CPU Performance

Both Exynos 1380 and Snapdragon 778G 5G are octa-core chips, although they have different core clusters. The Exynos chip has four Cortex-A78 performance cores clocked at 2.4 GHz and four Cortex-A55 power-efficient cores with 2.0 GHz clock speed.

The Snapdragon chip has one Kryo 670 Prime (Cortex-A78) core running at 2.4 GHz, three Kryo 670 Gold (Cortex-A78) at the same clock speed, and four Kryo 670 Silver (Cortex-A55) running at 1.8 GHz.

On the Geekbench platform, which measures CPU performance, both chips have obtained similar scores in single-core and multi-core tests. However, the CPU test on AnTuTu tests favours Snapdragon 778G 5G over Exynos 1380 by a small margin.

GPU & NPU Performance

The Exynos 1380 chipset has Mali-G68 MP5 GPU, while the Snapdragon 778G 5G chip has Adreno 642 to handle graphics tasks. Both are capable GPUs for lightweight to medium gaming needs. However, the Adreno 642 (in Snapdragon 778G 5G) has a slight edge over the Mali-G68 MP5 (in Exynos 1380) on GPU benchmarks, such as 3D Mark WildLife Extreme.

The Snapdragon 778G 5G also has an AI advantage as the Hexagon 770 inside the chip can perform 12 trillion operations per second (TOPS), while the NPU in Exynos 1380 has 4.9 TOPS capacity.

Camera Capabilities

Both Exynos and Snapdragon chips have a triple image signal processor (ISP). It’s the Spectra 570L on the Snapdragon chip, but Samsung hasn’t revealed the name of the ISP.

Both chips support up to 200-megapixel single camera and up to 64-megapixel single camera with zero shutter lag. The Snapdragon chip also supports zero shutter lag for 36-megapixel + 22-megapixel dual cameras and 22-megapixel + 22-megapixel + 22-megapixel triple cameras.

The chipsets support up to 4K video recording at 30 frames per second (fps). The Snapdragon chip also supports 720p slow-mo videos at 240 fps.

Connectivity Features

Both Exynos 1380 and Snapdragon 778G 5G chips have all the necessary connectivity features like 5G, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth (5.3 on Exynos, 5.2 on Snapdragon) and satellite systems (GLONASS, Beidou, GPS, QZSS, Galileo).

The Exynos chip has an integrated 5G modem, offering up to 3.79 Gbps of download speed and up to 1.28 Gbps of upload speed. The Qualcomm 778G 5G, on the other hand, has a Snapdragon X53 5G modem with 3.7 Gbps maximum download speed and 1.6 Gbps maximum upload speed.

Miscellaneous

Both Snapdragon 778G 5G and Exynos 1380 support Full HD+ resolution display with up to 144Hz refresh rate. They don’t differ in terms of display capabilities.

Both chips also support UFS 3.1 storage and LPDDR5 RAM, although the Snapdragon chip supports higher RAM of 16GB RAM (vs. 8GB on Exynos 1380).

Exynos 1380 vs Snapdragon 778G 5G: Which is Better?

Snapdragon 778G 5G and Exynos 1380 are good mid-range chipsets. Both have similar CPU performance. However, the Snapdragon chip has a slight GPU advantage, resulting in better gaming performance. It also has a better NPU with higher TOPS than Exynos 1380.

Exynos 1380’s advantages include a newer Bluetooth standard and an advanced fabrication process that results in better power efficiency.

Choosing one of these two chipsets really comes down to your needs. But If I had to pick one, I’d go with the Snapdragon 778G 5G.

After launching the Galaxy S23 flagship series smartphones a couple of months back, Samsung is now focusing on the mid-range lineup, and in line with that, the company has today launched the Samsung Galaxy M54 in the Middle East.

Looking at the specifications, the phone appears to be a slightly bumped-up version of the Samsung Galaxy A54 with a larger screen, a higher resolution display, and a bigger battery.

The Samsung Galaxy M54 features a 6.7-inch Full HD+ Super AMOLED display offering a screen resolution of 2400 x 1080 pixels, a refresh rate of 120Hz, and Gorilla Glass 5 protection. Under the hood, the device is powered by the company’s own Exynos 1380 processor, which is manufactured using a 5nm process.

As for the memory, the phone comes packed with 8GB of RAM and offers two options in terms of internal storage — 128GB and 256GB. There’s also a microSD card slot, allowing users to expand the phone’s storage capacity.

In the camera department, there’s a triple-camera setup on the back consisting of a 108-megapixel primary camera sensor with OIS, an 8-megapixel ultrawide lens, and a 2-megapixel macro lens. On the front side, there’s a 32-megapixel snapper for selfies and video calling.

The smartphone runs the Android 13 operating system out-of-the-box with the company’s own One UI 5.1 custom interface on top. It is powered by a 6,000mAh battery and comes with support for 25W fast charging.

Currently, the company has not revealed the pricing information as well as availability details. However, we expect the Galaxy A54 smartphone to soon get launched in other markets.

While the global release date has not been confirmed yet, it seems that the Indian market will be the first to receive the device. With leaked specifications and design renders already available, we have compiled all the relevant information in one place, so you don’t have to go searching for it.

