<p>We just put up our <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2024/12/10/our-huawei-mate-70-pro-unboxing-hands-on-video-is-up-big-upgrades-with-small-changes/3/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Unboxing and Hands on video of the Huawei Mate 70 Pro</a>. This smartphone is the brand&#8217;s latest flagship smartphone. But how does it compare to some other premium phones from China, which recently had their global debut? Here&#8217;s a quick comparison of the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/huawei-mate-70-pro/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Mate 70 Pro</a> with the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/oppo-find-x8-pro/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Oppo Find X8 Pro</a> and <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/vivo-x200-pro/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Vivo X200 Pro</a>.</p>

<h3>Design &amp; Display</h3>

<p>All three models are flagship grade smartphone models, which offer a premium feel. The form factor and screen are subjective, so it&#8217;s harder to find an objectively better phone here. The Mate 70 Pro, Find X8 Pro, and X200 Pro feature an aluminum frame and glass body. The smartphones support an IP68 and IP69 rating for water and dust resistance. These devices have a large circular camera module on the rear. </p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="576" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/Huawei-Mate-70-Pro-back-design-2-1024x576.png?x44794" alt="Huawei-Mate-70-Pro-back-design-2" class="wp-image-663730" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/Huawei-Mate-70-Pro-back-design-2-1024x576.png 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/Huawei-Mate-70-Pro-back-design-2-300x169.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/Huawei-Mate-70-Pro-back-design-2-768x432.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/Huawei-Mate-70-Pro-back-design-2-1536x864.png 1536w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/Huawei-Mate-70-Pro-back-design-2-696x392.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/Huawei-Mate-70-Pro-back-design-2-1068x601.png 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/Huawei-Mate-70-Pro-back-design-2-747x420.png 747w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/Huawei-Mate-70-Pro-back-design-2.png 1920w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /><figcaption>Huawei Mate 70 Pro</figcaption></figure></div>

<p>Although there&#8217;s a slight difference in screen size. None of these are compact flagship phones, but the Find X8 Pro and X200 Pro have a 6.78-inch LTPO AMOLED display with an FHD+ resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate, and 4500 nits of peak brightness. Meanwhile, the Mate 70 Pro packs a taller 6.9-inch LTPO OLED panel with a 120Hz refresh rate, FHD+ resolution, and 2500 nits of peak brightness. So while the other two are brighter, one has a slightly taller display panel.</p>

<h3>Specifications</h3>

<p>Both the Vivo X200 Pro and Oppo Find X8 Pro are premium smartphones with cutting edge specs. The duo are equipped with the MediaTek Dimensity 9400 SoC. These make it one of the fastest Android phones. However, the Mate 70 Pro is powered by a Kirin 9020 chipset. This processor isn&#8217;t bringing a major upgrade in performance. So the Mate 70 Pro still trails behind in this regard.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="576" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/Oppo-Find-X8-Pro-3-1024x576.png?x44794" alt="Oppo-Find-X8-Pro-3" class="wp-image-657655" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/Oppo-Find-X8-Pro-3-1024x576.png 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/Oppo-Find-X8-Pro-3-300x169.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/Oppo-Find-X8-Pro-3-768x432.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/Oppo-Find-X8-Pro-3-1536x864.png 1536w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/Oppo-Find-X8-Pro-3-696x392.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/Oppo-Find-X8-Pro-3-1068x601.png 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/Oppo-Find-X8-Pro-3-747x420.png 747w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/Oppo-Find-X8-Pro-3.png 1920w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /><figcaption>Oppo Find X8 Pro</figcaption></figure></div>

<p>With the release of the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2024/10/27/how-harmonyos-next-is-different-from-android/#:~:text=HarmonyOS%20Next%2C%20on%20the%20other,task%20management%20and%20memory%20allocation." target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">HarmonyOS Next</a>, Huawei is finally moving away from Android. A massive 6,000mAh battery pack powers the X200 Pro, while the Find X8 Pro has a 5,910mAh cell. Once again, the Mate 70 Pro lags behind with the smallest but still respectable 5,500mAh battery pack. But Huawei leads the pack with a 100W wired and 80W wireless fast charging. Oppo&#8217;s Find X8 Pro supports 80W wired and 50W wireless while Vivo X200 Pro offers 90W wired and 30W wireless fast charging.</p>

<h3>Camera</h3>

<p>Photography is one area where Huawei is renowned. But in recent years, many Chinese brands have started catching up. The Vivo X200 Pro and Oppo Find X8 Pro placed an emphasis on camera performance, with the former&#8217;s Zeiss APO Telephoto lens offering impressive zoom photography on a smartphone. For the main sensor, the Sony LYT808 on the Find X8 Pro and X200 Pro should offer similar levels of performance. But without a doubt, these are two flagship level camera phones.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="683" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/vivo-x200-pro-hands-on-11-1024x683.jpg?x44794" alt="vivo x200 pro hands on 11" class="wp-image-654988" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/vivo-x200-pro-hands-on-11-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/vivo-x200-pro-hands-on-11-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/vivo-x200-pro-hands-on-11-768x512.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/vivo-x200-pro-hands-on-11-1536x1024.jpg 1536w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/vivo-x200-pro-hands-on-11-2048x1365.jpg 2048w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/vivo-x200-pro-hands-on-11-696x464.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/vivo-x200-pro-hands-on-11-1068x712.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/vivo-x200-pro-hands-on-11-1920x1280.jpg 1920w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/vivo-x200-pro-hands-on-11-630x420.jpg 630w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /><figcaption>Vivo X200 Pro</figcaption></figure></div>

<p>Huawei isn&#8217;t bringing similar levels of ground breaking camera tech upgrades on the Mate 70 Pro. But it seems to be refining the overall experience. Its telephoto lens isn&#8217;t as versatile as its competitors, but the 50MP main sensor with a variable aperture gives it an edge in still shots in varying lighting scenarios.</p>

<h3>Pricing</h3>

<p>Last but not least, we have the pricing of these three phones. Huawei&#8217;s Mate 70 Pro is the most expensive out of the lot with a 6,499 Yuan (roughly 892 US Dollars) starting price. However, the Find X8 Pro and X200 Pro have an identical starting price of 5,299 Yuan (roughly 727 US Dollars). </p>

<p>So depending on your preference, your choice between the three might differ. If you want a true flagship experience with a display, camera, and more, the Mate 70 Pro could be for you in China. Although, the X200 Pro and Find X8 Pro are more affordable but still offer impressive performance, bigger batteries, better zoom, and much more.</p>

<p>The much-anticipated <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/category/huawei/">Huawei</a> Mate 70 Pro has officially arrived, and we’ve got the unboxing and hands-on video ready for you! A year after the release of the highly successful <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/huawei-mate-60-pro/">Mate 60 Pro</a>, Huawei has once again pushed the boundaries with its latest flagship. With refined features and a fresh design, the Mate 70 Pro aims to establish itself as one of the best smartphones in Huawei’s history.</p>

<p>Here’s a closer look at what we discovered during the unboxing and our initial hands-on experience.</p>

<h3>Unboxing the Mate 70 Pro</h3>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="576" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/Huawei-Mate-70-Pro-unboxing-1024x576.png?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-663729" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/Huawei-Mate-70-Pro-unboxing-1024x576.png 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/Huawei-Mate-70-Pro-unboxing-300x169.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/Huawei-Mate-70-Pro-unboxing-768x432.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/Huawei-Mate-70-Pro-unboxing-1536x864.png 1536w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/Huawei-Mate-70-Pro-unboxing-696x392.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/Huawei-Mate-70-Pro-unboxing-1068x601.png 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/Huawei-Mate-70-Pro-unboxing-747x420.png 747w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/Huawei-Mate-70-Pro-unboxing.png 1920w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p>The <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/huawei-mate-70-pro/">Mate 70 Pro</a> comes in a well-organized box, containing the essential accessories: a SIM card pin, manual, clear PC case, USB-C to USB-C cable, and a 100W charger. As you can see, the charger still uses Huawei’s unique two-in-one port. The contents are neatly packed, and overall, the unboxing experience sets the tone for the premium device that lies ahead.</p>

