<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="576" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/galaxy-s26-features-kv-1024x576.jpg?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-741137" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/galaxy-s26-features-kv-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/galaxy-s26-features-kv-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/galaxy-s26-features-kv-768x432.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/galaxy-s26-features-kv-696x392.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/galaxy-s26-features-kv-1068x601.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/galaxy-s26-features-kv-746x420.jpg 746w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/galaxy-s26-features-kv.jpg 1457w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p>A new leak suggests the device could pack a 5,000mAh battery, which doesn&#8217;t sound particularly surprising until you look at the rest of the rumored specifications. The Galaxy S27 Pro is <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2026/05/21/samsung-galaxy-s27-pro-display-size-leak/">said</a> to feature a 6.47-inch display, although the latest leak rounds that up to 6.5 inches. Either way, it would make the device noticeably smaller than the Galaxy S27 Ultra.</p>

<p>To be fair, the Ultra model was previously reported to feature a slightly bigger cell in the 5,200mAh to 5,500mAh range. But battery life isn&#8217;t determined by capacity alone.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="577" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/Samsung-Galaxy-S27-Ultra-Ai-render-1024x577-1.png?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-741138" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/Samsung-Galaxy-S27-Ultra-Ai-render-1024x577-1.png 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/Samsung-Galaxy-S27-Ultra-Ai-render-1024x577-1-300x169.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/Samsung-Galaxy-S27-Ultra-Ai-render-1024x577-1-768x433.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/Samsung-Galaxy-S27-Ultra-Ai-render-1024x577-1-696x392.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/Samsung-Galaxy-S27-Ultra-Ai-render-1024x577-1-745x420.png 745w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure></div>

<p>The Pro&#8217;s smaller display should consume less power in day-to-day use, and Samsung may also opt for a slightly more conservative performance profile to better manage heat in the smaller chassis. If that happens, the gap in real-world battery life could end up being much smaller than the battery capacities suggest. In fact, the S27 Pro could potentially match, or even exceed, the Ultra&#8217;s endurance in certain usage scenarios.</p>

<p>For those wondering, the S27 Pro is also rumored to use the same Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro chipset as the Galaxy S27 Ultra. That means the two devices should benefit from similar efficiency gains at the silicon level.</p>

<p>The camera situation could be just as interesting.</p>

<p>Leaks suggest Samsung may bring the same main and ultra-wide sensors set to be used in the Ultra to the Pro model, while also adding a <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2026/05/28/740167/">50MP 3.5x ALoP telephoto</a> camera.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="526" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/CES_2025_Award-Engineer-Key_Feature_2-PC-1604x824-1-1024x526-1.webp?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-741139" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/CES_2025_Award-Engineer-Key_Feature_2-PC-1604x824-1-1024x526-1.webp 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/CES_2025_Award-Engineer-Key_Feature_2-PC-1604x824-1-1024x526-1-300x154.webp 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/CES_2025_Award-Engineer-Key_Feature_2-PC-1604x824-1-1024x526-1-768x395.webp 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/CES_2025_Award-Engineer-Key_Feature_2-PC-1604x824-1-1024x526-1-696x358.webp 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/CES_2025_Award-Engineer-Key_Feature_2-PC-1604x824-1-1024x526-1-818x420.webp 818w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure></div>

<p>The Ultra, on the other hand, is rumored to retire its 3x 10MP telephoto lens and rely on sensor cropping from the main 200MP camera up to 5x zoom. If that&#8217;s the case, the S27 Pro&#8217;s dedicated 3.5x telephoto camera could prove more useful for day-to-day photography.</p>

<p>Samsung will likely position the Ultra as the ultimate camera flagship in the lineup. But based on the leaks so far, the Pro model may actually end up being the more practical and more interesting option for most users.</p>

<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/category/samsung/">Samsung</a> may be considering a noticeable change for the future Samsung Galaxy S27 lineup. According to new supply chain reports, the company is exploring the use of OLED panels from Chinese display maker BOE for at least some versions of the standard Galaxy S27.</p>

<p>If that ends up happening, it would be a fairly big shift for Samsung’s flagship phones, which have traditionally relied almost entirely on panels made by Samsung Display itself.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="768" height="432" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/Samsung-Galaxy-S27-Ultra-Ai-render-768x432-1.png?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-739430" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/Samsung-Galaxy-S27-Ultra-Ai-render-768x432-1.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/Samsung-Galaxy-S27-Ultra-Ai-render-768x432-1-300x169.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/Samsung-Galaxy-S27-Ultra-Ai-render-768x432-1-696x392.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/Samsung-Galaxy-S27-Ultra-Ai-render-768x432-1-747x420.png 747w" sizes="(max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px" /></figure></div>

<p>The reported reason mostly comes down to cost. BOE is said to have offered panels that are roughly $5 cheaper per unit compared to Samsung Display. That may not sound huge at first, but across millions of phones, the savings add up pretty quickly.</p>

<p>The timing also makes sense from Samsung’s side. Component costs, especially DRAM memory prices, have been rising again recently, and smartphone makers are under pressure to control production costs.</p>

<p>For now, reports suggest Samsung Display would still remain the primary supplier, with BOE acting more as a secondary source. Samsung <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2026/01/01/samsung-may-turn-to-cheaper-csot-displays-for-some-galaxy-a57-units/">already uses</a> panels from companies like TCL CSOT in some mid-range Galaxy devices, so the idea itself is not completely new. The bigger talking point is simply the possibility of BOE entering the flagship Galaxy S lineup.</p>

