Apple had recently announced that it had plans to increase the price for battery replacements for a number of its mobile devices, including the iPhone, iPad, and MacBooks. And now, it appears that this change has finally been rolled out.

The Cupertino based giant had first announced the battery replacement cost rise back in February. These changes would’ve affected its popular smartphone, tablets, and notebook lineup. Now, the brand is apparently rolling out the new price update across the globe. If this news is true, it marks the second time the iPhone maker has hiked the battery replacement prices since September of last year.

According to a new report, there are multiple tiers to the battery replacement pricing that will now go live starting this month. This change will not only be for the US market, but will also include the global markets. As of right now, the battery replacement for the iPhone 14 series will cost around 99 US Dollars across the lineup. On the other hand, the iPhone 5 to iPhone 8 will have battery change cost around 69 US Dollars, which is up from 49 US Dollars.

Similarly, the iPhone X to iPhone 13 series will see a price hike from 69 US Dollars for battery replacements to 89 US Dollars. Meanwhile, the price hike for replacing the battery on the MacBook will range from 30 US Dollars for the Air model (from 129 US Dollars to 159 US Dollars) to 50 US Dollars (from 199 US Dollars to 249 US Dollars) on the Pro and base models. Lastly, the iPads are also seeing a rise replacements costs, but it does not affect every model. The price hike can range from 20 US Dollars on older Pro, mini, and Air variants, while the base iPad has seen a sizeable jump from 99 US Dollars to 199 US Dollars.

Apple had just recently launched the highly anticipated iPhone 14 series. Recently, we had reported on the battery capacity of the new iPhones being revealed, showcasing a larger battery pack than the iPhone 13 lineup. However, it appears that the battery replacement cost for these new devices will also be higher than the last gen iPhones.

For those unaware, apart from the iPhone 14 Pro Max model and the lack of a mini variant, the rest of the lineup saw a slight bump in battery packs. But according to a 9To5Mac report, the Cupertino based giant’s latest iPhones will have costlier battery replacements. Apparently, the battery replacement for the iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro, and iPhone 14 Pro Max will cost around 99 US Dollars.

In comparison, the brand’s iPhone 13 series battery replacement only cost 69 US Dollars. In other words, the company has just hiked the price tag by around 43 percent, despite battery capacities being mostly similar between the two generations. The aforementioned prices was for the US, meanwhile, the UK pricing for iPhone 14 series battery replacement is around 105 Pounds, which is again a rise from 69 Pounds for the previous generation.

Keep in mind that these prices are only for those iPhone models that are out of the one year warranty or the iPhones which do not have AppleCare+ protection. Your new iPhone 14 series’ battery will likely last for a couple of years. So, one might have to pay the price for a battery replacements a few years later. Although, the AppleCare+ will offer free unlimited repair for those subscribed to the plan.

Sony has made some announcements that will get owners of Xperia phones hold on to their phones for longer.

According to the Chinese blog, ITHome, Sony has announced that it will introduce a battery replacement program for some of its older Xperia smartphone models. The replacement program will be available in select regions which we have no list of now.

The list of devices (posted below) that will be eligible for the battery replacement program is mainly flagships and the average price is said to be about CNY 230 (~$34):

• Xperia XZ
• Xperia XZs
• Xperia XZ1
• Xperia XZ Premium
• Xperia XZ2
• Xperia XZ3

The source also reveals that users will also get a free USB-C charging cable and a 10% discount on other repairs.

It has also been revealed that Sony has promised that Xperia 1 II flagship will receive a total of three OS upgrades. This should definitely be good news for owners of the Sony flagship seeing as some other manufacturers such as Samsung have also announced three OS upgrades for their flagships.

The Xperia 1 II is yet to get the Android 11 update but its latest update brings October’s security patch to the phone. The Xperia 5 II, its second flagship, is also yet to get the Android 11 update.

Previously, Xiaomi had announced that it will start a relief service month in March 2020. The aim of this service was to provide services for Xiaomi smartphone and home appliances in its IoT portfolio. This included maintenance, disinfection, cleaning and more. And now, Xiaomi has announced that it will offer battery replacement for select few flagship models for just 49 Yuan (roughly 7 USD) in China.

The service month lasts from 1st to the 31st of March 2020. During this period, one can request for on site cleaning, maintenance and more for various Xiaomi products, including washing machines, ACs or even TVs and more. Although its extremely affordable service plans for smartphones are just as attractive as well.

According to previous service plans, Xiaomi’s 49 Yuan services had battery replacements for the Xiaomi Mi 8 series, Mi 9 series, Mi MIX 2, Mi MIX 3, Mi MIX 2s, Mi MAX 3, Redmi 6 and even Redmi 6A. But the newest service plans also seek to include an additional 15 handset models, namely Mi 8SE, Mi 8 Explorer Edition, Mi 8 Youth Edition, Mi 8 Fingerprint Edition. Similarly, the Mi 9 series includes the Mi 9SE, Mi 9 Pro 5G, Mi 9 Explorer Edition.

For those who wish to claim the service, can go to the Xiaomi After Sales Services on WeChat public account to enquire about the services they can avail. One can even mail directly to the after sales service or call via the support number (400-100-5678). Notably, no further charges will be levied and the 49 Yuan includes both labor and actual charges.

A number of phone manufacturers have battery replacement plans where you can send in your old phone and have the battery replaced. The advantage is that you get to hold on to your phone for much longer and this also means there is less e-waste. Xiaomi also has its own battery replacement program and for a limited period, the service will cost 50% less.

The news has been well-received especially by owners of the Mi 6 flagship which launched in 2017 as it means the 2-year-old flagship can be held on to for longer. Its battery replacement is supposed to cost ¥99/15 (¥59 cost of battery + ¥40 for the replacement charge). However, the price slash means you only have to pay ¥49.5 (~$7).

The price slash began yesterday and it will run until the 10th of November. You also get a free screen protector applied for you. We have no info about the price for other models but since this is limited to China, not a lot of our readers will be able to take advantage of the price slash.

Earlier this month, Huawei had announced a new incentive campaign where it offered its users a chance to have the battery of their smartphone replaced at a flat price of 99 yuan (approximately $14).

The offer, which is currently exclusive to China, started from 5th December and will run till March 5, 2019, giving enough time for all interested users to catch the offer.

Owners of the models that make up the company’s flagship phones, including Mate-series, P-series, Honor series, Enjoy series, Maimang series, Nova series, have an opportunity to get their failing smartphone batteries changed, all at the same 99 yuan cost, roughly $14.

Now, the company has announced the extension of the offer, which includes more models under this battery replacement program, bringing the total to 59 models. The new models, which are now part of the offer, includes Honor Play 6A, Honor Play 6, Play 7X, Play 7A, Play 7, Play 5C, Honor V9, Honor 9, Play 5A, and Play 8C.

Commenting on the program, Li Xiaolong, Vice President of Huawei‘s mobile phone product line, said on Weibo that the company is doing this so that the users don’t switch to duplicate batteries, which affects the phone’s as well as user’s safety.

The amount charged by Huawei covers the cost of the spare parts and labor for a single model. Customers can avail themselves of this offer by visiting any of Huawei’s authorized service centers across China but excluding those in Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan.
