DJI has officially launched the Osmo Mobile 8P globally, and this time, the biggest upgrade is the new detachable remote. Announced on May 7, the Osmo Mobile 8P builds on the previous model with better tracking and a few smarter shooting tools, but the main focus is clearly giving solo creators more control when filming themselves.

The new remote, called Osmo FrameTap, comes bundled with every version of the gimbal. It’s a small magnetic touchscreen controller weighing around 29g, and it connects over Bluetooth with a range of up to 10 meters.

What makes it interesting is that it can display a live preview from the connected phone, letting users adjust framing remotely instead of constantly walking back to check shots. You can switch tracking subjects, control zoom and gimbal movement through an on-screen joystick, and even tweak fill light settings directly from the remote.

For Android users, DJI is also supporting direct phone screen mirroring on the controller itself. In practical terms, it means creators can use the rear camera for selfies or position the phone farther away while still keeping control of the shot. That kind of setup usually requires much more expensive gear, so it’s a fairly useful addition for vloggers and solo shooting.

Outside of the new remote features, the Osmo Mobile 8P keeps most of the things people already expect from DJI’s smartphone gimbals. You still get 3-axis stabilization, a built-in extension rod, foldable tripod, and up to 10 hours of battery life under certain conditions.

The DJI Mimo app also adds a few extra shooting modes like DynamicZoom, Slow Shutter, and Action Shot, alongside 360-degree spin support for more stylized clips.

Pricing and availability

Pricing starts at €159 for the standard bundle, while higher-end kits with the Multifunctional Module 2 and microphone accessories go up to €219. One thing worth noting is that, similar to the previous generation, the Osmo Mobile 8P isn’t launching in the US.

DJI also appears to be refining the user experience. The RS 5 is said to include a new Z-axis indicator, a small but potentially useful addition that could make balancing faster and less fiddly. Despite the internal changes, the gimbal is still rated for a 3 kg payload, keeping it compatible with a wide range of camera mirrorless and cinema camera setups. It’s marketed as a slightly stripped-down version of the Crane 4, removing a few features but keeping the essentials intact. With my lightweight Sony ZV-E10 setup, this gimbal seemed like an ideal match. After putting it through its paces, I can say it delivers solid value, but it’s not without its quirks.

During testing, I used it with my Sony ZV-E10 paired with the lightweight 16-50mm kit lens (116 grams), the 50mm lens (186 grams), and even the much bulkier Sony 55-210mm lens (345 grams), and it handled them all with ease.

The gimbal delivered smooth, jitter-free footage across all these configurations. With the 55-210mm lens attached, I made use of the lens support accessory included in the package. This small addition played a crucial role in stabilizing the heavier lens and ensuring proper balance during operation. The fact that the Crane 4E can manage such varied setups highlights the strength of its motors and overall engineering.

When filming moving subjects, the gimbal’s responsiveness is impressive. The Crane 4E reacts quickly to directional changes, ensuring that the camera remains focused on the subject without lag or overcorrection. This is particularly noticeable when using modes like Pan Follow or POV, where smooth transitions are critical.

During a test shoot at a park, I followed a moving cyclist, and the gimbal performed remarkably well, even when I had to make rapid adjustments to keep the subject in the frame. The precision of the motors and their ability to compensate for sudden movements was evident in the resulting footage, which was stable and professional-looking.

The gimbal’s stabilization capabilities also shine in handheld shots where walking or climbing stairs is involved. Even in these challenging situations, the Crane 4E effectively smooths out vibrations and jerks. This was particularly useful during a test shoot in an uneven, outdoor environment where I had to move over rocky terrain. Despite the natural shakiness of walking on such surfaces, the footage came out fluid and steady, eliminating the need for additional post-production stabilization.

Another area where the Crane 4E excels is in creative shooting scenarios. For instance, Vortex mode, which allows the camera to perform barrel rolls, adds a dynamic and cinematic element to footage. While using this mode during a low-light shoot indoors, the gimbal maintained precision and control. However, I did notice that prolonged use of this mode can become physically demanding without accessories like a wrist rest or sling grip, particularly if you’re using a weighty camera setup.

