After Huawei’s Mate 60 series, the Nova 12 series may get 5G capable Kirin chips

Huawei’s upcoming Nova 12 series devices may support 5G connectivity with the company’s in-house Kirin SoC. The Nova 12 is expected to be powered by a Kirin 8 series chip, whereas the Nova 12 Pro is expected to get a Kirin 9 series chip. Although specific details aren’t confirmed yet.

Despite the technological limitations, Huawei continues to make devices that stand out from the rest

According to credible sources in the digital community, the Nova 12 is expected to get some exclusive features that aren’t available even on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3-powered flagships. It may be due to some Kirin-exclusive capabilities, as we see on Google Tensor chips. One of the exclusive features might be satellite connectivity.

Other than the SoC, the Nova 12 series is expected to boast a 60 megapixel wide-angle selfie camera with a triple rear camera setup on the back. It includes a 50 megapixel main, a 12 megapixel ultrawide that supports macro, and a 50 megapixel telephoto. The device is backed by a 4800mAh battery and 66W fast charging.

Aside from the more premium Kirin 9 series chip, the Nova 12 Pro also gets a slightly bigger 4900mAh battery and a faster 88W charging support.

The Nova 12 series might release as early as December this year. Nonetheless, it’s also important to note that the supply of Huawei’s Kirin chips is currently below the demand. So, the availability of the devices might also be insufficient.

However, the company is working hard to surpass the technological limitations they have and is continuing to contribute to the development of newer technologies and making great devices. An example of this might be the addition of foldable technologies in the mid-range segment. In addition, as DCS expects, the company’s flagship devices may get a significant camera hardware upgrade.

Samsung trademarks the Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 7 monikers

Samsung has basically confirmed the next two generations of its flip phones. The company announced the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5 foldable smartphones earlier this year. But now, the Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 7 monikers have been confirmed.

Samsung registers the Galaxy Z Flip 6 & Galaxy Z Flip 7 moniker

The South Korean tech giant has already trademarked the names Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 7. These monikers were confirmed via documentation that was recently published in South Korea and on the WIPO website. Based on the brand’s launch cycle, we can expect the Galaxy Z Flip 6 could be launched in the summer of 2024. On the other hand, the Galaxy Z Flip 7 would be next in line as Samsung’s new clamshell folding flip phone.

Unfortunately, Samsung Electronics has only trademarked the names of future devices so finer details about the next generation of Z Flip series devices are still unclear. This means that there are no details regarding their specification or design. But since these are premium grade foldable handsets, we can expect them to feature top notch specs and features. Back in August, we covered a report regarding the Galaxy Z Flip 6. Reportedly, the company is planning on bringing major camera improvements to its upcoming foldable phone models.

Tesla, Audi, and Nissan Electric Vehicles Showcase Strong Winter Performance

As winter is on the landscape, electric vehicle (EV) owners often brace for the range reduction that cold weather brings. However, recent studies have shown that certain EVs, notably from Tesla, Audi, and Nissan, are defying the norm with minimal range loss even in chilly conditions.

The winter range of these vehicles is approximately 70% of their normal range

A comprehensive analysis by Recurrent, a battery health data startup, sheds light on this phenomenon. By examining over 10,000 EVs during the 2022-2023 winter, they discovered that the average winter range of these vehicles was approximately 70% of their normal range. This is a significant insight, as it indicates that not all EVs are equally impacted by cold weather.

The science behind this range reduction is rooted in chemistry. Cold temperatures impede the battery’s ability to release energy efficiently. Furthermore, heating the cabin consumes additional power, further lowering the range. Innovations like heat pumps, which repurpose waste heat from the battery and motors, have emerged as a game-changer in mitigating this loss.

Audi’s E-Tron (Q8 E-Tron from MY2023 onwards) stands out in this regard. With only a 16% drop in its winter range, it exemplifies how effective thermal management can make a substantial difference. The E-Tron, with its pioneering heat pump system, can reclaim up to 3 kilowatts of electricity from waste heat, showcasing the potential of this technology.

Similarly, the 2019 Nissan Leaf, despite a 23% range reduction at 32 degrees Fahrenheit, demonstrates a marked improvement over its predecessors. The older models were more affected by temperature variations due to less sophisticated thermal management systems.