Samsung Galaxy A54 teaser

Design and display

In terms of design, the Galaxy A54 will undergo a significant change compared to its previous model, with the elimination of the camera bump on the rear in favor of separate protrusions for the triple camera system. This camera design closely resembles that of the Galaxy S23. The back of the phone will be flat, while the edges will be rounded to provide a more comfortable grip. The device will come in black and white shades, along with a bunch of vibrant color options.

According to renders, the bezels will be almost uniform on all sides, and the phone will feature a small punch hole at the center of the display for the front-facing camera. Talking about the display specs, we can expect the Galaxy A54 to come with a 6.4-inch sAMOLED Full HD display with a resolution of 2340 x 1080p. The display will likely offer 120Hz refresh rate enabling a smooth scrolling experience as well as high frame-rate gaming.

Performance

Under the hood, the Galaxy A54 will likely feature the newly launched Samsung Exynos 1380 chipset. Manufactured on a 5nm process, this chipset boasts efficient performance with its four ARM Cortex A78 cores clocked at 2.4GHz and four ARM Cortex A55 cores clocked at 2GHz. It also includes the Mali G68 GPU, enabling it to support Full HD+ resolution and refresh rates of up to 144Hz. The chipset is compatible with both LPDDR4x and LPDDR5 RAM as well as UFS 3.1 storage.

Additionally, this chip offers support for 4K video recording at 30fps with EIS and HDR, along with real-time object recognition capabilities to enhance camera performance. It’s worth noting that this processor is 5G compatible, and it can connect to both mmWave and sub-6GHz networks, providing download speeds of up to 3.67Gbps and upload speeds of up to 1.28Gbps.

In December 2022, the phone surfaced on Geekbench 5 featuring the Exynos 1380 chip, 6GB RAM, and Android 13. It achieved a respectable score of 776 in the single-core test and 2599 in the multi-core test. For reference, this performance is comparable to devices such as the Samsung Galaxy A73, indicating that the phone’s performance is likely quite close to that of a Snapdragon 778G chip.

Reports suggest that the phone will offer a maximum of 8GB RAM and 256GB internal storage. The phone will be powered by a 5,000mAh battery that supports 25W fast charging and is anticipated to have an IP67 rating, providing dust and water resistance. Along with dual SIM functionality, the device will feature NFC, OTG, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. It will run on OneUI 5.0, which is based on Android 13.

Camera

The main camera cluster will have a total of three units. First, there will be a 50MP primary sensor on the back with support for OIS. This replaces the 64MP primary camera on the Galaxy A53. Although the number of megapixels has reduced, it will probably be a better sensor with a better lens than last year. In addition to the primary sensor, we will also get a 12MP ultrawide lens, 5MP macro unit on the back. For selfies, the punch-hole will house a 32MP sensor on the front.

Pricing

Leaked pricing information for the Galaxy A54 in Europe has been circulating online. The most widespread reports suggest that the phone will be available in two different configurations. The 8GB RAM + 128GB storage variant is expected to be priced at €519, while the 8GB RAM + 256GB storage variant is anticipated to cost €569. Samsung is also rumored to have lower prices for the upcoming device in some regions.

Since the last quarter of 2022, the rumour mill has been actively leaking information on the specifications of the Samsung Galaxy A54 5G and the Galaxy A34 5G. It is now being speculated that the device may go official this month in multiple markets. Now, reliable tipster Steve Hemmerstoffer (aka OnLeaks) has tipped the launch date for the A5 and A34.

The tipster has claimed that he has learned from a reliable source that the Galaxy A54 5G and A34 5G will debut on March 15. This seems possible since the rumour mill has leaked almost everything about the two phones.

Galaxy A54 5G specifications (rumored)

The Galaxy A54 5G is set to launch with a 6.4-inch, 120Hz OLED panel. It will be powered by the new Exynos 1380 chipset. The device is expected to arrive with memory options that go up to 8 GB RAM and 256 GB storage. The phone will draw power from a 5,000mAh battery with 25W fast charging support.

The phone’s camera system will feature a 50-megapixel main shooter, along with a 12-megapixel ultra-wide snapper and a 5-megapixel macro camera. The front-facing camera will include a 32MP sensor for stunning selfies. The device will have an IP67 certification against water and dust and retain the 3.5mm audio jack.

Galaxy A34 5G specifications (rumored)

The Galaxy A34 5G is rumored to have a 6.6-inch, 120Hz OLED screen. It is likely to be powered by the Dimensity 1080 chipset, with memory options up to 8GB RAM and 256 GB storage. Like the A54, the A34 will have a 5,000mAh battery with 25W fast charging support.

The camera setup on the back will have a 48-megapixel primary shooter, an 8-megapixel ultra-wide lens, and a 5-megapixel macro camera. For selfies, it will have a 13-megapixel front-facing camera.

The Galaxy A54 and A34 will run on OneUI 5.0-based Android 13. There is a possibility that both phones may launch with the newer OneUI 5.1. Both A-series handsets will have an under-display fingerprint scanner and IP67-rated chassis.

