The official community post says that the initial rollout is only a part of the first batch, meaning more batches will be following soon. If you haven’t received a notification for the update, then you may need to wait a while. Just make sure you’re on firmware version C.42/C.43/C.44 on the Reno4/Reno4 Pro beforehand, though.

And now that the Indian and Indonesian variants of the devices in question are getting it, it’s safe to assume that other regions will be following soon.

To check for the latest available update on your Reno4 or Reno4 Pro, head over to Settings > Software update. If you aren’t on the latest ColorOS 11 build, then you may not get the ColorOS 12 notification so might want to ensure that first.

ColorOS 12 is based on Android 12 and arrives with a bunch of new features plus improvements. Elements throughout the interface have been tweaked visually, be it icons, the quick settings panel, or system apps. You also get some of those enhanced A12 privacy features such as the new Privacy Dashboard and microphone and camera Indicators.

The OPPO Reno4 and Reno4 Pro were launched back in July 2020 with Android 10 and the ColorOS 12 is likely the very last major update for the duo. OPPO may continue sending out security updates for some time, though.

While the Reno4 Pro is an upper-midrange phone in terms of hardware, with the Reno5 Pro the company decided to go beyond the midrange segment and offer higher performance. But the OPPO Reno5 Pro 5G is not a better phone than Reno4 Pro 5G from every point of view and a lot of people might be confused while evaluating the specifications of these two phones. Which one is the best and for which kind of users? This comparison will highlight the differences between the specifications of the latest Pro variants from the Reno series.

Design

OPPO improved the design with the Reno5 Pro 5G. At a first glance, the two phones might seem identical, but the OPPO Reno5 Pro 5G offers a lot more thanks to its prismatic pattern and fluorescent parts glowing in the dark. The Reno Glow color variants are definitely impressive. However, there are no huge differences if we exclude the colors and the light effects provided by the phones. Despite the OPPO Reno5 Pro 5G packs a bigger battery, it has almost the same dimensions as its predecessor: it is as thin as the Reno4 Pro 5G and even the weight is the same. Both the phones are built with a glass back and an aluminum frame, and they both have a curved screen at the edges and a punch-hole design.

Display

The presence of the HDR10+ certification on the OPPO Reno4 Pro 5G is very interesting, but the OPPO Reno5 Pro 5G provides a higher brightness. However, there are just marginal differences between the displays of these two handsets. Both feature an in-display fingerprint scanner and the same 6.55-inch display size, as well as the same Full HD+ resolution with 1080 x 2400 pixels. We recommend not to give so much importance to the display and go ahead by evaluating the other specifications of these handsets.

Specs & Software

Here is where you can find the most important difference: the chipset. The OPPO Reno4 Pro 5G is powered by the Snapdragon 765G mobile platform which is actually a mid-range SoC. The OPPO Reno5 Pro 5G offers a flagship-class processor: the Dimensity 1000+, actually the best chipset released by MediaTek. The memory configurations are exactly the same: there is one with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal storage, and one with 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage. But the software out of the box changes: OPPO Reno4 Pro 5G is based on Android 10 customized by ColorOS 7.2, while OPPO Reno5 Pro 5G runs Android 11 with ColorOS 11.

Camera

OPPO Reno4 Pro 5G is actually a way better camera phone than OPPO Reno5 Pro 5G. The Reno5 Pro 5G has a midrange-class camera department including a 64 MP main sensor, an 8 MP ultrawide lens, and a pair of 2 MP sensors for macros and depth calculation. With the OPPO Reno4 Pro 5G, you get a 48 MP main sensor with OIS (the Sony IMX586), a 13 MP telephoto sensor with 2x optical zoom, and a 12 MP ultrawide camera which also works as a dedicated video camera. The front cameras are exactly the same: two 32 MP sensors with f/2.4 focal aperture. So, despite it is an older phone, the OPPO Reno4 Pro 5G is a better camera phone. And it is even one of the best camera phones in the market, especially for those who want to record very nice videos.

Battery

The battery capacity is the weakest point of the OPPO Reno4 Pro 5G: it has just 4000 mAh. The OPPO Reno5 Pro 5G has a bigger 4350 mAh battery providing a way longer battery life. Both the phones support 65W SuperVOOC 2.0 fast charging technology allowing them to fully-charge with blazing speeds. You need just 36 minutes to charge the OPPO Reno4 Pro 5G from 0 to 100 percent, and just a few minutes more for the Reno5 Pro 5G. Further, the Reno5 Pro 5G features reverse charging.