<p>There are also reports that the base Galaxy S27 could use an older OLED material set instead of Samsung Display’s latest-generation technology, again likely as part of the same cost-cutting effort.</p>

<p>Of course, display quality is one area where Samsung phones have traditionally had a very strong reputation, so some users will probably question whether panel consistency could change depending on the supplier. Samsung Display is still widely considered one of the best OLED manufacturers in the industry and even supplies panels for companies like Apple.</p>

<p>At the same time, most users would probably never notice small differences in everyday use if Samsung calibrates the panels properly.</p>

<p>The Galaxy S27 series is expected to launch sometime in early 2027, so there is plenty of time for Samsung’s plans to change. Still, the report does give an interesting look at how aggressively smartphone brands are now trying to manage flagship production costs behind the scenes.</p>

<p>There is an interesting leak about the Galaxy S27 Ultra’s camera system. Samsung may be removing a camera instead of upgrading it.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="576" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/galaxy-s26-ultra-features-kv-tb-1024x576.jpg?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-736967" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/galaxy-s26-ultra-features-kv-tb-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/galaxy-s26-ultra-features-kv-tb-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/galaxy-s26-ultra-features-kv-tb-768x432.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/galaxy-s26-ultra-features-kv-tb-1536x864.jpg 1536w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/galaxy-s26-ultra-features-kv-tb-696x392.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/galaxy-s26-ultra-features-kv-tb-1068x601.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/galaxy-s26-ultra-features-kv-tb-1920x1080.jpg 1920w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/galaxy-s26-ultra-features-kv-tb-747x420.jpg 747w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/galaxy-s26-ultra-features-kv-tb.jpg 2048w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure></div>

<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/category/samsung/">Samsung</a> moved to a dual telephoto setup with the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/01/14/samsung-galaxy-s21-ultra-launched-as-the-first-s-series-phone-with-s-pen-support/">Galaxy S21 Ultra</a>, enabling long-range zoom on its flagships. That shift is a big part of why the S Ultra lineup is still considered among the most capable camera phones today. It helps maintain clarity across different zoom levels without relying too heavily on cropping from the main sensor. If you haven’t guessed it already, the 3x telephoto lens is expected to be removed on the S27 Ultra.</p>

<p>According to reliable tipster Ice Universe, the 200MP main sensor will take on more of the workload. What does that actually mean? The main sensor would need to maintain image quality as you crop in, up to around 5x, where the periscope telephoto would take over.</p>

<p>While the 200MP figure still sounds impressive, there is a reason the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2026/02/25/samsung-galaxy-s26-ultra-launched-specs-price/">Galaxy S26 Ultra</a> uses 16-to-1 pixel binning, combining data from 16 pixels into one. The result, as you know, is a 12MP output. The phone can either crop into the 12MP binned output, or use the full 200MP image for more detail when zooming, which can introduce noticeable noise, especially in moderate to low light.</p>

<p>There is a third option, which is to rely on AI to manage that noise. But that approach also has its limits, often introducing artifacts. That is why Chinese smartphone makers like Oppo and Vivo are <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2026/04/01/vivo-x300-ultra-hands-on-it-might-as-well-be-called-the-x200s-ultra/">bundling their flagships with physical teleconverters</a> instead of pushing digital zoom too far on 200MP sensors.</p>

<p>There have also been reports suggesting Samsung could use a larger 1/1.12-inch 200MP ISOCELL sensor, which would help with image quality overall. However, based on past trends, a significantly larger 200MP sensor from Samsung itself does not seem very likely either. The company started with the 1/1.22-inch ISOCELL HP1 in 2021, and this year’s HP5 measures 1/1.56-inch.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="730" height="420" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/HHJ1m7xbQAAUR9w.jpg?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-736966" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/HHJ1m7xbQAAUR9w.jpg 730w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/HHJ1m7xbQAAUR9w-300x173.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/HHJ1m7xbQAAUR9w-696x400.jpg 696w" sizes="(max-width: 730px) 100vw, 730px" /></figure></div>

<p>So why remove the 3x telephoto in the first place? A <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2026/04/29/galaxy-s27-series-could-finally-bring-a-refreshed-camera-layout/">refreshed camera layout</a> is reportedly being considered, and the reason may be the addition of magnets for Qi2 compatibility. Removing the 3x lens could free up internal space for a proper magnetic ring and better accessory support.</p>

<p>That leads to a bigger question. What matters more here: camera versatility or Qi2 and magnetic accessories? Or is this simply a cost-saving decision that also enables a new design direction?</p>

<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/category/samsung/">Samsung</a> has stuck with a fairly familiar camera design on its Galaxy S phones for a while now. Since the Galaxy S22, the camera layout has barely changed, aside from a few small tweaks. That might finally change with the Galaxy S27 series.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="1000" height="750" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/Galaxy-S26-Ultra.jpg?x44794" alt="Galaxy-S26-Ultra" class="wp-image-728487" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/Galaxy-S26-Ultra.jpg 1000w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/Galaxy-S26-Ultra-300x225.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/Galaxy-S26-Ultra-768x576.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/Galaxy-S26-Ultra-696x522.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/Galaxy-S26-Ultra-560x420.jpg 560w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/Galaxy-S26-Ultra-80x60.jpg 80w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/Galaxy-S26-Ultra-265x198.jpg 265w" sizes="(max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px" /></figure></div>