<h3>Design and build</h3>

<p>The Mate 70 Pro continues Huawei’s legacy of excellent design. While the device’s rear camera module bumps up slightly more than expected, the overall design is sleek and harmonious. notably, the phone has a rounded frame that’s comfortable to hold.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="576" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/Huawei-Mate-70-Pro-bakck-design-1024x576.png?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-663733" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/Huawei-Mate-70-Pro-bakck-design-1024x576.png 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/Huawei-Mate-70-Pro-bakck-design-300x169.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/Huawei-Mate-70-Pro-bakck-design-768x432.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/Huawei-Mate-70-Pro-bakck-design-1536x864.png 1536w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/Huawei-Mate-70-Pro-bakck-design-696x392.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/Huawei-Mate-70-Pro-bakck-design-1068x601.png 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/Huawei-Mate-70-Pro-bakck-design-747x420.png 747w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/Huawei-Mate-70-Pro-bakck-design.png 1920w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p>The Mate 70 Pro has also earned IP69 certification, offering both high-temperature and high-pressure waterproofing.</p>

<p>The phone’s battery capacity has increased to 5,500mAh, and the wireless and wired charging capabilities have been slightly upgraded from the Mate 60 Pro. However, the fingerprint sensor has been relocated from under the display to the power button. While this may seem like a downgrade, the 3D TOF face unlock feature remains intact, providing another reliable unlocking option that most Android devices lack.</p>

<h3>Performance: the new Kirin 9020 chipset</h3>

<p>The Kirin 9020 chipset is an upgrade in both CPU and GPU frequencies. While the overall boost isn’t groundbreaking, it delivers a smooth experience for day-to-day tasks. Gaming performance still lags behind other flagship devices, though you may benefit from the frame interpolation tech with compatible games. Overall, the Mate 70 Pro is a reliable choice for everyday users. Here&#8217;s <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2024/12/09/everything-you-need-to-know-about-the-kirin-9020-chip/#:~:text=The%20Kirin%209020%20boasts%20a,%2C%20also%20potentially%20Taishan%2Dbased.">everything you need to know</a> about the new chip.</p>

<h3>HarmonyOS NEXT:</h3>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="576" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/Huawei-Mate-70-Pro-HarmonyOS-NEXT-1024x576.png?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-663728" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/Huawei-Mate-70-Pro-HarmonyOS-NEXT-1024x576.png 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/Huawei-Mate-70-Pro-HarmonyOS-NEXT-300x169.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/Huawei-Mate-70-Pro-HarmonyOS-NEXT-768x432.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/Huawei-Mate-70-Pro-HarmonyOS-NEXT-1536x864.png 1536w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/Huawei-Mate-70-Pro-HarmonyOS-NEXT-696x392.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/Huawei-Mate-70-Pro-HarmonyOS-NEXT-1068x601.png 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/Huawei-Mate-70-Pro-HarmonyOS-NEXT-747x420.png 747w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/Huawei-Mate-70-Pro-HarmonyOS-NEXT.png 1920w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p>The HarmonyOS NEXT update marks a significant shift in Huawei’s ecosystem, with the operating system now resembling iOS in many ways and being independent of Android. However, it comes at the cost of some freedom, as AOSP apps cannot be installed. Huawei users outside of China can rest easy, though, as the EMUI version (for global markets) will continue to be used globally, ensuring full compatibility. Here&#8217;s more about <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2024/10/27/how-harmonyos-next-is-different-from-android/#:~:text=HarmonyOS%20Next%2C%20on%20the%20other,task%20management%20and%20memory%20allocation.">how HarmonyOS NEXT is different from Android</a>.</p>

<h3>Display and camera:</h3>

<p>The Mate 70 Pro features a quad-curved display with support for 600 nits of manual peak brightness and up to 1,600 nits in high-brightness mode. The screen provides vibrant colors, fitting nicely into the flagship category.</p>

<p>On the photography front, Huawei has made significant upgrades. The Mate 70 Pro now includes an ultra-wide camera with higher resolution, a telephoto camera with a larger aperture, and an ultra-chroma camera for more accurate white balance. In our tests, the camera performed exceptionally well, producing stunning macro shots thanks to its telephoto lens. The added detail and color accuracy make the Mate 70 Pro one of the best camera phones on the market.</p>

<h3>Conclusion: big upgrades with small changes</h3>

<p>In conclusion, the Huawei Mate 70 Pro brings major upgrades in areas like camera performance and system enhancements, while other aspects, such as the design and display, see minor tweaks.</p>

As a successor to the Kirin 9000 series, the Kirin 9020 promises substantial improvements in processing power, energy efficiency, and AI capabilities. While official details remain scarce, the tech community has pieced together a compelling picture of this advanced processor through teardowns, benchmarks, and leaks.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="681" height="417" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/Kirin-chip.jpg?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-663540" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/Kirin-chip.jpg 681w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/Kirin-chip-300x184.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 681px) 100vw, 681px" /><figcaption>Kirin chip</figcaption></figure></div>

<h3><strong>CPU and GPU details</strong></h3>

<p>The <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/kirin-9020">Kirin 9020</a> boasts a 12-core CPU configuration, a departure from the traditional 8-core design. This configuration is believed to comprise:</p>

<ul><li><strong>2 high-performance cores</strong> clocked at 2.5 GHz, likely based on Huawei&#8217;s in-house Taishan architecture.</li><li><strong>6 mid-cores</strong> running at 2.15 GHz, also potentially Taishan-based.</li><li><strong>4 energy-efficient cores</strong> clocked at 1.6 GHz, possibly ARM Cortex-A510s.</li></ul>

<p>This unique arrangement, combined with hyperthreading capabilities, allows for exceptional multitasking and performance.</p>

<p>The graphical muscle of the Kirin 9020 comes from the Maleoon 920 GPU. This in-house design operates up to 840MHz, a significant upgrade from the Maleoon 910 found in the Kirin 9010. While specifics about the architecture and core count remain elusive, early indications suggest a substantial leap in graphics performance.</p>

<h2><strong>Performance Gains and Efficiency</strong></h2>

<p>Though concrete benchmarks are limited, reports from Huawei&#8217;s internal testing indicate a remarkable 40 percent overall performance boost compared to the Kirin 9010. This improvement is attributed to the enhanced CPU and GPU, as well as optimizations in power management.</p>

<p>Interestingly, the Kirin 9020 appears to be more power-efficient than its predecessor, the Kirin 9000s. Tests suggest a 20% reduction in power consumption, achieved through architectural refinements and a more efficient manufacturing process.</p>

<h2><strong>Connectivity and Features</strong></h2>

<p>Early reports suggest that the Kirin 9020 might be the industry&#8217;s first 3GPP R18 5G-A SoC. This advanced technology integrates satellite access into 5G systems, promising seamless communication even in remote areas. The chipset also likely includes a dedicated satellite module for enhanced connectivity.</p>

<h2><strong>A Unique Design</strong></h2>

<p>Teardowns of devices powered by the Kirin 9020 reveal a larger and thicker carrier board compared to previous Kirin chips. This suggests a more complex design and potentially the integration of additional components, such as the rumored satellite module.</p>

<p>Despite the limited official information, the Kirin 9020 has undeniably made a strong impression. Its unique CPU configuration, powerful GPU, and focus on power efficiency point towards a top-tier chipset capable of delivering exceptional performance. The potential inclusion of advanced 5G-A technology and satellite connectivity further solidifies its position as a cutting-edge processor.</p>

<p>To recall, the new premium series consists of the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/huawei-mate-70/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Mate 70</a>, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/huawei-mate-70-pro/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Mate 70 Pro</a>, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/huawei-mate-70-pro-plus/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Mate 70 Pro+</a>, and <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/huawei-mate-70-rs-ultimate/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Mate 70 RS Ultimate</a>. And according to Huawei&#8217;s consumer business group CEO He Gang, the latest flagships are seeing impressive sales. He claimed that its customers in China have reserved more than 6.7 million units of the Mate 70 series. It is worth noting that these are only reservations and not pre-orders, so Huawei has yet to receive any money from these consumers. But it does give an idea regarding its supposed popularity. </p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="900" height="600" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/Huawei-Mate-70-series-design.jpg?x44794" alt="Huawei-Mate-70-series-design" class="wp-image-660620" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/Huawei-Mate-70-series-design.jpg 900w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/Huawei-Mate-70-series-design-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/Huawei-Mate-70-series-design-768x512.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/Huawei-Mate-70-series-design-696x464.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/Huawei-Mate-70-series-design-630x420.jpg 630w" sizes="(max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px" /><figcaption>Huawei Mate 70 series</figcaption></figure></div>

