Through a blog post in the Huawei Xinsheng online forum (an online community for Huawei users in China), he shared the many milestones that Huawei has achieved in the smartphone market throughout the 10 years since Huawei launched its first flagship, the Huawei Ascend P1, back in January 2012.</span></p>
<figure id="attachment_432696" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-432696" style="width: 600px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><img loading="lazy" class="wp-image-432696 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/Huawei-P1-Huawei-P50.png?x10805" alt="Huawei-P1-to-Huawei P50" width="600" height="320" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/Huawei-P1-Huawei-P50.png 600w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/Huawei-P1-Huawei-P50-300x160.png 300w" sizes="(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px" /><figcaption id="caption-attachment-432696" class="wp-caption-text">All Huawei P series flagships from Huawei Ascend P1(Top Left) to Huawei P50 Pocket(Bottom Right)</figcaption></figure>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Huawei first started development for the Huawei Ascend P1 as early as in the summer of 2011, where Huawei wanted to put out its first competitive flagship smartphone to the market to make a name for itself in the industry. Mr. Wang Yonggang recalled that Huawei called in their research team from Beijing, Shanghai, and Xi’an to fly over to Shenzhen to help develop the Huawei Ascend P1 together with their Shenzhen team. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">After many months of market research and prototypes, they finally launched the Huawei Ascend P1 in January 2012 with a 4.3 AMOLED display, 1.5GHz dual-core processor, 8MP BSI rear camera in a lightweight and 7.6mm unibody, at a flagship price of RMB 2,999(471 USD) at the time. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Although the Huawei Ascend P1 was not a bestseller by any metrics, it was Huawei&#8217;s first step to transition away from a B2B (Business to Business) company to a B2C(Business to Consumer) company with its first-ever flagship smartphone for the Chinese public.</span></p>
<figure id="attachment_432697" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-432697" style="width: 600px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><img loading="lazy" class="wp-image-432697 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/Huawei-P1.jpg?x10805" alt="Huawei Ascend P1" width="600" height="400" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/Huawei-P1.jpg 600w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/Huawei-P1-300x200.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px" /><figcaption id="caption-attachment-432697" class="wp-caption-text">Huawei Ascend P1</figcaption></figure>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Huawei’s next flagship, the Huawei Ascend P2, however, was not released in China and was instead released outside of China in markets such as the European and Japanese markets in 2013. This was due in part that the Huawei Ascend P2 was equipped with 4G which China did not have a proper rollout till 2014, and therefore Huawei decided to release it in the global market instead. The Huawei Ascend P2 was also the first Huawei flagship to be equipped with Huawei’s in-house <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/huawei-kirin">Kirin</a> SOC.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The next milestone for Huawei was the Huawei Ascend P6 with its show-stopping ID design, as the P6 was the world’s thinnest smartphone at its release, with a thickness of only 6.18mm. Looking back, it was the Huawei flagship that defined the premium design language of Huawei P series flagships for many years to come. </span></p>
<figure id="attachment_432698" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-432698" style="width: 600px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><img loading="lazy" class="wp-image-432698 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/Huawei-P6.jpg?x10805" alt="Huawei Ascend P6" width="600" height="400" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/Huawei-P6.jpg 600w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/Huawei-P6-300x200.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px" /><figcaption id="caption-attachment-432698" class="wp-caption-text">Huawei Ascend P6</figcaption></figure>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The next big leap was the Huawei P9 with its dual rear camera setup. The Huawei P9 was Huawei’s first phone to collaborate with famous camera imaging company Leica, and the P9’s rear camera was equipped with a normal color lens as well as a monochrome lens. The phone then captures the image with both lenses and uses computational software to provide the best-looking photo for the user.