In controlled, static environments like indoor shoots or interviews, the Crane 4E offers a stable foundation for capturing consistent, well-framed shots. During one such session, I tested its Lock Mode to keep the camera firmly fixed on a subject. The results were impressive, with no unwanted drift or movement, showcasing the gimbal’s reliability for professional or semi-professional settings such as corporate videos or sit-down interviews. Additionally, the Crane 4E’s motors operate quietly, making it an excellent choice for scenarios where audio recording is critical, as it minimizes interference with sound quality.

Battery Life and Charging

The Cinepeer Crane 4E offers a reliable battery life of up to 12 hours, sufficient for most filming sessions. It supports PD fast charging, allowing a full recharge in approximately two hours via USB-C, minimizing downtime during shoots. The gimbal also functions as a power bank for your camera, extending its runtime via the included USB-C cable, which is helpful for longer projects.

The battery performs efficiently, adjusting power output based on the weight of the attached camera and lens. While heavier setups may reduce battery life slightly, it remains consistent throughout use.

Final Thoughts

The Zhiyun Cinepeer Crane 4E is a capable, budget-friendly gimbal that delivers strong performance for its price. While it lacks some premium features like a fill light or balance indicator lights, its ergonomic design, customizable controls, and excellent stabilization make it a solid choice for beginners and intermediate videographers. The gimbal handles lighter setups like my Sony ZV-E10 with ease but also has the motor strength to support heavier rigs when needed.

Its minor limitations, like the absence of a carrying case or screen lock, don’t detract much from its overall value. For those new to gimbals or looking for an affordable yet reliable stabilizer, the Crane 4E is worth considering. It has a slight learning curve, but once you get the hang of it, it becomes a dependable tool for creative filmmaking.

Hohem has been dedicated to making gimbals for filming devices for many years, and previously we have reviewed many of them, overall they are great for everyone, whether you are a professional photographer, or you are just a novice who wants to make better videos with your phone. And when AI started to help with a lot of the tech right now, the gimbal category evolved again. This time we have the newest Phone gimbal from Hohem, the iSteady V3, it has 3-axis stabilization, a Detachable remote control, and most importantly, a magnetic AI tracker to always keep the focus on you. It is only $129, it is a great price for what it can offer, and most likely it is better than others. In this review, we will use an iPhone and Android phone to test its performance of it, hopefully you can have more insights into it.

Unboxing

First of all, the packaging is nice, firmly packed everything inside, and the tape is very easy to be removed, leaving one less job for you to do. There are two colors to choose from, Black and White, either way it is still a good-looking device.

In the package, you have the device, charging cable, a tool, a pouch, and manuals. Fairly simple, but the pouch is a nice touch, since the device is very portable, if you tend to put it in your pocket with other stuff, then a pouch can separate them well. The whole unit weighs about 426g, still quite a manageable weight, and also it says a little about the device that it is built with a better material.

Design & Build

Once you hold it in hand, you can feel the weight and build quality of this device, but it is still a palm size. If we put these two colorways side by side, I would say the white one looks more aesthetically pleasing, as the white, orange and metallic blend better together. One thing to note here is that, the metal axis in the middle is colored differently, to match themselves up with these two colors.

Design-wise, this is a typical phone gimbal, shaped just like a shrank version of the professional camera gimbal, so you can do a lot of moves with perfect stabilization, while maintaining a pocketable size. Especially if you have a high-end phone with really good videography capability, and you want to utilize it to shoot very good videos, but one thing those phones can’t do is have good stabilization. So this is when a gimbal comes into play.

So other than the typical gimbal structural parts, there are two things that are very unique, which are the AI tracker and the removable remote control.

• The AI tracker can help with all the AI-enabled tracking feature, while you are using the phone’s built-in camera app. The tracker has two key parts, a camera and a fill light, they are the perfect combo for selfies. The unit attaches to the body by magnet and two little hooks, the pins help with the power and feature fulfillment, quite an innovative design.

• The remote control is another good design, it also connects to the gimbal through magnets and pins. When it’s on the gimbal, it serves as the control panel, and once it’s not on it, it connects to the gimbal by Bluetooth, that way you can do some filming from a distance. This little piece is very light and small, I wish it had a bit more weight or provided more grip, so if you hold it, it feels more secure.