<p>The reservation number basically showcases the market&#8217;s reception of the Mate 70 series. A new <a href="https://finance.yahoo.com/news/demand-excessive-huaweis-mate-70-073913761.html" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">report from Beijing</a> (via <em><a href="https://www.phonearena.com/news/huawei-mate-70-demand-is-so-high-the-supply-chain-is-working-overtime_id165577" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">PhoneArena</a></em>) stated that Huawei&#8217;s supply chain is working overtime to meet the high demand for the new Mate 70 models. The report claims that the initial supplies manufactured for the new premium phones were still insufficient. He Gang said that the demand for the Mate 70 has been excessive, although analysts claim that the hype behind the Mate 70 is down compared to its predecessor, the Mate 60 series.</p>

<p>Analysts believe that the Mate 70 series could suffer from supply bottlenecks owing to issues with chip production. A recent benchmark leak has revealed that the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2024/11/27/huawei-mate-70-pro-benchmark-reveals-a-new-kirin-9020-chip-with-over-30-performance-improvement/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Huawei Mate 70 Pro+ is powered by the Kirin 9020 SoC</a>, which reportedly offers over 30 percent performance upgrade over the last gen Kiring 9010 chip. These chips are still behind the 3nm based high end chips from Qualcomm, MediaTek, and Apple, but as Huawei moves away from US made technologies, the company is only a few short years behind its global competition.</p>

<p>With the unveiling of the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/huawei-mate-70-pro/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Huawei Mate 70 Pro</a>, a flagship powerhouse, the question arises: How does it compare to Apple&#8217;s iPhone 16 Pro? Both devices target the high-end smartphone market, but Huawei&#8217;s Mate 70 Pro edges ahead in several areas. Here’s a detailed comparison highlighting where the Mate 70 Pro outshines the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/apple-iphone-16-pro/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">iPhone 16 Pro</a>.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="640" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/Huawei-Mate-70-Pro-3-1024x640.png?x44794" alt="Huawei Mate 70 Pro" class="wp-image-661918" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/Huawei-Mate-70-Pro-3-1024x640.png 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/Huawei-Mate-70-Pro-3-300x188.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/Huawei-Mate-70-Pro-3-768x480.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/Huawei-Mate-70-Pro-3-696x435.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/Huawei-Mate-70-Pro-3-1068x668.png 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/Huawei-Mate-70-Pro-3-672x420.png 672w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/Huawei-Mate-70-Pro-3.png 1200w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure></div>

<h3><strong>Display</strong></h3>

<p>The Huawei Mate 70 Pro features a 6.9-inch LTPO OLED display with a variable refresh rate of 1-120Hz, 1440Hz high-frequency PWM dimming, and an impressive peak brightness of 2,500 nits. This display is protected by second-generation Kunlun Glass, known for its drop resistance and durability, making it superior in brightness and protection.</p>

<p>In contrast, the iPhone 16 Pro has a 6.3-inch Super Retina XDR OLED display with a peak brightness of 2,000 nits. While it includes Ceramic Shield protection and supports ProMotion technology, it falls short of the Mate 70 Pro in both size and peak brightness.</p>

<h3><strong>Cameras</strong></h3>

<p>The Huawei Mate 70 Pro&#8217;s camera system includes a 50MP main camera with a variable aperture of f/1.4-f/4.0, providing exceptional control over depth of field. It also boasts a 48MP macro telephoto lens with 4x optical zoom, a 40MP ultra-wide camera, and a groundbreaking 1.5MP multi-spectral imaging sensor. This sensor enhances color accuracy and shadow preservation, making it ideal for photography enthusiasts.</p>

<p>The iPhone 16 Pro features a 48MP wide camera, a 12MP telephoto lens with 5x optical zoom, and a 48MP ultra-wide camera. While the iPhone excels in computational photography and video features like 4k@120 video recording and Spatial Audio, it doesn&#8217;t offer the same level of aperture flexibility or the specialized multi-spectral sensor of the Mate 70 Pro.</p>

<h3><strong>Battery &amp; Charging</strong></h3>

<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/category/huawei/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Huawei</a> leads in battery capacity and charging speed. The Mate 70 Pro houses a 5,500mAh battery with 100W wired charging and 80W wireless charging, ensuring a full charge in minimal time. It also supports 20W reverse wireless charging.</p>

<p>The iPhone 16 Pro includes a smaller 3582mAh battery with 25W wired charging and 25W wireless charging. While <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/category/apple/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Apple</a> has improved battery life through software optimization, the Mate 70 Pro&#8217;s hardware advantage is undeniable.</p>

<h3><strong>Durability</strong></h3>

<p>Both phones are IP68-rated for water and dust resistance, but the Huawei Mate 70 Pro goes a step further with an IP69 rating, ensuring protection against high-pressure water jets. This feature makes the Mate a more rugged option for adventurous users.</p>

<h3><strong>Conclusion</strong></h3>

<p>While the iPhone 16 Pro is an impressive device with its own set of enhancements and the new A18 Pro chip, the Huawei Mate 70 Pro stands out for its superior camera capabilities, longer battery life, and faster charging. These features make the Mate 70 Pro a compelling choice for users who value photography and battery performance over brand loyalty. For consumers in regions where Huawei products are available, the Mate 70 Pro offers a robust alternative that challenges the premium dominance of the iPhone 16 Pro.</p>

<p>While Apple offers compact phones, Huawei does not currently have such options available. According to recent news, Huawei also has <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2024/11/23/huawei-reportedly-has-no-plans-for-compact-phones-anytime-soon/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">no plans to launch a compact phone</a> in the near future.</p>

<p>Earlier today (26th November 2024), <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2024/11/26/huawei-mate70-pro-pro-rs-ultimate-launched-in-china-ryyb-image-sensors-titanium-frame-elegant-design/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Huawei finally launched the Mate 70 series</a> of flagship smartphones in its home market of China. These feature the brand&#8217;s cutting edge technology, so here&#8217;s every feature that makes it stand out among the crowd.</p>

<h3>Huawei Mate 70 Series: Premium Design &amp; Titanium Frame</h3>

<p>The Chinese tech giant&#8217;s latest high-end smartphones feature slim and premium design. To recall, the lineup consists of the Mate 70, Mate 70 Pro, Mate 70 Pro+, and Mate 70 RS Ultimate. Excluding the most expensive RS Ultimate and Mate 70 Pro+ model, the rest feature a glass back and aluminum alloy frame. In my personal opinion, this iteration of the circular camera module is one of the best I&#8217;ve seen so far. </p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="816" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/huawei-mate70-rs-ultimate-design-kv-xs-1024x816.jpg?x44794" alt="huawei-mate70-rs-ultimate-design-kv-xs" class="wp-image-661867" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/huawei-mate70-rs-ultimate-design-kv-xs-1024x816.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/huawei-mate70-rs-ultimate-design-kv-xs-300x239.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/huawei-mate70-rs-ultimate-design-kv-xs-768x612.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/huawei-mate70-rs-ultimate-design-kv-xs-696x554.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/huawei-mate70-rs-ultimate-design-kv-xs-1068x851.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/huawei-mate70-rs-ultimate-design-kv-xs-527x420.jpg 527w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/huawei-mate70-rs-ultimate-design-kv-xs.jpg 1440w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /><figcaption>Huawei Mate 70 RS Ultimate</figcaption></figure></div>

<p>The Mate 70 and Mate 70 Pro have a seamless ring design, while the Mate 70 Pro+ adds contrast with a golden ring around the rear cameras. It also blends a titanium frame like the iPhone 16 Pros, with a glass back. Lastly, we have the Mate 70 RS Ultimate Edition, which takes it up a notch with a titanium frame and a back panel that is made with brocade material. This basically adds another premium feel to Huawei&#8217;s top flagship phone.</p>