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The next generational leap in photography was with the Huawei P20 Pro with its industry-breaking triple camera setup consisting of a wide lens, a monochrome lens, and a telephoto lens for versatile photography. The Huawei P20 Pro also came with the popular colourway Twilight, which solidified Huawei’s flagship design philosophy in the premium market.</span></p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The Huawei P30 series <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2019/03/26/huawei-p30-and-huawei-p30-pro-launch-with-impressive-new-cameras/">adopted a new type of RYYB colored</a> lens for better images, while the P40 series provided marginal upgrades, such as 10x optical zoom for the series.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/huawei-p50/">Huawei P50</a> series was quite a confusing flagship lineup until recently. But Huawei <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/12/23/huawei-p50-pocket-launch-premium-z-flip3-rival/">launched the P50 Pocket this week</a>, the company’s first-ever clamshell flagship foldable, which proved that Huawei is bringing forward innovation to its P series flagships once again.</span></p>

The <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/huawei-p9/">Huawei P9</a> and <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/huawei-p9-plus/">P9 Plus</a> flagships from 2016 were also included. Report has it that the update is on the way.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-95893" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/Huawei-P9.jpeg?x10805" alt="Huawei P9" width="600" height="388" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/Huawei-P9.jpeg 600w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/Huawei-P9-300x194.jpeg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px" /></p>
<p>The info comes from Huawei&#8217;s product manager who confirmed the update on the official forum. The update will bring Android 8.0 Oreo to the device and may likely be the last major update it receives.</p>
<p>When the Huawei P9 and Huawei P9 Plus were released in April 2016, they ran Android 6.0 Marshmallow out of the box. It later got an update to Nougat.</p>
<p>The Huawei P9 and P9 Plus are the first Huawei phones to come with optics co-developed with Leica. The phone may already be almost 2 years old but it should still hold its own against a lot of phones in the market today.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-178951" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/Huawei-P9-P9-Plus-EMUI-8.0-update.png?x10805" alt="Huawei P9 P9 Plus EMUI 8.0 update" width="600" height="369" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/Huawei-P9-P9-Plus-EMUI-8.0-update.png 600w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/Huawei-P9-P9-Plus-EMUI-8.0-update-300x185.png 300w" sizes="(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px" /></p>
<p>EMUI 8 will surely breath new life into the device with its AI engine for resource allocation, smart split screen, and navigation dock. Though some of the features found in the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/huawei-mate-10/">Mate 10</a> and <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/huawei-mate-10-pro/">Mate 10 Pro&#8217;s</a> version of EMUI 8 will be missing.</p>
<p>The Huawei P9 has a 5.2&#8221; FHD IPS display while the P9 Plus has a 5.5&#8221; FHD Super AMOLED 3D touch display. Both are powered by the Kirin 955 with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of expandable storage. The P9 also comes in a 3GB RAM + 32G ROM variant.</p>

<p>While they both have the same dual 12MP f/2.2 rear sensors, their selfie cameras have different apertures. F/1.9 on the P9 Plus and F/2.4 on the P9. The P9 Plus also has stereo speakers and a 3400mAh battery while the P9 has a 3000mAh battery.</p>

Now, the Chinese firm has come across a vulnerability on Huawei P9 Plus that makes it possible for the hackers to access its vibrator service to cause the system to crash.</p>
<p>Huawei has also fixed the issue on P9 Plus by releasing the B386 software update. However, before the update was released, the vibrator service of the smartphone had a Denial of Service (DoS) vulnerability (assigned as CVE ID: CEV-2017-2731) because of a lack in checking parameters. It could allow hackers to use a malicious app installed on the P9 Plus to send a parameter to the vibrator service of the phone to cause the phone to freeze.</p>