Other parts are also made with thoughts and quality. Such as the rubber grip at the front, provides a good comfort for you to hold it tight. The axis in the middle is a solid piece of metal, supporting every move very well. The other metal part is the tripod feet, although they look thin, they are actually very strong. The phone holder on the top also has some rubber inside, so your phone will be scratched. If the shooting scene requires you to have extended range, then the built-in stick can do the job well.

One thing you should pay attention here, is since it takes a bit of effort to put the phone on the gimbal, it is recommended to turn on the device after putting the phone on the gimbal, or if you grab the upper part to do it, the bottom part will be spinning, and if you have the tripod out already, you may get hit by it.

Experience

AI tracking

Let’s get into the AI tracking feature first. In normal-use scenarios like tracking casual movements of a person or some objects, it can pretty much do the job really well. In tracking a person’s move, once it’s locked in the mode, it will never lose focus, even if you go at a distance, it will always be in focus; if you hide behind something and then pop out, it will still regain the focus instantly. We also tested its capability in a sports situation, once you turn the tracking speed to high, it can keep up with the paces really well.

During the time trying out the tracking feature. Here are some insights we’d like to share:

• The gesture control can only be activated at a certain distance, it claims 1.64-4.92ft(50-150cm), which means you can not be too close to the camera, or too far from the gimbal camera. In the real test, the minimal distance is just like it says, but the longest distance we tested was about 10ft (300cm), this is a performance beyond our expectations. We also tried to cover the camera on the phone to see if the gimbal have utilized that one to do the job, but it turned out that it does not, which means it is the camera on the gimbal doing an excellent job.

• To activate the tracking feature, you should put your hand just next to your face, and your face should be in the frame, if these requirements are not met, then it can not be activated

• If you want to track some objects, or an animal, you need to manually select it in the frame to be able to do that, whether on your rear camera or front camera.

• The tracking works well on both iPhone and Android phones.  

Stabilization

The stabilization algorithm of Hohem has been evolving, and it’s the 8th gen now, I must say it is working really well, not just in the user experience, but also in the speed and accuracy. There are several modes to choose from, to support very slow movements, or really quick movements like some sports scenes. When it’s moving, it does not wobble or anything, even with the heavy iPhone 15 Pro Max on it. So you can really trust the performance out of it.

Fill Light

The other feature built into this tracker unit is the fill light. You can turn it on or off by long pressing the wheel at the side, then double press to change the color temperature, and scroll the wheel to get the right brightness. Once the remote control is detached from the body, you can also use that to adjust the settings, but it seems that it can only change the color temperatures, but not the brightness. There are three color temperatures, you can choose between warm, medium, and cold, to adapt itself to different situations. This can be a really good tool to use for selfies.

Remote Control

Now let’s talk about the detachable remote control. When it is on the device, it is the control panel, but when it is detached from the device, it can work remotely. There are several buttons and a small screen on it. On the screen, you can confirm whether it is connected to the device or not by checking on the Bluetooth icon, and the icons below that one will tell you what mode it is in, then the battery indicator at the bottom. Just on the screen, there are two buttons for you to change the brightness of the fill light. On the right side, there is a joystick button for you to control the movements of the gimbal, and there is the pattern on it for better grip. Moving down, there is the Mode button and record button, they work seamlessly with the device, simply double press or click to toggle through different functions. There is also another button at the side to enable you to do some other stuff, you can read the manual to get to know more, along with some other controls of the remote. So overall, this remote is such a versatile tool, it makes a lot of shots available if you are shooting things alone, or you want some creative shots to be made.

Other Features

Some other features that worth mentioning about this gimbal.

• The tripod stands are quite useful when you are shooting videos from a distance, they blend into the tripod without you even noticing them, but they are really firm when the device is on an even table.

• The 1/4″-20 Screw mount and the extended stick can make more shots possible.

• It claims 13 hours of use when the gimbal is standing on the ground, and 4 hours with all the functions running. In our tests, we did not get to drain the battery though, but such battery life is good enough to support any shooting needs, and you can always charge the gimbal through the type-c port at the side.  