Price

The OPPO Reno5 Pro 5G launched in the Chinese market with a starting price of about €430/$525: it is still not available in the global market. The listing price of the OPPO Reno4 Pro 5G for the global market is €799/$975 for the 12/256 GB configuration. If you need the best camera department, you should definitely go for the OPPO Reno4 Pro 5G offering OIS and better secondary sensors for the main camera department. But for the rest of the specifications, the Reno5 Pro 5G is the winner: it has better hardware and even a bigger battery. The designs are similar and so are the displays, but the Reno5 Pro is slightly better even from these points of view. I would personally go for the OPPO Reno5 Pro 5G.

Is it actually better than the latest upper-midrange phones and flagship killers released by other top manufacturers in the global market? In order to let you find out, we decided to publish a specs comparison between Vivo X51 5G and its BBK rivals which went global in the last period: OPPO Reno4 Pro 5G and OnePlus 8T.

Design

The Vivo X51 5G has a stunning design, but the OPPO Reno4 Pro 5G is actually more stylish. It is a thinner and lighter phone, it has a more invisible camera module, elegant color variants (including the limited Green Glitter version), a curved screen and very narrow bezels around the display: it is one of the sleekest phones of the year. Right after, we got the Vivo X51 5G with its curved display and a still thin and lightweight body. OnePlus 8T lacks a curved screen and it is definitely less elegant than its two rivals.

Display

While Vivo X51 5G and OPPO Reno 4 Pro 5G come with more attractive aesthetics, the OnePlus 8T has a better display. It is not a top-tier display like the one found on the OnePlus 8 Pro, but it is still amazing with its high 120 Hz refresh rate (OPPO Reno4 Pro 5G and Vivo X51 5G stop at 90 Hz) and the HDR10+ certification. The Vivo X51 5G and the OPPO Reno4 Pro 5G are more or less at the same level when it comes to the display, but OPPO Reno4 Pro 5G mounts stereo speakers, while the audio of the Vivo X51 5G is mono. In each case, you get an AMOLED panel with an in-display fingerprint reader.

Hardware/Software

The OnePlus 8T is the winner of the hardware comparison and one of the most powerful flagship killers in the market. It is powered by the Snapdragon 865 mobile platform which is currently one of the best flagship chipsets out there, while Vivo X51 5G and OPPO Reno4 Pro 5G are fueled by the upper-midrange Snapdragon 765G mobile platform. All the phone feature memory configuration up to 12/256 GB, but the OnePlus 8T has a faster UFS 3.1 internal storage, while OPPO Reno4 Pro 5G and Vivo X51 5G have UFS 2.1 memories. Last but not least, the OnePlus 8T runs Android 11 out of the box, while Vivo X51 5G and OPPO Reno4 Pro 5G are still based on Android 10.

Camera

OnePlus 8T loses the camera comparison and, while it retains pretty nice camera capabilities, we do not consider it a high-end camera phone. It is a hard fight between Vivo X51 5G and OPPO Reno4 Pro 5G, at least on paper. The Vivo X51 5G has better zoom capabilities (up to 5x optical zoom!) and a very nice portrait lens, and it should also offer better stabilization (thanks to gimbal OIS). The OPPO Reno4 Pro 5G seems to offer better video recording capabilities thanks to its 12 MP dedicated ultrawide video camera.

Battery

OnePlus 8T has the fastest charging technology, but it is not said that it will last more than Vivo X51 5G in every scenario because it has a less efficient display and an external 5G modem, unlike the Vivo handset. OPPO Reno4 Pro 5G has a smaller battery than its rivals but it charges faster thanks to its 65W SuperVOOC technology. OnePlus 8T supports 65W fast charging as well, but due to its bigger battery, it needs more time to fully charge.

Price

Vivo X51 5G and OPPO Reno4 Pro 5G are priced at €799/$947 globally (12/256 GB), while OnePlus 8T starts from €599/$710 (8/128 GB). There is no definitive winner in this comparison: if you are looking for higher performance and a more interesting display, go for the OnePlus 8T. If you want the best design, stereo speakers, and faster charging, get OPPO Reno4 Pro 5G. Both OPPO Reno4 Pro 5G and Vivo X51 5G are amazing camera phones: with Vivo X51 5G you get a bigger battery than OPPO Reno4 Pro, but it lacks stereo speakers and it has slower charging speeds (33W).

