Meanwhile, noteworthy developments are occurring in the mid-range sector. Here are the top 10 best-performing mid-range smartphones of November.

The next three entries on the list, namely the iQOO Z8, the iQOO Neo 7SE, and the Vivo S17 Pro are all powered by the Dimensity 8200 chip. The remaining four smartphones are powered by Dimensity 8200 Ultra and the 8100 Max chips.

So by the looks of it, the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 chip still appears to be dominating the mid-range segment in terms of performance. However, that might change soon a new generation of devices equipped with the latest Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 and Dimensity 8300 chips are beginning to arrive in the market. The Snapdragon 7 Gen 3-clad Honor 100 and the Redmi K70E equipped with the Dimensity 8300-Ultra have already made their debut in the market. AnTuTu Top 10: Vivo X100 gives Red Magic 9 Pro+ a run for its money

A new generation of flagship Android smartphones have arrived clad with the latest and greatest processors. And so, AnTuTu has officially released its November 2023 list of the top-performing devices. While some entries on the list were expected, there are a few surprises packed in as well.

AnTuTu Top 10 (by performance) in November 2023:

Antutu top 10 November 2023
  1. Red Magic 9 Pro+ (Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, 16GB+512GB): 2,188,631
  2. Vivo X100 (Dimensity 9300, 16GB+1TB): 2,184,153
  3. iQOO 12 (Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, 16GB+1TB): 2,174,484
  4. iQOO 12 Pro (Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, 16GB+1TB): 2,141,004
  5. vivo X100 Pro (Dimensity 9300, 16GB+1TB): 2,109,880
  6. Xiaomi 14 Pro (SD8 Gen 3, 16GB+512GB): 2,006,861
  7. Xiaomi 14 (Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, 16GB+512GB): 2,004,263
  8. iQOO 11S (Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, 16GB+512GB): 1,647,756
  9. OnePlus Ace 2 Pro (SD8 Gen 2, 24GB+1TB): 1,642,418
  10. Vivo X90 Pro+ (SD8 Gen 2, 12GB+512GB): 1,629,535
Red Magic 9 Pro

It comes as no surprise that the recently launched Red Magic 9 Pro+ has taken the performance crown with 2,188,631 points since performance is kind of the bread and butter of the brand. The phone comes equipped with the beefiest cooling system on the list that gives more headroom to squeeze out more performance without throttling due to heat.

Vivo X100
Vivo X100

That being said, the most surprising thing on this list is the Dimensity 9300 clad Vivo X100 capturing the second spot with 2,184,153 points. The difference between it and the X100 and the Red Magic 9 Pro+ is just around 4500 points, which people familiar with the AnTuTu benchmark know is almost nothing. It makes us wonder if Red Magic decided to release a Dimensity 9300 version of the Red Magic 9 series device, what the performance on it be like.

Vivo IQOO 12
iQOO 12

Moving on to the third position, the iQOO 12 has also shown impressive performance achieving an average of 2,174,484 points. iQOO is also known for making performance-oriented devices with top-notch cooling systems so it is no surprise that the device can push the processor to its limits without running into heating issues.

XIaomi 14 series
Xiaomi 14 series

The Xiaomi 14 and Xiaomi 14 Pro, previously holding the top two positions last month, have now surpassed the 2 million point mark this month. While this marks an improvement from their performance in the previous month, they have now slid down to the 6th and 7th positions. The enhanced performance is likely attributed to refinements, possibly overlooked in the rush to claim the title of the first smartphone featuring the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip. We can expect the performance to improve even more in the coming days.

The last three positions are currently occupied by the iQOO 11S, the OnePlus Ace 2 Pro, and the Vivo X90 Pro+, all of which use the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip. With the launch of the OnePlus 12 and other flagships on the horizon, we can expect a couple of these devices to vanish from the December top 10 list.

Speaking of the OnePlus 12, the brand boldly declares that the device could hit an impressive 2,333,033 points, placing it in the running for the AnTuTu performance crown. However, the real litmus test is consistency. All eyes are on December 5 to discern if this claimed performance is a one-time showstopper or a sustained feat. Here’s the OnePlus 12 roundup to fill you in on everything known about the device so far.

OnePlus 12 Roundup: Design, Specs, Performance & everything else known so far

After much anticipation, OnePlus is set to introduce its latest flagship smartphone, the OnePlus 12, following the success of the well-received OnePlus 11. With high expectations surrounding the upcoming release, here’s a comprehensive overview of everything you should know about the OnePlus 12 ahead of its scheduled launch in China on December 5.