<p>A new leak from South Korea suggests Samsung is looking at reworking the rear camera layout for the entire S27 lineup. The exact design is still unclear, but the reason behind the shift seems to be more practical than cosmetic.</p>

<p><strong>It isn&#8217;t about sensor or lens upgrades</strong></p>

<p>Samsung is reportedly planning to add built-in magnets to the Galaxy S27 series. This would enable <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2025/07/30/pixel-10-takes-the-lead-over-galaxy-s25-with-qi2-wireless-charging-upgrade/">proper Qi2 magnetic wireless charging</a> and support for magnetic accessories without needing a case. That includes things like snap-on chargers, power banks, wallets, and stands. It is something we have already seen elsewhere, but Samsung has been a bit slower to adopt it.</p>

<p>Interestingly, the current camera layout is said to be part of the problem. The vertical arrangement apparently takes up space that would otherwise be needed for a circular magnet ring. If that is the case, a redesign is less about looks and more about making room internally.</p>

<p>Samsung was expected to bring this feature to the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2026/02/25/samsung-galaxy-s26-and-s26-plus-launched-specs-price/">Galaxy S26 series</a>, but it never happened. Now, most of the signs point to the S27 as the point where it finally comes together.</p>

<p>If this change goes through, it would mark a shift away from a design that has been around for several generations. There are also hints that a similar camera layout might show up on another upcoming Samsung device before the S27 series, possibly the upcoming foldables.</p>

<p>That said, the leak also mentions cost management. A major design overhaul, as tipster Lanzuk on Naver notes, could be put on hold or delayed to keep R&amp;D expenses in check. Still, a new back design may arrive within the next few generations of Galaxy flagships.</p>

<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/category/samsung/">Samsung</a> might finally be getting serious about fixing one of its biggest weak spots in the flagship space: battery tech. Fresh leaks suggest the company is making real progress on silicon-carbon (Si-C) batteries, and the Galaxy S27 Ultra is now being tipped as the phone where this upgrade could actually show up.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="576" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/HB6y69HbgAEtUW5-1024x576.jpg?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-735484" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/HB6y69HbgAEtUW5-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/HB6y69HbgAEtUW5-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/HB6y69HbgAEtUW5-768x432.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/HB6y69HbgAEtUW5-696x392.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/HB6y69HbgAEtUW5-1068x601.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/HB6y69HbgAEtUW5-747x420.jpg 747w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/HB6y69HbgAEtUW5.jpg 1536w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure></div>

<p>For a while now, Samsung has been trailing behind a few Chinese brands that have already moved to Si-C cells. The advantage is higher energy density, meaning you can fit more capacity without making the phone thicker. In comparison, the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2026/04/18/galaxy-s26-series-gets-up-to-%E2%82%B919000-price-cut-in-india/">Galaxy S26 Ultra</a> is still stuck with a 5,000mAh battery.</p>

<p>New details, reportedly from Samsung SDI documents shared via the Schrodingerintel blog, give a clearer picture of what’s being tested internally. The company has apparently been experimenting with silicon-carbon batteries ranging from 12,000mAh all the way up to 20,000mAh.</p>

<p>One of the more interesting configurations mentioned is a dual-cell setup labeled SDI-DC12K-SiC-V2. It combines a 6,800mAh cell (around 4.7mm thick) with a 5,200mAh cell (about 3.2mm). The 6,800mAh cell or a similar version of it could realistically fit inside the Galaxy S27 Ultra without going overboard on thickness.</p>

<p>The bigger issue, though, seems to be longevity. The 20,000mAh setup <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2026/01/01/samsung-20000mah-silicon-carbon-smartphone-battery-testing/">reportedly managed</a> around 960 charge cycles before failing. That’s quite a bit short of the ~1,500 cycles expected for commercial use. And that gap likely explains why we didn’t see this tech make it into the S26 series.</p>

<p>From what’s being said, Samsung engineers are now working on improving things like separator materials, stacking techniques, and battery management to get those numbers up to a usable level.</p>

<p>Interestingly, Samsung has already <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2026/02/26/samsung-preparing-a-phone-with-silicon-carbon-battery-finally-joining-rivals/">admitted</a> it’s behind in battery tech. That alone kind of hints that a shift is coming sooner rather than later. If the South Korean giant manages to sort out the durability issues in time, the S27 Ultra could end up being a pretty big moment for Galaxy fans.</p>

<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/category/samsung/">Samsung</a> could be preparing a pretty big storage upgrade for its future flagships. The Galaxy S27 Ultra is now being tipped as the first smartphone to ship with UFS 5.0 storage, which, if true, would be a noticeable step forward in raw speed.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="900" height="506" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/Samsung-Galaxy-S26-Ultra-Render-1.jpg?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-734983" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/Samsung-Galaxy-S26-Ultra-Render-1.jpg 900w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/Samsung-Galaxy-S26-Ultra-Render-1-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/Samsung-Galaxy-S26-Ultra-Render-1-768x432.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/Samsung-Galaxy-S26-Ultra-Render-1-696x391.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/Samsung-Galaxy-S26-Ultra-Render-1-747x420.jpg 747w" sizes="(max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px" /></figure></div>

<p>The info comes from tipster yeux1122. According to the leak, Samsung is planning to bring UFS 5.0 to at least some models in the Galaxy S27 lineup.</p>

