Skyrocketing RAM price now affecting gaming handhelds

Rising memory prices are starting to cause real-world delays, and it’s no longer just smartphone makers and PC builders feeling the impact. The latest fallout has reached the gaming handheld space, with AYN confirming shipment delays for its top-tier Odin 3 Ultra model due to a sharp increase in RAM costs.

AYN said deliveries of the Odin 3 Ultra—configured with 24GB of RAM and 1TB of storage—have been pushed back to mid-January 2026. The company pointed directly to “skyrocketing” RAM prices and a short-term memory supply crunch as the reason behind the delay.

To ease the situation, AYN is offering affected customers two options. Buyers can either keep their Ultra preorder and wait for the revised shipping timeline, or switch to the slightly toned-down Odin 3 Max, which comes with 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage. Those choosing the Max will receive a refund for the price difference, as the Max is currently priced at $449, compared to $519 for the Ultra.

Aside from memory and storage, the two models are largely identical. Both are powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset and feature active cooling, a 6″ 120Hz OLED display, an 8,000mAh battery, expandable storage via microSD, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and external display support. For most users, the downgrade primarily affects multitasking headroom and storage space rather than raw performance.

The situation highlights how broader component pricing trends are beginning to affect even niche hardware categories. If RAM prices remain elevated, companies and consumers may be forced to rethink configurations.

The situation mirrors concerns already brewing in the smartphone market, where rising memory costs could lead to more conservative RAM configurations. This could become an issue for entry-level models running feature-heavy custom UI skins, as well as premium flagships expected to handle increasingly complex AI features on-device. How the industry looks once the dust settles will be worth watching.

AYN Loki Zero Handheld gaming console with AMD Athlon Silver APU starts shipping

AYN Technologies unveiled the Loki Zero handheld gaming console back in July 2022. Customers have had to wait a long time since the brand ditched its initial plan to ship out the consoles in Q4 2022. That being said, the consoles have now started shipping to people who have pre-ordered them.

AYN Loki Zero specs

The AYN Loki Zero features a 6-inch IPS display with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels, offering a standard 60Hz refresh rate. Under the hood, it’s powered by the AMD Athlon Silver 3050e APU, complemented by AMD Radeon Graphics. You have the choice of either 4GB or 8GB DDR4-2400 RAM, and it comes with an onboard 1X SODIMM slot for memory expansion. Storage options include 64GB or 128GB of eMMC on board, along with a 32GB Micro SD slot.

For connectivity, it offers Wi-Fi 5 and Bluetooth 4.2. In terms of ports, you’ll find a USB 3.2 DP and a 3.5mm audio jack. Powering this device is a 46.2Wh battery, ensuring decent runtime. Notably, it also boasts RGB LEDs with full controller support and features like M1/M2 Flail Sensor, Analog Triggers, and a Gyroscope.

AYN Technologies has dropped the curtain on the Odin 2 gaming handheld, revealing both its release date and an array of specifications. This new device, slated to follow in the footsteps of the Snapdragon 845-powered Odin, showcases a significant upgrade, sporting the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset.

The Odin 2 doesn’t cut corners on memory and storage either as it comes with LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 4.0 flash storage. Ayn Loki handheld gaming console running Windows OS launched; price starts at $299

Any Loki series has been announced by the company as its most affordable Windows-powered handheld gaming consoles. The series has multiple models with different memory configurations and specifications.

The cheapest model in the lineup is the Ayn Loki Mini which has a starting price of $299, lower than the price of the recently launched Steam Deck from Valve.

The Ayn Loki Mini is powered by the Intel Alder Lake U chip along with 64GB of internal storage. The standard model packs AMD Ryzen 5 6600U chipset and offers three storage options — 64GB, 256GB, and 512GB, costing $499, $599, and $699 respectively.

There’s also a top-end model named Ayn Loki Max which is powered by the AMD Ryzen 7 6800U processor and comes with 512GB of internal storage for the price of $799. All the models have support for user-expandable storage.

All three models come with the same 6-inch LCD IPS display with 1920 x 1080 pixels screen resolution. There’s also a 3.5mm headset jack, a USB-C port with support for video output, along with support for Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.2 for connectivity.

Ayn Loki will start taking pre-orders from today (9:00 PM Eastern Time) but the actual date of availability is not yet known. As of now, the company has revealed the pricing of the entry-level model, which costs $299.

AYN is teasing the Loki Mini model powered by an Intel Alder Lake processor as the most affordable Windows handheld device so far. The Loki Mini Windows handheld bears a close semblance with the recently unveiled AYANEO Air Windows handheld console. Processor specs and pricing details have been leaked for the device via a tweet by Cary Golomb.

As per the tweet, the Loki Mini has a storage capacity of 64GB with a rumored price tag of $299. There are four more models in the Loki lineup which are pricier than the Mini. They all feature AMD APUs and RDNA2 iGPU. They also offer an expanded storage capacity and some additional features.

The teaser shows that the new Loki Mini sports a similar design to previous Odin models. Hong Kong-based AYN is a handheld console manufacturer and released the Odin model last year. The ARM-based model which runs on Android was launched via a crowdfunding campaign last year. Full specs of the Loki models are still in bits at this time. The tipsters are however hinting that AYN could refresh the processors that will be present in the new model. The new AMD Mendocino processors will likely replace the current Qualcomm or MediaTek SoCs in previous models.

Up to 8GB of RAM could be available in the new Loki models with up to 128GB of storage. Connectivity will likely be through Bluetooth 5.2, Wi-Fi 6, USB-C 3.1, and an audio jack. The device could also come with an HDMI port and a MicroSD slot for expandable storage. The Odin model had a 5,000mAh battery, but it remains to be seen whether this could be increased in the Loki lineup. We also expect some improvements from the screen set up in terms of resolution, while the screen size may be maintained.

As with the Odin models, AYN could introduce a crowdfunding campaign for the Loki devices. Pricing will also be made to be competitive with the previous Odin offerings. We could thus see more teasers ahead of a potential launch of the Loki handhelds.