<h3>Cameras with Variable Aperture</h3>

<p>Over the last couple of flagship series, Huawei has refined the use of variable apertures on its Mate devices and the Mate 70 lineup continues this legacy. The primary camera on all four models is a 50MP sensor that has an F1.4-F4.0 aperture and OIS support (Optical Image Stabilization). </p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="929" height="734" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/Huawei-Mate-70-Pro-2.png?x44794" alt="Huawei-Mate-70-Pro-2" class="wp-image-661866" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/Huawei-Mate-70-Pro-2.png 929w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/Huawei-Mate-70-Pro-2-300x237.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/Huawei-Mate-70-Pro-2-768x607.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/Huawei-Mate-70-Pro-2-696x550.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/Huawei-Mate-70-Pro-2-532x420.png 532w" sizes="(max-width: 929px) 100vw, 929px" /><figcaption>Huawei Mate 70 Pro+</figcaption></figure></div>

<p>This helps users tweak the amount of light coming into the sensor. All four models have a triple camera setup on the rear, which includes a telephoto shooter and ultra wide angle lens. Other phones have also used variable aperture in the past, but Huawei is the only one that consistently employs it in its flagships.</p>

<h3>Face ID</h3>

<p>For security, there is a side mounted fingerprint scanner on every model. But excluding the base model, the Mate 70 Pro, Mate 70 Pro+, and Mate 70 RS Ultimate are equipped with a 3D face scanner. In other words, you get Face ID. This is another layer of protection, which could be perfect for those moving away from an iPhone. Apart from Apple, the feature is mostly rare since most smartphone makers opt for variants of the fingerprint scanner.</p>

<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/category/huawei/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Huawei</a>, from today, kicked off pre-orders for its upcoming <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2024/11/15/huawei-confirms-the-launch-date-for-mate-70-series-smartphones/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Mate 70 series</a> smartphones, exactly a week ahead of their official launch on November 26. And within the first 10 hours, the pre-order window has attracted over 130,000 registrations. The number is expected to rise further in the coming days leading up to the launch.</p>

<p>Meanwhile, the company&#8217;s online store, Vmall, has now revealed details on the three models in the line — the Mate 70, Mate 70 Pro, and Mate 70 Pro+.</p>

<h2><strong>Huawei Mate 70 series design revealed</strong></h2>

<p>Vmall&#8217;s listing reveals the configuration options for the Mate 70 series. Users will have a choice of five memory variants and eight color options across the three models.&nbsp;</p>

<p>For instance, the Mate 70 and Mate 70 Pro will come in Black, White, Green, and Purple, all featuring 12 GB of RAM. Storage options for these models range from 256 GB to 1 TB.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The Mate 70 Pro+, on the other hand, will offer a distinct color palette of Black, White (potentially with different finishes), Gold, and Sky Blue. Its top-tier model has 16 GB of RAM and storage choices will be limited to 512 GB and 1 TB.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="900" height="600" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/Huawei-Mate-70-series-design.jpg?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-660620" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/Huawei-Mate-70-series-design.jpg 900w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/Huawei-Mate-70-series-design-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/Huawei-Mate-70-series-design-768x512.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/Huawei-Mate-70-series-design-696x464.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/Huawei-Mate-70-series-design-630x420.jpg 630w" sizes="(max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px" /></figure></div>

<p>More importantly, Vmall gives us the first look at the Mate 70 series design. The phone features a large circular camera bump on the rear, accented by a faint gold-finished ring.</p>

<p>It includes four camera openings, likely housing a main camera, an ultra-wide, and a telephoto lens, while the fourth may serve as a depth sensor for improved bokeh shots.</p>

<p>Huawei opens pre-orders for Mate 70 series, reveals designCompared to the Mate 60, the camera bump appears noticeably thicker. The image also reveals a side profile with familiar rounded edges and a curved back panel, seemingly contradicting earlier rumors about a shift to a flat-frame design. The rear panel also seems to have a textured finish. </p>

<p>Following leaks detailing the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2024/11/07/huawei-mate-70-render-leaks-along-with-camera-and-display-specifications/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">standard Mate 70</a>, reliable tech leaker Digital Chat Station has shed light on specifications for the Pro variant. The leak reveals details on the phone’s display, camera, battery, and more. </p>

<h2><strong>Huawei Mate 70 Pro Specifications</strong></h2>

<p>The Pro model is expected to feature a large, curved LTPO display measuring 6.88 inches in size, and 1.5K in resolution with a smooth 120Hz refresh rate and 3D ToF technology for secure facial recognition.</p>

<p>For added security, the Mate 70 Pro is expected to have an ultrasonic in-display fingerprint sensor, which should offer improved security and durability compared to the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/huawei-mate-60-pro/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Mate 60 Pro</a>&#8216;s optical solution.</p>

<p>The camera system on the Pro model appears particularly noteworthy. The leak suggests a 50MP main sensor with a large 1/1.3-inch size and a variable aperture. The main lens is said to utilize either OV50H or the newer OV50K40. The latter is the first smartphone camera sensor with TheiaCel technology that leverages the LOFIC capabilities. </p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="556" height="600" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/Huawei-Mate-70-Pro-specs.jpg?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-659089" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/Huawei-Mate-70-Pro-specs.jpg 556w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/Huawei-Mate-70-Pro-specs-278x300.jpg 278w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/Huawei-Mate-70-Pro-specs-389x420.jpg 389w" sizes="(max-width: 556px) 100vw, 556px" /></figure>

<p>Beyond the main sensor, a significant upgrade could be coming to the telephoto capabilities. The Mate 70 Pro might employ a 50MP periscope lens with a 1/2.5-inch sensor, offering 3.5x optical zoom and a dedicated telephoto macro mode. It would be a step up from the Mate 60 Pro&#8217;s 48MP periscope camera.</p>

<p>Additionally, the leak suggests support for both wired and wireless charging, along with water and dust resistance. While the battery capacity is still unknown, DCS hints at a silicon battery with less than 6,000mAh.</p>

<p>It&#8217;s worth noting that Digital Chat Station has since deleted the post of the leak. The original post also contains a note stating that the information is sourced from the supply chain and may be inaccurate. So, take these details with a pinch of salt.</p>

<p><a href="https://gizmochina.com/category/huawei">Huawei’s</a> Mate series of flagship phones, known for offering top-notch specifications and cameras, has always received positive reception from critics and general users. The <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/huawei-mate-60/">Mate 60</a> series, launched last year, saw a remarkable market response, with phones selling out immediately after release. However, due to US sanctions, Huawei phones are now limited to the Chinese market, and the Mate 60 remained confined to China.</p>

<p>Recently, the company confirmed that it will announce the Mate 70 series of smartphones later this month in China. The Mate 70 series is generating significant buzz in the tech world, with leaks and rumors hinting at a compelling lineup of flagship smartphones. While Huawei remains tight-lipped about the official details, here&#8217;s what we can anticipate based on the available information:</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="576" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/Huawei-Mate-60-Pro-1024x576.png?x44794" alt="Huawei Mate 60 Pro" class="wp-image-658398" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/Huawei-Mate-60-Pro-1024x576.png 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/Huawei-Mate-60-Pro-300x169.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/Huawei-Mate-60-Pro-768x432.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/Huawei-Mate-60-Pro-696x392.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/Huawei-Mate-60-Pro-1068x601.png 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/Huawei-Mate-60-Pro-747x420.png 747w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/Huawei-Mate-60-Pro.png 1200w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /><figcaption>Huawei Mate 60 Pro</figcaption></figure></div>

<h2><strong>Design and Display</strong></h2>

<p>The Mate 70 series is expected to retain the iconic circular camera module, housing four camera sensors arranged in a square formation. However, the module might be integrated into a circular or <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2024/09/22/huawei-mate-70s-latest-leak-reveals-design-changes-new-elliptical-camera-island-tipped/">elliptical</a> island, adding a unique visual element.</p>

