Attractive new Smart watch from Elephone

Elephone have today sent over a render of their first foray in to the smart watch market and I would have to say that it is an attractive looking thing.

The new Smart watch from Elephone features a true round faced screen (as opposed to some that are square with the edges hidden behind the bezel and casings) that does not have the flat tyre effect that others like the Moto 360 have been blighted by.

From the limited information provided, Elephone say it will be highly cost-effective and feature exquisite workmanship and come with a heart rate sensor built in.

Style wise if the actual watch lives up to the renders, this certainly looks to be one of the most upmarket watches to come out of China.

What is as yet unknown is the internal specification of the watch, an educated guess would be a Mediatek Aster MT2502A SoC, however if they were to go with the newer MT2601 SoC then support for Android Wear would be possible.

With Google having recently announced their plan to return to mainland China as a provider of consumer Web services (all be it in a cut down manner), it would be a real coupe for a new Smart watch from Elephone if they could get the phone out with Android Wear at a decent price and specification.

ECOO E05 details leaked, due end of September

As is the case with many phone manufacturers in China the ECOO sub brand is part of Elephones plan to fill the market with affordable stylish handsets.

Today more details of the ECOO E05 have been leaked, including renders of the handset.

The E05 will again be powered by a Mediatek MT6753 octa-core chipset, however unlike most of the Elephone main brand handsets the E05 features a 5-inch 1080P (LTPS) display, 3GB of RAM, a 13MP rear camera, a 5MP front camera, the phone also features a fingerprint sensor and should be for sale by the end of September.

Looking closely at the leaked images, we can see that the phone features an iPhone 6 inspired chassis design, however they have given the alloy a nice visual touch by mixing the surface finishes, the highly polished centre line really stands out.

It would also appear that ECOO have chosen to use 2.5d glass for the front screen.

looking at the final render of the gold phone with a representation of the OS, it would appear that the bezels are fairly narrow (perhaps 2mm) and unlike many of the Elephone handsets e.g the P7000 and P8000 there are no hidden black boarders, so fans of small bezels will be happy (if the render is a proper representation of the finished handset when it is released towards the end of September.

Looking at the rear we can see the 13mp rear camera along with what looks like a single tone LED flash and the finger print sensor, the back looks very smooth as yet ECOO have not advised what material will be used.

The previous ECOO Eo4 was a 5.5″ handset and featured an MT6752 processor and achieved a moderate degree of success, will the E05 be on your list of budget phones for consideration? what price are you hoping to see the phone released at?

Elephone M2 more pictures and confirmed specs

Elephone have today sent over several images of their soon to be released Elephone M2 Business phone, its shaping up to be a great looking phone, unfortunately the images do not show the screen in use so I cannot advise on the size of the bezels.

The confirmed specification is as follows Mediatek MT6753 octa-core SOC running at 1.5GHz, 5.5″ 1080p display, 13MP rear camera, 5MP front camera, fingerprint scanner and metal unibody.

These are pretty much standard specifications for a mid range handset at the current time, so the phone will need to have some standout design and software elements or a very competitive price to compete and win business.

A lot of opinion is being thrown in to the ring regarding Elephone’s high turnover of new models, are you on the side of more choice equals better choice? or do you long for the days when manufacturers released 1 or 2 phones a year? or does the fact they are being aimed at ‘different’ markets make much of a difference to you opinion.

Elephone Q phone a new small phone

With the Elephone Q phone, Elephone are set to release yet another new smartphone on to the market, but this time rather than go bigger and add higher specs, they are doing something very different.

The Elephone Q phone will run Android Kitkat but it’s dimensions are just 90mm x 43mm x 11.5mm, in order to be this small the screen is a 2.45″ TFT LCD with capacitive touch and support for 256 thousand colours with a resolution of just 240 x 432.

The phone will be running Android Kitkat on a 1ghz Mediatek MTK6572 soc with 4gb ROM and 512kb RAM, storage is upgradable via micro SD up to an additional 32gb.

Power will be provided by a 550mAH Lithium Ion battery, given the smaller screen size as well as the lower clock speed of the MTK6572, the phone should see ok amounts of usage from the battery, standby time is quoted at 110 hours with talk time at 4 hours (it wont set any records for its longevity).

A lot of you are probably asking at this time, whats the point of such a phone? who wants or needs something like this? is there even a market for such a phone?

The Elephone Q phone is looking to fill a niche, they are hoping that the market for a small phone that features high-quality sound for use as an MP3 player, along with features like pedometer, smartwake, sleep monitoring and sedentry timer etc as well as the ability to run apps and make calls will make it a smart choice to fill your pocket when you don’t want to be carrying the bulk of a large phone or tablet.

Will you consider something like the Elephone Q phone? would you have one of these as your go to phone for your gym workout or when out running or cycling? or perhaps this could be a phone for the pockets of your younger children that want a smartphone but are not yet in a position or at an age when you want to give them a high end smartphone.

This is either a very smart move from Elephone or a move that will see them left with inventory un-moved, but that will depend more on how it is welcomed to the market and how big the market they can carve out is.

As yet pricing and release schedules have not been announced, but judging by the video below, the phone appears to be nearing completion, so I would expect Elephone to be readying the release fairly soon.

Xiaomi are well known for their range of high quality and well priced mobile handsets, what they are less well known for is their desire to fill our homes with gadgets that offer the same ideals.

Elephone now working with ZUK

Elephone have today announced that they will be collaborating with ZUK, to break the overseas market and will be responsible for overseas marketing and sales of the ZUK Z1.

Whilst this may seem like an unusual idea, it is not uncommon for China based companies to work together and will hopefully see better international distribution and marketing across both brands.

ZUK are backed by Lenovo who purchased Motorola and have access to a huge portfolio of Mobile phone patents, giving them a chance to go after territories like the US and Europe directly, rather than through resellers importing devices, the patents are something that other China phone companies lack and possibly a major reason many are not trying to get in to the US and UK markets where patents and copyrights are taken much more seriously.

I hope that this means we will be seeing much more of ZUK this side of the pond and that the brands will both go from strength to strength.

New video showing the upcoming 5″ phone from Elephone sub-brand Trunk

Elephone have sent over a video showing the first phone from their new sub-brand Trunk.

The phone features a 5″ HD screen, Snapdragon processor (SOC unconfirmed), 2gb Ram, 16gb Rom, Omnivision 13mp camera (the video states 8mp physical so I assume this will be 13mp via interpolation), soft and comfortable hand feeling (will this be some form of rubberised back?), selection of colourful interchangeable back covers, choice of black or white frames.

Elephone P6000 Pro 3GB Version running Flyme OS

Elephone have today released another video, this time showing the 3gb version of the updated P6000 Pro running Flyme OS 4.5.1A based on Android 5.1

Its really nice to see that Elephone are working hard to bring rom support to their handsets, Flyme looks to be working well and seems to be pretty much complete feature wise.

Performance wise Flyme OS on the 3gb P6000 Pro seems to be doing pretty well, scoring a reasonable Antutu score of 36888 (lets not forget this is not a flagship device and is running a ported rom), theming is also looks to be working fully, the windows 10 theme looks interesting, hopefully we will be getting to see this on the dual boot Intel version of the Vowney when it is released later in the year.