Design & display

OnePlus is opting for a relatively straightforward approach without introducing significant alterations to the current design. The phone retains its quad-cutout circular camera module, albeit with notable internal detailing. The brand indicates drawing inspiration from classic timepieces, evident in the grooves encircling the camera module, resembling minute lines on a clock. The power button and volume rockers are still on the left side, and the right side features the power button and an alert slider.

OnePlus 12

The brand has unveiled three color options through official teasers, namely Blank (white), Green, and Rock Black. In addition to that, a recent leak claimed that the phone could come with a wood texture back, paying homage to the OG OnePlus One Walnut Wood Edition.

On the front, the phone will showcase a large 6.82-inch BOE AMOLED Display, boasting a resolution of 3168 x 1440 pixels and a smooth 120Hz refresh rate. The 2K+ display gently curves towards the edges, incorporating advanced features like 2160Hz PWM dimming and a pixel density of 510, facilitated by a diamond-shaped pixel arrangement.

According to the brand, the phone achieves an impressive maximum brightness of 4500 nits, surpassing the current flagship standard ranging between 2400-2600 nits. Oppo’s Display P1 chip is integrated into the device, promising enhanced quality and efficiency for an optimized viewing experience. A teaser also talks about a new in-screen fingerprint scanner which is slimmer and more responsive than previous iterations. Lastly, the phone’s display will feature OnePlus’s Rain Water Touch feature which eliminates ghost touches and false touches.

Performance & specs

The OnePlus 12 will be powered by the cutting-edge Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip out of the Qualcomm camp. The processor comes with some noteworthy improvements to its performance thanks to the new chip structure and a peak clock speed of 3.3GHz. It also has a new Adreno 750 GPU onboard that helps improve graphics performance.

OnePlus 12 AnTuTu v10 Benchmark

The brand has shared an insane AnTuTu benchmark score of 2,333,033 points which will put it in contention for the best-performance smartphones. However, sustained performance is usually the key, and for that, the brand plans to incorporate a massive 9140mm² vapor chamber cooling system. Overall, the cooling system will cover a vast 38,547mm² area, making sure that the high-power chip can sustain its performance without throttling.

The phone will be available in multiple LPDDR5x RAM and UFS 4.0 storage configurations including a 24GB + 1TB option. The battery will be getting a boost in capacity, bumping it up to 5,400mAh. 3C certification has revealed 100W wired and 50W wireless charging support. There will also be a new vibration motor onboard which the brand is calling the “Bionic Vibration Motor Turbo”. It claims to be 18% more powerful and 60% faster. As for software, the phone will debut with Android 14-based ColorOS 14 (OxygenOS 14 in the global market).

Camera

Camera is another department that’s getting major upgrades. Moving on from the IMX890 sensor of the OnePlus 11, the OnePlus 12 will debut with the shiny new 50MP Sony Lytia dual-layer stacked camera sensor. This sensor is said to be a collaboration between OnePlus and Sony, however, other reports have mentioned that the device will feature a 50MP Sony LYT-T808 sensor with an aperture of f/1.6 and a focal length of 23mm. One thing is for sure users can expect some significant improvements over last year’s camera.

Other than the primary sensor, the phone will feature a 48-megapixel Sony IMX581 ultra-wide lens with an aperture of f/2.2 and a focal length of 14mm and a 64-megapixel OmniVision OV64B periscope telephoto camera, with aperture of f/2.6 and a focal length of 70mm, enabling 3x optical zoom.

Global availability

While the China launch is happening on December 5, customers outside of China will have to wait a bit more. A recent report has mentioned that the OnePlus 12 will start its global journey with its launch in India on January 23. Stay tuned for our coverage of the OnePlus 12 launch on December 5. In the meantime, you can check out our ColorOS 14 review, which is the operating system onboard the OnePlus 12.

Forecasting the Future: NASA and IBM Join Forces for AI in Weather

Artificial intelligence technologies are increasingly prevalent, finding applications across various industries. Many companies are incorporating AI into their products and services, enhancing overall quality and efficiency. While this trend brings about positive advancements, it also raises certain concerns.

You may have come across statements predicting that “AI will take over your job.” Recently, meteorologists have joined the ranks of those potentially facing unemployment, as NASA and IBM collaborate on an AI model designed to monitor the Earth’s climate 24/7. Here are the details…

NASA and IBM AI Partnership for Climate Observation

NASA and IBM are jointly developing an AI model focused on weather and climate observation. This technology is expected to bring revolutionary changes compared to existing meteorological applications. Although AI is already in use in this field, the current models are task-specific, akin to technologies like ChatGPT, functioning as simple emulators, as per IBM’s description.