<p>Rumors suggest a special &#8220;Ultimate Design&#8221; (UD) variant will <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2024/11/04/huawei-mate-70-ultimate-design-details-tipped/">replace the Mate 60 RS</a>, possibly drawing inspiration from the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/huawei-mate-xt-ultimate/">Mate XT</a>, which debuted a few weeks ago as the world’s first tri-foldable phone. So, the lineup may include multiple models, such as the Mate 70, Mate 70 Pro, Mate 70 Pro+, and Mate 70 Ultimate Design.</p>

<p>It is almost certain that the Mate 70 will feature a large, high-resolution curved-edge display with a 120Hz refresh rate, providing smooth visuals and an immersive viewing experience. The Mate 70 is expected to have a single punch-hole display, while the higher models may adopt a triple camera punch-hole design, similar to their predecessors. </p>

<h2><strong>Performance and Hardware</strong></h2>

<p>A new Kirin 9000-series chipset, possibly based on a 5nm process, is likely to power the Mate 70 series. This should translate to significant performance gains and improved power efficiency.</p>

<p>Speculations suggest the Mate 70 series might launch with HarmonyOS Next as the primary operating system, but with the intriguing possibility of <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2024/10/15/huawei-mate-70-may-launch-dual-os-options-one-with-android-support/">dual-booting Android</a> for greater app compatibility.</p>

<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2024/10/22/huawei-unveils-harmonyos-next-drops-android/">Readers can visit this post</a> to learn all about HarmonyOS Next. This <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2024/10/23/harmonyos-nextsupported-device-update-timeline/">dedicated post</a> provides details about the complete list of supported devices and updated timeline. HarmonyOS has been <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2024/11/04/huawei-harmonyos-reached-15-market-share-in-q3-2024/">steadily gaining market share</a> in China, and it&#8217;s poised to be a threat to Android and iOS in the coming years. Readers can visit this post to learn <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2024/10/27/how-harmonyos-next-is-different-from-android/">how HarmonyOS differs from Android</a>.</p>

<h2><strong>Camera Capabilities</strong></h2>

<p>While specific details are scarce, the Mate 70 series is expected to arrive with a cutting-edge camera system, possibly featuring improved sensors, enhanced zoom capabilities, and advanced image processing algorithms. Likely, the Pro models may come equipped with a 1-inch primary camera. Huawei&#8217;s proprietary XMAGE branding will likely continue to play a prominent role, highlighting the company&#8217;s focus on mobile imaging excellence.</p>

<h2><strong>Other Features</strong></h2>

<p>With the current trend of offering silicon-carbon batteries with larger capacities in the smartphone industry, it is likely that Huawei may also join the bandwagon. Except for the standard model, the Mate 60 series offered 6,000mAh batteries with 88W rapid charging. There’s a possibility that the Mate 70 series may <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2024/08/09/huawei-mate-70-specifications-tipped-could-adopt-ultrasonic-fingerprint-scanner-and-larger-batteries/">pack larger batteries</a> along with 88W rapid charging. The entire lineup may support 50W wireless charging and up to 20W reverse wireless charging. </p>

<p>Rumor has it that the display will house an <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2024/11/01/huawei-mate-70-ultrasonic-fingerprint-scanners/">upgraded ultrasonic fingerprint sensor</a>, providing faster and more reliable biometric authentication. Despite ongoing challenges, 5G connectivity is likely to be a standard feature across the Mate 70 lineup.</p>

<h2><strong>Launch and Availability</strong></h2>

<p>While Huawei has officially confirmed that the Mate 70 series will debut in November, it has yet to announce a specific launch date. There are rumors suggesting an <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2024/11/04/huawei-mate-70-launch-tipped-nov-19/">announcement on Nov. 19</a>. The release of the Mate 70 series in markets outside of China remains unclear.</p>

<p>The Huawei Mate 70 series promises to be a strong contender in the flagship smartphone market, with a compelling combination of design, performance, and camera capabilities. While the ongoing US sanctions continue to pose challenges for Huawei, the company&#8217;s commitment to innovation and technological advancement is evident in the rumored features of the Mate 70 lineup. As the official launch date approaches, we can expect more concrete details to emerge, shedding further light on Huawei&#8217;s latest flagship offerings.</p>

<p>Huawei is all set to launch its new series of flagship smartphones in China soon. But ahead of its official announcement, the Mate 70 series surfaced in a fresh leak, which confirmed its launch date. So here&#8217;s everything you need to know.</p>

<h2>When Does the Huawei Mate 70 Launch?</h2>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large is-resized"><img loading="lazy" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/Huawei-Mate-70-Pro-live-image-1024x512.jpg?x44794" alt="Huawei-Mate-70-Pro-live-image" class="wp-image-652662" width="784" height="391" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/Huawei-Mate-70-Pro-live-image-1024x512.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/Huawei-Mate-70-Pro-live-image-300x150.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/Huawei-Mate-70-Pro-live-image-768x384.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/Huawei-Mate-70-Pro-live-image-696x348.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/Huawei-Mate-70-Pro-live-image-1068x534.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/Huawei-Mate-70-Pro-live-image-840x420.jpg 840w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/Huawei-Mate-70-Pro-live-image.jpg 1200w" sizes="(max-width: 784px) 100vw, 784px" /></figure></div>

<p>To recall, the Chinese tech giant is expected to launch the Mate 70, Mate 70 Pro, Mate 70 Pro+, and Mate 70 RS Ultimate in its home market in the coming days. Now, the latest information has arrived from known tipster Digital Chat Station who shared the launch date on Weibo. Recently, a <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2024/11/04/huawei-mate-70-series-confirmed-for-november-launch/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">senior executive of Huawei confirmed the November 2024 </a>launch timeline for its new Mate 70 lineup. </p>

<p>Now, DCS claimed in the online post that the Mate 70 lineup will be arriving in China on 19th November 2024. That&#8217;s not all, the company is expected to launch the Mate X6 foldable smartphone alongside the Mate 70 series. The tipster also shared the launch dates of some other models that were already confirmed. This includes the Red Magic 10 Pro series, Oppo Reno 13 series, and Vivo S20 series. While we already have the release date for the first two lineup, the Vivo S20 series may launch on November 28. </p>

<h2>The Mate 70 series is expected to debut mid-November</h2>

<p>While a specific launch date hasn’t been announced, a recent leak suggests a mid-November debut. A prior report from Yicai Global indicated that many components for the Mate 70 series have already been supplied to Huawei, hinting at imminent mass production.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="512" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/Huawei-Mate-70-Pro-live-image-1024x512.jpg?x44794" alt="Huawei-Mate-70-Pro-live-image" class="wp-image-652662" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/Huawei-Mate-70-Pro-live-image-1024x512.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/Huawei-Mate-70-Pro-live-image-300x150.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/Huawei-Mate-70-Pro-live-image-768x384.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/Huawei-Mate-70-Pro-live-image-696x348.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/Huawei-Mate-70-Pro-live-image-1068x534.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/Huawei-Mate-70-Pro-live-image-840x420.jpg 840w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/Huawei-Mate-70-Pro-live-image.jpg 1200w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p>For context, the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/huawei-mate-60/">Mate 60</a> series launched in late August last year, with this year’s delay reportedly attributed to the development of Huawei’s new Android-independent platform.</p>

<p>The Mate 70 series is expected to include four models: the Mate 70, Mate 70 Pro, Mate 70 Pro+, and Mate 70 Ultimate Design, similar to last year. Although the company official withheld details on specific specs, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2024/11/01/huawei-mate-70-ultrasonic-fingerprint-scanners/">rumors</a> indicate the series will transition from optical to ultrasonic fingerprint scanners, enhancing speed and reliability—even with wet fingers. This shift aligns with other Snapdragon 8 Elite flagships like the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/oneplus-13/">OnePlus 13</a>, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/vivo-iqoo-13/">iQOO 13</a>, and <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/xiaomi-15/">Xiaomi 15</a> series.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="492" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/Huawei-Mate-70-specs-DCS-1024x492.jpg?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-658191" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/Huawei-Mate-70-specs-DCS-1024x492.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/Huawei-Mate-70-specs-DCS-300x144.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/Huawei-Mate-70-specs-DCS-768x369.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/Huawei-Mate-70-specs-DCS-696x334.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/Huawei-Mate-70-specs-DCS-875x420.jpg 875w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/Huawei-Mate-70-specs-DCS.jpg 1062w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p>Weibo tipster Smart Pikachu previously suggested that upcoming Ultra model flagships, including the Oppo Find X8 Ultra, Xiaomi 15 Ultra, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/samsung-galaxy-s25-ultra/">Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra</a>, and Vivo X200 Ultra, will likely feature Qualcomm’s ultrasonic fingerprint sensors.</p>

