Interaction is highly intuitive, through voice commands, a touchpad, or Bluetooth-connected headphones. Plus, with Tidal integration and robust photography tools, it aims to please music and photo enthusiasts alike. Polestar Recognizes Weak Global EV Demand as it Cuts Down on Goals & Profit Forecasts

Polestar, the electric car maker, has had to adjust its sails in the rough seas of today’s market. The company aimed high with a goal of 80,000 cars delivered this year, but now they’re steering towards a more modest 60,000. It’s a sign of the times; even with a jump in sales and a boost in revenue, they can’t escape the currents of a weaker global demand, especially in the electric vehicle (EV) sector.

The company is trying to keep its profit margins afloat as the costs go higher

Despite the headwinds, there’s a silver lining. Polestar’s recent sales are up by half compared to last year, and while they’re now aiming for fewer deliveries, they’ve still managed to sell over 40,000 cars in nine months. That’s no small feat in a world where wallets are tightening.

Polestar 4

The challenge doesn’t end with sales numbers. Profits are also taking a hit, with expectations halved from 4% to 2%. Price hikes haven’t been enough to keep the profit margins afloat as the cost of doing business in the EV industry climbs.

On the financial front, Polestar isn’t running on empty. They’ve got a decent stash of cash and fresh loans from Volvo Cars and an affiliate of Geely Holding. This is reassuring for those keeping an eye on the company’s vitality.

Looking ahead, Polestar isn’t just cruising along; they’re planning an acceleration. A new model is set to roll out in China soon, with customer deliveries by year’s end. And by 2026, they’re looking to expand their lineup to five models. That’s ambition with a capital ‘A’.

Even with these plans, Polestar acknowledges the road to profitability is a marathon, not a sprint, with a break-even point projected for 2025. It’s a bumpy ride for the EV industry, but Polestar’s journey is one to watch. The company is carving a niche for itself in the industry, and it will be interesting to see how other EV makers rise up.

iPhone 12 mini makes a return in refurbished condition

Apple discontinued the iPhone 12 mini with the launch of the iPhone 14 series in September 2022. However, for a while, the company continued to sell the device in refurbished condition on its website in the US.

The refurbished variant hit the shelves in late July 2022, which was months before the handset even got discontinued. But the product was only available in 128GB version.

Now, more than a year later, Apple has brought back the iPhone 12 mini refurbished model in stock on its US website. But this time around, the device is offered with 256GB storage and at a cheaper price.

Apple iPhone 12 mini

The iPhone 13 mini was discontinued after the iPhone 15 lineup went official this September. With this, the ‘mini’ lineup was officially dead and it was no longer listed for sale, including refurbished variants.

Surprisingly, two months later, the iPhone 12 mini 256GB makes a return in its refurbished avatar on Apple’s US website. It is listed at $529, which makes it $50 cheaper than the 128GB refurbished variant ($579) that was sold earlier.

Currently, it is the only iPhone mini smartphone officially sold by Apple. Unfortunately, it is limited to the US.

Apple debuted its inaugural 5G iPhones in the form of the iPhone 12 lineup in the fall of 2020. The series also introduced the ‘mini’ model for the very first time.

Though netizens praised the return of the small form factor, the market preference is towards large-screen phones. Thus, the sales of iPhone 12 mini and its successor iPhone 13 mini tanked compared to the regular and pro models.

US Legislators Propose Clarity Act to Block Chinese Blockchain Networks

Amidst developing China-US tensions, US legislators have proposed a bill to prevent federal agencies from using Chinese blockchain networks. This bill, named the Clarity Act, aims to sever ties with certain Chinese firms, reflecting a broader strategy to maintain the US’s digital control, especially in the Web3 space.

This move comes when US and China are already dealing with data security concerns

The proposed legislation takes direct aim at the Blockchain-based Service Network (BSN) and Conflux Network, amongst others, due to concerns over national security and data privacy. BSN, in particular, has been a cornerstone of China’s blockchain strategy, funded by state-owned entities and designed to advance blockchain use without cryptocurrencies. While BSN attempts to globalize with its Spartan Network, US officials remain wary.

