Xiaomi Smart Band 9: Next-gen wearable may launch soon, spotted in Singapore

Xiaomi could be working on a successor to the Smart Band 8 series. The wearable was unveiled last year in the brand’s home market of China. But now, it appears that a Xiaomi Smart Band 9 may be launching soon. So here’s everything you need to know.

Xiaomi Smart Band 9 visits Singaporean Certification

Xiaomi Smart Band 8

The Chinese tech giant’s upcoming Smart Band model surfaced in the IMDA database, which is a Singaporean certification. This means that the Smart Band 9 will also be launching in the global market soon. The listing confirms the M2345B1 model number for the base version and the M2346B1 model number for the Smart Band 9 with NFC. Unfortunately, finer details regarding this device like its specs, features, design, and more are still unclear.

The Xiaomi Smart Band 9 and Smart Band 9 NFC were spotted in China, getting the radio certification as well last month. Back in February 2024, the previous-gen Smart Band 8 Pro finally went on sale in Europe, despite it first arriving in China in August 2023. On the other hand, the base Smart Band 8 launched back in April 2023. So now, we can expect the Smart Band 9 launch to be imminent as well. You can even check out review for the Smart Band 8 by clicking here.

Xiaomi Smart Band 9

It is worth noting that this is still just an unconfirmed report so take this news with a pinch of salt. For those unaware, last year’s Smart Band 8 features a 1.6-inch AMOLED display that offered 600 nits of peak brightness and Always On Display. It offered various health-related trackers like the heart-rate monitor, SpO2 sensor, sleep tracker, and menstrual cycle monitor. On a single full charge, the device lasted for up to 16 days. So we can expect similar specs along with some possible hardware upgrades under the hood.

Two new iPads surfaces on BIS certification, India launch seems near

Apple is expected to introduce new iPads soon, possibly including two iPad Pro and two iPad Air models. Recently, two new iPads appeared on the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) website, indicating an imminent launch in India.

The listing on the BIS website shows that the iPads are labeled with model numbers A2836 and A2837. However, as is typical with BIS listings, no specific device specifications have been revealed, leaving uncertainty about whether these are iPad Pro or iPad Air models.

The sequential nature of the model numbers hints at the possibility of these iPads being two variations of the same model. This could mean different screen sizes and connectivity options, like one having Wi-Fi only and the other offering both Wi-Fi and 5G. Historically, Apple has released iPad Pro models in multiple sizes.

Rumors suggest that the new iPad Pro will come in 11-inch and 13-inch sizes and may feature an OLED display. This would bring significant advantages over traditional LCD or Mini LED displays, including improved content viewing experience and a slimmer device design.

Moreover, leaked sketches of both the 11-inch and 13-inch iPad Pro models show a design similar to their predecessors, with the rear camera island positioned in the upper left corner and speakers and USB-C port located at the bottom.

Additionally, there are rumors of a larger 12.9-inch screen option for the upcoming iPad Air.

iPad Air 2024

Previous renders of the rumored new iPad Air from January show a front design similar to the 4th or 5th generation models but with a larger screen size to accommodate the 12.9-inch display. The back of the device appears to feature a longer, pill-shaped camera setup, akin to those seen on the iPhone X and XS.

There’s speculation that the next iPad Air could be powered by the M2 chip, an upgrade from the current M1 chip.

Next-Gen Samsung Galaxy Book 5 Pro Spotted with Intel Lunar Lake CPU & Arc GPU

Samsung is working on a new addition to its Galaxy Book 4 lineup, called the Galaxy Book 4 Edge. It will run on Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon X Elite chip.

In addition, Samsung seems to be readying the next generation of Galaxy Book 5 laptops. Recently, the Galaxy Book 5 Pro was spotted in SiSoftware’s benchmark database, featuring a processor from Intel’s Core Ultra 200 series.

The upcoming Intel processor is expected to be based on the Lunar Lake architecture and is expected to launch later this year. However, looks like the early samples have already reached the laptop manufacturers.

Samsung Galaxy Book 5 Pro

Lunar Lake is expected to introduce a new design for Intel’s CPU featuring four ‘Lion Cove’ performance cores and four ‘Skymont’ efficiency cores. It’s a change from the previous setup of two performance and eight efficiency cores in Meteor Lake U.