<p>In other aspects, the Mate 70 series is expected to retain a <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2024/10/30/huawei-mate-70-series-camera-layout-revealed-in-a-new-leak/">similar camera island design</a> but with additional laser sensors, as hinted by smaller cutouts in leaked images of the camera cover.</p>

<p>Additionally, tipster Digital Chat Station claims the Mate 70 series could feature a more energy-efficient chipset paired with a high-density silicon-anode battery and support for variable aperture in the 50MP main camera. Silicon-anode batteries allow devices to maintain a sleek, lightweight form factor while boosting battery capacity. However, increased battery capacity or improved chipset efficiency are speculative at this stage, so readers should approach these claims with caution.</p>

However, there is <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2024/10/29/top-5-trends-in-new-flagship-smartphones/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">another trend </a>that is becoming more common with premium phones. For enhanced security, flagship phones are now featuring <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2024/10/29/why-ultrasonic-fingerprint-sensor-better/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">ultrasonic fingerprint scanners</a> and it seems Huawei&#8217;s Mate 70 series could be one of them as well. </p>

<h2>Huawei Mate 70 Series Tipped With Ultrasonic Fingerprint Scanner</h2>

<p>The news arrives from known tipster Smart Pikachu on Weibo. The leak claims that the Chinese tech giant&#8217;s upcoming Mate 70 series will use an ultrasonic fingerprint scanner, similar to the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2024/10/31/oneplus-13-launched-with-snapdragon-8-elite-6000mah-battery-and-slick-lightweight-design/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">recently unveiled OnePlus 13</a>. Smart Pikachu claims that the Huawei Mate 70 lineup will pack this technology for enhanced security. The online post further claims that upcoming Ultra model flagships (outside of Huawei smartphones) are expected to debut next year with Qualcomm&#8217;s ultrasonic fingerprint sensors.</p>

<p>To recall, there are plenty of Ultra series models that are expected to launch in the coming months. This includes the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2024/10/29/oppo-find-x8-ultra-camera-specifications-leak-reveals-one-inch-camera-dual-periscope-telephoto-senors/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Oppo Find X8 Ultra</a>,<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2024/10/30/xiaomi-15-ultra-camera-specifications-leaked/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener"> Xiaomi 15 Ultra</a>, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/samsung-galaxy-s25-ultra/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra</a>, and <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2024/10/22/vivo-x200-ultra-seemingly-teased-to-feature-snapdragon-8-elite-chip/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Vivo X200 Ultra</a>. There are more Ultra branded phones, which may likely support this technology. This is all the information that was shared on the Weibo post. Just recently, the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2024/10/30/huawei-mate-70-series-camera-layout-revealed-in-a-new-leak/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">camera layout of the Mate 70 series</a> was revealed in a new leak. </p>

<p>There are also rumors that the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2024/10/15/huawei-mate-70-may-launch-dual-os-options-one-with-android-support/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Mate 70 may be unveiled with dual OS</a> options. The primary operating system is the new HarmonyOS Next, while the secondary one may have Android support. Since the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2024/10/23/harmonyos-nextsupported-device-update-timeline" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">HarmonyOS Next is a major upgrade</a> that has Huawei finally moving away from Android, it would make sense that it keeps some form of support for the more popular Android platform. This is all the information we have at the moment, so stay tuned for more updates. </p>

<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/category/huawei/">Huawei</a>&#8216;s upcoming Mate 70 series, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2024/09/24/huawei-mate-70-series-tipped-to-launch-in-november/">expected</a> to launch in November, has sparked excitement with fresh leaks detailing slightly redesigned camera modules across all models.</p>

<p>The latest images, shared on Weibo, reveal that Huawei plans to continue its approach to camera design for the high-end Mate 70 RS Ultimate. The Mate 70 lineup will include four models: the standard, Pro, Pro+, and the RS Ultimate Design.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="576" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/Huawei-Mate-70-series-camera-cover.jpg?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-657507" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/Huawei-Mate-70-series-camera-cover.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/Huawei-Mate-70-series-camera-cover-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/Huawei-Mate-70-series-camera-cover-768x432.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/Huawei-Mate-70-series-camera-cover-696x392.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/Huawei-Mate-70-series-camera-cover-747x420.jpg 747w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<h2>Refined camera module design</h2>

<p>In the Mate 70 RS Ultimate Design, Huawei maintains its iconic octagonal lens setup. The camera cover includes four prominent lens openings arranged in a square alongside a total of five smaller cutouts for the flash module lasers and additional sensors such as color temperature lenses.</p>

<p>The other three models in the series are expected to feature rounded camera modules, marking a departure from the previous generation&#8217;s layout. While the exact arrangement of lenses and sensors differs slightly across models, Huawei is likely aiming to upgrade the camera experience by providing a bigger camera module with a quad-camera setup, as indicated by early images and leaks.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="576" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/HUAWEI-MATE-60-PRO02-1024x576.jpg?x44794" alt="HUAWEI-MATE-60-PRO02" class="wp-image-562600" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/HUAWEI-MATE-60-PRO02-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/HUAWEI-MATE-60-PRO02-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/HUAWEI-MATE-60-PRO02-768x432.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/HUAWEI-MATE-60-PRO02-1536x864.jpg 1536w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/HUAWEI-MATE-60-PRO02-696x392.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/HUAWEI-MATE-60-PRO02-1068x601.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/HUAWEI-MATE-60-PRO02-747x420.jpg 747w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/HUAWEI-MATE-60-PRO02.jpg 1920w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /><figcaption>Huawei Mate 60 Pro</figcaption></figure>

<p>Earlier reports suggest that the Mate 70 Pro could come equipped with a triple-camera setup featuring a 60MP main sensor, a 12MP ultrawide, and a 48MP telephoto lens. However, with the new camera design showing a total of four cutouts for the camera, it’s possible that Huawei might add more cameras than previously speculated. This anticipated camera upgrade aligns with Huawei’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its position in mobile photography, potentially enabling the Mate 70 series to capture more detailed and vibrant images than its predecessors. The Mate 70 Pro was <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2024/09/28/huawei-mate-70-pro-first-live-image-shows-five-rear-cameras/">previously spotted</a> in a leaked image with a similar camera layout.</p>

<p>As for the performance, the Mate 70 series is rumored to power Huawei&#8217;s latest Kirin 9100 chipset. Although specific details of the Kirin 9100 are limited, it promises to deliver improved performance and power efficiency over the Kirin 9000S found in the Mate 60 series.</p>

<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/category/huawei/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Huawei</a>&#8216;s next big phone, the Mate 70 Pro, is rumored for a release sometime next month or if late, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2024/09/24/huawei-mate-70-series-tipped-to-launch-in-november/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">in November</a>. Although the company hasn’t confirmed anything yet, we’ve been hearing about it via leaks and rumors. A leaked image of the device has now surfaced online showing the upcoming phone in real for the first time. </p>

<h2><strong>Huawei Mate 70 Pro image reveals few design details</strong></h2>

<p>The image, according to the source, shows a Huawei executive holding the Mate 70 Pro. The phone appears to sport a familiar circular camera island on the back and is housing a whopping five cameras. The display also seems to curve along all edges, following a design trend we&#8217;ve seen on other flagships.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="512" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/Huawei-Mate-70-Pro-live-image-1024x512.jpg?x44794" alt="Huawei Mate 70 Pro live image" class="wp-image-652662" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/Huawei-Mate-70-Pro-live-image-1024x512.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/Huawei-Mate-70-Pro-live-image-300x150.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/Huawei-Mate-70-Pro-live-image-768x384.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/Huawei-Mate-70-Pro-live-image-696x348.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/Huawei-Mate-70-Pro-live-image-1068x534.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/Huawei-Mate-70-Pro-live-image-840x420.jpg 840w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/Huawei-Mate-70-Pro-live-image.jpg 1200w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /><figcaption>Huawei Mate 70 Pro Live Image Leaks</figcaption></figure></div>

