Lenovo has announced the launch of its new 65W gallium nitride fast-charging power strip under the Xiaoxin brand, a product that is set to revolutionize the way we charge our devices on the go. With the increasing number of smart devices available, it’s no longer unusual to travel with multiple power adapters, but Lenovo’s innovative solution aims to put an end to that.

Direct charging for laptops: Lenovo’s new 65W power strip

One of the standout features of this power strip is its use of third-generation gallium nitride material, which allows it to deliver a maximum output of 65W per port. This means that not only can it charge multiple devices simultaneously, but it can also fast charge laptops directly, eliminating the need for bulky brick-like adapters.

The Xiaoxin 65W gallium nitride fast charging power strip is also incredibly intelligent, distributing charging power evenly to each device. And with a charging speed of up to 50% in just 40 minutes, this product is a great option for those who need to charge their devices quickly while on the go.

Although it may not be able to compete with fast charging adapters above 100W, the 65W power output is suitable for most thin and light laptops, as well as smartphones and tablets. This means that with this power strip, you won’t need to carry multiple chargers for your devices while on a business trip or vacation.

As for pricing, Lenovo has not yet announced the price of the Xiaoxin 65W gallium nitride fast-charging power strip. However, given the cost of gallium nitride, it’s likely to be more expensive than ordinary USB power strips. Nevertheless, the benefits that this product offers are considerable and worth considering for those who frequently travel with multiple devices.

Gaming laptops require a significant amount of power to run the high-end hardware they come equipped with, including powerful graphics cards and processors. As a result, the power adapters for gaming laptops are much larger and heavier than those for standard laptops. These adapters can be as big as a brick and weigh a pound or more, making them quite bulky and difficult to carry around. This size is necessary to deliver the high wattage and voltage required to power the gaming laptop’s components.

Lenovo has come up with a solution to the cumbersome size of power adapters for gaming laptops with its latest product release. At the Lenovo Savior spring ecological new product launch conference, Lenovo introduced the C140 GaN charger, which delivers a high power output of 140W. Even though gaming laptops require a significant amount of power to run, the C140 GaN charger is small in size but still able to achieve about 80% of the performance of ordinary adapters. As per test data, popular MOBA game DOTA 2 was played at the highest image quality, and while doing so, the frame rate using the original 300W adapter was 182. On the other hand, the frame rate using the 140W charger was 142. This is quite impressive for a charger which is less than half the wattage of the original power brick.

This charger is compatible with the Lenovo Legion series gaming notebooks, and it supports PD3.1, QC3.0, PPS3.0, and other fast charging protocols. The charger has a sleek design, a volume of 66.2×65×30.6mm, and a weight of about 270g, which is 26% of the original 300W charger of the Legion series notebooks. The C140 GaN charger is available for pre-order on the e-commerce platform for 269 yuan (~$39), with an initial price of 199 yuan (~$29). The pre-orders have already begun, and the charger will go on sale on April 7.

The post Lenovo Legion Launches Portable 140W GaN Adapter for Gaming Laptops appeared first on Gizmochina.

Earlier today (9th March 2023), Lenovo launched a new power adapter for one of its Legion gaming laptops. The new adapter in question is the C140 Power Adapter model that is built fort the 2023 Legion Y900P gaming notebook.

The Chinese PC maker has released the new power adapter to be an alternative for the original adapter that the Y9000P ships with. C140 model basically comes in a more compact and portable form factor, meaning it is smaller than the original adapter and is better suited for those that travel often or work/game on the go. As the name suggests, the new GaN adapter offers 140W power output with a single USB Type C port.

This is quite impressive considering this marks a rise from the 135W charging prowess over its predecessors, despite having a compact design. Furthermore, the company is offering the new C140 power adapter in two color options, namely White and Black. According to official notes, Lenovo’s new Legion Y9000P 2023 series gaming laptops support 140W portable fast charging.

Thanks to this, it can reach 92 percent of the actual game frame rate that it could achieve with the original adapter. For those unaware, the Legion laptops are equipped with beefy components that are quite power hungry. Thus, the Legion Y9000P 2023 edition’s top end model features a 330W GaN adapter, which can run the gaming laptop that has a total power draw of 250W.

Flagship laptops with high-end specifications usually have high power requirements. For this reason, charging bricks for such notebooks are bulky and heavy. In such cases, having a portable mini-adapter can really help, since they can help with charging multiple devices. On February 22, IT House released news that Lenovo’s new mini-adapter, the Thinkplus Lipstick Power Supply, is now available for pre-sale. This mini adapter is about half the height of a standard lipstick and supports 65W USB-C.