NASA and IBM, however, aspire to go beyond accurate predictions. Their collaborative effort aims to create an AI system that continuously observes the Earth’s climate and weather conditions around the clock. Anticipated features of this AI model include predicting meteorological events, extracting high-resolution information from low-resolution data, and forecasting occurrences ranging from aircraft turbulence to forest fires.

The shared objective of both institutions is to enhance the accuracy of weather predictions and mitigate potential disasters. For instance, this technology could predict forest fires caused by extreme heat, prevalent in various parts of the world, including our country, during the summer months. While achieving 100% accuracy may be challenging, the AI model is expected to be highly beneficial for implementing preventive measures.

The integration of this technology into our daily lives, drawing on data from NASA satellites and IBM technologies, remains uncertain.

OpenAI’s GPT Store Delayed Launch, Stronger Community on Focus

Recently, OpenAI encountered a series of disruptions that notably involved CEO Sam Altman, causing a temporary shift in the company’s focus. Despite these challenges, the organization redirected its efforts towards advancing ChatGPT. In a recent announcement, they revealed a postponement regarding the introduction of the GPT Store feature, originally intended to empower users by allowing them to create and share personalized GPT models. This delay has led to the rescheduling of the launch to 2024. Here are the details…

OpenAI delays GPT Store launch to 2024

Initially conceived as a platform to enable users to generate income, the rollout of the GPT Store has been halted. OpenAI’s new focus is aimed at enhancing the social aspects of the ChatGPT experience in the coming months. Through this upcoming platform, users will have access to an assortment of GPT models created by the broader community.

OpenAI

The GPT Store was first unveiled during OpenAI’s DevDay conference, with initial plans set for a December release. However, the company attributed the delay to “unexpected events” without delving into specific details. Speculations suggest that these unforeseen circumstances might be tied to recent upheavals within the technology sector, including the temporary removal and subsequent reinstatement of CEO Sam Altman at OpenAI.

At present, developers can share their GPT models using direct links. Nevertheless, the anticipated store is anticipated to play a pivotal role, not only in facilitating widespread distribution of these models but also in providing developers with opportunities for monetization. OpenAI has expressed its commitment to sharing revenue generated from store subscriptions with noteworthy developers, aligning with its goal to foster a thriving community-driven ecosystem.

Xbox Game Pass Ambition: Extending Services and First-Party Experiences to Nintendo, PlayStation

When it comes to their core strategies, Sony and Microsoft take different approaches. Sony focuses on creating exclusive games for PlayStation to boost console sales, while Microsoft’s Xbox aims to generate revenue through its Game Pass service. Microsoft plans to make Game Pass available on various platforms, including competitors’ consoles without exclusivity constraints. Here are the details…

Xbox Game Pass and Exclusive Titles to Embrace Nintendo and PlayStation

This information comes directly from Tim Stuart, the head of Xbox’s finance department, who mentioned during an event this week, “Our mission is to make Game Pass playable on any screen where you can play games. This plan certainly includes Nintendo Switch and PlayStation as well.” While Phil Spencer, the head of Xbox, has hinted at similar intentions before, this is the first time an executive openly mentioned PlayStation by name.

However, Microsoft’s enthusiasm alone isn’t sufficient; cooperation from Sony and Nintendo is crucial, and that may prove challenging. Two main reasons contribute to this challenge. First, games from the Xbox Game Pass library are already available in services like PlayStation Plus and the digital stores of those platforms. This issue could potentially be resolved by allowing only Microsoft games to be included, ensuring console manufacturers don’t lose commissions.

The more significant challenge, though, is the reluctance of Sony and Nintendo to contribute to Microsoft’s profits. Even though Xbox may not approach competition as aggressively as before, its Asian competitors may not share the same sentiment. Consequently, they may hesitate to allow the Game Pass service, fearing it could bring millions of new subscribers and billions of dollars to their rivals.

It’s important to note that these discussions are speculative at this point. Only time will tell whether we will witness such a scenario unfolding in the future.

The New Action Button in iPhone 16 Series Revealed

Apple’s decision to replace the iconic mute/silent switch in the iPhone 15 Pro series with an Action button has stirred discussions among users. While this alteration presents various advantages, its practicality has become a subject of debate. Recent reports circulating in the tech sphere suggest that Apple is gearing up to introduce a revamped version of the Action button in its forthcoming iPhone 16 series. Here are the details…

iPhone 16 Upgraded Action Button with Innovations and User-Friendly Features

The Action button, a feature embedded in the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max, serves as a versatile tool enabling users to execute specific tasks, such as triggering the camera or activating the flashlight. Positioned as a small mechanical switch situated on the device’s right side, it’s a notable departure from the conventional mute/silent switch.