<p>While the case keeps the phone&#8217;s rear material and design a mystery, we can see the volume rocker and a potentially accented power button on the right-hand side. The case itself has three cutouts at the top, likely for a SIM card tray, microphone, and possibly an IR blaster.</p>

<h2><strong>Specifications</strong></h2>

<p>As for the specs, the Mate 70 Pro is expected to be powered by a new Kirin 9100 chipset. The details of this SoC are fairly scarce at the moment, but we can expect it to offer better performance and efficiency compared to the Kirin 9000S found in the Mate 60 Pro.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="600" height="329" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/12/Huawei-Mate-60-Pro.jpg?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-588400" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/12/Huawei-Mate-60-Pro.jpg 600w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/12/Huawei-Mate-60-Pro-300x165.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px" /><figcaption>Huawei Mate 60 Pro front</figcaption></figure></div>

<p>We are also expecting changes to the camera systems. According to a <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2024/08/31/huawei-mate-70-pro-design-and-specification-surfaces-in-new-leak/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">previous report</a>, the phone is expected to have a triple rear camera system with a 60MP main, 12MP ultrawide, and a 48MP telephoto. However, if the new image indeed shows the Mate 70 Pro with five cameras, the previous leaks may no longer be accurate.</p>

<p>So it’s important to note that leaks can be inaccurate even if they come from reliable sources. Huawei has yet to officially confirm any details about the Mate 70 series. But if the details hold true, what do you think—are these changes enough to compete with the latest flagships from other manufacturers?</p>

<p>Richard Yu, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/category/huawei/">Huawei</a>&#8216;s chairman of the Board of Directors of the Consumer BG, has already announced that the public beta version of the company&#8217;s HarmonyOS NEXT operating system will start rolling out on October 8. Now the supply chain hints that the company may launch the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/huawei-mate-70/">Huawei Mate 70</a> series in November this year. However, a specific launch date is yet to be revealed.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="900" height="600" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/Huawei-Mate-70-Pro-Leak.jpg?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-647968" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/Huawei-Mate-70-Pro-Leak.jpg 900w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/Huawei-Mate-70-Pro-Leak-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/Huawei-Mate-70-Pro-Leak-768x512.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/Huawei-Mate-70-Pro-Leak-696x464.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/Huawei-Mate-70-Pro-Leak-630x420.jpg 630w" sizes="(max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px" /></figure>

<p>The news comes from a report from Yicai Global that claims that many of the components of the Mate 70 series have already been supplied to Huawei. It suggests the phone is nearing mass production, if it hasn&#8217;t already begun. The report further notes that the mass production is expected to start before the Mid-Autumn Festival in China, which typically corresponds to mid-September to early October. According to industry sources, the Mate 70 series will likely launch in November this year.</p>

<p>For context, the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/huawei-mate-60/">Huawei Mate 60</a> series was launched towards the end of August and was released in early September of last year. It was previously speculated that the delayed launch of this year&#8217;s flagship is related to the development of the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/harmonyos-next/">HarmonyOS NEXT</a> operating system.</p>

<p>To recap, the Huawei Mate 60 and Mate 60 Pro were the first devices to make headlines for featuring the company&#8217;s self-developed 7nm chipset. Since then, Huawei has launched several devices with enhanced versions of the chipset. It is rumored that the Mate 70 series will be powered by a <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2024/07/29/kirin-9100-leaked-details-suggest-energy-efficiency-on-par-with-snapdragon-8-gen-2/">Kirin 9100</a> chipset, which is expected to offer an upgraded performance as compared to its predecessor. It will be interesting to see what the Mate 70 series can achieve when paired with the new operating system. The company&#8217;s President of Mobile Cloud, Zhu Yonggang, claims that HarmonyOS NEXT has accomplished in a year what took Android and iOS “17 years.”</p>

<p>According to a recent leak from tipster DCS, a prototype of the Huawei Mate 70 features a centered 3D facial recognition system on a quad-curved screen. While previous leaks hint at an ultrasonic fingerprint scanner, DCS claims that the series integrates the fingerprint sensor into the power button and shifts to a flat design for the metal middle frame. As this design information contradicts earlier rumors, it&#8217;s best to take it with a grain of salt.</p>

<p>Earlier this month, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/huawei">Huawei</a> unveiled the Huawei Mate XT, the world’s first tri-foldable phone. According to a <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2024/09/19/nova-13-series-mate-70-series-and-mate-x6-foldable-launch-timeframe-tipped/">recent leak</a> by tipster Digital Chat Station, the company will announce the Nova 13 series of smartphones in October. He also stated that the company is tentatively planning to launch the Mate 70 series of flagship phones and the Mate X6 foldable smartphone in November. The tipster appears to have revealed details about the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2024/08/31/huawei-mate-70-pro-design-and-specification-surfaces-in-new-leak/">design changes</a> expected in the highly anticipated Mate 70 series in a recent Weibo post.</p>

<h3>Huawei Mate 70 series design changes</h3>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full is-style-default"><img loading="lazy" width="974" height="399" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/image-108.png?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-651333" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/image-108.png 974w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/image-108-300x123.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/image-108-768x315.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/image-108-696x285.png 696w" sizes="(max-width: 974px) 100vw, 974px" /></figure>

<p>The above screenshot shows that DCS did not disclose the name of the phone manufacturer involved in the leak. However, the contents of the leak suggest that he could be referring to the Mate 70 lineup. The Mate 70&#8217;s engineering prototype features a centred 3D facial recognition system on a quad-curved screen, according to the leak. Both variants, probably referring to the Mate 70 and 70 Pro, are of a standard large size, with a metal flat-edge frame and a fingerprint sensor integrated into the power button. This contradicts previous leaks that the Mate 70 will have an <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2024/08/09/huawei-mate-70-specifications-tipped-could-adopt-ultrasonic-fingerprint-scanner-and-larger-batteries/">ultrasonic in-screen fingerprint sensor</a>. </p>

<p>The device&#8217;s back panel features a centred elliptical camera island with a single periscope lens. To recall, the Mate 60 series had a unique &#8220;splicing scheme&#8221; that combined both metal and glass on the back. However, the new leak suggests that the company may have opted for an all-glass back for the Mate 70 series.</p>

<p>Lastly, the tipster also speculated that the new processor powering the Mate 70 lineup will deliver greater energy efficiency than before, which could be why the series may not require a large amount of heat dissipation materials. Finally, the tipster said the details he shared in the leak are based on the prototype, and the final production model may vary.</p>

<p>Richard Yu, a senior executive at Huawei, previously announced that the Mate 70 series will officially commercialize Harmony NEXT in the fourth quarter. We expect the new OS to enhance overall device performance by 30 percent, triple connection speeds, and reduce power consumption by 20 percent.</p>

<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/category/huawei/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Huawei</a> is soon expected to launch the Mate 70 series smartphones. While their details have been scarce compared to previous launches, a new leak has revealed some design and hardware changes for the top-tier <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/huawei-mate-70-pro/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Mate 70 Pro </a>smartphone. </p>

<p>The most notable change appears to be on the rear of the phone. As per a render shared by <em><a href="https://techboilers.com/huawei-mate-70-pro-vs-mate-60-pro-latest-leak-spills-the-beans/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">TechBoilers</a></em>, the phone seems to retain the signature circular camera module of the Mate 60 Pro, but with a thicker outer glass ring. </p>

<p>The LED flash has been relocated to the bottom of the ring, accompanied by a new inscription: &#8220;AI-DC.&#8221; This inscription could mean AI-powered image processing for the camera system.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="900" height="600" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/Huawei-Mate-70-Pro-Leak.jpg?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-647968" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/Huawei-Mate-70-Pro-Leak.jpg 900w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/Huawei-Mate-70-Pro-Leak-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/Huawei-Mate-70-Pro-Leak-768x512.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/Huawei-Mate-70-Pro-Leak-696x464.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/Huawei-Mate-70-Pro-Leak-630x420.jpg 630w" sizes="(max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px" /></figure></div>

