The Chinese giant is providing a very long software support for its phones, even though the stable version of Android 8.0 Oreo is yet to make its debut on the recent flagships of the company. But in the meantime, the first Xiaomi Redmi Note from 2014 and the Redmi 1s have been updated to MIUI 9.

Both these devices were released about 4 years ago, but they have been updated to the latest version of the Mi user interface in 2018. The version of MIUI arrived on Xiaomi Redmi Note and Xiaomi Redmi 1s is the 9.2.2.0, but even though it is the latest version of the user interface, it is still based on Android 4.4 KitKat and not on Android Nougat like the other recent phones updated. Further, the security patch remains very old: it is the one from October 2016. Anyways, this update is still a great thing and it brings the important features of the new MIUI 9 on these two old phones.

Among these features, there is the split screen mode which allows you to open two apps in the same screen, the Search for Apps feature, the Dual Apps which allows having two accounts on a single app in the same device, the customizable Quick Cards and much more. Xiaomi Redmi 1s was released with MIUI 6.0 out of the box. It is actually a low-end device with a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 SoC running at a max frequency of 1.6 GHz. The SoC is paired with just 1 GB of RAM and 8 GB of internal storage. Xiaomi Redmi Note has an octa-core MediaTek MT6592 processor with a max frequency of 1.7 GHz and it was released in two configurations with 1 and 2 GB of RAM.

Looks like ASUS is trying to steal the spot light from Meizu today. The Taiwanese giant has just announced a new product in the market called as the ASUS Pegasus X002. Unlike the name which sounds mighty and powerful, the device itself would be a mid-ranger but will be priced aggressively to compete with existing budget offerings like Xiaomi Redmi 1S and the Meizu Blue Charm K52.

Before we move on to the specs, lets take a look at its name. There is something peculiar about the name Pegasus especially for ASUS. Not many would know that the company name, ASUS is inspired by Pegasus, the winged horse from Greek Mythology that depicts wisdom and knowledge. So, even though this is a mid-ranger, the company could be looking to take over the market with this cheap yet powerful offering.

As for the tech specs, the ASUS Pegasus comes with a 5-inch 1280 x 720p display. There’s a 64-bit 1.5GHz MT6732 processor powering the device along with 2GB RAM and 16GB internal storage which can be further expanded via MicroSD. At the back, there is an 8MP camera sensor while up front, there is a 5MP shooter. The rear shooter comes with ultra-picture quality mode and can synthesize a number of pictures together to form an ultra-high resolution 30MP image. The phone supports a 2500 mAh battery on board. The Pegasus runs on Android 4.4 KitKat OS with Zen UI on top. The Zen UI is smart enough to place your most used apps at the right spot which will save you some time. It supports 4G TD-LTE / TD- CDMA and GSM networks and supports dual SIM dual standby.

ASUS has priced the Pegasus aggressively and the phone will be available for sale for just 799 Yuan which comes to around $129. Pre-orders start today!

This is a great price for a phone with such features and will compete directly with smartphones like Xiaomi Redmi 1S. However, the company has not announced any plans for Pegasus release outside of China but we expect more details soon.

If Pegasus does make it to international markets, do you think the phone can take on Xiaomi’s Redmi 1S which has been very popular among budget customers? Another important point to consider will be its availability, whether the phone will be available without any registration or will it follow Xiaomi’s model. There are lots more questions that needs to be answered, but lets wait and watch.

Xiaomi India has announced the first flash sale of 40,000 units of its affordable smartphone, the Redmi 1s on Flipkart on 2nd September. Customers have already taken to the e-commerce site to register for this flash sale. Registrations will continue till midnight 1st September and reports suggest that nearly one hundred thousand people have already registered for this much awaited sale. Priced at INR 5,999, the phone fits the bill of a pocket friendly smartphone and will surely catch up quickly with the Indian population. The phone was initially launched at a price of INR 6,999 (Just around $100) but the company has slashed the price right before announcing the flash sale.

The Redmi 1S might be light on the pocket but is packed with decent features like:

4.7 inch HD (1280×720 pixels) display

powered by a 1.6GHz Snapdragon 400 quad-core processor with 1 GB RAM

8-megapixel rear camera and 1.6-megapixel front-facing camera with flash

It runs on Android 4.3 Jelly Bean

Internal memory of 8 GB, expandable up to 64 GB

Supports WiFi, GPS, Bluetooth and dual-Sim format

Redmi 1S will e pitted against the Motorola Moto E which is priced at INR 6,999. The former presents slightly better specifications like larger display, better camera specifications, slightly enhanced processor and a lower cost as compared to the Moto E. Competitive performance will, however, be judged when the phone lands in the market and finally reaches the consumer.

After the release of the Redmi 4G LTE version here comes another fascinating smartphone, the Xiaomi Redmi 1s with 4g LTE. The Xiaomi Redmi 1S with 4G LTE was launched on August 16 and it has recorded a good nuber of sales in the first week. This version of Xiaomi is equipped with high-speed networking.

Though android jelly bean is okay, still the MIUI V5 is the best for Redmi 4G LTE. It has already received a good feedback in China and many other consumers around the globe are waiting for it to be available in their country. Though this version has been compared to several smartphones but it consists a specific quality that is its battery capacity which has been upgraded to 2200 mAh. What makes it more interesting is that it has an 8 megapixel rear camera. It has many specialized specs that are meant for expensive phones.

The Xiaomi Redmi 1s w/ 4G LTE has a 4.7-inch HD IPS display that will be very suitable and convenient for your usage. Apart from that, this 4G LTE of Xiaomi Redmi 1s has 1GB RAM and an 8GB internal storage capacity and also supports up to 32GB external Micro SD card. The only known disadvantage for this smartphone is that it has a single SIM card slot which can be a negative factor for those who want to buy a dual sim phone.

Despite of its high quality and standards, Xiaomi Redmi 1s with 4g LTE is being offered at a low price. You can put your hands on this phone at just $113 (approx) depending on your location.
