However, like all tech products, soon, the Snapdragon 821 that we say is so powerful, will be replaced by an even powerful Snapdragon 830 chipset and that should most likely happen early 2017.

Now, more details about the Snapdragon 830 chip and its Quick Charging 4.0 technology has just been revealed via a new report. The new chip is said to come with an ever faster Quick Charging technology, the fourth generation version. The Quick Charge 4.0 is said to charge smartphones at an even faster pace because it comes with 28W charging. Fudzilla states that the chip will support 5V/4.7A~5.6A, 9V/4A configurations, which if true, will make charging super fast. Further, thanks to the Intelligent Negotiation for Optimum Voltage (INOV), the technology should be able to charge large batteries, which is becoming a trend among flagships, even faster.

RELATED: Snapdragon 830 Chip Spotted On Zauba Website

The first Snapdragon 820 smartphone, the Le Max Pro (although it wasn’t commercially available) was released as early as January this year. So, we could meet the first Snapdragon 830 chip as soon as January 2017. However, there was a good reason for Qualcomm to speed up the release of the 820, after the big debacle with the overheating Snapdragon 810.

This year, things are different and much more positive for the chipmaker, especially with Snapdragon 821 still fresh, powering new flagships. So, Qualcomm could release the Snapdragon 830 a bit later into 2017, rather than giving it a very early release. Well, we’ll know for sure in the next few weeks, so stay tuned for more details.

The Zauba listing for the Snapdragon 830 showed the device, listed as MSM8998, made several entries into India from September 12 to October 6 with a total of 80 units delivered to the Asian country, apparently for testing. The devices were listed to have originated from the US.

Zauba is notorious for sparing very little detail about the shipments but this one is generous enough to give us the idea that the prototype device with which the chip ships features 4GB of LPDDR4 RAM as well as 64GB of built-in storage. The value of each chip and prototype device shipped into India by Qualcomm was put at 102,641 Rupees (around $1,541).

There are also rumors that the next gen chip may not be called Snapdragon 830 but SD 835 instead and would feature first onboard some versions of the Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8 Edge billed for release in February 2017.

Almost every flagship in the market today use these two chipsets, which is no surprise given the performance delivered by them.

This also means we expect a lot from the Snapdragon 830 chipset that should be ideally released early next year. The chip needs to be more powerful than the Snapdragon 821 and also more efficient as well. Recent rumors have revealed very good specs for the upcoming chip, including eight-core Kryo architecture, 10nm manufacturing node, and Cat. 16 LTE support. Today, a new rumor citing ‘authoritative sources’ surfaced saying that the Galaxy S8 will be coming with Snapdragon 830 inside.

RELATED: Xiaomi Mi 5S Antutu Score Revealed: Trumps LeEco Le Pro 3

But according to the Chinese analyst Kevin Wang, the flagship chipset from Qualcomm may not be called the Snapdragon 830.

Instead, he believes that the chip will be called as the Snapdragon 835. Unfortunately, he didn’t give out any specific reason for skipping the Snapdragon 830 name tag. It’s likely that we may get Snapdragon 830 as well, but with a slower clock speed than the 835, similar to what the company did with Snapdragon 820 and 821. But at this moment, it’s too early to predict what will happen. The release is still a few months away, so better wait for some more concrete details.

Now, a new rumor out of China alleges that the expected Exynos 8895 chip will feature improvements in image processing by up to between 70% and 80% and is capable of reaching a clock speed of up to 3.0GHz. That is a whole lot of processing speed.

The Exynos 8895 chip if actually manufactured on the 10nm process would be Samsung’s first chip manufactured on that level and also Samsung’s first to run at a max power draw of just 5 watts. This could improve processing speed to a lightning bolt level and at the same time the device won’t get too hot.

The Exynos 8895 found a worthy rival in Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 830 chips which would likely hit the market next year, also manufactured on the 10nm process. Already, the Exynos 8895 is alleged to have hit Geekbench, pulling an amazing score of 2301 for the single-core and 7019 for multi-core tests.

Related: Snapdragon 830 Specs Leaked: 10nm Process, Early Next Year Availability

We are already getting rumors of an early debut for next year’s Galaxy S8 and S8 Edge flagships due to the Note 7’s mishap. The model numbers of the duo have been leaked, meaning they are already in the works and it is believed they would launch spotting the Exynos 8895. It is only then we can determine the true power of Samsung’s next-gen chip.

Now that the Snapdragon 820 chipset is powering all major smartphones of 2016, our attention is slowly turning towards the next generation version of the chipset, which will be most likely called as Snapdragon 828 or Snapdragon 830. Now, more details about the Snapdragon 830, 828 and 823 have surfaced online.

Since we have detailed information about the three chipsets, here’s everything summarized below.

Snapdragon 823:

According to today’s leak, the Snapdragon 823 will be the first one to meet us among the three chips. It will be announced in the second quarter of 2016.

Qualcomm will reportedly continue to use 14nm LPP process to manufacture Snapdragon 823. It was supposed to be called as the Snapdragon 821, but it will now be known as Snapdragon 823. There will be four Kyro 100 cores inside which are most likely clocked at faster speeds. The chip will continue to use Adreno 530 GPU, but it should feature some upgrades as well. It will come with the X12 LTE baseband with Cat. 12/ 13 LTE support. Other features mentioned in the leak include QC 3.0 support and 600Mbps maximum download speeds.

