<p>The update carries firmware version V13.0.2.0.SCUMIXM for the Redmi Note 8 (2021) and is rolling out the “Global” region. The full ROM is sized 2.7GB and comes with the January security patch. Being marked as a “stable beta” means that it is yet to roll out widely, but once declared bug-free, more users should be getting it.</p>

<p>Both <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/lenovo">Lenovo</a> and <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/samsung">Samsung</a> announced new tablets last week. The latter announced the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/05/25/lenovos-xiaoxin-pad-pro-2021-is-the-worlds-first-snapdragon-870-tablet-costs-469/">Xiaoxin Pad Pro 2021</a>, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/05/25/lenovos-xiaoxin-pad-plus-undercuts-samsungs-galaxy-tab-s7-fe/">Xiaoxin Pad Plus</a>, and the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/05/25/the-lenovo-yoga-pad-pro-is-a-premium-android-tablet-that-doubles-as-an-external-display/">YOGA Pad Pro</a> while Samsung announced the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/05/27/samsung-unveils-galaxy-tab-s7-fe-5g-and-galaxy-tab-a7-lite-goes-on-sale-june-18/">Galaxy Tab S7 FE and the Galaxy Tab A7 Lite</a>.</p>

<p><strong>Arm&#8217;s new CPU cores are powerful and boast a new architecture</strong></p>
<p>Arm&#8217;s CPUs and GPUs are the basis for a lot of mobile processors. Last week, it <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/05/26/arm-announce-cortex-x2-a710-a510-new-mali-gpus/">announced new ones</a> that are not only powerful but also mark a big shift in architecture as they drop the 2011 Arm v8 for the new Arm v9.</p>
<p>The new CPUs include the Cortex-X2 performance core, the Cortex-A710 big core which succeeds the Cortex-A78, and the Cortex-A510 which succeeds the Cortex-A55 that was announced back in 2018. As you can see, Arm has switched from two digits to three for its big core and little cores.</p>
<p>For the new GPUs, we have the Mali-G710 and Mali-G610 for high-end chips and the Mali-G510 and Mali-G310, successors to the Mali-G57 and Mali-G31 for budget and mid-range chips. All of this GPUs are available with different cores, so that will play a role in their performance when they begin to appear in chipsets.</p>

<p><strong>OPPO Reno6 series</strong></p>
<p>The <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/05/27/oppo-reno6-5g-reno6-pro-plus-5g-reno6-pro-5g-official/">Reno6 series made its debut in China last week</a>. <p><strong>Realme could switch back to ColorOS</strong></p>
<p>When Realme first began shipping phones, the devices ran <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/ColorOS/">ColorOS</a>. Along the line, it announced its own UI called <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/realme-UI/">realme UI</a>, which is actually a fork of OPPO&#8217;s ColorOS. Now a recent survey carried out by the brand <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/05/28/realme-could-switch-back-to-coloros-for-its-smartphones/">realme could switch back to ColorOS for its smartphones</a>, though with some features exclusive to its own phones.</p>

<p><strong>Redmagic 6R is a more affordable gaming flagship</strong></p>
<p>Nubia&#8217;s RedMagic gaming smartphone brand announced a new model for its RedMagic 6 series last week. The <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/05/27/redmagic-6r-with-144hz-display-sd888-55w-charging-and-7-8mm-chassis-launched-for-2699-yuan-423/">RedMagic 6R</a> is a proper flagship in its own right with its AMOLED display, 144Hz refresh rate, Snapdragon 888 chip, and support for 55W fast charging, but it is more affordable than its siblings with a starting price of under ~$450.</p>

Like the original Redmi Note 8 phone from 2019, its newer version has a 6.3-inch LCD display and a 48-megapixel quad-camera system. Rumors have it that the main snapper will be joined by an ultrawide lens, a macro camera, and a depth assist lens.</p>

<p>It appears that the Redmi Note 8 2021 will be available in at least two colors such as Neptune Blue and Moonlight While like the original model. A fingerprint scanner can be seen on the backside of the smartphone. The Chinese firm has confirmed that the <a href="https://www,gizmochina.com/tag/helio-g85">Helio G85</a> chipset will be present under the hood of the Note 8 2021. The Chinese firm has now released a new tweet to reveal the front design of the Note 8 2021.</p>
<p>The tweet reveals that the Redmi Note 8 2021 has a waterdrop notch display on the front. The original <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/xiaomi-redmi-note-8">Redmi Note 8</a> flaunted the same display design. The company is yet to reveal the rear appearance of the Note 8 2021. It remains to be seen whether it continues to sport the same rear design as its original version.</p>