Now, the smartphone is officially available for purchase.

The OPPO Reno4 Pro Artist Limited Edition is priced at 4,299 yuan, which roughly converts to $622 for the 12GB RAM + 256GB storage model. The phone can be purchased through the company’s official online store.

The internals of this limited edition variant remains the same as the original model and the only difference is the new paint job with engraved art. It is designed by James Jean, a Taiwanese-American artist known for his cover art for Marvel Comics and DC Comics.

For the Reno4 Pro, he created art depicting “Summer Carnival of Dreams” with mystical creatures like unicorns. This painting is etched on the phone’s rear AG glass with a “SoleLuna” logo at the center as it was the name of this project. The smartphone also ships with two dedicated themes based on this painting.

But it is a totally different device from the Reno4 Pro we saw in the Chinese market. That is why the previous comparisons we made which include the Reno4 Pro do not make any sense for the Indian market. If you are from India and from other markets in which the handset will be released, you might find a comparison between the Reno4 Pro and the other best value for money phones very useful. At least if you are looking for a new mid-ranger. That is why we decided to compare the OPPO Reno4 Pro with the OnePlus Nord and the Realme X3 SuperZoom.

Design

At first glance, there is no doubt about the fact that with Oppo Reno4 Pro you get the most stunning design. First of all, it has a more impressive look, with a higher screen-to-body ratio and curved edges, as well as a single punch hole. Further, it is the thinnest and the most lightweight smartphone of this trio. Unfortunately, it does not come with a premium glass back but it is made of plastic. Both Realme X3 SuperZoom and OnePlus Nord have a glass back, despite they look less gorgeous in terms of aesthetics. Do you prefer having premium materials or a thinner and more lightweight phone?

Display

OnePlus Nord and Oppo Reno4 Pro offer the best displays and they are more or less at the same level when it comes to the display quality. They pack a Full HD+ AMOLED panel including a 90 Hz refresh rate and HDR10 (OnePlus Nord gets HDR10+). Realme X3 SuperZoom has an even higher refresh rate (120 Hz), but it comes with a classic IPS panel and the image quality is inferior. That is why we would go either for the Oppo Reno4 Pro or the OnePlus Nord.

Hardware/Software

The most powerful hardware department belongs to the Realme X3 SuperZoom which is the only one to have flagship-class hardware. It is powered by the Snapdragon 855+ mobile platform (it was the best Qualcomm’s flagship SoC in 2019), it packs up to 12 GB of RAM and up to 256 GB of UFS 3.0 internal storage. But despite its flagship hardware, it lacks 5G connectivity. OnePlus Nord is less powerful, but it supports 5G. That is why some people may prefer it despite its inferior processor. Oppo Reno4 Pro lacks both 5G and a flagship chipset.

Camera

OnePlus Nord wins the camera comparison with a 48 MP quad-camera supporting OIS, an 8 MP ultrawide sensor, a 5 MP macro lens, and a 2 MP depth sensor. Further, it packs an ultrawide front camera including a 32 MP main sensor and an 8 MP ultrawide lens. It is the most complete camera department. But Oppo Reno4 Pro is still a pretty nice camera phone with its bright focal aperture and its Sony main sensor. Realme X3 SuperZoom has an inferior main sensor, but it has the best zoom capabilities thanks to the 8 MP periscope lens with 5x optical zoom. Oppo Reno4 Pro and OnePlus Nord do not even have a telephoto sensor. Just like the OnePlus Nord, the Realme X3 SuperZoom has a 32 MP dual ultrawide front camera.

Battery

There should be only marginal differences between the battery life of these phones. Unfortunately, we had no chance to test all the batteries; judging from the specs on the paper, OnePlus Nord has higher potentialities. But Oppo Reno4 Pro has the fastest charging technology and it can fill its battery in just 36 minutes with its 65W SuperVOOC 2.0 technology.