Verdict

So these are the features and our experience with the Hohem iSteady V3 Smartphone Gimbal, it is such a versatile tool to use, the AI tracker and remote control are the highlights of this device. You can do a lot of creative things with this device, if you are an individual filmmaker, or livestreamer, this can help you a lot. And if you are looking for your first smartphone gimbal, this is also the best choice.

DJI, the company known for its drones, already has a few smartphone gimbals in the market. Now, the brand is gearing up to launch a new model with a telescoping selfie stick built into its handle, reports WinFuture.

The upcoming smartphone gimbal from DJI, dubbed Osmo Mobile 5, will be a successor to last year’s Osmo Mobile 4. It is likely to get announced at a launch event on 8th September for a price of €159, which roughly translates to $188.

If the reports are to be believed, then the upcoming Osmo Mobile 5 folds down to around 17cm (6.7 inches) and can also be extended when you need to get closer to the subject. But don’t expect it to extend as much as a selfie stick but the distance should be enough for extra flexibility.

Unfortunately, the new feature seems to be taking a toll on the battery life as it will reportedly offer a battery life of 6 hours and 20 minutes, a massive decrease from 15 hours of battery life on the Osmo Mobile 4.

It is being reported that the battery can be fully recharged within around 1.5 hours. As for the design, the company seems to have retained a magnetic mounting system, making it easier to quickly attach and detach the smartphone from the gimbal.

Along with the new Osmo Mobile 5, DJI is also reportedly planning to launch a cheaper Osmo Mobile 4 SE which gets rid of the magnetic mounting system to lower the cost. It will reportedly cost $99, which is $50 cheaper than the price of the current model.

Zhiyun is well-known for making smartphone gimbals and now, at the CES 2021, the company has launched its new Crane-2S gimbal, aimed at videographers, and can handle some of the largest pro cameras.

The company says that the product has a load capacity high enough to carry premium DSLRs and mirrorless cameras such as Canon EOS 1DX Mark II, Nikon D850, and others. To keep the weight low, it has opted for carbon fiber material to keep the design strong.

The known camera giant Canon might be working on a new all in one gimbal and camera of its own, which could be similar to and rival the DJI Osmo Pro. A new patent has revealed the design of this gimbal, which slightly resembles the Osmo Pro that launched a few years prior.

Looking at the new patent, the new Canon gimbal appears to feature a large rear facing screen for viewing and two joysticks for controlling the gimbal. The patent also arrives with drawings of this, which also reveals the overall design of the product. A handle can be observed that houses the battery, a gimbal with two axes, a rear display, the controllers, and the camera sensor itself that has a mounting point for the lenses.

Notably, the camera sensor also has a hot show shoe on the top, which is likely to mount accessories on top of it. Furthermore, there also appear to be various pins in the sketches. This means that there will be certain accessories that draw power directly from the main battery of the gimbal or even share data. An example would be an external flash. What appears to be a toggle switch can also be observed, which might be for in camera stabilizations or to remove the lenses, as per a DroneDJ report.

The two axis gimbal design offers both pros and cons, as it can improve in stabilization by removing the need for a tilt axis to stabilize the gimbal. although, it would also eliminate the ability to take rolling shots as well. The Canon gimbal might be controlled through the two joysticks and the large touch screen. A larger button can also be seen, which is likely the shitter button for the camera. Unfortunately, this is just a patent and we have no way of knowing if Canon is actually working on this product. However, the company might be trying to expand its product lineup.

Drone-maker DJI has today officially launched two new gimbals — RS 2 and the RSC 2. It seems that the company has rebranded the Ronin series for shorter names. Both of them are three-axis gimbals and comes with noticeable upgrades.

The company claims that the devices are built using carbon fiber material, making them lightweight. The DJI RS2 weighs 1.3 kilograms and can support a dynamic payload of 4.5 kilograms, enough to carry DSLRs and lenses.

On the other hand, the DJI RSC 2 is made for portability as it weighs 1.2 kilograms and has a foldable body that makes it a better option to carry around in a bag. There’s a 1.4-inch touchscreen display that shows settings, camera data, and transmits a live feed of what is being recorded on the camera.

The devices come with support for Titan Stabilization Algorithm and a new vertical and low-angle Briefcase modes that allow content creators to record interest views and angles that would be difficult to do manually.