Samsung has just announced two new chipsets for its mobile devices. The new SoCs are built for mid range smartphones and are dubbed the Exynos 1380 and Exynos 1330, which features various improvements in their performance.

Exynos 1380

Talking about the higher end model first, the Exynos 1380 SoC is a 5nm based processor that has four ARM Cortex A78 cores clocked at 2.4GHz, paired with four ARM Cortex A55 cores that are clocked at 2GHz. This chipset also features the Mali G68 GPU and can run devices with Full HD+ resolution and up to 144Hz refresh rate. The new chipset is compatible with LPDDR4x and even LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 3.1 storage as well. It also houses an NPU that can compute 4.9TOPS (Trillion Operations Per Second).

The Exynos 1380 SoC houses a Triple ISP that supports up to 200 megapixel cameras with 64 megapixel resolution and zero shutter lag. The chip also supports 4K recording at 30fps with EIS, HDR, and support for real time object recognition for improved camera performance. Notably, the processor is 5G enabled and supports mmWave and sub 6GHz networks that can reach peach download speeds for 3.67Gbps and 1.28Gbps upload speeds. Other features include, support for BeiDou, Galileo, GLONASS, GPS, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, NFC, and more. Interestingly enough, various leaks and certification have hinted at the Galaxy A54 5G featuring this chipset.

Exynos 1330

The Exynos 1330 is another new 5nm chipset that is geared more towards entry level smartphones. It offers two Cortex A78 CPU cores clocked at 2.4GHz, six Cortex A55 CPU cores clocked at 2GHz, and the Mali G68 MP2 GPU. This processor also supports Full HD resolution but it only supports up to 120Hz refresh rate. Although, it is still compatible with LPDDR4X and LPDDR5 RAM chips and UFS 3.1 and even UFS 2.2 storage.

The Exynos 1330’s ISP supports up to 108 megapixel cameras that can capture images at 32 megapixel resolution with zero shutter lag. It can even support a twin 16 megapixel camera setup with zero shutter lag as well. The MFC (Multi Format Codec) can even capture video footage at 4K resolution at 30 fps in HEVC, H.264, and VP8 codecs. The South Korean tech giant’s first entry level chips comes with a built-in 5G modem capable of sub 6GHz 5G networks.

Thanks to this, it can hit speeds download speeds up to 2.55Gbps and upload speeds of up to 1.28Gbps. Other notable features includes, support for BeiDou, Galileo, GLONASS, GPS, Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth 5.2, NFC, and more. Based on recent rumors and sightings on certification sites, the Galaxy A14 5G will likely be the first model to debut with this chipset.

Recently, Qualcomm confirmed that the next-gen Samsung Galaxy S series smartphones will exclusively use Snapdragon chipset worldwide. But this doesn’t mean the South Korean conglomerate has stopped developing new mobile chips under its Exynos brand.

A new finding confirms the same. Samsung may soon announce two new Exynos chipsets.

Two new Samsung Exynos SoCs have been spotted on Bluetooth SIG. These chips are called Exynos 1380 and Exynos 1330.

As their name suggests, they are likely mid-range chipsets. The Exynos 1380 could be the successor of the Exynos 1280 found inside Galaxy A53, Galaxy A33, and Galaxy M33.

On the other hand, the Exynos 1330 could be the successor of either the Exynos 850 or the Exynos 880.

According to the listings on Bluetooth SIG, these two SoCs will carry support for Bluetooth 5.3. It will be possible via a separate RF chip called Samsung Bluetooth Controller v6.

SamMobile suggests that the Exynos 1380 could feature at least two ARM Cortex-A series high-performance CPU cores. It might also come with an ARM Mali-G615 CPU and an integrated 5G modem.

The Exynos 1380 is expected to power the upcoming Samsung Galaxy A54 and Galaxy A34. It might be also found inside other mid-range Galaxy M and Galaxy F series phones.

The chipset was used in the Pixel 6 series and offered some decent performance. Now a new report suggests the South Korean company is working on Google’s next generation Tensor as well as its own Exynos 1380 SoC.

As per a report by GalaxyClub, Samsung is testing a next-gen Tensor chipset. The chipset with model number S5P9865 is said to be the third-generation Google Tensor chipset that will power the Pixel 8 series. The development board of the chipset has the code name ‘Ripcurrent’ and the chip itself is codenamed ‘Zuma’. The first-generation Tensor SoC also had a similar model number (S5P9845), so it is assumed that the mentioned chipset is a Samsung-manufactured Tensor Soc.

Reports have suggested that Tensor 2 would be developed on a developer board called “Cloudripper,” which means the newly discovered model number (S5P9865) would likely be the third generation of Tensor SoC.

The rumored Exynos 1380 SoC, on the contrary, is expected to be the successor to Exynos 1280 SoC which was launched in April this year. As per the report, the Exynos 1280 Soc is being developed and tested under the product code S5E8835. The Exynos 1280 is found on the Galaxy A53, so we can expect its successor to power Samsung Galaxy A54.

Samsung is yet to confirm any details about the development of new SoCs. The information above is based on speculations, so we suggest you take it with a pinch of salt. We hope to learn more details in the coming days.
