Honor has started rolling out the MagicOS 9.0.0.182 update for its Magic 7 series smartphones in China. The OTA package is approximately 1.57GB in size and brings a mix of camera upgrades, AI tools, system enhancements, and expanded cross-device compatibility.

What’s new in this update?

The camera app now features a film simulation mode that replicates analog film aesthetics, offering six preset styles via the rear portrait mode. It also adds new watermark options like “White Full Frame,” “Black Full Frame,” and “Film Border,” which can be updated online through the camera settings

The gallery gains a Smart Cutout feature that uses AI to isolate subjects in photos, allowing them to be repositioned against alternate backgrounds. This tool is accessible through Magic Retouch under AI Edit.

The update has also introduced an AI Writing Assistant under the Honor AI & YOYO settings to enhance productivity. This tool supports text summarization, rewriting, translation, and length adjustments. To use it, users must update the Honor AI Basic Services.

Honor has improved the system experience by enabling users to set dynamic photos from the gallery as lockscreen wallpapers. It has introduced a new keyboard lift feature that simplifies switching between voice input and text typing. Additionally, the update places a standalone AI Translate app icon directly on the home screen for easier access.

Honor Share now supports cross-brand file transfers with Oppo, Vivo, Xiaomi, and other devices, as long as both ends have file sharing enabled. The system also supports importing notes and contacts from iPhones and iPads, thanks to Honor’s participation in the Cross-Platform Transfer Alliance.

Honor CarLink adds support for QQ Music and video platforms, including Bilibili, iQIYI, Youku, and Honor Video. The update also addresses audio stutter and silent playback issues. The MagicOS 9.0.0.182 update includes the July 2025 Android security patch.

In related news, Honor recently launched the Pad GT 2 Pro, featuring a 165Hz 3K OLED display and Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip. The company also introduced the Earbuds A Pro with 49dB ANC and up to 42 hours of battery life, priced at just $20.

Earlier today, Honor announced MagicOS 8.0 in China. The latest version of the brand’s mobile operating system is filled with AI features.

The software will debut on the Magic 6 series, which is scheduled to launch tomorrow (January 11). Unsurprisingly, it will be also available for several older devices.

At the end of the presentation, Honor revealed the list of smartphones that are eligible for the MagicOS 8.0 update. Let’s go through it.

The MagicOS 8.0 open beta program will begin in January itself. Magic 5 and Magic 4 phones will be the first to get the beta builds.

The beta initiative will run until May.  The affordable Honor X50 series handsets will be the last models to receive beta firmware.

As scheduled, Honor took wraps off the latest version of its mobile operating system — MagicOS 8.0, in China. The OS arrives with platform-level AI and intent-based user interface (IUI).

The brand also announced MagicLM, a proprietary on-device large language model. George Zhao, CEO of Honor, says that the company’s new software is a significant step towards bringing next-generation human-device interaction and ecosystem to users.

MagicOS 8.0 brings improvements in four areas: smart connectivity, performance, privacy and security, and visual aesthetics

Magic Portal is the branding Honor is using for its intent-based user interface. In simpler words, it is a shortcut recommendation feature that lets users switch between app services with just a swipe.

At launch, Magic Portal already supports over 100 popular apps in China. These applications are spread across categories, like travel, productivity, social, search, entertainment, shopping, and food. Some of the most-used apps include Baidu Map, Amap, Didi, Bilibili, Douyin, Youku, and Alipay.

Further, MagicLM with seven billion parameters operates at a platform level with data processing on the device for enhanced privacy. Honor has partnered with Qualcomm to run it smoothly and efficiently on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 mobile platform.

Apart from standard natural language understanding capabilities, MagicLM is also capable of generating videos and is the first in the industry to allow users to locate a specific frame in their videos. It is also integrated with the voice assistant YOYO.

Besides, Honor launched an LLM Ecosystem Program in China. This initiative promotes the integration of cloud-based and vertical AI models into MagicOS. Partners, such as Amap, Baidu, and Umetrip, will launch their experiences in the first half of 2024.

MagicRing, which was introduced in MagicOS 7.0 enables cross-device functionalities. The feature now supports connections from point-to-point networks to fully connected networks.

It is now 25% more power-efficient with a whopping 500% improvement in speed. It supports eight transmission channels to allow calls, notifications, keyboard and mouse, files, app windows, and photos to seamlessly flow across devices.