The gimbals also have support for SuperSmooth — a software enhancement that is designed for smoothing out movements when shooting with a tighter lens of up to 100mm focal length.

Feiyu Tech, one of the most famous gimbal manufacturers, will release their latest camera gimbal, called G6 Max 3-Axis Stabilized Handheld Camera Gimbal. We got the G6 Max and use it for a few days. Let’s take a look.

Design:

It seems that Feiyu Tech is passionate about releasing camera gimbal with light weight. The Feiyu G6 Max gimbal has 665g net weight and small size, and it is as big as the Feiyu G6 Plus gimbal. Although it has the light weight and small size, the G6 Max also has good metal construction, which makes it firm and stable.

The G6 Max is a 3-axis camera gimbal. From top to bottom, there are three axis position locks, which make important roles on balancing.

Coming in oval shape design, the touch of the handle is good. There are two pieces of silicone rubber embedded in the handle, which makes you have comfortable holding experience.

Take a look at the stick. On the front side, there is a display, a joystick, a shutter button and a function button. The display of G6 Max is bigger than G6 Plus. And the rotary which is beside them is the multifunction knob.

On the other side, you will notice the power button, camera mode button, Type-C port and trigger button.

It is a portable gimbal, and it can be perfectly fit in your bag. But it is hard to put the G6 Max gimbal into the pocket on your clothes.

Performance:

From my own experience, it is simple to balance the G6 Max. However, when turning on the gimbal after balancing, the G6 Max will vibrate occasionally.

The G6 Max has five modes, which are pan mode, follow mode, all follow mode, fast follow mode and selfie mode. It is easy to switch mode. All you need to do is tap the function button or trigger button. What’s more, the switching movement between these modes is smooth and stabilized.

Most of operations, like focusing and panning, can be finished by the buttons, joystick and knob. After updating, I think the knob can support more functions expect tilting, like zooming.

The G6 Max supports Bluetooth and Wi-Fi to directly operate the camera or smartphone, which provide more stable connection. Also, you can download the Feiyu ON App to control the gimbal and camera.

The Feiyu G6 Max does a good job on stability, which is above the average. It performs well when walking, while the frame will have a small vibration when running or other intensive movements. But the vibration can be accepted.

Although the net weight of G6 Max (665g) is heavier than the G6 Plus (663g), I think the G6 Max feels lighter than most of the camera gimbal selling on the market when you use it.

Battery:

The Feiyu G6 Max gimbal can last around 9 hours, which can support outdoor shooting for a long time. By the way, the G6 Max is fueled by built-in battery, which is more convenient than external battery.

Conclusion:

The Feiyu G6 Max is a portable and stable gimbal. I like its size, design, modes and smooth movements. If you want to record your life by video, I do recommend the Feiyu G6 Max camera gimbal to you.

The Feiyu G6 Plus Gimbal supports 5 shooting modes including a panning mode, a lock mode, a follow mode, selfie switch and an auto-rotation mode. The switch way for these modes is pretty easy: switch between the panning mode and the lock mode with single tap, double tap for the follow mode, triple tap for the selfie switch, quadruple tap for the auto-rotation mode.

Feiyu does a good job on stabilization, the gimbal shows the amazingly smooth and stabilized movements in all modes. I think that the panning mode is not easy to handle, but the Feiyu G6 Plus surprised me. The images and videos keep stabilized with the panning mode.

If you want to take a selfie vlog, the selfie switch is suitable for you. Just click the function button three times in a row, the camera will rotate 180 degree in horizontal. Double tap trigger button can reset to default position. The rotation is fast, smooth and stable that will not affect the quality of shooting.

Battery:

The Feiyu G6 Plus gimbal is fueled by 5000mAh battery, which can be charged by Micro USB port. And the battery can last around 9 to 12 hours. It definitely can support outdoor shooting for a long time.

By the way, the Feiyu brand has their application called Feiyu ON. You can switch the shooting mode, adjust the focus, control the camera direction and edit the images or videos and so on.