<p>In terms of numbers, UFS 5.0 is said to offer interface speeds of up to 10.8 GB/s. That’s a big jump from what we have right now, and starts getting closer to PCIe Gen 5 NVMe SSD territory, at least on paper. For phones, this could translate to noticeably faster app launches, quicker file transfers, and smoother handling of heavier workloads, especially anything AI-related.</p>

<p>For comparison, the current <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2026/02/25/samsung-galaxy-s26-and-s26-plus-launched-specs-price/">Galaxy S26 series</a> sticks with UFS 4.1. While the peak speeds are similar to UFS 4.0, Samsung has been improving things in other ways, like adding WriteBooster and tweaking how storage is managed. The company claims those changes already bring noticeable gains in things like file copying and app installs.</p>

<p>With UFS 5.0 though, the jump looks more straightforward. It essentially doubles the theoretical bandwidth, which could matter more as phones start doing more on-device AI processing. Tasks like running generative AI models or handling large media files are only getting heavier, so faster storage can actually make a difference there.</p>

<p>Interestingly, Samsung wasn’t originally expected to move to UFS 5.0 this soon. Earlier timelines pointed to around 2027 or later, with more focus on refining UFS 4.x in the meantime. But with the current push around AI-focused smartphones, it seems plans may have shifted a bit.</p>

<p>The timing does line up in one way. JEDEC finalized the UFS 5.0 standard earlier this year, and memory manufacturers are already working on bringing it to market. So the hardware side of things is starting to fall into place.</p>

<p>If Samsung does manage to pull this off, the S27 Ultra could end up being one of the first devices to really push storage performance forward again. And with how quickly on-device AI processing is evolving, that kind of upgrade might end up being more important than it sounds right now.</p>

<p>If recent leaks are anything to go by, the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2026/03/24/galaxy-s27-ultra-could-skip-aes-based-s-pen-upgrade-after-all-which-is-disappointing/">Galaxy S27 Ultra</a> could end up being one of the first phones to adopt a new generation of memory, which might bring some noticeable gains.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="659" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/Galaxy-S26-Ultra-2-1024x659.png?x44794" alt="Galaxy-S26-Ultra" class="wp-image-728490" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/Galaxy-S26-Ultra-2-1024x659.png 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/Galaxy-S26-Ultra-2-300x193.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/Galaxy-S26-Ultra-2-768x494.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/Galaxy-S26-Ultra-2-696x448.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/Galaxy-S26-Ultra-2-1068x687.png 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/Galaxy-S26-Ultra-2-653x420.png 653w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/Galaxy-S26-Ultra-2.png 1099w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure></div>

<p>According to a fresh leak, the device is expected to feature LPDDR6 RAM, likely paired with <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/qualcomm/">Qualcomm</a>’s upcoming <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2026/03/25/snapdragon-8-elite-gen-6-8-elite-gen-6-pro-specs-leak/">Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro</a>. That would make it one of the earliest Android phones to move beyond LPDDR5X, which is still what most current flagships rely on.</p>

<p>On paper, LPDDR6 is a fairly big step forward. It’s said to offer higher bandwidth and improved efficiency, partly due to changes in how memory channels are structured. In everyday use, that could mean smoother multitasking, quicker app loading, and better performance in heavier workloads like gaming or on-device AI tasks. Whether the difference feels dramatic is another question, but it should at least be measurable.</p>

<p>The chipset itself is also shaping up to be a notable upgrade. Qualcomm is reportedly working on two versions this time: the standard Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 and a more powerful Pro variant. The latter is expected to include a &#8220;superior&#8221; Adreno 850 GPU with 18MB GMEM, while the standard model will likely use an Adreno 845 GPU with 12MB GMEM. Both chips are said to use a 2+3+3 CPU layout and could be built on TSMC’s 2nm process, which should help with efficiency.</p>

<p>As for Samsung’s own chips, development is ongoing with the Exynos 2700 and Exynos 2800. Still, early reports suggest the Ultra model will stick with Qualcomm, at least in most markets.</p>

<p>Of course, there’s a trade-off here. Moving to newer memory standards and a more advanced chipset usually means higher costs. With DRAM and storage prices already trending upward, it wouldn’t be surprising if the Galaxy S27 Ultra ends up being more expensive than the current generation.</p>

<p>It’s still early, and a lot can change before launch, but if these details hold, the S27 Ultra could be one of the first Android phones to really push next-gen hardware across the board.</p>

<p>According to Korean outlet ETNews, Samsung had been testing a completely new S Pen technology for the S27 Ultra. However, the company has decided to hold it back for now. That means the phone is likely to stick with the same Electromagnetic Resonance (EMR) system it has used for years.</p>

<p>For context, EMR is what allows the S Pen to work without a battery. The phone’s display includes a dedicated digitizer layer that tracks the pen with impressive precision. However, this system relies on a magnetic field, which can be affected by built-in magnets <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2025/02/13/samsung-galaxy-s25-ultra-s-pen-interference-with-magnetic-accessories/">or even magnetic accessories</a>.</p>

<p>The alternative, Active Electrostatic (AES), takes a different approach. It removes the digitizer layer and instead relies on a battery-powered stylus interacting directly with the touchscreen, a method also used by Apple Pencil. Since AES doesn’t rely on magnetism for tracking, strong alignment magnets inside the phone should not significantly affect its performance.</p>