<p>If the patch was not released quickly, hackers could have used the vulnerability to create ransomware that could have made the smartphone unusable unless their demands were met. Even though the issue has been resolved, there is no confirmation on how many P9 Plus smartphones were actually hacked through the vibrator service vulnerability.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-101532 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/Huawei-P9-Plus-4.jpg?x10805" alt="huawei p9 plus" width="500" height="500" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/Huawei-P9-Plus-4.jpg 500w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/Huawei-P9-Plus-4-150x150.jpg 150w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/Huawei-P9-Plus-4-300x300.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px" /></p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><strong><span style="color: #ff0000;">Related:</span> <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2016/06/15/huawei-sold-2-6-million-huawei-p9-p9-plus-smartphones-since-launch/" target="_blank">Huawei Sold Over 2.6 million Huawei P9 &amp; P9 Plus Smartphones Since Launch</a></strong></p>
<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/huawei-p9-plus/" target="_blank">Huawei P9 Plus </a>owners should be aware of the fact that the hackers could successfully exploit the vibrator service vulnerability only after users were tricked to install a malicious app. A simple way to avoid such a hack attack is to be careful and install only those apps that are credible.</p>
<p>The vulnerability for <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/huawei-mate-9-2/" target="_blank">Huawei Mate 9</a> and <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/huawei-mate-9-pro/" target="_blank">Mate 9 Pro</a> could allow hacker with root access on both devices to read and write memory data anywhere. The hackers could also initiate an arbitrary code in the TrustZone. Only Mate 9 and Mate 9 Pro that are currently running on B156 or older version are vulnerable to the attack. However, the latest firmware for these phones are enough to resolve this exploit.</p>

<p>Huawei did recently release a time table that shows when it will push upgrades to EMUI 5.0 in China. The time-table shows earlier models like the Mate 8, P9, P9 Plus and others had started receiving upgrades to the beta version since November last year. While the full upgrade should have started rolling from January 6, 2017. Some models like the G9 Plus, Huawei Nova, Honor 6X, Honor Note 8 and M3 tablet would start getting their full upgrades between March and May 2017, according to the schedule.</p>

But with this latest teaser, all owners of the P9 and P9 Plus would get the upgrade pushed to their smartphones before the Spring Festival. The monumental achievement helped Huawei climb to the enviable position as the world&#8217;s third largest smartphone maker, just behind global giants Samsung and Apple.</p>
<p>In a bid to build on last year&#8217;s successes, the company did set a goal of 140 million smartphone shipment for 2016 and recent reports point to the fact that the Chinese phone company is well on its way to achieving its set goal.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-77924" src="http://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/04/leica-2.jpg?x10805" alt="Huawei - Leica" width="800" height="420" /></p>
<p>According to reports in the Electronic times, Huawei recently announced that its mobile phones shipment for the first quarter of 2016 reached a whopping 28.3 million units.</p>
<p>Huawei&#8217;s flagship <a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/2016/06/15/huawei-sold-2-6-million-huawei-p9-p9-plus-smartphones-since-launch/">P9 and P9 Plus devices released just two months back</a>, have recorded sales exceeding 2.6 million units according to recent data from Huawei. Both the Huawei P9 and P9 Plus sport dual rear cameras manufactured by renowned German camera maker &#8211; Leica as their strongest selling point.</p>
<p>Again, Huawei is expected to release another flagship device this July &#8211; the Huawei Honor 8, which is expected to carry a moderate price of 2000 Yuan. Then in September, the <a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/2016/06/28/huawei-wont-release-mate-9-september-reveals-company-manager/">Huawei Mate series gets a new baby tagged Mate S2 </a>which is expected to carry of between 4000 &#8211; 5000 Yuan. These two heavyweights are expected to further boost Huawei&#8217;s smartphone sales for the remaining part of the year.</p>
<p>There had been news reports that Huawei plans to <a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/2016/06/22/huawei-sales-target-2016-reduced-120-million-says-supply-chain/">scale down its 2016 phones shipment goal to 120 million</a> but then it turned out the news were mere rumors. The Chinese phone giant has since debunked that report as false.</p>
