July 1st sees the release of Xiaomi’s Mipad, which is the company’s attempt to break into the tablet industry. It is powered by an NVIDIA Tegra K1 processor and has a display of 2048 x 1536. As regards the OS, it is running a custom app known as MIUI on top of Android. It is rumoured that the Mipad is to be one of the first to contain the NVIDIA quad-core ARM Cortex-A15 processor, boasting 192-core graphics. Other than this impressive addition, there is 2GB RAM, 16 GB of internal memory, 8MP rear camera, 5MP front-facing shooter, 802.11ac WiFi connectivity, Bluetooth 4.0, stereo speakers and a 6700mAh battery.

So is this a good effort? Well when you consider that the price is only $240, the Mipad is excellent value for a reasonably well-equipped piece of kit so should prove popular even in such a competitive market. It is as yet uncertain if the Mipad is set for release outside of China however