<p>It is unclear whether Xiaomi will be announcing the Redmi Note 8 2021 in May or June. However, what appears to be certain is that the company will continue to release more teasers to reveal its other features.</p>
<p>Recent reports have revealed that the Redmi Note 8 2021 that has a model number of M1908C3JGG has already passed <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/05/17/redmi-note-8-2021-receives-bluetooth-certification-launch-seems-near/">Bluetooth SIG</a> and FCC certifications. These certifications revealed that it will come with features like Bluetooth 5.2, MIUI 12.5, and a 4,000mAh battery.</p>
<p>Rumors surrounding it have claimed that it has an LCD panel that carries support for FHD+ resolution and a <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/05/14/redmi-note-8-2021-could-be-in-works-120hz-display-48mp-quad-cameras-and-other-specs-appear/">120Hz refresh rate</a>. The <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/helio-g85">Helio G85</a> SoC by MediaTek is expected to fuel the smartphone with 4 GB of RAM. The handset could be available in storage options like 64 GB and 128 GB.</p>
<p>The Note 8 2021 is likely to sport 48-megapixel quad rear cameras. The big battery of the phone could be coupled with 22.5W rapid charging. Only a few markets are expected to receive the Note 8 2021, and India does not seem to be one of them.</p>

It is so popular that <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/xiaomi">Xiaomi</a> is bringing it back this year with upgraded internals. Yes, you read that right &#8211; the Redmi Note 8 2021 is coming.</p>
<p>A tweet by the official Xiaomi account has confirmed earlier reports that there is a new version of the Redmi Note 8 coming, and it will launch as the Redmi Note 8 2021. This is unusual considering that the Redmi Note 8 has already received two successors &#8211; the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/xiaomi-redmi-note-9/">Redmi Note 9</a> and the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/xiaomi-redmi-note-10/">Redmi Note 10</a> &#8211; and both are fantastic devices. There is not yet an official launch date for the Redmi Note 8 2021 but we will let you know once we do.</p>
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-width="550" data-dnt="true">
<p lang="en" dir="ltr">The <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/RedmiNote8?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">#RedmiNote8</a> has now sold 25M+ units globally!</p>
<p>As we celebrate this milestone, we&#39;re thrilled to introduce you to the <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/ThePerformanceAllStar?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">#ThePerformanceAllStar</a> – the <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/RedmiNote8?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">#RedmiNote8</a> 2021. Stay tuned! <a href="https://t.co/39RHoTC2Mb">pic.twitter.com/39RHoTC2Mb</a></p>
<p>&mdash; Xiaomi (@Xiaomi) <a href="https://twitter.com/Xiaomi/status/1395408996908113928?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">May 20, 2021</a></p></blockquote>
<p><script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script></p>
<p>In the tweet, Xiaomi revealed that it has sold over 25 million units of the original Redmi Note 8 phone globally. While that is a lot considering that Xiaomi <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/05/20/xiaomi-sells-200-million-redmi-note-series-smartphones/">revealed earlier today that it has sold over 200 million Redmi Note phones</a> since the series was established up until February 24, 2021, we are not sure if the 25 million units include sales of the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/xiaomi-redmi-note-8/">Redmi Note 8T</a> which is practically the NFC version of the Redmi Note 8.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-390767" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/Redmi-Note-series-total-sales.jpg?x10805" alt="Redmi Note series total sales" width="1024" height="512" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/Redmi-Note-series-total-sales.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/Redmi-Note-series-total-sales-300x150.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/Redmi-Note-series-total-sales-768x384.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/Redmi-Note-series-total-sales-696x348.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/Redmi-Note-series-total-sales-840x420.jpg 840w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></p>
<p>It has been reported that the Redmi Note 8 2021 will have an LCD display with a 120Hz refresh rate and a waterdrop notch. It will swap the Snapdragon 665 chipset for MediaTek&#8217;s Helio G85, have 4GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, and pack a 4000mAh battery with support for22.5W fast charging. It will also run <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/MIUI-12.5">MIUI 12.5</a> out of the box. The camera specs are currently unknown but there are speculations it may not differ from the original.</p>
<p>Now that Xiaomi is relaunching older devices, which of its other phones do you want to see get a relaunch?</p>