Lenovo’s design for this power adapter is unique, compressing the shape of the charger into a biscuit-shaped form with an ultra-thin and flat design. The Thinkplus Lipstick power brick has a thickness of only 12.7mm and a volume of 46.4cc, with overall dimensions of 87×42×12.7mm ± 0.5mm. Its small size is extremely beneficial for frequent travelers who require a portable charger to carry in their purses or bags. Furthermore, the foldable pin design helps to reduce the size of the adapter even further.

The Lenovo Lipstick Power Supply is highly compatible, supporting various charging protocols, including PD 3.0, QC 3.0, and PPS. The PPS protocol offers a maximum output of 65W, allowing the adapter to power 65W notebook computers and provide fast charging for high-end mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets.

This power adapter utilizes 3D stacking technology, built-in third-generation GaN gallium nitride chips, and has a power density of 1.4W/cc. Additionally, it features a 1.8-meter high-elastic detachable wire and a V0-level flame-retardant TPE sheath material. The mini-adapter’s texture is similar to that of human skin, offering a unique and pleasant tactile experience.

Lenovo’s Thinkplus Lipstick Power Supply is a unique and highly functional mini-adapter that provides a portable and efficient charging solution for high-end devices. It is priced at 199 yuan (~$28.86) at the time of its pre-sale.

It has been a year since Apple made the decision to not ship a charger with its phones. The decision even applied to older phones that are still in production. Other manufacturers such as Xiaomi, Samsung, and even Nokia have also joined Apple in the decision to not include chargers in the box, though it is important to mention that Xiaomi provides the option for buyers to get a charger for free.

While there is still a lot of debate going on around whether the lack of a charger in the box helps reduce e-waste or is just a way for manufacturers to make more money from the sale of accessories, that decision has come to stay with some manufacturers.

For this week’s poll, we want to know if our readers ave bought a phone without a charger in the past year. We will also love to know if they eventually purchased a charger or they used one they already own. So please take the poll and also share your opinions in the comment box.

Before the Apple iPhone 13 series smartphones were launched, it was reported that this time, the technology giant will be adding support for faster charging. While the company has not advertised this, a test conducted by ChargerLAB reveals that the iPhone 13 Pro Max is capable of charging at up to 27W speed.

As per the test, the Apple iPhone 13 Pro, when charged with a 30W or higher USB-C power adopter, can be charged at up to 27W speed. For comparison, the last year’s iPhone 12 Pro Max has a top charging speed of 21W to 22W.

However, it’s noteworthy that the iPhone 13 Pro Max doesn’t sustain peak 27W power for the entire charging cycle due to heat considerations but the interesting part is that the device is able to get charged at a slightly faster rate than its predecessor.

The charging test was conducted on the Pro Max model only so we are not sure if the iPhone 13 Pro also supports up to 27W charging. Whatever be the case, it practically doesn’t make any significant difference.

Apple is no longer offering a charger in the retail box when a customer purchases the new iPhone but the company is selling a 30W USB-C power adapter at a price of $49 for anyone who doesn’t have an existing USB-C charger.

The 27W charging speed for the latest iPhone series is still no match when compared to the 65W fast charging support offered by several Android smartphone manufacturers. Some companies are also offering 120W charging and the 200W charging, which has already been unveiled by a couple of brands, is set to debut commercially next year.

Most of the technological features in use on smartphones today may not have been invented by Apple but the brand’s popularity meant that whatever it deploys on its smartphone becomes a trend, the notch design for instance. In the same way, the industry has gradually started adopting Apple’s decision to ship the latest iPhone 12 models without a charging adapter inside the retail box. Samsung and Xiaomi are the notable names that have subsequently implemented the same style by removing the charging adapter from the retail box of their latest flagships.

Well, Huawei has stylishly joined the bandwagon even though no announcement was made in that regard. The company instead quietly released new models of its existing flagship model without the charging adapter inside the box.  The company released four new models namely; Huawei Mate X2, Mate 40 Pro, Nova 8 Pro, and Nova 8 on offline stores with the charging adapter absent from the retail box. Users have the option of choosing the version without the charger, or the normal package version. If you are taking the version without the adapter, there is a 200 yuan (~$30) slash off the price.

Apart from protecting the environment, the major reason why Huawei may have toed this line is to conserve its charging IC chips. The company reportedly stocked up some inventories of charging IC chips before the ban was enforced. Thus, it is careful not to run out of supplies. Chinese semiconductor manufacturers are working hard, though, to see that chips, especially the likes of charging IC chips with low process requirements, are manufactured locally.

