQXGA+ OLED screen with a 3200 x 2000 pixels resolution, 120Hz refresh rate, and 100 percent DCI-P3 color gamut.

Under the hood, the device comes powered by the new AMD Ryzen processor, from Ryzen 5 7535HS to Ryzen 9 7940H. It packs 16GB of RAM and three options for storage — 512GB, 1TB, or 2TB. As noted above, there’s also an option to add NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 or RTX 4050 GPU.

It also comes with two USB-A ports and two USB-C ports, one of which can be used to charge the laptop. There’s also an HDMI 2.1 port, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and a microSD card reader. The device is powered by a 76Wh battery which is claimed to offer a battery life of up to 10 hours on a single charge.

The Acer Swift X 16 will have a starting price of $1,250 for the base model and will be available for purchase in the North American market from July this year.
