However, the company had just recently teased the launch of its upcoming compact flagship grade smartphone, so let’s have a look at its possible specs, pricing, and more.

Design and Display

Based on what we know so far, the Japanese tech giant’s Xperia 5 IV will be a premium compact handset. Not much is known about its design, but the compact nature will likely imply a smaller chassis and display overall. Although, we can expect its design to be similar to its larger sibling the Xperia 1 IV. So, it will likely have a matte finish with a flat rear panel surrounded by metallic frame on the sides. This is also in line with the brand’s teaser that said “Be Creative. Go Compact.”

Xperia 1 IV

However, unlike the Xperia 1 IV’s 6.5 inch display panel, the Xperia 5 IV will have a smaller screen that will reportedly measure around 153.5mm diagonally, which is roughly about 6 inch. Since its a flagship model, the display is likely an OLED panel that offers 120Hz high refresh rate as well. Other design features may include a 3.5mm headphone jack and a USB Type C port for charging and data transfer.

Specifications

As of right now, not a lot of information is available regarding the finer details of Sony Xperia 5 IV’s internal hardware. But based on previous reports, the flagship model will most likely be equipped with Qualcomm’s latest and greatest, Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC. But, there is still a chance that the brand decides to ship the upcoming model with the older Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor as well.

This will probably be coupled with up to 12GB of RAM and 512GB of internal storage like the Xperia 1 IV. Other features include, a triple camera setup, a dual stereo speaker, IP68 water and dust resistance, wireless charging support, and more.

Camera

Similar to the specifications, the cameras on the Xperia 5 IV is still shrouded in mystery. The recent teaser only shared that one can “shoot breathtaking portraits.” The Xperia 1 IV also housed a triple camera module on the rear, which consisted of three 12 megapixel sensors. This included the 24mm f/1.7 primary camera with a 1/1.7 inch sensor, a 16mm f/2.2 ultra wide angle lens, and an 85 to 125mm f/2.3 to f/2.8 telephoto zoom lens. Meanwhile, the front housed a 12 megapixel selfie camera. So, there’s a chance that Sony ships the new smartphone with the same if not similar camera specs as well.

Now, the Japanese company has shared another teaser video for the upcoming smartphone titled “A New Xperia is coming…” and it adds, “Exciting news is coming from Sony.”

In the video, Sony is talking about the new photography system and claims that the phone allows users to “shoot breathtaking portraits” and “share your song with the world” along with “live stream your winning moments” while playing video games.

It also says “Be Creative. Go Compact.” towards the end of the video, which confirms that the upcoming smartphone from Sony is a compact flagship. This is interesting given that there are almost no compact Android flagship smartphones available in the market.

While a compact smartphone is confirmed, it is not yet known if it’s the Xperia 5 IV or some other model. We’ll get to know for sure when the device gets launched later this week, which will also be live streamed by the company.

As per the rumors, the upcoming Sony Xperia 5 IV is expected to feature a 6.04-inch display and will be powered by the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor, which is powering almost all the flagship phones getting launched. It is also expected to retain the 3.5mm headphone jack and will have support for wireless charging.

However, the company didn’t announce the anticipated Xperia 5 IV. Now, the Japanese conglomerate has scheduled a launch event on September 1 where it may finally launch the Sony Xperia 5 IV.

The event will take place on September 1 at 4 PM Japan time (3 AM EST). Moreover, it will be live-streamed on the official Sony Xperia YouTube channel, so interested folks can watch it from the comfort of their homes.

The company announced the Xperia event through a teaser posted on YouTube. Interestingly, Sony collaborated with artist Cat Burns who apparently shot and recorded her latest single “People Pleaser” on a new Xperia phone. However, she didn’t specify which Xperia Phone. We believe it’s the long-rumored Xperia 5 IV.

The teaser suggests that the upcoming Xperia smartphone will have a compact form factor. The device will likely have the same pocket-friendly design as other smartphones in the Xperia 5 series.

Sony Xperia 1 IV

A recent FCC listing suggested that the Xperia 5 IV’s display will measure 153.5mm diagonally (roughly 6-inch). Moreover, it is listed to come equipped with a 3.5mm headphone jack and a USB Type-C port.

The details about the device are still pretty short. It is expected to be powered by the latest Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 Soc. But the possibility of an older Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor cannot be zeroed. In addition, it may feature a 120Hz OLED display, IP68 water resistance, a triple camera system, and dual stereo speakers.

The pricing and other details of the device are yet to be known. More details will definitely surface ahead of the launch. We’ll keep you posted.

The device features the Snapdragon 888 SoC and comes with an impressive triple camera setup. Now, rumors are afloat that Sony is working on the next device in the Xperia 5 lineup dubbed the Xperia 5 IV, which will be a compact phone packing a mighty punch.

According to a Weibo tipster, the Sony Xperia 5 IV will come with a 6.1-inch display with Gorilla Glass Victus protection on the front and the back panel of the device. The main improvement Sony will offer in the device is said to be the upcoming Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus chipset which will be based on TSMC’s 4nm node rather than Samsung’s 4nm node. The current Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC’s which are currently quite notorious for their thermal performance are based on Samsung’s 4nm node.

The battery is also said to get a slight bump in capacity compared to the Xperia 5 III, which houses a 4500mAh battery. So, we can expect a 4700mAh battery from the upcoming device.

Not much will change in the camera department according to the leaks. The phone will sport the same triple camera setup on the rear as its predecessor, comprising of an in-house 12MP primary camera sensor (IMX557) with OIS, a 12MP IMX363 sensor for the ultra-wide camera, and a 12MP telephoto camera with the IMX663 sensor, OIS, and 3x optical zoom capability.

The tipster has also hinted at a 5,000 yuan ($789) price tag, which is considerably cheaper than the Sony Xperia 5 III which launched in China at 6,599 yuan ($1,041). All this information, however, remains unsubstantiated, so we advise our readers to take it with a pinch of salt and stay tuned for more notable developments on the matter.