<p>This could finally allow Samsung to build magnets directly into the phone without interfering with S Pen functionality, something older Galaxy S flagships have struggled with when used alongside magnetic cases.</p>

<p>Interestingly, Samsung was reportedly working on a hybrid solution that aimed to combine both approaches. The idea was to remove the digitizer layer while still keeping the pen battery-free.</p>

<p>For now, it looks like Samsung is playing it safe. The S27 Ultra may not bring a big S Pen overhaul, but a more meaningful upgrade is clearly in the works, just not ready yet.</p>

<p>It looks like <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/category/samsung/">Samsung</a> might be revisiting one of its more interesting camera experiments from the past. A new report out of Korea suggests the company is exploring the return of variable aperture on future Galaxy smartphones, possibly starting with the Galaxy S27 series.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="682" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/Variable-aperture-1024x682.jpg?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-711311" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/Variable-aperture-1024x682.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/Variable-aperture-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/Variable-aperture-768x512.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/Variable-aperture-696x464.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/Variable-aperture-1068x711.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/Variable-aperture-630x420.jpg 630w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/Variable-aperture.jpg 1420w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure></div>

<p>According to Korean publication ET News, Samsung&#8217;s mobile division has asked Samsung Electro-Mechanics and MCNEX to begin developing smartphone-ready variable aperture systems. Industry sources quoted in the report describe Samsung as “strongly committed” to bringing the feature back, which suggests this isn’t just early-stage experimentation.</p>

<h2>A feature Samsung already tried back in 2018</h2>

<p>Variable aperture isn’t new for Samsung. The company introduced a dual-aperture system on the Samsung Galaxy S9, allowing the camera to switch between f/1.5 and f/2.4. It carried over to the Samsung Galaxy S10 before quietly disappearing with the Galaxy S20 lineup.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="800" height="420" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/dualaperture-800x420-1.jpg?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-726475" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/dualaperture-800x420-1.jpg 800w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/dualaperture-800x420-1-300x158.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/dualaperture-800x420-1-768x403.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/dualaperture-800x420-1-696x365.jpg 696w" sizes="(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px" /><figcaption>Galaxy S9 variable aperture system</figcaption></figure></div>

<p>For those unfamiliar, variable aperture allows the camera lens to physically adjust how much light enters the sensor.</p>

<ul><li>A wider aperture (lower f-number) helps in low light and creates stronger background blur.</li><li>A narrower aperture improves sharpness and depth of field in bright conditions.</li></ul>

<p>On Galaxy smartphones, most improvements over the last few years have come from processing algorithms rather than mechanical lens adjustments. Bringing back real optical control could give Samsung another tool to improve image quality, especially in challenging lighting.</p>

<p>Earlier rumors had <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2025/03/15/the-galaxy-s26-ultra-could-bring-back-variable-aperture/">suggested</a> the feature might return with the Galaxy S26 series, but that now seems unlikely. The focus appears to have shifted to the Galaxy S27 lineup, which would likely arrive in early 2027 if Samsung sticks to its usual schedule. The feature would likely roll out exclusively on the Galaxy S27 Ultra to differentiate it from the rest of the lineup.</p>

<p>Interestingly, this development comes alongside <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2025/11/07/new-iphone-18-pro-leak-backs-up-earlier-reports-on-variable-aperture-transparent-back/">separate rumors</a> that Apple may introduce variable aperture on the iPhone 18 series, potentially in 2026 and possibly limited to Pro models.</p>

<p>If Samsung manages to refine the technology and keep the module slim, variable aperture could make a meaningful comeback in flagship smartphones. And for mobile photography enthusiasts, that’s at least something to keep an eye on.<br><br></p>

<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/category/samsung/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Samsung</a>’s Galaxy S Ultra series has long been the poster child for Android flagships, packing cutting edge hardware, top tier cameras, and the best of the brand&#8217;s software features. While we are still waiting on the Galaxy S26 series, many rumors and leaks have already revealed a bunch of details for the latest flagships. </p>

<p>These reports have revealed that the Galaxy S26 Ultra and the others are likely getting minor updates over their predecessors. However, 2027&#8217;s Galaxy S27 Ultra could be shaping up to be a true upgrade after years of minor changes. So could this be Samsung&#8217;s breakthrough flagship? Read on to see everything we know about this premium phone.</p>

<h3>New Biometric: Polar ID Face Unlock</h3>

<p>One of the most intriguing Galaxy S27 Ultra rumors centers on a new biometric system dubbed Polar ID. Leaks suggest Samsung is exploring a wild new face unlock tech that could pair with its existing in-display fingerprint scanner. The idea seems to be improving security and convenience with a more robust facial authentication mechanism, potentially making biometrics faster and more secure than ever before. </p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="576" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/Galaxy-S26-Ultra-1024x576.webp?x44794" alt="Galaxy-S26-Ultra" class="wp-image-713517" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/Galaxy-S26-Ultra-1024x576.webp 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/Galaxy-S26-Ultra-300x169.webp 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/Galaxy-S26-Ultra-768x432.webp 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/Galaxy-S26-Ultra-696x392.webp 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/Galaxy-S26-Ultra-1068x601.webp 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/Galaxy-S26-Ultra-747x420.webp 747w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/Galaxy-S26-Ultra.webp 1200w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure></div>

<p>If done well, this could finally be a true rival to Apple&#8217;s Face ID technology. It should also help Samsung stand out from the rest of the premium Androids, offering secure face unlock without needing external sensors or gimmicks. However, like all early biometric rumors, the real test will be in its reliability and privacy safeguards.</p>