The bill’s introduction reflects a larger narrative of the US seeking to protect its interests in the digital era. While the Clarity Act targets blockchain, it’s part of a bigger picture where the US scrutinizes Chinese technology on all fronts, from TikTok to 5G. The bill also calls for an assessment of risks, including those posed by alternatives to the SWIFT banking network and China’s Belt and Road Initiative.

This legislative move signals a precautionary stance, ensuring sensitive American data doesn’t fall into foreign hands. However, the bill’s success is uncertain, lacking support from key committee leaders. Yet, its very existence confirms a bipartisan understanding that the US must guard its technological frontiers against rivals, especially China. This stance echoes the sentiments of US Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, who advocates for a competitive yet non-confrontational stance towards China.

Deadly Robot Mistook Human for Box, Killed Man, and Raised Safety Concerns!

The popularity of artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics technology is growing rapidly. While many people and companies see this as the future, others are concerned about the potential consequences. For many, the biggest fear is that AI will eventually turn against humanity and bring about our demise. It seems that these fears may be well-founded. In a recent incident in South Korea, a robot worker killed a man after mistaking him for a box. Here are the details…

Deadly Robot Accident Raises Alarms About the Safety of AI-Powered Machines

The tragedy occurred at a factory in Seoul, South Korea. The factory had been using robotic workers to reduce costs, as have many of their competitors. The industrial robot was tasked with lifting and stacking boxes of vegetables onto pallets. This helped the factory save time and money.

However, the industrial robot malfunctioned and a technician from the manufacturer was called to the factory to repair it. While the technician was inspecting the robot, it pushed a transport belt towards the man. The man was crushed by the force of the belt, suffering serious injuries to his chest and face. He was rushed to the hospital but died from his injuries.

Dongseong Agricultural Export Complex, the owner of the facility, has said that they will do everything they can to ensure a safe working environment. The incident has also reignited the debate about the safety of robotic technology. Unfortunately, factories are already dangerous places. While there are advantages to using technology to speed up the workforce, the risks are clear.

RIP Omegle! Popular video chat platform shuts down after 14 years

After a 14-year journey, Omegle, the popular platform for anonymous online chat, has officially ended its services. The founder, Leif K-Brooks, cited unsustainable financial and psychological pressures as the reasons behind the site’s closure. Omegle, which was launched in 2009, gained fame for connecting users randomly for one-on-one interactions without the need for registration, offering anonymity and a space for social exploration.

Omegle

End of an Era: Omegle’s Closure Highlights Struggle Against Online Misuse

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Omegle experienced a significant increase in user engagement, serving as a vital social outlet for many isolated individuals. It provided various features, including text, voice, and video chats, as well as the option to filter connections based on shared interests. However, Omegle faced substantial challenges related to misuse, including reports of racism, sexism, pedophilia, and a rise in child sexual abuse and nudity on the platform.

To address these issues, Omegle implemented measures such as moderated chat rooms, collaborations with law enforcement, and raising the minimum age to 18. Nevertheless, the absence of a reliable age verification process often allowed abusive behavior to go unchecked, resulting in severe criticism and scrutiny.

Leif K-Brooks’ decision to close Omegle reflects the complex landscape where the management of such a platform and the battle against its misuse became overwhelming. Despite Omegle’s initial goal of promoting cultural exchanges and offering a space for unbiased advice and companionship, the darker aspects of its use became too challenging to handle. In his farewell message, K-Brooks acknowledged the meaningful connections and even marriages that Omegle facilitated. However, the site’s closure highlights the ongoing concerns about online safety and the responsibilities of digital platforms.

Omegle’s legacy is a mix of positive social connections overshadowed by the harsh realities of online abuse. As the industry moves forward, the void left by Omegle’s departure and the ongoing need for safe online communication spaces remain critical issues for future digital platforms to address.