Given the timing of the announcement of the chip, this should be the one that should end up in new generation Android flagships debuting later this year. So, we will probably find it inside the Galaxy Note 6 model.

Snapdragon 828:

Next up is the Snapdragon 828 which will be manufactured using the next generation 10nm FF process. The chip will use Kryo 200 cores but we are not quite sure whether it will continue with the quad-core architecture. Moving on, there will be Adreno 519 GPU inside with X12 LTE and Cat. 12/ 13 LTE support. The GPU is lower than the other two chips, and even Snapdragon 820. But it will support 4K x 2K video recording at 60 fps and LPDDR4X memory.

The chip will reportedly be announced only in the fourth quarter of 2016. So, there’s still time for more details.

Snapdragon 830:

Coming to the flagship Snapdragon 830 chip, it will feature Kryo 200 cores and will be manufactured on the 10nm FF process. No details on the core architecture inside, but the GPU will be upgraded to Adreno 540. Also, it will feature a new baseband X16 model and will support maximum download speeds up to 980 Mbps. Other features include 4K x 2K video recording at 60 fps and LPDDR4X support.

Like the Snapdragon 828, the new Snapdragon 830 is set to be announced in the Q4 2016. So, expect flagships of 2017 to be powered by this chip.

So, that was it. The table below gives out some more details about these three chips. Check that out. Also, like always, we are not entirely sure of this leak, so better take this leaked table with a pinch of salt.

After Snapdragon 810’s overheating issues, everyone were worried whether the next generation chip, the Snapdragon 820 would be plagued by the same problem. However, so far, Snapdragon 820 seems to be one of the best chipsets from the chipmaker till date and no issues about overheating have been reported yet.

This could be mainly because of the company’s decision to go back to custom cores. Four custom Kryo cores power the Snapdragon 820 and when it comes to performance, there are hardly any competitors who are as powerful as this chip.

Now, analyst Pan Jiutang from China has revealed a few details about the next-gen Snapdragon flagship chipset. While he doesn’t mention the name of the chipset, he did reveal the code, MSM8998. According to him, the next gen Qualcomm chip will continue to use Kryo cores and will be manufactured on the much more efficient 10nm process. The chip will also come with the new X16 LTE modem.

Along with this information, he further revealed that many of the flagships of 2016 will be based on Snapdragon 652 (MSM8976) chipset and not on the top-end Snapdragon 820. He adds that this is mainly because of the high cost of the latter and that Snapdragon 652 with its octa-core architecture is strong enough.

To recap, the Snapdragon 652 chipset is quite powerful, thanks to its four Cortex A72 cores. Further, the chipset is efficient with the other four cores based on Cortex A53. In the GPU department as well, the SD652 is quite powerful thanks to Qualcomm’s Adreno 510. Other features include X8 LTE with support for Cat. 7 (up to 300Mbps download), quad HD display support and Hexagon DSP.

Even before the Snapdragon 820 powered smartphones hit the market, rumors about its next generation, namely Snapdragon 830 have started making rounds. The latest rumor from Weibo states that Qualcomm will rely on Samsung for manufacturing its next-generation chipset.

The source states that Snapdragon 830 (MSM8898) will continue to use Kyro architecture. So, it looks like the rumors about the company ditching custom cores in favor of stock ARM cores may not be true. However, the chip will feature the upgraded generation Kyro architecture.

According to the rumor, Snapdragon 830 will use Samsung’s 10nm manufacturing process which will be even better than the current 14nm process used by Exynos 8890 and Snapdragon 820. In fact, Samsung recently revealed that it has undertaken the mass production of the Snapdragon 820 chipset this year. So, it likely that next year too, Qualcomm may ask Samsung to manufacture its chip, based on the company’s latest 10nm process.

If true, this will mean that next year’s chipsets will be even smaller than the current generation. It will be more powerful but efficient at the same time, which will significantly improve the overall performance of the chip. What’s more, the source states that the chip will be able to support up to 8GB of RAM on board, which means multitasking will be a breeze on the devices that end up with the Snapdragon 830.

The chip is said to release sometime early 2017.

According to Pan Jiutang, an analyst from China, Snapdragon 830 could support up to 8GB of RAM memory.

This shouldn’t come as a surprise. The current generation Snapdragon 820 supports up to 6GB of RAM. While we are yet to see a smartphone with such memory from a notable brand, there are rumors that at least of a couple of smartphones with 6GB RAM may hit the markets next year. For example, a few weeks back, we heard that the next generation version of LeTV Max 2 model could come with Snapdragon 820 and 6GB RAM. However, the company is yet to confirm these specs.

So, support for 8GB RAM won’t be surprising on a chip that’s going to debut in 2017. We are already seeing apps and games that require such amount of memory and in a couple of years, the demand for more power could lead to 8GB RAM powered smartphones. Moreover, it is rumored that Snapdragon 830 will be manufactured using the 10nm node. Again it’s possible since the current generation Snapdragon 820 uses the efficient 14nm process.

These specs would make the chip ideal for flagships. It is said that Samsung’s Galaxy S8 could be one of the first phones powered by 830. But we will have to wait and watch if it turns out to be true since Xiaomi’s Mi 5 could be one of the first phones to debut Snapdragon 820 next year. So, it could follow suit in 2017 as well.

However, it’s too early to confirm anything, so let’s wait for some more concrete details before getting too excited.