In total, the chip will house eight computing cores, and the benchmarks show a base clock speed of 1.6 GHz and a boost clock of 2.8 GHz, although these speeds are likely for early prototypes and will improve in subsequent versions.

Additional specifications of the chip include two 12 MB L3 caches (likely allocated for performance and efficiency cores respectively) and 2.5 MB L2 caches per core. The device will also feature 16 GB of LPDDR5X 8533 RAM.

Intel is also expected to equip Lunar Lake chips with Arc graphics based on the new Xe2 architecture.

According to the benchmark, the Galaxy Book 5 Pro variant will utilize a smaller iGPU configuration with 4 Xe cores, 64 execution units, 512 shaders, and an 8 MB L2 cache. While not as powerful as the top-tier Arc iGPU, it still represents a significant graphics enhancement for laptops.

Samsung Blames Google for the Touchscreen Issue on Galaxy S23

As covered previously, Samsung Galaxy S23 users are facing an annoyance: their touchscreens become unresponsive after installing the latest One UI 6.1 update. This glitch is messing up the user experience big time, forcing users to tap repeatedly just to get basic functions working. However, Samsung has pointed fingers towards none other than Google.

The company is working closely with Google to squash this bug

Apparently, a bug lurking within the Google Discover Feed app is causing all of this. According to a Samsung press release, the company is working alongside Google to squash this bug and deliver a permanent fix. In the meantime, a temporary solution exists: users can clear the Google app data in their settings. This should restore normal touchscreen functionality, but it’s not the most ideal situation.

Galaxy S23

While waiting for a permanent solution, it’s worth considering the bigger picture. Software updates are supposed to improve our devices, not introduce problems. This incident is one of those cases where seemingly unrelated apps can trigger unexpected issues, especially when you consider that One UI is Samsung’s default launcher running on Google’s Android. It’s a reminder that close collaboration between tech giants like Samsung and Google is crucial for a smooth user experience.

For Galaxy S23 users, this situation is a minor setback (hopefully). Let’s just hope that a permanent fix arrives soon, restoring the prime touchscreen experience that Galaxy S23 users expect.

You can Now Get a Sony PlayStation 5 Slim Delivered in 10 Minutes via Blinkit in India

Did you ever think we’d be able to order a whole PlayStation and it would be at our doorstep in 10 minutes? Even though this sounds absurd and downright convenient, Indian delivery service Blinkit is leaning into it. The CEO’s latest post on social media platform X announces that customers can now order a PlayStation 5 Slim (both the disc and digital versions), plus their controllers in India from their Blinkit account, and get it delivered to them in 10 minutes. Mind you, this console, at the time of launch wasn’t available anywhere due to scalpers and low stocks. Now we’re reaching the point where the console is accessible and priced justifiably. But what is Blinkit (in case you don’t know about it already)?

The PS5 Slim packs a powerful CPU, RAM, and custom GPU for all gaming needs

Blinkit, an Indian quick-commerce service focused on super fast deliveries, promises to get you your groceries and daily essentials in minutes so you can focus on more important things. They leverage technology and a wide partner network to achieve same-day deliveries, aiming to become a leading e-retail player in India. The company went online in December 2013, and since then, it has gained popularity through their “quick delivery” model that is available throughout the day (and even night in some big cities).

Sony Playstation 5

For those who’ve been on the cusp regarding the PlayStation 5 Slim, this might be the golden sign you were looking for. The PlayStation 5 Slim is Sony’s most capable console to date, with the only difference from the OG PS5 being storage space. The console boasts a super-fast SSD for significantly reduced loading times compared to previous consoles. As we mentioned, trade-off is limited storage space, so you might need to expand it with an M.2 SSD or an external drive (though the external drive won’t offer the same speed boost). The PS5 Slim also packs a powerful CPU, RAM, and custom GPU for high-resolution gaming with ray tracing for more realistic lighting effects.

As of now, only customers in Delhi NCR, Mumbai and Bengaluru can order PlayStations and controllers on Blinkit. At the moment, the company has said nothing about expanding to other cities, but that might happen soon. Stay tuned to Gizmochina for future coverage.