<p>According to Richard Yu, Chief executive of Huawei&#8217;s consumer business group in a TV interview at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, the smartphone giant still targets 140 million phone shipments this 2016, an ambitious figure which would see the company&#8217;s growth jump over 30%.</p>

Today, Huawei officially announced the Huawei P9 and the P9 Plus smartphones at an event in London. We have been bombarded with numerous leaks about the device in the past two months, and now, finally, we have some official details. As expected, the Huawei P9 series phones will be the first smartphone developed in partnership with Leica.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-78462" src="http://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/04/Huawei-P9-001.jpg?x10805" alt="Huawei-P9 001" width="1502" height="536" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/04/Huawei-P9-001.jpg 1502w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/04/Huawei-P9-001-300x107.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/04/Huawei-P9-001-768x274.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/04/Huawei-P9-001-1024x365.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/04/Huawei-P9-001-600x214.jpg 600w" sizes="(max-width: 1502px) 100vw, 1502px" /></p>
<h3><span style="text-decoration: underline; color: #0000ff;"><strong>HUAWEI P9</strong></span></h3>
<p>The Huawei P9 comes with a 5.2-inch 1080p display with 2.5D glass on top. The bezels are super thin, measuring just 1.7mm. Under the hood, the phone will be powered by the Kirin 955 chipset that features quad Cortex A72 cores @ 2.5GHz and quad Cortex A53 cores @ 1.8GHz. There are two variants of the device, one with 3GB RAM  + 32GB storage and other with 4GB RAM + 64GB storage. The storages are expandable via MicroSD.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter wp-image-78463" src="http://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/04/Huawei-P9-01.jpg?x10805" alt="Huawei-P9 01" width="679" height="869" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/04/Huawei-P9-01.jpg 1500w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/04/Huawei-P9-01-234x300.jpg 234w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/04/Huawei-P9-01-768x983.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/04/Huawei-P9-01-800x1024.jpg 800w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/04/Huawei-P9-01-600x768.jpg 600w" sizes="(max-width: 679px) 100vw, 679px" /></p>
<p>Now, coming to the most interesting part of the device. The P9 will feature two 12MP sensors at the back. One will be a monochrome camera while the other will be an RGB color sensor. The former sensor will aid the phone to take more accurate shots along with black and white pictures. These two will work together for taking some great shots. Up front, there will be an 8MP shooter ideal for selfies.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-78459" src="http://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/04/Huawei-P9-dual-cameras.jpg?x10805" alt="Huawei-P9 dual cameras" width="1920" height="640" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/04/Huawei-P9-dual-cameras.jpg 1920w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/04/Huawei-P9-dual-cameras-300x100.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/04/Huawei-P9-dual-cameras-768x256.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/04/Huawei-P9-dual-cameras-1024x341.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/04/Huawei-P9-dual-cameras-600x200.jpg 600w" sizes="(max-width: 1920px) 100vw, 1920px" /></p>
<p>The Huawei P9 comes with a 3000mAh battery on board, packed inside a slim 6.95mm body. The company has done a wonderful job with the all metal design, keeping it slim and lightweight. The phone just weighs 144 grams. The 360 degrees fingerprint sensor is located at the back. As for software, the phone runs on Android 6.0 with EMUI 4.1 on top. Other features on the P9 include stereo speakers and USB Type-C.</p>