Apple iPhone 16

Rumors speculate that the overhauled Action button in the iPhone 16 series will bear semblance to the functionality of the Home button seen in earlier iPhone models. This revised button may potentially sport a larger design and incorporate touch-sensitive capabilities. Leaks and insider information hint that this redesigned Action button won’t be an exclusive feature but will extend across the entire lineup of the iPhone 16 series.

Multiple sources claim to have spotted the button in various iPhone 16 prototypes, with internal documents referring to it as “Atlas.” Apple’s motive behind this change appears to revolve around enhancing user experience. By making the Action button more intuitive and adaptable, the tech giant aims to cater to the preferences of users. Moreover, this strategic move could also serve to appeal to former iPhone users who favor a fully touch-sensitive screen experience, potentially widening the company’s customer base.

However, murmurs from earlier reports suggest a probable price hike in the upcoming iPhone 16 series. This increase in cost could be an attempt by Apple to maintain a balance and prevent a significant price disparity compared to its predecessor, the iPhone 15 series.

Meta exposes massive China-based networks on Social Media

Meta, the parent company of Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, disclosed its takedown of a vast network of over 4,700 fake accounts based in China. The sophisticated operation involved users posing as Americans, strategically spreading polarizing content related to US politics and US-China relations.

These accounts, detailed in Meta’s quarterly threat report, impersonated figures such as Nancy Pelosi, Gretchen Whitmer, Ron DeSantis, Matt Gaetz, and Jim Jordan. Strikingly, the network exhibited no ideological consistency, showcasing a blend of conflicting viewpoints on issues like abortion and US-China relations.

The company’s moderation rules explicitly prohibit “coordinated inauthentic behavior,” where groups of accounts collaborate using false identities to mislead users. The Chinese network was detected and halted by Meta before gaining traction among real users.

This disclosure follows Meta’s removal of five coordinated influence networks from China in the current year alone. The fake accounts, totaling 4,789, engaged in a campaign related to national politics and China, praising China, criticizing its critics, and mimicking real online posts by US politicians.

Ben Nimmo, Meta’s global threat intelligence lead, emphasized the importance of vigilance as foreign threat actors target people ahead of upcoming elections. In a briefing on Meta’s latest security report, Nimmo highlighted the deceptive online campaigns originating from China, issuing a specific warning about their intentions to influence the 2024 elections in the United States and beyond.

Notably, Meta tracked the source of these networks to China but did not explicitly attribute them to the Chinese government. The revelation underscores the evolving landscape of online influence operations, with foreign actors adapting strategies to leverage authentic political debates rather than creating entirely original content.

While Russia remains the most prolific source of such networks, with a focus on undermining support for its war against Ukraine, there has been a notable shift in Russian campaigns. Websites associated with Russia-based campaigns have redirected their focus to exploit the conflict between Hamas and Israel to tarnish the image of the United States.

As Meta continues to combat deceptive campaigns, the disclosure raises concerns about the potential pivot of influence operations as relations with China become a central election topic. With the intensification of election campaigns, there is an anticipation that foreign actors may leverage authentic debates to further their objectives.

In a broader context, the information presented in Meta’s security report highlights the persistent challenges social media platforms face in curbing coordinated inauthentic behavior and the potential impact on democratic processes globally.

This increase is significant, considering the overall sales for the year reached 722,176 vehicles, up by 14% from the previous year.

Kia EV5

The Kia EV6, another all-electric model, saw a remarkable increase in sales, doubling its figures from the previous year with 1,290 units sold in November alone. Kia’s overall EV sales increased by 120% year-over-year, though exact numbers weren’t provided. Estimates suggest that the total battery electric vehicle (BEV) sales for November could be around 2,400 units, considering the sales of the Kia Niro EV.

For the year-to-date figures, Kia sold over 17,600 EV6 models in the U.S., despite a weaker first half of the year. The Niro EV’s performance was also notable, nearly reaching 10,000 units sold through October, up 37% from the previous year. These figures highlight a significant shift in consumer preferences towards electric vehicles.

Eric Watson, Vice President of Sales Operations at Kia America, expressed optimism about the brand’s future. The increasing demand for Kia’s diverse lineup, including rugged SUVs, sports sedans, and innovative EVs, reflects the evolving automotive landscape. With new models like the EV9 SUV and the updated Sorento SUV on the horizon, Kia is looking to continue its growth trajectory in a really, really competitive market.