Price

Oppo Reno4 Pro starts from Rs. 34,990 ($467) in India, the price of the Realme X3 SuperZoom is Rs. 27,999 ($374), and OnePlus Nord costs Rs. 24,999 ($333). The OnePlus Nord looks like the most complete device with its great cameras, 5G, good battery, and a very nice display. Realme X3 SuperZoom wins the performance comparison and it is definitely the best one for gamers. The Oppo Reno4 Pro sits in the middle with a better design and faster charging technology, as well as a good camera department.

OPPO Reno4 Pro Indian Variant Design

OPPO has, unsurprisingly, stripped off 5G from the Indian variant, but that makes it extremely lightweight. The OPPO Reno4 Pro is one of the lightest smartphones launched in 2020, weighing just over 160 grams. So the global Reno4 Pro is the lightest smartphone in the entire Reno series so far. The phone is exceptionally thin too, measuring just 7.7mm (160.2mmx73.2mmx7.7mm). These dimensions along with a curved body will ensure that the Reno4 Pro has an extremely comfortable grip.

Here is our review video:

The Reno4 Pro Indian variant comes with a single punch hole camera on top of its 3D curved display. There are four cameras at the back (one sensor more than the Chinese Reno4 Pro). The phone comes in two colors at launch, Starry Night and Silky White. If you remember, the Chinese variant had some fancy gradient colors in Red and Blue finishes. There was a special Pantone Green Glitter variant too. So it’s a shame that the Reno4 Pro in India sticks to the basic Black and White color options.

OPPO Reno4 Pro Indian Variant Hardware

The OPPO Reno4 Pro in India comes with a 6.5-inch FHD+ E3 Super AMOLED display. E3 here refers to a kind of material that produces the lights on the screen. As compared to earlier generations of E1 and E2, E3 screens are brighter, more power-efficient, and produce less blue light. They support a peak brightness of 800 nits, with a 7% improvement in power efficiency. It can also block 42% more blue light.

The 6.5-inch display features 3D curved glass on top (officially marketed as the 3D Borderless Sense Screen) with a screen curvature of 55.9 degrees. The panel supports 90Hz refresh rate and up to 180Hz touch sampling rate. The screen should do pretty well under direct sunlight too as it brightens to as much as 800 nits, with a peak partial brightness as high as 1100 nits. The display gets TÜV Rhineland Full Care Display Certification and OPPO confirms that the phone is certified for Widevine L1, so streaming HD videos on Netflix or Amazon Prime shouldn’t be a worry.

Under the hood, the OPPO Reno4 Pro Indian variant comes with Snapdragon 720G. This is where things get a little disappointing, especially considering how the Chinese variant features Snapdragon 765G. The 720G chip is no slouch, but for a phone that’s priced well over Rs. 30,000, this chip might feel a bit underpowered. You also get 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage onboard.

The phone comes with an in-display fingerprint sensor and runs on Color 7.2 based on Android 10.

OPPO Reno4 Pro India Variant Cameras

The camera setup on the new OPPO model in India is a bit different than the one on the Chinese model.

The phone’s camera setup is as follows:

48MP Main Camera, IMX586, 1/2″, F/1.7

8MP Ultra-Wide Angle Camera, 1/4″, F/2.2

2MP Macro Camera, 1/5″, F/2.4

2MP Mono Camera, 1/5″, F/2.4

So you get four cameras in total with a Macro and a Mono camera. Unfortunately, there’s no telephoto shooter that was found on the Chinese variant.

On paper, the Reno4 Pro’s camera setup looks average, but the company has added a bunch of creative features to make your photography experience interesting. The phone features the new Ultra Steady Video 3.0 for shake-free videos on both front and back cameras, Monochrome AI video mode, and AI Color Portrait Video and Photo modes which keeps the subject in color on a black and white background. Other features include the Ultra Night Selfie Mode, Ultra Dark Photo Mode (when lighting is lower than 1 lux), Night Flare Mode, and a 108MP mode.

Up front, you get a 32MP selfie camera inside a single punch hole on the top left corner.

OPPO Reno4 Pro India Variant Battery

Charging is one of the biggest highlights of the new OPPO model. The phone comes with the super-fast 65W SuperVOOC 2.0 that charges its 4000mAh battery to 100% in just 36 minutes.

Despite the announcement of OPPO’s 125W flash charging technology, we don’t have a commercial phone using the technology yet. So SuperVOOC 2.0 is still one of the fastest charging technologies available in the market right now.