<h3>Conflicting Camera Leaks</h3>

<p>Camera performance has always been a focal point for Ultra models, and the S27 Ultra is no exception. Early reports hinted that Samsung might upgrade to a 200MP main camera, prompting excitement among enthusiasts. Larger sensors translate to better detail and low-light performance, but the high megapixel count doesn&#8217;t always mean better image quality.</p>

<p>Recent rumors have hinted at Samsung planning on upgrading the sensors for the primary shooter, ultra wide angle lens, and the selfie camera. But unfortunately, the telephoto setup could remain the same. Still, this would be a notable change as Samsung has relied on its 200MP ISOCELL HP2 camera sensor since the Galaxy S23 Ultra. </p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="910" height="508" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/Screenshot-2025-12-31-150353.png?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-721647" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/Screenshot-2025-12-31-150353.png 910w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/Screenshot-2025-12-31-150353-300x167.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/Screenshot-2025-12-31-150353-768x429.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/Screenshot-2025-12-31-150353-696x389.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/Screenshot-2025-12-31-150353-752x420.png 752w" sizes="(max-width: 910px) 100vw, 910px" /></figure></div>

<p>So while photography as a whole could get an upgrade, some areas, like periscope zoom, might disappoint. Some analysts believe that the larger sensor would offer various improvements that will help the device match other flagships. Many were expecting that Samsung could match other Ultra models with a large 1-inch sensor, but this still seems highly unlikely. Some rumors point to a new Samsung ISOCELL 1/1.3-inch sensor, while others claim that the brand is using a <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2025/07/27/samsung-galaxy-s27-ultra-200mp-camera-upgrade/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Sony 1/1.1-inch sensor</a>. </p>

<h3>Back to Exynos?</h3>

<p>Reports from South Korea have revealed that Samsung is expected to get a big rise in 2nm yield by the end of this year. Typically, the Galaxy Ultra models featured the top Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 series chip, but the improved yield might help the brand adopt its proprietary Exynos processors. To recall, the upcoming Galaxy S26 Ultra will likely launch with a custom overclocked Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5. </p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="640" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/Exynos-2800.jpg?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-721814" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/Exynos-2800.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/Exynos-2800-300x188.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/Exynos-2800-768x480.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/Exynos-2800-696x435.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/Exynos-2800-672x420.jpg 672w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /><figcaption>Samsung Exynos 2800 (Rumored)</figcaption></figure></div>

<p>But the S27 Ultra may move to a 2nm based Exynos chipset. A leak from earlier this month states that this chip could be dubbed the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2026/01/12/samsung-exynos-2700-leak-reveals-major-upgrades/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Exynos 2700</a> and will offer improved thermal design, performance, and energy efficiency. In the past, the Exynos variants of Samsung&#8217;s flagships trailed behind the Snapdragon versions. Samsung seems to be addressing this with the next-gen Exynos, which can reportedly achieve an impressive Geekbench 6 scores of 4,800 in single-core and 15,000 in multi-core tests.</p>

<p>Samsung hasn’t even rolled out the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2025/12/31/galaxy-s26-and-s26-ultra-detailed-dummies-offer-an-early-look-at-2026-flagships/">Galaxy S26 series</a> yet, but leaks about the next generation are already starting to surface.</p>

<p>According to Ice Universe, the Galaxy S27 Ultra, expected in early 2027, may finally see meaningful changes to its camera hardware. The claim is that Samsung is planning new sensors for the main camera, ultra-wide lens, and selfie camera. The telephoto setup, however, is said to stay the same.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="910" height="508" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/Screenshot-2025-12-31-150353.png?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-721647" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/Screenshot-2025-12-31-150353.png 910w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/Screenshot-2025-12-31-150353-300x167.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/Screenshot-2025-12-31-150353-768x429.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/Screenshot-2025-12-31-150353-696x389.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/Screenshot-2025-12-31-150353-752x420.png 752w" sizes="(max-width: 910px) 100vw, 910px" /></figure>

<p>That would be a notable shift. Samsung has leaned on largely unchanged camera hardware <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/02/01/samsung-launches-galaxy-s23-ultra-price-specifications/">since the Galaxy S23 Ultra</a>, keeping the same 200MP ISOCELL HP2 main sensor across multiple generations. Recent models have focused more on tuning and software tweaks, with only minor hardware updates. The Galaxy S25 Ultra, for instance, replaced the 12MP (1/2.55&#8243;) ultra-wide with a 1/2.52&#8243; 50MP sensor.</p>

<p>As a result, the Ultra lineup has been outperformed by Chinese flagships <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2025/10/23/vivo-x300-pro-beats-galaxy-s25-ultra-in-side-by-side-camera-test/">such as Vivo’s X300 Pro</a>, and has gradually lost much of its reputation as a top-tier imaging device against Chinese rivals. A broader refresh could help address areas like low-light performance and front-camera quality, where Samsung’s gains have been incremental at best.</p>

<p>That said, this is still early information. The S27 Ultra is well over a year away, and Samsung’s plans can change. Earlier reports about the S27 series have been inconsistent, with some suggesting cost concerns could limit major upgrades. Ice Universe has a strong track record, but nothing is confirmed yet.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="564" height="253" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/Screenshot-2026-01-05-225605.png?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-722256" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/Screenshot-2026-01-05-225605.png 564w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/Screenshot-2026-01-05-225605-300x135.png 300w" sizes="(max-width: 564px) 100vw, 564px" /></figure></div>