A variant of the phone with model number M1908C3JGG was <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/05/14/redmi-note-8-2021-could-be-in-works-120hz-display-48mp-quad-cameras-and-other-specs-appear/">recently spotted</a> at the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) certification site. The same device has now received approval from <a href="https://launchstudio.bluetooth.com/ListingDetails/128892">the Bluetooth SIG authority</a>. The listing yet again reveals that it is a new device.</p>
<p>The Bluetooth SIG listing of the M1908C3JGG mentions it as the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/xiaomi-redmi-note-8">Redmi Note 8</a>. The older Redmi Note 8, which debuted in 2019 carried support for Bluetooth 5.0 connectivity. However, its newer version that has appeared at Bluetooth SIG is equipped with Bluetooth 5.2. Hence, it appears to be the 2021 edition of the Redmi Note 8. At present, there is no official information available on its existence.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-389880" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/Redmi-Note-8-2021-Bluetooth-SIG.jpg?x10805" alt="Redmi Note 8 (2021) Bluetooth SIG" width="900" height="879" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/Redmi-Note-8-2021-Bluetooth-SIG.jpg 900w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/Redmi-Note-8-2021-Bluetooth-SIG-300x293.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/Redmi-Note-8-2021-Bluetooth-SIG-768x750.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/Redmi-Note-8-2021-Bluetooth-SIG-696x680.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/Redmi-Note-8-2021-Bluetooth-SIG-430x420.jpg 430w" sizes="(max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px" /></p>
<p>Rumors surrounding it have claimed that the Redmi Note 8 (2021) could be sporting an IPS LCD waterdrop notch screen that offers a 120Hz refresh rate. The device could be equipped with the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/helio-g85">Helio G85</a> chipset and 4 GB of RAM. It may arrive in the market in storage editions such as 64 GB and 128 GB.</p>
<p>The Redmi Note 8 (2021) could be powered by a 4,000mAh battery that may support 22.5W rapid charging. For photography, it may feature a quad-camera system headlined by a 48-megapixel camera. The FCC listing of the Redmi Note 8 (2021) will come loaded with the latest MIUI 12.5.</p>
<p>The Note 8 (2021) is expected to arrive in markets like the EU, Russia, and few other regions. Now that the smartphone has received important certifications, it appears that it may go official later this month or in early June.</p>

<p><strong>ASUS launches Zenfone 8 series</strong></p>
<p><a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/ASUS">ASUS</a> announced the Zenfone 8 series last week. Featuring two phones &#8211; the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/05/12/asus-zenfone-8-packs-flagship-features-in-a-compact-body-for-e599/">Zenfone 8</a> and <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/05/12/asus-zenfone-8-flip-is-practically-the-zenfone-7-pro-with-a-snapdragon-888-chip/">Zenfone 8 Flip</a>, ASUS is targeting two different demographics with its new phones. If you want a compact flagship device, the Zenfone 8 is for you and if you want a phone that will turn heads when you try to take a selfie in public, then the Zenfone 8 Flip is the device to go for.</p>

<p><strong>POCO UI is coming</strong></p>
<p><a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/POCO">POCO</a> started as a sub-brand of Xiaomi but is <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/11/24/poco-global-announces-that-it-is-now-an-independent-brand/">now an “independent” brand</a>. Its phones run a slightly tweaked version of <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/MIUI">MIUI</a> out of the box but that may change soon as the company plans to <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/05/13/poco-ui-confirmed-to-arrive-in-late-2021/">launch its own UI which will be called POCO UI</a>. It will still be an off-shoot of MIUI but with more features exclusive to POCO devices. POCO has also revealed it has <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/05/12/poco-has-no-plans-to-launch-android-one-smartphones/">no intention to launch an Android One phone</a>.</p>

<p><strong>A new Redmi Note 8?</strong></p>
<p>The <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/xiaomi-redmi-note-8/">Redmi Note 8</a> was a pretty popular device, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2019/12/02/redmi-note-8-breaks-10-million-unit-sales-company-teases-redmi-k30/">selling more than 10 million units</a>. According to new info that surfaced last week, it appears <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/redmi">Redmi</a> plans to launch a new version of the phone with new specs. This new version has been seen at the FCC and is <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/05/14/redmi-note-8-2021-could-be-in-works-120hz-display-48mp-quad-cameras-and-other-specs-appear/">expected to launch as the Redmi Note 8 (2021)</a>. It is also expected to have a high refresh rate display, a MediaTek chipset, and a 4000mAh battery.</p>

<p><strong>First look at Google&#8217;s Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro</strong></p>
<p>If you didn&#8217;t like that <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/google">Google</a> used the same design for the Pixel 4a, Pixel 4a 5G, and Pixel 5, then the Pixel 6 and the Pixel 6 Pro should excite you. <p><strong>Meizu Watch</strong></p>
<p>We thought <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/meizu-18/">Meizu</a> would launch its smartwatch alongside the Meizu 18 series but that didn&#8217;t happen. An <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/05/14/meizu-watch-render-leak-curved-display/">alleged render of the wearable</a> surfaced a few days ago and it has a familiar design.</p>