Honor Choice Earbuds X5 Expected To Launch In India, Details Surface

Honor made its comeback in the Indian market with the Honor 90 smartphone a few months ago. The brand is reportedly working on launching new devices in the country. The Honor X9b was recently spotted on the BIS certification site hinting at its launch in India. Now, in a new development, it seems that Honor is also planning to launch a TWS earphone called the Choice Earbuds X5 in the country. The information comes from an X user @ZionsAnvin. Read on to know more details below.

Honor Choice Earbuds X5 expected to launch in India

iPhone 15 Pro Max Costs $100 More Than iPhone 14 Pro Max, But It Only Costs $37.7 More to Make

Apple introduced the iPhone 15 family at an event in September 2023. The most notable model in the series was the iPhone 15 Pro Max, with its price and features. The phone was also talked about because it was $100 more expensive than the iPhone 14 Pro Max, which was released the previous year at $1,099. So why did Apple make this decision? Allegations that the company’s production costs had increased emerged. A recent report revealed the cost difference between the two phones. Here are the details…

Apple’s iPhone 15 Pro Max Price Increase Due to New Features Cost or Profit Margin?

Apple’s cost to produce the 8GB + 256GB iPhone 15 Pro Max is 8% higher than the 6GB + 256GB iPhone 14 Pro Max, according to research by Counterpoint. This means that Apple could either absorb the cost increase itself or increase the price by a smaller amount to minimize the impact on consumers. However, the company did neither. As you know, the iPhone 15 Pro Max is a powerhouse when it comes to performance.

The biggest reason for this is Apple’s new generation mobile processor, the A17 Pro, which is manufactured using TSMC’s 3nm process technology. The company increased CPU and GPU performance by 20% thanks to this processor. In addition, ray tracing and DLSS-like technologies also made their way into our lives with this A17 Pro. Unfortunately, the price of this performance was reflected in the iPhone 15 Pro Max’s cost as a $30 increase.

Apple’s first 5x telephoto camera was another factor that increased the cost of the iPhone 15 Pro Max. The camera has a focal length of 120mm and uses a quadruple reflection prism to reflect light. This allows users to take clearer close-ups of more distant objects. Apple also used a 3D sensor-shift OIS technology that can make 10,000 micro-adjustments per second. These features make the iPhone 15 Pro Max’s camera system 34% more expensive than the iPhone 14 Pro Max’s.

Apple iPhone 15 Pro Max cost revealed

As you know, Apple used titanium alloy for the frame of the iPhone 15 Pro Max. This decision reduced the weight of the device by about 20 grams, making it the lightest Pro Max model ever produced. However, everything has a price, and the cost of the new case increased by 18% compared to the iPhone 14 Pro Max.

Moreover, not all developments were negative. Apple’s RAM costs fell by 35%, and its display costs fell by 4%. Based on all of this, we can assume that the main reason for the company’s price increase is not cost, but profit.

The OnePlus 12 is expected to launch in China this month, with a global launch expected in January 2024.

The company has reportedly started working on the successor models i.e. the Pad 7 series. The tipster adds that the device will have a square camera module on the upper left corner of the back panel much like the recently launched Xiaomi 14 series smartphone. The Pad 7 Pro will reportedly be powered by an overclocked Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor ticking at 3.36GHz under the hood. To recall, the Xiaomi Pad 6 Pro is equipped with a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC.

Apart from the aforementioned information, the Xiaomi Pad 7 Pro’s details remain a mystery. The Pad 6 series was announced alongside the Xiaomi 13 Ultra smartphone in April this year. Reports suggest that the Xiaomi 14 Ultra is expected to launch in Q1, 2024, hence it’s likely that the company may also announce the Pad 7 tablets alongside the flagship smartphone at the same event.

To recall, the Xiaomi Pad 6 Pro features 50MP + 2MP dual rear cameras, an 8,600mAh battery unit with support for 67W fast charging, and up to 12GB RAM and 512GB storage.