<p>Under the hood, the leak suggests the Mate 70 Pro will be powered by a new <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/kirin-9100/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Kirin 9100</a> chipset. The details of this SoC are fairly scarce at the moment, but we can expect it to offer better performance and efficiency compared to the Kirin 9000S found in the Mate 60 Pro.</p>

<p>The leak also details changes to the camera system. The main sensor on the Mate 70 Pro is rumored to be a 60MP unit, a bump from the 50MP sensor on the Mate 60 Pro. The 12MP ultrawide sensor and the 48MP 5x periscope telephoto lens appear to remain unchanged based on the leak.</p>

<p>On the front of the phone, the phone is expected to feature a 48MP sensor, replacing the 32MP unit on the Mate 60 Pro. There will also be a 3D ToF sensor for advanced facial recognition.</p>

<p>It&#8217;s important to note that these are just leaks, and Huawei has yet to officially confirm any details about the Mate 70 series. But if the details hold true, what do you think—are these changes enough to compete with the latest flagships from other manufacturers remains to be seen?</p>

<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/category/huawei/">Huawei</a> launched the Mate 60 series in China at the end of August last year. Given this timeline, it&#8217;s expected that the company would reveal the successor around this time. However, Weibo tipster Digital Chat Station previously <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2024/07/23/huawei-mate-70-launh-delay-harmonyos-next-kirin-chip-challenges/">claimed</a> that the launch of the successors might be delayed, potentially occurring in mid-to-late Q4 this year.</p>

<p>In the latest leak, images of the back panels of the upcoming devices have been exposed, which reveals some changes in the camera layout.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="772" height="1024" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/Huawei-Mate-70-series-back-panels-772x1024.png?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-646114" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/Huawei-Mate-70-series-back-panels-772x1024.png 772w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/Huawei-Mate-70-series-back-panels-226x300.png 226w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/Huawei-Mate-70-series-back-panels-768x1019.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/Huawei-Mate-70-series-back-panels-696x923.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/Huawei-Mate-70-series-back-panels-317x420.png 317w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/Huawei-Mate-70-series-back-panels.png 861w" sizes="(max-width: 772px) 100vw, 772px" /></figure>

<p>As you can see from the image, the Mate 70 series will come with a similar camera module. However, it appears that the company has changed the placement of the different camera sensors. For example, a large cutout can be seen on top of the camera module (where the flash module was on the predecessors). This means that one of the camera sensors is relocated to the top of the camera island.</p>

<p>You can also notice an octagonal camera module in the images, which likely represents the Mate 70 RS Ultimate. Notably, the octagonal camera island in the leaked image has even sharper angles as compared to the octagonal camera island of the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/huawei-mate-60-rs-ultimate/">Mate 60 RS Ultimate</a>.</p>

<p>In terms of hardware, the Huawei Mate 70 series is expected to be equipped with a new generation of Kirin chips. The series may adopt the three-punch home camera design on the front, 3D face recognition technology.</p>

<p>The upcoming Mate series devices could be the first to equip the HarmonyOS NEXT operating system. For those unfamiliar, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/harmonyos-next/">HarmonyOS NEXT</a> is expected to be a new breakthrough for Huawei in the software ecosystem.</p>

<h2>The Mate 70 series is rumored to offer a significantly improved imaging system</h2>

<p>People familiar with the development revealed that the phone will come with major improvements in the camera hardware. Specific versions of the phone will equip a 1&#8243; camera sensor made by OmniVision. Notably, the sensor surpasses the Sony IMX989 in some aspects. The 50MP OV50K (measures at 1/1.3, from OmniVision) sensor will also be a part of the camera sensor. Although it&#8217;s unclear what focal it will be used for.</p>

<p>A previous leak from last month claims that the phone will offer a 3D spatial zoom feature that can offer a more immersive video and audio experience. The periscope camera will include improved lenses and a new variable aperture technology.</p>

<p>It was previously revealed that the upcoming Mate series device will be powered by a new Kirin chip with 5G support. This could be the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2024/07/08/kirin-9100-to-surpass-snapdragon-8-gen-2-in-terms-of-performance-claims-tipster/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Kirin 9100</a>, which the company is also expected to unveil later this year. The Mate 70 series is also going to be the first to bring <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/category/huawei/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Huawei</a>&#8216;s self-developed operating system HarmonyOS NEXT to the market. Rumor claims that the upcoming Kirin 9100 chip performs between the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 and <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/snapdragon-8-gen-3/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Snapdragon 8 Gen 3</a>.</p>

<p>To give you an idea of what to expect, here&#8217;s a recap of the specs of the Huawei Mate 60 from last year.</p>

<p>The predecessor comes with a 6.69&#8243; 1216 x 2688p (441 ppi density) LTPO OLED display and is powered by the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/kirin-9000s/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Kirin 9000S</a> chip. It packs a 50 MP main sensor with f/1.4-f/4.0 variable aperture and OIS support. This is paired with a 12MP 5x periscope telephoto (that also supports OIS) and a 12MP ultrawide. The 13MP selfie camera offers a wide field of view (18mm). To power the system, the phone packs a 4750 mAh battery and supports 66W wired and 50W wireless charging.</p>

The company has already begun Beta testing the OS on the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2024/06/21/huawei-harmonyos-next-update-eligible-compatiable-devices/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Mate 60 series and a bunch of other devices</a> starting today.</p>

<p>While details about the Mate 70 series hardware are scarce, leaks suggest that the Pro model will maintain the triple punch-hole display design seen in its predecessors, though it&#8217;s unclear if this extends to the entire lineup. </p>

<p>To recall, the<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/huawei-mate-60-pro/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener"> Mate 60 Pro</a> features a 13-megapixel ultrawide selfie camera, a 3D ToF sensor, and additional sensors and lasers for 3D face mapping. The Mate 70 Pro is likely to continue using the same set of front sensors.</p>

<p>The rear camera system is another area of focus for leaks. The Mate 70 series might utilize upcoming Omnivision sensors for improved image and video capture. Additionally, the top model in the line could feature a retractable lens similar to the one in the Huawei Pura 70 Ultra.</p>

<p>The Mate 70 series is also rumored to feature a new <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2024/05/13/huawei-mate-70-series-to-come-with-a-super-core-kirin-chip/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Kirin chip</a>, though details about it are scarce at the moment.</p>

<p>The <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/huawei">Huawei</a> Mate 60 series of flagship phones were announced through the Pioneer Program in August 2023 in China. Rumors are rife that Huawei is preparing for the launch of the Mate 70 series, though the official release date has not been announced. There is a possibility that it will launch in August or <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2024/01/29/huawei-mate-70-launch-timeline/">September of this year</a>. A new leak has appeared on Weibo to showcase the front design of the Mate 70 Pro.</p>

<h3><strong>Huawei Mate 70 Pro front design leaked</strong></h3>

<div class="wp-block-image is-style-default"><figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="526" height="936" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/image-90.png?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-632905" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/image-90.png 526w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/image-90-169x300.png 169w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/image-90-236x420.png 236w" sizes="(max-width: 526px) 100vw, 526px" /></figure></div>

<p>According to a drawing shared by leaker Setsuna Digital, the Huawei Mate 70 Pro will retain the three front punch holes seen in the Mate 60 Pro, with similar positions and diameters. This suggests the front design will remain largely unchanged, with potential optimizations to the screen frame for a higher screen-to-body ratio.</p>

<p>The Mate 70 Pro&#8217;s screen is expected to offer a stronger visual experience, with Huawei being the only manufacturer using this three-hole design. Huawei has thoughtfully included a system function to hide the holes, making the space between them appear black, similar to the iPhone&#8217;s Smart Island.</p>

<p>To recall, the Mate 60 Pro’s front features a 13-megapixel ultrawide selfie camera, a 3D ToF sensor, and additional sensors and lasers for 3D face mapping. It is likely that the Mate 70 Pro may continue to feature the same set of sensors on its front.</p>

<p>Regarding the back design, the Huawei Mate 70 series will reportedly feature a circular lens module but with new design elements to enhance recognizability and a business-like appearance. The series will offer both straight-screen and curved-screen options, with the former likely for the standard version and the latter for the Mate 70 Pro and higher-end models.</p>