<p>These are pretty powerful specs and in line with what we heard from the leaks before. Coming to the pricing, the Huawei P9 3GB RAM version starts at 599 EUR ($681) and the 4GB RAM version will retail at 649 EUR ($739). There are lots of colors available like Ceramic White, Haze Gold, Rose Gold, Titanium Silver, Mystic Silver and Prestige Gold.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<h3><span style="text-decoration: underline; color: #0000ff;"><strong>HUAWEI P9 Plus</strong></span></h3>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-78464" src="http://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/04/Huawei-P9-plus.jpg?x10805" alt="Huawei-P9 plus" width="1200" height="876" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/04/Huawei-P9-plus.jpg 1200w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/04/Huawei-P9-plus-300x219.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/04/Huawei-P9-plus-768x561.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/04/Huawei-P9-plus-1024x748.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/04/Huawei-P9-plus-600x438.jpg 600w" sizes="(max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px" /></p>
<p>This will be a better-specced version of the Huawei P9, with a larger display and juicier battery. The Huawei P9 Plus comes with a 5.5-inch 1080p display. The phone has the same Kirin 955 chipset under the hood with 4GB RAM and 64GB storage option as standard. The storage will be expandable. At the back, the phone comes with the same 12MP Dual camera setup as the P9 with an 8MP front facing shooter as well. The battery is larger, measuring 3400mAh and for software, you have Android 6.0 with EMUI 4.1 like the P9. Pricing is naturally higher, more than $100 higher than the top end P9 variant. So, the Huawei P9 Plus will retail at around $850.</p>
<p>The company plans to release the device in a lot of regions including Austria, Bahrain, Belgium, China, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Poland, Qatar, United Kingdom, Czech Republic, Egypt, Denmark, Germany, Greece, Hungary etc.</p>

It&#8217;s really going to be a large family, considering that it is said there are at least four different variants in the lineup, starting with the Standard and Lite editions, to the top-end Huawei P9 Max and Plus variants. Today, we have got some new information about these high-end powerful variants.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-74059" src="http://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/Huaewi-P9-leak-01.jpg?x10805" alt="new leak vs old leak" width="930" height="407" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/Huaewi-P9-leak-01.jpg 930w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/Huaewi-P9-leak-01-300x131.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/Huaewi-P9-leak-01-600x263.jpg 600w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/Huaewi-P9-leak-01-640x280.jpg 640w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/Huaewi-P9-leak-01-681x298.jpg 681w" sizes="(max-width: 930px) 100vw, 930px" /></p>
<p>Latest reports suggest that the Huawei P9 Max and P9 Plus smartphone will have the same specifications as revealed in the <a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/2016/03/30/huawei-p9-kirin-955-4gb-ram-scores-96k-antutu/">AnTuTu listing yesterday</a>. However, the biggest different between the two will be in screen size. The P9 Plus is expected to come with a<strong> 5.2-inch</strong> 1080p display, much like the other variants, however, the P9 Max will be the biggest in the lot with a massive<strong> 6.8-inch display</strong>. Given the large screen size, the display will sport a <strong>resolution of 2K.</strong></p>
<p>Another highlight of the Max version will be the presence of<strong> pressure sensitive display</strong>. Huawei has a couple of phones with Force Touch displays, so it won&#8217;t be a surprise. Other features of the Max include <strong>dual cameras with Leica lens.</strong></p>
<p>Now, coming to the pricing of the P9 Max, it is said that the phone will retail for a whopping<strong> 4088 Yuan </strong>($633) while the P9 Plus should retail for<strong> 3688 Yuan ($570)</strong>. The P9 Standard edition will retail for <strong>3088 Yuan </strong>($477) while the P9 Lite at <strong>1888 Yuan ($292)</strong>.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-77689" src="http://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/9eb1b839jw1f2f08x3eorj20go0qe0ua.jpg?x10805" alt="huawei p9 antutu" width="600" height="950" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/9eb1b839jw1f2f08x3eorj20go0qe0ua.jpg 600w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/9eb1b839jw1f2f08x3eorj20go0qe0ua-189x300.jpg 189w" sizes="(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px" /></p>
<p>To recap, yesterday&#8217;s AnTuTu listing revealed powerful hardware inside the P9 Max and Plus models. The phone will come with Kirin 955 chip (upgraded version of Kirin 950) with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. there will be 13MP dual rear cameras with an 8MP front facing shooter. The phone was running on the new Android 6.0 Marshmallow platform.</p>
<p>The Huawei P9 launch event is exactly a week away. So stay tuned for more details.</p>