As for privacy, MagicOS 8.0 comes with system-wide Parallel Spaces. Users can move files to private space through Magic Portal. A new shake-to-block ads feature helps in eliminating intrusive pop-up ads. Lastly, all AI processing of personal data happens securely on the device.

MagicOS 8.0 will make its debut on the Honor Magic 6 series tomorrow (January 11). It will be rolled out to a plethora of devices in the coming days.

Honor is rolling out a new system update for the Honor Magic 4 and Honor Magic 5 series of smartphones in China. The latest software update for the handsets brings along several quality-of-life features.

Additionally, the new firmware build bumps up the security patch level. Despite being almost similar, this update arrives with different build numbers for both lineups.

According to ITHome, the new software update for Honor flagship smartphones comes with the following build numbers.

• Honor Magic 4 Series – MagicOS 7.0.0.170
• Honor Magic 5 Series – MagicOS 7.1.0.183

These firmware builds weigh 803MB and 579MB, respectively.

The official changelog mentions six important things included with this update. First and foremost, the update increases the security patch level to November 2023.

Further, the update introduces  ‘Pure Status Bar’. This mode only shows time, WiFi, network, and battery level.

Then, the update adds YOYO suggestion switch and automatic brightness button in the Control Center. It also enables double-clicking the volume down button in the locked state to turn on/off the flashlight.

Floating window feature adds support for more applications. Finally, the Gallery app gets custom album cover and password lock functions for hidden albums.

Like any other OTA system update, this one too is being rolled out in batches. Therefore, some users may receive it earlier while others might have to wait.

We are not sure if and when these features will be available outside mainland China. They will likely reach in some capacity in the near future.

Honor has recently released an exciting MagicOS system update, version 7.1.0.162 (C00E128R6P5), for its popular Magic5 series phones. The update introduces some noteworthy features and optimizations that enhance the user experience.

What’s new in this update?

One of the key additions is the Mini Window mode, which allows users to access certain apps in a compact floating window. This can be activated by swiping up from the bottom or dragging the top handle of the floating window to the upper left or right corner of the screen. To enable this feature, users can navigate to “Settings > Accessibility > Smart Multi-Window > Mini Window.”

Another improvement is the switch for WeChat video beauty during calls. Now, users can easily toggle the beauty effect on or off by swiping down the notification bar.

The update also brings enhancements to the camera’s photo-taking effects for specific scenarios, as well as improvements to the display effects of the Control Center in certain situations. The audio playback effects have been boosted for better performance, and the multitasking swipe experience has been optimized to provide a smoother experience.

Honor Magic5 series specs overview

HONOR Magic5 series has three models: Honor Magic5, Honor Magic5 Pro, and Honor Magic5 Ultimate Edition. Honor Magic5 features a 6.73-inch FHD+ display while the Pro and Ultimate feature a 6.81-inch FHD+ quad-curved OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate. All three models are powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset with Adreno 740 GPU.

The Magic5 Pro boasts a 50MP quad-camera setup and a 12MP front camera with 3D depth support. It also features IP68 water and dust resistance and has a 5100mAh battery with 66W wired and 50W wireless Honor SuperCharge support.

The Magic5 Ultimate Edition, on the other hand, comes with a nano-ceramic curved glass on the front for enhanced drop resistance. The Ultimate Edition has a leather back, a larger 5450mAh battery, and supports 66W wired and 50W wireless Honor SuperCharge.

All three models run on Magic UI 7.1 based on Android 13 and support 5G connectivity, Dual 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, and NFC. The Magic5 Pro and Ultimate Edition are equipped with a self-developed C1 RF enhancement chip for improved mobile reception and Wi-Fi speeds.

Honor has just revealed the timeline for the roll out of the MagicOS 7 update. The company has even put out the list for the supported devices, which will be eligible for the Android 12 OS based update that is coming out soon. So let’s have a look at the list.

Starting with the devices that will receive the update first, the Chinese smartphone maker will be bringing the MagicOS 7 to five models first. In other words, the smartphones to receive the Android 12 update first are the Magic V foldable phone, Magic 3, Magic 3 Pro, and the Honor V40 model. The major software upgrade for these models will be rolling out sometime in the month of December 2022. Following this, the brand will also be bring the update to the Magic 4 series of smartphones in the month of January 2023, which includes the Magic 4, Magic 4 Pro, and the Magic 4 Ultimate.