<p>With the Galaxy S26 series expected to bring mostly modest changes, Samsung may be lining up its bigger camera updates for 2027. If so, the S27 Ultra could end up being a more meaningful step forward than recent models. For now, it’s just a leak—but one worth keeping an eye on.</p>

<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/category/samsung/">Samsung</a> fans hoping for a big camera upgrade in 2027 might want to lower their expectations a bit.</p>

<p>There’s been plenty of speculation that the Galaxy S27 Ultra would finally move past the familiar 1/1.3&#8243; 200-megapixel sensor Samsung has been using since the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/samsung-galaxy-s23-ultra/">S23 Ultra</a>. The most exciting rumor pointed to <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2025/11/27/sony-lyt-901-launched/">Sony’s new LYT-901</a> — a 1/1.12-inch 200 MP sensor unveiled recently and already being hyped as the next big thing in Android photography.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="768" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/Galaxy-S25-Ultra-cameras-1024x768.jpg?x44794" alt="Galaxy S25 Ultra" class="wp-image-694568" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/Galaxy-S25-Ultra-cameras-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/Galaxy-S25-Ultra-cameras-300x225.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/Galaxy-S25-Ultra-cameras-768x576.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/Galaxy-S25-Ultra-cameras-1536x1152.jpg 1536w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/Galaxy-S25-Ultra-cameras-2048x1536.jpg 2048w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/Galaxy-S25-Ultra-cameras-696x522.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/Galaxy-S25-Ultra-cameras-1068x801.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/Galaxy-S25-Ultra-cameras-1920x1440.jpg 1920w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/Galaxy-S25-Ultra-cameras-560x420.jpg 560w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/Galaxy-S25-Ultra-cameras-80x60.jpg 80w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/Galaxy-S25-Ultra-cameras-265x198.jpg 265w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /><figcaption>Galaxy S25 Ultra</figcaption></figure>

<p>But according to well-known tipster Ice Universe, Samsung isn’t planning to use it. While that may sound obvious considering Samsung makes its own sensors, his prediction that the S27 Ultra’s sensor size will remain unchanged does seem reasonable. In fact, Samsung has steadily been shrinking its 200MP sensor generation after generation since the very first one. In other words, it’s highly unlikely we’ll see a near-1-inch (or even slightly larger) 200MP ISOCELL sensor anytime soon.</p>

<ul><li>ISOCELL HP1: 1/1.22&#8243;</li><li>ISOCELL HP2: 1/1.3&#8243;</li><li>ISOCELL HP3: 1/1.4&#8243;</li><li>ISOCELL HPX / HP9: 1/1.4&#8243;</li></ul>

<p>And for those wondering why it matters, a smaller sensor with smaller pixels produces less accurate signals, which generally results in relatively poorer image quality. This aligns with what we’ve seen in <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2025/10/23/vivo-x300-pro-beats-galaxy-s25-ultra-in-side-by-side-camera-test/">camera comparison</a> tests between the Galaxy S25 Ultra and its Chinese counterparts such as the vivo X300 Pro.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper">
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-width="550" data-dnt="true"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Good News:<br>Sony has officially launched its new 200MP sensor LYTIA 901 featuring a 1/1.12&quot; large format, 0.7 µm pixels, the Quad-Quad Bayer Coding (QQBC) array, and flagship-grade technologies such as DCG-HDR, Fine 12-bit ADC, and HF-HDR. At the same time, OmniVision has… <a href="https://t.co/zD41tTqy9R">pic.twitter.com/zD41tTqy9R</a></p>&mdash; PhoneArt (@UniverseIce) <a href="https://twitter.com/UniverseIce/status/1993928597380481458?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">November 27, 2025</a></blockquote><script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
</div></figure>

<p>Samsung’s top-tier phone in 2027 could once again rely on a slightly &#8220;updated&#8221; version of the 1/1.3-inch ISOCELL sensor we’ve seen for several years now.</p>

<p>Over the past few generations, the company has leaned heavily on software processing to squeeze improvements out of largely unchanged camera hardware. Meanwhile, rivals have been pushing ahead with bigger sensors, and many of the phones, such as the Oppo Find X9 Pro (<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2025/10/29/oppo-find-x9-pro-review-flawed-but-still-the-best-overall/">our review</a>) and vivo X300 Pro, are nicely tuned for those sensors as well.</p>

<p>For now, the latest leak suggests the next few Ultra phones won’t be the generational camera jump many are hoping for — even when the rest of the industry keeps moving forward.</p>