The Realme X3 is the most affordable 2020 handset to offer all the power of the Snapdragon 855+ mobile platform. Oppo Reno4 Pro is an incredible 5G phone when it comes to the camera department, and it can compete with top camera phones despite it is not priced above 1,000$. Honor Play4 Pro is an incredibly cheap gaming phone with a flagship-class camera department at 1/3 of the price of the most expensive flagships. This comparison will clear your ideas about all the specifications of these three handsets.

Design

If you desire a premium design that has nothing to envy to the most beautiful flagships out there, go for the Oppo Reno4 Pro 5G. It has a sturdy glass back protected by Gorilla Glass 6 and an aluminum frame. It is one of the lightest and thinnest last-generation phones. And it even has a very high screen-to-body ratio, with a punch-hole display and extremely narrow bezels. It is one of the most attractive phones in terms of aesthetics. In order to offer a flagship-grade hardware department, Honor Play4 Pro and Realme X3 come with cheaper materials. The Honor Play4 Pro has a gaming-centric design, while Realme X3 is more elegant.

Display

Even if we talk about displays, Oppo Reno4 Pro 5G wins the comparison. Unlike its two opponents, it has an AMOLED panel instead of an IPS one. It has a 90 Hz refresh rate, a high brightness, and the HDR10+ standard to improve the image quality. The second place goes to the Realme X3: it has a Full HD+ IPS panel like the Honor Play4 Pro, but it comes with a high 120 Hz refresh rate, the highest of this trio. It also sports a slightly wider panel.

Hardware/Software

The highest level of performance is provided by the Realme X3 since it packs a more powerful Snapdragon 855+ paired with up to 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of UFS 3.0 storage. It is faster, better for gaming and multi-tasking. Right after, we got the Honor Play4 Pro which is still a flagship phone when it comes to hardware, but its Kirin 990 is inferior to the Snapdragon 855+. Oppo Reno4 Pro 5G has an upper-midrange hardware side since it is fueled by the Snapdragon 765G mobile platform, but it is the only to support 5G connectivity. Android 10 is out of the box like almost every device launched in this period.

Camera

While Realme X3 and Honor Play4 Pro are just midrange camera phones, the Oppo Reno4 Pro 5G is a real high-end camera phone. It is equipped with a rear triple camera including a 48 MP f/1.7 main sensor with OIS, a 13 MP telephoto lens with 2x optical zoom, and a 12 MP ultrawide sensor which can also be used as a dedicated video camera. The stabilization is amazing in both photos and videos. Even the front camera is impressive with its 32 MP resolution. Honor Play4 Pro is still an above-average camera phone with its 40 MP main sensor and a telephoto lens with OIS and 3x optical zoom, as well as a dual ultrawide front camera. Realme X3 lacks OIS, but it comes with a telephoto sensor and a dual ultrawide front camera. The main sensor is a midrange Samsung GW1 with a 64 MP resolution.

Battery

Honor Play4 Pro should be the handset with the longest battery life because it features a standard refresh rate. Further, it is the only one to feature reverse charging. Oppo Reno4 Pro 5G is the fastest-charging one with a 65W power.

Price

Oppo Reno4 Pro 5G is priced about €470/$527 in China, Honor Play4 Pro starts from €363/$407, and Realme X3 is priced at about €294/$330 in its base variant. The winner of this comparison is Oppo Reno4 Pro 5G: despite it is the only one not featuring a flagship-class hardware department, it has better cameras, a better display, a more premium design, and it is the only one with 5G. The value for money award goes to the Realme X3.

The company had recently confirmed the same through a short video teaser.

Now, the company has officially shared renders of the upcoming Reno4 series smartphones which is expected to have at least two models — OPPO Reno4 and Reno4 Pro. In another teaser, the company has confirmed that the device will come with an ultra-thin body and a new touch experience.

From what the company has showcased so far, the phone has a curved glass back which has large-sized Reno Glow written. There’s volume rocker keys on the left side of the phone while the power button is on the right side.

Interestingly, none of the teaser images or video shared by the company showcases the front panel of the display. It seems that the company is holding up for the big reveal of the so-called “new touch experience” that it is teasing to offer with the Reno4 series.

The renders have confirmed that the smartphone will come with a triple-camera setup on the back, along with an LED flash and a Laser focus support. It has already been confirmed that the smartphones will come with 5G support.