A few weeks ago, DJI announced the Osmo Mobile 3 – the third-generation model of its smartphone gimbal line. The new gimbal boasts some interesting features that have received praise from reviewers. However, it turns out that another gimbal released much earlier was the first to have these features. This gimbal is the Snoppa Atom.

The Snoppa Atom was released last year. It was originally crowdfunded on Indiegogo and the first batch began shipping in October 2018. The gimbal is made by Snoppa Technology, a Shenzhen-based company. So what are these features that the Osmo Mobile 3 copied from the atom? Let’s take a look at them below:

Folding Mechanism

The Snoppa Atom is the first portable gimbal with a foldable design. Prior to this, smartphone gimbals were not foldable and it didn’t make it easy to pack on a trip. However, Snoppa was able to design its product to be easily foldable. There is even a lock that prevents the arm from moving around when the arm is closed

One-key orientation switching

Some of the complaints from users for the older Osmo Mobile models was the inability to quickly switch between landscape to portrait orientation and vice versa. The device ships with all the stuff you need to start shooting videos. Some notable accessories include a high-quality selfie stick that is made out mostly of metal. Also, there are two sets of batteries, a charger, a really nice carrying pouch, video output and charging cables for GoPro cameras and the GoPro accessory adapter, so you can attach the gimbal to almost anything you want.

Zhiyun Rider-M Gimbal Review: DESIGN, FEATURES and FUNCTIONALITY

The first thing you are going to notice is the build quality. The gimbal is made entirely of metal and it doesn’t seem to break anytime soon.

We have some standard ports as the microUSB, GoPro charging and the video output port. The 1/4 screw mount allows you to attach the gimbal to all sorts of accessories. If you attach it to the tripod like I did, you will get some very smooth shoots.

What I love about the Zhiyun Rider-M is that it is very easy to use right off the bat.  All you have to do is to put your camera into the bracket, tighten up the screws, turn it on and you are good to go. We have just two control buttons. The power and the mode button.

The default mode is called the pan follow mode and I used it most of the time.

I have to tell you that the footage looks just stunning. I was simply walking normally and didn’t try to hold my hands steadily at all but the footage looks very smooth. Also, the gimbal is very responsive and even if you move it too quickly, you will still have smooth and slow panning or tilting motion. One mistake that I made was holding the selfie stick completely vertically. That’s why one of the axis of the gimbal was caught by the wide angle lens of my YI 4k camera in a few shots. If you don’t make this mistake, you will be able to shoot some awesome-looking videos.

If you press the mode button once, the gimbal will enter the locking mode, which is great for the smooth pan or tilt shots if you want to film a particular object. This mode works great with both landscape and product shots.

If you press the mode button twice, you will enter the pan and pitch following mode, where the gimbal moves towards the direction you point the camera to.  This mode works pretty well too. Even if you move the gimbal quickly, you will get a smooth shot since all the axes move slowly. The last mode is the selfie mode and it is triggered by pressing the mode button 3 times. A cool feature is that you can simply point the gimbal to the direction you want and hold it for 1 second and the Rider M locks that angle automatically.

Another great feature is that you can control the gimbal using your phone via the Bluetooth. Obviously, you can also switch from one mode to another but you can also control the gimbal manually to get that perfect shot.

Zhiyun Rider-M Gimbal Review: BATTERY LIFE

When it comes to the battery life, it’s just fantastic. You can always track the amount of juice left using the app but I have to tell you the batteries last forever and I wasn’t able to kill them in like 5 days. If you need to recharge them, the supplied charger fully recharges the batteries in about 2 hours.

Zhiyun Rider-M Gimbal Review: CONCLUSIONS

In my opinion, the Zhiyun Rider-M is a really great gimbal that has been working absolutely fine so far.

The shots it allows you to take look very smooth even if you don’t hold the gimbal steadily and simply walk normally. Also, the device doesn’t feel cheap at all since it is made entirely of metal.

The last things I wanted to mention again is a great battery life, the ability to control the gimbal using your phone and the ease of use of this device. You just take it out of the box and start shooting.

All in all, I can definitely recommend the Zhiyun Rider-M if you want to step your action camera video game up. I will be using this gimbal in some of my future reviews and I will update the description of this video if something goes wrong with this device. For now, I love the way it works and I think it’s well worth the price of $250.