<p>A new leak suggests <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/category/samsung/">Samsung</a> might be working on a major overhaul of face unlock for the Galaxy S27 Ultra. The system, apparently called Polar ID v1.0, could be Samsung’s most ambitious attempt yet to challenge — and possibly surpass — Apple’s Face ID.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="576" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/Galaxy-S25-Ultra-live-island-1024x576.png?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-679938" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/Galaxy-S25-Ultra-live-island-1024x576.png 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/Galaxy-S25-Ultra-live-island-300x169.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/Galaxy-S25-Ultra-live-island-768x432.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/Galaxy-S25-Ultra-live-island-1536x864.png 1536w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/Galaxy-S25-Ultra-live-island-2048x1152.png 2048w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/Galaxy-S25-Ultra-live-island-696x392.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/Galaxy-S25-Ultra-live-island-1068x601.png 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/Galaxy-S25-Ultra-live-island-1920x1080.png 1920w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/Galaxy-S25-Ultra-live-island-747x420.png 747w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p>The claim comes from leaker @SPYGO19726, who says they spotted references to Polar ID in early S27 Ultra firmware. According to their post, Samsung isn’t relying on the typical front-facing camera approach anymore. Instead, the company is testing a dedicated hardware for the purpose that emits some kind of near-infrared polarized light and possibly reads the polarization pattern of the user&#8217;s face. In simple terms, it’s like giving your face a light-based fingerprint that photos, videos, masks, or 3D prints supposedly can’t mimic.</p>

<p>If the leak is accurate, the hardware behind this includes an ISOCELL Vizion sensor and a new &#8220;BIO-Fusion Core&#8221; security module. Samsung is apparently targeting an unlock time of around 180 ms with support for almost any lighting condition — pitch black, bright sun, even indoors with sunglasses on. Masks aren’t supposed to trip it up either.</p>

<p>That’s a pretty big contrast with what’s currently out there. Apple&#8217;s Face ID (that projects dots of infrared light on the user&#8217;s face) is still extremely secure. The front camera-based face unlock on most Android phones is fast, but still doesn’t count as “secure” for payments.</p>

<p>If Samsung&#8217;s “Polar ID” solution actually ships, the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2025/07/27/samsung-galaxy-s27-ultra-200mp-camera-upgrade/">S27 Ultra</a> could end up being one of the most reliable face authentication systems on any Android phone.</p>

<p>Of course, there’s the usual disclaimer: this leak comes from the same source that’s had a few misses before, including that odd Exynos benchmark. And Polar ID was rumored for both the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2025/01/23/galaxy-s25-ultra-launched-heres-what-sets-it-apart-from-the-s24-ultra/">S25 Ultra</a> and <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2025/11/06/galaxy-s26-ultra-may-disappoint-fans-hoping-for-camera-upgrades/">S26 Ultra</a> before disappearing. So take all of this with the usual grain of salt — 2027 is still far off, and test firmware often includes experimental features that never ship.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="945" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/WhatsApp-Image-2024-12-26-at-3.01.48-PM-1024x945.jpg?x44794" alt="Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra S Pen" class="wp-image-666166" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/WhatsApp-Image-2024-12-26-at-3.01.48-PM-1024x945.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/WhatsApp-Image-2024-12-26-at-3.01.48-PM-300x277.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/WhatsApp-Image-2024-12-26-at-3.01.48-PM-768x709.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/WhatsApp-Image-2024-12-26-at-3.01.48-PM-696x642.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/WhatsApp-Image-2024-12-26-at-3.01.48-PM-1068x985.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/WhatsApp-Image-2024-12-26-at-3.01.48-PM-455x420.jpg 455w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/WhatsApp-Image-2024-12-26-at-3.01.48-PM.jpg 1280w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p>The claim comes from Chinese leaker Setsuna Digital. The post suggests Samsung is weighing the removal of the integrated stylus slot in favor of other design priorities—possibly larger batteries or improved cooling. If true, the Galaxy S27 Ultra could either drop the stylus entirely or follow the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/01/14/samsung-galaxy-s21-ultra-launched-as-the-first-s-series-phone-with-s-pen-support/">Galaxy S21 Ultra’s route</a>, which supported the S Pen but required an external case for storage.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="632" height="389" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/Screenshot-2025-06-22-224258.png?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-693591" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/Screenshot-2025-06-22-224258.png 632w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/Screenshot-2025-06-22-224258-300x185.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/Screenshot-2025-06-22-224258-356x220.png 356w" sizes="(max-width: 632px) 100vw, 632px" /></figure></div>

<p>This <a href="https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&amp;rct=j&amp;q=&amp;esrc=s&amp;source=web&amp;cd=&amp;ved=2ahUKEwjrj529woWOAxVg4zgGHSFiFeAQFnoECB0QAQ&amp;url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.gizmochina.com%2F2025%2F04%2F05%2Ffuture-galaxy-s-ultra-phones-could-ditch-the-s-pen-slot-internal-space-or-separate-price-tag%2F&amp;usg=AOvVaw3M4b6LS7Raobn9--Pl1xEx&amp;opi=89978449">isn&#8217;t the first sign</a> of Samsung pulling back on its stylus strategy. Reports from tipster <em><a href="https://x.com/PandaFlashPro/status/1936705460775580071">@PandaFlashPro</a></em> also point to internal constraints that might push the company to reallocate space inside the device. In fact, the Galaxy S25 Ultra shipped with a downgraded S Pen that lacks features like Bluetooth Air Actions, while the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold7 is also rumored to drop some S Pen functions to help achieve a slimmer design.</p>

<p>It’s becoming increasingly clear that Samsung is refocusing its S Pen efforts on tablets, rather than smartphones. With the Galaxy S26 Ultra still expected to feature the built-in stylus, the S27 Ultra could mark a turning point if the rumor proves accurate.</p>

<p>While some may welcome the trade-off if it means better battery life or improved performance, others may see it as the end of an era for the once Note-inspired Ultra series. As always, plans could still change before launch—but if Samsung does move forward without the S Pen, it’ll be one of the most notable design shifts in the Galaxy Ultra line’s history.</p>