We expect Huawei to resume full inclusion of the mobile phone adapter inside the retail box when locally manufactured charging IC chips are available.

A few days ago, with the launch of the new iPhone 12 models in the market, Apple confirmed what was being rumored for a couple of months. The company won’t be including the power adapter and earphones with the iPhone purchase.

Not only the newly launched iPhone 12 models, but even the older iPhones that the company is selling also come without the power adapter and Earpods. While people are not happy with the company’s decision, the customers have no choice but to purchase those products separately, if needed.

While the company has cited environmental issues as the reason for taking such a step, it is nonetheless going to help the company boost sales for these products, as DigiTimes predicts. All the iPhones sold before the iPhone 11 doesn’t come with a USB-C power adapter. So, all those people upgrading will need to purchase a new one.

As we said in our recent opinion piece, Apple should offer an option for buyers to decide if they want accessories or not when purchasing a phone, just like what it does for the storage and color option. Even Samsung removed earphones from the Galaxy Note20 box at least for the North American market, but it is offering it for free to those who want it.

AirPods have become one of the best-selling products from Apple and with Earpods not being included in the box for the new iPhone purchase, the company is expected to see a boost in sales for its wireless earphones.

The Cupertino-giant is also making efforts for the same, which are quite evident. For instance, on the day Apple launched its iPhone 12 models, Beats announced the Beats Flex earphones which went on sale on 23rd October, the same day the new iPhone models were made available for purchase. For those who are unaware, Beats is owned by Apple.

As per the report from Counterpoint Research, AirPods from Apple had 35 percent of the market share for True Wireless Earphones (TWS) in the second quarter of this year. Also, another report from Canalys predicts that the sales of TWS will grow 29 percent this year.

Apple finally launched its next-generation iPhone 12 series which includes four models — iPhone 12, 12 Mini, 12 Pro, and 12 Pro Max. With the launch of this new lineup, the company has also ditched the charger and Earpods from the box.

Now, Samsung, which is the world’s leading smartphone brand, has taken to social media channels to mock Apple over its move of removing power adapter from the retail box. Through posts on social media, the company points out that the Samsung Galaxy series smartphones continue to ship with a power adapter.

It’s noteworthy that Apple not only removed the power adapter from the box of the newly launched iPhone 12 models but also for the older models. So, even if someone buys the iPhone 11 series, there won’t be a charger included.

Many are criticizing Apple for the move, which the company claims is for environmental purposes. But it seems that the company is just using the excuse of the environment to remove the power adapter from the box and force users to buy it separately.

Apple’s iPhones ship with just a USB-C to Lightning cable which won’t be compatible with the USB-A power adapters that Apple has shipped with almost every iPhone since 2007. So, most of the existing iPhone users who would be upgrading won’t have a USB-C power adapter, forcing them to shell out more money to get one.

If Apple was really concerned about the environmental impact of power adapters, the company could have opted for a USB-C charging port on the iPhones, ditching its proprietor Lightning just like it did with the iPad Pro.

Samsung, which is mocking Apple for removing power adapter from the box, is reportedly planning to do the same for some of its devices from next year. However, it’s just a rumor at this point in time and we’ll have to wait and see how it goes.

Xiaomi has recently released a new 65W USB Type-C universal power adapter. As the name suggests, it is capable of charging smartphones, laptop notebooks and more. The gadget has been made more compact than its previous generations, making it more portable.

According to official notes, the size of the latest 65W Type-C universal power adapter is 27 percent smaller than its previous iteration. Furthermore, since it is a universal power adapter, it can power and charge a wide range of different products. With its USB-C charging port, it can power the new MacBook Pro and even Xiaomi Notebooks with a 65W maximum charge.

Notably, Apple’s 13 inch MacBook Pro can be fully charged in about 1 hour and 50 minutes while the Xiaomi Notebook Pro with a 15.6 inch display can be powered in 2 hours and 25 minutes. Additionally, the Type-C port can even provide 18W fast charging for the iPhone 11 series, with charging rated being 50 percent faster than installing a 5V/1A charger.

The Xiaomi 65W Type-C power adapter uses high precision resistant capacitor sensors for different devices. This allows for different devices being charged at their respective optimal and safe rates while also improving conversion rates and also stabilize the discharge voltage for a guaranteed safe power supply.

The Xiaomi product follows a fairly simple design philosophy with integrated and foldable pins that allow for easier storage when being carried. The outer covering is also flame resistant to avoid damage from high temperatures. As stated earlier, it supports a wide range of products, so check for compatibility in the images above.