Tesla’s models, particularly the Model 3, Model Y, and Model X, also exhibit remarkable thermal efficiency, losing only 24% of their range on average in winter conditions. Tesla’s innovative heat pump, introduced in 2021, plays a crucial role here, featuring advancements like a “super manifold” and an “octo valve” for enhanced efficiency. These findings not only highlight the advancements in EV technology but also serve as a testament to the growing resilience of EVs in diverse climatic conditions.

Investing in America’s Future: A Fresh Look at the U.S. Battery Industry Expansion

In latest news, the United States has earmarked $3.5 billion for expanding domestic battery processing facilities. This investment, part of the Inflation Reduction Act and the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, aims to enhance the local production of advanced batteries and battery minerals, marking a critical step towards energy independence and technological advancement.

The US currently relies heavily on China and South America for raw materials

The rationale behind this investment is multifaceted. Currently, the U.S. relies heavily on countries like China and South America for critical minerals like lithium-ion, essential for battery production. This dependency not only poses a strategic risk but also hinders the nation’s ability to innovate and lead in the rapidly evolving EV market. By focusing on local production, the U.S. aims to reduce this reliance and establish a robust, self-sufficient battery industry.

China

Why is this important? The global race for EV dominance is heating up. With China manufacturing a whopping 75% of the world’s lithium-ion batteries, the U.S. faces stiff competition. Moreover, the Biden administration’s goal of net-zero emissions by 2050 and its projection that EVs will account for half of all new light-duty vehicle sales by 2030 underscores the need for a strong domestic battery industry.

The benefits of this investment are manifold. First, it could significantly enhance the U.S.’s global competitiveness in the clean energy sector. Second, it promises the creation of good-paying jobs, contributing to economic growth. Third, it’s a stride towards a cleaner, more sustainable future, aligning with global environmental goals.

However, it’s essential to temper expectations with realism. Building an industry, especially one as complex as battery production, is a marathon, not a sprint. The immediate impact on consumers may be limited, but the long-term benefits could be transformative.

U.S. Electric Vehicle Sales Surge in Q3 2023, Defying Industry Skepticism

Amidst the rapid upward growth of electric vehicles (EVs), the United States market has emerged as a hotbed of activity, defying the skepticism around the industry’s growth. As we reflect on the third quarter of 2023, an interesting pattern emerges from the sales data analyzed by InsideEVs, highlighting a robust surge in the EV sector.

A total of 130,000 electric vehicles were sold during this period

Surprisingly, a staggering 130,000 all-electric vehicles were sold by 19 prominent brands during this period, marking a nearly double increase from the previous year. This boom signals not just a transient trend but a consistent upward trajectory expected to propel into the next year.

Tesla Model 3

A key observation is the varied reporting practices among manufacturers, particularly new players like Tesla, Rivian, Polestar, and Lucid, who do not specify sales by country or region. Despite this, traditional carmakers have been more transparent about their all-electric car sales, offering a clearer picture of the market dynamics. This analysis encompasses sales volumes from 19 brands, including well-known names like Audi, BMW, General Motors, Ford, and Mercedes-Benz, among others.

Ford leads the pack in Q3 sales (excluding Tesla), with Hyundai and Chevrolet following closely. Interestingly, Chevrolet’s position is noteworthy, especially as it plans to discontinue some models like the Bolt EV/Bolt EUVs.

The sales figures for the first nine months of 2023 offer a closer look at the competitive landscape. Chevrolet and Ford are neck and neck in the race to be the top EV brand after Tesla. Hyundai, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, and Volkswagen also show significant sales, demonstrating the increasing appeal of EVs across diverse consumer segments.

The data hints at varying degrees of commitment among manufacturers towards the EV market. For instance, Toyota‘s modest BEV sales contrast starkly with those of Nissan and Volkswagen, indicating differing strategies in the EV space.

As of the end of September, the cumulative volume for the 19 brands discussed stood at over 316,000 units, a remarkable 94% increase year-over-year. This growth is a testament to the established brands’ rising dominance in the BEV segment, which now accounts for a significant portion of the market.

Ayaneo Slide

The Ayaneo Slide offers a unique feature with a hidden QWERTY keyboard with RGB lights beneath the screen, setting it apart from other popular handheld gaming devices. The screen is capable of hovering within a range of 10° to 30° angles.

The device features the Master controller with responsive conductive rubber buttons for the directional pad, ABXY buttons, and shoulder buttons. It also incorporates hall effect joysticks and linear hall effect triggers, which are known for their precision, durability, and lack of drift or dead zones, providing a comfortable and highly precise gaming experience.

In terms of connectivity and storage, the Ayaneo Slide is well-equipped.