The month of February will be bringing the MagicOS 7 update for the Honor 70 series of smartphones. Meaning, the base 70, the 70 Pro, and the 70 Pro+ model will be getting the major software update in the second month of 2023. Moving forward, the month of March 2023 will have the Honor 60 and 60 Pro, and the Honor 50 and 50 Pro will be eligible for this update as well. Honor is holding a major launch event for its highly anticipated Honor 80 series of affordable flagship smartphones in China on November 23th (Wednesday). These premium devices are successors to the Honor 70 series released earlier this year, and are leaked to consist of 3 models: the Honor 80 Pro, the Honor 80 SE and the standard Honor 80.

Here at Gizmochina, our writers have rounded up all the official teasers and rumours in this simple article that you should know about the upcoming Honor 80 series.

Honor 80 Pro

The Honor 80 Pro Plus will be the company’s first flagship to feature Qualcomm’s highly regarded Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 mobile SoC. Built on TSMC 4nm fabrication process, the chipset promises up to 30% better performance, and up to 30% better power efficiency than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 on Samsung 4nm node last year. The SoC also brings support for 5G, WiFi 6E, as well as a stunning ISP for those amazing stills and videos.

Besides the fast SoC, the device is also said to support fast charging via a 100W wired connection, alongside a 5000 mAh battery. The device will also flaunt the industry’s first 160MP primary sensor among its flagship triple camera setup. The camera island will feature a prominent ‘8’ around the sides to signify that the device is Honor’s 8th generation of its flagship killer series.

Meanwhile, the front of Honor 80 Pro is a curved 120Hz AMOLED screen with a resolution of 1.5K for better power efficiency, and a centred pill-shaped cutout at the top of the screen, featuring a set dual front-facing 50MP selfie cameras.

The device will launch with Honor’s latest MagicOS user interface, with up to 12GB of RAM, and 512GB of internal storage. It is expected to launch from under 4500 RMB (632 USD) onwards.

Honor 80

The standard Honor 80 meanwhile will also sport the same curved 120Hz AMOLED screen design as its more premium sibling, with more midrange internals inside the device.

The Honor 80 will instead sport Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 782G SoC, with support for only 66W fast wired charging. It is rumoured to be available with up to 12GB of RAM and 512GB of internal storage, and a rear Sony flagship primary sensor instead of the 160MP Samsung sensor found on the Pro. The front camera setup remains unknown, but it is expected to feature the same 50MP dual selfie lens like its Pro sibling.

The pricing of the Honor 80 is expected to start under 3000 RMB (422 USD) onwards.

Honor 80 SE
The most affordable bunch of the Honor 80 series is the Honor 80 SE. It will feature the recently announced Dimensity 1080 SoC found on other competing mid-rangers such as the Redmi Note 12 Pro and Realme 10 Pro+.

The device will come with up to 12GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage, alongside support for 66W wired fast charging. The front display will be flat a 120Hz AMOLED display, but its front camera specifications and rear camera setup are yet to be known. The design also not been teased nor announced by Honor at the time of writing this article.

The pricing of the Honor 80 SE is expected to start from 1700 RMB (239 USD) onwards.

The company officially announced the launch date of the Honor Magicbook 14 2022 on its official Chinese social media account on Weibo. Honor explicitly teased that the device will be featuring exceptional endurance, as from the marketing, the company claims that the Honor Magicbook 14 has up to 20 hours of battery life on a single charge, which is quite bold considering the only other company that claims 20 hours of battery life is Apple with their M1 powered Macbooks.

This exceptional battery performance Honor claims to be the work of its new MagicOS for Windows which includes a new feature called “OS Turbo”. Under the assistance of OS Turbo, Honor notebooks are now better optimised for power efficiency. The company claims that the latest Honor Magicbook 14 2022 can reduce power consumption by up to 2X% with the optimisation features of OS Turbo.

As for the hardware packing under the Honor Magicbook 14 2022, ITHome reports that the Honor Magicbook 14 2022 will be sporting Intel’s latest 12th Gen Core i5 and i7 processors, with an optional dedicated graphics card from Nvidia which could be either the Nvidia MX550 GPU or the Nvidia RTX 2050 GPU depending on your preferred setup during checkout.
