He performed all kind of tests to check how the Poco F1 stands against scratch resistance, burn resistance and water resistance. He used sharp knives and some other metal tools to test the durability of the device. Xiaomi mid-range device is selling like hotcakes in India due to its high-end specs and low-price. So, it’s a good time to check, how better Xiaomi Poco F1 rank in the durability test.

In the durability test, Xiaomi stood against all the odds and gained a good rating from the YouTuber. To test the scratch resistance, he used sharp cutter on the Gorilla Glass packed 2.5D curved display and on the sides of the phone. Apart from the basic scratches/grooves on the display, it survives from all the scratches that are made using metal coins, keys and similar other objects in your pocket. Further, he conveyed that the Poco F1 is little water resistant and pointed out its plastic build quality, which is prone to scratches and scuffs.

Talking about the fingerprint sensor, it sits on the backside of the device which also survived scratches from a sharp blade. YouTuber has termed it as “invincible”. Xiaomi packs similar quality material for the protector that is covering the dual rear camera setup on the back. Overall, the device’s backside is prone to scratches and it remains solid upon dropping it from normal height. Just a heads up, make sure to use a case for the device as the back is prone to scratches.

Here’s the Poco F1 durability test video:

In the end, YouTuber did some burn tests on the Xiaomi Poco F1 but it fails to impress. It survived open flame test for few seconds but after that it didn’t resist the fire. It also performed average in the bend test.

Overall, the device has gained appreciation in the scratch test which is a major part of the durability test. So, in general, Xiaomi Poco F1 build is quite good for daily usage.

Design

If aesthetics are your main concern, then you definitely should not go for the Xiaomi Pocophone F1 as it offers a cheap polycarbonate design. Vivo V11 Pro is definitely the most beautiful handset with its very high screen-to-body ratio and a glass back cover available in gradient colors. It even offers an in-display fingerprint reader and a waterdrop notch. Moto G6 Plus is less beautiful in my opinion, but it is splash resistant and it has a very solid build quality.

Display

All of these devices come with a very wide display and a Full HD+ resolution, but the one offering a more pleasing viewing quality is the Vivo V11 Pro thanks to its Super AMOLED technology. It has vivid colors and very deep blacks, and even though it has a notch, it is a minimal one, so it is not invasive. At the second place, there is Moto G6 Plus with its 18:9 display, while I did not like Poco F1’s display so much.

Hardware & Software

Hardware is the strongest point of the Xiaomi Pocophone F1, which is the most affordable smartphone to feature a Snapdragon 845 processor. And it is also the only smartphone in its price range to deliver flagship-level performance. It comes with up to 8 GB of RAM, up to 256 GB of internal storage, and it is perfect for gaming and the most demanding activities. Xiaomi Pocophone F1 also has an optimized version of MIUI for gamers and advanced users with smooth performance.

Camera

The camera department is a close battle between Motorola Moto G6 Plus and Vivo V11 Pro as the Xiaomi Poco F1 does not offer impressive camera performance. We choose Moto G6 Plus due to its great shots in low-light conditions and a very strong autofocus, but on the other hand, Vivo V11 Pro is a better camera phone for selfies thanks to its 25 MP snapper.

Battery

Xiaomi Pocophone F1 is equipped with a 4000 mAh battery and it is a battery life champion. The battery is an important component when it comes to gaming and advanced uses, that is why this phone can guarantee one day of battery life even with a stressed use. The other two handsets have an average battery life.

Price

Motorola Moto G6 Plus hitten India two days ago (6 GB RAM version) with a price tag of about $310 which roughly translates into €267. Vivo V11 Pro costs approximately $361 that is about €281, while you can grab a unit of Xiaomi Pocophone F1 for $289. The most complete phone is definitely Vivo V11 Pro and it wins the comparison, but if you want the max performance get a Poco F1.

The new update brings some new improvements and enhancements to the device. It has received camera optimizations, app improvements and few other changes. Xiaomi Poco F1 update is now available via OTA (Over The Air) and will fully rollout within next few days to all units.

Xiaomi Poco F1 has received a new AOSP navigation buttons via the update. Technically, the update weighs 335 MB and comes with the build number MIUI V9.6.18.OEJMIFD. Xiaomi Poco F1 update optimises camera processing and improves image processing which will overall lead to better photo quality. The update carries some fixes which will resolve the issues with several apps. It also improves its dual microphone’s recording process and removes the Mi Roaming app from the device.

If you are lucky enough to have the Poco F1 then note that the update will hit the device soon. Usually, update takes a few days time to reach each and every unit but you can also manually check for it. You can do so by heading over to the Settings > System Update>> and can check for the new update. Also, make sure to connect with WiFi, if you want to save some carrier data.

Yesterday, Global Product Head at Pocophone, Jai Mani, confirmed that Poco F1 bootloader unlock time has been reduced to three days.

Additionally, Xiaomi Pocophone F1 carries Snapdragon 845 on board with 6/64 GB, 6/128GB and 8/256 GB of storage. It runs on Android 8.1 Oreo with MIUI 9.6 on the top with 6.18-inch Full HD+ IPS LCD display. The Poco F1 flaunts dual camera 12 megapixel +5 megapixel on the back and 20 megapixel selfie camera powered with AI on the front. The major pro of the device is its price and it can be termed as cheapest Android device running Snapdragon 845.

How many of you have got your hands-on Poco F1 ?

After Huawei posted camera samples taken from a DSLR pretending them to be shot from the Nova 3i, and after various Chinese smartphone were caught cheating on benchmarks, now even Xiaomi is trying to promote its latest flagship by posting fake photos. The company’s top exec Donovan Sung posted a new camera sample on Instagram to promote the Poco F1. But some Reddit users immediately discovered that this camera sample is far from being new and it wasn’t taken from Xiaomi Poco F1‘s dual cameras.

Indeed, Donovan Sung had already posted this photo in April to promote the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S, and it also contained the watermark highlighting that it has been shot on Mi Mix 2S AI dual camera. He canceled the watermark, filtered the photo, then reposted it on Instagram saying that it has been taken from the new Poco F1. This was probably done because, in order to guarantee a very affordable price while keeping a flagship hardware side, the company decided to equip the handset with inferior cameras compared with other Mi flagships.

Indeed, while the primary sensor is borrowed from the Mi 8 (the primary sensor has a 12 MP resolution and a f/1.9 aperture), the secondary one is a cheap 5 MP lens with f/2.0 and it is used for capturing depth information. On the other hand, there is to consider that this is the most affordable device with a Snapdragon 845 chipset inside, which is the best Qualcomm SoC at the moment. It is especially thought for gamers and for the most advanced users, even though it comes with a cheap polycarbonate design to cut costs.
